Spoilers ahead The kisaragi station AU’s ending really just felt like a reminder about Mitsuba and Kou’s inevitable ending. The fact that, no matter what they do, no matter what universe it is, they can never truly be together.
And we have seen this time and time again.
Starting from Mitsuba’s death.
Tumblr media
Then they reunite, but Tsukasa intervenes.
Tumblr media
And this affects Kou greatly, to the point where he feels like he can no longer fail when protecting people or making promises. Eventually they meet again,
Tumblr media
But he’s no longer the Mitsuba Sousuke. Sure he looks and acts like him (and is made from a part of him), but he doesn’t have his memories or experiences. Kou is clearly shown to be practically heartbroken by this. Perhaps it’s because of this, that Mitsuba wants to know who he is properly, and to know his original past. Which eventually leads to the picture perfect arc. Where Mitsuba knows a bit about himself now, aswell as Kou. Through Mitsubas actions you can tell that he really does want to be friends with Kou. Yet they’re both aware that this is all fake. Mitsuba knows that who Kou really wants is the original one. However..
Tumblr media
Kou was perfectly willing, happy even, to kill himself to be with Mitsuba - so that Mitsuba wasn’t alone anymore. But, Mitsuba doesn’t want this for Kou so in the end he intervenes. When they return to the real world, he still keeps an eye on Kou. To the point where during the summer sleepover he even goes to Kou to try and help him with his problems after overhearing the conversation between Yokoo and Satou.
Tumblr media
But merely hours later, the severance occurs. Separating them once more. During this, Yashiro and Kou meet Mitsubas mother. It’s during this that Kou seems to finally process the fact that he is dead, and has been for a while now.
Tumblr media
Seemingly out of nowhere, once supernaturals are able to return to their world, Mitsuba goes to Kou. Which is nice, but Mitsuba ends up asking Kou to exorcise him. Obviously, Kou refuses to, why would he even ask him that in the first place? Then everything with the clock keepers happen, causing them to make a new present.
Tumblr media
But it’s different. Basically everyone who is dead, is alive. And for one of the first times, both mitsuba and Kou are alive, happy and close, without it being fake. In a timeline where everything is practically messed up for everyone else (especially their relationships and friendships) it isn’t for these two. Which is another reminder of why they will never be able to stay together. Everything that makes the original timeline the original, is what keeps them apart. So, just like mitsuba said in the kisaragi station AU,
Tumblr media
‘I can’t follow you anymore.’ He is incapable of being able to join Kou.
They can never walk the same path forever, as one way or another, they’ll never get their happy ending together. Perhaps that’s why in this event Mitsuba wasn’t wearing either of his scarfs, as it doesn’t really matter which one he is for it will always end like this for the originals.
Sorry I’m not really good at wording things and I’ve never doing anything like this before-

META ANALYSIS - Mitsukou (part 1)
General topic - how they’re written as a one of the romantic couples in the story
Before I start, I need to say few things:
1. I’m not native english speaker. I’m probably going to make a lot of errors and mistakes, mix times, have a lacking vocabulary etc. Please be ready for it. I want to write my meta post anyway, so I would be happy if you will stay to the end with me!
2. If you do not like Mitsukou/hate this ship or anything like that - maybe this post it's not for you. It's totally okay to ship different thing and like different things, I don’t mind. My post is not a starter for a discussion tho, I’m not interested in discourses, argues and hate. I don’t really plan to “prove” anything to anyone or force you to change your mind, whole post is only MY analysis and my point of view. You are not obligated to feel the same way I feel, to see things the same way I see them.
3. I’m not interested in proving if Mitsukou is going to ever be canon or anything. I don’t know that. I’m also not going to analyze if they’re ever going to be a CANON COUPLE or an ENDGAME COUPLE. It’s only about if they’re written as a romantic relationship, and being written as a romantic couple =/= being a canon couple, they’re a lot of pairs in media that definitely are written as a romantic relationship without them being together ever or being an endgame. I’m not going to speculate about endgame, especially when one of the characters is supernatural and one is a human.
Okay, I think we can start now!
Let's start from the beginning. Because my first language is not english my post may be a little bit chaotic, putting all my thoughts in at least some order and with at least some sense it's actually hard, haha. In part 1 I will try to cover the first meeting between Kou and the ghost of Mitsuba.
So!
They first met during chapter 18. And it was meeting between Kou and ghost of a Mitsuba Sousuke, so it wasn’t our currently Mitsuba - it worth to mention they're not the same person, even if they are extremely similar, share a lot elements of their personalities, they look nearly the same, and current Mitsuba even share some dead Sousuke's memories because of School Mystery No. 4 Shijima Mei and her Picture Perfect arc. Still - not the same person and Mitsuba Kou met in chapter 18 is not the current Mitsuba.
At the beginning they're not really that much written as a romantic, their short arc was more like something starting Kou’s personal arc and his development. He got some background, some motivation, some angst, he changed. For most part Kou behaved pretty normal, just like himself - a selfless, lively boy that really wanted to help a lonely, sad ghost that Mitsuba was. (he wasn’t traumatized yet). Even if some of their interaction could be readed with a shippy glasses, there wasn’t anything that was inherently romantic about them.
Tumblr media
I think it's kind of ironic how this is literally their first panel in the manga. Mitsuba literally looks like some kind of eldritch horror and he says “Did you forget about me?”. Yeah Kou, did you? This quite sums some elements of their arc. We know that Kou actually did forget about Mitsuba, who was one of his classmates. Also, Kous' trauma, related to everything that happened to Mitsuba, hunts him for the rest of the story. He also, clearly has a problem with recognition of both Mitsubas, with dealing with Ghost Mitsuba death and with the idea of forgetting someone and leaving someone. We also know that, when current!Mitsuba was made by Tsukasa, he didn’t remember Kou. That's why this quote here is very ironic.
Tumblr media
There is nothing really to analyze here but I find it funny. Yeah, you quite literally just haunted the wrong guy and it’s going to be a problem for you and said guy for the next 15 volumes of the manga. Good luck.
Tumblr media
Even after calling Mitsuba an “evil spirit” Kou still tries to help him and even decides to “take the big tough guy approach” to make Mitsuba feel safer about him. Kou is not really “the big tough guy”, even if he tries to pose as one. He is a 14 yo kid with kind of fucked up situation in life, even, if he doesn’t recognize it yet.
Tumblr media
Maybe you could learn something from Kous stupid earning, mr. boy who DIED in the car accident.
It's definitely not an accident that Mitsuba died hit by a car and Kou has a BIG earning with a big caption “TRAFFIC SAFETY”. Even after reading all chapters up to 103 I’m not really sure how I should interpret this exact symbolism in their relationship, but it's definitely done on purpose by the authors. I think it may symbolize that Kou, with a “traffic safety” earning will save Mitsuba, who previously died in a traffic accident from dying another time? Like, now Mitsuba have Kou by his side and maybe Kou will manage to keep him safe. His earning is mentioned by Mitsuba too many times, it's done so we can notice it, for sure. And I wonder how it turns out.
Tumblr media
It’s the first time Mitsuba suggests that Kou either has some kind of feelings toward him, tries to do something dirty towards him or something similar. Every time he just jokes or tries to provoke Kou or something like that. At first I thought it's just how Mitsuba is, some people love to joke like that, but then I noticed, later in the story, that Kou is quite literally the only person Mitsuba ever does this to. Sure he does not have many friends “his age” but still during the manga it would be possible for him to behave like that toward other characters, but he does not. He jokes like that only toward Kou and I think during the next parts of my writing I will point it out more.
Tumblr media
Even after 20 minutes of insulting he is still concerned about Mitsuba. That's so funny and sweet.
Tumblr media
Yeeeaaah sure it totally does not relate in any way to the fact that ghost Motsuba got to die after taking a photo of KOU out of everything yeeeeaaaah nada nope. It's crazy how the authors planned this because Hanako really started as some kind of funny manga about kids and ghosts and supernatural things, but the angst we get later is actually top notch and kinda scary. There was few moments I really had to like, stand up and walk in my room because of the emotions I felt after reading.
Tumblr media
Look how happy he is with the idea of being a model to the Mitsubas photos. He is bright, smiling and even blushing. The next ironic thing is how he cried after actually seeing a picture of himself made by Mitsuba. Also I like how prominent his earning is here.
Tumblr media
Mitsuba is very particular, he really made pictures only of animals, plants and other non-human things. That's probably why his photo of Kou hit me like a train. That's literally narratively confirming that Mitsuba saw Kou as something (someone) he likes, someone that is important to him. Kou also realized it after seeing the picture, that was one of the reasons why he was so devastated.
Tumblr media
There are few things about that whole scene I would like to point up. The first are doves. Mitsuba, especially Ghost Mitsuba, is often presented with doves as a form of his symbolism. Doves and cherry blossoms are probably the most prominent symbols of his character. I’m not really that good when it comes to symbols, but I think doves symbolize things like peace, but also some form of innocence/purity and love. Some sources also say about transformation and spirituality. I think one of the reasons for choosing doves is to symbolize how he didn’t deserve to die like that, that his soul is actually good and seeks for peace. In Kou’s eyes he is also someone innocent, definitely. Especially when we are talking about ghost Mitsuba at the beginning of a story.
ALSO I’m pretty sure birds are foreshadowing to current!Mitsuba being made from the school mystery no. 3 who looked like a bird and who current!Mitsuba gained a lot of his characteristics from. Current!Mitsuba hair looks like feathers, his hand looks like talons etc. He is heavily associated with birds from the beginning. Even if Ghost!Mitsuba is associated with doves more and current!Mitsuba with ravens or crows.
The next thing about this scene is Kou finally realizing he knew Mitsuba and it hit him. Understanding that Mitsuba actually KNEW Kou and it was Kou who didn’t remember him probably made him feel remorse and generally really bad about himself. That’s not a nice thing if you forget about a boy who was with you in a class, and the fact that ghost Mitsuba actually tried to talk to him and asked him “Did you forget about me”... It's hard for me to even imagine what Kou felt at that moment.
Also, Mitsuba surely didn’t know about Kou being from an exorcist family, so he wouldn't expect that Kou will take direct action after meeting a ghost lol. If it comes to Mitsuba, I’m pretty sure it was very scary.
Tumblr media
I wish we could see more of them like that. Just like two boys having fun with each other. I love angst, trust me. But I think they deserve rest and to just have a chance to play and talk a be… normal for once. Everytime when they get a chance to have fun they’re cute and hilarious together.
Tumblr media
Rain can symbolize sadness and hard emotions soooo yeah, I’m not surprised it started raining. I think it sort of symbolizes feelings of both Kou and Mitsuba here.
Tumblr media
They’re going to the third floor and I’m sure it's foreshadowing to Mitsuba becoming a School Mystery no. 3.
I’m still impressed how much foreshadowing is during their first meeting (chap 18-20). Like the birds, nr 3, traffic safety earning, motif of remembering/forgetting etc. You could also think that photography would be something like that but… it's not. Photography becomes a thing that is helping recognizing human/ghost Mitsuba from current supernatural Mitsuba. They’re similar but not the same person. Photos were one of the main characteristics of the original Mitsuba, both in this arc and during a moment with Mitsubas mother later. It was always about photos, but it's never about photos when it comes to our current Mitsuba.
Tumblr media
Yeah, that kind of explains why Kou didn’t remember him immediately, even after seeing how Mitsuba looks and hearing his surname he should know. Because, like, Kou should remember him, they were in the same class, sit close to each other etc. But the mask that Mitsuba created was so strong that made him nearly imperceptible (like, you know, a ghost hah) and at this point tbh I don’t think Mitsuba liked it very much. He is actually a pretty bold and cocky person and all of this probably bugged him. Of course he wasn’t bullied, but was it worth becoming somebody different, somebody boring and bland to others? I think there is some form of regret. But also I don’t think that ALL of this was a mask, because Mitsuba definitely has some of a calmer and more sweet side to himself, he showed it a lot of times.
Tumblr media
He tries to fix it up by recognizing him now for who he is. With both his positive and negative aspects, even if he points out mostly his flaws. Still, this is the Mitsuba he met, the Mitsuba he knows and the Mitsuba he IS GOING TO remember. Mitsuba he befriended now. It actually means a lot for Sousuke. He is dead, he may have thought that it's the end for him and for all of his relationships he ever had. Its funny how Mitsuba said he is a ghost because he still wanted to do photos, but the truth is he wanted relationships, but the true ones. Not based on his “fake” nice self, but on real him with all his flaws and that's why he haunted other students rather than just… go do photos or something. He tried to connect to others, because he subconsciously thought relationships and friends he had when he lived weren’t really true and real. It’s ironic how it resembles the current!Mitsuba in Picture Perfect act.
Kou started to realize who Mitsuba was and how tragic his situation was, he started to empathize. Kou has a martyr complex, so he wanted to help Mitsuba any way he could. It was also shown that he does LIKE Mitsuba even with his twisted personality, Kou said it himself and it surely means a lot for Mitsuba who wasn’t liked before for his true personality. That was probably the moment Mitsuba felt a real bond towards Kou and become attached to him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And Kou even blushed a few times. That would still be read as platonic and sweet tho!. I think it was, personally. The most important thing during their first meeting was, of course, how it ended, because, in my opinion, it was a moment when most (not all tho) Kou's mental problems started. There was still his family, of course. Teru loves Kou very much, but still his mentality and behavior was a root for Kou’s low self esteem and some other elements of his personality, tho I think it may be a topic for a whole different post.
In this small arc, in my opinion, the moment that was the beginning of me perceiving them as written as one of the couples, a romantic relationship was this exact moment:
Tumblr media
“I don’t know… maybe something important to me?”
And also a moment when Kous saw this picture for the first time, when he developed photos, and how this cracked him.
Generally, becoming friends with Mitsuba was very important to Kou. Not only because he wanted to help him (and, internally, also making Kou feel better about himself) but also it was probably the first time when… Kou may feel somewhat special? He always was in the shadow of Teru, he wasn’t an “official” exorcist, he wasn't going to missions in the town, he wasn’t very strong (Hanako literally KO’ed him without a sweat and Kou couldn't do much to Hanako), the girl he got a small crush on (Nene) clearly had something with Hanako… Kou was always pushed back and now, with Mitsuba, he made an actually special relationship between the only two of them. He felt NEEDED, and we all know how much Kou desperately needs to feel NEEDED. In his own mind, he was the only one that could help Mitsuba and that understood Mitsuba, that's why Mitsubas ghost death was so hard for him. He finally got something special for himself and he couldn't even protect it and he let lonely, poor ghost tragically vanish. That's some trauma for you.
I’m not going to write much about Mitsubas feelings there because it was Sousuke Mitsubas feelings - and currently I’m going to focus more on a School Mystery Mitsuba. Tho Sousuke definitely perceived Kou and his help as something special to him. That's where their fated bond started.
Tumblr media
“You can help me develop them tomorrow and then… I think I’ll be okay”.
Yet we can’t see his eyes when he speaks, and that suggests he thinks something different that what he speaks. Not showing eyes is a common motif to show that a character is lying or saying something he does not think or hiding something. Here is just like that - it’s not about photos, it's about KOU. It’s because of Kou he is going to be okay, not because of the photos he took today. Something changed for Mitsuba when Kou recognized him for someone he actually is and wanted to become friends with him. For Mitsuba it means a lot because when he was alive he couldn’t get true friends and real relationships with others.
