Consequences
Summary: Jughead/Reader, Request: Using the song Consequences by Camila Cabello. Plot wise, maybe reader gets with him after the whole “betty doing the serpent dance” with a happier ending than the song? (minor canon divergence, to say the least)
You’re starting to walk home, but you pause when you notice Betty waiting by a rack of bikes. You’re about to approach her, ask about why she thought doing the Serpent dance had any meaning without the other trials behind her but you pause. Jughead is walking towards her. You don’t start back home, hesitating wanting to see what happens. “What is it, was it the dance?” You listen to Betty question him. Jughead nods and shrugs.
“It was everything Betty, why would you do that?” “I want to be a part of this, of your world, of the serpents.” “Then you should have done the other trails, you should have joined, not gotten up on stage in front of everyone to put on what amounted to a strip tease. The Serpent dance is done as a celebration, a congratulations for finishing the other trials, it’s not meant to be done around anyone other than the serpents, and certianly not my dad and all his friends.” Jughead snaps and Betty puts her hands on his shoulders. ‘We can figure this out together, we can-“ “No.” You cringe at how blunt he is, how he turns away, you panic for a moment, his eyes catching yours and he nods a fraction before he turns back to Betty shaking his head.
“Go back to the Northside, you’re safe there.” He speaks softly nudging her towards her mom’s car. He turns fully from her striding towards the trailer park, you fall into step with him, trying your best to not look back at Betty.
You step past his house, intent on going to yours, farther back, but his hand grips your wrist. “You think I fucked it up too right.” You turn shaking your head. “You’re right, about the trials.” You pat his shoulder awkwardly. “Betty and I, we were never going to work, she’s a Northsider, the perfect girl next door, everything Archie should have, everything Ronnie should get. I’m just trailer white trash in a gang, the stereotypical bad boy she falls for and fixes. It’s just infuriating she doesn’t see it.” “You don’t need to be fixed, it’s just both of you have different worlds you live in, you don’t need to be ‘good’ for her world, and she doesn’t need to ‘go dark’ or whatever she’s said to fit yours. If it’s meant to work it will, and so far it doesn’t seem like it will. There’s no shame in that. Better to break it off now than suffer.” He half smiles at you wiping at his eyes.
“You gonna be okay?” He nods, sighing. “Listen Y/N can I ask you something? You don’t have to answer.” “Of course.” “What do you think Betty saw in me?” You swallow shrugging. “Well I mean you’re attractive, tall, dark, handsome, mysterious.” You nod. “You spend time with her doing things she loves, which is crime solving and reporting; something you enjoy too. Plus you’re the leader of a gang, you drive a motorcycle, and the whole ‘bad boy image’ thing you have going for you probably helps.” You smiles and he huffs. “What? You asked what I thought Betty saw in you, what were you expecting?” “For there to be more substantial things than ‘I look good and do shit she likes” “Well that’s not my fault, besides I’m just saying what I see. It’s an outsider’s perspective on you’re relationship.” “Well what would you see in me?”
“Well you’re the leader of the Serpents, which I’m in so I’d climb rank, kidding, kidding, but you’re incredibly kind, despite how cold you appear, and as much as you say you’re a loner you’re loyal to your friends. You’re the leader so you’re responsible and look out for the community and your family. You stuck by your dad and helped defend him, even with everything going on with the Snake Charmer situation, it’s what you thought was best. You keep everyone in line and listen to everyone’s ideas and opinions, no mater how stupid they are, and lets face it the Serpent’s have a lot of stupid ideas.” He nods smiling at you. “Well did that boost your ego a bit then, oh wise Serpent Leader.” You smile back and he laughs.
“Wouldn’t mind a bit more if you’re up for stroking it.” You blink at him face pinking slightly as he realizes the innuendo. “Should I come in then? Or would you rather continue out here?” He shakes his head. “You should get home.” You nod back to him. “Of course, I hope I at least helped with the Betty situation?” He offers a pained smile. “There’s no situation, can’t be a situation if there’s no relationship.” You nod awkwardly and turn to make your way back to your home.
The tapping on your window wakes you up and you roll over on your bed to prop the window open sticking your head out to look at Jughead’s face. “Coming in then?” You joke as he starts to climb in. You pull back smoothing your blankets down as he sits on your bed. “More about the Betty thing then?” You question when he doesn’t respond. “Jones? You alive in there?” “Can I kiss you?’ He questions as he presses his lips you yours, you pull him in and can tell he wasn’t expecting that with how he stumbles slightly. You don’t say anything when he pulls away, leaning back towards him to return the surprise kiss he’d given you. As your lips press together you let yourself accept that you’re falling in love with Jughead Jones. ———————————————————————————–
You let him bring you to Pop’s you’d taken your Serpent jacket off and have it folded in your arms just in case, you can’t count the number of dirty looks you’d gotten from walking to school with it on. You sit next to him in the booth insisting he can order for you. You eat in mostly silence occasionally answering questions back and forth. He keeps his hand twined with yours as you split a shake.
—————————————————————— You’re draped over his lap as the rest of the Serpent’s argue over pizza. “Seriously that’s the least of our worries, can we focus on the actual issue?” He speaks and Sweet Pea narrows his eyes. “Y/N tell your boyfriend that the pizza toppings are the most important thing right now.” “Well I just pick off whatever I don’t like cause I’m not a whiny bitch.” Jughead high fives you; before pulling you in for a kiss. “Don’t make me use the whole king thing over pizza.” “You’re a shit king, you’re okay with pineapple on pizza.” “Sweets he’s okay with anything on pizza. It’s pizza.” ——————————————————————————–
You’re curled up on his couch, completely on top of him as his hand runs through your hair. You’re falling asleep and he’s talking about some idea Toni had for a better ‘team bonding’ as she put it. You’re letting his voice lull you to sleep, occasionally nodding and humming in agreement, he asks you more direct question, you’ve already forgotten as you look up and smile at him before moving slightly to kiss him slowly. “I love you.” You pull back from the kiss to return to your previous spot on top of him. You smile into his chest but freeze when he tenses, you look up nervously; his face probably as pink as yours as he realizes what you’ve said. “I love you too.” He returns and continues trying to stutter through whatever plan Toni has. —————————————————————————————-
You been about to tell him about the idea for your anniversary, but you stay quiet. He notices when your face falls but you assured him it’ll be fine. You tried your best not to react, not until you could get away. “I just think; well I want to try things with Betty again is all.” He offers you a nod and you return it, biting the inside of your cheek as you plan the best exit strategy from school. It’s easier than you think to skip school; no one bothering you, they almost expect it, a Serpent skipping, what a shock you’re sure is what everyone is thinking.
—————————————————————————————- “I want you to go check on him.” You glare at the others. “But we..” “That’s exactly why. Go.” You glower at the other Serpents but make your way to the trailer, tapping on the window. The door opens and you step into what you weren’t surprised to see. The bottles, the drinks had been cleared away, proof FP was trying to change; now all that lingered was tissues’ and a few unwashed clothes. “You look; different.” His voice is hoarse and you watch as he shoves a small avalanche of tissues away from himself so you sit down next to him. “Different?” He shrugs at your questioning.
“Tired.” He amends and you offer a wry smile, you know you’re probably paler, the circles under your eyes darker. The amount of sleep you’d been getting had been less; you’d be substituting it and meals for too much coffee. “You this upset about you and Betty breaking it off again?” You nudge his shoulder as you sit and he swallows. “We shouldn’t be together, we’re not good for each other like that.” You roll your eyes. “Relationships take work, you can’t expect everything to be wonderful all the time, you can’t keep the rose coloured glasses on forever.” “I missed the red flags cause of those glasses.” You grasp for his hand. “Red Flags? Was it that bad?” “Not like abuse, just, not good. We worked together so well when its life or death; but she’s wary of the Serpent’s; she doesn’t like the violent aspect of the gang unless it suits her needs.”
“Jughead, that’s everyone outside of the gang. That’s pretty much everyone in general. You wouldn’t like it if Betty was violent outside of protecting someone, hell if any of us, the Serpent’s hurt someone for the hell of it you’d be pissed.” “But it’s not the same.” “How?” You arch your eyebrows. “If it’s not for her, she doesn’t like it. And I don’t mean the violence; she seems bothered by me. When I try to be a leader she-“ He cuts himself off shrugging. “She wants the name that comes with you being Serpent King but not the work?”
“No she just, she doesn’t understand; she didn’t grow up like me, like us.” He shrugs again and you smile sadly. “Relationships are hard, I came by cause the rest of them are worried, said you haven’t been out of the house besides school, you barely talk to any of them either. What’s going on? They’re about two hours away from staging an intervention and locking Betty and you in a closet to talk.” “It’s uh, not about Betty.” “Is it about the Serpent’s themselves?” “Do you remember when we went on our first date? Out to Pop’s?” “Yes why?” “Can we do that again?” “Date? Or go to Pop’s?” “Both.” You frown at him.
“You’re not just bummed cause Betty dumped you are you?” “I dumped her, like last time.” You furrow your brow. “Jugs listen, I, I can’t do that again.” His face falls and you swallow shaking slightly. “This is so stupid.” You shake your head sighing. “When you told me you wanted to try things with Betty again, I was going to tell you I was planning a sort of party, mostly the serpent’s just everyone spending time together, all of your favourite foods. I made a cake even.” You laugh bitterly.
“I can’t let you put me through that again. After you dumped me, I didn’t leave my room for two days. Fangs had to drag me out. Like physically carry me. You, you really hurt me Jughead. I love you, that’s never changed but I don’t know if I want to risk that hurt again.” You sniffle and wipe your eyes annoyed at yourself for crying. He pulls your hands toward his. “Y/N, I never wanted to do that, I swear.”
“You still did it.” He nods you can tell he’s about to cry again, or maybe he already was but he rests his forehead against yours and smiles sadly. “I’m so sorry for hurting you, let me prove to you I’ll never do it again, please?” You stare at him for a moment, pulling back still silent, you glance to the clock and chew your lip. “Well I guess it’s a good thing Pop’s is open twenty-four hours then isn’t it?”

Seconds To Midnight
Pairing: Sweet Pea x Reader
Words: 2400ish
Warnings: Underage drinking, a lil heart break, pregnancy
Summary: Y/N and Sweet Pea share a lifetime of New Year’s together, some better than others.
Notes: Filling my ‘Midnight Kiss’ square on my @riverdalebingo card! The next few days are gonna be a flurry of super late Christmas Eve/New Years posts as I attempt to catch up!
Tumblr media
10...
They still can’t believe they’ve convinced their parents to let them stay up passed midnight. Not even when the five of them are crammed into a booth at the Wyrm arguing over a pack of cards and sharing bottles of soda way past their usual 10 year old bedtimes.
By the time the ball drops, Jug’s already asleep, the cheering from around the bar barely making him stir. Fangs and Toni decide to mock the adults around them, pouting at each other and making ‘kissy’ noises. Y/N laughs along with them, pretending to gag, but Sweet Pea doesn’t miss the way she blushes when she looks over at Gladys and FP once more.
A tint that deepens a dark red when he leans over and places a quick peck to her cheek.
“Happy New Year Y/N.” He whispers, thankful that the others are still too distracted to notice.
“Happy New Year Pea.”
9...
By the time they’re 13, they care a little less about their parents permission, opting to swap the warmth of the Wyrm’s crowds, for the back of Fang’s brothers truck, at the edge of the car park instead. The same way Jughead’s opted to switch them for Archie Andrews and Betty Cooper.
The huddle together for warmth, gazing up at the stars, and even though no one will admit it for a fear of being deemed ‘uncool’, everyone’s excited for the burst of fireworks about to come.
When the first explosion sounds off, Sweet Pea misses the look Toni gives him, her eyes switching fiercely between him and Y/N.
But she doesn’t give up.
“I dare the two of you to kiss.” She blurts out the challenge, and Sweet Pea hears Y/N suck in a breath beside him.
“What?” He chokes on the word, eyes casting from her down to his lap, not missing the way Y/N’s leg brushes against his, suddenly aware of how close they’d been sitting.
“It’s midnight.” His best friend shrugs, the streak of bright pink hair falling off her shoulder. He can still remember her Grandmother’s face the first time she’d seen it, Toni’s first act of outright defiance. “You have to kiss someone.”
“Then you kiss Fangs.” Sweet Pea’s hand gestures wildly between the two of them, both gagging in unison.
“That would be like kissing my sister.” Fangs’ nose scrunches up with the statement, and Y/N can’t help but laugh.
“But-“
His fight is already lost, now three against one as the girl besides him sits up straighter, rolls her eyes and simply grabs his face. “Oh Pea, just shut up and kiss me!”
He’s too distracted by the warmth of her palm against his skin, feather light fingertips dancing across his cheek, to see her closing the gap between them.
He sees fireworks even when he closes his eyes.
8...
At 15, Y/N’s forced to spend New Years at her grandparents. Their first one apart in 6 years and Sweet Pea feels her lack of presence more with every passing second.
He misses her when Toni talks about last years celebrations and sneaking on the Wrym’s roof, when she text him early so her words don’t get caught in a signal back log, when he sees Jug squeeze Betty’s hand.
He wishes she was there to share the beers Fangs has managed to steal for them and make fun of the way Archie follows Veronica around like a lost puppy, wondering how their two opposite friendship groups somehow became intertwined to ring in the new year.
And when the count down ends, he watches as Toni kisses Ginger, turning to tell Y/N she owes him $5, before remembering she’s not there. His heart sinks a little a further as he struggles to understand the feeling swarming in his head.
He’s not interested in the fireworks that year.
7...
When they’re 17, everything just goes wrong.
They’re at their first official New Year’s Party, thrown by none other than Cheryl Blossom, as they desperately cling onto the last parts of their high school selves, months before they all leave the town behind and disappear to different colleges.
Some partying to celebrate the year that everything changes, others to forget what lays ahead.
They dance too much, they laugh too hard, they drink more than they should.
One minute she’s in front of Sweet Pea, the next she’s gone.
The panic sets in, once the ball drops, and he only catches a glimpse of her over Josie’s head once the singer starts pulling him towards her. Y/N laughs at something Reggie Mantle whispers in her ear, the sound piercing into Sweet Pea’s lungs.
He hadn’t planned on kissing her at midnight, yet now it’s he can think about.
But he’s too late.
He’d never make it in time, not with Josie hanging onto his arms. Not with the way Reggie’s already leaning in to do the one thing he’s always been to afraid to do.
He wants to look away, but he can’t, even when he’s sure his heart won’t take it. He watches as Reggie’s lips press firmly against hers, watches the way she kiss him back and does the one thing that would stop him screaming out over the crowd.
He kisses Josie and pretends it her.
Her eyes blaze like fires when he finds them again, and Sweet Pea doesn’t see it back then but everything changed in that swift couple of seconds, a silent, wordless disagreement that tears them apart.
Distance grows between them, not just physically as she leaves to chase her dreams in New York City and he stays, ever attached to Riverdale.
His heart shatters at the thought of the next New Years Eve without her.
But thinks maybe its for the best.
6...
“Y/N will be there.”
Sweet Pea still declines the invite politely, but he can tell by the triumphant glint in Toni’s eyes that she knows she’s won.
There’s no way he’d turn down the opportunity of even a glance at his former best friend after three years.
So he finds himself dressed to the nines, hiding away on the rooftop of Toni and Cheryl's penthouse apartment, because of course they have one of the best views in New York, trying to forget the image of her dressed in red.
It doesn’t take her long to find him, and he doesn’t need to turn around to know it’s her creeping up behind him. He can feel her presence the minute she steps out, like it’s coded in his DNA. He hates it as much as he loves it.
“Hi.” She breathes out the greeting, tiptoeing across the unsteady ground between them. It’s the first words she uttered towards him since she left for college and the sound makes his heart sing.
“Hi.” He parrots back, there's so much more he wants to say but that's all he can manage. Her eyes meet his, locked together, unaware of the countdown being called out below.
And then she laughs.
And he does too.
Laughs over the stupidity of it all, laughs because its them, laughs until it hurts, until the fireworks explode around them surprising them both back to silence.
“I’ve missed you.” He feels her hand close over his, fingers squeezing his tight.
He feels like he can breathe for the first time in a long time. “I’ve missed you too.”
5...
This time its him that finds her on the roof, eerily similar to their moment two years prior.
They’ve been trying for the last few years, piecing the remains of their broken friendship back together. But it’s not enough.
Not for him.
Maybe not for her.
The thought rips through him, his chest exploding with pain, and need, he has to tell her. He can’t wait any longer.
The idea alone burns its way into his lungs until he can’t breathe, until he can’t think straight.
“I love you.” The words slip out the same time the noise below them erupts into a chorus of the number ten. He can hear it all around him, from people in the building next door, from people down the street.
She just stares at him, eyes wide with a hint of something he doesn’t quite understand.
“You don’t have to say it back.” He panics, trips over his words and the way she looks at him. “I just want you to know.”
He’s whispering into the dark, but she can hear him, over the chanting, over the beating of her own heart drumming clear in her ears.
“I just love you.” He falls into a spiral, confessions pouring out as he plunges downwards like the countdown under their feet. “I always have, I probably always will.”
And as the ball drops, and the crowd underneath explodes in cheers, their friends, she’s suddenly pulled back into reality.
Her eyes soften at the sight before her, Sweet Pea’s bashful grin luminated by the glow of the fireworks in the distance, their light dancing off his skin.
And she does the first that comes to her mind, the only thing she’s wanted to do every New Year’s Eve since she met him.
She kisses him.
4...
At 25 they find themselves back on the roof.
That roof.
Their roof.
A location so sentimental to their relationship.
Relationship.
The word feels so weird in Sweet Pea’s thoughts, the concept of her being his girlfriend still so foreign to him, still so unreal, even after three years.
He loves her.
More than he’s loved anything ever before in his life, he’s sure of it. And he’s sure she loves him too, even if sometimes he doesn’t understand why, but lord knows she does.
Which is why he finds himself down on one knee, velvet ring box held tightly in his shaking hand, surrounded by candle light and rose petals that float in the wind. He can feel wet tears streaking lines down his cheeks that mirror her own as she nods out her answer, not trusting her own voice before she pounces at him.
