If I had $10 for every time, upon meeting me, someone got so immediately confused by my gender that they quickly correct their first guess before I even had a chance to say hello, I'd be able to pay my rent.

#and it isnt consistent #people see my long hair and call me ma'am #then i turn around and they'll see my beard and bluescreen for a second before saying 'sorry i meant sir?'#other people say 'excuse me sir' and I'll ask what they need and they'll hear my voice and say 'sorry!! i mean ma'am!'#sometimes someone will take a guess at my gender and immediately walk it back but they don't know what they should correct to #like they feel like they chose the wrong gender but they're second guessing themselves #i think most people don't mean it in a shitty way #they're usually a little embarassed and apologetic that they don't know how to categorize me #sometimes i correct them but most of the time i just try to move our conversation along #queer #transgender #gender

does anyone have like an anti aesthetic. like something you look at and can recognize as a complete fashion/interior design/artistic movement and understand it but it makes you shudder seeing it. i am not talking like “its morally bad” “its poorly structured” like just sheerly devoid of joy for you actually invites a repulse response.

origins is such a fun deconstruction of 90's/2000's fantasy.. all the dragon age games are extremely heavily influenced by the current fantasy culture, but that usually lends itself to mimicry in the later ones, and that's definitely the case in origins too—it's not a coincidence that they were doing forgotten realms games (baldur's gate 1&2, neverwinter nights 1) and then released a game with subclasses such as 'bard' and 'ranger' lol—but there was a larger conversation with the genre that was going on in origins that is just so interesting to me. as pointed out in lrb oghren is one example, but it also shows with the templars and the wardens and the darkspawn and the elves and the mages... half the reason the worldbuilding is like that is clearly due to their grievances and thoughts on dnd in particular, which makes sense bc nwn came out only 6 or 7 years before origins

#they didnt always execute this well and i didnt always like what they had to say but it was soo interesting #later games dont do this bc they already had a setting to play in and be consistent with—origins could do w/e it wanted lol #whenever i read 90s/2000s fantasy or play the other forgotten realms bw games i do think about origins literally the whole time.#da #01 #origins #this isnt anything new and i dont have a point here i just love thinking about it.
