Oh god the way larries still refuse to admit that only one of the four boys was really on the side of the “hiatus” and that three of them really didn’t think it would go on much longer than probably about 18 months or 2 years. Like maybe they all didn’t mind the idea of a break but not essentially a break up of the band. Louis tweeted his promise that it wouldn’t last and people called him a liar but even what he has said recently just proves Louis didn’t properly plan on a solo career at first and the reason he didn’t was because he wasn’t given a straight answer. I feel like we already knew that from things he had said in the past but he confirmed it again. We know who it was who suggested the hiatus and that was before Zayn left. Which probably pushed Zayn to leave too because he wasn’t going to be used to push Harry’s solo career which good for him. I personally love having Louis’ solo career, even with the unfairness surrounding Louis’ lack of opportunities I am still more than thrilled to have his solo songs with just him, but he didn’t think of himself as solo artist until recently. His solo career is actually still young, in terms of release of his first solo album and also his mindset.

Some solo louies have proven recently to seem to think that Niall and Liam lied about it or misled Louis about the hiatus too but it wasn’t them. I just don’t believe it was them. At the time, they didn’t want 1D to end. Niall might be pretty happy with being a solo act now (or who knows) but it seems to me he was adaptable to the situation once he saw how/where it was going. It’s why he got an album out probably before others expected him to. Niall is definitely adaptable and didn’t have the spectre of larrie holding him back or keeping him down or making him a potential threat to their chosen one. Larries gaslight themselves and allow Harry to gaslight them too because that’s the only way it can work. Because otherwise what kind of partner/person would Harry be if he did that to Louis? What’s the line they love to sprout, “I’d give up everything just ask me to”? It’s a laugh because I don’t believe Harry would give up even one small thing for his partner, unless it actually benefited him in some way. That’s the person they stan, the one they actually care about. They even want Louis to be the bad partner so badly but hey, Harry tells you himself how bad a partner he is. Maybe larries need to listen to his words too 🥴

I can’t believe we’re repeating words from 2017, but these days, older Larries continue to manipulate new fans. So here we are, with Larries in 2023 believing Harry to be the greater victim.

Inspired by ZAYNs recent post (which if you haven’t seen by now what are you doing go watch it right now) i have decided to share some of my headcanons on the house of anubis characters feelings towards One Direction. With the show being set during the peak 1D years i’m surprised i haven’t seen a post like this before (maybe there are some but i just haven’t come across the because i’m not very good at social media) Prepare for a very long post as I have thought about this thoroughly.

Amber and Alfie - Definitely obsessive stans. Amber knows all the songs, all the key information about each member and absolutely adores Zayn. She had a full on meltdown when he left the band and had to be consoled by Nina for like a week. Patricia made fun of her (but she was also low-key hurt when he left, more angry than upset because of the stuff that he went through in the band but still sad). Alfie full on vibes to all the bops and gets super emotional when his shuffle plays the sad songs. He goes from 100 - 0 real quick and really gets in his feels.

Joy- A stan also, but more of a low-key stan. Loves them just as much as Amber but isn’t as obsessive as her. She shows her love all the time by having frequent sing along sessions with KT in their bedroom and is always updating people on the 1D news. She was upset when Zayn left, but thought it was right for him and was happy he did what was best for him. She fully supports all the boys in their solo careers.

KT- Isn’t a stan, but loves all the songs and all the boys. Can’t decide whether she has a soft spot for Niall or Louis, but i’m leaning more towards Niall. it just feels more right.

Mick and Fabian - Both aren’t stans and are not even really fans, but they know some songs. They don’t always recognise that a certain song is a One Direction song, but bop to them whenever they’re played. Mick is completely clueless as to who is who in the band and it drives Alfie INSANE. Mick just refers to each of them by their most notable feature. Jerome also gets infuriated by this, but has to hold it in, because he’s a secret stan. Jerome sometimes accidentally exposes himself tho because micks cluelessness just infuriates him too much not to say anything.

Nina- Likes their accent and finds them all adorable. Appreciates their songs. Prefers the slower songs to the bops.

Mara- She has a love hate relationship with them. She thinks they’re very talented and likes some, but not all of their songs. She prefers the more angsty ones, but also likes some of the bops and sometimes sings along sat on her bed while Kt and Jot have their sing along dance sessions. BUT she hates the obsessive fans. She absolutely despises the way some of the act and although she loves Amber hates the love she has for One Direction because of this. She was indifferent when Zayn left and when they broke up. She still has some of their songs on her playlist after they broke up.

Jerome - 2 words. SECRET STAN. This boy is a One Direction stan through and through. He hides it though and would never admit it to a single soul. He was there from the very beginning. He watched their entire journey. He frequently rewatches their journey as a band during X Factor just to feel something. Always makes fun of others in person when they talk about how much they love the band and the songs. He was shattered when the band broke up but hid it well. He frequently searches the bands hashtags on TikTok and Twitter.