His back hits the floor the same time fireworks light up the skyline and his heart swells in bliss when she slips the ring onto her finger, a perfect fit.
“Did she say yes?” Fangs calls from across the roof, head peering around the door, Toni just behind.
“She said yes!” Sweet Pea sings back, a permanent grin on his face.
It’s only seconds later the two dive on the couple still sprawled out on the floor, four sets of limbs, four sounds of laughter, embracing in celebration.
3...
The tell tale signs are there all night, he doesn’t understand how he didn’t see it sooner.
She professional switches out her vodka orange for plain juice, gags at her usual favourite fancy foods that Cheryl and Toni insist on serving every year, and has ran to the bathroom more than once in the last three hours.
But he doesn’t fit the puzzle pieces together.
Not even when she slots her hand in his, half guiding, half pulling him towards the roof and presents him a neatly wrapped gift once they’re surrounded by cold night air.
It’s only right she thinks, to tell him here, on the very roof top he confessed his love, where he asked her to be his wife only a year before. It has to be here he finds out this too.
He stares, confused down at the box held in his hands, feeling guilty that he has nothing to give her. She laughs at him, a sound that still sets his heart alight as she encourages him to open it quick.
The excitement takes over, racing to reveal its contents before the countdown sounding below hits 1, his fingers make light work of the paper.
When he lifts the lid of the box he’s sure he’s stopped breathing.
This can’t be real.
Two blue lines stare back at him, clear at the dead of midnight and he chokes out a sob.
“You’re?...” He can’t finish the sentence, can’t get his tongue to move and say the words. Her eyes glisten with unshed tears, nodding her head in confirmation.
He can’t help but drop to his knees, his hands gently cradling her barely there bump, his heart so full of love.
“I’m gonna be a Dad.”
2...
Of course they get married on New Year’s Eve.
It’s their day, no matter how much Toni and Fangs tease them about it. But their friends draw the line at a roof top wedding.
Sweet Pea can’t describe the day as anything other than a god damn dream.
He’s wanted this for so long it’s hard to believe it’s actually happening.
She looks a vision in white, too good to be true and he couldn’t ask for anything more.
As he twirls his now wife in his arms, their baby girl nested up against Toni’s chest just a few feet away, he’s so overwhelmed with love that he can’t help but cry.
It starts as a gentle shake from his chest, vibrating through his shoulders before the tears fall fast and he has to hide his face in her hair.
Tears pool in her own eyes as she pulls him closer, whispers how much she adores him into his neck, claims she’s the luckiest woman in the world.
He’s not afraid to admit this might be his favourite New Years Eve.
1...
At 30 there’s no lavish parties.
No roof top confessions, no pregnancy announcements, no engagements, no Wrym.
Just them and their closest friends sprawled out in their living room, discarded pizza boxes on the coffee table, their three year old asleep upstairs.
And when those around them start counting down, Sweet Pea cups her cheek, tilts her head towards his so he can see her eyes staring back.
“I love you.” He whispers, so honestly, so raw. He feels her smile into the kiss that comes next. He doesn’t care that his friends might see them, not like that shy ten year old hidden in a booth 20 years ago daring to plant a peck on his best friends cheek. No, he wants everyone to see how happy his is now, how far they’ve come. “Happy New Year Y/N.”
“Happy New Year Pea.”

Don’t Mind Me I’m Just Putting My Clown Makeup Back On.
So just finished watching episode 8. What was it Evan said before the episode, that it was ‘The Night of the Ships.’ Well actually it was more ‘the Night of the Shipwrecks.’ But more on that in my actual review for the episode which I’ll post later. I want to take time to process the episode and give it a rewatch. Naturally as a Barchie shipper this episode left me feeling alot by the end of it mostly, angry, frustrated and hopeless. But here’s the thing I’ve seen alot of comments saying that Barchie is dead and I am in two minds on it. Sometimes I think, ok maybe it is, but then a part of me thinks it isn’t. I think a big part of that is because we’ve been baited with Barchie so many times by now. I mean this is the third time we have been told that Barchie is over. So now whenever I see the words Barchie is over its like I am preconditioned to go, but is it though? I mean think about it, we were all told it was over between Barchie after they kissed in 2x09 and it became clear in the following episodes that nothing was going to come of it. Then we got told is over between them again in 4x18 when Betty decided not to take things further after their kiss in 4x17. And now once again it looks like the same thing is happening. But what I don’t want to happen but what I feel like they might do is, well if we’re being real here, Barchie causes alot of buzz in the fandom and gets a lot of chatter on social media whether its because people are excited or mad about it, but every time something happens with Barchie the fandom explodes. What I don’t want to happen is for them to go back to the original couples and then anytime the show producers feel like things are a bit too quiet and they want to generate some buzz just pulling Barchie out of storage to create that drama. As a Barchie fan the merry go round, of no their just friends to actually they do have feelings is exhausting. One thing I am mad about it if this is the end of Barchie like some are saying then RAS and the writers were really terrible to the Barchie shippers, even more so than usual because they have never pushed or promoted Barchie this hard before. Even right after the episode Evan was posting on his Instagram to the Barchie shippers saying that Barchie have a lot of history and not to give up hope. But its getting to the point where I don’t trust the writers and I am sick of being baited only for them to not go all the way through with it.
I know some people are saying that this was closure for Barchie that they explored them they figured out that they don’t work and now they can focus on their friendship. And if that's enough for you then great, but for me I didn’t get any sense of closure. Before season 5 aired I made post explaining why I thought they needed to fully explore Barchie and one of the things I said was that in order from them to bring closure to them they needed to first have them in a full blown relationship. That hasn’t happened. To me I find it really baffling how Betty can decide that her and Archie don’t work when they haven’t tried being in a relationship which is very different from FWB. How is she or we suppose to know that they don’t work as a couple when they have never been a couple and we’ve never seen them as a couple? Though I do agree that they don’t work as FWB but then I knew that wasn’t going to be a long term thing. For me, again if this is really the end then the most unforgivable part was how badly written it was. It just happened far too fast, in fact the sudden change almost gave me whiplash. The last few episodes and even the beginning of this episode we’ve seen Barchie enjoying the time they spend together, also I never really saw any indication from Archie that he was having feelings for Veronica, their relationship was very much coming across as friendly. But then that all suddenly changed in the second half of the episode, suddenly Archie was having feelings for Veronica and after one bad booty call Barchie have decided that they don’t work together. It almost felt like this episode should have been much further down in the season like episode 11 or 12. For me it seems like this reuniting of V*rchie is just happening too quickly. And that’s exactly why I don’t think this is going to be a good thing for V*rchie and that it might not be as it seems.
So I am going to try and inject a little bit of hope for Barchie here. Because like I said a part of me still thinks there’s a possibility Barchie might still happen and its not as clear cut as we think. I mean if we look at the Barchie ‘break up’ in the context of the episode I actually think its pretty obvious what’s going on here. It is heartbreakingly similar to what happened in the pilot. At the beginning of the episode we get that really romantic, sweet scene with Archie in his firefighter gear. I am going to be honest I was expecting a heated maybe playful scene here but it was actually a very cute and soft scene which made me love it even more. Which also made this idea that Barchie is over even harder to wrap my head around because why go through all the trouble of having such a soft romantic scene and then just turn around and go nope their just friends? I mean watching that scene I’m calling BS on the whole friend thing right now because that is not how friends look at each other. But anyway we also not long after get the scene where Betty tells Kevin about her and Archie and I think this really is very telling of where Betty is mentally when she decides to call things off between them. She describes Archie as being the lit window in the dark. But she also says that she doesn’t want to get in too deep with him because she doesn’t want that light to go out. She is very clearly afraid that if they take things further and go for a committed relationship and it goes wrong then she will lose him altogether. This in my opinion makes sense for her character as its very similar to what she did in 4x18 with Jughead, She shuts things down with Archie and goes back to Jughead because she is afraid if she doesn’t she will lose Jughead. With Jughead she is afraid not being with him is what will lead to her losing him and in a way she likely feels she was  right because they’ve not spoken in the seven years since they broke up. With Archie its the same but the opposite if that makes sense. With Archie she is afraid being with him is what will lead to her losing him. She is clearly afraid of her feelings and very afraid of losing someone who she deeply cares about. Again when you think about what she has gone through this makes sense. She lost her dad, she kind of lost Charles, her brother when he went to jail, she feels like she lost Jughead and now her sister is missing and Betty knows that she might lose her too. It makes sense then that Betty would be deathly afraid of doing something that might make her lose Archie too.
Then fast forward a little and she has a nightmare about TBK. I loved that moment when she looked over and saw the light from his window and how that reinforced the idea of him being the light in the dark. For me this reference was really exciting because a while back when 4x18 had just aired I made a post about Barchie and Light and how I felt like Archie saw Betty as his light, so seeing that Betty also felt the same way made me really happy. She calls Archie over and whilst she admits that she had a nightmare she doesn’t open up to him about it or tell him that she was held captive for two weeks and now has PTSD. I think the other thing to remember about this scene is right before this there is a scene where Archie and Jackson are talking about Veronica and Betty and Jackson makes a joke about how he is juggling two women. At this moment Archie looks really guilty and troubled and I think alot of this is to do with the past and how he hurt both Veronica and Betty before because he had feelings for them both, so obviously he’s probably not feeling great at the idea that he might once again be in the same situation and is likely painfully aware that he could end up hurting them again. Then he shows up at Betty’s expecting it to be a booty call. He is expecting it to be fun and well like it was in the beginning of the episode with the fireman scene. But Betty is trying to escape her trauma and although he doesn’t know why he can probably tell that something feels off. The words he uses to Jackson are that it felt different and not great. I think alot of the reason why it felt different and not great was one like I said Betty was struggling and very shaken by the dream so as much as she was trying to escape I don’t think it worked as well as before, casual sex isn’t enough to help her and I think that is suppose to be the take away from that scene. On top of that I do feel like Archie was feeling guilty about his renewed feelings for Veronica and he might have felt like he wasn’t being honest with Betty and like he was hiding something from her. I think the combination of all this leads to a less than satisfying night and I think this only confuses them more because up until now they have been having a great time but suddenly its different and I think that throws them for a bit of a loop.
Then we get to the key party and again I think some things that happen here a really significant for what happens between Barchie later in the evening. Firstly there’s the fact that Veronica pulls Archie’s keys. This has two effects in my opinion. One Betty is very clearly jealous and not happy about this turn of events. The second is I feel like for Archie this might have seemed like a bit of a sign. Kind of like he might think it was fate that Veronica drew his key which when he is confused about how he feels about Veronica might have felt a little like a confirmation for him. Then of course the stand off with Chad happens and Veronica leaves with her husband. But one of the more significant moments is when Betty says that she is still traumatised by the spin the bottle game from the pilot. I think this is important because it shows that she is clearly thinking about that and the pain of Archie choosing Veronica and how she nearly lost Archie, I mean it nearly brought their friendship to an end. So when you look at it from Betty’s point of view she is remembering all those bad memories from the past and she has this fear of losing Archie and the light he brings to her life, and then he tells her he still has feelings for Veronica. In this situation I think that it makes sense for Betty to slam those brakes on. That bubble she was living in with him before has burst and she’s realising that she’s got to face the things that she had been trying to escape from and distract herself from when she was hooking up with Archie. One part I found interesting, but a little confused by, was the line that at their cores they are different people. At first I thought she meant that her and Archie were different from each other but thinking about it and how it came right after she was talking about how they should make sense because they are the all American boy and the Girl next door I actually think she meant they are different from those personas that are sort of forced on to them. The American boy and the Girl next door. At their core they are not those people which is something we have all been saying since the beginning. The other part that I thought was interesting but was again a little unsure of what it meant was when Betty asked they had a free pass to do whatever they wanted so why weren’t they, and Archie replies because we’re right on the edge. Now I could be reaching here but I wonder if what they are saying here is that what they have always wanted was to be together. Maybe Betty is asking why they aren’t taking that step when its what they’ve always wanted. Archie says that they are on the edge. Now being on the edge of something can be a very scary thing. It makes me think of the danger of falling and I think this is what Barchie are afraid of so instead of taking that leap they take a step back from that edge, back to where they feel safe. To be honest the more I think about it the more I think that at the moment that was the right thing to do. Betty is right in that she is facing some dark times and she is clearly struggling with a lot and I don’t think that right now she is ready for a relationship. I think she is right what she needs right now is a friend to help her through it and who she can rely on. Archie has assured her that's what he’ll be and I really hope that the writers deliver on this and show us them really growing as friends and supporting each other. I think the thing I am worried about is that now that V*rchie are back together and that Jughead and Betty are investigating together that they will fall back into those same patterns of it only being them interacting. I am hoping that the writers have learnt from past mistakes and will still show Barchie as friends, I have some hope that they might as we know that they were filming together for episode 10.
Ok so lets say they aren’t really over how could I see Barchie coming back together? Well a few days ago I made a post taking about the FWB to Lovers troupe and how it usually follows a guideline. I think Barchie are still very much following this formula.
Tumblr media
I didn’t want to write it all out again so I just took a snapshot of it but as you can see at the beginning of this episode we were very much still in step 3, they were hooking up and having fun. Then I feel like the writers hit the acceleration a bit too hard and raced through the next three steps that I outlined in red above. I feel like they mostly skipped over step 4 but I guess it could be argued that Betty calling Archie after her nightmare might kind of come under that one. But we did see Betty getting jealous of Veronica and Archie in this episode which is step 5 checked off. Then we got step six where one of them realises they are starting to catch deeper feelings and the arrangement gets called off. I know some might say that neither of them started to get deeper feeling but I would argue that there is some evidence that Betty at least was. She was very giddy and happy talking about her and Archie to Kevin and I think the fact that she brought up not wanting to get in too deep with him indicates that she has had some thoughts about things deepening between them. Also during the ‘break up’ scene she says that getting closer to him has made her realise that she doesn’t want her darkness to overtake him. Again to me this makes me think her feelings for Archie were getting deeper and that made her afraid that she would taint him with her darkness somehow. The thing that is so heart breaking about this is its a direct parallel to how Archie felt in the pilot, like he would never be good enough for her.
So if we are following this formula then what should happen next is they go on with their lives but when they see the other interacting with their other love interests, so when Betty sees Archie with Veronica for example they will continue to feel jealous and it’ll make them look at their feelings again. I did wonder about that line Kevin said to Betty about him telling Fangs to bring someone to the key party, he said that a part of him wanted to know if he would actually go through with it. I wonder if some part of Betty also wonders whether Archie will go through with it with Veronica. I am curious to know what her reaction will be and whether she’ll sort of convince herself that she was right when she sees them together but also feel a bit hurt and jealous or disappointed. I feel like this situation is currently lined up to mirror season 1 perfectly. We know that Betty and Jughead are investigating together next episode and I can’t help but wonder if seeing them interacting will cause some kind of jealously with Archie. I could also see a scenario where Glen comes into town and that causes Archie to feel some kind of way. Again this would be a direct parallel to season 1 where Archie rejected Betty, got with Veronica and then started to realise he had feelings when he saw B*ghead together. One thing that has always been consistent with Archie’s character is he is someone who really struggles to understand his own feelings and what he really wants. I’m sure the V*rchie’s will come after me with pitchforks for saying this but I actually don’t think Archie really does still have feelings for Veronica I think with them both they are feeling alot of nostalgia and that is blurring things for them. I think in the next few episodes they will start to realise this and ultimately they will once again come to an end.
Another way I could see this happening is a similar situation to what happened with Hannah and Caleb from PLL at the end of season 5 where Hannah admits she still loves Caleb, they kiss and then she gets taken by AD and this makes Caleb realise that he still has feelings for her. Now to be clear before anyone starts trying to roast me I am not saying I want Betty to get hurt or captured again. But it is a popular theory that Betty will be taken by TBK again and considering the way the story is going its not an unreasonable theory. With episode 10 being the midseason finale and it being right before a three month hiatus I feel like its got to be a big shocking episode and we know that KJ and Lili were doing a lot of stunt work so it wouldn’t be out there to assume that one of their characters might find themselves in a dangerous situation. I could definitely see a situation where they kiss and then something happens to one of them which just confuses the situation more. The only thing with this is if it does happen and Archie is still with Veronica then they would once again be cheating.
Another scenario I could see it going is similar to OTH’s Leyton. I mean to me there are so many parallels between Barchie and Leyton, I do find myself drawing comparisons between them alot. But it could be a similar situation to when she got shot and they were trapped in the library together. She thought she was going to die so she tells him she loves him and kisses him as a kind of goodbye. Again I could see something like this happening with Barchie where one or the other gets shot or hurt in someway but they are trapped somewhere. Thinking they might die they confess how they really feel thinking it’ll be their last chance to be real about their feelings and they kiss. Obviously I think help will arrive in time and they’ll survive but then they have to deal with what they admitted in that moment.
Ok but if Barchie get together then V*rchie would need to break up so how do I think that could happen? Well like I said above I do think alot of what they are feeling is nostalgia and I think as time goes on they will start to realise that but I also think there might be a clue as to how they might come to an end in the title for episode 11. Now just to be crystal clear I am not sure yet if these titles are confirmed or not. So everything I am about to say relies on those titles being official. The title for episode 11 is Strange Bedfellows. Like alot of the Riverdale titles I think this is a reference to a 1965 film of the same name. In a previous post where I was theorising about the titles, I explained that the plot of the movie was about a couple who got married impulsively within 24 hours of meeting each other and then separate but then seven years later on the eve of their divorce being finalised they rekindle the spark before realising they are too different and decide to go ahead with the divorce. But then the male protagonist finds out his promotion relies on him being married so he tries to woo her back. In that theory post I talked about how I thought it could be where Chad and Veronica’s storyline goes. I predicted that they would separate in episode 8 and then in episode 11 Chad would come back to Riverdale to finalise the divorce. I also theorised that he would be offered a job that he could only have if he was married and so he would try to win her back. What else is interesting is in the film the female protagonist during the seven years apart got with someone else. This guy is described as the one she should have married years ago. They fit, they both have the same views on everything, they rarely fight, they seem like they would be the perfect couple. To me this very much sound like V*rchie. It’s the person she always figured she would end up being with. Also in the film the husband goes to great lengths to prove that he has changed. They also have alot of chemistry with each other and part of the problem is they keep ending up in bed together which only confuses things more. I could see a scenario where Chad comes back to settle the divorce but whilst back he tries to convince Veronica to give them another chance. During his time back he seems to have changed and is making alot of efforts with Veronica which reminds her of how things were between them and confuses her. It could also be that things are a bit rocky between her and Archie especially if I am right about something happening between Barchie is the midseason finale. I think come episode end V*rchie will realise that whilst they will always care about each other that they are better as friends. In regards to Chad I could see it going one of two ways either the show does a redemption arc for him and he and Veronica get back together. Or Veronica finds out about how he only gets a promotion if he is still married and realises he’s only done all of this so he could get the job he wanted and so she goes through with the divorce and ends the episode single. Personally I would prefer the second one as I feel like too many of Veronica’s storylines revolve around men. I just want her to be single and a badass for a little while and have a storyline that is all about her.
