Regarding the Datatables Plugin for jQuery (and raw JS)

I figured out a way to get links in a table via the source spreadsheet. I'm not sure if there's another way that's better than this method, but, it's what I did.

So, here's what the end result datatable looks like vs its information.

As you can see, I have 2 more columns on the source sheet than I do the display sheet. That's because I didn't designate a column for them, but the plugin still has access to that information.

Meet: Linkit! [Demo] [jQuery.net Page]

LinkIt requires the word that needs to be automatically linked and the target URL. Which is what I have in those last 2 columns.

Linkit was used within the datatables function (in the callbacks), so it had access to the words I needed to link.

And, yeah, that's all well and good, but it only works for 1 link per cell. Otherwise, it just won't work.

Wellll, today, I figured it out!

I wanted to try and tackle this sort of thing eventually, and this was the perfect opportunity. How did I do it? A vanilla JS loop. That's probably not surprising, but you might be a little at a loss as to where to put it and how to execute it. At least, you would be if you're as inexperienced as I am.

Just after a conditional statement (verifying if the URL data exists) with the row and column within the loop.

There may be a method using each, with simpler syntax. Here's the thing: I'm absolutely terrible at getting those functions right. They reduce me to tears. So, this is definitely not gonna be the only approach. Just keep in mind that the row/column part will end up inside of the loop.

Also: DataTables is still being updated, though the LinkIt script was last touched like a decade ago. There are many plugins that do the same thing, however, so you might wanna use those if you get stuck using the one I suggested. EDIT: Have some code I made to make a list out of stuff in a cell.

Separated each "chunk" I wanted in a list with specific brackets (that I know I won't use later in the strings ever, you can do it w any 2 characters u want tho), and used this data rendering technique above. It separates the string into a list (well, more technically speaking, an array) by cutting sections off by the delimiter (the first square bracket, in this case.) Then, I knock off the one at the end. "Trim" gets rid of whitespace (space marks) at the beginning and end of a string, so that there's no chance I'll have a URL that's screwed up with an accidental space.

My Drama CD translation workflow

The first Drama CD I ever translated is One-Day Store Manager. That was in July 2022, nearly two years ago. Until recently, the workflow was simple, at least on the surface. I listened and either typed out the first thing that came to mind or looked up what I heard in jisho. If the sentence was long and complicated, I would listen to it at half-speed a few times, transcribed it into romaji and tried to figure out the translation as I stared at the transcription. Obviously, it was a slow and painstaking process.

During the past few years, rapid progress has been made in the fields of machine transcription and translation. Even back in 2022, I had the nagging feeling that things could be sped up.

Last April, I finally did it. After scouring the world wide web, I cobbled up some python scripts to do a couple of things.

1. Automatic transcriptions from mp3 files. Yep. This removes the major pain in the neck. However, as they say in computer science, garbage in garbage out (GIGO). The quality of the transcription depends on the audio quality of the mp3 file, of course. The amount of corrections I have to make is correlated to the bitrate. If the quality is good, I only have to correct about five percent of the transcription.

2. Automatic translation. Not so great, but it takes away the hassle of translating simple sentences and stock expressions. It is equivalent to copying and pasting into Google Translate site, but in bulk. Again, the GIGO principle applies. Hence the importance of making sure the Japanese text makes sense in the first place.

I will use a short scene from Kyouka Suigetsu to demonstrate the advantages and the pitfalls of automation in Japanese to English translation.

The speech to text output is a chunk of text, sans punctuation and indication of who is speaking. The script is particularly bad at transcribing our guy’s names. Hakkai is either eight floor, destruction, eight times or Bajie. (The last is not technically wrong, though.)

Here is how the translation looks like. Of course, it is also a chunk of text.

Here is the edited transcription. I corrected the obvious mistakes and indicated who is speaking at the beginning of their lines.

Again, GIGO. The output of machine translation this time is much better. It is not perfect, but I find it so much easier to re-translate with the Japanese text just below each line.

Still, the fact that even the automatic translation from the automatic transcription makes more sense than a translation made by a human being nearly twenty years ago is a testament to how far the transcription and translation technologies have come. The fears expressed by some professional translators are far from unfounded.

The day Google Translate matches a human translation more than ninety-five percent of the time is the day yet another job becomes obsolete thanks to AI. (Yes, I’m quite pessimistic about this. Why are we letting AI do all the fun stuff [art, writing, translation] and none of the soul-crushing or dangerous jobs?)

after the true end, i poked around the files and saw the true end script. down below, after the two choices are "label restart : show the body/eye" and a new perfect love section with different dialogues. this also had different choices than the initial perfect love ending. What can i do to trigger these? ive replayed the whole game, but i dont have a clue as to how to trigger the events listed there. again. if this is actually a future implementation, feel free to ignore this! thank you, and i really love the game as a whole~

Ahhh, you looked into the code!! Always a good sign. I left a ton of stuff in there in hopes people might look at it later.

Most of that code is unused mostly because I didn’t get a chance to finish it. The bigger chunk under it is actually my first and second draft for writing the Perfect Ending that I just commented out in case I took parts from it later.

The two labels you see there were the beginning of implementation so that players didn’t have to replay the entire game again to get both endings on the Perfect Ending. I realize that since the game wipes your saves and whatnot that it might be annoying to get every ending just to see what the other ending would be, so I was planning that after you saw one ending you’d have the chance to jump back to that choice and choose the other. I didn’t end up implementing it due to time constraints, but it might finish it if enough people get annoyed with having to replay everything again.