Tumblr media
Yeah walk walk trauma baby. I know I mention  ‘trauma” a lot when it comes to Kou, but the whole manga is like a one big parade of traumas for this boy and it's not even funny. I’m not surprised he is starting to become more and more insane with every next arc. Especially in the Night Out small arc we can clearly see how detached from actual reality Kou starts to be and how he stops recognizing differencs between supernatural and real word, good and evil, selfless and selfish behavior etc. It’s all the result of the traumatic situations he was put in for like 16 volumes straight. And he is bearing it A LOT WORSE than Nene is.
Tumblr media
Ouch.
“You wished for people remembering you but now youre happy with just a one person?” That hits hard but also I’m angry at Tsukasa, like leave that boy alone.Even one person can make a change in someones life, and thats what Mitsuba felt at a moment. For Kou he was someone, he was real, he had a personality, Kou recognized him and that gives him a true sense of identity. For him it was enough
Tumblr media
You met like half of a day before and you are calling him your friend and fighting for him with an unknown dangerous supernatural who looks exactly like your other friend. Bruh that's some dedication. Kou is desperate to save Mitsuba, but Kou is generally desperate to be a savior. He tries to “save” Nene a lot of times even if it’s not really necessary, because Nene also has other friends and people who support her and is pretty clever and capable of bearing problems on her own (most of the time). Yet Kou still treats Nene like some damsel in distress that need his protection when it's CLEARLY not like that. Sadly, Kou mostly fails anyway. He fails now with Mitsuba and if it comes to Nene, if she needs saving, the person who (usually) saves her is Hanako. Kou rarely has something he can actually do and it's cracking him up mentally.
Tumblr media
Yeah, “I’m supernatural who grants wishes” not “I’m a ghost of a boy who once lived in this town”. Yeah. It was right here from the beginning.
Tumblr media
I just hope it’s not a form of foreshadowing.
Tumblr media
His last words were “Minamoto-kun”, it's so sad. On this last panel he actually looked a little brighter than on the previous panel of his transformation, and that's because he looked at Kou.
I need to say, seeing a person you treat important to you and calling a friend dying in a horrible way and hearing their last words being your name must be pretty stressful. It would probably haunt me for a long time and I’m sure Kou is still affected by it.
On the 20 chapter cover Mitsuba is together with the rest of the main squad (Nene, Hanako, Kou). It was pretty weird back then - he literally died and looks like he was going to be a one-arc character that started Kous character development, but this cover was a hint that it's going to be different and Mitsuba, probably, is going to play a whole different role in the story. He, also, had a hand around Kous head and nearly touched his hair gently - its a symbol of intimacy.
Tumblr media
That was a proof how strong, narratively, their relationship is and is going to be during the progression of a story. And, in my opinion, a foreshadowing to Mitsubas feelings. Because I think currently, our Mitsuba is aware of his feelings toward Kou, but I’m going to cover this topic a little bit later.
On this cover there is a lot more symbolism, especially with Hanako and his role in the story, but it's also a thing for a whole different post.
What Tsukasa said was that Mitsubas wish was ‘“ want to stay with my friends forever and ever”.
Tumblr media
That’s literally what I said earlier.
It’s a recurring topic with current!Mitsuba and his relationship with Kou.  Mitsuba feels lonely and… Kou also feels lonely. Even if he has a brother, father and friends (Nene and Hanako and other school friends) Kou is incredibly lonely because of his inferiority complex. He desperately needed to be needed, needed to be special to someone, needed to be important to someone, and that person was Mitsuba. Right now, he is the most important person to Mitsuba and that's both good and very bad for Kou. Good because he finally feels like someone important and someones one and only, but bad because of how traumatic his relationship with Mitsuba is to him and how unhealthy it is. And by it I don’t mean  they’re toxic or bad people - they are kids who want to be loved and who want to have their place in the world. But Mitsuba is a monster, he is a supernatural, whos life is stained away by his instinct, who needs to eat other monsters and who does not really… have any actual bright future and Kou is traumatized boy with low self estem, problems with his selfworth, with martyr complex and some sort of suicidal tendencies. They have a lot to work out.
Tumblr media
Kou is going to be a supernatural / is going to try to be a supernatural / is going to be forced to be supernatural - hint number one.
Yes, I will go back to this topic, because I’m literally scared of it so much. It's prominent during the whole story that Kou is foreshadowed to have a plotline related to becoming supernatural in some way. And when this topic is touched it's usually related to his plotline with Mitsuba. I’m kind of scared of HOW it’s going to happen or if it’s going to be only a try or Kou really will become supernatural in some way. But it's too much of a recurring topic of Kous WHOLE character arc to not being important and to not happen. It's even hard to call it foreshadowing, its literal hints everywhere.
Tumblr media
Kou spent with Mitsuba literally… one day, outside of being in the same class for a while (Kou didn’t even remember this time THAT much, time they spend together this day was more important) and yet he CLINGED SO HARD to the idea that Mitsuba is his “friend”. He desperately needed to be wanted, needed, to have a special bond, to being able to help, to save someone. And yet he lost Mitsuba at this moment, he couldn't do shit to save him, he was absolutely… just useless during a fight. It affected him a lot.
During the scene when Hanako “kills” Mitsuba, there are sakura petals. They’re heavily associate with Mitsuba and are one of his symbols:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This scene, narratively was a scene that said to us he is GONE. For good. It was a “goodbye” for him and Kou, he is dead. That's all. At this point we couldn't know we are going to meet current!Mitsuba, so we could thing that is the end of Mitsuba and the beginning of a Kous arc. And… it was both of these things but in the whole DIFFERENT meaning. Of course it was goodbye to the Sousuke, he is dead, he can’t come back. Of course it was a beginning for Kous development. But… it was also a beginning for our current!Mitsuba, for slowly progressing Kous insanity as an effect of his trauma and the beginning for Mitsuba and Kous actual arc and relationship. We thought it was the end but it was actually the beginning that changed… the whole Kou, to be honest.
Tumblr media
I think it's related not only to Mitsuba but to Hanako, too. Imagine what Hanako could feel at that moment. He is a ghost and a supernatural who know how doomed he is and he only protects school and Nene. But Kou said it's bullshit and clearly believes in what he says. Sadly, Hanako is so stubborn.
Tumblr media
One of the symbols related to Kou is a lion. Lions may symbolize a lot of things, like strength, courage but also - protection. Just like Kou tries to protect everyone and tries to be strong and courageous for others. I actually think it suits him quite well. Lions also symbolize the sun and it was shown a few times that Kou is like a sun to Mitsuba.
Tumblr media
At some point of a story he is definitely going to do some crazy shit I’m telling you. He really tries to believe that he can find a way to change how the world works and it can end up good but.. it can also end up INCREDIBLY BAD. It’s not that good to mess up with life and death and when you cross up a border there is no coming back. With every arc the manga is becoming a little bit more dark and serious with topic it shows and och boy I’m kind of scared for Kou and Mitsuba.
Tumblr media
You can literally hear me crying. It was probably the first moment in the manga that actually had any impact on me, I was really like… I had to stand and walk for a bit before reading. Kou sees a photo of himself and remembers Sousuke saying “Who knows? Maybe something important to me?” and starting crying was like. I wanted to cry too. I can’t even imagine what Kou felt at this moment, it was probably absolutely heartbreaking.
This small arc finished with chapter 20.During the next arc, Kou, already  affected by Mitsubas death, gets to know that Nene also has a shortened lifespan and it's going to die very shortly. That wasn’t too good for his mental state and he literally fixated on a goal in saving her. When Kou learned about Nene’s situation, Hanako even related it to Mitsubas situation, so we can clearly understand these two examples are related to Kou. He doesn’t want this situation to happen again.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Just like with this boy, there is nothing you can do” - Hanako you little shit
But yeah. Again Kou understands how useless he is. How weak he is, how he can’t save anyone the way he is. How he could do nothing about Mitsubas situation and how he can’t do nothing about Nene’s situation. That's tragic. And it's clear Kou doesn’t know what to do about it. Thats why, when current!Mitsuba appeared, he started to find such a ridiculous (and unhealthy) solutions to Mitsubas (and Kous) problems. He don't know what to do but desperately needs to do… something. Anything. To help, to be important.
It's sad. He said he dont know what he is gonna do, but HE WILL DO SOMETHING. And yet… we know how it all goes for him. He is a brave kid, who is determined and wants others to be happy and alive.
He even tried to stop a kiss between Hanako and Nene after reading Nenes book and failed. He always fails.
There is also an special page
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It is titled “Love stories” that should be about Mitsuba. And it contains both Mitsuba and Kou. It's just a joke, but I need to point out that Mitsuba generally wasn’t shown to be interested in any girl during the progression of the story or never talked about it in general. He also does not crush on Nene, even when both Hanako and Kou felt something toward her at some point in the story. He also talks about how cute he is A LOT and I’m going to say something about it someday, but not now.
I think it's enough for part 1! I think I covered everything I wanted for their first meeting. Let's see at Mitsubas resurrection in the Hell of Mirrors!

Hello💕sooo I was wondering, Do you have any favorite parallels between Hananene and Mitsukou???
And as a fun extra question, do you have any guesses of who in the jshk cast, would survive by the end??? Cuz I feel like we’re gonna lose a bunch of characters by the end of the manga tbh 🥲
Anyway, take care 💕💃💕
You talked about the characters' deaths, it made me remember how the characters aren't punished properly in this series. The PP arc, Hanako did all that so at the end Yashiro and Kou said "don't do that again" and then a new arc started hahahahaha
Likewise with arc number six, Hanako literally almost killed Yashiro's best friend, and after everything was over and they got back together, once again Kou and Nene were like "don't do that again" and Hanako assured them that he wouldn't do it what they wanted. Soon after, everything was fine hahahaha a new arc begins.
This irritates me a little. Many things happened, talk about it!!! They just let it go and move on. So, about the deaths, I can't tell you because death doesn't seem to be the end of everything in this series.
Mitsuba was the only one who "died" but came back before we missed him. There is always a near death, but so far nothing serious (for now).
If I were to make a guess, I think Tsukasa, Hanako and Mitsuba would disappear, Tsukasa and Mitsuba are almost certainly the most likely for me for now.
About Yashiro… I don't know, but since she's at an impasse, I don't doubt that her end will be death or that she will be trapped in some way like a supernatural. It would be a bit obvious, so I would be surprised if she stayed alive.
The others would only die in the middle of an intense battle, I don't doubt that this will happen (the intense battle) but about their deaths, I don't know. We know that Kou's future is guaranteed at least until Teru's age, if the story continues until Kou reaches that age, then he will be safe for now (Mirai has advanced his time).
I don't know if Aidairo would kill most of the characters, but if she does it will be something very brave, most people hate this ending hahaha it's happened with some famous series, I won't mention names to avoid spoilers.
About the parallels hahaha I'll confess that I'm still starting out on Mitsuba and Kou's ship, their development is very slow, I still only see them as friends, I need more, I want more moments between the two in a more romantic way, but This will take time, there are some internal barriers that Kou and Mitsuba need to overcome.
I still wonder if Kou is thinking about the possibility of him being attracted to Mitsuba? He seems to have an attachment to him, but he still believes it's just friendship, and Mitsuba seems to live in another world hahahaha
But about the parallels
Tumblr media Tumblr media
These moments are perfect, Mitsukou in the aquarium, and Hanene on the far shore. Both running in search of answers and in the end becoming more attached to each other.
I hope you liked it, thanks for the ask! ♡

CONTROVERSIAL OPINION ALERT 🗣️‼️
Jk anyways hot takes have always been kind of a drama-trigger for tbhk fans generally (though most takes aren’t exactly “hot” they’re either lukewarm or just bad), but most prominently on tbhktwt, which I don’t actively participate in. But I’ve noticed that every time one of those “what’s your unpopular tbhk opinion?” Posts gets popular everyone starts fighting and it’s kindof annoying. Which for a few reasons: they just like to argue when no huge announcements are happening to make sure the fan base stays alive, or someone just has a really bad opinion (ex the toxic nene post).
Now that’s not the point and has nothing to do with what I’m about to say but I thought it’d be a fun intro.
(tldr at end and also more concise points w/o the tired rambling)
Quick side note. I’m being super serious, these are all just opinions I possess but they don’t necessarily exist in a vacuum. I mostly just want to complain about a trope I don’t like, but I’m not die-hard about any of this. So take everything I say with a grain of salt
Mitsuba, Sousuke, and what makes a character interesting
(Mitsukou cameo 2 because staying on topic is hard)
Tumblr media
After a while, I started to develop a bit of a dislike of Mitsuba, the fake one specifically
To elaborate: During Sousuke’s introductory arc (and the only one he’s in) despite the trope-y nature of his character, his opening up during the chapters and his pre-canon connection to Kou is what, to me, made me like him more. I personally cannot stand the “cute-boy but actually he’s really mean” archetype, and it really turned me off from him in general. But I continued through it anyway. I thought the subversion of it was nice, not having him on edge and actually have a somewhat heart-to-heart was nice. And then he died whoopsie
I liked the hell of mirrors, like a lot actually. At the beginning I really liked Mitsuba, but as the series went on the traits I disliked started to shine more than the ones I liked. His stoic act around Nene at the very beginning of the hell of mirrors was the peak I strived for, but it basically never appeared again. The gruesome horror of Mitsuba lost my interest as he began to behave more human, I think. Now really all of this just comes down to personal preference. I like subversion, so I liked how Mitsuba was at the very beginning, but I never loved him. And I know that the direction his character took was always going to be the same but some part of me prayed for some kind of miracle.
He’s not human, but he wants to be, and I liked the idea a lot. But I was never able to get invested because almost every time he was in a chapter I wanted to bang my head into a wall. The the sensitivity and tact of Mitsuba isn’t lost, but I feel like a lot of it is lost when he’s around certain characters. His interactions with Nene (with a few exceptions) demonstrates how he could be if he decided to tone it down on occasion, still irritating but y’know, not as much. This falters with Kou in specific though, as he is constantly flip-flopping between defensive and annoying. If he could learn to let his guard down a little, it could really go a long way
Speaking of Kou
They are peers, they knew each other, and now only Kou remembers. Great, love it. Mitsukou, now that’s where it gets a little complicated.
As true equals, I do love them. And I know “the fandom ruined it for me” is a ballshit excuse but it genuinely does this time ‘round, and I can give a few pinpoints.
1. The constant feminization of Mitsuba
Every fandom is guilty of this at some point, and tbhk is no different. Forcible feminization of one (typically smaller or younger) male characters because they act even somewhat effeminate. And I have a right to be upset! It’s my 2nd amendment right or whatever!
2. And in tandem, the over-masculinization of Kou
His ass is fourteen!!! He ain’t buff!!! he probably still squeaks when he gets scared!! Enter that scene where Dipper is singing ABBA in the bathroom and Stan walks in except it’s Kou!!
3. General disregard of canonical characterization
Mitsuba can absolutely handle himself I’m going to kill someone
IMO mitsukou only really works if there’s an underlying understanding that 1. They’re both stupid kids. 2. They’re peers, and wether supernatural or not they are in alot of ways equals. And 3. They’re both deeply flawed.