SO to summarise I think episode 9 will be V*rchie and B*ghead interacting but we will see little signs that despite saying they want to just be friends Barchie are shown to have some jealous feelings to the other. I also think V*rchie will feel like something doesn’t feel quite the same even though they are back together. This will continue over into episode ten until Barchie finds themselves in a dangerous situation which leads to a confession that they have feelings for each other and a kiss. Episode 11 things are strained between V*rchie because they are confused about firstly how they feel about each other but also because Archie is confused about what happened between him and Betty in episode 10. Then as the cherry on top Chad shows up and seems like a changed person and this makes Veronica confused and causes even more tension between V*rchie. Then after finding out Chad was just using her to get a promotion she calls it off but she also realises that Archie isn’t the one for her either and they call things off as well.
I mean I could be totally wrong about all of this, but this is just where I feel like the story is going. To me the V*rchie reunion just happened too fast for it to be a lasting thing. We have to remember that we aren’t even half way through the season yet so alot can still happen and we all know how quickly the Riverdale writers like to turn the tide. Who knows maybe Barchie really is bones as alot of people like to think but I for one am choosing to have a bit of hope.

Cheryl//she means everything to me
Request: Can I request a Cheryl Blossom request where the reader is Archie's twin (a girl) and a super close with her brother and his friends so she doesn't like Cheryl but one day she finds Cheryl crying over Jason and comforts her so Cheryl falls for her and becomes like her best friends has her join the vixens constantly by her side and eventually the reader falls for her and like a super fluffy ending please ps I really love everything you write
hey! i had so much fun writing this, you have no idea! its also super gay!
“Well would you look at that, the sad breakfast club have reunited at lunch.” Cheryl’s cheery voice stops all conversations happening and everyone turns to look at her, her red hair blows softly in slight breeze and her eyes twinkle with whatever chaos she’s going to cause today.
“What do you want Cheryl?” Betty is the first to speak, dropping her fork on her tray as you all wait for her to start her insults.
“Well, cousin, I actually wanted to see how you were. But however, if you’re going to be like that.” She clears her throat before narrowing her eyes. “Betty, your ponytail is wonky and that sweater really washes you out, your hobo of a boyfriend really needs a bath because well, I can smell him from here, or maybe thats just the ridiculously childish hat he refuses to take off. Archie, you’re hair is so ridiculously bright today, its actually blinding me, and it looks like you’ve put enough product in to drown all the little lice that lives in it, Veronica that dress was popular last season, and the shoes a decade ago, and Y/n, I actually didn’t realize you were here. Like I kind of forgot that you existed for a few minutes. What’s it like in your brothers shadow?” She finishes her little speech with a bright smile and the five of you sigh before starting to eat again. You can never read Cheryl, one day she can be sweet and lovely and want to help, the next she’s the worst person you’ll ever meet.
“Probably a lot nicer than being in yours...I can imagine Jason’s shadow is particularly cold.” Veronica retorts and your eyes widen in surprise...that was cold, even for Veronica. Archie smiles proudly at his girlfriend and presses a soft kiss to her head while the rest of the table laugh, including yourself, all 5 of you ignoring Cheryl as she turns on her heel and storms off.
“Lovely talking to you!” Jughead calls after her causing you all to laugh even louder.
“Will she ever stop being a bitch?” You wonder aloud and the laughing pauses, giving everyone a chance to look at each other for a few seconds before you start giggling again.
“I don’t think its possible for Cheryl to be anything other.” Your brother replies through a mouthful of sandwich and you nod in reply.
-----
“Do you wanna ride Y/n?” Archie shouts across the parking lot as he gestures to the truck behind him. Veronica is already in the passenger seat scrolling through her phone and you so desperately want to go with them, even if they’ll do gross things in Archie’s room until your mom gets back from work, but today apparently is not your day,
“If I’m not back when mom gets home tell her that I haven’t been kidnapped or murdered, I’m just going to be late because Cheryl set her Vixens out for revenge and they’ve stolen my bag so I get to play a fun game of hide-and-seek with all my stuff.” You huff, blowing a piece of hair from your face as your shoulder slump in defeat. The fact that you could be spending up to a few hours extra at this stupid school actually hitting you, and Archie gives you a sympathetic look in response to your frown.
“Do you need some help?” He offers but you shake your head. You don’t want to drag him into this, plus you can imagine the Vixens are already planning what they’re going to do to him and the rest of your friends, so you may-as-well give him some peace while he can get it.
“Nah, I’m sure I’ll be fine. I was always the best at finding things when we were younger.” You shrug. “Plus, you don’t want to keep your girlfriend waiting.” You nod towards Veronica who’s hanging her head out the passenger window.
“I suppose not.” He replies, a soft smile playing on his lips as he looks back at his girlfriend and you can’t help but feel a little sad. You’re glad Archie and Veronica have finally worked everything out and are madly in love, but a small part of you feels left behind.
Practically all of your friends are in relationships or are dating, leaving you to be the odd one out at literally any get together. However you have very limited options when it comes to dating, there’s not a lot of queer girls in Riverdale, or even the surrounding towns, at least not a lot of them are out and the ones that are you don’t really like that much. *cough* Cheryl *cough*. And no matter how hard your friends try to set you up with someone, they always seems to pick the worst people. No matter how many times you tell them what your type is.
Three weeks ago Veronica set you up with a girl who came into Pop’s a lot and the only reason she went on a date with you is because she liked Veronica and wanted to know her ‘deal’. Which you can imagine she was very surprised when you told her she was dating your twin brother...yikes.
Maybe you should join a convent. Or get one of those apps that Kevin uses, but only weirdos...and Kevin are on those types of apps. And do they even have them for gay girls.
You ponder your options as you walk behind the bleachers, humming a song you heard in the car this morning as you go. You’re also trying to figure out how to get back at Cheryl and her minions when you hear sniffling coming from a little further ahead of you. Stopping in your tracks you look up and towards the noise to see none other than Cheryl Blossom crying by herself. Thankfully she hasn’t seen you yet and and you quickly look around to see how far your escape is. You're about to turn on your heels when the nice side of you decides to show up, unfortunately.
God, why do I have to have a conscious.
You take a deep breath and send a prayer to literally anybody listening that she doesn’t bite your head off, before you slowly make your way towards the red-head.
“Cheryl?” Your voice shakes with uncertainty and as soon as she hears someone say her name her head lifts up and she’s wiping the tears from her eyes, a look of distain taking over the previous sad expression.
“What do you want Andrews?” She spits and looks you up and down.
You decided to ignore her tone, and try to keep your nice one as you continue your conversation. “Are you okay?”
“Just fine.” She crosses her arms over her chest and her jaw locks as she looks away from you.
“Are you sure?” You ask and sit on the floor a few feet away from her. “Because, you don’t seem it.”
“What’s it to you anyway?” She snaps and you roll your eyes.
“You’re right. It is none of my business.” You sigh and stand up, dusting your jeans off once your stood. “I hope you feel better soon.”
“Y/n?” She calls after you and you huff before turning around. “I’m sorry.” Your eyes widen at the words thats just come of of her mouth and you need to sit down.
“What?!” Your jaw drops and she rolls her eyes at you. “Did you actually just apologize to me?”
“Yes, but I can take it back if you want.” She mutters and you force a smile away as you sit down beside her again, this time a tiny bit closer to her than before but she doesn’t seem to mind, instead your pretty sure she shuffles a little closer to you too.
“Sorry.” You mumble and a small smile appears on her face.
“Did you just apologize?” She mocks and you giggle a little.
“Okay, I deserved that.” You nod. “Do you want to talk about why you’re sat on the floor behind the bleachers after everyone has gone home, crying?”
“Well, when you put it so delicately, sure.” She replies and you send her a look. “I miss Jason.”
“Oh.” You say and look at the your hands. You’re not really sure what to say to that. It’s not like you can bring him back, or even take away her pain. As much as you don’t like her, Cheryl’s been through an awful lot. Far more than anybody else and you can’t help but feel slightly sorry for her.
“Yep.” She take a quick glance at you before deciding to look straight ahead. An idea pops into your head and you sit up a little before looking at her.
“What do you miss about him?”
“What?” She furrows her brows as she looks at you and you take a deep breath before explaining.
“Well, in my experience...it kind of helps to talk about what you miss about them. Because it doesn’t push away the fact that they’re gone, and it also helps me remember the best bits about them. So even though it always stings, overall it makes me feel a little better. If that makes sense?”
“Yeah.” She nods and you can tell she’s thinking about what you’ve just said. “I get that. That was surprisingly insightful for you.”
“Thanks.” You laugh and she giggles a little. “So what do you miss about him?”
“I miss...how he always used to tell me stupid jokes whenever mom or dad had been mean to me or if they’d argued.” She smiles a little at the memory, despite the sad undertones and you can’t help but think how brave Cheryl actually is. “And how when we were younger we used to share a room and he would always tell me bedtime stories. Usually after my mom had come in and told us scary ones. As soon as he’d hear her walk down the stairs he would slip out of his bed and climb into mine and tell me magical stories, usually involving the two of us. We’d be superheroes or we’d live in a caste and we’d be happy.”
“Thats sweet.”
“Yeah. He was. He was just the best. He always looked after me, no matter what. None of his friends were aloud to make fun of me no matter how old we were, and when I didn’t have many friends when I was younger he’d make sure I never felt lonely...he was a good person.”
“He was yeah.” You nod in agreement. “When I was about ten, he was playing football with a bunch of his friends and I was walking past them, trying to get away from them as soon as possible. He ended up throwing the ball and it hit me right in the end making me fall over. And instead of laughing, he ran over to me and he said sorry while helping me up. Then he took me to the nurses office and waited with me until my dad picked me up.” You smile flickers for a moment at the mention of your father and Cheryl seems to pick up on it, placing a gentle hand on your arm making you smile a little. “If that was any other boy, they would have laughed. But no, he helped me and I think that sums up Jason perfectly.”
“Yeah. It really does.” She looks at you properly, for what is probably the first time ever and she feels her breathing quicken. How was she ever mean to you? Your eyes are sparkling in the sunlight as you talk about the very few memories of Jason, and she has to fight the urge to cry. Nobody apart from her brother has ever been this nice to her, and after Jason’s death, nobody really said anything nice about him, they usually just talked about the theories surrounding his murder.
A soft smile dances across your lips, the corners of your lips curled upwards and she feels herself mirroring it. Your hair blows a little in the slight breeze and you tuck the stray bits behind your ear, leaving the rest to fall around your face. She giggles when your nose scrunches up at a particularly gross part of a story involving puke and a swimming pool and she frowns when you stop laughing, due to a sad part in a story that also involves your father. She just wants to wrap her arms around you and forget about the entire world and all of the horrible things in it.
“Did that help?” You ask and she nods, a sweet smile on her lips as she looks at you.
“Yeah...thanks.”
“No problem!” You reply, a bright grin on your face and she feels her heart flutter at the sight. She’s never really seen you smile like this, and even if she has caught a glimpse of it, its never directed at her. She feels like she needs to go back in time and right all of those wrongs because she needs to see you smile like that more often.
“If you don’t mind me asking, why exactly were you skulking around the bleachers in the first place?”
“Oh. I was looking for my bag.”
“How’d you lose a whole bag?” She laughs but when she notices you looking at her, your eyebrows raised, she remembers how you could lose a whole bag. “Oh, yeah. Sorry about that.”
“You can make it up to me by telling me where it is.” You nudge her shoulder and she grimaces.
“Yeahhh. About that. You’re not going to like where they put it.”
“Where did they put it?” You narrow your eyes at her.
“The bin...in the cafeteria.”
“Damn.” You sigh. “Well, I suppose it needed a wash anyway.”
“Sorry.” She sighs, looking at the floor.
“Its fine.” You grab her hand and she looks at you surprised making you pull your hand away (much to her disappointment). “I kind of deserved it. What Veronica said was pretty harsh and I didn’t say anything.”
“No, no. You didn’t say it, you didn’t say anything actually. I was really mean to you and you just took it. I’m so sorry.”
“If it makes you feel any better I did call you a bitch after you left.” You shrug and she looks at your surprised.
“You know.” She stands up and dusts her skirt off, offering you a hand afterwards. “That does kind of make me feel a little better.”
“I’m glad.” You grin and let her pull you up.
“I can help you find your bag and then give you a lift home...thats if you want to.” She trails off at the end, she never feels nervous, but suddenly you’re making her more nervous than she’s ever felt before.
“Sure.” You nod. “You can tell me more stories about Jason if you want.” You ask and its only now that you realize you’re still holding her hand. You mumble a quick sorry and let go before starting to walk away. “You coming?” You look back at her and she swears her heart actually skips a beat as she stares at you, the sun behind you makes you look ethereal, and she’s always believed in angels, but its only now that she’s actually seen one.
“Yeah.” She nods. “Y/n?”
“Yeah?”
“I don’t think anybody could forget that you existed.”
especially not me...not now
-----
“Did you find your bag honey?” Your mom asks as you walk into the kitchen.
“Mom. You’re back early.” You smile awkwardly at her and then to Archie, who’s stood on the other end of the kitchen with a worried expression on his face. It doesn’t take you a minute to figure out Veronica is upstairs and he’s trying to sneak her out.
“Well, yeah.” She nods and takes a sip of coffee. “I was finished my work and I wanted to spend time with my babies.” She pinches your cheek softly making you roll your eyes. Archie is still looking towards the door and you can hear the slight creaks of the floorboards as Veronica tries to sneak down the stairs.
“I-” Archie is about to practically shout over the noise but your mom puts her hand up in the air, effectively stopping him.
“Just tell her to come down. She can stay for dinner if she wants.” She shakes her head and sends you a quick smile making you giggle.
“Right. Yes. Okay.” He nods and quickly makes his way to the stairs. There’s quiet mumbling before Veronica appears by his side in the doorway of the kitchen, both of them with sweet smiles as they look at your mom.
“Hi, Mrs Andrews.” Veronica waves. “Hey Y/n. Did you find your bag?”
“Yeah. It was in a bin.” You shrug and they all look at you.
“Honey, why would someone do that? Do you want me to call the school?”
“Its fine mom.” You shake your head. “Its just Cheryl and her friends.”
“Well we should talk to someone. They can’t go around putting people’s belongings in the bin. The law clearly state-”
“Mom.” You interrupt her as you sit at the table. “Its fine. She was actually very sorry about it.”
“What!?!” Both Veronica and Archie’s jaws drop while they look at you wide-eyed.
“Cheryl was sorry?” Veronica asks in disbelief.
“Yeah.” You shrug. “She helped me look for it.”
“Yeah. I don’t believe that in the slightest.” She replies.
“Definitely. She’s got something planned. And its big.” Archie agrees.
“Or she could just be being nice. That does actually happen you know.” You reply and he laughs sarcastically.
“Yeah, I don’t think she knows how to be nice. Why are you even defending her? Earlier today you asked if she would ever stop being a bitch.”
“Archie! Language!” Your mom scolds and the two of your roll your eyes.
“That was before I had an actual conversation with her instead of insulting her. Which is what you do.”
“I don’t insult her, Veronica insults her.” He replies.
“Archie!” Veronica slaps him arm lightly and he mumbles a quick apology.
“Yeah, but you don’t do anything to stop the insults.”
“Neither do you.” He retorts and you cross your arms.
“Well, I’m doing it right now s-”
“Okay!” Your mom shouts instantly shutting everyone up. “Thats enough. We’re going to have a nice family dinner and we’re going to enjoy each others company. Now stop shouting at each other. And say sorry.”
It takes a few seconds and a lot of glares and huffs but eventually you say sorry to each other and Archie sits on the opposite side of the table of you, followed quickly by Veronica.
“Do you like Cheryl?” He mouths while your mom is plating up the food and when she isn’t looking you make sure to kick him under the table, earning a death glare from him.
“God no.” You huff, scrunching your face up which makes him laugh.
maybe a little
-----
“Here comes the she-devil.” Jughead mumbles quietly and you all look in the direction that he was nodding to. Cheryl is walking towards your table, with a look you’ve never really seen before. Not one thats directed at your friends anyway. She looks happy. A lot different to how you found her yesterday and you’re glad she’s not as sad, a smile really suits her.
“Oh god.” Veronica mumbles as she takes a sip from her drink. “Hey, did we tell you where she hid Y/n’s bag yesterday?” She asks, lowering her voice as Cheryl gets closer and Betty and Jughead shake their heads, leaning further towards her. “In the cafeteria bin.”
“Gross.” Betty scrunches her face up.
“Thats just unhygienic.” Jughead adds.
“You’re telling me.” Veronica replies. “Mrs Andrews had to wash it three times to get the smell of the soup out.”
“Ewww.” They laugh and you send them a quick glare before looking at Cheryl.
“Greetings fellow students.” Cheryl stops in front or your table and the laughter stops. You swear you can see a flicker of sadness flash through her eyes and you decide to quickly change the subject.
“Cheryl!” You smile brightly at her and the sadness you thought you saw disappears completely. Its not everyday that somebody has been this happy to see her and she decides to grab it with both hands.