If you are interested you can also look at a bunch of other stuff I commented in the code. I was hoping people would look through it since I left a lot of my previous drafts and funny messages in it. You can actually read some of the extra stories I’m planning to implement too if you check under extra.rpy.

As of now, my top fifteen looks like this (beware my long, rambling commentary on all of them):

Be My Favorite (2023) 🔮 High quality across the board from the script (which bears almost no resemblance to Jittirain's novella, and the director Waa took his time with it and even asked GMMTV for an extension so he could make sure it was as good as it could be) to the directing to the acting, music (leitmotifs!!! MULTIPLE LEITMOTIFS!!!), cinematography (the LIGHTING in some of these scenes), just. It's all so, so good. KawiPi mean so much to me, I flew to Thailand for the first time to see the series finale. This one's gonna be really tough to beat. It skyrocketed to the top of my list by the eighth episode, and my top three had been pretty solid for the past three years. Director Waa called it the production he's proudest of, and he directed The Gift. Krist also said it's his second-favorite series he's done after SOTUS (which, lbr, is going to be his favorite series forever, no one loves SOTUS more than Krist, and speaking of which––)

The SOTUS Trifecta (2016-2018) ⚙️ It's funny. I thought UWMA was my top series from 2020 until 2023, but as I got further into BMF and it threatened SOTUS as my #2, I couldn't knock SOTUS down to #3. So UWMA went from #1 to #3 in a day just because BMF and SOTUS are that powerful. I fully expect Ex-Morning to give me another crisis, and it may even take BMF out. Exes-to-lovers is a platinum level trope, and it's sanctioned RPF based on their lives so. But yeah, SOTUS is my baby. I rewatched it three or four times last year. It just gets warmer and cozier in my heart as time goes on. <3

Until We Meet Again (2019) 🧶 I'm really and truly grateful this was my first Thai BL series. I started watching when the penultimate episode had just aired, so I got to experience that last little stretch live! It's where I found BounPrem and WinTeam and the pandemic was much, much easier than it would have been if I hadn't had that online fandom experience to soften all the solitude and fear. It's also just a really great series. <3

Triage (2022) 🚑 DBK was my #3 since I saw it in 2020, then Triage pulled a BMF and stormed up my whole list as I watched it live in summer of 2022. It couldn't quite take out UWMA or SOTUS, but juuust based on its plot being stronger than DBK, it took the #3 spot. Time stuff, man, I fuckin' love it. <3 And it gave me SingGap! One of my favorite couples to this day. Top five, easy.

Dark Blue Kiss (2019) 🐻‍❄️ PETEKAOOOO. SUNMOOOORK. I have such immense fondness for this series, I'll defend it with my life. Does it have flaws? NOPE. Not a single one. Not that one. Nope, not even that one. Everything is perfect, don't touch my baby, thank you. <3 (Non deserved a redemption arc, but that's not a flaw either.)

Between Us (2022) 🥦 The series that made New my eternal nemesis! I tried so very hard to be optimistic about this series as it was airing. We'd waited two years for it, we expected the best, and it just…under-delivered in almost every way. New shot himself in the foot claiming the novel didn't have enough material for a full series and then not using huge, massive chunks of the novel. And…changed Team's backstory? The big traumatic thing that's at the core of the whole story? It's at #6 because of BounPrem and WinTeam. Their storyline was fantastic, and BounPrem did their absolute best with it, but by god it should have been better. I don't know why. I've kind of made my peace with it by now, but I don't watch most of New's series anymore, and after Revamp, I'm not interested. Whatever passion he had when he directed UWMA was probably taken out of him by trying to be CEO and sole director at Studio Wabi Sabi, and Between Us suffered immensely for it. He should have given it to someone else, because BounPrem deserved better.

Something in My Room (2022) 🎭 I'm so happy Supanut has I'm the Most Beautiful Count. He's really deserved such a prominent spotlight. I genuinely think Supanut's one of the industry's strongest actors, and his performance in SIMR really cemented that for me. Spoilers in the following link, but this scene is still my favorite acting moment in any BL series. SIMR is suuuper underrated.

Cherry Magic (2023) 🍒 TAYNEW REUNITED. No flaws. Love me some TayNew being sappy and adorable. God I love them. They're not allowed to separate ever again. I'm sorry to them. I make the rules.

Not Me (2021) 🏍️ Not Me could've been at the top of my list easily if they'd had the script editors they needed. I fully, very seriously believe Not Me could have been, like, world famous. I was recommending it to Non-BL Fan Friends in the first six episodes. And then it fell apart narratively. It's still incredibly ambitious, and I think Nuchy did all she could have possibly done with what resources she had, and Thailand is a difficult country to make Anti-Government stories in, so that's why I'll always have profound respect for it. It fell short because it was failed, not because they failed.

Manner of Death (2020) 🔫 Also flawless. Idiot dead people doctor is horny and reckless, and his hot man is cock-stupid and hot. Perfect series, no notes. Cutest side couple in history.

Bake Me Please (2023) 🍰 LISTEN. It's simple and sweet and Guide is adorable and I want Ohm back in BL full time, thank you for attending my TED Talk.

I Feel You Linger in the Air (2023) ⏳ I love them. :') I enjoyed myself immensely. TIME STUFF.