To add onto that, Kou is indecisive about values. He wants to be an exorcist but has gotten attached to every somewhat sympathetic spirit he’s come in contact with, showing that he’s far too empathetic for the profession. He claims to understand Teru’s view on the undead yet he holds his personal judgment over his brothers consistently, for better or worse (yeah IK hanako is the title character so obviously he has to be good so why would he die but I’m just trying to think about it more literally, y’dig?). Mitsuba (the fake one) is not, and never will be, he isn’t meant to last forever. Sousuke (the dead one) Left everything unresolved, even when trying after death, nothing ever came to any conclusion, not even with his mom.
They work alone, but not yet together. But they can, it’s not too late, if given care and some intense therapy, they could totally be awkward teen romance of the summer. But the cannibalism should probably be talked about b4 that
Overall I think the general populous of Mitsukou could really benefit by trying to understand their dynamics a lil better, but what would I know I’m no yaoiologist
TL;DR (and end notes don’t forget) Basically, I wish he kept the short-lived confidence he gained in the Hell of Mirrors. I wish his cutesy-mean attitude died after as well. I also wish he wasn’t nearly as feminized as he is. (He’s not 4,9 he’s taller than Nene and would most likely be (if he didn’t die, rest in rip) the same height if not taller than Kou). Also his dynamic with Tsukasa makes me uncomfortable, like deeply so, it’s kinda really weird. ALSO(also) I think the constant comparison to Hananene is weird because the same comparison can be made to literally 90% of the other ships, why is no one ever comparing them to Terukane? Or Aoiaoi? Or Sumi6 (actually I completely understand why not sumi6 but they’re literally all human x supernatural no one is special)
Anyway the point I’m attempting to get across (while sleep deprived) is that (to me) Mitsuba as a character just doesn’t tickle my fancy and I tried my best to explain some reasons why. if you don’t agree, that’s perfectly fine! No one is entitled to agree with me.
Sorry if bad grammar I,m moments away from death Uauuughhh ninja out

What’s ur opinion on the whole Teru and kou fight ? Do u think any of them where in the wrong ? ^^
I love it, it’s one of my all time favorite chapters! I will die for the Minamoto bros!
And I think both boys are justified but in the wrong.
Before I get into their fight, is good to remember that their conflict is a follow up to the young exorcist mini arc. The arc that actually had a “proper” resolution, ending with Kou promising to take responsibility and interfere if Hanako proved to be dangerous.
Tumblr media
A lot happened after this promise: We got Nene's lifespan reveal, Kou’s promise to always be on her side, his feelings of failure after Mitsuba’s death, which only increased after Hanako called him out for “talking big but having no solutions to offer”, his promise with the second Mitsuba, and much more.
Kou got overwhelmed by it all. So much so, he stopped giving his promise to Teru any thought, something we are explicitly shown in chap 65, where Teru wasn’t even an option when he started thinking about his “top priorities.”
Tumblr media
And even more happened after the study camp, so it wasn’t surprising that he decided to side with Yashiro.
But Teru doesn’t know any of that, in his mind, this promise is just as important to him as it is to Kou. He is so confident Kou will keep his word and stop Hanako if he shows signs of being dangerous, that he gives Kou full liberty: He let Kou hang out with Hanako and other ghosts, he even teams him up with Nene when they are searching for a way to the far shore because he believed nothing would make Kou go against him.
Now, Teru is a smart person, but he is also arrogant, so when he comes to a conclusion he always assumes he is right.
He never asks Kou anything because he assumes Kou understands Hanako crossed the line by destroying the yorishiros, which caused enough damage for the need of a severance and led Aoi to her death, and he will take responsibility for it.
He clearly trusts Kou to keep his word, and the interesting thing about Teru is that as guarded and prideful as he is, when he trusts someone with something, he trusts them blindly. He is genuinely surprised when Kou breaks his promise and points his weapon at him.
Tumblr media
Teru is hurt but he remains calm, he acts tired and unamused, almost testing Kou at first. Not taking him serious.
He ignores Kou to run after Hanako. He blocks and dodge but refuses to give Kou a fight. Even when there is no denial Kou is there to stop him, Teru doesn’t raise his voice, looking disappointed and tired. Annoyed at most.
He acts as if Kou messed up big time, but it's not personal.
Tumblr media
He only loses his cool when Kou proudly declares he is on Nene’s side.
Not Teru’s side. Nene’s side.
Tumblr media
This is when Teru snaps. Kou may not have thought much about his decision, but this hit Teru hard: There are few people Teru genuinely cares about, and even fewer that he trusts.
Watching the unshakable truth that his family will always be by his side be proven wrong messes with both Teru’s feelings and his ego.
Teru have every right to be angry here. Kou didn’t take Teru’s feelings into consideration at all when decided to side with Nene, so it can easily feel like he doesn’t need Teru anymore. That he doesn’t care.
But Kou also have every right to get angry.
Teru didn’t bring up their deal, and didn’t mention how this hurt, he stayed on the "high ground" to feel like he have control, so for Kou, his aggression came out of nowhere.
Kou is genuinely surprised by Teru’s change in attitude. It feels like his brother is being cruel for no reason, bringing up his chores and demoting his determination as playing hero just to make him feel bad.
Tumblr media
It’s not normal of him, so Kou's first instinct is to blame it on supernaturals. He doesn’t think at any point that he hurt Teru, and he doesn’t assume Teru wants to hurt him either since he knows Teru cares about him, he is just rationalizing as best he can. And the one thing he can’t understand at all is Teru’s attitude with supernaturals.
His unease only turn into anger when Teru snaps that Kou doesn’t understand him, as if Kou should be able to.
But Kou can’t, because Teru never tells him anything. Kou is rightfully angry to be blamed for something Teru brought on himself.
Teru can’t expect to get understanding, sympathy, or anything to help handle his pain when he is the one that doesn’t allow himself to be vulnerable and honest with Kou.
Tumblr media
Teru dug his own grave and dragged Kou in it too, even if Teru doesn’t realize it.
Teru built this image of someone ‘unbeatable and reliable’ since Kou was extremely young, he is almost untouchable, someone Kou can’t imagine helping outside domestic tasks. While it doesn’t make Kou’s action any less careless and insensitive, I can understand why he would prioritize those that he had failed before and ‘needs his help’, over Teru’s feelings.
Teru had good intentions when trying to protect Kou but he only fucked up Kou's self-esteem and give him a whole different batch of issues.
Tumblr media
Kou hates being pushed away. He doesn’t want to play hero, he doesn’t want to be seen as a useless kid, he never asked Teru to keep him in the dark and protect him. It hurt, to not be trusted with anything meaningful.
He knows taking care of the house is important but he doesn’t want to replace their mom. He wants to be by Teru's side, he wants to be dependable and respected too, which in the Minamoto household heavily connects with being a ‘good exorcist’.
He envies Teru for being a good exorcist.
Why wouldn’t he? Teru is praised and respected, Teru always smiles to not worry Kou, he paints his night patrols as fighting evil monsters, like the heroes on tv, and never vents about his rough nights.
Kou isn't stupid he must know from Teru's fucked up schedule and bruises that being an exorcist isn't easy. But since he isn't shown how it permanently beats people down, he only assumes Teru finds it 'too hard for him', which translated to 'Kou can't take it'.
Teru harsh words also hit were it hurt. It goes straight to Kou’s insecurities.
Teru can be cold but he takes his role as a big brother very seriously, so he understands his decisions had a negative effect on Kou. He is sad about it but he still doesn’t think he was wrong to keep Kou in the dark. So he doesn’t apologize, he tries to share his point of view, no sugar coating so the message sink in.
The problem is that Teru is horrible at words so instead of telling Kou his feelings and worries, try to make his line of thought something easy to follow, he shows it through actions. It feels needlessly aggressive to knock Kou’s staff off his hand and slam him on the train, but it is the way Teru knows how to express himself. It doesn’t make his behaviour any less bad, one of the worst ways to show his point of view on the matter, but is understandable from the way he grew up that this is his first instinct when he want to 'send a message'.
Calling Kou weak isn’t a payback moment or a power play, it’s what Teru genuinely believes in, is something he knows will hurt Kou and he is not happy about it. It’s why he never said it before, is why we can see his distress and frustration from how his mouth was drawn and his eyes are covered.
Tumblr media
His attempt to ‘protect’ Kou stunted Kou’s growth as an exorcist and made him weaker than he would have been if he was trained properly.
It was wrong of Teru to make this call, he was insensitive and careless too, he didn’t consider Kou’s feelings at all.
But is understandable. Being weak doesn’t have the same meaning to Teru as it does to Kou.
Teru envies Kou's weakness.
Kou also hid his feelings of inferiority and helplessness from Teru, greeting him with a bright smile, so of course Teru mostly sees the good side of being left behind on patrol: weakness is a lack of shackles, a lack of sleepless nights, and bloody family history.
Being a prodigy ruined Teru’s life. He can be a very efficient exorcist but he doesn’t know how to be a functional human being. A lot of what he did to protect Kou is him projecting, giving Kou what Teru wished he had.
Teru may be proud of his skills, arrogant even, but he knows his deep connection to exorcism made him colder and harder to deal with, alienating him from his peers in a way he didn’t want Kou to experience. He truly believes he is doing the right thing by leaving him in the dark.
Tumblr media
He never wanted to hurt Kou. Just like Kou didn’t want to hurt him.
But they did, they both fucked up.
In short: They have a huge communication problem, but they care a lot about each other, and I really need them to have another talk.

“Come back to me, I’ll wait for you.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Devastated and exhausted, you were still mourning losing Mitsuba a second time. You refused to get out of bed, and only did when Teru asked you to because your grades were a mess. Kou decided to show you the photos Mitsuba had took before. The incident. You tried spending most of your time with Yokoo and Satou, who didn’t really know why you were upset but still tried to comfort you. After the you did your part of helping them get rid of the hands, you thought you were done with supernaturals for the day. But when Kou dragged you off saying Yashiro had gone missing, and you needed to enter some boundary and he wanted you there. You kind of had to tag along. But unexpectedly, you find someone there.
Warnings: Cursing, reader feeling like shit (‘m sorry about that), comforting from Yokoo and Satou, Kou also sorta feeling like shit, your aunt trying to help you out of bed but still keep you safe, some angst again, etc,.
(A/N) : Last chapter of Act I!! Hope you enjoy it. I’ve been feeling like absolute shit these past few days so writing this to distract myself has made me feel so much better. I’m pretty sure this is proofread but if there’s anything wrong with it lmk!!
Prev. << Next end of Act I
Tumblr media
You couldn’t bring yourself to get out of bed, not for anything. Not even after the countless times Yokoo and Satou begged you to come, not after Yashiro came over to try and get you up, not even after your aunt talked to you about it.
You just couldn’t.
You’d spent more nights crying than you could ever count, and kept thinking back to that moment. The squelching noise, that scream. It all haunted you like there was no tomorrow.
Your aunt had to bring you in food, and make sure you actually ate it. She sat with you while you cried about it, and she hugged you through it. She even called in sick from work to stay at home just for a day to comfort you.
“Shhh.. hey it’s okay.” She tried to reassure for the nth time this day.
You didn’t seem to be getting better.
“It’s not okay! There should’ve been something I could’ve done! Something I didn’t do.” You cried into your pillow, eyes red and puffy from all your tears.
She pursed her lips, not knowing what to do to comfort you. Nothing seemed to help. All she could do was make sure you ate and drink a little water. And of course make sure you didn’t do anything stupid, she was still a bit paranoid from what happened.
Out of no where, there was a knock on the door.
“Ah.. I’ll go get it.” She said, giving you one last pitiful glance before heading downstairs.
“Hey is (Y/N) here?” You heard someone say.
“Yeah she’s upstairs in her room.” Your aunt replied.
“Okay thank you.” They answered.
You heard footsteps, and groaned.
“Look Yokoo, I already said I don’t want to get up—“
“It’s not Yokoo.” Teru chuckled.
He walked over to your bed and sat with you.
“You doing okay? You and Kou both seem really out of it.” He asked, moving his hand to rub soothing circles in your back.
“No.” Was all you could answer, knowing how he felt about spirits you knew you probably shouldn’t tell him why.
“Listen, you need to come back to school. Your grades are plummeting so bad right now, and your friends miss you a lot.” Teru explained, making you lightly chuckle.
“Great, thanks so much for adding more stress! I thought it was impossible but somehow you did.” You answered sarcastically with a sigh.
He only playfully rolled his eyes, “Look, if it helps anything—I’ll help you with your missing work.”
“Just please come back to school? We all miss you a lot. And I think both you and Kou could use some support.” He pleaded, his pretty blue eyes sparkled with determination to get you out of bed.
You groaned, falling back onto your bed.
“I don’t know..” you mumbled.
“I won’t try to exorcise Hanako for..” he paused “a few days.”
You snorted, shaking your head with a fond smile.
“Deal.”
He smiled.
“Okay. It’s only 9:20, so you still have time to get to school. Even if it’s late, don’t worry I’ll excuse you.” He assured, “so get ready and I’ll walk you to school.”
You sighed as you got out of bed, and he went to wait downstairs for you.
You got dressed, and went into the bathroom to wash your face and do the rest of your skincare routine so you didn’t look like you’d been crying so much, and after you were satisfied that you didn’t look like a total mess as bad, you walked downstairs to find Teru.
He was sitting on the couch, just scrolling around on his phone. You went to go out on your shoes, and swung your backpack over your shoulder. He turned his phone off and stood up.
“You ready?” He asked.
“Yeah.”
.
.
Teru walked you into the middle school divison, and quickly took you with him to the student council room.
“Hang on, wait one second let me just do something real quick.” He hummed, unlocking his computer and opened what seemed to be an attendance sheet and marked your name off as ‘excused tardy’.
“Okay, ‘m gonna go drop you off at class and tell the teacher that you were late cause of my fault.” He explained, already leading you towards your second period class.
He opened the door for you and allowed you in, and went to go whisper something to the teacher. Yokoo looked at you excitedly, and Satou smiled upon seeing you. You didn’t see Kou in his seat, so you assumed he was out with Hanako and Yashiro.
“What made you feel like getting up out of bed?” Yokoo asked curiously.
“Are you hungry? I have some sweets with me.” Satou asked, digging around in his backpack to look for said sweets.
“Teru dragged me out of bed.” You exaggerated with a sigh, leaning against Yokoo dramatically.
Satou just shook his head with a smile, and Yokoo played along pretending to catch you.
“Well did you sleep good at least?” Yokoo asked.
You paused for a moment.
“..Definitely.”
“Liar.” Satou sighed “Here, have some.” He said, offering you some of his sweets.
You took a few, thanking Satou.
“You seemed pretty down enough to not come to school for a few days.. you hadn’t been that down since Mitsuba—“ Yokoo stopped himself.
“Oh god, I’m so sorry.” He winced apologetically, realizing what he just brought up.
You pursed your lips, but you couldn’t get mad at Yokoo. You knew he and Satou were only worried and meant no harm.
“It’s fine, but can someone catch me up on what we’re learning? I’m a little lost.” You chuckled nervously, trying lighten up the mood—trying to forget about Mitsuba.
“Yeah, no problem!” Yokoo chirped.
Yokoo and Satou explained the lesson for you, letting you copy down their notes so you wouldn’t fall too behind. You groaned as you leaned back in your seat, already hating how much you missed in your absence.