All night she was up thinking about you, thinking about how she could have gone so long not noticing you, and how she needs to make sure everybody notices you. Everyone needs to know about you. Y/n Andrews, the girl who could take some of Cheryl Blossom’s sadness away, something that has never been done before.
“Hi Cheryl.” Betty greets her and she forces a polite smile to look at your friends, making it a little bigger as she looks at your brother.
“Hi.” She replies. “Can I sit?” She’s now looking back at you, pointing to the seat beside you and you nod, quickly moving down so she can sit beside you. Archie huffs as he’s pushed off the end of the table and he quickly grabs a seat so he can sit back down.
“Are you feeling any better today?” You voice is quiet, barely above a whisper as you ask her a question and she can’t help but fall a little more for you, because you didn’t shout her business, not like everybody else does. You made sure only she could hear you.
“Yeah.” She nods. “Much better. I still miss him, but it doesn’t hurt as much.”
“I’m glad.” You smile. “Anyway.” Your voice is louder and the quiet mumbles from your friends have stopped. “Can we help you with anything?”
“Yes actually! Y/n, how would you feel about joining the Vixens?” Her smile is warm and kind but the words that have just come from her lips make your bold run cold. Your friends look at each other before looking back at you and you can feel yourself getting hotter and hotter.
“I don’t know Cheryl.” You start, your voice nervous as you try and find the best way to let her down gently. She’s only started being nice to you but you’d rather stick forks in your eyes than be a cheerleader, not with them anyway. They’re mean and rude and they think they’re better than everyone...but you’re not going to say that to Cheryl, so instead you decide on something a little nicer. “It’s just not really my type of thing. Plus, I don’t think they really like me.”
“Can you imagine, Y/n as a cheerleader.” Archie chuckles making you and Cheryl roll your eyes.
“Whats wrong with being a cheerleader?” Cheryl asks and crosses her arms.
“Yeah, Archie. Or are you forgetting that your girlfriend is a Vixen?” You add and Cheryl sends you a small smile which makes your head feel a little fuzzy.
“There’s nothing wrong with being a Vixen. But Y/n being a Vixen is just funny.”
“And why is that dear brother?” You raise an eyebrow and he gulps. He mumbles a quick ‘nothing’, before going back to eating.
“I really do think you should at least try-out. I think you’ll be great. Plus, if any of the girls say anything, which they won’t, they’ll have me to answer to.” She explains and you think about it for a minute. Would it be really bad to be part of the school’s cheerleading squad. The reasonable part of your brain is saying, more like screaming, yes its the worst idea in the world. But the slightly less reasonable and the slightly more gay part is screaming hell yeah. Surrounded by wonderful, smart if not slightly intimidating girls...plus, Cheryl!
“Fine.” You give in. “I’ll try out.”
“Yay!” She claps her hands excitedly before standing up and brushing her hair over her shoulder. The small gesture has you mesmerized and you have to force yourself to remember where you are in order to regain all your thoughts, the number one being, ‘what the hell was that about?’ “I’ll see you after school! Goodbye Y/n.” She waves at you before starting to walk away and its only when Betty clears her throat that she turns around again to wave everybody else off.
Your brother decides to wait until she’s out of earshot until he starts talking again, and the first thing he says is something that doesn’t really surprise you.
“Y/n and Cheryl, kissing in a tree.” He teases, making a kissy face and you throw a handful of food at him. The rest of your friends let out the laughter they’ve been holding in and you roll your eyes so hard you swear they’re going to fall out.
“How old are you?” You huff.
“Old enough to see that Cheryl fancies you.”
“Shut up!”
-----
Cheryl didn’t just fancy you.
She liked you.
Actually she was head over heels, doodling your initials in a heart, mind goes fuzzy anytime she sees you, in love with you.
And you? Well, you were none the wiser.
You just thought she was being friendly. Maybe more than the average person but Cheryl hasn’t had many close friends so maybe this is the only way she knows how to keep them.
She’s holding your hand? She just wants to make sure you know you’re not alone. Her hugs are a bit longer than normal? Come on, the girl deserves a long hug. She always finds a way to include you in conversation? She’s just being sweet.
Yes, Cheryl Blossom was becoming a slightly more bearable person, and it only seemed to happen when you were around. Leaving everyone to have their own conspiracies.
Archie’s was of course that she was in love with you. “Yeah right. Like that would happen Archie.”
Veronica’s was that it was one long prank to get back at everyone who’d hurt her. “Veronica, thats just sociopathic.”
Betty’s was slightly less weird, that she probably just wants to make a friend and so she’s being overly nice to fool people into thinking she hasn’t got a heart made of ice. “Thats just mean.”
And Jughead’s was that she’d either been possessed by a poltergeist. “Aren’t they supposed to be mean?” Or, that she’d been taken over by aliens. “I think they’d have better things to do than make Cheryl nice.”
Plus there was all of the other ridiculous rumors flying around school, but she either seemed to not hear or just ignore them.
“Y/n. Are you even listening to me?” You’re pulled back down to earth by Cheryl waving her hands in front of your face.
“What? Yeah. Huh?” You ask and she huffs, crossing her arms over her chest.
“I was talking you through the routine for Friday. You know the whole reason why we’re in the gym after school.”
“Yes. Yes. I remember.” You stand and she shakes her head, despite the smile thats threatening to ruin her facade.
“Okay.” She stands beside you. “Are you watching?” She asks and glances at you, a smile making its way onto her face as she watches you go over the steps in your head. Your frowning slightly at you try to remember the steps and she can’t help but giggle a little as your arms start to move to.
“What?” You ask.
“Nothing.” She shakes her head. “Ready?”
“Ye-”
“Good.” She nods. The music starts and she begins to go through the steps, you following a step behind her. However half way through you get distracted by the way she’s moving and then it hits you.
I’m in love with with Cheryl Blossom.
“Shit.” You mumble and she turns around quickly.
“Everything okay?”
“Yeah, I erm. I just got a bit distracted. Sorry.”
“Its fine.” She smiles brightly. “Lets go again, I’ll help you this time.”
“You’re already helping me.” You reply and she rolls her eyes.
“I’ll help you even more.” She hits your arm lightly and your heart goes hay-wire at the small interaction. “Stand there.” You do as she says and the next thing you know she’s stood behind you were her hands on your hips.
“Wha-at, are you doing?” You stutter, your breathing getting quicker with each second. Her perfume is suffocating you, but in the best way and her breath is hot on your neck as she leans over you a little.
“He-helping.” She replies, also stuttering a bit and your swear you hear her breath hitch when you move your head to look at her. Your lips are millimeters away from hers, and if you leaned in just a little more you’d be kissing her, something you really want to do right now. You wonder what her lips would feel like against yours, how soft they’d be and if her lipstick would stain you, forever leaving a mark on you. “Y/n?”
“Yeah?” Your eyes flicker up to meet hers and it feels like she’s staring directly into your soul.
“Can I kiss you?”
“Absolutely.” You reply and within seconds her lips are on yours, her hands gripping your waist tightly to turn you around. What you thought kissing Cheryl would be like, and actually kissing Cheryl, are completely different. Her lips are softer than you could ever imagine. Her lipstick tastes like cherries with a hint of maple syrup and you don’t think pancakes are ever going to taste the same again.
You both pull away, a bright blush on both of your faces and she giggles a little as she wipes the lipstick from the side of your face. But it doesn’t matter, she left a mark on you that day behind the bleachers, and you don’t think you’re ever going to be the same again...not that you’d really want to be.

Note
I hope I'm not bothering you, so feel free to ignore this, but I yearn to know: if you had full creative control of the show, how would you run season 5? You can pick and choose whatever leaks you want to include.
So it's better late than never. Seriously for don't answer before and make you wait I didn't forget it I just this was more difficult than I expected every time I saw the white page on my computer I didn't felt the inspiration or have the energy to do it but it's 3 am, I can't sleep sooooo
let's started:
*jughead won't be alcoholic *Veronica isn't married *that awful song doesn't exist, that dint happen was just a collective nightmare instead veronica sings "I kissed a girl" to betty bcs I want to. * maybe is unpopular but I'm not excited for the idea of all working on the high school post-time jump give me glee flashbacks and I hate it. * I will ignore all the new interviews, stills, spoilers. I choose delusion. * I use the phrase "rebuild the truth" a lot Even when I hate it I will give more priority to the cheating storyline and the arcs of the characters how this will affect not only their relationship romantic/friendship. I would put a really heart-heart conversation between Jarchie, Beronica, and Barchie; Ba comes clear apologizing bcs they make a mistake and being sincere with JV. Talking about Ba I dig more into their thinking, motivations, and feelings for both, Give to Archie his point of view and give MORE priority to the core 4 trauma and how they deal with it. And then try to figure out how it could move the plot of the mystery like maybe when Jughead finds out about the kiss he tries to distract himself and go more into the mystery as we see before. Archie's having the things clear in the end but Veronica choosing herself first and deciding that break up would be the best even when it would hurt both. I would show a bit of their life's out on Riverdale Just to the end of the episode, there's some reason everybody comes back to the town probably related to the death (I still think that pops will die). Veronica would be a successful businesswoman, she is an icon in New York and dates a beautiful woman called Rebbeca but when veronica decides to come back to RVD they break up, bcs Rebecca wants to take a time to work on herself, and Veronica comebacks to Riverdale to take control again of pops and start to work with Tabitha remodeling pops maybe and maybe try to become it a franchise. I'm not sure what I would do with Archie but the writers either, so I'll keep the firefighter storyline but he would use a shirt all the time bcs I'm tired of seeing KJ on shirtless (at this point is every man of this show) also he will take total control of Fred's construction company. Veronica contracts Fred's company and varied start to spend more and more time together and try to be just friends while finding their way back to each other and obviously angsty, pining, longing maybe a bit more of angsty and Pining Archie fight for V love. I'll give Toni the screentime that she deserves and let her shine for herself I would like that the show makes justice to the choni/Toni storyline this season but I learn don't get my hope up with this show focusing on the Toni family and her backstory more and making her an individual character again. I'll love to see more musicals moments Vannesa and drew singing together, and Toni and fangs being on a band give to me now. I think first I will talk about ba and then about betty. Love triangle: No más eso no sirve. So I will end with that before time jump they will still felt guilty and regretful for hurt JV and lose them. Archie always be the boy that betty dreamed of for too long and Bettys will always have on Archies heart also they don't idealize each other anymore but still, they will love each other but in a different way.I'm not against the show exploring new relationships and least to betty dating someone else I always expected that the writers will explore ba at some point, I just expected something different, so I'm not against ba dating post time jump for any reason that the writers could think but the thing I would do its ba talking about their feelings for one another, discussing how to live could've been if he never rejected her (not so much bcs Jason was already death, anyways) make a what-if episode/ or an Au episode where Archie don't reject betty but ultimately in that episode it is shown that they are better off as friends & that the road not taken still would lead to bugvarchie.
One thing that I love about the s1 is that in a way or another everybody was involved in the mystery the core 6 with Toni and the serpents could be a good way to get information. One of the points of the season will be the redemption and the rebuild of the seasons so I will go to a semi-slow-burn with the friendships of the shows, I never feel what I supposed to feel for Jarchie but one of the things that I love about some fics saw the rebuild of beronica friendship so I would put so much effort on that and put more moments when we could appreciate the friendship of the core 4 to make it feel more genuine.  Veronica will forgive Betty when seeing how much betty misses her and try to fix the things between them.
As a lot of people do I think that bughead won't break up pre-time jump, Jughead will forgive betty and they will try a long-distance relationship I would like to say that they will leave the cheating behind we would see them being happy and walking to the sunset and live happily ever after but a cheating storyline for them breaking up for the distance doesn't feel good to me so the cheating will affect their relationship and they will try to get over it but it will be a little factor+ the distance and all the responsibilities that have on the university combined make them realize that the timing isn't right, time apart for growing individually, met other people, so they talk about and decide that break up is the best and have a friendly break up.
I think that betty would meet a lot of people some serious relationships other not so serious she will meet some idiots sadly wemet some idiots (that she later will tell veronica and they would laugh together about the looser that stood up Betty and didn't see her on that beautiful readdress) and some really nice guys, Charmings that will care about her and he will want her but sadly the things won't work out. Betty being an FBI agent I'm in, betty being a full badass I'm in, her struggling to follow the rules of the FBI I'm in that's the betty that we love. I have not problems with our favs having difficult times I would keep him having writers' block but not one hit writer I will go to him having problems to find the inspiration to write the end of the story that he starts a long time ago. And for Jessica even when I would like to see jealous betty it seems that every relationship at the beginning of the time jump its borrow time and that's unfair for her so they will be together like 2 or 3 eps max, I think Jughead will love her but on a different way that he loves betty and their relationship seems that isn't on a good moment since the beginning so betty being again on jughead life will be just little factor on their relationship I would put betty investigating the disappearance of Polly and jughead with the Mothman they investigating in different paths until the next episode to see that their investigation is related and start to work together. I'm here to see bughead being single for a time, see their relationships as friends then I will go to the undercover/fake dating/kissing for a cover route I will go for angst, the pining, jealousy, Longing looks, and denial of their feelings and there would be conflict both being scare pf their feelings, let the walls that the build after years being apart down until they can hide the fact that never stop loving to each other. Also, I add this of last moment while we explore bughead future I would show more about bughead backstory, go more into their friendship and pre-pilot relationship, they reading together young Jughead pining for young betty I'm a sucker for that.

 A/N: this is for both @southsidearchive theme 1 and @riverdale-events theme 3
"Get down!" Sweet Pea grabbed your arm and forced you to duck behind a parked car as another passed by on the street. You peeked around the car to watch as the cars tail lights disappear.
You leaned back next to Sweet Pea and burst into giggles. It couldn't be helped. The thrill of what Sweet Pea and you had planned tonight had you giddy. When it was clear that you weren't going to stop, Sweet Pea grabbed your face and pecked you softly.
"Sh..." He murmured but it seemed that your giddiness was contagious and he too started to laugh with you. "You do this every year." He punctuated each word with kiss.
"I'm sorry. I just get so excited." You kissed him once more before pulling back and resting your hands on his neck. "You ready?"
Sweet Pea grabbed a duffel bag that was beside him and yanked it open. He had you check to see if the cost was clear, he tossed you a package from the bag.
"Put your hood up." Sweet Pea whispered, doing the same. He motioned for you follow him up into the Cooper yard. "Ready?" He grinned when you nodded, both of you let loose in covering the trees, bushes and grass with rolls of toilet paper.
"Maybe now the crazy bitch will think twice before blaming the Southside for everything." Sweet Pea flipped the closed door off before grabbing your hand and rushing back to the duffel bag. "Which on next?"
"I wanna fork Archie's yard." You giggle and grab a box plastic forks from the bag and almost skipped next door.
Halloween pranks were your things. There was something about the ambiance of a fall night, creepy decorations, and spending the night with Sweet Pea. All that just seemed to melt the stress of life away. And in a town like Riverdale, there was always stress.
For the past three years, Sweet Pea and you had been terrorizing both the North and Southside with your pranks. It was when you had dared to cross the lines of friends to couple.
"This is really a stupid prank Sweet Pea." You sighed and tossed the empty can of spray paint in the bag on the ground.
"Hey, you asked me to come pranking with you. And that I could choose a few of my own. I think this is a good one." He stood back and admired his handy work.
"Its juvenile..." With a sigh and shake of your head, you turned to look for a new house to terrorize. "Painting penis' in the grass is something I expect from a twelve year old."
Sweet Pea glared at you for a minute before stomping his way over to you.
"Look, I didn't have to come out. I could be at the Wyrm right now, playing pool and making bank. I don't need to be criticized by you (Y/N)." You glared right back at him, upset that the evening was taking a sour turn so soon. "Honestly, why the hell did you even ask me out here anyways? Thought you liked to spend your nights with Fangs." He snapped bitterly.
"In case you haven't noticed, Fangs isn't exactly the most stealthy of people. And what does Fogarty and I hanging out have to do with any of this. And why do you care?" You snapped back.
"I don't." Sweet Pea scoffed and threw his empty can into a bag also. "Just pointing out that you seem to like the new Serpent." There was something off in his voice.
"Yeah, I like him." You watched as Sweet Pea's whole body tensed up. "But he is seriously the human embodiment of a puppy. And why the hell do you sound so..." It took a moment for you figure it out. "Jealous." You mumbled. Sweet Pea scoffed again, crossing his arms and refusing to make eye contact.
The air was still and quiet, the moment stretching to feel like an eternity.
"I am." He sighed, still not making eye contact. "It used to be us and I thought it was always going to be just us." He waved his hand between the both of you. "And then some new kid comes along and it's not just us anymore. You're always off with him and it's like you don't even have time for me anymore. It's almost like you've replaced me. Are we even still the same friends were?"
Your heart started to beat a little faster. Taking a deep breath, you steeled yourself to reveal you're deepest secret to him. This may be the only time you were presented with the opportunity
"I don't want to be friends anymore, Sweet Pea." You admitted softly and had to look away from the look of absolute heartbreak on his face. You reached out and grabbed his arm as he tried to storm past you, rushing the next sentence out. "I can't keep being friends with you because I'm in love with you."
And for the second time that night, everything was still. Sweet Pea slowly turned to look at you, unreadable look on his face.
"I can't be just friends with you anymore Pea. I-"
"How long." His voice was soft, you almost missed it. You shrugged, hugged your arms around yourself and looked at the ground. "(Y/N/N)..." He lifted your chin gently, "Talk to me."
"For a couple years." He sighed and inquired as to why you never said anything. "Because i didn't want to lose this, what we have. You're like, one of the most important people in my life Sweets. But I just can't pretend anymore. I'm sorry."
"Don't." He sighed and pulled you into a tight hug. "You don't need to pretend with me." He sighed again and pressed soft kisses to the top of your head. It felt relieving to finally get it all off your chest. For a long while the two of you staying like that, holding each other.
"I love you." He said into your hair. "I have for what felt like forever."
"We're both stupid." You laughed, pulling back slightly. "Wanna be stupid together?"