Willow- This one was hard because she’s a character thats really hard to pin down so i don’t have much to say on her other than m she definitely doesn’t hate them. I would say she’s just a low-key fan. She like their music and the boys but just casually.

Patricia - I found her a bit difficult too if i’m honest. The biggest thing i would say is she does like them. She’s definitely not a stan or an obsessive fan, but vibes with their music and likes all of their albums. She sometimes (be it forcefully) gets involved in Kt and Joys sing along sessions and by the end gets very into it, although she forces the others not to tell anyone about it. She m has also had a few karaoke sessions where she has sang a One Direction song. She has a special connection with the angsty songs and the ones that have more meaning to them. As well as an extra special connection with ‘ready to run’, because of all the trauma she faced with Rufus and her trauma in regards to feeling locked up, claustrophobic (not in the physical sense) and feeling like she doesn’t have her freedom. She was upset when Zayn left and she definitely had things to say about it. When the band broke up she was upset, but not distraught. She has a dedicated playlist for her favourite 1D songs

Eddie - I left my boi last of all the kids because i have A LOT to say about him. He isn’t a stan, but he’s definitely a big fan. He doesn’t hide it to the extent Jerome does, but he downplays how much he actually likes the band. He definetly makes fun of the obsessive fans, because he just doesn’t understand how someone could be so obsessed with 5 boys that don’t even know they exist. He understands the appeal behind the obsession, because he appreciates that the boys are amazingly talented and that their songs slap, but doesn’t quite understand the obsession. He tries to convince people he only likes the Midnight Memories album and some of the songs from the Four album, because these are the albums that have the stereotypical ‘cooler’ sound but it’s a complete facade. He loves the first two generic pop albums the same way he loves the others and listens to them on repeat. He also has, in the privacy of his room ofc, shed a tear to some of the slower songs. When he first caught himself doing this he made a promise to himself that he would never listen to these particular songs in public in fear of being seen crying to a One Direction song. He has to hold back tears when these songs come on in public when he’s around a group of people. Despite his love of the band and the boys their is one thing he despises about them. He absolutely hates that Americans obsess over the fact their british.

Now to the adults:

Victor - The songs are too upbeat for him and too loud. He’s not a fan, but has some respect for some of the songs. He appreciates some of the lyrics and the boys voices.

Trudy - Not a stan but a fan. a big fan. Finds the boys adorable and definitely has a soft spot for Niall. Definitely definitely jumps in on the sing alongs with Joy and Kt when she’s walking past their room. She consoled Amber with Nina when Zayn left and when the band broke up. She made Amber a special breakfast both times and doted on her. She chastised anyone who made fun of Amber during these, in her words, troubling times. Trudy’s the one person in the house who listen to all of Amber rants about the boys and always gives her the time of day for this no matter what she’s doing.

Mr Sweet - A stan. Plain and easy. One of those older stans who frequently dad dances to their bops and always sheds a tear during their sad songs. He will be front and centre at concerts, waving flags to show his support. Eddie despises this ofc and when in a social setting with his Dad begs people not to play One Direction songs. But Jerome always takes the chance to play the boppiest songs just for the chaos, but he also gets the added bonus of getting to listen to the song himself without letting others know he wanted to. Jerome has to ofc physically restrain himself from dancing, but he has been seen a few times to be tapping his foot along to the song. Mr Sweet was very very upset when Zayn left and didn’t understand how the band could continue, but they did and he was all for it while still holding out hope that Zayn would return. He was very very upset when the band broke up and announced it on the school speakers whilst choking up.

That was fun. Now Anubis fandom and 1D fandom unite.

Me again I just see your asks on my dash and have a response to give a lot haha. Anyways saw your anon about Zayn leaving and Harry's behavior like you said we don't know the full story. If Harry at some point in time had some negative feelings towards the situation then more must have happened behind the scenes to make Harry feel that way. I saw some twitter stans that showed up on my personal acc getting mad at what Harry said in a past interview about it and I'm like your a fan on the internet why are you acting like you know more about the situation than someone who was in the band like stated before if Harry was upset at that time there must have been more to the story you as a fan don't know. And obviously if Zayn and Louis were ever fighting Harry was going to side with Louis. Also I remember solo Z stans getting mad at Louis for explaining why they weren't friends anymore [him not showing up to his performance.] I just don't get why people get upset Harry or Louis had something to say about the situation. Zayn had every right to leave and not really talk to them/see them that first year he left as much as Harry and or Louis did to feel upset about the situation. Lastly about what your anon said about Z&L friendship I think they have both moved on from the main issues they may have had but I don't see them ever being as close as they were in the band.