“Where’s Kou by the way?” You asked, sitting back up after a few more moments.
“Oh him? All he said is he’d be busy, I don’t think he’s been in class at all.” Satou hummed.
“You should probably go see him, he didn’t look too good.” Yokoo suggested, kicking his feet lightly.
“I will after class.”
.
.
The bell had long since rung, and kids rushed out to their next class. Yokoo and Satou had said their goodbyes and told you they’d see you at lunch, so you were trying to get your stuff altogether.
“Don’t think of running off with those cockroaches.” Teru sighed as he waited by the door for you.
You jumped a bit, not really expecting him to wait for you after class.
“They aren’t cockroaches..” you mumbled, slinging your backpack over your shoulder and he gave you a look that said ‘are you sure about that?’.
You sighed, “Okay, maybe some are. But they aren’t all.” you tried to explain.
You paused, biting your lip a bit “But I’m not gonna do anything having to do with the supernatural anytime soon, so I won’t run off.”
Teru gave you a satisfied smile.
“Why are you even here? Are you going to make sure I don’t skip off to Hanako and the others or?” You trailed off.
“No,” Teru denied “I was actually here to pick you up.”
“I talked to the teachers and let them know you’d be with me for the rest of the day,” he hummed.
“Working on your missing assignments.”
You groaned as you made your way towards the door, looking at Teru with pleading eyes as if it would convince him to just let you go with the others. He smiled and shook his head fondly, leading you towards the student council room.
“Oh and by the way,” he said opening the door for you “I let Kou know you’re here so I’m sure he’ll stop by soon.”
“Soon like now?” Kou asked as he entered the student council room.
“I thought you’d stop by later but yeah, soon.” Teru confirmed with a hum.
“Can I borrow (Y/N)?” Kou asked, leaning against the doorframe.
“For what?” Teru asked.
“Something.” Was all Kou managed to mutter.
“No, sorry. After she finishes at least half of this work,” Teru emphasized, referring to the small stack of packets and papers that you thought to be your missing assignments “then you can take her for a bit.”
You groaned, flopping down on the seat in front of Teri’s desk.
“So mean.” Kou mumbled with a pout, walking out.
“So,” Teru cleared his throat, dropping a small stack of papers in front of you “let’s get started.”
You pouted with a whine, letting your head fall forward and hitting the desk in frustration.
.
.
The bell had rung a fourth time since you’ve gotten there, and it was now time for lunch.
“Well, your a little bit close to halfway done.” Teru mumbled holding up a pinch of the paperwork, holding it up to examine it.
Kou burst through the door, swinging it open.
“It’s lunch time now, and I’m pretty sure (Y/N)’s hungry.” Kou said, trying to indirectly hint if it was okay to borrow you now.
“Go ahead but be back right after.” Teru instructed, and you just pouted with a nod.
“Great,” Kou mumbled, grabbing hold of your wrist “will definitely—“ he sprinted out with you “not.”
Kou laughed a bit, but when he noticed you didn’t seem to even smile his expression dropped.
He came to a stop, at the staircase leading up to the roof, sitting down on a bench nearby.
“You doing okay?” Kou asked.
“Not really.” You muttered, sitting by him.
“Well I have something to show you.” Kou smiled, bringing something from his backpack’s front pocket.
He took it out gingerly, as if it was the most fragilest of glass and would break with even the slightest wrong look.
They were Mitsuba’s developed pictures.
“I had them printed out as soon as I could..” he whispered, though he didn’t know why if it was just the two of you “I already looked at them last night, but—“ his voice cracked a bit as he chuckled lightly “I thought you might want to see them too.”
He carefully handed the small stack of photos to you, and you—just as carefully—took them.
There were many pictures.
Some were meant to be funny, and others were genuinely beautiful.
Like when Kou got attacked by the mother cat when he tried grabbing one of it’s kitten’s. Or when Mitsuba took that photo of Kou while he was standing on his shoulders.
There were also some like the birds nest, and of some he took while in the school garden. But the one that made you tear up—
Was the one he took of you and Kou.
You grit your teeth in frustration, in anger—thinking back to that moment.
“I’ll make that asshole pay one way or another.” You say through a choked out sob.
Kou looked at you with a solemn face, pursing his lips before placing a comforting hand on your shoulder “And I’ll be there to help you when you do.”
You looked at him, and he looked at you. And for the first time since you both had met, you didn’t laugh at the eye contact. Instead, your eyes welled up with regretful tears, tears of grievance at its finest.
“Oh, there you two are!” Yokoo exclaimed gleefully, practically skipping towards you both as Satou trailed behind him.
“What’re you two weirdo’s doing?” Satou joked, sitting beside you as Yokoo sat on the other side of Kou.
Yokoo shot him a glare after realizing you and Kou were on the verge of tears, and Satou immediately took the hint that now wasn’t the time for that.
“Wanna tell us what’s going on?” Satou finally said after a few moments of silence.
Yokoo pursed his lips when he got no answer from either of you, so he spoke up too.
“Look, whatever you both are going through. You can tell us, you know that right?” Yokoo asked, but continued after still the both of you didn’t answer “Just know we’re here for you. Whatever you guys are going through, we’ll get through it altogether.” he looked over at Satou “Right, Satou?”
“Yeah of course. We’re all friends, and as friends we have to look out for each other.” Satou agreed with a hum.
There was a few more seconds of silence before anyone spoke again.
“You ever know that feeling…” you finally managed to croak out after a while longer “when you thought you finally found something you lost a long while ago, someon—“ you stopped yourself before continuing “something very special to you, and then for someone to just. Snatch it out of your hands?”
Kou lightly chuckled, but it came out sadder than he intended “And when you actually got to see another side of a person you just met, and got to know them better—only for them to disappear the next second?”
Satou and Yokoo exchanged glances, as if they were trying to communicate with each other to see what you guys meant by that. But they found themselves empty minded.
“I don’t necessarily understand,” Yokoo started, already hugging Kou to provide some sort of comfort “but I know whatever it is. It’s really tough for you to be feeling like this.”
“Yeah,” Satou confirmed, hugging you too, connecting with Yokoo to form a group hug “we’re your friends. And as your friends we wanna tell you that you don’t have to go through this alone.”
And just then, you broke down in tears, babbling about how you lost someone so special to you a second time and this time you’ll never get them back. Kou followed soon after, except he just silently cried.
“Shhh.. there, there.” Yokoo whispered “Let it all out.”
The two boys hugged you both as you cried, comforting you in silence.
“God you guys are the best.” You hiccuped with a small chuckle that came out more as a sob.
Satou smiled, and Yokoo just replied “We know.”
.
.
After a while longer, the bell rang again. You, Satou, Kou, and Yokoo had been talking, the two mostly trying to distract you guys from crying—trying to get a smile out of you.
From around the corner, Teru came and you groaned.
“C’mon, it’s time to get back to your missing work.” Teru hummed, leaning against the wall as he waited for you to get up.
You pouted, but got up and said your goodbyes.
“You didn’t actually eat,” Teru began as you started walking back to the student council room “did you?”
And as if on cue, your stomach rumbled, and you flushed out of embarrassment. Teru sighed, turning in a different direction.
“Let’s get you something to eat.. I think I might have a spare lunch in the office.” Teru explained.
And he did, luckily for you. After taking one bite, you almost immediately recognized it as Kou’s cooking—and practically gobbled up the rest of it.
“Woah, slow down your going to end up choking.” Teru laughed.
“But it’s Kou’s cooking!” You pouted, taking another bite “You could never.”
“Okay that was ONE time.” Teru groaned, remembering how he nearly burnt down their kitchen.
“Yeah, that ‘ONE’ time was a near death experience for me.” You sighed dramatically, making Teru smile.
“It’s good to see your somewhat better now.” He hummed.
“What do you mean?” You asked, taking one last bite of the delicious lunch Kou prepared.
“I mean, your not as gloomy right now as you were earlier.” He smiled, ruffling your hair.
You swatted his hands away from your hair, “Must’ve been the magic of Kou’s cooking.”
“Must’ve.” Teru agreed, “Now that I know you won’t be complaining about an empty stomach,” he dropped the rest of your missing assignments in front of you “we can finish this.”
“So mean to me.”
.
.
For the next few days you tried to get over it. But I mean, you couldn’t, really. If you thought losing someone the first time was hard, imagine losing them a second time. Yokoo and Satou tried to help too, they kept you busy, and Yokoo even found out some way to let you in his soccer practice to ‘blow off some steam’ as he put it.
“God, I don’t understand how you’re able to do this for what?” You asked, taking a sip from the water bottle Yokoo had given you, to which he replied “About an hour and a half.”
“I can’t even last ten minutes.” You chuckled lightly.
“But you’re distracted, right?” He asked, gently nudging you with his shoulder.
You smiled, “I am actually.”
He smiled right back, “Then that’s all that matters.”
“Now c’mon, let’s go back to practice—“ Yokoo got up and beckoned you towards him, when Kou came along “Sorry Yokoo but I REALLY need to borrow. (Y/N) for a bit.”
“Okay, see you later then (Y/N).” Yokoo exclaimed as he ran back to the rest of his teammates.
“See ya!” You shouted after him.
“What is it?” You asked, turning around to Kou.
“There’s a bunch of hands, just popping around everywhere.” Kou explained “Hanako suggested we play with them so they’ll go away, so far it’s worked.”
“What is that have to do with me?” You sighed.
Kou gave you a playfully glare, rolling his eyes fondly.
“We could use the extra hands.” He hummed, making you chuckle a bit.
“Don’t you already have a lot?” You joked. “Need more hands to get rid of the extra hands.” You snorted.
“Well will you help?” Kou asked, he paused before adding “I know you’re trying to take a break from anything supernatural right now but we could use the help.”
You thought about it for a second, but gave in when you saw the pleading look in his eyes.
“Fine.” You sighed, making Kou cheer.
.
.
“That should be the last of them!” Hanako exclaimed, jumping around in the air excitedly.
“Whew.” You say, slumping against one of the bathroom stall doors.
Out of no where, a hand appeared from the bathroom mirror, and Yashiro approached it.
“Just one left!” Yashiro informed, looking back at it.
“That actually wore me out..” Hanako whined, making you chuckle “one of those guys hit me.”
You ‘coughed’, “Sounds like a major skill issue.” which earned you a playful glare from Hanako.
“Most of the pictures are all cleaned up too.” Kou confirmed, flipping through the yearbook.
“Wait..” Kou paused “now that I look at it.. you’re wearing a different uniform in this picture.”
“That’s from last year!” Yashiro chirped, looking over Kou’s shoulder to see better “When I was in middle school.”
“Cool!” Kou exclaimed.
“But wow,” he then continued “these are really good pictures.”
“Yeah! We had a kid from the photography club take them,” Yashiro hummed “I’m pretty sure his name should be on the last page.”
You and Kou gave each other a hesitant look, and you walked over to check too. And there it was.
Mitsuba Sousuke.
Out of no where, the hand from the mirror grabbed Yashiro’s wrist, and she hummed “What is it?”
“Have you decided what you want to pl—“ the hand cut her off, a mouth morphed onto its figure.
“Come to this side.”
It began to drag her inside the mirror.
“Yashiro!” Both Hanako and Kou panicked.
“Hanako!” Yashiro managed to yelp out.
Said ghost boy quickly got up “Grab my—“ but it was too late, his fingers just barely skimmed hers as she was sucked into the mirror like some type of portal.
“She’s…” Kou paused.
“gone.” I mumbled, and as if on cue—a droplet of water fell from the sink faucet.
Panicked, Kou got up and shouted “I’m coming Yashiro!” As he tried to force himself through the mirror.
“Kid! Stop it kid! Bad kid!” Hanako yelled, grabbing Kou from under his arms to pull him away from the mirror, making you giggle a bit at the way Hanako was referring to Kou as ‘kid’ “Don’t break the mirror!”
“That’s a boundary..” Hanako began to explain “specifically number 3’s”
“School mystery number three?” Kou asked.
“Yes.” Hanako muttered in agreement.
“I mean there’s a really only one supernatural mirror leading to this place—“ Hanako got interrupted.
“The hell of mirrors, right?” You asked “I don’t know how I know that but I do.”
“Yeah, so it has to be this one.” Hanako informed before sighing “I would like to go with her immediately but..” he paused.
“To put it simply, when you go into number 3’s boundary it attacks you.. with things you don’t want to see. Things you’re afraid of.” He looked at you both before continuing “In other words, the strength of the boundary changes based on who’s inside. If I’m not careful, I could make it stronger just by going I’m there.”
But you and Kou weren’t really paying attention, you were both looking at the yearbook Mitsuba had taken pictures for.
“Hey have you two been listening to me at all?” Hanako whined, grabbing onto your shoulders.
In a panic, Kou shut the book at faced him “You were telling us about how filthy your mind is sir!”
That alone made you burst into laughter as Hanako stared in disbelief, then muttered “Yeah well.. I won’t deny that.”
“We have to figure out what to do and fast.” Kou sighed, you felt bad seeing him look so worried for Yashiro’s safety.
“Yeah.” Hanako mumbled.
“Because number 3’s approach is most likely going to depend on what Yashiro is afraid of.” You mumbled, earning a shocked glance from Hanako which turned into a smirk.
“Hey you’re a quick learner aren’t you?” He teased “You caught on faster than Mr. Exorcist here.”
“I know you said you didn’t want anything to do with the supernatural or ghosts for a while, but I think Mr. Tsuchigomori might know something.” Hanako rambled.
“So can you please help?” They asked.
“Please?” Kou begged “For your favorite exorcist.”
“And your favorite apparition.” Hanako added with a sly grin.
“Who said you two were my favorites?” You asked sarcastically, but still smiled.
“Alright fine, but if he doesn’t know something I won’t be helping out.” You finally gave in.
Hanako and Kou both cheered, jumping around like children anxious to go trick-or-treating on Halloween.
.
.
Yashiro’s yelp seemed to echo aimlessly around the dimly lit room, hands began to sprout from the floor. She winced as she was met with something, something wet.
“Water!” She panicked, scrambling to her feet.
Little scale-like pieces began to emerge on her soft skin as she went on to see where she was at, or more so who’s boundary she was in.
Thump, thump, thump.
Footsteps? She thought, swiftly turning her head in panic that something dangerous might’ve been lingering in the dark.
“Hello?” she called, trying to see what she could in the dark room.
She saw a figure, one she thought was feminine, but upon closer examination she found it was a boy. More so, a middle school boy. His eyes looked a bit sunken, as the hands surrounded him. He tilted his head up, to look at her.
“Who are you?” She asked, tilting her head as well to get a better view of him.
Yashiro had a million questions running through her head, who was this boy? Was he a ghost? What’s he doing here? She was dragged out of her trance when said boy was towering over her.
Now that he was closer, Yashiro realized how he looked and a blush covered her face. His rosy eyes startled silently at her, before speaking up.
“You..” he called.
“Yes?” Yashiro panicked, standing up straight.
The boy looked left, then right, before sighing. His once innocent look was replaced with a taunting smirk.
“..have pretty fat ankles, huh?”
Yashiro froze in place, a bit dumbfounded that someone so adorable would say something so vulgar.
The boy sighed, crossing his arms.
“Aww, I thought someone was finally here to help me, but it’s just some horseradish..”
