my opinion is that bsd female characters are not badly written you guys just hate women 💔💔 okay like. i think when people think of ‘well-written female characters’, they have so much unfair criteria in place. if the woman has any relationships with male characters, she’s automatically seen as like, having her whole life centered around the man?? even if it isn’t true???? so for example yosano and ranpo (one of my fav bsd dynamics), there’s plenty emphasis on how much they treasure each other, how yosano was saved by ranpo, how ranpo relies on her greatly (see: stuck in poe’s book episode). not only that, but yosano’s backstory with shunzen explains so much on the way she views life and death, and her complicated dynamic with tachihara because of that is so interesting. but people either A) turn it around and say yosano’s character is centered on ranpo/shunzen (untrue), or B) just call yosano a girlboss and nothing else. LIKE!!!

lucy is another huge example of this. her character arc is one of the most interesting imo, how she went from wanting a saviour to being her own, how she created a new life for herself, how she’s afraid to be open and yet still carries love in her heart. and yet people say her character revolves around atsushi and nothing else 😭😭

sure maybe bsd women aren’t perfect, and it would be nice to see them interact with one another more (i’d love to see more higuchi and gin, or more lucy and louisa for example), but judging their characters on the pure basis of whether they interact with other women is like. not as woke as people think it is

tldr a female character having compelling dynamics with male characters does not diminish her weight as a character, female characters do not necessarily have to be physically/mentally strong to be interesting, and i fucking love bsd women

i love venom (2018) a lot, it’s my go-to movie when i’m bored or sad, i have seen it many many times. i saw it again a week or so ago with a bud and finally had the opportunity to pen down this lovely au i’ve been thinkin bout

i’ve got a much more fleshed out sketch of how this au plays out. not sure if i’ll write it yet

anyway some bullet points

noir (called, ofc, noir) arrives on earth-138 in the 1920s. his first host is robbie and they basically go through the venom movie, where noir slowly learns to love earth and humanity and all that jazz. up until the 50s or so they’re an investigative reporter and occasionally a scary vigilante superhero!

when robbie is killed (not ewaf style. i forbid it), it fucking devastates noir and he host-hops for a bit, doing fun anarchy things to keep up robbie’s legacy but also losing a few morals here and there. he can do a little murder and eat nazis as a treat

the symbiotes arrive en masse and osborn infects humans with them to turn into his fascist riot police army

through vampire-hunting-esque shenanigans, hobie and noir meet, and strike up a tenuous truce to fight the government. hobie does not like him at first, but noir very much does ;)

cue a slow burn gothic romance between a freedom fighter and a devoted monster <3

idk man the thing about the series post pjo is that it wants you to be aware of all the fucked up traumatic childhoods and systematic abuse all the characters experience but it doesn't want you to be too aware to the point that you're hung up on it and are calling for fundamental changes to the system.

if you dare call out all these issues the response you usually get is "these books are for kids :) what did you expect" "what you want out of it won't happen because this is children's media" .. but like dude look at all the heavy topics we're dealing with here lol. my bad for wanting all these issues acknowledged to the point where there's genuine resolve for these characters

Younger Soren overhears people talking about hitting on someone and he takes it literally so he reports it to Guards which causes a few issues. Viren and Lissa attempt to explain to Soren what it means to hit on someone but he doesn't get it so they get Kpp'Ar in hopes that he'll be able to help. Kpp'Ar also takes it literally and doesn't understand why he's there.

Ex.

Viren: Soren, what you did is brave and right but it was just a major misunderstanding.

Soren: How?

Viren: Well when you hit on someone, it means you're trying to show interest in them.

Soren: WHY WOULD YOU HIT THEM??

Lissa: Soren, that's not...that's not what happens. Maybe we should have Kpp'Ar explain it.

*cue someone getting Kpp'Ar*

Kpp'Ar: What do you want?

Soren: They're trying to tell me it's ok to hit people when you like them!

Kpp'Ar: Excuse me?

Lissa: No, that's not what we're doing. We're trying to explain to Soren what it means to hit on someone because there was a misunderstanding.

Kpp'Ar: What misunderstanding? It means you hit someone.

Viren: Are you serious?

Soren: That's what I told them!

Viren: No...just no

Kpp'Ar: What else could it mean?

Lissa: I'm leaving, this is all you Viren.

Viren: Kpp'Ar, Soren, we need to have a long, long talk.

The tags on the most recent Eiche drawing made me imagine an scenario in which other replikas she's like your usual replika age (or maybe slightly on the younger side), meanwhile for the other KASUARS she's ✨💀a n c i e n t💀✨ and annoying her with questions like "Eiche were you there when the dinosaurs went extinct?" Or something like that 😅

It gets old quickly, apparently.

Funny thing is that young as she is, she truly is authentically ancient for a kasuar. Her own unit doesn't mess with her outside of when they actually talk about age and they start teasing her, since they gotta keep the mateiral fresh.

She does end up training or briefing recruits and those fellas are new and fresh and ready. "And that's it. We strike from the west. any questions?" "Did you use dinosaurs as cavalry when you deployed?" "Not a useful question. And no."