Yeah. l I agree with what you’re saying. I think we clearly know so little of what went on behind the scenes for these guys. And they’d been through so much together that if after Zayn left there were some hurt feelings, I think we have to assume there was more that happened than just that Z felt he needed to go. Obviously, he had every right to leave, as his mental health is paramount. But I think the others most likely had a right to be upset, as well. I’m sure we’ll never know the whole truth though.

I think that rads and most ex larries tend to favor Louis because as his career isn't taking off and he has a child and a long-time relationship with a woman, he still fits well as their "sabotaged and closeted victim" of their fantasies. They can't do that with Harry, as he’s been a very successful solo act so far, has hinted on experimenting with other men sexually and has been very open and public about his support to the lgbt+ community. Even for larries it’s hard to make a victim of H, no matter how hard they try, and that’s why is so obvious how much they favor L. So, it isn’t a surprise that most ex larries turn into rads or became indifferent to H, while still supporting L.

Portrait is not different to larries and rads, he isn’t a tinhat but he still is as obsessive as them. He probably stopped believing in conspiracies and stunts but it’s clear he still needs some strong believes/feelings around Larry to feed said compulsive obsession. If his criticism to H was fair and objective, he would hold L/Zayn/BTS to the same standards he does with H. That fact shows that Portrait is just a mundane H hater, just using H as a scapegoat for his unfulfilled obsession he can’t let go, like any other bitter 1D/zot3 stan; there’s nothing weird or confusing about his situation lol

Also, I think part of why these people choose H to hate is because at some point they couldn’t keep conciliating H and L actual behavior, careers decisions and lack of interaction with the Larry narrative in their minds, so they must quit to all those strong and obsessive feelings and admit to themselves that Larry weren’t a couple anymore or that never were one.

But then, H is out there living his life in a way they always expected Larry as a couple would do after “coming out”, is showing them what all their Larry feelings and hopes could have been if real, and that makes then mad and bitter towards him. I don’t know if I’m making sense lol, but that’s what I think is happening with those rads and exlarrie H haters. just to be clear. I am an ot5 stan. what this also means is that I support the boys as a group, and I also support them in their solo acts. and I know i’m not the only one like this. so if you’re a solo stan, and you have any problem with the other boys for WHATEVER reason, the unfollow button is right there. I have no shame nor embarrassment for calling myself a fan of any of those 5 boys. they wouldn’t be where they are without each other, and wether you think there will be a reunion or not, if you want it to happen or not, we have no say. it’s all on them. all we can do is support them no matter what and love them no matter what. like we’ve done from the beginning. i’m tired of all this slander on the other boys by some (NOT ALL) solo stans. I believe that Karlies relationship and baby are real. But PR babies are real and are definitely not a new phenomenon created by fandoms in recent years. But with social media it has become much easier to point out these things. That doesn’t mean there’s no actual baby. The parental status of the baby is what is being lied about in order to increase popularity. Or like you said, the reason for the baby not actually being to start a family but for general popularity/image > Tom Cruise, his previous marriage and baby as an old example. Most of the time (I won’t use an absolute), people who call out that a baby is used for PR aren’t stating that there is no baby at all.

That aside, specifically in regards to Zayn and Gigi, all of that was a mess. Since Gigi announced she was pregnant it was a solo show. Zayn (or his family who post about him all of the time/are always vocally proud of him) never acknowledged the pregnancy on social media. Social media isn’t everything! But Zayns family utilize it a lot. They all posted about Zayn’s sister’ pregnancy which happened at the same time. Gigi’s father publicly stated that he didn’t know she was pregnant even though she and her mother were already starting to talk about it. When Gigi was supposedly 5+ months she wasn’t showing at all. Some people carry small so okay. Until all of a sudden she was. She specifically went live on Instagram to show off her sudden belly (which she wasn’t previously even hiding, it just wasnt there). During this live she showed her belly but pulled up her shirt a little too much and it looked... off but that’s just me (other people pointing it out lol) but don’t take my anonymous word for it! Look it up for yourself if you want/or don’t if you don’t want. I can point out pictures if you’d like. The timeline was slightly off/weird but maybe she went passed her due date. Suddenly, Gigi has a picture with Zayn/her and her bump in the last 1-2 weeks. Kinda weird that she didn’t post that before because she made sure to post pregnancy pictures before but whatever. Throughout the pregnancy Zayn would post on social media about music, boxing, everything except this baby. And every time Gigi would hop on too like clockwork. Maybe Gigi just carried small and definitely was pregnant! I just don’t believe at all that Zayn’s the father and that they suddenly fell in love after stunting on and off for 5 years. Zayn was not acting like someone now in love/going to be a new father. His affectionate family wasn’t either. I’m not saying there’s no baby. It’s just not Zayn’s. I think having a kid is a huge decision for anyone to make and fertility is such a complex topic and if people make the call to have a child I don’t feel comfy as a stranger debating it. I mean I don’t feel comfy debating it for people I know personally even tho I am judgy so in my head I do this 👀 a lot when I hear some of the couples I know or people I know are having a kid. But like it’s their decision not mine.