“I-I’m not a horseradish!” Yashiro retorted defensively with a pout.
“Yeah yeah whatever.” Mitsuba sighed.
Yashiro kept asking questions, and Mitsuba didn’t have any intention to answer much or any of them, so he walked to the door at the end of the corridor and opened it.
He then walked over to Yashiro and grabbed her by the little accessories on her belt. “This way.” He said.
“This is one of the boundary’s of the seven mysteries..” he explained after a while “the hell of mirrors.”
“Or..” he paused, stopping in his tracks to look at Yashiro with an unsure look “I guess that’s it’s name.”
“But that’s all I know.”
Yashiro looked around in amazement, everywhere she turned there were mirrors of different shapes, sizes, colors, and designs. But there was one thing they all had in common.
They all had an eerie feeling to it, it sent shivers down Yashiro’s spine.
“There’re mirrors.. everywhere.” She mumbled in awe.
“Yeah, I can see that Ms. Obvious.” Mitsuba sighed, playfully rolling his eyes.
But Yashiro wasn’t paying enough attention to care, she was too busy thinking.
“I’m Mitsuba.”
Yashiro made a small ‘huh?’ noise before turning to look at him.
“I’m stuck here and I have no idea to get out of this mess.” He complained, slumping down against the railings.
“Mitsuba? You’re..” she paused, eyeing him curiously “from the middle school division, right?”
“Are you a ghost? And..” she paused to look at him “have we met somewhere?”
“I..” he paused, swallowing the lump in his throat “don’t know.”
“Who cares? None of that matters now anyways.” He sighed, his rosy eyes flinched a bit, as if maybe trying to hold back tears.
“I guess we’ll have to get out of this place first! But..” she paused “why did you bring me here?”
Mitsuba didn’t say anything for a moment or two, clearing his throat and pointing at the hands still sprouting from the floor.
“Well I wanted someone who could help me,” he explained “so I asked them to find someone for me.”
The hands excitedly exclaimed a small “yeah!” popping around enthusiastically.
“Are they friends of yours, Mitsuba?” Yashiro asked sweetly, bending down to shake their hands.
Mitsuba scoffed with an offended expression.
“Are you suggesting I’m friends with my right hand??” He shouted “Would you please not be so vulgar!”
“I didn’t say they were right hands..” Yashiro mumbled, looking over at a few left hands.
“Besides..” Mitsuba sighed “the only friend I can remember, is..”
He looked at Yashiro and then away.
“Wait why am I telling you this?” Mitsuba scoffed.
“Who is it?” Yashiro asked.
“What do you mean?” Mitsuba replied, tilting his head a bit to show his confusion.
“Your friend,” she insisted “the one you could remember?”
“It’s..” he looked hesitant to tell her, but then thought she might know where to find her, so she gave in.
“Her name’s (Y/N)..” he whispered, Yashiro just managed to hear.
“(Y/N)?” Yashiro repeated.
“Yeah.. it’s kind of a weird story. I don’t know why she’s the only one I remember. I just remember waking up, no memory of anything or anyone.”
“Just her.”
Yashiro gave him a pitiful look, and put a hand on his shoulder.
“Well,” she began “first let’s get out of here. And then, I think I might have an idea of where she might be.” she said with a smile.
“Really?” He asked excitedly, shooting up from his slouching position.
“Of course.” Yashiro confirmed.
“Well then..” he mumbled, looking up at Yashiro, leaning his head down on his arms and batting his pretty eyelashes at her “will you help me out of here?”
Yashiro felt a pang in her heart, to her, Mitsuba looked like an innocent puppy. And when he saw that look of awe in her eyes, he knew his charm worked.
“I can’t make any promises,” she cleared her throat “but this isn’t my first time in a place like this. So I’m sure we can find our way out somehow.”
“God..” he smiled softly “thank you, Yashiro.”
Yashiro put her hand over her chest, her eyes tearing up dramatically as she gushed over him.
“What is it?” Mitsuba asked innocently.
“O-Oh..” Yashiro stuttered “it’s nothing!”
She turned her head away with a smile, and each time she wasn’t looking, Mitsuba made a face to mock her.
.
.
They continued to walk aimlessly around the boundary, looking at all the mirrors as they passed by.
“Mitsuba,” Yashiro spoke up after a while, uncomfortable with the silence “this is your first time in a boundary, right?” she then gave him a proud smile “Not to brag or anything, but this is my fourth time in one!”
“It is my first time..” Mitsuba admited “but—“
“Then as your upper-classman, or- err.. woman? Ill teach you all about boundaries!” She exclaimed excitedly, grabbing his sleeve-covered hand with her own.
———
After a while of Yashiro explaining the basic understanding of a boundary as they further explored the place, Mitsuba nodded and ‘okay’ed’ everything she said.
“Woah.” He mumbled in astonishment at the new information he was given.
Before Yashiro could make a proud remark, he snickered “You seem to know an awful lot about this for a living person.”
“Scary..” he said, backing away in ‘fear’ playfully.
.
.
The three of you made your way to the library where Mr. Tsuchigomori usually would be. Not giving him a chance to ask why you all are there, you begin to all try to explain at once.
“Wait, back up a few steps. One at a time.” He sighs, almost like a father telling his children to wait their turn to talk.
Before either you or Hanako get the chance to speak first, Kou beats you both to it—and explains the whole situation.
“Why are you even bothering me with this..?” Mr. Tsuchigomori groaned, rubbing his forehead as if it will soothe the annoying headache the three of you were to him.
“Because!” Hanako wailed “It’s been two hours since they took Yashiro! And I can’t get into number 3’s boundary!”
“Yeah!” You sighed with a pout, very much worried for your friend.
“The kids and I even tried begging on our hands and knees for number 3 to let us in! But it didn’t work!” Hanako cried, dramatically flapping his arms all over the place.
You smacked the back of his head “Stop that, we didn’t even go that far.” you groaned.
“But still! We would’ve if it meant number 3 would let us in!” Hanako wailed yet again, clinging to your sleeve.
“Please spider-face!” Kou finally exclaimed after seeing a moment from where he could talk.
The sudden name made you snort, clasping a hand over your mouth to stop yourself from bursting into laughter. Kou smiled, seeing as this had been the first time you’d smiled since the incident with Mistuba.
“It’s Mr...” Hanako corrected.
“Whatever! Mr. Spider Face!” Kou yet again exclaimed, clasping his hands together as if to beg, making you finally let your strained laughter flow from your lips.
“Yes! Please help us Mr. Spider Face!” You snickered, doing the same gesture as Kou, you both were now laughing maniacally at this point.
“You little..” Mr. Tsuchigomori sighed, you swore you saw his eyebrow twitching.
“I can’t let Yashiro get hurt..” Hanako spoke up, after having going silent for a while.
You and Kou both turned to him, confused by the sincerity in his voice. The Hanako you knew to be flirtatious and a pervert and sometimes even a jerk, being serious for once? It was a sight to see for sure.
“Tell me Mr. Tsuchigomori..” he uttered, finally looking up after staring at the seemingly more interesting floor for so long “won’t you help us?”
Even the disguised supernatural looked shocked to see the ghost so genuine, so with a sigh, he got up.
“Well, I do have an idea.” He hummed, walking over to a specific bookshelf.
He moved a couple of books to reveal Yako snoozing on the bookshelf. Effortlessly, he grabbed her, and tossed her over to Hanako—who luckily caught her. You, Kou, and Hanako looked down at the Nogitsune in Hanako’s arms.
“Number 2?” Hanako asked “Why?”
“Hear me out.” Mr. Tsuchigomori sighed, sitting back down at his desk “The seven mysteries boundaries each serve to oversee a certain aspect of the school.”
“My ‘book stacks’ manage records, the clock keepers manage ‘time’, and number 2 manages ‘space.” He explained “If you go through her boundary you can get pretty much anywhere in the school.”
“That includes number 3’s boundary?” You asked, looking down at Yako.
“Pretty much.” Mr. Tsuchigomori sighed.
“But I thought Yashiro busted up her boundary?” Kou asked.
“Oh Kou.. poor, sweet, dumb little Kou.” You snickered, making said boy glare at you, more like aggressively side-eyeing you.
Mr. Tsuchigomori shook his head with a fond smile, before continuing “Oh that.. all she really did was take her right to manage it. The boundary itself is still existing. But with its overseer gone.. it’s probably a mess.”
“Isn’t that right echinococcus?” He snickered, making the latter snap up with a growl.
“Shut up emo spider!” Yako retorted, making you snicker.
“Emo spider..” you snorted in an almost whisper.
“And why should I even help you! I could care less what happens to your assistant!” Yako crossed her arms, turning her head with a ‘hmph!’.
“Beecause we’re your favorites?” You asked hopefully, but she didn’t seem to budge.
“Kitsune udon.” Hanako spoke, holding up his butcher knife as if to threaten her.
“Huh?” Yako gasped offendedly “I- It’s not even my problem!”
“Udon.”
“Fine..” Yako finally huffed, knowing Hanako wouldn’t go through with it—but still wanted to help him out.
.
.
.
“Let’s see…” Yako hummed, walking towards the bottom of the stairs.
“This is it right?” Kou asked.
“You’re kidding right?” You asked in disbelief, giving Kou a ‘are you stupid?’ look.
“Hey I was just making sure!” Kou whined, elbowing you in the side, which resulted in you two giggling and playfully shoving each other.
“Here we go!” Yako sung, breaking your guys’s laughter “One,” one at a time you were taking steps up the stairs “two,” and another “three..”
“Four.”
Tumblr media
The Misaki Stairs were nothing new to you, you had come here with the trio before in search for Yashiro’s friend, Aoi. And hearing that it had been all out of whack since Yashiro destroyed it’s yoshiro, you weren’t surprised to look out into the distance and for the large empty void to be staring right back at you.
Though it was filled with pretty flowers to the brim, and sunny skies something still felt off. Like something was out of place.
“It’s..” Hanako marveled, staring out in disbelief.
“Woah!” Kou grinned, looking around like a child trying to pick which ride to go on first at an amusement park “It’s so pretty now!”
“Yeah..” you murmured, not being able to shake off the eerie feeling it gave you, but seeing as the other two seemed at ease—you tried your best to forget about it.
“I’ll show you to number 3’s boundary,” Yako hummed, now in human form “just keep up.”
The “click-clack” and “tut-tut” of your shoes against the stairs as you climbed was the only thing to fill the silence. You looked down from the stairs, only to be met with a void. It was empty. So empty it made you shiver, so you moved your focus elsewhere. Perhaps towards the flowers at the bottom of the stairs…
“Hey fox lady?” Kou finally spoke up, breaking the deafening silence.
“What do you want stupid brat?” Yako spat, not turning back to even glance at him as he spoke.
“You know how before your rumor changed and you went totally crazy?” Kou asked, making you widen your eyes at the insensitive comment and elbow his side, making him glare at you as he winced “and you attacked me and the other students.”
“You like bringing up unpleasant memories, don’t you?” Yako scoffed, but you didn’t miss the way she winced at the mention of the things she had done before “What’s your point?”
“Oh it’s just.. I was wondering what that felt like.” Kou mumbled, now feeling unsure if it was okay to ask, though he felt the need to.
“What? Why would you wanna know that?! Talk about poor taste!” Yako yapped, turning to glare at Kou “I knew Misaki was the only human worth answering! The rest are lower than insects!”
Feeling a bit of pity, and knowing how curious he must have been cause you were too you placed a gentle hand on Kou’s shoulder and spoke. “Hey, give him a break. I understand what he said might have been a tad insensitive but..” you paused, looking down at the ground “recently, we had a friend of ours go a bit berserk after his rumor changed. And we- I mean Kou’s just curious if when your rumor changed, was it still you?”
“They’re kinda like you, huh number 2?” Hanako chuckled, but Yako kept her back to you three.
“Well..” Yako finally murmured as you all continued up the steps “it didn’t feel good, at least when I look back at it now. But..” she paused, and she looked unsure if she should continue, but when she looked at you two who were listening so intently, she couldn’t help but continue “It was definitely me. It was just a side of me that I kept bottled up, and it was forced out of me. That’s all.”
“Okay..” Kou mumbled, clearly unsure. You didn’t miss how his eyes shifted back down to the yearbook in his hands, and you patted his shoulder, as if to tell him I know how you feel.
“So if you tried to say something to your friend, even if he didn’t understand it, it still probably reached him.” That alone gave Kou hope, maybe. Just maybe, that last encounter with Mitsuba, he was able to talk to him.
“It doesn’t matter how warped he is.” Yako continued, seeing how he seemed a bit confused “or even if he changed form or shape.”
“That boy.. is still that boy.”
Just as you were about to ask a question of your own, Yako and Hanako—who were walking in front of you, stopped walking. “We’re here.” Yako announced.
“I assume our chat is over?” She hummed in more of a question, but then added “We’ve arrived, number 3’s boundary is straight through here.”
“Is that a mirror?” Kou asked, poking the frame.
“I don’t know.. looks kind of eerie to me. Hanako mumbled, floating above it as he exclaimed it closely.
“Yeah.. I mean..” you murmured, running your finger along the glass when you felt a force pulling you in.
You let out a surprised yelp as you were engulfed by the mirror’s glass, leaving the three in disbelief.
“Just so you know.. I’m not going further than here.”
Tumblr media
You landed in some unknown place with a “oomph”, the place was filled with mirrors. You heard a loud yelp in what you could have only recognized as Yashiro’s voice.
“Oh right, your supposed to be nice to girls.”
You turned with teary eyes from the bright light that filled the room to find the voice, and you felt yourself freeze when you realized it was Tsukasa.
The ghost, no. The vicious supernatural who tore Mitsuba from you.
You watched as Yashiro fell to ground in deep slumber, she looked awfully peaceful given the circumstances and situation they were in. When Tsukasa got up, your eyes wandered to where Mitsuba was at.
“Now, time for you to eat up Mitsu!” Tsukasa chirped, his voice was sickeningly sweet but it made shivers run down your spine, as he held what looked like to be a heart in his hands.
“No, NO! PLEASE, NO!” Mitsuba cried, trying to back away from the entity.
Mitsuba’s eyes widened in shock when he noticed you were there, and you didn’t miss that hopeful glint in his eyes when you made eye contact, hopeful that you would save him.
“(Y/N)!” He cried, trying to get Tsukasa’s bloodied hands off of him, tears streaming down his soft skin “PLEASE, HELP ME!”
You don’t know what came over you, but you found yourself rushing over in attempt to strangle Tsukasa, but he threw you off of him effortlessly.
“Get—“ you coughed “GET AWAY FROM HIM!”
Tsukasa looked unfazed, his expression void of any emotion but it still made you shake with fear, not of what he would do to you, but of what he would do to Mitsuba.
“Now, eat up.” Tsukasa mumbled, his voice was low, and sounded inhumane. Distorted and horrifying. You wanted to get up, fight Tsukasa, and save Mitsuba. But this was no fairytale, so with a pounding headache—you watched as Tsukasa forcefully fed Mitsuba what you thought to be number 3’s heart, due to the entity that laid lifeless beside them with teary eyes.
You began to cry, feeling helpless. Tsukasa got up, walking towards you. You saw as Mitsuba looked distorted too, but he was still Mitsuba nonetheless.