"Is that even a question." Sweet Pea grinned and leaned down to brush his lips over yours.
"I think we're done here." You sighed happily and took a step back to admire your hard work. There were a couple dozen forks stuck in the Andrew yard. With a look down the street, you could see that Sweet Pea and forked three more lawns.
You meet up at the end of the street, almost every house having been vandalized. The both of you just stood for a few minutes, admiring handiwork.
"We still have time for one more prank." Sweet Pea said, pulling out his phone to check the time.
"And I," You stood on tiptoes and places a chaste kiss to lips. "Know exactly what I want to do."
                                          ~*~
The hallways of Riverdale were always packed first thing in the morning, that's why you opted to wait in the student lounge with Sweets until last minute. That's where Betty Cooper and friends found the pair. Sitting together in one of the arm chairs and playfully thumb wrestling. They were both laughing and smiling but Sweet Pea sobered up when the group stormed over to them.
"My mother is furious." Betty snapped plopping down on the couch, glaring at you. "She wants to press charges for vandalism as soon as she has proof."
"Um... What the hell are you talking about, Betty?" You feigned ignorance.
"Don't play innocent." Archie leaned over the couch behind Betty, frowning. "My dad broke half of those forks before he gave up. How the hell are we suppose to get those out?"
"What make you so sure-" Sweet Pea started defensively before Jughead cut him off.
"Byrdie overheard you at the Wyrm running prank ideas to Fangs Sweet Pea. She told my dad who asked me to keep you two in line."
"Swell job." You rolled your eyes. Jughead scoffed and slumped into the seat next tot Betty. "Look, there is no way to prove it was us. Plus, everything was harmless." You slid off Sweet Pea's lap and grabbed your bag from the floor. "Well, almost all of them were harmless." You gave Sweets a knowing smile.
"Wait, what does that mean?" Veronica demanded from the other armchair. "What the hell did you do?"
You didn't a chance to reply because at that moment, a very angry Reggie Mantle stormed into the lounge with some of the Bulldogs stalking behind him.
"I want to know who the fuck pulled all those pranks on the Northside." He growled while looking at Sweet Pea and I.
"Why, something happen?" Sweet Pea tried to keep the smile off his face and you 'accidentally' stomped on his foot. Reggie was about to launch at Sweet Pea when you stepping in front of him.
"Before you try to blame Sweets, you should know we were at the Wyrm all night. Right Jughead?" You turned to your friend and gave him a pleading look. Jughead looked like he wanted nothing more than to choke you.
"Yeah. They were there all night." He ground out, glaring at you. "What happened to you?"
"Someone messed with Bella." Reggie hissed, referring to his prized muscle car. "Put jolly ranchers on the windows and then wrapped her in cling wrap. Do you know how long its gonna take to get that shit off?"
"Sounds like you better get on it then." You wanted to slap Sweets upside the head. Reggie continued to stare you down, fuming before threatening to kill whoever harmed his car and leaving.
"Are you daft?" Betty nervously ran her hand thru her ponytail.
"He's mad now." You shrugged and held out a hand for Sweets. He stood and wrapped an arm around your shoulder, leading you towards the hall. "He'll be even madder when he realizes that we fucked on the hood first."
You could only laugh at the shocked expressions on your friends faces as Sweet Pea and you left, while thinking of pranks for next year.

An Aroace in Need of Space…and Hamburgers [3/8]
part 1 | part 2 | ao3
Chapter 3: Boring Mornings and Lazy Afternoons
"It's way too early for this," Jughead muttered when his alarm sounded the next morning, jolting him awake with its loud, obnoxious rings. Groaning in frustration, he sat up to silence the alarm--or the "Robot-Banshee Death Child" as he liked to call it. He opened his eyes slowly, blinking to adjust to the sunlight flooding into his room, and when he could finally see, he noticed his computer was perilously close the end of his bed, his phone was on the floor, and a book was held loosely in his hand, his finger wedged between pages. After adjusting his beanie to ensure it was places securely on his head, he flopped back down on his bed, prolonging the time between waking up and going to school as much as possible. Knowing he couldn't lie there forever--no matter how bad he wanted to--he finally dragged himself out of bed, all the while cursing his never-ending thirst for knowledge.
As he started to get dressed, grabbing the first tee shirt he could find, along with a pair of jeans, black boots, a charcoal flannel, and his serpent jacket, Jughead recalled how he lay in bed last night, devouring the information held within the documents Kevin had sent him. His plan had been to just glance over the stuff to get an idea of what he was working with, but once he started reading, he couldn't stop. It was addicting. He found himself more and more interested in the community several of his friends were a part of, and he wondered why he'd never looked into it before. In just a few hours, he'd learned more than he could have predicted; there were a documents which looked into parts of the LGBT+ community that weren't discussed as often as others, information on the way discrimination existed within the commentary itself, and some fascinating, reliable statistics. As much as Jughead wanted to continue his research and start writing the article, he knew it would have to wait. After all, he did still have to go to school.
The day seemed to drag on, and Jughead was tempted to make sure the clocks at the school were actually working because it seemed as though every time he glanced at the clock, no time had passed.
Finally, the bell rang, signaling the beginning of lunch, and Jughead bolted from the classroom he was sitting in, making his way to the cafeteria. As doors opened and students fled classrooms,  the halls got more crowded, much to Jughead's annoyance. He pushed through the crowd, but when he heard someone call out his name, he spun around, looking for whomever had spoken, and he spotted someone waving in his direction from a large group gathered by the lockers lining the hallway. He made his way to the group, trying to see past the students headed towards the cafeteria. After what felt like a long time, the halls started to clear as the rush ended, and Jughead walked up to the group, smiling when he saw Toni standing  next to Sweet Pea, Fangs, Cheryl, Betty, and Veronica.
"Took you long enough to get here!" she said.
"Well, you are kind of hard to see, Toni" jughead said, smiling. Toni crossed her arms, and was about to speak, but before she could, Jughead said "Especially when you are surrounded by all of these normal-sized people, shortie." The whole group laughed at that, and Toni slapped his arm playfully.
"It's not my fault that this one," she said, tilting her head towards Sweet Pea, "didn't care to help me get your attention." Jughead chuckled as he saw the sparkle in Sweet Pea's eyes and his mischievous smirk.
"Hey, it is not my fault!" Sweet Pea added, raising his hands in surrender. "All I said was that because you wanted to talk to Jughead, you should be the one to get his attention."
"You need to talk to him too, and we both know it. You just think it's funny to watch me jump up and down to see over everyone else!"
"Well, you aren't wrong about that, it's pretty entertaining," Sweet Pea shrugged. "But that's not the point here." Turning to Jughead, he said "So, we were wondering if you're down to ditch the last few classes with us." Jughead raised his eyebrows and turned to Betty, who looked like she was about to burst out laughing any second.
"Was this your idea, miss near-perfect attendance?"
"Actually, it was mine" Veronica said, stepping forward, reminding Jughead of her presence. While he was surprised a new student was already ditching, he didn't think it was really a big deal; she seemed smart enough.
"I'm in, but there is one condition" Jughead said, putting on a serious expression, crossing his arms, and making eye contact with everyone before his eyes locked with Veronica's.
"And what would that be?" Veronica questioned, a slight edge to her voice.
"If we're leaving, the first stop has to be Pop's; I'm so hungry." As if to emphasize his statement, his stomach grumbled.
"I thought you were being serious!" Cheryl said, giggling and nudging Toni's shoulder jokingly.
"Oh, I'm serious; I don't joke about food--especially not hamburgers!" The group made their way to the parking lot, excited to spend some time together outside of school.
The group entered Pops, and while Jughead was enjoying himself, there was something bothering him. As he reached over the table to grab a handful of fries, he asked "Hey, Where's Archie?"  No one had an answer, and the table fell silent, each person lost in thought.
"He's probably playing the guitar or something" Betty piped up after a few moments. "I texted him earlier, but I haven't heard back."
"Guys, there is an easy way to solve this," Veronica said as she got up from her seat and headed towards the door, phone in hand. "I'll be back in just a minute, I just have to make a quick call," she yelled to the table before disappearing through the doorway. The people seated at the table looked at each other in confusion; they wondered why a call from Veronica, of all people, would receive a different reaction than a call from any of them. The group had already started talking about what to do next when Veronica returned to her spot at the table, looking satisfied with herself.
"Archie will be here in a few minutes, he just got out of class late and missed our messages from earlier," she declared. Instantly, all heads turned towards her. "What is it? Why are you all looking at me?" she asked, confused.
"O.M.G.--I know that look!" Cheryl teased, dropping her jaw. "Someone has been doing a little flirting, haven't they?" she asked Veronica, causing her to look down and blush slightly. As a car pulled into the lot outside of Pop's, everyone turned to look, and they were met with the of see Archie behind the wheel, grinning. "Clearly you aren't the only one who has developed an interest," Cheryl whispered, smirking, before turning her attention towards Toni.
Veronica was about to reply, but Archie entered at that exact moment, announcing himself with a loud "hey guys!" Just as he started to sit down, the waitress came over and took their used dishes and gave them the check. Archie frowned a little as he realized everyone was ready to leave; he didn't want to eat alone.
Betty saw his frown, and asked if he wanted them to stay and wait for him. He shook his head and shrugged, watching the group shuffle out of the restaurant. Veronica was still there, but all her things were packed into her purse, ave for her phone, so Archie assumed she was about to leave too. After sending off a quick text, she set her phone down, but she made no move to stand.
Instead, she looked up at Archie and said "you didn't think I'd call you here only to leave, right?" Archie looked down sheepishly but quickly returned his gaze to Veronica.
"Well, to be honest, I didn't really know" Archie responded, causing Veronica to laugh and shake her head in a mixture of amusement and exasperation.
Meanwhile, outside the diner, Cheryl, Toni, Sweet Pea, Fangs, Jughead, and Betty were all standing around their bikes, making sure everyone was ready to go. The group had decided they to split up for the afternoon so they could home and rest or spend time with their partner; both of which sounded appealing to the group of tired students. After making plans to meet upat the White Wyrm tomorrow night, people turned on their engines and left the parking lot, driving towards the South Side. Fangs was the first to speed off, followed by Cheryl and Toni, who were both on Toni's bike, Cheryl behind Toni, her arms wrapped around the other girl's torso. Next was Sweet Pea, who nodded his head in departure before increasing the speed of his bike, causing the engine to rev loudly.
"He won't be sneaking up on anyone with that engine," Betty joked as she climbed onto Jughead's bike to sit behind him. Jughead chuckled in response and muttered what sounded like "you got that right," but Betty wasn't entirely sure; the wheels and engine made it hard to hear. Unlike all the other bikes who had already left, Jughead turned towards the Northside of town, headed for Betty's house. She smiled as they drove, looking forward to an afternoon of working on the school paper, discussing conspiracy theories, and watching movies with Jughead.

In love with your brothers best friend
FP jones/Reader
Summary: Beings Fred sister and meeting FP for the first time. FP never new you growing up because you didn't live with Fred as you are his half sister. You come back to support Fred when Archie has ran away.
I drive to somewhere called pops I have never been to Riverdale before even though my brother lives here I'm normally too busy and Fred comes to me so he can get out of here for a few weeks. I park my car at the entrance of pops I look around and can see Fred sitting next to the window. I walk through the door and walk straight over to Fred. “Hey Fred” I say sliding next to him, “how you holding up” I ask. He sighs “I'm worried about him” he says I frown as he tells me all about what happened between Hiram and Archie.
As we sat and had some food just catching up on each others lives that we missed. Im younger than him by ten years, Im sat opposite the door which opens walking in is a group of guys. One stood at the front leading them to a booth which was on the other side of the restaurant than us. Something about the guy was intriguing to me, he was good looking, bit rough but that made him more handsome. I couldn't help but stare and watch him sit down. I caught the back of his black leather jacket I'm sure it said Southside serpent. I look at Fred confused “whats the Southside serpents” he sighs and looks over to them and tells me all about them. “who's the one by the window” I ask him. He looks over and says “thats FP” I smile looking over, “we were in school together his son Jughead is Archies best friend”. I smile as FP walks over “hey Fred how you holding up” he says giving me a smile. “I'm alright FP this is my sister Y/N” he says gesturing to me. I smile “hey” I say looking up at him, “I have never seen Y/N before Fred you hiding her away from riverdale” he says smirking. “something like that” Fred says. “Right see you both soon if your sticking around Y/N” he says flirting, I smile sweetly “I sure am someone needs to sort out all this mess” I say. FP winks at me as he walks out followed by the rest of the guys who came with him. Me and Fred drive back to his house which is lovely, bigger than I could ever afford.
The next few days I talk with Fred about everything thats going on trying to figure if there is anything I can do to help out but my mind is always thinking about FP. Later in the week I decide to leave Fred to do some jobs so I can take a walk around Riverdale. After exploring I decide to stop at pops to get a milkshake I slid into the booth the furthest one in the corner. I go through my phone as I drink my milkshake I feel someone coming to sit next to me. I look up and see FP sitting there. “hey” I say shyly, “Hey Y/N” FP said “what you doing here on your own”. “I was just going for a walk thought I would stop to get a drink” I say while looking into FP’s eyes. “aww Y/N a girl like you shouldn't be sat drinking milkshakes on there own” he says smirking. I smile “I'm a big girl I don't need someones company” I say smiling “but if your offering to join me then I won't mind” I smirk. “Well then I will” he says sitting right next to me, “So Y/N what do you do for a living”. I smile talking to him “I'm a nurse” he smiles looking into my (Y/eye colour) eyes, “well thats good I get hurt a lot I could do with having my own personal nurse” he says winking. I blush slightly looking at him “I'm not here for long but it will be a pleasure being your personal nurse” I say smirking. He smiles placing his hand on my thigh “what are you doing tomorrow” he says I smile slightly and say sweetly “nothing was just going to chill at Fred’s till he comes back or do you have someone in mind”. He smiles squeezing my thigh, “come spend the day with me “. I smile looking up from his hand to his eyes “sure what time”. He smiles widely “ill come pick you up at 12″ he says while getting up, “see you then” I smile as I see him leave through the door and jump on his motorbike which he started. I heard the thunder as he drove his motorbike away from pops towards the Southside.
I arrived back at Fred's house where he had come back from work. I open the door and walk through looking for Fred as I walk over to him. He catches me up with what he has been doing and I tell him all about the walk that I took I don't know why but I left the part about FP out. As the evening started to arrive turning into dusk. I decided to have an early night and catch up with life out of riverdale in the spare bedroom. I FaceTimed my Y/Friend/N to ask all about work and told her about tomorrow as it started to became late I said bye and hung up. I went to sleep dreaming about what tomorrow will bring.
I got up around 10 o'clock the house was pitch quiet, I could not here a sound. As I went to get in the shower the fresh water splashing onto my cold skin. I got my self out and dressed for the day. Looking in the mirror doing my make up ready for the day with FP. I was nervous to go out with FP someone I don't really know very well. But I was still really looking forward to getting to know him.As it got closer to 12 o'clock I started to sit near the window to wait for FP. Its not like I could miss him as I heard the roar from his motorbike before he even arrived at Fred's house. I smile leaving the house walking over to his motorbike I smirk “should we take my car I don't want to die on that death trap”. He smiles “you won't I'm a great driver baby” giving me a helmet I smile getting on the motorbike behind FP.  I cling to the back of him as he drives towards the Southside.
He stops near the bridge and parks up. We get off his bike and I give him my helmet I was wearing. I was shaking with adrenaline I actually enjoyed going on the bike, I felt safe with FP. We walk a little to a clearing by the water, we sit down on a piece of grass FP looks over at me smiling. “so Y/N how you liking Riverdale” I sigh “its alright just wish I was here for another reason”. “whats your favourite thing about being a nurse”, “main thing is helping others I'm actually a children's nurse so its definitely quite hard” I say sadly. He smiles slightly putting his hand on my cheek “I'm sure you do as much as you can”. I smile staring into FP’s eyes. “Do you have any children” FP asks me, “no do you” I ask. He nods “ yeah two children one girl and one boy”, “aww how old are they” I ask him smiling. “my eldest Jughead is 16 and Jellybean is 10″ he says smiling “Jughead lives with me but Jellybean lives with her mum”. After just talking about our lives it starts to get dark we get up to leave. FP gets up first and offers me his hand, he pulls me up and wraps his hands around me pulling me closer. I smile looking up at him as he moves closer our foreheads meet he grazes closer to my lips. He starts to kiss me as I kiss him back, before things get steamy I pull away. FP keeps me close my head rest on his chest and holds me tightly. After being in his embrace for two minutes he pushes me away gently, “we better go its getting to dark do you want to come for a drink first before I drop you home” i smile and nod “sure”. We drive to the Southside.
I cling to FP again we arrive at a place I read the sign and it says Whyte Wyrm. I get off when FP stops and again give him the helmet. As we go in I stay as close to FP as I can, FP grabs my hand leading to the bar. As he gets our drinks I look around at all the people in the bar, they all have the same jackets that FP has. Just as we had finished our drinks a guy rushed over “FP we have a problem” he then whispers something into his ears. He sighs looking at me “Y/N I have to go do you want me to get someone to drop you off”. I sigh and shake my head “no its fine ill get Fred to come pick me up”. He sighs and nods kissing my cheek as he gets up, “if someone messes with you while you wait message me and ill sort them out” he says. I smile “its fine see you soon”.
I phone Fred and he's on his way he comes and picks me up and we go home. After a few days I decide that Fred's alright now so I need to go home and get back to working. I phone Fp we have been talking since we have been out that day but we haven't met up since. “hey FP” I say into the phone, “you ok baby” he said. I smile “I've decided that I'm going back home tonight you free to come see me off”.He sighs and says “yeah ill be over in an hour” and hangs up. As I wait I pack and say goodbye to Fred and give him a hug. Just as I'm out in the car FP turns up I smile shyly at him. Fred goes back inside I smile walking over to FP he pulls me close. “do you have to go” he asks I sigh “ I have to go back to work but I only live 30 minutes away if you want to go on more dates”. He smiles “of course I do”, I smile “who knows what happens I might come and live in Riverdale”. He smiles and leans over giving me a kiss. I smile and kiss back after a while I pull away and get in the car to drive home. Fred now comes to FP and they both wave me off. I smile as I leave, I hope that we keep talking and I come live here in the future.