I never disliked harry even when i stopped "stanning" him long ago because i was a larrie but then i realized i don't really cared about harry so i just focused myself on louis.

But that zane lowe interview changed my viewpoint. Because the way he talked, i mean maybe i was wearing rose colored glasses before but that was eye opening for me. How he said he didn't want to be the one to cause the band to be in trouble, i mean what a way to throw your bandmates under the bus yeah? And let's not even talk about "someone's mom" thing.

That also showed how calculative he can be, he said it himself he's a narcissistic but he was going for that solo thing way back when he was in the band, it was evident, but the way he talks about how he loved being in the band you know collecting on that ot5s support while subtlety letting people know that he won't "trash talk" like Zayn, reminding people it was Zayn who left, acting like he's not like that. But other than surface level words, nothing on his actions shows that he actually even cares about his bandmates or the band for that matter.

I also got to see the difference between how when people say he's a nice person and when people say louis' a nice person, it's on a totally different things. People say Harry's nice because he shakes hands, sends people flowers, gifts, you know things like that. But i realized it was never that with louis, people say he's nice because he is, not because he gave them gifts or acted like some woke king. He is genuinely nice and you can tell. I don't get that vibe with harry. It doesn't feel authentic.

At first, I didn’t dislike Harry, even though there was a possibility Harry and Louis had broken up. It happens, it’s not the end of the world.

But all of Harry’s actions since then tell us exactly who Harry has become.

Like, I watch videos like this, and I can’t even remember who this person is. Harry was a completely different person when he had Louis (this was 2014, and Azoffs were around, but this was the Harry everyone loved).

Even after 2018, I wouldn’t have cared and would have just put Harry to the side, if Louis had had a normal album release and normal career.

I wouldn’t have paid so much attention to HSHQ’s behind-the-scenes maneuvers, as vile and calculating and ruthless as Harry’s team is. At one point (early 2018), I honestly thought Louies were being too grumpy, and Louis’ fans just had to be patient. I was ambivalent.

I started this blog in summer 2019 because it did not feel right anymore. TOU promo was cut short, but nothing about HSHQ’s response to it felt good— it was a harbinger of everything that followed, everything you’ve just listed.

Everything makes more sense in retrospect. I’m not sure that I see or know the truth, but the accumulation of evidence is overwhelming.

Hi I hope you are doing well! I sent the ask a couple days ago about about the difference between 1D & BTS when it comes to gfs. And your answer really made me think why I’m moving on. And everything you said hit the nail on the head. But I think what personally exhausts me the most is the narrative that the 1D boys hate each other & solo stans eating it up. I know the boys don’t hate each other I believe actions speak louder than words & there’s tons of footage that those boys really (pt1)

were friends. Unless they took acting classes in between shows it’s really hard to pretend to like someone you hate! Like that one saying says “All good things come to end” and always knew 1D wouldn’t last forever the animosity that the media/fans try to portray is what ultimately made me stop enjoying being in the 1D fandom :(. I Will continue to support from a afar all  their solo endeavors especially ziam since they are my faves. And if the five boys ever decide to come back together (pt2)

And I agree 100%. That narrative, that they all hated each other by the end, feeds into the worst of this fandom. It also creates this awful imbalance, because at least before when there was “gf” drama, we had the interactions between the five of them to make it better. Now we’re basically at a tilt all the time lol.

And I’m not even one of those people who needs to believe they’re all still the best of friends right now. I understand what it’s like to bond with people in certain situations and then kinda grow apart when it’s over. I know what it’s like to outgrow some relationships. And it was like ??? When was the last time you had a deep conversation with your old co-worker from Petco lmao, please calm down. Friends can not talk all the time and still be friends. Nuance exists! But that’s not what get clicks on gossip sites, so the media just fuels the feuds and the fandom falls for it every time.

I am sort of new to being a Niall fan and I want to ask a question that I hope won't come off rude. So here goes. Why is it that Niall has what I think is the smallest fanbase of One Direction? From things like online voting and likes, he seems to have the smallest fanbase even though he has lots of twitter followers, which really surprised me. Did he lose the most fans after the band broke up, with the folky image and the golf? Was it always like this? Thanks for your thoughts!

you’re not coming off rude at all!! tbh i only became a stan level fan in late 2015 (though i did listen to their music and have them in my periphery from v early on), so i don’t know if i’m 100% the best to answer this when it comes to things happening during the band from a fan’s pov, but i’ll still give you my perceptions of why the fandom seems to be split the way it is ghaslkdjf

1) harry - it seems to me like he was more or less groomed to be the breakout star (aka the justin timberlake) of 1D from very, very early on. that lends itself to more name recognition, an overall bigger fanbase, and more GP interest in general. add in the larry shipping/conspiracy on top of that and you’ve got a HUGE group of people dedicated to him. add that to the fact that he RARELY posts these days and OF COURSE his posts are going to get huge stats on them.