The Eclipse (2022) 🌗 FirstKhao did great. Ayan and Akk are lovely. The story itself is kind of a mess, and I didn't feel much of anything for any of the other characters good or bad, but I had a great time and I'd rewatch it someday.

Cutie Pie (2022) 💍 ZeeNuNew are great. This used to be waaay higher on my list, so maybe I just need to rewatch it to remember how much I love it. Cutie Pie is one of the only series I watched weekly as it aired. And didn't touch my phone the entire episode. This was pure joy for me. Established relationship shenanigans? THAT IS MY WHOLE THING. ………Yeah, I don't know why I have this so low. I need to reevaluate this whole list. My confidence in my system is shaken.

He’s Coming to Me (2018) 👻 Singto the Cute Ghost is legendary. Long live the Cute Ghost Singto. This series is truly underrated. Like, not as much as SIMR, but it deserves more love. Singto's such a gem.

hiii icha!!! i'm ~finally~ going through the greatest journey, so here's ask #1 of... well, at least two. this covers chs 1-9 bc I thought it might be easier to chunk my thoughts this way! it's been 3 years since I've gotten into a3... let's call this my incredible stamina and patience and not. that i'm bad at doing things.

anyways. i knew vaguely that guy was like, kind of emotionaless but the moment i saw [ALL SYSTEMS ONLINE] i gasped like hello!!! robots!!! android in his case to be specific... this makes a clockwork heart make even more sense. izumi and citron actually explicitly bring this up--that luke & s's friendship reminds citron of him and guy. particularly the stuff about having different statuses. i think it's interesting that this is what citron highlights, rather than the fact that like, s is a homunculus and guy is an android, and both of them have their own struggles in understanding humans and human emotions. but the fact that citron isolates the status as the biggest divide between them rather than the android thing is SUCH a good encapsulation of like. how citron feels about guy i presume as well as the themes of a clockwork heart itself. since that play is reflective of tsuzuru's feelings regarding mizuno, it's not really their differences that hamper their actual sense of like friendship in a perfect world? it's the larger society and culture that forces them apart. which i imagine is a large part of what makes citron and guy's relationship strange--guy is his attendant. thinking on it now, S was created by luke... I wonder if, in a similar way guy was (or at least feels as if he's been) created For citron. that'd make things feel complicated. i also have to wonder if guy's Actually a robot... like shutdown switch, sure, but other than that he seems like he could be human just fine.

let's see, what else happened... OH RIGHT!!! i started talking abt guy and completely forgot that i nailed it in terms of calling citron a runaway prince!!! it was quite obvious at this point, really... but I'm glad I was right, anyways! I'm really glad we're getting this story, because we get to see a bit more muted and serious side of citron, which has always been there, but never really at the forefront, I feel? and like. it's really good. citron introduces guy as his attendant with a pleasant smile and doesn't betray any kind of tears at the thought of his upcoming coronation. he gets chikage to spirit him away under the guise of his fun little wishes. he tells masumi to let him have a 10 minute romantic walk with izumi so he can just have 1-on-1 time to confide with her. literally he didn't flirt one bit.

...and while I, you know, don't think masumi has to "allow" anything, it is sweet that masumi's like. o..... kay. and accepts citron's request. but it makes a lot of sense--right now, he's seeing citron leave, like he was going to leave not so long ago. only while his situation seemed hopeless, citron's just Is hopeless. i mean, not entirely, but a dad is different than a country's government, as izumi says. she also mentions, when guy first shows up, that citron, unlike masumi, seems like he's accepted the situation.... but in one like his, can he do anything except for accept it?

speaking of characters i feel like tsuzuru in particular is going through it a little. especially with that clockwork heart competition and the repetition of the manzai (where citron says “You are the best partner, Tsuzuru”) it's like... citron's cheered up tsuzuru quite a few times? and now he's like, gone, and tsuzuru's got to work through a script on a tight deadline without really knowing what to do. spring is family and i think not having citron around is gonna hit everyone really really really hard, but it's gonna hit spring the most. (side note: i think someone, maybe tsuzuru, was like, let's give citron an even BIGGER part as the king in alex in wonderland!! my funny answer for why citron left was that he was protesting against this indignity)

the voice acting's been so great, of course. you can literally hear citrons voice tremble in joy and sadness when he’s telling guy that theatre is fun. and then he implies guy can't feel, and judging by what guy himself states, he at least believes that to be true. that human emotions are beyond him. to which i want to say... GET HOMARE AT THIS GUY!!!!! and then i remembered... wait, despite the focus on spring, this is winter troupe!! we ARE throwing homare at this guy!!! I'm really excited for winter drama as always, you know.

speaking of winter drama, it was SO NICE to get that payoff from nocturnality!! tasuku visiting azuma's old house with him was just so dearly attentive... i love him. azuma having to ask "we’re…. Friends…?" was so real of him though. YEAH, YOU ARE. YOU GUYS JUST MADE MARRIAGE VOWS!!! and even though azuma wore himself out from that experience, I'm glad he was able to find that present from his brother. i really liked how like. feminine the present was, too. very suitable for azuma. also very heartbreaking bc here, from his brother, it's just a sweet comment on the fact that he thinks its nice for azuma to have his hair long, and the reason azuma keeps it long nowadays is because of his brother, in a way... it was good that tasuku carried him back, and good that he went, even if he got so worn out. I'm glad guy got to act and also glad azuma realized just how passionate he is about acting.