Pretend that Fred and FP were just friends earlier in life. Describe your dream scenario of current age fredsythe ending up in bed and love.
i’ll tell you what, as much as i love living in full lala land where they actually dated in high school and whatnot... this concept really gets me going too
even for this scenario i still imagine them both harboring secret crushes, its just that this time neither of them ever came out and were never able to really identify the feelings they were having because the environment they were living in wasnt really supportive of those attractions. so fred and fp were still super close best friends but any further feelings they may have been experiences were being written off or repressed until eventually they went on and had girlfriends that turned into wives that turned into families and they never really had to think about anything else again.
so with that all being said, ideally what i would like to happen is first and foremost, theyd have to actually have a friendship present day. not just conveniently hanging out when the other ones in desperate need of help (which... theres something to be said for the fact theyre always each others go to guy for help but ... thats another post. actually no. thats for this post. this is relevant.)
alright so theyre friends. actual friends. hanging out doing ... whatever supposedly straight men in their 40s do idk. watch football? play poker? ... fill in your own blanks maybe they take a pottery class thats not the point. the point is theyre spending more and more time together. getting closer. rebuilding that bond. and maybe those old secret crushes they had on each other resurface, but theyre both convinced that its one sided so it never gets brought up. cue the mutual pining.
and its getting serious. like freds starts catching himself staring so intently at fp when hes not looking, and fps catching himself thinking about fred all the time. always wants to text him about random shit he sees cuz it reminded him of fred, or he thinks fred would like it. theyre both dreaming about it each other... its some real romantic shit. but still. no ones saying anything.
until one day fred calls fp over cuz he needs help with some random thing that broke in his house (maybe the kitchen sink started acting up or whatever and fred cant seem to fix it himself). so fp comes over, helps him out. they get the thing working good as new, theyre all smiling and cheering and being dorks.
fred cracks some joke about fp always coming to his rescue and fp says he thinks its the other way around and theres a moment there where they both pause and just look at each other and theres definite tension there before fred smiles, and maybe hes blushing a little a looking away and says maybe its both.
with fp finished helping fred out hes getting ready to leave but then fred asks if he wants to stay for dinner. archies out with veronica for the night and its one of those ~oh i have too much food for just myself... you should stay and help me eat~ deals and who is fp to pass up a free meal? so he stays. maybe he even helps fred cook idk i think thatd be cute.
so then theyre eating together on the couch, watching ferris bueller or something, laughing and having a good time.
fred turns to look at fp at one point an hes got sauce or something on his lip, which only makes fp laugh harder. and hes trying to point it out to fred but fred keeps missing it with his napkin until eventually... of course because im a romcom loving cliched ass bitch.....fp reaches out to wipe it off with his thumb.
and they both freeze. cuz this is definitely the most intimate moment theyve ever had. sure, theyve seen each others dicks, and yet somehow this is way more personal.
now suddenly all these years of pent up emotions are bubbling to the surface and fred whispers “what are we doing, f?”
and fp, hand still on freds face, says “what do you mean?” but like... he knows.
freds eyes flicker to fps mouth and he swallows and says “this. us. im not the only one who feels it, right?”
and that shakes fp to his core because finally he has validation that this isnt one sided. so he strokes freds chin and shakes his head and says “no. youre not.” and theres a second before fred leans forward but stops, a moment of hesitation before trying again and hes leaning all the way in until his lips touch fps and fp stays still, hand still holding freds face, and the kiss gradually gets deeper, starting off closed until freds opening his mouth and taking fps top lip between his own, and then he’s slipping his tongue in, and fp lets out these little moans and from there its like the floodgates have been opened.
theyre clutching each other for everything theyre worth, fp pushes fred back and climbs in his lap, straddling him on the couch. movie still playing in the back. rest of their dinner long forgotten.
they dont fall into bed that night but... their hands definitely wind up down each others pants on the couch so... close enough.
and after they both come and theyre sitting there panting and breathless and blissed out from their high, fp lets it slip out that hes been wanting to do that since high school and that of course shocks fred, who just smiles real big and says “really?” and then fps all embarrassed and blushing but fred pushes his hair back and kisses his temple and says so has he and fp lets out this breathy laugh before nuzzling his face against freds neck an its just a very soft moment 🤧
and after they get all cleaned up and put the dishes away and its time for fp to head back home, theyre standing in freds doorway and they cant stop kissing each other because neither of them want fp to go home but fp cant stay the night. not with archie coming home soon. they gotta have a talk with the boys first before sleepovers start happening. but for now they can keep kissing and make plans for an actual date, and they both go to bed that night feeling happier and lighter than they have in years and like... archie and jughead know immediately somethings up cuz their dads are suddenly fucking giddy all the time, smiles plastered on their faces. every time fred and fp so much as get a text from each other the boys swear their dads fucking giggle and its a trip, man. these fucking nerd asses in love. we could have it so good you guys... 😭

I Found
This is based off of a song so i hope you like it and i highly recommend listening to the song. The bold italics are the lyrics and the regular is the actual plot.
Pairing: FP Jones x Andrews!Reader
Warnings: Just angst, some kissing, violence, mentions of being shot
Song: I Found by Amber Run
Word count: 2,164
And I’ll use you as a warning sign, that if you talk enough sense then you lose your mind.
You walked into the prison, your head low, red hair covering your tear stained cheeks.
“I’m here to see Forsythe Jones,” you mutter to the lady behind the glass. She looked up at you over her glasses, pity in her eyes.
“Thats the fourth time this week young lady.” You only nodded as she rang the buzzer. You had come to tell FP that Jughead had decided to become a serpent, then you came to just see him the other three times, but now, well now was different. You were in pain, you didn’t know what to do and he was the only on you wanted to turn too. You took a seat in the cold metal chair waiting for FP to sit across from you. Your hands twitched in your lap as you tried not to cry, allowing yourself to stare down at them. A tap on the glass in front of you made you look up. FP sat on the other side of the glass, phone in hand. You quickly grabbed the phone to your left.
“Y/N... what are you doing here? Its eight in the morning,” FP hadn’t taken a good look at you yet until now. Your hair was in disarray and your eyes were swollen from crying. His expression changed from playful curiosity to worry.
“FP, he...he was shot,” you choked, you hand covering your mouth to hold back a sob. FP had no idea what you were talking about. Was it Jug in the initiation? Was it Sweet Pea with the Ghoulies? He leaned in close to the glass.
“Baby girl, be a little specific, who was shot?” He whispered your nickname into the phone. You glanced up at him without sobbing.
“Fred, FP, Fred was shot and I don’t know what to do. Archie is at the hospital with Jug and the Coopers and Fred is in surgery, I don’t know what to do FP, I can’t lose him, I can’t support Archie, I need-“
“Y/N, slow down Princess,” your eyes locked through the glass. He set his hand against it, motioning for you to do the same. The glass was cool beneath your fingers. He gave you a serious look. “Calm down, Fred is strong, he’ll pull through. Stop thinking about what you can’t do and think about what you can. Your brother is a strong bastard, you know this.”
And I’ll use you as a focal point, so i don’t lose sight of what I want. And I’ve moved further than I thought I could, but I’ve missed you more than I thought I would.
“I need you FP, I need you outta this hell hole and here with me. I got that job at the Wyrm, but i miss you so damn much Jones,” the tears spilled down your cheeks quicker. The thought of losing your brother was bad enough, but not having FP there to help you through it was even worse. FP sighed balling his fist.
“I know Baby Girl. I feel so shitty not being able to be there with you,” FP dropped his head, clenching his jaw tightly. You gaze at him through your tears, seeing how torn he is from being in prison. His facial hair had grown out and his eyes were droopy, like he could fall asleep at any moment. You realized how much you missed touching his jaw with your hands and breathing in his scent of leather and smoke from spending his time in the Wyrm.
“FP... I love-“ “Don’t you say that,” he interrupted you. His eyes were teary and his hand was white knuckling the phone. “Don’t say you love me when I can’t say it back.”
And Ill use you as a warning sign, that if you talk enough sense then you’ll lose your mind
Your throat stung and your nose began to run. “Fine, I’ll come back when I know more about Fred,” you stood abruptly, the chair toppling to the floor. FP stared at you.
“Baby girl,” you ignored him, “Y/n! Y/n!” You heard him beating on the glass as you turned your back walking away with tears streaming down your cheeks. You got in you car slamming the door. Your throat burned from all the crying you had done. Throwing your head onto the steering wheel, you let out a frustrated scream.
Oh and I found love where it wasn’t supposed to be, right in front of me, talk some sense to me.
After sitting in the parking lot for thirty minutes you made your way into the hospital. In the waiting room was Jughead, Betty, Veronica, and the rest of the Cooper family. Jughead shot up when he saw you, pulling you to the side before the others could get to you.
“Where have you been?! Archie is going crazy and none of us can get to him,” Jughead whisper yelled at you. You sighed, pinching the bridge of your nose, there’s the headache you were waiting for.
“I had to go see someone, but he was of no help. Where is Archie?” Jug frowned, pointing the opposite hallway.
“He went to call his mom,” You nodded, “Don’t think I don’t know where you were Y/n.” Your eyebrows knitted together.
“I don’t know what you mean,” “Cut the crap Y/n, I know you went to see my dad.” Your eyes widened, you gripped his bicep, pulling him away from passerby’s.
“How do you know? We haven’t said a word to anyone,” you crossed your arms over your chest. Jughead rolled his eyes, mimicking your action.
“My dad has been happier since you came into town, he was never that nice. And plus I found your bra in his laundry basket, the one you were wearing when you came out of the bathroom and Archie and I were leaving for school.” You blushed at he mention of your favorite undergarment, a black lace number that was FP’s favorite also. “You should tell Archie and Mr.Andrews, really, I doubt its that big of a deal.”
“Im going to find my nephew and you mister,” you poked his chest, “are going to stay quiet about this until I tell them myself.” Jughead put his hands up in defense. You turned and went in search of Archie.
You found Archie sitting on a bench with his head in his hands. With a small sigh you sat next to him, placing your hand on his back rubbing soft circles.
“Hey kid, he’s tough alright, he’ll get through this and in turn so will we,” you said in a soft voice. Archie looked at you over his shoulder, his brown eyes shinning. He said nothing, but he sat up and wrapped himself around you tightly. You gasped at the sudden contact, the force almost knocking you over, nevertheless you held him, one arm rubbing his back and the other holding his head to your shoulder. He shook with every sob and gripped your shirt fiercely.
“I called my mom, she should be here within a day or so,” Archie said when he caught his breath again. You shook your head, “Look I get that you don’t like my mom, but you weren’t here and I need to talk to someone.”
“No, Arch, I understand she deserves to know either way,” you reply, stroking your nephew’s cheek. He leaned into your gentle touch.
“Where were you anyways?” Your stomach dropped, forgetting this part.
“I was where I wasn’t really supposed to be. I, well, went to see FP.” Archie pulled away slightly, giving you a confused look.
“Why’d you go see him?”
“He and I have been seeing each other for a little while now,” Archie didn’t budge, “as more than friends Archie.” Your head dropped not wanting to see the look on your nephews face. Archie sat in shock for a moment, trying to comprehend that his aunt had a boyfriend who was his best friends dad and his dads best friend, how confusing.
“Aunt Y/n, it’s okay,” he whispered grabbing your hand in his. You caught his eye, “It’s really okay. You needed someone just like I did, so you went to him.” You were shocked to say the least, you hadn’t expected him to be so accepting of the situation.
“Well you took that better than I thought, now all I have to worry about is your father” you chuckled, running a hand through your hair. Archie smiled, an all knowing smile that meant everything would be okay.
And I found love where it wasn’t supposed to be, right in front of me.

Jughead//One Last Goodbye
Request: reader is a Lodge and dating Jughead and Hiram finds out and is not happy.
part 2
“I’ll see you tomorrow.” You smiled at your boyfriend. He had dropped you off at the end of the street after your date together.
It wasn’t that you were ashamed of Jughead, you loved him with all your heart and more, it was that you were a Lodge, and you father didn’t really approve of Jughead. Or any boy for that matter. You saw how he was with Archie, when your sister told him that they were dating. He tried to kill him for a start. Multiple times. And you didn’t really want the same to happen to Jughead so you both decided it would be best to tell the least amount of people as possible. Veronica of course knew, she was your older sister (only by a year but she still held it over you) and she could tell when you were keeping stuff from her. This also meant that Archie knew, which of course meant Betty knew too. From there you tried to keep it contained as possible but that was more difficult than you had planned. You lived in a small town and people talked. So you came up with a plan that was foolproof. This plan included, Jughead dropping you off at the end of the street after you had hung out together, it also included Veronica covering for you, which you of course returned whenever she was doing something she shouldn’t be. At some point the plan had also included you/Jughead climbing out your window, however when you realized how far down it would be (this only occurred when you were hanging out of it) you decided to just sneak him in and out through the door on the rare occasions that he would be at yours. You would usually go and see him at his trailer, telling your parents that you were hanging out with Betty. So far it had gone well. You parents didn’t suspect anything and you and Jughead were happy.
“I love you.” He returned the smile, grabbing your waist and pulling you towards him. You squealed slightly at his sudden movements but he silenced you with a kiss. Your hands made their way to his hair and you pulled slightly, making him groan. “Stop it.” He mumbled against your lips and you smirked.
“I love you too.” You pulled away. “Now, I have to go otherwise my dad will start to get suspicious. He’ll have people out looking for me.” You pouted and he kissed your cheek making you blush.
“Text me?” He asked.
“Always.” You smiled and started to walk away. However he grabbed your hand and pulled you back to him.
“Juggy.” You squealed and he laughed.
“One last goodbye?”
“I suppose so.” You rolled your eyes teasingly and he kissed you. You pulled away and he sighed. “I’ll see you tomorrow.” You reassured him. “I told my dad me and Veronica were going shopping. I don’t know what she’s doing but I can imagine she’s not supposed to be doing it.” You giggled and he laughed.
“I’ll look forward to it.” He smiled and waved you off.
Closing the door to the Pembroke behind you, you smiled to yourself before acknowledging the new doorman. Walking towards your room, your phone buzzed and you smiled when you saw Jughead had text you.
Miss you already 💕
“What are you smiling at?” Veronica asked as she walked past you. She looked over your shoulder and smiled. “Cute.” She commented and you blushed. “Is he still treating you right?”
“Of course he is.” You replied.
“Good.” She nodded her head. “So details. Have you, you know yet?” She asked.
“Veronica!” You shrieked.
“What?!” She replied. “I wanna make sure you’re being safe. You’re my baby sister.”
“You’re gross.”
“Being safe? What with?” Your dad asked as he walked into the living room.
“Nothing!” You and Veronica replied quickly.
“Mija. Don’t lie to me.” He gave you both a warning look. “We don’t keep things from each other in this family.” He continued.
“Thats rich coming from you.” Veronica mumbled.
“Excuse me?” He asked and they glared at each other, Veronica was motioning you to go so you took a deep breath, and tried to walk away. However your phone buzzed again and your dad looked at you. “Who was that?” He asked.
“Just Betty.” You replied quickly. Veronica was looking at you panicked.
“You haven’t looked at who it is, how can you possibly know its her?”
“We were already texting.” You said.
“You’ve just come back from hers.” He replied.
“We’re teenagers. We never run out of things to say.” You continued to lie and he raised an eyebrow.
“What are you talking about? Anything interesting?”
“Not much. Just homework. She asked me for help on a question.” You shrugged and he nodded his head.
“Maybe I can help. Let me see.”
“Its okay.” You hugged your phone to your chest. He looked at you confused.
“Mija. Let me see your phone.” He held his hand out.
“Its just Betty. She texts me about some pretty private things.” You argued and Veronica nodded beside you. Your mom was stood behind him, watching what was happening.
“I don’t believe you. So let me look.”
“No.” You continued to argue.
“While you live under this house, you will abide by my rules. Let me see your phone. Now!” His voice boomed through the house and you and Veronica jumped. You sighed before handing your phone to him.
Just wanted to say tonight was great. I can’t wait to see you tomorrow. I love you 💕💕
He read the text and looked at you, an angry expression taking over. Veronica grabbed your hand.
“Hiram?” Your mom asked and started to move towards him, but he held his hand up and she stopped.
“How long has this been going on?” He asked and you remained silent, looking at the floor. “Answer me Y/n!”
“7 months.” You mumbled.
“You’ve been dating Jones for 7 months and you haven’t told anyone.”
“Actually she told-” Veronica started but you quickly interrupted her.
“No. No one knows.” You mumbled.
“Why didn’t you tell anyone?” Your mom asked and you sighed.
“Are you really that surprised after what happened with Veronica and Archie. I’m sorry but I don’t want my boyfriend dead.” You explained.
“Well. I hope you had fun, but its over. I’m not having my daughter date a serpent. Especially the leader of them.” He said sternly.
“Come on!” You and Veronica started but he shushed you.
“Hiram. Don’t you think you’re being a bit harsh.” Your mom asked.
“No. Do you really want our daughter associated with a gang?”
“Its better than being associated with this family!” You shouted and snatched your phone out of his hands before storming away.
“Y/n Lodge. Come back now!” Your dad called after you. Veronica stared at you shocked, a slight smile on her face, and your mom was trying to conceal a smile. “Y/n!” He shouted again but you continued to walk away. You walked until you were stood outside of Jughead’s trailer. Taking a deep breath you knocked on the door, a few seconds went by until a groggy FP answered the door.
“Sorry Mr Jones. Did I wake you?” You asked guiltily.
“No, its fine.” He shook his head. “Shouldn’t you be at home?”
“Long story.” You sighed and he nodded, knowing full well what your father was like. “Is Jughead in?” You asked and he nodded.
“In his room. You know where it is.” He let you in and you thanked him before walking towards Jughead’s room. You knocked on the door and waited until someone answered.
“Yeah?” Jughead called and you opened the door. “Y/n? What are you doing here?” He asked confused and sat up in bed.