“No-NO! PLEASE DON’T HURT HER! I’LL DO WHATEVER YOU WANT JUST PLEASE—“
A loud “WHAM” shook the room and two boys you could only recognize as Hanako and Kou came crashing down screaming like little girls. Kou was the first to get up, his eyes wandered to your shaking form, but you weren’t crying out of fear of Tsukasa—who he saw standing in-front of you—but when he followed your eyes to where they wandered, he realized why.
“..Mitsuba..?”

Hiiii mikey! Could I request separate headcanons of yandere Tsukasa and Mitsuba with a smart soft cute shy fragile s/o? I just need some fluff in my life 🥹
Feel free to ignore I just thought you were bored so have a good day!
Yandere! Tsukasa & Mitsuba with a smart but shy Darling
Ofc sorry for the wait♥︎
I sadly failed to make it very yandere im sorry i read the word yandere at the end of writing
Tumblr media
He actually very much liked you.
It was fun to tease you around because of how shy you were
You two are a cute couple if you ignore Tsukasa‘s possessive behaviour
He didn’t like it when Sakura Natsuhiko or Mitsuba talked to you for too long
He sometimes doesn’t even realise that he is jealous
So if you end up talking for too long with someone, it can even be your classmates. He will start standing next to you and eventually hug you wanting for you to make an excuse to leave the person early
If you do end up leaving. Then- hooray! He is do happy as he started to give kisses all over your face
If you don’t. Then he will start to get a little more annoyed and telling you to hurry or else things might get messy
He wishes he could just kill everyone in this school but he knows it would traumatise you and you wouldn’t return his affection
I headcanon that he once heard sakura or natsuhiko talk about a certain „popular handsome guy“ named teru, who made everyone love him,
Something about this made tsukasa…worry?
Sounds weird for him to worry am i right?
What if that prince boy will also make you fall in love with him???
You can’t!!! He is your boyfriend and your eyes should be only on him
He thought he will end Teru if he will cause too much trouble
(I can totally see him one time wanting to attack teru bit accidentally attacked kou instead. Rip kou 😭)
Tsukasa is definitely the type to be by your side 24/7
No matter how smart you were,You mostly always gave in for his hugs and affection in general because your soft personality just couldn’t say no to him
He without hesitation killed people 100% if they ever abused your weakness
He loves that you love him even if he can’t leave the school
𖣯
„S/OOOOOOOOO let’s do something“
„Oh no oh no oh no oh- o-Oh! Tsukasa!!! You startled me“
You said sighing in relief that its just him, your reaction confused him obv
„ne S/o why were you panicking a second ago??? Did something bad happen???“
„Oh its just.. one of my classmates asked me if i could help them with homework and..since im smart they came for help to me and-and i dont know if i should say yes or no…“ you answered shyly
„No! Of cours not!“ he quickly replied „you don’t have time to help dumb people like them!!! You need to hang out me right now and not them!“ he said sounding pretty annoyed but his face kept a smile which was pretty unsettling
„Alright ill say i can’t today..“
He definitely asks you who wanted to do homework with you and then kills him at the end
Tumblr media
When he first met you
He thought you were weird for being so shy
Are you trying to copy him with you cuteness?
Because he accidentally fell for you-
And when i say he fell for you, then i mean he fell for you 𝚑𝚊𝚛𝚍𝚕𝚢
Would ask tsukasa and natsuhiko to help him so that you can see him(unless you already can)
He would take so many pictures of you, wether its you eating your lunch, talking with someone, or accidentally falling asleep in class
Oh btw i probably totally forgot to say this but Mitsuba HATES it when you talk with someone else
He wants all your attention on him, might try to guilt trip you by saying
“please stay with me s/o…you’re the only one who can see and hang out with me *insert puppy eyes*”
It is hard for him to confess tbh
But he will probably eventually confess first considering he knows your shyness will prevent you from confessing first
He would ask you stuff that he knows that you 100% know.
10% him paying attention 90% him looking at you while you’re talking/explaining to him
When he finally confesses and you accept he will be so overjoyed
I mean its not like he expected something else- he totally knew you’d accept such a cute boy like him😙🫶
There is a small chance that he would kill anyone, he definitely considers it when he feels jealous, but he does not want to distance yourself from him because you found out how obsessed he is over you
He found most likely just make them trip or get them in trouble. Or maybe just scare them to stay away from you
You would probably be upset that almost noone talks with you anymore for some reason. But hey…
You have him,and you don’t need anyone other than him♡︎
𖣯
„s/oooo…you will stay at school this night too right?“
„Oh i-i don’t know mitsuba…i have do much stuff to do an-„
„Pleaaaaase“
„B-but kou-kun might be upset if i wont come since we-„
„Kou??…tch that lame ass boy with trafficker on his ear??? Why the hell do you spend time with him in the first place?!“
„Well i-„
„it doesn’t matter, you’re staying because i said so“
You are eventually not able to escape his grasp and you ended up apologizing to kou for not being able to come
Tumblr media
Thank you for your wonderful request! I hope i left you satisfied. Please visit again! ♥︎

When he saw you beat up some delinquents at the back of the school his mouth was agape
YOU WERE SO COOL
Not only that you were so kind~
You had a heart of gold, it was hard to believe that someone so soft and kind looking can beat your ass in a second
and uh
Very gullible and a starting lack of sense-
He once joked about that those frogged designed cakes are made out of frogs
And you believed it
HUH?? he would say
Another is when Yokoo lied about saying he was Spidermans cousin
You also believed it
He asked you if you ACTUALLY believed these things
He would be startled when you say yes
He will now stay by your side 24/7 because he just cant trust you with other people with how gullible you are
Even though he knows you're very strong and can defend yourself
He also wants to keep his S/O safe too
Tumblr media
You were so kind and had a heart of gold
He instantly fell inlove with you because of that !
You two were walking around the school and naughty supernaturals appeared
He brings out his staff but before he could lunge at them
You kicked one of them super hard that caused a crack on the wall from impact
He would stare at you how he stared at tsucigomori when it was the 5pm library chapter in the manga
He absolutely does not know how to react
Should he admire you from your amazing strength, Or be worried that what if you missed it and you got hurt
YOU WERE SUPER COOL HE WOULD LOVE TO LEARN TRICKS FROM YOU
So you did
You started teaching him
When you two were done he said "Man i think im gonna die" As a joke from the intense training
He saw you freak out and started asking why
And thats when he knew how gullible you were
Meaning you believed everything
Not only that he also noticed your lack of common sense
Would follow you corner by corner making sure that no idiot will make up a lie that might harm his lovely S/O
Tumblr media
She had a hard time approaching you
why?
You had this very, Cold and Distant personality
She thought you were gonna bark at her if she disturbed you
But surprise it was the complete opposite!
She got to know you because of a partering up activity
Shocked because someone with a very aloof personality was this kind
Once when someone was messing with herbecause of her ankles
You came to her rescue and-
kicked them down the stairs...
She was shocked cause you kicked them a bit to hard
Grabbed your hand and ran
RUN GIRL
She was surprised of your strength
Wish she was that strong
You two were talking on the rooftop about a magazine with a guy failing from the sky
While she was flustered, You got concerned and started looking up
when she asked what you were doing you said that maybe someone will fall from the sky
Your lack of common sense scares her sometimes...
Tumblr media
When i tell you he will notice your lack of common sense right away i mean it
It was a normal day at the student council when he said that his hands are gonna fall out if he keeps on typing which freaked you out
He looked at you and you started tapping his hand
He asked what you were doing and you said that you were taping his hands because it might fall out.
Excuse me?!?!?
He will soon explain that he didn't mean it literally, and it was just a metaphor on how tired his hands were
This guy will also notice how easy it was to persuade you
He would take it as an advantage sometimes
He would tell you that the president, Teru, Loves to put salt in his drink because it was tastier
The day ended with a coughing teru and a laughing akane
But of course he wouldn't use you to commit these little mischief for him
He would protect you, He just doesn't trust any of the students around you
Haha he would chase some of them with a bat
He loves you very much, and he knows that you know about that
Tumblr media
I hope i got Yors personality and how she acts correctly 😭

"Kou shouting <I will save you, (fake) mitsuba.> Is really starting to get annoying.
Why do you want to save him and from what?
He is not your real friend mitsuba, he is a cheap copy of him. Why are you running after a copy? If the real one saw that, would he be happy? To see you running after a fake copy of him?
Real mitsuba was a weak ghost fated to fade away in a short time. *He* went to Tsukasa and askd him to grant him a wish for him not to disappear too soon and for others to remember him and Tsukasa did, resulting in kou and real mistuba to meat and spend time together and become friends that moment. Kou didn't even remember him while his other friend did. I feel sorry for real mitsuba. It's really thanks to Tsukasa for the 2 becoming friends in the first place. If Tsukasa wasn't there, kou would still be like he was at the very start of the manga, knows nothing about that guy who is called mitsuba or whatever. The 2 should thank Tsukasa that they became friends and got to spend time together.
Then, Tsukasa realised mitsuba's real wish is to have a friend, so he changed his rumor and made him become strong so he can stay in the far shore. The more scary his rumor is, the more he will stay in people's memories, the more he will get to stay in the far shore, instead of fading away. Real Mitsuba tried to kill kou to make him stay with him forever in the far shore. When you're desperate to have a friend (in real mitsuba's case), you will be ready to do anything, you will even kill your friend to make him just like you so you can be together forever. But... it failed miserably and he ended up gone for good. You failed to save him kou... from his own desire and wish that is.
The best thing to do in this case kou, is to live to the memory of your friend. He died in an accident after all. You should accept he is dead, just like how you did with your mother, just like his own mother accepted his death. Keep your friend in your memories. Be the friend he wanted to have. A friend that will see him as his friend and remember him. That would make him happy.
Good thing Tsukasa took the price of the wish before... He can now try to make the thing he wanted to try making for so long. He made an artificial human. Kou has no place to go and say he is going to save him from Tsukasa. Really? Are you going to save him from the one who made him? And again, back to the very first question I asked: who is fake mitsuba? Why do you want to save him and from what? He is only a weak ghost, he is not your friend, the 2 are completely different persons. The same goes for No.3 and fake mitsuba, even though the fake has his powers, he is not the original no.3 as a person. He just took his place and powers. fake mitsuba and real mitsuba are not the same, they are not the same person and they will never be, real mitsuba lived and died as a human, while fake mitsuba is a creation born in the far shore by using weak spirits to form it, a creation Tsukasa made using a piece of real mitsuba's soul. It's an ingredient as all the others, one that Tsukasa has every right to use because he earned that thing, as a price for granting a wish. Why are you ignoring that kou? You're going to save a creation from the one who made it? Tsukasa should really go to the police and tell them this man is after something I myself created and he has nothing to do with it, careful kou. Any other things you want to save this fake copy from? It's truth maybe? That it's only a low level and weak spirit that belongs to the far shore? Thist it was never alive before? You want to make become alive in the human world or something? Explain that <I will save you>. It's like telling a cat I will save you from being a cat! What does that even mean? and also, it's not like Tsukasa keeps fake mitsuba as a prisoner or something, he is free to go wherever he wants, he chose to stay with Tsukasa and the other 2 working with him.
Stop being foolish kou and open your eyes to reality, or at least, instead of shouting <I will save you> do something about it. We need actions kou, not only words. Grow up kou." submitted by Anon.

So… I've been wondering about a question to ask you about your boy for so long. And I finally managed to get one! YAY! 😄
The qusetion is:
Let me know your "Top 5 favorit quotes of your boy until now." 🍀
Yay!! I'm so happy! I really like your question!! Thank you for it! 😆 I have one quote with a pilot. Hope that also matters😁
Ch.36
"just being shown that someone is thinking of him. I think that would make him happy"
Tumblr media
I just love how he pretended to be goofy, but it shows that he took Kou's pain seriously.I really think about him a lot and he would be 100% very happy. I just know there was a smile on his face just because I'm thinking about him. It was such a small thing that would make my little boy happy.
2. Ch.20
"Death is the end. You become a spirit and wander the near shore ... but that's not continuation of life. Once you died,it's over. There nothing after that. You can't go anywhere from there. Doesn't how deep your regrets are,or how much you wish to things was different. If you couldn't do something in life... you can't do it after you're dead[...] You can't be so kind to the dead because we have no future"
Tumblr media
I skipped what Amane said to Kou about Mitsuba. He was telling the truth here because he described his own pain in this way through the pain of Mitsuba, who also couldn't pursue his dream and also after death cannot do it. Mitsuba and Amane are similar in terms of grief and dreams, although the situation of their deaths is different. Amane perfectly described his own pain and Mitsuba's. No matter how much Amane regrets or how much he would like to do otherwise, there is no chance of it. Death is the end, not the beginning. This is so real. My boy just showed that he really regrets what he did. This is really something to read from his words. I want his happiness so much.Yes, I want him to be lucky. I love him so much and I know he is a good kid and he deserves the best and all that is good!
3.Ch.0.3(pilot chapter)
"You have to treat girls nicely"
Tumblr media
He is my beloved gentleman!!🥰 He's so cute knowing he's knows to be good with girls . …..that's my boy😆
4.Ch. 14
"Sensei! The moon is already out! Have you ever wanted to go to the moon, sensei? Well... I have. The moon is so big and beautiful. Maybe that's why I just I feel like it's gotta be really great place"
Tumblr media
I love so much how much and how much passion Amane has for space and the moon. He loves the cosmos so much, his passion is so fascinating and he believed that someday people would be able to fly to the moon and he was right, but he gave up his dreams and how much he loves the moon, the cosmos for the purpose of killing his brother. So sad … boy … my sweet boy was giving up his dreams for this one purpose for a reason. Give him luck AidaIro! He has suffered a lot already!
5.Ch.5
"the scary ones are muuuuuch more likely to make an impression, Am I right?"
Tumblr media
Yes my Amane You;re totally right!!!! This is really true. Terrible things are more remembered than good ones … Amane here gives the same facts again!
This my top 5!
but I want tell you more!! I'm sorry I can't end up like this! Others quotes
6.Ch.39
"Give me a candy"
Tumblr media
Well … give me a candy yeah !! haha !! I like it even though amane was sick here by the mokke, but it's so real. Candies are good!
7.Ch.2
"I am one of this school's seven mysteries. I can't let dangerous supernatural killers stay. I have no choice but to exterminate them. It my duty supervise all supernaturals in the school and maintain proper relationships between us and humans"
Tumblr media
He keeps order, but he also has to fulfill wishes. He not only keeps the school paece, but he looks so badass and more cool here, and he really said in a really cool way.
Thank you for the ask! As usual, I'm out of control, but I can't help it. Hope you don't mind

Ch 99: random thoughts.
Tumblr media
Hey, cool. It's good to be here again!
Tumblr media
Yes, yes, right!
Tumblr media
Ok, well... this very first thing rises some huge red flags... the day of the severance??? That day... then... after Mitsuba 2.0 turned into pieces... Tsukasa went to the room he was in with Kou and that other one? So... was Tsukasa affected by the severance? I mean... shouldn't he turn into glasses as well and then disappear?? Yet.. he went to Mitsuba 2.0 and took him... to the red house or whatever that room is, I assume??? Then, he knew about what was going to happen to Mitsuba 2.0 because of the severance in advance... -For fun-
Tumblr media
............