back to main plot stuff, citron tells izumi, “for reasons I cannot say, I was forced to sneak out of the country on my own. I could not tell even Guy of this.” this, to me, says that there's stuff regarding zafra that citron knows and guy doesn't. whatever this is, I have to imagine it's why citron forces guy to stay behind. I think he also wants him to experience the magic of Mankai. because he cares about guy, and wants him to be treated well--and citron probably doesn't think that having guy serve as his attendant means he's being treated well.

also THE CHARM!!! "...It is a very special gift that I received from someone." <- that's what he said in the new years new beginnings event to omi... I wonder if guy made that for him? my longshot theory is that guy maybe like, has fragmented memories of some kind? and that's some of what's impacting his relationship with citron. though idk if they'd do something like that since hisoka's got all that amnesia stuff going on with him already... we'll see. (maybe I'm just too affected by citron saying “Please, Izumi… Do not forget me.”) but speaking of treasured things it's genuinely so sweet that citron joined mankai and was like. oh. this. this is worth all the remaining time i have left before my coronation. there's no other experience I'd rank above this one.

other notes: the "your crown, king" from itaru is so good. localization for a3 stays winning! speaking of itaru i love how chikage comes back after citron's disappearance and itaru immediatley clocks that something's up. probably chikage didn't want to hide it, but I think some of it is that chikage's just not as good of a liar anymore.

also if one needs to know the language for zafra… both chikage and hisoka are pretty good at that kind of thing. they're also the type of people who could break into a palace if necessary. just saying!! i'm so excited for what's next...

AND HELL YEAAAAH here's to the reveal. and i'm so glad you immediately connected it back to Clockwork Heart becayse yes!!! yes!!! this is why Citron was so involved into it and this is why he framed it the way he did. All he could think about was Guy in this specific scenario!! And yeah the focus on class especially is an interesting framing from Citron on that regard. I hope you'll like where this is going!

AND HELL YEAAAAHHH!! Three years of hearing you say "i think he's a runaway prince" and just nodding along like hahaha whaaaat craaazyy…… but yeah it was pretty obvious, but i'm so glad you picked it up as quickly as you did. And you're right, while this side of Citron has always been abit present, we really end up seeing him drop the charade for a bit now. Like it really shows how his whole carefree act was, well, a bit of an act, and now that he's actively trying to set pieces on a board to disappear from the company you really see how calculating he can be and how he can weaponize the way he presents himself to get his way. I find it soo interesting. Citron is a fascinating character.

felt about Masumi also, and, yeah, at this point literally everyone in the Spring Troupe except Tsuzuru and Sakuya tried to leave the company lmao, but it was nice to see Masumi in particular react to that considering he's the one who almost left a couple chapters beforehand. It's interesting, as you point out, how Masumi and Citron's situation end up working as parallel to one another, with different stakes and obligations that still make them different enough, while also both chapter still feed on one another.

god yeah for Tsuzuru. Like i think Tsuzuru is always kinda worn thin by his troupen but like, a good way, in a very "big brother who's watching over his loveable but hyperactive little brothers and he doesn't have a minute to think about how much he loves them because NO STOP CHEWING THE TABLE--". And Citron in particular was always keeping him on his toes so Tsuzuru never really had a moment to pause and realize that he's going to miss him a lot and that while Citron was always stiring him along on other things, Citron was always there to cheer him up and find ways for him to work through his issues. It's really effective with Citron leaving, to see how Tsuzuru has to come to term with all of this all of the sudden.

the voice acting is always on point but god yeah. Citron sounds so heartbroken about leaving stuff…. DLKJFDKLFJDLKF IMMEDIATELY GOING "HOMARE CAN FIX IT" until then remembering Guy is a Winter character is so funny though. They ARE going to throw Homare at this guy. That's the price for being a Winter chapter BABYYYYY. We love winter drama in here so i can't wait to see your reactions once it starts happening <3

TASUAZU SCENE TASUAZU SCENE!!! oh my god i cried so hard the first time i read through this part it broke me. yes, the pay off from Nocturnality is UNREAL. this was really the moment i thought "ok so basically you can't read Winter chapters without having read their events more than any other troupes holy shit." And i just… i love how Azuma kept it together during this scene because he's so used to live with his grief, and Tasuku was there in case Azuma broke, but Azuma was sure he wasn't going to. But finding the gift was just a renewal of this grief. Azuma kept his hair long because he thought to himself that maybe his brother would come back if he did, and in a way, a piece of his brother did come back on the way he took care of his hair. It was a new thing adding to his grief and Tasuku was there to help him through it and it was so emotional i just. god i love them. And yeah, seeing Tasuku carry Azuma back home, and Azuma being able to see just how much he loves theater afterward, was just so heartfelt. I also love that like… Tasuku was never great with words, and as a result in the early days he was bad at giving proper support, but now it's not like he got better with words, but he shows his support in little, other ways. and it's just so sweet to see it unfold there.

As for what you point out with the main plot, all i can say is tee hee :) but i love your reasoning so far, you always have good takes.

AND THE CHARM. YEAH. THE PAY OFF TO THAT. i still can't believe just how hard the events build for this chapter like holy shit. Loving your thoughts so far though :3c But god yes Citron thinking Mankai is worth all of the time he had left just makes me want to cry too. He really ended up finding a sweet family there.