“My dad found out about us.” You sighed and sat beside him.
“How?” He asked and pulled you in a tight hug.
“He read our texts.”
“Can he do that?”
“He’s Hiram Lodge. He can do whatever the hell he wants.” You sighed and he hugged you tighter.
“Its okay. Everything will be okay, I promise.” He reassured you.
“I wish I could believe that.”
“What do you mean?” He asked confused.
“Well, you saw what happened when he wanted Archie away from Veronica, I don’t want that to happen to you.” You started.
“Right? What are you saying?”
“I don’t want to do this. You have no idea how much I don’t want to do this but I think we should end this here. Before it gets messy.”
“But-”
“I’m sorry Jughead. I love you, but I love you too much to let him hurt you.” You cried and he wiped your tears away.
“No, no. Don’t cry. We can work something out.” He argued, tears falling from his own eyes.
“How well did that go with Archie? He had to leave Riverdale. I would rather see you everyday and not be with you, then not see you and be with you.”
“You’re right.” He sighed and leaned his forehead against yours. His hands cupping your face.
“Y/n Lodge. I love you more than life itself. And if I have to, I will spend the rest of my life waiting for you.” He promised and kissed the tip of your nose.
“Jughead Jones. I love you too. And I’m sorry about my dad.”
“Its okay.” He said with a sad smile making you cry harder. You climbed into bed beside him and cuddled into his side. “Why don’t you stay tonight?” He suggested. “One last goodbye?”

Chapter 11 – New Love & Old Love.
Angel was in a good mood the play has been put on a break because of half the cast and crew mainly the serpents were helping Jughead with his protest at south side school. Her boyfriend included, so she decides she play the supporting girlfriend teasing him and co with food and then going to Toni to have a look over their final photo they are sending Tommy for the charity show which is only a few weeks away.
Tommy had guilted her into singing as well because she ran away and made him sick with worry, so she owes him one. Angel had just finished getting ready, giving her a quick once over and made her way downstairs. Archie was at the door on his way out himself.
He smiled when he saw her, “Going to mess with Jughead and Sweet Pea?”
She laughs and just resorts back “Going to study with Veronica?” She used air quotes when she said study, knowing there wouldn’t be any studying going on with them two. Archie laughs, he was going to resort back, but their mom shouts them from the Livingroom.
“Archie, Angelica can you come in here please your father and I would like to speak with you.”
The twin look at each other panicked, Angel mouths to him “What have you done?” Archie shake his head no and mouths back “What about you?” she shakes her head, shrugging and makes her way into the Livingroom to see both her parents sitting on the chair, her dad looked uncomfortable at whatever their mom had planned to speak to them about.
Mary smiles and motions to chairs in front of them, “Why don’t you have a seat.”
Both cautiously sat down looking at each other and then their parents, Angel had to ask “Are we in trouble or something?” Mary laughs “No, Angel you’re not in trouble, it just we don’t talk much, so what are you both up to today?”
Still feeling suspicious as to where this conversation was going Angel was the first to answer “I’m going to see Jug and Sweets at the school to see how the protest is going, then I’m going to work on Tommy project with Toni.” Her parent nod and look at Archie, who shrugs and says “I’m going to Veronica to study for our English exam.”
“Studying?” Fred asked raising an eyebrow at his son, Archie smiles and nods back. Angel was fighting back a laugh, hiding her face, so their parents don’t see her smile, Mary clears her throat.
“Well I’m glad you’re both being honest with us, but now you’re older and both in a somewhat serious relationship…”
Angel grabs Archie hand, he squeezes her back, both with a panicked look on their face.
“Oh my god, she isn’t?” Archie said.
“Oh my god, I think she is, she going there,” Angel said back.
“She wouldn’t, would she, we might be jumping to conclusions?”
“No, Arch, I don’t think we are.”
Fred smile, he loved the little duo they did, it made you believe they were indeed twins when they finished each other sentences. Mary just rolled her eyes at her children, they can be so immature at times.
“Pack it in, the pair of you, I’m trying to have an adult conversation with you.”
Angel laugh and smiles at her, “Mom I love you, but you’re a bit late for the sex talk.”
The boys cringe which made the girl roll their eyes, Mary carry on “I know sweetie, but your father and I just want to make sure you’re both being safe, we don’t want…”
“An unwanted pregnancy,” Angel answered, the room went quiet, she scolded herself it just came out, she keeps forgetting it’s still early days with her family. She let out a sigh, standing up and smile at her parents, “Sweet Pea at the moment is chained to a fence so we won’t be doing anything for a while but don’t worry we’re always careful. I’m on the pill, dad stops cringing mom started this, and I’m just trying to be honest.”
He parents nodded, it was silence for a moment, Angel coughs “Erm can I go now and I’ll be staying at Toni tonight as well.” Fred smiles and nods “Of course princess, stay safe, and we see you tomorrow.” She smiles, walks around the table and kisses her parents on the cheek, “Love you both.”
“We love you too,” Mary said back, with that Angel walks out of the house and hoping this was the last awkward family conversation for the next year.
(At Southside School)
“Hey, little one, what are you doing here?” FP asked as he saw her get out of the car, she smiles and holds up Pops takeout bag. “I thought you might be hungry.”
“You’re the devil incarnated,” Jughead stated, with his usual scowl, Angel gives him her most innocent smile. “I don’t know what you mean, I’m here to be a supporting friend and girlfriend, and I just happened to be hungry, so I went to Pops for something to eat.”
FP laughed, knowing she was lying but didn’t say anything, Fangs was looking at the bag in her hand practically drooling “Did you get us anything?” Angel giggled, taking the burgers out the bag handing one to FP and shakes her head “No Pretty Boy, you’re on a hunger strike right, fight the power!”
Fangs let out a groan, which made her laugh more, she turns her attention to Sweet Pea looking him up and down, biting her lip, Angel not going to lie he looked good in chains. She slowly makes her way up till she met his eyes, he tilted his head and raised an eyebrow at her.
Angel smirks and shrugs, “I just thought once this is over maybe you can keep those chains?” Sweet Pea smirk back and winks “Maybe I can?”
“Eww, you both make me sick.” Fangs said in disgust, FP and Jughead nod in agreement. Sweets wink at her, and she giggles before she could tell Fangs to shut up, Sheriff Keller come over.
“Hey Angel, I’m glad your back and safe, but I need to ask you a few questions.”
Angel stood up confused, “Erm sure Sheriff, have I done something wrong?”
He smiles and shakes his head, “No Angel, don’t worry. It just have you heard about the car we found in the lake.”
Angel still a little confused about where the conversation was heading “Yeah, I don’t know how I can help?”
“The CI’s have been able to give us a timeline of when it was pushed in the lake, and according to Kevin you were in woods by the lake taking pictures, and I was wondering if you saw anything out of the ordinary?”
Angel tried to think back it was a while ago and a lot had happened since then, “I can’t remember to be honest Sheriff, but I might have caught something on my camera I could go through them and give you any I think will help.”
He smiles at her and gives her a quick hug “You a good kid, Angel, thank you, nip to the station if you find anything ok. Also, you need to come over for dinner soon it’s been too long.”
She pulls back and smiles at him “Of course Mr. Keller.”
She turns back to the group, her smile turns to a frown when she sees FP’s and Jughead faces, Jugs had gone white. What the hell is wrong with them?
“Jughead, you ok?”
FP was the first to recover, “Yeah sweetness, you know Jug, and this is the longest he’s ever gone without a burger or any food to be fair, he didn’t think this hunger strike out properly.”
He smiles at her but he knew deep down Angel would still be suspicious but she let it go she learnt years ago, the Jones boys weren’t ordinary. She shrugs accepting this was the only explanation she was going to get, Angel turns back to Sweet Pea, walking up to him and give him a quick kiss, after a few minutes she pulls away and smiles at him.
“Try not to get yourself arrested Serpent boy.”
Sweets smirk back “I can’t promise anything, but I try for you, Princess.”
She laughs and begins to walk back to her car “Have fun boys, see you later.”
They watch her drive off, FP looked at Jughead who was still pale “Calm down Jug, you got that project with her for the play just say its been a while and ask her if you can see her pictures, let stay level-headed about this.”
Jughead raises her eyebrow at him “You make it seem easy, she been avoiding me since she came back, we don’t spend time together unless we’re with everyone else.”
FP raise an eyebrow at the slight sadness in his son's voice, when he talks about Angel. “Jug is there another problem, I should know about.”
Jughead avoids his dad’s eyes and shrugs “I just miss our relationship before all this, we were so close, and now it’s awkward, and I just want us to be us again.”
FP knew there was something else but he didn’t want to push his son, he let out a sigh and place a hand on his shoulder. “Give it time boii, that all I can say.”
Jughead nods agree but still thinking how much time will it take.
(At Toni trailer)
Toni had all her picture on the kitchen table, Angel smiles, she was right from the start Toni was incredibly talented, she picks a photo up of Cheryl, turning to Toni and raise an eyebrow at her.
“Who would have thought Cheryl Blossom falling in love with a Southside Serpent.”
Toni laughed “Remember what I told you all those months ago, life works in mysterious ways. Who would have thought the Northside Princess Angelica Andrews would fall head over heels for Southside Serpent Sweet Pea.”
Angel laugh at her comment, turning back to the table and picking up her favorite picture of Sweet Pea. She smiles slowly stroking his face, “I would never have thought that was possible like I told you months ago I wasn’t looking for love.”
Toni smile, she saw how happy the pair of them made each other, but there was a giant blue elephant in the room, who happens to wears a beanie.
“I know you don’t like talking about this but have both of you spoken about your old feeling for Jughead?”
Angel let out a sigh, placing the picture back on the table and turning to Toni giving her a sad smile. “No I know it bad but I think we’re both avoiding that conversation, it going so good and I don’t want to ruin it because let be honest there no solution I can’t change who I use to have a feeling for. Also, Jughead is one of my oldest friends I can’t imagine my life without him, but I can’t imagine my life without Sweet Pea.”
Toni leans her head on Angel's shoulder, rubbing her upper arm trying to comfort her a little. “I know Angel but remember this I’ve known Sweet Pea my entire life, and I’ve never seen him look at a person the way he looks at you. He’s mad for you girl so when it does come to a head remember no matter what he says he loves you.”
Angel smiles, leaning her head against Toni and place her hand over hers. “Thank you Pinkie, I hate growing up.” They laugh and pull away from each other, Toni still smile thought it better to change the subject.
“Less about our relationships, have you decide what song you be singing at this event?”
Angel smirk and looks back at Sweet Pea picture, “Yeah I’ve got a few ideas, and I hope people will like it.”
Toni smirk and raise an eyebrow at her wondering what Angel was thinking about doing. “I’m sure people will love anything you sing, you're an extremely talented person, we’re lucky to have you.”
Angel smile grew “Oh believe me Pinkie, I’m the lucky one.”
(A weeks later)
Well to say the friendships in Riverdale have strained and tested the last week would be the biggest understatement of the year. Angel couldn’t keep up with what was going on and who was mad at who anymore but the play was back on and like it or not everyone had to work together. Only out of fear at what Kevin would do if they ruined his play.
Angel was waiting for Jughead in the Black & Gold, she was so nervous she avoids this all week, but Kevin informed her not so nicely that she needs to grow up and find a way to work with Jug or he will disown her as his best friend.
“Sorry for keeping you waiting.”
Angel looked up from her camera to see Jughead walking in, she smiles put her camera down. “No, it ok, I’ve only been here five minutes myself, because I was watching Sweets and Reggie play basketball and got distracted.”
Jughead smile at her “How was trying to cheer for both of them?”
She laughs, “Not easy but they now know better to make me chose between my husband and boyfriend.”
Jug laugh and sits down next to her, “Well anyone would be stupid to go up against you.” She smiles, they look at each other for a moment, god this was awkward, but their friends were sure the more time they spent together, the easier this would get.
After five minutes, Angel chose to look away cough a little to cover up the awkwardness “Maybe we should get started.”
Jughead nods and takes his camera out his bag “Yeah I think that be a good idea.”
(An hour later)
They had nearly finished sorting out what so far they will defiantly add to the final copy of the video and the photo book Kevin had asked Angel to make for the play for the cast and family.
“I think we make a good team.” Jughead looked up smiling at her, she looks away smiling and bite’s her lip “Yeah but nothing compared to you and Betty.”
He nods “Yeah she one of a kind.”
Angel laughed, “Yeah that an understatement but I’m being honest I think your good for each other and Kevin told me you'd got a new mystery someone threating Cheryl?”
Jughead raises an eyebrow “Yeah but it not easy Cheryl has a lot of enemy’s.”
Angel scoffs “Yeah she does but what do to expect when you torture half the school, but she doesn’t deserve this kind of treatment.”
Jughead nod in agreement and then it was silent again for a few minutes, Angel closes her eyes and lets out a sigh. Maybe this was enough today they’ve talked a lot more today than they have since she came back, you know one day at a time.
“Well I think we made a good start, but I promised to meet Sweet Pea, and I don’t want to be late.”
Angel got up to leave, packing her stuff back into her bag and throwing it over her shoulder, but before she walks out the door, Jughead says something that makes her stop in her tracks.
“It wasn’t unrequited.”
She felt her heart skip a beat, Angel knew what he was talking about but need to make sure she heard him right.
“What did you just say?”
Jughead closes his eyes, take a deep breath and opens his eye to look at her, he’s been wanting to say this since she came home.
“Your love for me wasn’t unrequited, remember before you went to New York, I asked you to meet me at Pops.”
She nods her head, afraid of her voice. “Yeah, but you had to cancel because your mom left and your dad went off the wagon hard.”
Jughead nodded and carried on “I wanted to tell you before you went to New York and found a guy better than me. That I’ve been in love with you since the second year of middle school when you punched Chuck for calling me a weirdo.”
Against her better judgment, she laughs at the memory. Jughead takes this as a good sign, “After you left I felt angry at myself for how that night turned out, but with time I thought maybe it was fate. You know I fell in love with Betty, and you were a big hit in New York.”
Angel just looked at him, confused where this conversation was heading.
“However when it came out what Nick did for you, I just kept thinking this wouldn’t have happened if I had talked to you that day if I had told you about my feelings. Angel you would have never gone to that party.”
Angel let out a shaky breath and leans over to grab his hand. He didn't look at her now.
“Juggie look at me please.” He takes a deep breath and looks up at her, he had a blank face, but she could always tell what Jughead was feeling through his eye, they always gave him away.
“Jug listens to me, you need to stop blaming yourself, and it wasn’t your fault. We can’t change the past and I wouldn’t because it lead me to Sweet Pea but thanks you now I feel a little less awkward.”
Jughead squeezes her hand back, “Anytime Angel, I’m glad we got this out in the open.”
She smiles at him, next minutes there was a knock on the door. They both turned to see Sweet Pea standing there with an unreadable look on his face, staring at their entwined hands. Angel moves her hand away, Sweet Pea now looked up at her face she could tell he was trying hard to hide the anger building up inside of him.
“I thought I would come and pick you up, you ready Princess?”
He sounded sweet, but she knew where this was leading. Well, its time to face the music “Yeah.” Angel turned to smile at Jughead “See you tomorrow Jug.” Walking over to Sweet Pea who grab her hand as soon as she got close enough and stormed out of the room only slowing down when they got to his bike.
He turned to hand her the helmet, “Phone your dad and tell him you won’t be home tonight, tell him you’re staying at Toni or something.”
Angel take out her phone and texts her dad. Afterward, she climbs on the back of his bike wrapping her hand around his waist. As he takes off, she couldn’t help but think this was going to be a very long night.

The Christmas Letters - BH one-shot
Tumblr media
Merry Christmas, one and all, and particularly to my Bughead Secret Santa @rubyventure!
This is a super fluffy holiday one-shot, one that I absolutely loved writing, and hopefully one that you (and everyone else) will enjoy.
Summary: Jughead hated Christmas traditions. Until he created his own.
Includes: Lots of literary references (including Harry Potter! That one was especially for you, @rubyventure!), Jughead’s Underwood typewriter, and a super sweet surprise at the end.
Fic after the cut. Happy reading!
Jughead Jones hated Christmas traditions. Every single one of them. The caroling, the mistletoe, the eggnog, the trimming of the tree, and especially all the shitty movie reruns (he tried banning all Christmas films at the Twilight during his time there, but Riverdale nearly rioted and Mayor McCoy had to step in).
He liked playing it off as a Grinch-like aversion to anything bright or merry, but the truth was that Jughead was wary of most traditions. Because what else was tradition other than another accepted standard that he and his family would fail to live up to?
The Joneses were a mess most of the time, but they were particularly terrible at Christmas. Dinner was always a sad affair of whatever his mom could cobble together from the pantry, gifts were off the table because they were always broke, and his dad would always drink himself to a stupor. So he hated the whole thing, but he repressed his sad childhood story, and passed off his hatred of the season as a belief that it was nothing more than a cheap excuse for consumerism and manufactured joy.
But one year, that all changed.
Maybe it was the fact that everything he once held to be true was coming apart at the seams - Riverdale, his family, his relationship with Betty - and he wanted something consistent and hopeful to hold on to. Or maybe it was the vintage Underwood that now sat proudly at his desk, reminding him of his love of words and literature. Either way, that year, when the Black Hood terrorised Riverdale, he caved in: he unwittingly created his own Christmas traditions.
It started when he tried to write again. On Christmas Day, Jughead eagerly sat in front of his new typewriter and rolled in a blank sheet of paper, waiting for inspiration to strike. But it was no use. He’d been so out of touch with his novel for so long that he couldn’t even remember the last thing he wrote for it.
There was an old adage for writers that Jughead liked repeating to himself: write what you know. It was the reason why he wrote about Riverdale to begin with. But lately, he had been so isolated from that Riverdale - the Northside he had grown up with - that writing it seemed like a far-fetched idea.
What did he know now? What could he write about?
The Serpents? Out of the question.
His family? Too miserable.
As snow fell outside, Jughead’s fingers hovered over the typewriter keys, eager to write something, anything. What’s the story that I want to tell, the one that’s right under my skin?
