ROTTMNT Theory: Leonardo's Face

(I know this topic had been talked about in other posts before. I had a mighty need to add my 2 cents, along with some pictures.)

We know Leo's gonna grow to be an amazing leader. He's already learning how to work in groups and communicate with his team, and he's even beginning to reel back his prideful behavior.

However, to live by the important life lesson of "we do we", I get the feeling he's not gonna do it the same way as past TMNT iterations. Future Leo in the ROTTMNT movie is proof enough that his humorous quips are here to stay, even after decades of apocalyptic horrors.

Because Leo's right, he IS the face man. He just hasn't realized yet how crucial the face of a team is, or how great of a weapon it can be.

Firstly, the face is an important tool for navigating the world around you. It's where three (four counting the ears) of the body's senses are placed. Sure, you can technically live and roam through touch alone, but then you risk missing a lot of information about your surroundings that could impact your life.

Metaphorically speaking, Leo provides this for his team the most often. He uses his highly attuned senses to scan their environment for immediate details. This allows him to adjust their plans to even the slightest changes, or to make quicker deductions based on whatever clues he finds.

Another thing about faces is how prominently they're used for communication. They are one of the most critical tools for social interactions of all kinds, including deception. Mastery of facial gestures is what lets so many actors/actresses thrive when putting on believable performances.

Continuing the metaphor, Leo has proven himself to be a master of persuasion so many times throughout the Rise series. His easygoing charm can make him both motivating for loved ones and easy to underestimate for opponents.

Once Leo's self confidence improves some more, his social intelligence gives him the potential to become terrifyingly powerful. The ability to outwit geniuses by thinking outside the box. Negotiation skills that could put the average politician to shame. Eyes as sharp as his katanas, ones that could read people like comic books. An equally sharp tongue able to flip entire situations in his team's favor through words alone.

Next to hope, Leo's face truly is his most dangerous weapon. He just needs to learn how to not let it control him. I'd love to see Leo further develop this more charismatic style of leadership that tends to set him apart from his past series' counterparts.

It's actually kinda sexy of Caleb & Evelyn to haunt the narrative so thoroughly while never having any speaking lines or even appearing on screen outside of 400yr old repressed memories, delusions, and/or hyped up folklore

We don't even know for sure if Evelyn was a Clawthorne, or what she looked like, or how the fight between Caleb and Philip went down, or Caleb's reasons for leaving without Philip, or what their half witch half human baby looked like, or how long after Caleb left before Philip found him again, or what Evelyn did when she discovered her dead lover's grave was robbed, or how quickly after killing Caleb did Philip decide "I can make a new Caleb that's Better™"

We have scraps to give us pretty good ideas for most of these, but nope they really just haunt with no reward. Like yeah babes give us nothing!

I visited the Amalfi Paper Mill! They began making paper in the 10th century and have the original mills, in working condition!

Amalfi began paper production because it had a spring running down the limestone mountainside for waterwheel power and numerous chestnut trees on the mountains. Chestnut was used for the original wood as it's very hard (for crushing cloth rags to pulp) and water-resistant. (Lucca is also a historic paper-making site and also has abundant chestnut trees.)

The first two pictures are of the original mallets (chestnut with iron spikes on the end) that crush into manually-filled stone basins. After being mashed, the pulp was poured into the basin with water and urine (nitrates) and collected on a sheet of iron with the papermaker's seal embossed. The sheet was pressed onto wool felt to air-dry, giving it a rough "watercolor paper" texture.

The second mill was created by the Dutch and used up until the 1960s. The waterwheel turned a cylinder coated in iron through a basin with the pulp, that pressed it directly to the wool felt and sent it through several additional presses to remove the water. The paper was peeled off and used for paper sugar bags.

Later, the museum was created and the methods were preserved, still functional. They continue the handmade paper production process, one of the few places in the world to make acid-free paper.

Aside from the main story in the WIP universe, I’ve got a couple other spin-off ideas in mind set in the same space.  I got this one idea rattling around this week involving a planet that genetically engineers assassins and two of those assassins being sent by the people they hired to kill each other, then deciding not to do that, teaming up, and going AWOL.  This be them, Tau and Rho, respectively :)

ohhhhh my god. love that bastard but also wtf dude. aside from wildly inconsistent characterization in my stuff (b/c honestly he's a really interesting character who has a lot of potential for different interpretations, imo) I KEEP FUCKING UP HOW I DRAW HIM 😭😭 i'll forget some detail or another (like on his outfit or the fucking x thing near his mouth or the little flag on his head), colors aren't always consistent cause i keep changing them (sorry my guy your current red is kinda too high contrast and i got color theory shit going on in my things), I CAN NEVER FUCKING DRAW HIS HAIR RIGHT EVEN THO ITS NOT EVEN THEORETICALLY THAT HARD OF A HAIRSTYLE, not even his height's fucking consistent either he's a goddamn mess. award goes to him for sure in being THE most inconsistent variable vocaloid bitch in my shit, not just hc/portrayal-wise but also drawing wise because FUCK even if i draw him somewhat often HE LITERALLY LOOKS DIFFERENT EVERY FUCKING TIME