"You dropped this" "your crown, king" is still the greatest, most surreal dialogue in a3 i'll never recover. We lost so much the day we lost the a3 english server. I do think Chikage didn't want to hide it, i think also Chikage is lowering his guard around them enough they can clock he's lying, but also i think Itaru became very good at reading Chikage as well - from one liar to the other. So all of this combined, and Itaru knowing the type of person Citron is (like, Itaru had a few serious convo with Citron in the past already - like when his ankle got twisted and only Citron noticed and tried to really talk him into relying on them -- it was one of the rare time Citron's mask dropped and i think Itaru is smart enough to figure out that now that Citron's princely mask is on, that Citron is up to something and stuff).

AND HELP. Yeah we can rely on Chikage and Hisoka now, which makes Spring/Winter combo very useful on this one. Our shady people who will help us with our runaway prince situation <333

As for the rest, i'm leaving it up to you to discover! can't wait to see your reactions when you get there, but it was already a fantastic read!

“Do not pity the dead, Harry. Pity the living, and, above all those who live without love,” - Albus Dumbledore. I am a 3rd year at Hogwarts School of Wizardry, and I have plans to become a dragon-keeper/dragonologist.

WHERE I ARRIVE

I am riding the Hogwarts express on my way to the Hogwarts School of Wizardry for my first day of year 3.

Our (Fred and I) train carriage smells distinctly like coffee and vanilla beans.

ABOUT ME

I get 100%'s on all my tests, assignments, assessments, etc, without fail. I literally am incapable of getting less than perfection on everything. I always get homework and tests done fast with A++ accuracy. I am an excellent student. During a test, I could close my eyes and fill in random answers, and still get full marks on every question.

FLOATING LAND

The Floating Lands were made when the  Humans came, & as war ended,  They settled. Fat clumps, sculpted &  Molded & lifted into Air.  Hovering rocks bobbing in the  Upleftern chunk of the island’s  Disgrace. On them, the dragons built  Temples with a myriad of  Ornate caves. Spots carved with old words  & stories of the island’s birth.  In them, the dragons sat reciting  Poetry of woe and brute wit.  The Elementals sat with them  & listened. The dragons saw their  Admiration and so chose to Teach them of the island’s Voices.

The gods of the elements. Thus, The name was earned. More rebels in  Non rebellious places. The  Dragons were traditionalists. Courteous, rule-following, &  Polite. They never made squabbles,  & friendships neither. They refined  Their taste til it suffocated.  Their poetry was written on  Scrolls made from the fine pressed bark of  Akamari trees, harvested  With the diligence of a flog.  These scrolls held calligraphy of  The Voices’ script, translated into  Dragonic poems & written  With ink of dew & butterfly tears.

What happened last night? Celeste and I were stuck in Pasay after a private exhibit viewing (work-related) because I absolutely refused to traverse EDSA during rush hour on a Monday, so we killed some time by doing work in my car, then we had dinner at this Chinese restaurant where she taught me how to eat xiaolongbao. We killed some more time there then I drove her and myself home, and we had another one of the heart-to-hearts that would usually happen when she and I are together.

Who is the last boy you hugged? I can't remember. It must have been my dad when I bid goodbye to him while dropping him off at the airport.

What was the last thing you thought? How excited I am to see SE SO NEON. I impulsively bought tickets the second I learned they're coming to Manila this November, but it actually stopped feeling so impulse-y when I made the purchase because I genuinely want to see them. It'll be my first indie gig though so I'm kind of nervous...I imagine I'd just be vibing at the very back. I feel like the front would be filled with much younger kids hahah.

Did something happen today that made you angry? Yeah. I had this media crew shoot a program segment on the exhibit I've been handling on behalf of my client, and out of the crews I've worked with so far for this thing, they gave me the biggest headache. They were unprepared with their script, the assigned reporter was unsure what to say and had no clue how he was going to be shot (he was also LATE), and the cameramen were so inconsiderate of the paying guests (blocking their view, asking them to move so they can get their desired frame) I had to tell them off a million times to NOT do that and to fuck off from any customer who actually paid money to see the show.

There's also a room in the exhibit where the visuals are timed from start to end, so once you're in you can't get out, in the same way that you won't be let in if you're late. Anyway, this crew decides this is the perfect time to shoot a frame of the reporter walking into the room, but both the dude and the camera guys took SO FUCKING LONG to get their shot that the exhibit staff just closed the doors on them, and I had to tell the crew that they were going to have to wait 30 minutes for the next viewing.

I specifically mapped out my schedule today so that they can end by noon and I can drive back home to make it to my 1 PM meeting on time, but because they missed that part of the show they had to do the entire exhibit all over again. A big chunk of my time then got wasted and I had to take my meeting in the car. -___- I feel bad that I was clearly visibly irritated the entire time...but c'mon. Don't act like VVVVVIPs when we've bent over backwards this whole time to accommodate you on short notice.

What did you do today? I spent 3.5 hours in traffic just to get to ^ that shoot, went home immediately as I was sick of working outdoors (which I've been doing since Friday), then worked at 10x speed to be able to catch up on work that had been piling up since this morning. After work I bought tickets for SE SO NEON and now I'm eating this really really delicious burger from Wendy's.