Before he knew it, he was typing out a letter to Betty Cooper.
My beloved,
If you were here right now, there’s no doubt in my mind that you’d tell me how I’ve misappropriated that word - “beloved” - in the card that accompanied your Christmas present. It’s obviously a beautiful word on its own, but I could almost hear you in my ear, saying that I’ve missed the point, because the word is used in a tragic sense in Toni Morrison’s novel.
I want you to know that I totally get that, and perhaps - in this letter that will probably never see the light of day - I could take the opportunity to explain myself.
I never actually finished the book. It came to me while we were in the middle of being broken up. I knew it was one of your favourites, and one day I came across it in the library. Because I was a sucker for pain, I decided to read it, to try and conjure up a shadow of you to comfort myself.
…which is essentially what Sethe does in the book, right? She meets this young woman, Beloved, and suddenly decides that it’s the daughter that she murdered as a 2-year-old, and spoils and indulges her. She does this because she feels guilty, and also because she misses her.
I don’t know how the story ends, but I know this: that book was a poor substitute for you. Maybe that’s why I couldn’t finish it. Because I realised that I wanted the real Betty Cooper, not just her favourite book.
You are my own beloved - the ghost that I will keep chasing and seeing everywhere until you are mine again.
Merry Christmas. Although I haven’t said this in a while, it still holds true: I love you.
Jug.
And so began two Christmas traditions for Jughead.
Every year, come holiday season, he would do two things: on Christmas Eve, he would give Betty a book as a Christmas present. Not just any book, but something that reflected her, or the way that he felt about her. Then, on Christmas Day, he would use his typewriter to write her a letter - one that she would never read - and place it in a box he kept hidden in his room.
The books were easy to explain. Growing up, he and Betty had always loved reading. It was a world of their own that excluded Archie, who found reading difficult and uninteresting. But Jughead’s act of giving her books was more than that: it was a way for him to express how he felt about her through the words of others, when he found his own inadequate.
Which explains the letters.
The letters were Jughead’s own postscript, his crib notes for why he had chosen each book and what it represented of his feelings for Betty. She didn’t know about them, and he imagined that he’d never show her. They were more for his benefit. Through them, he could make sense of how he felt for her, and where their relationship stood during each particular Christmas.
Toni Morrison’s Beloved, given during that first, miserable Christmas, was telling: he missed her, and he had nothing more than the echoes of her to live off.
The following Christmas was better: they were reconciled and thriving after a tumultuous year of working their way back from the fallout of the Black Hood, and he gifted her with his own worn copy of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Jughead had fond memories of him and Betty sitting quietly in his old treehouse, reading the Harry Potter series together while Archie played with all the other kids in the neighbourhood. At age 12, they raced each other to the end of the series, and debated endlessly about that last sentence (Betty liked it; Jughead thought it was silly and a wasted opportunity).
On Christmas Day that year, he rolled a piece of paper into the Underwood and wrote:
Horcruxes are made out to be this awful, terrible thing in the novel, but in real life, are we not always giving our souls away to different things and different people? This year, I’ve felt mine being stitched back together after all the fracturing that happened last year. And while small pieces of it remain unaccounted for, I can say this wholeheartedly today: so much of it belongs to you, Betty Cooper.
In the Christmas before they went off to college, he gave her a copy of Homer’s Odyssey. Betty was off to Columbia, while he had been accepted to Amherst. Within five minutes of receiving his letter in the mail, he had already mapped out the distance between the two colleges, and calculated the time that it would take for him to drive up to New York during the weekends. They had dreamt of going to college together, but it was not meant to be. That being said, a mere 4-hour drive between Boston and New York on the weekends was the next best thing, and they spent many of their Saturdays over the next four years driving between the two campuses and spending nights at each other’s dorm rooms.
Betty loved his present, saying that Homer’s Odyssey was a quintessential college reading experience. While he agreed with her, that wasn’t the reason he got her the book that year.
In his letter, he wrote, You would think that Odysseus’ story would centre on his heroic role in the Trojan War, in the Iliad, but no: we remember him instead for The Odyssey, for his journey home. For all the hype that Amherst has for me, with my old man proud as punch that I’d be the first in the family to attend college, all I can think of right now is that four-hour drive to New York, climbing the steps up to your dorm room, and knocking on your door. College is my Trojan War, but the true quest for me is the journey home to you.
And on and on it continued, every single year. Jack Kerouac’s On The Road, right before they embarked on an epic road trip to Austin for SXSW. Annie Proulx’s The Shipping News the year that she interned for The New York Times. Paulo Coelho’s The Alchemist when she was struggling with her studies and contemplating switching majors.
Each one was accompanied with a letter that she never saw, carefully typed on Christmas Day and tucked away into the secret box in his room. After he wrote each one, he always briefly contemplated sending them all to her. But to do so would be to break tradition, and if he was to do that, he decided that it would have to be for a very special reason.
“I don’t get a book this year?”
Jughead was at the Coopers’ House on Christmas Eve, dropping off presents for the family. Alice and Hal had slowly accepted him into the fold over the past ten years, and this year, he felt more welcome than ever to their home. Betty was pouting at the door as she was seeing him off.
“I’m sorry, love,” Jughead said, kissing her on the temple. “Stupid Amazon couldn’t deliver it on time. Apparently it’s in demand.”
Betty eyed him curiously. “A book that’s in demand this time of year? So… either a new release or some sort of Christmas tale.” She looked triumphant.
“Oh, come on, don’t try to guess. You’ll probably end up figuring it out.”
“Alright then,” she said, tiptoeing to put her arms around his neck. “You’ll be okay to drive home? The roads are a bit icy.”
“Yeah, I’ll be fine,” he leaned down to kiss her, then remembered something. “By the way, did you get everything in to Trish for that Lilith end-of-year review?” Betty had just become the news editor for Lilith, an alternative online news and culture website aimed towards young women, and she was thriving, making Jughead proud. She deserved it.
“Ugh. Yes. Believe me, if I see another listicle in this lifetime, I might throw it all in and just run the Riverdale Register.” Jughead chuckled at that. “What about you? Did you have to run anything like that for Slate?”
“No, thank god,” he said. “And somehow, I don’t think anyone wants to see a Top Ten True Crimes list.”
She laughed. “You never know.”
“That’s true,” he said. “I mean, you and I would read it.”
“Yes, but that’s because we grew up in this town.” They both laughed at that. Among many things, Riverdale had gifted them with a macabre sense of humour.
“Alright,” he said. “I better get going. I’ll see you at lunch at ours tomorrow?”
“Yes. Also, you’re 100% sure that Jellybean would like the scarf?”
“Absolutely.” He smiled and gave her a last kiss. “Love you.”
“Love you, Jug.”
He walked down to his car and got in, waving at Betty as he drove off. As soon as he turned a corner, he pulled over and called Archie.
“Jug.”
“Hey, Arch. Coast clear?”
“Yep. She just went in. You’re good to go.”
At five minutes to midnight, right before Christmas Day, Jughead stood outside Betty’s window.
Snow was starting to fall. He tucked Betty’s Christmas present into his jacket to try and protect it from damage - the one he got her in lieu of a book that year. It was a book, technically, but not quite yet. It was yet to be published.
Jughead couldn’t help it: he had to look at the manuscript cover again. Just this once. Just so he could believe that this was actually happening.
“Of Bulldogs, Serpents and Vixens. A novel by Jughead Jones.”
After so many years of trying (and failing) to pick up from where he left off with his novel, Jughead had spent the past six months smashing it out on his typewriter like a man possessed by the Muses. His Slate editor, Rick, was positively aghast that he was insisting on the typewritten manuscript (“The fact that there is no soft copy of this is giving me hives, Jughead. HIVES!”), but he was firm: the novel would be written on the Underwood, or not at all.
He hadn’t told Betty about the novel. When he started working on it again, the words flowed too fast that he knew that stopping and showing her would only disrupt his momentum. And in her ignorance, he sensed an opportunity.
Jughead looked down at his watch. Two minutes to go.
He was excited to give Betty his manuscript, but it was only one out of the three presents he was planning to give her that night. As nerve-wracking as it was to give her the manuscript, he was actually more nervous about his second gift. Looking up at her window, he saw it propped up on the seat, wrapped with a large red bow.
He had bribed Polly’s twins (with an obscene amount of money - they were crafty Blossoms, after all) to take his box of Christmas letters into Betty’s room after she fell asleep, and to place it neatly on her window seat - the very same one he had stepped onto all those years ago, when he first kissed her.  Before handing it over, he made sure that the letters were in the correct order - chronological, with the newest one at the bottom of the pile. He wanted her to read that one last.
He had the letter typed for weeks now, as soon as he had finished the first draft of his manuscript. Unlike the other Christmas letters, which usually took him upwards of an hour to write, this one was written quickly, as if the words were in him all along.
Betty,
This is the gift I wanted to give you this year – the manuscript for my novel, the story I’d been writing since our teens.
It’s the story of our town - or, at least, it started out that way. In the past few months, as each chapter poured out of me as quickly as the rapids of the Sweetwater current, I realised that the story of Riverdale as I saw it was actually OUR story. Of our childhood, of the tenuous beginnings of our relationship, of the rollercoaster it endured, and of how we were brought back together by the sheer force of our love for one another.
I’ve given you a book each Christmas because I felt as though my words were not enough to express how much I felt for you. But that all changed this year as I gained the inspiration to commit this all to paper, using the typewriter that YOU gave me.
Which is a beautiful metaphor, don’t you think? It is YOU who gives me the words, who inspires me to write, to create.
This won’t be your last book from me. Tradition demands that I continue to give you one every Christmas. But this is, I believe, the most important one.
This is me asking you to come with me on a new journey, to write a new chapter in our lives together.
To fill the next pages of this book. With new memories, new stories, perhaps even new characters.
With more of us.
He looked up again at the window.
It really was the perfect spot - symbolic, and practical. His heart started beating faster when he saw the light switch on. The twins were probably bouncing on their aunt’s bed now, screaming that it was Christmas, asking her to open the present on her window seat.
He looked down at his phone. Right on cue, a message came through from Archie. Lights are ready to come on, when you’re ready.
Jughead inhaled sharply, the cold air invigorating him with courage. Hopefully, while sitting there, as she read that final letter, she could see him outside, surrounded by the fairy lights he had set up earlier in the week.
Kneeling in the snow. Holding his third present - the small box inside his jacket pocket.
Asking her to marry him.

So Stupid
Imagine Request for Anonymous
Word Count: 1820
A//N: I’m so sorry it has taken me so long to post again but I’m just getting back into a routine because of work and I’ve been ill this week. I hope that you enjoy this imagine.
You and Sweet Pea had been best friends for a couple of years, which seemed very strange to everyone because you were from the Northside and he was from the Southside so it baffled your friends as to how you two even met let alone became friends.  You had met Sweet Pea when you ran away from home one night after yet another argument with your parents, finally having enough of them you just left with no idea were to go. You could have gone to Betty’s or Archie’s but you knew that their parents would take you home straight away to sort things out so this left you no other option but just to walk the streets. After a while you realised you had walked quite far and ended up lost. You had never been on this side of Riverdale which happened to be the Southside. That’s were you had met Sweet Pea, he just happened to be walking past you whilst you were sat down, crying.
“Lost by any chance?” He asks you.
“Is it that obvious?” You say, wiping your eyes dry
“Just a bit. Listen Princess, you don't want to hanging around here especially as you are from the Northside.
"How do you know I'm from the Northside?"
"I know everyone from this side and I've never seen you around so I know you aren't from him. I can help you get home."
He holds his hand out and you look at it for a minute before finally putting your hand in his. He helps you off the floor before introducing himself.
"I'm Sweet Pea." He says.
"Nice to meet you Sweet Pea. I'm Y/N." You smile.
After helping you find your way back home, he took your number, promising to keep in touch and he kept that promise as two years later you were inseparable, the only thing that kept the two of you apart was school but that was all about to change as Southside High School had been closed which meant all the students from there would be coming to Riverdale High and you were extremely happy about this because it meant that you got to spend more time with your best friend.
The weekend went by rather quickly and Monday morning was soon upon you. As you were getting ready for school, you heard the familiar sound of Sweet Pea's motorcycle. Quickly grabbing your bag, you ran outside to meet him.
"Well hello there. Fancy seeing you here on this amazing day." You smile.
"Someone is very cheerful this morning."
"I get to go to school with my best friend nothing is going to ruin this day even with your grumpy attitude."
"You love my grumpy attitude Princess. Now hop on I don't want to make you late for school or people will think you've come over to the dark side." Sweet Pea says.
You get on the back of his motorcycle, putting on your helmet and holding on to him. The truth was you did love Sweet Pea's grumpy because you loved to make him smile which was most of the time even when he was trying to act all serious. You pushed your feelings aside for him because you knew that there was no chance that Sweet Pea would harbour the same feelings for you, so you would keep denying it to yourself and everyone else around you that you didn't have feelings for Sweet Pea.
When you arrived at the school you noticed that there were a few people looking at you, ignoring them you lead Sweet Pea inside of Riverdale High where you were greeted by Veronica.
"Hey Y/N and this must be Sweet Pea. Nice to meet you."
You looked at Sweet Pea who hadn't really replied but he had this look on his face that you hadn't seen before, you quickly nudge him in the ribs before he can make a fool of himself.
"Hi." He mumbles.
"So since you are new to the school I was wondering would you like a tour of the school? Veronica ask.
"Its fine V I can show Sweet Pea round the school." You say.
"Oh it's no trouble Y/N I'm sure you have something else to do. Come on Sweets."
Before Sweet Pea can say anything she takes him by the arm and drags him away from you, he doesn't even glance back or protest to you, he just lets Veronica take him with her. Great you thought to yourself, you had been so excited about your best friend coming to the same school as you but know it looks like it wasn't such a good idea after all. As the weeks go on you hardly get anytime to speak to Sweet Pea alone as wherever he was Veronica was hanging off his arm and it was starting to annoy you. You had never seen this side to Sweet Pea before, he was always loyal to those who he cared about but then all of a sudden he'd ditched you as soon as Veronica had batted her eyelashes at him. Sweet Pea had stopped picking you up of a morning and taking you home, the texts and calls you use to share were non existence and it killed you inside but you didn't say anything as you didn't want to admit the feelings that you had for him were in fact real and unfortunately it had taken you this long to admit it yourself and it was too late because you had found out from Jughead that Sweet Pea and Veronica were now an item. You were currently standing next to your locker, pretending to look occupied when Betty came and stood next to you.
"So V and SP. Who would have thought that would happen." Betty says.
You don't say anything, it still hurt you inside that your best friend had ditched you for a girl he hardly knew a few weeks ago.
"Hello, earth to Y/N." Betty waves her hand in your face.
"Sorry B I was in a world of my own. What did you say?"
"You miss him don't you?"
"Who?" You ask.
"Don't play dumb with me Y/N. We've been friends for a very long time and I know when something is wrong, so please talk to me."
"I hate him B. What did I do wrong for him to just ditch me like that?"
"You didn't do anything wrong and don't you get thinking that. Why don't we go to Pop's after school so that we can have a proper talk."
You nod and thank Betty for being there for you. The rest of day seemed to drag, you couldn't wait to finish school so that you could finally talk to Betty and get things off your chest. You had managed to go the whole day without seeing Sweet Pea and Veronica stuck to each others face which just made you want to puke. The final bell rang, you gathered your things and went to your lock where Betty was already waiting for you. After putting your things away the two of you make your way to Pop's. When you enter Pop's, straight away you see Sweet Pea sitting in a booth on his own. He's probably waiting for Veronica, you thought to yourself but you were wrong. You had been at Pop's for at least an hour and there was no sign of Veronica.
"Why don't you go and say something to him Y/N?"
"I don't know Betty. I have no idea what to say to him anymore." You sigh.
"Yes you do so go over there and tell him everything that you have just told me."
Knowing that this was probably the only chance that you were going to get him alone, you make your way over to him.
"May I sit down?"
Sweet Pea looks at you and nods. You slide yourself into the seat opposite him. You notice there is something different about him, he wasn't his normal self and that worried you. Not wanting to sit in silence you decide to break it.
"I thought that Veronica would be meeting you here." You say.
"That's very unlikely seeing as we aren't together anymore." He tells you.
"Oh I'm sorry Pea."
"Don't be I'm the one who ended things." He says finally looking at you.
"I don't understand, you guys seemed happy."
He doesn't say anything, realising it was now or never your finally ask him the question that you've been dying to ask for weeks.
Why did you ditch me Pea?" You ask.
"I didn't mean to Y/N, that was never my intention please believe me when I say this but when you have feelings for someone who doesn't return them its hard so when Veronica showed me that attention I thought it was for the best that I went with her but I was wrong because whenever  I did see you I couldn't shake those feelings away which is why I ended the relationship with her because I just didn't feel the same."
You don't say anything to him, you just stare at him, not believing the words that had left his mouth. Sweet Pea had feelings for you but didn't think you felt the same.
"Y/N, talk to me."
"We've both been stupid Sweets."
"What you talking about?" He asks looking all confused.
"I have feelings for you as well I have from the very first time I saw you but I didn't think that you would ever feel the same way about me."
Sweet Pea gets up and sits next to you, without another word he cups your face and kisses you. It was everything you had imagined and so much more. You couldn't believe that this was happening you finally admitted your feelings and he felt the same, you were so happy that you could cry. Sweet Pea pulls away and rests his forehead on yours and smiles.
"I can't believe how stupid we have been." He laughs. "Everyone kept telling me to just admit everything to you I just didn't listen to them."
"Maybe we should listen to our friends more and just grow a pair instead of being a scaredy cat." You smile.
"Yeah. I'm sorry about what I did. Can you forgive me?"
You grab the collar of his shirt and kiss him.
"Does that answer your question?" You ask.
"It sure does Princess. So will you be my girl?"
"Yeah of course I will Pea." You smile.
You spend the rest of the night in Pop's, catching up on what had happened since you last spoke, stealing kisses every now and again. You were so happy, not only did you have Sweet Pea as your boyfriend but you had your best friend back which made everything that little bit better.