2) louis - a huge, huge, HUGE part of his fanbase seem to be more conspiracy based, whether it’s larries or people that believe he and his career is being suffocated by some unknown power that be, then add in his general “us against the world!” message to the fans, and a lot of them are VERY active, VERY motivated, VERY dedicated to like….proving they exist, i guess?? voting in fan polls and awards, liking everything he posts, almost as a way of reassuring louis that he has a fanbase waiting for him when he Overcomes whatever it is he’s meant to overcome, i guess??

3) niall - obviously i’m hugely biased here, but i feel like he wasn’t really taken ~as seriously during the 1d stans and in a lot of ways, he still isn’t today?? he was always kind of just the fun blonde irish one, he didn’t sing a ton, he was kind of almost like….comic relief for a lot of people?? so when it came to “the hiatus”, most people just expected him to chill out and play golf, and no one really expected him to really work on music. so when this town came out, it was a HUGE surprise to almost everyone?? so especially with that song, i think he got a good amount of 1D stan support, just because it was literally the FIRST solo song anyone had put out. then as more time has passed, each of the guys have put out their individual work, and the fandom gets more and more divided, it seems like there’s been marginally less 1D stan “for the sake of 1D” support. and because of all the work that niall has done with promo, especially after slow hands, it seems like he’s picked up a decent amount of GP fans, and because of his work in golf, he’s ALSO picked up quite a few fans and followers from that arena as well. and then i think there’s also a factor of more and more “former” hardcore niall stans have sort of….transitioned into the real world. they’re not as dedicated to voting in every fan poll or liking every one of his posts or spending every minute of their life on socials, but that also doesn’t mean they’re not still supporting him when it comes to the music and touring and the stuff that genuinely, ACTUALLY matters.

4) liam - tbh i feel like i have next to no pulse whatsoever on the liam fandom, and i would have guessed that it’s actually SMALLER than niall’s but that’s just gut instinct ghalskdj i do think he’s got a decent thing going with GP support, but that’s seemed to have possibly waned off since his first single so 🤷🤷🤷 whomst knows

5) zayn (if we’re counting him) - left 1D to the shock and awe and/or horror of many MANY people, so there was TONS of interest in what came next. that’s definitely waned a TON since tho, not helped at all by the fact that he’s barely done promo or performances since around the time his first album came out a few years back, and i’m not really sure what the current state of his fandom is either. 

something interesting to note as a theory i’ve seen floating around is the idea that a fanbase takes the lead of the person they’re stanning. niall is chill, so his fanbase is overall relatively chill. louis’ is very “us against the world” and the stans fucking act like it. harry…….doesn’t give them much of anything, so there’s a lot of projection about what they THINK he is, thus giving us lots of different types of harries ghalskdjf

This is going to be under a read more because it got longer than expected.

As far as Niall goes, it’s a combination of a few things that all added up. I didn’t like that I stanned him so hard for so long, and at the end of it felt like I didn’t know anything real about him and every bit of his personality seemed manufactured to me. I don’t care for the people that he spends time with. Losing the chemistry of the band interacting really didn’t help, as I’ve realized that the chemistry (however real it was or wasn’t) is mostly what I was on board for. And you say disregarding his music, but I can’t separate that from it, because it was really the final straw for me.

Niall was the underdog coming out of 1D. He wasn’t the weakest musician, but he wasn’t nearly the strongest of the 5, and he didn’t have the sheer fanbase that some of the others did. Louis and Harry came away with the most fans, so their careers seemed the most safe to me at the time, and Liam and Zayn were by far the most talented, so they had less to prove. Niall had everything to prove. He was the first member aside from Zayn to release a solo song, and he needed to come out swinging hard. Instead he released TT, and that song fell so flat (and felt like such an empty lie) for me that I just couldn’t deal with it anymore. I wanted to feel vindicated for putting my bets on him, and all I felt was disappointment (if y’all come at me for using this word because of that blog, I will fucking lose it).

And it’s not just TT. I’ve heard 4 of his songs over time. 3 of them are on a playlist that constantly plays over the speakers where I work. There’s TT, and the one he did with Maren Morris (sp?) and the one he did for that big foot movie or whatever it was. I also heard slow hands on the radio in a store once. Every time I heard one of them for the first time, I thought ‘God, this is terrible.’ and then I started to wonder ‘Is this...’ and I would Shazam it, and lo and behold- It was.