What did you do Friday night? I was actually monitoring a media crew's shoot for the same exhibit, just for a different show. After that I was stuck in traffic for an offensive amount of time which I felt bad for my Grab driver about and just gave him a massive tip as both a sorry and thanks. I can't remember what I did after... I think I slept early that night - around midnight - because that entire week had left me really exhausted.

Are you afraid of losing the last person you talked to? Mhm. I'm starting to get that feeling of dread more as I get older, too.

Are you lying to yourself about something? Let's go with a yes. I'm slowly coming to terms with what I know to be true, though.

Is your bed comfortable? As a bed it is, but it's a loft bed so I don't have an electric fan in front of me and so it gets really hot and uncomfortable when the weather isn't cooperating. These days I've been sleeping on my foldout sleeping bags positioned below the bed because at least I have an electric fan in this area.

Does it take a lot to make you happy? When I'm already pissed or uncomfortable, yes; but otherwise it is fairly easy to entertain me and make me smile.

Your best friend says to you now, “lets go to a party and get trashed!”? I'll be more surprised that came from her because she's mostly chilled out these days and I'm the friend who's always down to drink and be loud. Anyway, if it's RIGHT NOW right now, I'd probably say yes but I'd negotiate to go somewhere quieter as I need to go to the office tomorrow and it's not the best time to get 'trashed' LOL.

If someone looked ON your bed, what would they find? Just my comforter and my BT21 plushies. Like I said, I've been sleeping in my sleeping bags these days so my pillows and blanket are here with me below my actual bed.

“A mating bond?” You’re beyond flabbergasted. Not once in the nearly three hundred years you’d been alive had you heard something so dumb. “And it’s accepted when I offer you food?”

“Well generally you have to cook the food and then offer it to me but, yeah, pretty much,” the shadowsinger who is sitting at your table admits quietly. If it wasn’t for the sun shining through the window and casting over him, you wouldn’t have seen that adorable blush dusting his cheeks.

You suck your teeth, brows furrowing, “That doesn’t really seem fair, does it?”

You could tell that you were making him uncomfortable, the feigned nonchalance in your voice. On the inside, your mind was racing, having the question answered of what you felt the other night, like a rubber band snapping against your soul. You had flinched at the feeling.

His gaze moves from you to the sodden table, finger tracing the crack from where you had nearly sliced Cassian's hand off your first time meeting. A shadow of a smile pulls at his lips from the memory.

You hadn’t been so trusting back then.

“I suppose not,” he finally responds, his voice so quiet you barely managed to hear.

Eyeing the nearly perfect icing – red to match the commander's siphons – you didn’t think he’d mind.

Smirking to yourself, you pulled a knife from your drawer and sliced directly into the middle, cutting a large chunk from the dessert and plating it. 

You licked your fingers as you made your way back to the table, the sugary icing sweet on your tongue.

You placed the plate down in front of Azriel and watched as he looked at you with big brown eyes before leaning forward and looking at what you’d served him.

He chuckled faintly at the cake sitting in front of him, the piece crooked and icing messy, but the ‘ass’ written in script was as visible as day.

“Really?” He asked, an amused smile and loving glimmer in his eyes as he looked back up at you.

“What?” You respond, trying to feign innocence, but you knew the Shadowsinger could see right through you, “it was the closest part to your name.”

“You could’ve just given it to me with one ‘s,’” he mused, shadows tickling your ankles.

“Where’s the fun in that?” you asked cheekily, picking up a wedge of cake with your fingers. You offer it to him, speaking gently, “It may not make sense to me fully, but it’s tradition to you so…” you trailed off, nearly touching the sweet to his lips as his caramel eyes bore into yours, “Az, will you be my mate?”

“Yes,” he breaths, parting his lips and taking the piece of cake from your fingers, his tongue swirling sensually around the tips, leaving no trace of frosting. You bite your lip at the sensation. 

He releases your fingers from his mouth, hungry eyes locked on your own. Your fingers tingling with the sensation, 

“So,” you swallow hard, “Is that it?”

“No,” he gives a slight shake of his head, “Now I take you on this fucking table.”

A smirk teases his mouth and he pushes up from the chair. You meet him halfway and your bodies collide, lips crushing in a searing kiss. His hands grip your hips, lifting, and you bury your hands in his dark hair, legs automatically winding around his waist like his shadows. He sets you on the table, the cake falling in the process, the plate shattering. He feels so good and you find yourself breathing heavily from your nose as you exchange open-mouthed kisses. It’s hungry and hard, your lips throbbing from it, but it’s exactly what you need.

“Off,” he mutters against your lips, his fingers playing lightly with the hem of your shirt before fisting the material and tugging it up swiftly, “This needs to come off.”

As soon as the cloth is over your head he’s back against your lips, holding your chin between both of his hands, his shadows twisting in your hair. His scarred touch sets you ablaze. 

It’s your turn to rid him of his shirt, whining softly against his lips when he refuses to move an inch from your mouth so you can slip the garment off. You shove the material harder up under his armpits, Azriel growling softly before he breaks the kiss and finally pulls it over his head. 

You smile into the kiss, fumbling with his pants. He’s got his knives strapped to his thighs as always, so you’ll need to undo those. But your mate doesn’t make it easy. It’s nearly a four-step process to get those holsters both on and off and it requires most of your attention. The pants are their own hassle.

Impatient, Azriel decides that if this is going to go any further, the both of you need to be naked. And he’d like this to keep going, fast. He steps back, hazel eyes dark with lust. His movements don’t falter, having done it everyday for hundreds of years, it’s all instinct by now. The swift movement of his fingers unstrapping his weapons with such grace has you pulsing with excitement.