Tumblr media
It seems Aida really enjoys drawing Tsukasa like this.. in front of doors.. looking a bit scary. And... lol...Tsukasa has officially become Mintsuba 2.0's mom or something? Mama Tsukasa walked through the door to give chick Mitsuba 2.0 his food... how cute. Wait... something is wrong about it... ah... his food is... ah...
Tumblr media
I see... Tsu is feeding him all that so he can stay longer. Makes sense.
Tumblr media
Ladies and gentlemen, let's welcome Mama Tsukasa together.
It's really something for Tsukasa to be able to read other's hearts... like... Mitsuba 2.0: I don't want that. Tsukasa: Trsut me you do, stop lying. Even your face says it all. Now... I am having this on my mind...
Tumblr media
Mistuba there is making a nice face to you right, Tsukasa? Hmm....
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ah... the truth hurts, huh?
Tumblr media
I feel bad for him... it's like... a living hell in his eyes...
Tumblr media
And... this is heart-breaking... the boy just wants to rest. He is tired of everything. As if... he lost hope for even that wish he made. He just wants to be gone. He looks so miserable.
Tumblr media
How come he knows Kou's address? From where did he get it? Also, the very first and only time he came face to face with 'Kou's brother' he said the 2 are similar.. but didn't make the connection they are brothers.. but now he knows.. he knows they are from an exorcist family.. he knows Teru is stronger in that in comparison to Kou.. it seems he gained lots of information during the time.
Tumblr media
Kou... really? If you can take it down that easily... why didn't you do it sooner instead of hiding? This is... stupid.
Tumblr media
Never expected Kou to act like that... why so aggressive? Give the pitiful creature a break.
Tumblr media
OPEN YOUR MOUTH! Now, say "AHHH"! 🤍 Oh... Tsukasa is way nicer I see... hmm-hmm. Mama Tsukasa is the best.
And... wohoo... even the hearts are... the heart Kou got is so small... funny and looks weak -lame as Mitsuba 2.0 says it-... while the one Tsukasa got... oh... it gives some 'strong' energy.
Tumblr media
Now, why do you need to hold back? It's... about your need for 'food', whether it was supernatural food or human food, it's 'food', your food, the food you need to survive.. it's not a crime. I don't think Tsukasa will like this too much, he is not against your need for 'food', you know... it's normal. At the end of the day... everybody needs food to keep on living.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hmm... Kou... this is really a stupid question... why would he 'trust' you so much? You even made a comparison between yourself and Tsukasa? really? All you did for him was nothing until now.. while Tsukasa did so much... and you ask why? Well, sorry to break it to you but.. you're no match for Tsukasa in anything, Kou. You should know that. Don't try to compete with him because no matter what, you will end up losing.
Tumblr media
And... ah... it's all over the place with these 2... Each of them keeps going in circles with their decisions... *I don't want to! -a moment later- I want to! I want that! I don't want that! I will do it! I don't want to do it!* oh... put an end to that thing... make your choice.
Tumblr media
Oh... boy... It seems Kou has finally reached his limits. Now, I think I'm starting to get interested to see how things would go with Kou, Mistuba 2.0, things between the 2 of them, put Tsuaksa in the mixture, too.. yeah.. Hmm... maybe after this... Kou will change some of his life standards on regard of supernaturals and all. Maybe.. finally, he will get that Tsuaksa is not what he thinks he is, and go apologize to him. -Tsukasa doesn't need for that to happen, but I think I need it.-
------- Now... about Mitsuba 2.0... he is really in a tough situation. To keep on being there for another day he has to eat supernaturals or even humans... he sees himself as a monster because of that and wants to be gone for good and rest, because all he wanted was to become a normal human... and this is far away from being a human or normal to him... so... really... his situation needs a solution really fast.
It's either he accepts who he is. With that, he will see his 'food' normal and keep on going. Or, it's to choose to be gone for good, whether by being exorcised or by asking Tsukasa himself to like... undo him, just like he made him in the first place. I wonder why didn't he do that in the first place... why didn't he ask Tsukasa to do so, maybe he feared Tsukasa won't agree to his want?
Now... talking about Tsukasa... he really has to find a way out of this. He is the one who made Mitsuba in the first place. He has to take responsibility for that and take care of him. Either make him 'really' accept who he is, or destroy him and let him rest or really try hard to grant his wish to become human. Try your hardest to make it come true, or I don't know... try any other method to solve the problem... find a solution to save your creation from his misery. It's your duty, Tsukasa.
Tumblr media
He can't keep on going like this.
////// Anyway, Tsukasa in the next chapter:
Tumblr media
Like... did Mitsuba 2.0 go to Kou's place on his own or does Tsukasa and the other 2 know about it? I think Tsukasa will be sad if Mitsuba decided to end everything without a word to him.
------ So, yeah... maybe... Tsukasa will show up in the next chapter... maybe ch 100 will live to the expectations I held for very long ago...during the past year.

kou x mitsuba thing i wrote because i love them (but it’s more implied than direct)
it sorta takes place after ch 97 but things are normaler than they would be in canon
Kou was trying to stay undetected as he followed Tsukasa. The ghost was humming a tune as he floated along, and the exorcist tried not to be spotted as either of them turned corners. But as Tsukasa rounded a bend, he saw a bit of yellow duck behind the wall and backtracked a bit to find Kou standing against the wall.
“Hey, it’s Amane’s friend! How’s he doing? And what are you doing here?”
Kou was paralyzed for a moment, but he regained his cool, saying, “Hanako’s doing well, he likes having Nene around. And uh, you’re Mitsuba’s friend, right? Do you know where he is right now?”
Tsukasa smiled. “That’s good! Mitsuba is in his boundary playing around. Did you need him for something?”
“No, it’s fine. Do you think you could give this to him later?” Kou asked, holding out a white envelope with Mitsuba’s name on it.
Tsukasa took the envelope, inspecting it. He then smiled. “Sure! I’ll make sure Mitsuba gets it!” He then floated off, and Kou breathed a sigh of relief.
Tsukasa went into the recording room and floated over to Sakura, who was currently being bothered by Natsuhiko.
“But my lady-“
“No.”
“But it’s just-!“
“No. Go play with him.”
Natsuhiko looked over, noticing Tsukasa’s presence. The ghost smiled and waved, envelope in hand.
“Hey, runt, where’d you get that?” Natsuhiko asked, taking the envelope.
“The exorcist boy gave it to me. He said to give it to Mitsuba when he comes back. I wonder what’s in it.”
Sakura stood up, walking over to Natsuhiko and Tsukasa.
“May I see that?” she asked, beckoning to the envelope.
Natsuhiko promptly handed it over. “Anything for you, my lady.”
Sakura promptly slapped him across the face. “Idiot,” she mumbled as she turned over the letter, looking at the messy handwriting that spelled out Mitsuba’s name.
“And this is from the exorcist boy, the one Nene is friends with, correct?”
“Yep! He gave it to me in the hallway.”
Sakura turned the letter over in her hands a few times before sitting it on the desk.
“I’ll give it to Mitsuba when he comes back,” she said. “Go have fun.”
Tsukasa floated up in the air and onto his back, just high enough that Natsuhiko couldn’t reach him if he jumped. “I wonder what’s in it. What would that exorcist boy need to give Mitsuba a letter for?”
“Don’t open it.”
“Come on, just one little peek?” Tsukasa pleaded, putting on a sad face and floating over to the envelope.
“I’m a little curious too,” Natsuhiko said, walking over beside Sakura.
“We’re not opening it until Mitsuba gets back,” she said.
“Until I do what?” Mitsuba said, walking in.
“Mitsuba! The exorcist boy left you a letter!” Tsukasa said, grabbing and waving the letter in the air, floating to Mitsuba. Mitsuba grabbed it from him.
“The kid with the lame traffic safety earring? What does he want with me, to star in porn?” Mitsuba said, staring at the envelope. Natsuhiko and Tsukasa crowded around him.
“Open it!” Tsukasa practically yelled in Mitsuba’s ear, and he flinched before opening the envelope. He hid it from Tsukasa and Natsuhiko’s views.
Mitsuba,
You’re a great friend. I want you to meet me on the rooftop tomorrow after school ends to ask a few questions. I really hope you can.
Sincerely, Kou Minamoto
“What does it say?” Natsuhiko asked, trying to look over Mitsuba’s shoulder.
“Nothing, he just wants to interrogate me on the roof tomorrow. Sounds stupid, especially from a guy like him. His taste in earrings is terrible!” he said, but lying slightly. He didn’t think so terribly of Kou anymore, the exorcist was starting to grow on him.
“Aww. I hoped he wanted something more interesting,” Tsukasa whined. Mitsuba ignored him.
The next day, Kou was waiting on the roof when he heard Mitsuba’s voice.
“So it wasn’t a prank after all, huh?” Kou turned around, and the pink-haired ghost was standing with his arms crossed, smirking.
“Mitsuba, I’m glad you came,” Kou said, trying to keep his cool and not get too excited.
“Well you’re the one who invited me, I assume you know what we’re doing.”
“Come over here, let’s sit down,” Kou said, beckoning to a bench. Mitsuba walked over, and the two sat down.
Kou looked wistfully at the sky, and then to Mitsuba. “I met your mom the other day, she was at your grave. And I doubt you remember but… maybe you’d remember these.”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Mitsuba said. Kou took out a white binder and flipped through it. There were pictures of birds, trees, dogs, almost anything natural that wasn’t a person.
“Why are you showing me these?” Mitsuba asked. Kou flipped to the last page.
A photo ok Kou standing on the roof of the school, looking into the distance. The scene replayed in his mind. He felt tears well up in his eyes, but he didn’t let them pool up.
“That’s you, right?” Mitsuba asked. Kou nodded. “But why are you showing these to me? Is there really a reason?”
Kou looked at Mitsuba, shocked and a bit sad. “You don’t remember these? But you took them. These are your pictures. And you said you like taking pictures of things that are important to you.”
Mitsuba cocked his head. “I don’t remember these, are you teasing me?”
“I’m not! You… these were pictures that you took. Well, the old you.” Kou sighed. “Maybe you really aren’t the same.”
“I have no idea what you’re talking about, what do you-“
“Oh, I see! You’re just a cocky, selfish, girly, sarcastic, camera-obsessed emo with an annoying voice! That’s what you are!” Kou yelled.
Mitsuba flinched back, confused and offended. “Wow. Bold words from someone with such a lame-ass earring.”
“I wasn’t finished! Most importantly,” Kou’s tone shifted to calmer and kinder, “you’re my friend, Mitsuba. That’s who you are.”
“I-“
Before Mitsuba could say anymore, Kou pulled him into a hug.
“Why did you have to leave me like that?” Mitsuba felt tears on his shoulder, and he reluctantly returned the hug.
“I guess you’re my friend too.”

I’ve seen people saying that the plot is losing direction and that no.6’s backstory is unnecessary but I very much have to disagree. So I will do my best to explain how this current arc all connects with the rest of the story.
From very early on in the story we learn that someone is changing the rumours of supernaturals that reside in the school. The first school mystery to have their rumour changed is Yako which causes her to go berserk and this threatens the lives of student at the school. Hanako, Nene and Kou enter Yako’s boundary to stop her and Nene ultimately ends up destroying Yako’s yorishiro thus making it so she is no longer in control of her boundary.
As of now 3 out of 7 of the school mystery’s yorishiros have been destroyed as well the the original no.3 being killed and replaced by Mitsuba (more on that later). So that means 3 of the original school mysteries remain intact which are: No.1 (The Clockkeepers), No.6 and No.7 (Hanako). As we know Tsukasa, Sakura and Natsuhiko are the ones behind changing the school rumours but what is the purpose behind doing so?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It seems that Tsukasa dislikes the seven mysteries and believes and that both supernaturals and humans should be free to do whatever they want. So Tsukasa wants to weaken the seven mysteries in order to overthrow them and create the world that he wants?
In the Hell of Mirrors arc we see Tsukasa drawing on the wall of an empty classroom. I think all of the drawings here are meant to represent different parts of his plan so I will try to break down what I think they all mean.
Tumblr media
Fish (Nene): Nene is an important part of Tsukasa’s plan because she is the one capable of destroying the yorishiros
Red House: The Red House is the house that Tsukasa grew up in and also where he first met both Nene and Kou. Tsukasa also saw all the things that Kou desires most notably including his desire to turn into a supernatural and be with Mitsuba “forever”.
Person: I can tell this is supposed to be someone but I’m not sure, I’d say it’s Hanako but there’s no hat, so maybe Amane?
Pit: I think this is meant to represent the “pit demon”, we don’t know much about what this demon is but we do know that it seems to be apart of Tsukasa. I’m sure we will get more information about the “pit demon” at some point but for know I don’t have much to say. My guess though is that merging the near shore and far shore would grant this demon some sort of freedom.
Shark (Kou?): This one is sort of the stretch but I think that shark thing is supposed to represent Kou. I mostly say this because of the sharp teeth and the fact that the shark is eating something. I think that Kou becoming a supernatural is a part of Tsukasa’s plan and as we know the way for a human to become a supernatural is by eating a one.
Mitsuba: I think that Mitsuba is no more than a pawn in Tsukasa’s plan. It seems that when Tsukasa made Mitsuba into no.3 he took his heart in exchange most likely meaning that Tsukasa is capable of killing him at any time. Tsukasa is very much aware of Kou’s attachment to Mitsuba so I think that it is likely that Tsukasa will threaten to kill Mitsuba in order to make Kou do what he wants.
Train: Lastly we have the train which is how the severance correlates to all this because the severance is also something that Tsukasa wanted to/planned to happen.
So if Tsukasa’s wants to basically merge the near shore and far shore and make a world where humans and supernaturals can coexist then why would he want the severance to happen?
No.6 seems to be somewhat of a mystery to even the other seven mysteries and seems like he just stays in his own boundary most of the time but No.6 is the only one who can carry out the severance. So if Tsukasa wants to make No.6 come out of his boundary then the severance is necessary.
Tumblr media
The reason the severance is happening in the first place is because urabon (the time of year when the boundaries between the two worlds are the most blurred) usually it wouldn’t be a problem because the seven mysteries keep it under control but nearly half of the school mysteries yorishiros have been destroyed so the school is becoming overrun with supernaturals and No.6 is forced to step in.
For Tsukasa to carry out his plan he needs No.6 gone because he would never let the world that Tsukasa wants to make exist. So for Tsukasa to have his way then No.6 has to die but I also think that No.6’s powers are useful to Tsukasa so would want to give those powers to someone who he could get to actually be on his side and the obvious candidate for this is Kou.
I think the reason we are getting all the No.6 backstory is because a) There are a lot of important things in his backstory that we will need to know and b) because he’s not going to be around much longer after all it’s a pretty common trope to learn a character’s sad backstory right before they die.
In conclusion, basically everything that’s happened in the plot is apart of Tsukasa big plan that he’s probably been thinking up for a very long time.