Part of that isn’t his fault. Part of that is just because my brain is weird, and when he no longer lived up to what I wanted from him, I started to resent him for it. That’s not on him, and I don’t blame him or hate him for it. It’s just that my brain is kind of a toddler throwing a fit over a broken toy because it isn’t what I want anymore, and Niall is that toy. I actively hate his voice, not because it’s bad, but because my brain can’t not hate it anymore. When I hear his voice, I hate it, even if I don’t know that it’s him yet, because on some level my brain will always recognize his voice, even if I haven’t connected the dots. He could release the top 50 bangers of the next decade, and I’ll hate all of them, because I can’t control it. There’s every chance that if one of those songs had been his first song, then I’d still be stanning him, and that’s why I can’t separate the music from it. It’s central to all of it. TT ruined him for me. Permanently. My brain will not ever allow that bridge to be repaired, because that’s just how it works.

For example, I used to like Selena Gomez, but now I don’t, and the same thing happened where hearing her songs, even the ones I used to like, makes me viscerally angry, not because they’re bad, but because I don’t like her. On the other hand, if I’ve never cared for someone, but they release a song that I’ve enjoyed I can admit it. I’ve never, ever liked Taylor Swift, but ‘Safe and Sound’ is absolutely one of the best songs I’ve ever heard and it’s on my phone. It’s like when you loved someone, but it goes really bad and you break up, and even hearing a song that reminds you of them or inspires memories of them upsets you.

I don’t actually judge other people for still enjoying him or his music, though I do absolutely tease the bejeesus out of Kayla @narrymusings for it because I live solely to troll her. I’m pretty sure that my husband likes some of his songs (which is fucking hilarious because he just couldn’t stand 1D at all, but I have gotten him into 5SOS pretty heavily as far as their music), but he won’t admit it. If he makes you happy, then I’m happy for you. If he’s happy, then I’m happy for him. I just don’t want to hear or see him anymore. I’m not calling for him to be cancelled, because he doesn’t need to be just because I don’t like him.

As far as Louis goes, I’ve never been a fan of his. He was my least favorite in the band, and I’ve never really gotten into him in any way. I’ve heard a few of his songs, and they’re not bad. They’re just not my cup of tea. I find his personality abrasive, because he reminds me a lot of myself, and I don’t like myself. I also don’t really like his voice. 

BUT, he’s a very talented musician, and I absolutely admire his pure strength of will. He’s lost two of the most important people in his world in a very short span of time, and I am in awe of his ability to stay standing. I admire him so much, because I know that kind of grief, and it has almost destroyed me more than once. I don’t know how he does it. 

I also admire his complete determination to be authentically himself and stand up for himself. He doesn’t censor himself. He doesn’t hide who he really is. He doesn’t let himself be bullied. He doesn’t make himself into a blank slate for fans to project their thoughts onto. He is himself and nobody else is going to tell him who he should be or how he should act, and he’ll tell you to sit the fuck down and shut the fuck up if you try to lie on him. He will fight for himself and the ones he loves until he’s dead, and he deserves to be admired for it.

I’m not his stan, and I never will be, but there are very few people that I respect more than him for their strength and authenticity.

If only he’d actually apologize for dropping the N word in the weed video. I don’t care that he was young and stupid. He needs to own up to that and take responsibility for the pain he caused by doing it.

Nah, (at least, nothing other than her opinion abt Liam's career seeming totes normal, but she did tag in a Liam stan to refute that lol), this was abt boybands in general. And it was full of inaccuracies and then when an anon pointed that out, she was all, oh idk I never followed boybands before 1D sjdhsj then WHY are you talking abt them like you KNOW how they've worked in the past lol

1. Kpop is an entirely different thing and cannot be assumed to follow western music conventions

2. 1D is a completely different animal than NKOTB, BSB or NSYNC. Those bands were created with an eye to a well balanced group, holding auditions and looking for specific "types". They weren't all strong solo singers and they weren't meant to be. They needed to be performers and dancers and appeal to teenage girls and gel well as a group (i.e. some voices were solely for harmony and rounding out the sound). Which is why they auditioned BSB and NSYNC in Orlando. Those kids were being taught acting and dancing and vocal since they could stand. They all wanted to break into the Disney franchises and many of them (who weren't already on the Mickey Mouse Club) were performing in theme park productions.

1D auditioned as solo performers and were placed in a group and had to figure out how to BE a group. Because group singing is far different than solo singing. They're still solo performers. They're not really following the pattern that was set by previous boybands because they're not LIKE previous boybands. Yes, there was supposed to be one standout star. But that's not what happened. And I didn't expect that to happen because when you create a group out of solo performers, then they're all gonna pursue a solo career.

Anyway. I have a LOT of thoughts abt boybands and how they've all, without exception, been abused and overworked by their management but that's another topic skhzjs

I don’t know if it’s so much of a “theory” as much as watching a long...excruciatingly slow...car crash happen. lol  So, get comfy. I’m going in...