You bite your lip when his cock springs up, the restricting cloth no longer pressing it against his own leg. 

When he notices you haven’t stripped yourself bare he smiles wickedly, practically ripping open your pants and you lie back, pulling at the legs and peeling them away from your beautiful body.

MY SUPER MARIO MOVIE REVIEW (SPOILERS AHEAD)

Okay, so I have finally composed myself and I will say…man…the Mario movie was fun!

My overall review is its very funny, full of heart and the animation is gorgeous. There’s a lot of unexpected scenes that I found heartwarming and added to the characters/ plot.❤️

However…that being said…the pacing and script is my main concern. I know they have to fit a large chunk of lore for a good runtime, but there isn’t much development.

“But Moon, mario wasn’t all about story” I know, but a movie provides a chance to add story at a cinematic level.

Expanding the world and if not that the characters. If anything, I do not mind the simple plot. Mario needs to save Luigi and work alongside Princess Peach to defeat Bowser. Perfect.

However. I would have really liked more expanded characters. But I will elaborate below because that’s not my only critique.

-I wish the bros got more screen time. Their chemistry and brotherly love was amazing, and I was itching to see more of them together.🥺

-that fight at the end with Bowser tho WAS EPIC! But Luigi was super underutilized omg… I really thought he was gonna have another role in the movie. I think they missed out on the side characters having more of a role or even a conversation…

-Speaking of which, idk, I found Lumalee kind of annoying. I know it’s probably going to set up a future movie…but I thought at least we would get some insight as to why the Luma was captured, why it hates living so much, idk….lol. But I did love the voice of Lumalee, super cute :)

-characterization. Apart from Mario and a LITTLE of luigi, and DK, the rest felt bland… I feel like bowser could have been more fleshed out (but don’t get me wrong, I loved how he had a crush on peach, his song and planned on marrying her. AHHH I LOVED IT) toad could have been more fleshed out. What are his goals at least? Not every character has to have an internal conflict, but he just felt…there. And what a shame because hes charming!

-okay guys, but peachs characterization. I’m sorry, this deserves its own post, so I will hyperlink it here when I finishing writing that, but omg yeah I am not quite attached to her portrayal yet😅 what a shame too because I love her so much…

-wish we spent some more time getting to know Mario’s family😭

-not a fleshed out ending. Hoped that peach would have reacted being on earth, maybe a montage of Brooklyn adjusting to having this pipe that leads to another world. What was the cities response overall when it came to cleanup? I know they have HAD to had some questions why a huge gorilla with a tie was there…and talking! Lol…

-Mario. Omg they freakin ACED Mario. His character flaws, his goals, aspirations, internal conflict, personality, everything I headcanoned/ hoped for. He’s a goofball who loves adventure, plumbing and loves his family. His determination, stubbornness, (RIZZ HE GOT THAT RIZZ!!!) and charm. Ugh. That affirms it. He’s my fav. I wanted to hug him through the screen many times SO BAD!!!🥺❤️

-luigi and Mario’s brotherly love/chemistry. Omg. The flashback of them as babies and when Mario was cupping Luigi’s face and almost crying out of relief. Like omg omg I’m so happy to that attention to detail😭🥺❤️ they love each other so much it’s just… *chefs kiss* I’m hoping for future movies we get more brotherly scenes, I’m still waiting for that piggyback ride🫶❤️

-baby peach. I just…I wasn’t expecting it. She was so cute and the fact that the toads just adopted her and raised her as their own tells goes sweet they are. 🥹 I’m so glad we got some of a backstory for her! But Omg…she was someone’s child then! :o I love lore…

-bowsers singing and the song peaches is a legit masterpiece. If my man don’t make a song like this and doesn’t sing it with that much enthusiasm I don’t want him!!😤😤😂💞but yep Jack black was awesome hehe he had me dying of laughter and he was super intimidating as Bowser!! He understood the assignment 💅🏼

-which reminds me. I love the plot of Bowser wanting to marry Peach and getting jealous of Mario. I wish we got Mario’s reaction of peach wearing the wedding dress tho I don’t think it really hit him that Bowser was trying to marry Peach…

- speaking of which…Mareach! We got a few cute scenes!! Nothing major, but I see that they are making it a slow burn romance 😏😂 okay, I can wait! While I wish we got more scenes, I loved how DK called out Mario’s attempts at flirting, Peach calling him adorable when he had his cat suit🥺🥺 and her giggles when Mario promises to buy her a pet turtle if she comes to Brooklyn. That was so freakin cute!!!❤️❤️🥹 you can tell Mario likes her, and peach has a fondness for him :)))

-CAT MARIO WAS SO ADORABLE DID YOU SEE WHEN HE BEAT DONKEY KONG HE WAS KNEEDING ON HIM LIKE A CAT WOULD AHHHHH-

-the animation and the storyboarding. Everything art related. The score. I wanted to fly when I heard bowsers theme. I wanted to cry seeing the beautifully crafted action scenes and I can’t wait to see the storyboards 😭❤️ illumination went all the way!!! Also the character design!!! I love all of their designs!!!

-the pop songs were a nice touch and the humor was great. :3

-SEEING MARIOS FAMILY AND THE FACT THAT CHARLES PLAYS THEIR DAD IS SO ADORABLE AND AWESOME I WAS FREAKIN FANGIRLING!!!