Hi, I recently went through a lot of your theories and analysis posts (sorry for the spam of like 🥲😅) it’s just that, THEY’RE JUST THAT GOOD, I love the passion and attention to detail that you have in your analysis, reading about predictions and analysis of moments, or characters actions or reactions, base around situations it’s my favorite aspect of this fandom, I EAT THAT STUFF UP, so just Thank you so much for sharing them, they’re so interesting and entertaining to read 💕🛐💕
And I was wondering, if it’s not to much to ask, do you have any theories or analysis base around, Mitsuba, Kou and/or the dynamic of those two, or one of the two, with each other, by themselves, or with Tsukasa, it’s just that I really love those three characters, and I was wondering about your perspective from them, if you want to of course, anyways, take care, sorry for the spam and love your post 💕❤️💕☺️🌹💕
Awww how sweeeeeet 🥺🥺 🥺🩷 you made my day happier, thank you for your kindness, I'm really very haaappy >.< Hahaha I love this fandom too, all of us together to unravel the mysteries of JSHK 😼
So, about these three, I've been thinking about some possibilities, because I like to analyze the character's role in the plot, why is he there? What is his objective? What difference does it make if he exists in the plot or not?
I've been thinking about Mitsuba, he appeared in the story with a very simple objective, but what was his role in the main story? What will affect if it disappears or not? Given how important he is by appearing many times, returning to the story again after Mitsuba 1.0 was destroyed, the appearance of his mother, and how he is well connected to Tsukasa and Kou, two important characters, I assumed that he is the key to something we don't yet know.
We should also mention that Mitsuba is gaining development, Tsukasa is helping him get stronger, but why? Since Mitsuba has a connection with Kou, I thought of some possibilities.
Maybe Tsukasa is using Mitsuba to manipulate Kou in some way. Kou is from the Minamoto family, the family of exorcists, he is one of the members who are apparently more tolerant of supernaturals. See, Kou started out in the story wanting to exorcise Hanako, but in the end he ended up becoming his friend, from then on Kou started to rethink whether supernaturals are bad or not. He argued with Teru about it, and later he advises Nene not to give up on Hanako (when she found out a little about his past)
Then he meets Mitsuba, who coincidentally was near his locker when he first appeared. The rest you already know. What it implied was that Tsukasa was angry because Mitsuba wasn't doing what he wanted, so he wanted to mold him. We see that Tsukasa takes Mitsuba's essence, it seemed like he knew that Mitsuba was going to "die".
Tumblr media
So he created another one, not for nothing. There is some reason, Natsuhiko was also trying to manipulate Kou, he actually succeeded. Now Kou knows how to become a supernatural and is thinking about it seriously. Maybe Tsukasa wants Kou to stay away from the Minamoto family and help the supernaturals.
Tumblr media
What if Kou is responsible for unsealing Hanako? Wasn't it his grandmother who sealed him in the first place?
Basically that's it, Tsukasa seems to be trying to convince Kou that supernaturals are good, and his coexistence with Hanako and Mitsuba can guarantee that. Natsuhiko didn't let Mitsuba be close to Teru, but they allow him to be close to Kou, Sakura even suggests that Mitsuba should befriend him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is no coincidence.
If Kou thinks the supernaturals are good, he will hardly want to exorcise them (as he was unable to do with Mitsuba) besides, it can be used to remove Hanako's seal and probably for some other purpose. We didn't see what Kou talked about with Natsuhiko when the separation happened, but he seems to be being influenced a lot.
Tumblr media
In short, I think this is an interesting possibility.
About the dynamics between them hahahaha Tsukasa and Mitsuba look like brothers who fight all the time. Tsukasa is the troublemaker younger brother who sometimes hits his brother and is hot-headed, but soon they are having fun together. Other than that, Tsukasa usually takes care of Mitsuba, especially after the separation. Tsukasa has his way of taking care of things.
Kou's relationship with Tsukasa is still lukewarm, the sealed Tsukasa has all the anger and resentment that Kou can offer because of what he did to Mitsuba, and the resentment is so much that he became very suspicious of the baby Tsukasa, he was harsh with him, even I felt sorry for how he was treating the baby, he relaxed a little after he found out what little Tsukasa did in the past.
As for Mitsuba and Kou hahaha the controversial relationship. The mixture of love and tantrums. It's a relationship that develops extremely slowly, very slowly. These two are almost always fighting over something stupid, Mitsuba is very tantrum and really likes to provoke and irritate, hahaha Kou follows his rhythm.
I think it will take even longer for these two to turn this friendship relationship into a romantic relationship, if that is the case, there are a few factors I can mention. But as this answer is longer than I expected hahaha I'll leave it open, if you want me to go deeper into Kou and Mitsuba's relationship, just ask me :3
I answered another Asks talking more about this, if you are interested, click here and here
Anyway, thank you again for your kind words, thank you very much, hahaha and thanks for the likes! XD 💕
I hope you liked it, thanks for the ask! ♡

within summer blooms. (which taunt you.)
Tumblr media
nagito k. / fem ghost! reader.
tags: angst, no happy ending, right person wrong time, major character death, hurt no comfort (kinda).
writting is not checked: we die like ghost! reader.
(reader is the former ultimate gardener, yes…it’s important to the story.)
small inspirations from animes you might know! (or not.) ; tbhk (mitsuba/kou and…tsukasa) and madoka magica. …mostly tbhk.
this was requested by @adelia-chan ! ☆ thank you!
nagito always had horrible luck.
no matter where he went, it would end in ways that nobody has seen before. it was a shame to be unlucky, but with the ways of luck, things never change, not even for the victims of despair…
yet, trapped inside of hope’s peak academy was a strange yet non surprising way he got trapped. summer break was coming sooner than expected, so most students rush to do something to celebrate on their finale exams; college exams. leaving lesser students to do all of the cleaning, which nagito was one of them. . .
and when nagito was finishing up his duties it was only him left, and everyone always forgets about him so the school was left to close for the afternoon. it was stupidly his luck, that left him in this way and staying over night might get him in trouble, so finding a way to get out would be the most important.
and to his disappointment, every door was sealed shut. not even with any of his tricks it wouldn’t work. although he did remember when he did knock down a door accidentally, due to his luck. so the student council has to make all of the doors: “nagito-proof” it makes him a weridly thankful that they could name something out of something he did.
which during his entire rant, on how thankful he is to be part of such a delight indeed, a ghost, who was actually in the middle of going to her (old) garden saw the pale-haired boy infront of the door.
you weren’t really into the fact that he was rambling into something, you just had to make sure he was ok. yet, you forgot that people have known to be afraid of ghost…which you are.
“hey, are you ok?” you replied to the boys, thoughts of respect.
and yet, you were scared.
if he gets scared like the people, who you simply need to know if that they remember correctly that it was you, their friend.
and if they don’t, it wouldn’t end that much well for you. especially with the stupidly naive deal you made to see everyone again, family, friends. it was your only chance, so taking it would be a final way to say goodbye.
correct?
it was a silent pause into nagitos thoughts. it was extremely his bad luck knowing that he is stuck inside his school, know with a ghost who is in front of him, with concern in their eyes.
“hey…hey! are you ok? the more you stare at me the more my flowers are going to wilt!” you snarled at the boy, not knowing what to do.
it was only a few minutes anyways and he finally spoke even with all the questions his head.
seeing ghosts face to face are a thing that nobody has truly seen.
yet to him, he has seen one. not only is that “unlucky.” it is truly lucky. maybe he can learn more about death more. he’s not afraid of it, maybe.
you facepalm at the boy, currently you were going to get to your garden, and now your stuck with a person who isn’t even afraid of you.
he was just shocked. your smirked for a little, taking that way, since nagito has wasted 30 minutes of your time. it would be better to do the same, yes?
and to your shock as well, he agreed to you taking him to your “garden”, unlike any other average student, example: your very own friend, they think your “garden” is truly where you are going to drag them into the same fate as you.
so they leave…well run away from you, leaving you alone, once again. is this just your loneliness, maybe just a eternal curse you will have until you truly pass on.
and for nagito, he just…agrees like a lost puppy dog that wants to know everything about you. this is a rare time that nagito has now seen in his life. which was you, a finally seen not as a scary illusion from guilt. but as a new friend.
ah, you couldn’t think that much about him, it was only your first time seeing him, and you barely had any time.
being the anniversary of your death soon and soon enough the time you truly have to go, any finally rest for another life.
finally, you went to your small garden. it was blooming more than normal, as the suns blesses with its shine and “love.” it was a easy job. it was your garden obviously, a place full of memories, a place where you could be happy with everyone.
and with nagito with you and him listening to every word your saying, it gives you happy memories. the things you truly wanted to do one last time with everyone, wouldn’t it just be so great?
“hmm…are these roses?” nagito asked during your rambling while watering your bonsai.
you put down your watering can and got ready to ramble about the flowers and the meaning of them.
until you saw nagitos bleeding finger, and was getting on your precious daisy’s, which wasn’t exceptional to you as you scolded the laughing man like a mother.
time passed fastly after that, faster than you can imagine, also you promised to get him out of the school so he can get to his apartment before his classmates start a search party.
yes, even if the barely care for him. it was still needed. no matter what. you sighed, once more you took him to the opened door from a security’s guard (which you accidentally scared.)
and waved goodbye.
after that fateful afternoon it was a shock to see nagito stay a little more while at the school, most thought he was up to something big, while the class just took it off as him finally getting “a touch of grass” — hiyoko.
also you both actually introduced yourselves, although you were seemingly confused on how he’s the ultimate “luck” he didn’t seem that much lucky to you. and for you, introducing yourself as the (former) ultimate gardener was easy to figure out due to context clues.
it was slightly embarrassingly, only for you… yet nagito just clapped it off as you still being a symbol of hope.
ah, anyways…
it’s been about 2 weeks since the fateful day you meant with nagito. (and more importantly, the day you have to go soon.)
he was almost like a close friend, honestly. every time after-school he would come and visit you and your garden and even learned much about how plants have meanings.
yet, you were on the clock. you had been trying for months just to actually get your friends to remember you, yet it didn’t work. all you did was hurt your friends more and more with just being a ghost.
why?
because of guilt.
once someone goes, you can’t see them again, nor can’t say your true feelings or even be with them, not even a hug or a laugh.
they just, disappear. and so with you being a ghost, they think it’s their mind taunting them for not saying goodbye.
or the feeling of self guilt; like it’s their fault.
yet for nagito, he’s just so confusing never scared of anything and you know much about him even when he shows his true personality.
and yet, harm can come in many ways. horrible ways that you can’t say it. you can feel it. so why not just say your true feelings?
it’s that easy! right…?
exorcists are dangerous to ghosts.
they bring harm and fear to the ghosts and with no mercy in some ways. which brings terror and puts the ghost in ways that they are not ready to say goodbye yet;
or truly pass on,yet some are kind and want to help the ghosts. but flowers aren’t truly that perfect. no matter how kind they look.
take a example, roses. they look pretty, and yet so dangerous that it would harm the ones who dare to touch it.
it was actually the same with you and the ultimate exorcist. as she has had complaints about you in the past, an extremely confused ghost.
yet she gave you time to truly say goodbye to your friends, and of course you accepted the final days you can see everyone and try to talk to friends and family.
most would see this as a blessing, yet to your friends they truly thought you were just there to give them more grief to your death.
(they didn’t know it was truly you, so it gives them a point or two. but they are actually a little stupid..so take off a point.)
and that stupid exorcist, she knows. she knew that you were going to fail anyways and is a entire master at gaslighting you.
and today, you weren’t going to fail. one more time, just one more time!
but you failed.
again, and again.
no matter how hard or how kind you look. it never works. even when nagito tries to calm you down and even tried to talk to them, they would just find him even more scary to the experiences of seeing you.
and today.
the final day you can try to talk to them.
you failed.
you…failed.
like shattered glass, it was giving you more despair, and it gets more shattered everytime until the sunlight, the memories taunt you.
the car crash, the everything.
why…how.
it was just all over your mind, no one was their to be with you anymore, since nagito went home for the day, which will be the last day he will truly see you.
why?
I’ll recommend asking the exorcist.
note: this will be a little, uncomfortable(?) and it’s not that important to the story at least. so if it does, please skip.
it was truly a painful experience.
you couldn’t do anything about it, because she was just too fast.
all you could do was scream for no one, the exorcist had you by the heart. it was unavoidable. you couldn’t say your true feelings yet, you couldn’t say anything.
maybe, if you weren’t such a idiot and went to the flower shop that day. maybe this wouldn’t happened. maybe, you could of confessed your true feelings to nagito.
but it was way to late, way to late. like the day another person confessed to your crush the day you were going to confess and they accept the other persons confession.
they have a life together, and all you can do was sit back to watch, you could never have a happy life or do regular teenagers things anymore.
you were a ghost, after all. so maybe, it should be your turn to go. forever.
those were the words that came out of your head and the exorcists mouth while taunting you.
and yet,, soon enough.
you were finally going to rest. (not) peacefully.
the exorcist smirked at the work she has done, and left. hopefully you can finally rest.
it was only fate.
after all.
a fate, you can truly. never change, which will taunt you all the way to your final grave.
nagito was worried, he hasn’t seen you in a while. not in the garden or the koi pond. you just, left.
he thought for a second: we’re you truly sick of him? I mean, he does ramble a lot and he does say a lot of stupid things.
but you always listened, so why would you leave? he had so many questions that had to be answered. maybe it was his luck? or maybe just him? he has no clue.
his top priority is to find you, I mean who else is going to show him your garden and ramble about all of the flowers you have and their meaning.
he had to figure out quickly, although. maybe your old friends or maybe that exorcist you were scared of said has something to say.
he was just truly, worried. so he had to figure out, quickly. in the name of hope! (and flowers.)
one by one, your friends talked about you, how you were just, a sweetheart. even if you were so tough with them. you had your ways of making friends especially in that one garden you had.
the way you died was…messy to say the least, from nagitos research of you most of your friends looked near to crying.
it was a painful way to go, any you were just looking for something so innocent.
roses.
from the garden shop. but to your horrible luck, you got ran over badly by a speeding cars. (nearby people even said you looked both ways.)
and your death was something that they couldn’t change at all. it still gives them pain to that day, especially because you had a closed casket…
after the entire exchange was over, they were pretty worried out on how some random guy from a nearby class asked them such random questions.
yet nagito moved on. to that ultimate exorcist.
it was a small yet big talk for him, not only because the exorcist just said that they killed you, the exorcist just treated it like a simple case of a average ghost.
I would say it pissed him off, but he’s always just so calm, putting his true personality would lead to things like him being put out of school (again.)
but for you, you were truly just gone.
not a person nor a ghost.
just a concept they never existed. like, never existed, only the things you loved and liked were still their.
you truly just disappeared, you couldn’t even say anything yet for him, not even he could say anything for you as well.
all he can do is just stare at that one bonsai tree you have to him, it was actually your “confession” he was just too confused.
and once again, I think he would just feel deep, sadness. not that he could see you or hear you talk about plants and koi fish again.
but that you couldn’t say your true feelings.
nagito always has bad luck. it was something, he couldn’t stop and once again.
he has lost someone important again.
extra:
you gave nagito a small bonsai tree, it was truly your favorite in the entire world. you always had it with you and was your first priority. but, you gave it to nagito, it always gave you good luck when you were alive.
maybe it will give good luck to him, he deserves it more than you.
he did ask why it has roses with it.
you just laughed at him, maybe it could be something like to remember you by. if you ever go. of course.
authors note:
I apologize for things like not being accurate to the nagito’s character or maybe it being too boring??? I mean this took me about a hour or two.
you guys own me a reroll account/hj