If we’re all gonna be 100% real there’s been a little pocket of toxic Harries since XFactor and they have never liked Niall. It started with posting all over social media that he was ugly...and moved right onto “he doesn’t belong in 1D” They drug him for looking 12 and having crooked teeth and his bleached hair...being scrawny. They hadn’t even gotten off the show yet. 

Moving on...1D went away to record and during that time Niall got braces and Directioners REALLY became a thing. Harries went a bit quiet. Because if they got salty...they had 4/5 of the fandom on their ass. Now they started low key dragging Niall (and Louis)....but sprinkled with some “haha” so they could say it was a joke. 

Moving on again.....something shifted around mid to late 2013. Everyone was shipping and now a big chunk of these Harries became....Zarries. They only had to post about Harry and Zayn. If they didn’t post about the other three no one noticed. They continued to be shady always framing it as “jokes” BUT now accounts started showing up on twitter and Facebook. I remember one in particular on Facebook. I think it was called “Niall doesn’t belong in 1D” Run by a Harrie. Charming. 

Moving on again to 2014...Harries have a weird relationship with Zayn. They not only think that he’s the only one in Harry’s league...they also think of him as competition. When Zayn starts flaking on promo they are a little giddy...and a little brave. They’re the ones speculating the most and when Zayn leaves in Feb 2015 they are fully empowered.

This is when they REALLY start doing the thing. Harry’s now the “star” of 1D. He’s “carrying” 1D. They start making “jokes” about Harry and the Pips...Harry and “the backup singers”...haha. Harry and Niall’s friendship becomes a real solid thing during OTRA tour...right up till the last performance at XFactor. 

Then we have New Years, Kendall, the boat and loads of rumors of Harry signing a recording contract...on the boat. Now Harries are empowered and we see the first REAL shade accounts and troll Harries. They are FULLY expecting Harry to be the Justin Timberlake and they are giddy.....right up until Niall drops This Town and then they drop ALL pretenses. They FULLY go after Niall. When SOTT and Self Titled drops we also see an influx of new solo Harries join the mix. 

Now. These new Harries don’t like that Harry is associated with One Direction. It’s not cool and they are embarrassed by it. They immediately start disassociating Harry from them. The only problem is Larries and Narrys. Larries they dismiss pretty easily. They call them crazies and drag them. Narry’s aren’t so easy. Most don’t ACTUALLY ship them. It’s more of a bromance thing and there is the fact that Harry was the closest with Niall especially at the end. They went golfing. They hung out outside of the band. They flew together. They rode together. The whole of 2015 was just them being really close friends....and then there was the fact that Niall was the only one Harry publicly congratulated and said that he liked their music. Niall reciprocated. Niall had to go. 

Now we have former 1D Harries and new solo Harries aligned. NOW’S when you start to see the rewriting of history. Niall was “so mean” to Harry. Niall was always “hanging” on Harry. Niall was leaching off of Harry. Niall was a “pest” and never let Harry breathe. Niall was trying to be Harry. Niall was using Harry.  Then they started to believe their own shit and any new Harries were told all the history rewrites and that’s what they believe so now they hate him too. 

And now we’re caught up to pretty much present times. Still trying to disassociate Harry from 1D and it’s members. Still believing their made up version of history. Still trying to drag the other members down to fulfill that Justin Timberlake fantasy. Only now they’ve moved onto stans too. They stalk, troll and harass groups of stans. On twitter. On tumblr. On Instagram. Where Zayn and his stans were once a part of their “in” crowd...now they have decided they’re better than that too apparently. So, now he’s currently being fazed out among the majority of Harries. 

They were sort of kept in check during 1D because they would get called out and told that “we support all our boys” yada yada. The One Direction mantra. But now there’s no one to call them out. Not even the Harries that don’t like their behavior. They just turn a blind eye to it and the toxic Harries now can say “I’m not a Directioner. I don’t care” and that’s exactly what they do. 

Thus concludes “The History of Toxic Harries” lol It’s long winded and I expect that I will have an epic fuckton of them descending on my blog to tell me off and let me know how full of shit I am. I also expect that I’m not going to care and that the “block” option in my settings will be used generously and often for the remainder of the night.

Can we talk about your H hate? Do you actually hate him or is it a joke? I used to love H and then his fandom became so obnoxious that I started to project my disdain for them on him. I was JUst wondering if this is relatable to you?

it’s... complicated. this might get a bit lengthy so i’ll do everyone a favor and put my answer under a cut. that way, if anyone starts an argument with me over something i said, i’ll know that you purposefully clicked ‘read more’ despite knowing you might not agree with what i wrote.

i don’t actually hate harry. or at least, not every minute of every day. i have a very complicated relationship with how i tend to feel towards him and it does change from one moment to the next. (i’m going to do my best to explain but pls forgive me if i start to ramble and it doesn’t quite make sense.)

he’s never been my favorite. back when i first got into 1d, i did (regrettably) buy into the ‘womanizer’ media perspective of harry and that soured my opinion of him right quick. but as i got further into the fandom and learned more about harry and the others, i realized that the media had it wrong and i no longer thought of him in that way.

having said that, at that time in my life i was friends with a lot of “harry girls” and that made things a little hard on me personally because i just didn’t really understand why they were all putting him up on a pedestal and acting like the other 1d boys had nothing to do with their success. i’m not just saying this because my fave is louis - i was always pro ot5/ot4. part of the magic of 1d was the fact that they were great together - but i’m getting off topic.

once 1d went on break, it just got worse. the fandom divided and solo stans got absolutely INSUFFERABLE with pitting their faves against one another. i’m absolutely pointing fingers at not just harries but louies and liam/niall stans too. even zayn stans! everyone shares in that accountability. BUT i do have to say that in my personal experience, harries are just the worst.

now, i’m not saying every solo harry stan is terrible. absolutely not. some of my best friends are harry stans and i love seeing how excited they get over things that harry does. i’m happy to see them happy, and that doesn’t change just because i don’t feel the same way about harry as they do.

what i do really dislike (and where a lot of my disdain for harry comes from) is how harry is still up on that fucking pedestal and now the whole world seems to be in on it. every single fucking time he’s rumored to be doing anything, people lose their goddamn minds. don’t even get me started on dunkirk or the little mermaid nonsense because we’ll be here all night.

when harry’s album came out, i was excited about it. i genuinely enjoyed sign of the times when i first heard it, but the novelty for me quickly wore off. the more i listened to it, the less i liked it. i thought it was a little too pretentious and try-hard, but still overall a decent song. when i listened to his album all the way through for the first time, at first i was like FUCK this is exactly the kind of music i like HOW DARE HE PUT OUT AN ALBUM I LOVE. but that was just the first listen.

after a few more listens, and really listening to the words, i found myself not enjoying it all over again - just like i did with sign of the times.

now, i’m not claiming to be a music critic or really knowing anything about the music industry. i’m just a fan of music. but, in my opinion, harry could’ve done a lot better.

i rarely listen to his album now. before i saw him at the troubadour, i’d listened to his album maybe three times. i was possibly one of the only people in the club who didn’t know every word. but the difference for me is that while i don’t like listening to harry’s album at home or in the car, i do really enjoy seeing him perform it live. my feelings towards harry aside, he’s a fantastic performer.

but honestly, what really pisses me off is that everyone in the music industry is up. his. ass!

two rolling stones covers?? really?? i just fucking hate that rs is all about harry now when they never gave 1d a chance. it seems like everyone in the fucking music industry just shits all over 1d and is now treating harry like he escaped some horrible thing - which is just not true. harry himself has said how fondly he looks back on his time in 1d and that he’s thankful for it. (this is honestly part of the reason for my mixed feelings towards him. how can i be mad at him standing up for 1d??)

i’m just tired of the hype. i’m tired of the harries whining about harry not getting nominated for grammys or whatever. news flash - his album wasn’t that revolutionary. it literally sounds like a mix of his influences and that is not revolutionary. sure, it’s different for him because we’re used to hearing what he sounded like with 1d but that’s it. it’s not boy band pop.

i think i’ve been repeating myself a little bit, and i’ve gone on quite long enough with being annoyed over everyone else’s opinions of harry. they definitely contribute to my feelings towards him, but that’s not all.

what also annoys me about harry is that he just seems... fake. look at his instagram. his twitter. it’s very much Harry Styles but not harry. i get wanting to keep a separation between his career and his personal life - i commend him for that - but honestly i’m sick of everything that he posts being a carbon copy of the one before it. there’s no personal touch to anything.

i guess i can’t really fault him for that. if i were in his shoes i wouldn’t want to give this fandom any more leverage over me, either. so i think what you originally said is entirely relatable. his fans have absolutely soured me to him personally and that’s not his fault.

having said that, i don’t think he necessarily deserves all the praise he’s been given. after all, he’s just a guy. he’s only human. i wish this stan culture didn’t exist because god, i’m so fucking tired of it. stop putting these celebrities up on pedestals they don’t deserve. at the end of the day, we’re all just human and we all have to go through life one day at a time. being rich and famous doesn’t make you better than anyone and i think a lot of people tend to forget that.

anyway, sorry for going on and on about this. hopefully i answered your question and didn’t just ramble uselessly for 20 paragraphs.

honestly, i don’t actually hate harry. i just hate what the fandom has done to my perception of him and that it’s tainted my personal view of him. i wish there was a way to go back to the way things were, but there just isn’t. as long as i’m a part of this fandom (however small it may continue to be), i just have to deal with it.