-also like I headcanoned THEIR MAMA IS SO ADORABLE I LOVE HER SO MUCH!!! No wonder they came out as sweet incredible boys 🥺🧡

-the soundtrack man. They were cooking up in the studio I’m telling you!!! I heard it’s on Spotify now so I’m gonna be listening to it lol

-I love how they can travel from Brooklyn to mushroom kingdom through the pipe, at first I thought it was a star VS the forces of evil thing and the worlds merged until I realized the ending… XD

-I loved all the voices!! I think everyone did an amazing job, I heard a few inconsistencies throughout the movie but meh, everyone seemed excited for their roles!!!🧡🫶

If I can think of anything else I will add, but yeah, I think I had higher expectations for the movie😅 I think if it had a bit more time to flesh out characters, it would have been SUPER great. I loved all the references inside the movie, you can tell it was crafted with passion and love❤️ it was a very fun experience and of course the BRAINROT increased💞

ART NEWS FOR MACA To start, I'm going to skip the illuminarti this month. Couldn't come up with an idea I like and want to take the time to flesh out concept art for my webcomic project. HOWEVER in July, will be opening up another full-body dragon commission slot on Flight Rising, so not done with dragons for sure <3

Also finishing up the last four of the last batch is priority c: Speaking of webcomic, wanted to launch it this summer, but I dont' want to just rush out a half-assed project. Going to take the time to do this proper. I got the script and happy with it, but want to make sure the art/concepting 100% matches the vision. Also want to finish a buttload of pages before launch, make sure all assets are finalized and eyecatching, and get the modest patron set up! ( tiny tiers!) Will share a few concept arts here, but going to keep others under wraps to avoid spoilers c:

Got some Lovecraft stuff that is finally moving forward like a comic idea finally getting the time to get out there and also going to do the Lovecraft poll art at last! This has been simmering on the backburning and I can't wait to crack into it!! It will serve to be a steeping stone into the concepting of the fuller idea/story, nailing down the look of the eldric horrors!

Another goal is to clear out a ton of WIPs I've started that I want to clear out so I can clean up my art file! Some are old, some are ancient, but really want to take the time to finally get them done and post them out here.

Want to also do some fanart pieces because I like things and like to show things I like some love <3

Final goal....to redraw a thing I drew for an awful ex-friend's project as my own. It was a cover for a comic idea. I have since redone the idea in my own world, but feel I need to do something to fully reclaim the passion and feelings of the story core and this feels like the first strong step, so that personal (and super emotional!) art piece is in the works

Unfortunately ask art requests are going to be on the backburner/done when feeling a need for something quick to do, so please be patient about requests! I do get them, just going to take time to do em!

WRITING GOALS

Finish In Time, This Too Shall Pass. I'm dedicating a day to editing and finishing this beast of a fanfic. No doubts about it! By end of June I swear it is going to FINALLY be wrapped up

Finish Coded Connections. This Mass Effect fanfic has actually had a huge chunk written, just need to finish writing it and wrap it up

Jujutsu Kaisen fanfic brewing: Have...actually been writing and working on this because the idea would not leave me alone, so expect one soon!

FINALLY WRITING MY SHORT HORROR STORY COLLECTION!!! I had a crazy ass horror dream last night that I recalled in perfect detail as if it wanted me to make sure it was written down and it has inspired me to pick up the project again.

My Top Korean Resources [2020 edition]

I have been discussing resources with a few people on private message and have been thinking a bit about what resources were the best on my journey.... so here’s my final (maybe) compilation of resources for the year that will hopefully be helpful for anyone who is looking at resources between the beginners and upper intermediate levels.

NB. This list is based off materials I have used in the past and is not an exhaustive list of ALL the resources I have used - it is just a selection of some of my favourite. There are so many Korean resources out there so there might be some that work more for you that I haven’t even looked at.

Course Texts

In my opinion, the perfect course text isn’t going to teach you everything you need to know, but a good course text will at least give you a clear framework to chunk up and guide your studies. I have used a few but the most user friendly one is definitely:

Talk To Me In Korean - they set things out clearly so nothing feels overwhelming and provide a sensible framework to follow for self-study. Other course books tend to be better suited for in-class settings and not great for self-study.

Grammar

The course texts will teach you about grammar but I think they don’t teach you how the grammar structures are related to each other. So I think it is key to look at one or more of these books:

Korean Grammar In Use: Beginners

Korean Grammar In Use: Intermediate

The above series is incredible and a serious MUST for all Korean learners. They clearly and concisely set out the grammar points and show how they are all related to each other. There is an Advanced book as well which I have yet to use and will teach quite complex structures.

Basic Korean: A Grammar and Workbook (I have linked the forthcoming version being released in Dec 2020!)

Intermediate Korean: A Grammar and Workbook

The above Routledge series is great for its workbook feature. The layout is a little academic so it’s not super appealing but the way they explain grammar is clear and relatively detailed. The number of examples included in the workbook is fantastic, providing a lot of opportunity to practice. I haven’t used the Basic book but if it is anything like the Intermediate, it will be a winner.

Vocabulary

The part that people often miss out when learning Korean is vocabulary, because it can be so easy to just follow course texts and grammar books, but those will never teach enough words. To learn more vocab, it is really important to read around. There are so many Korean language books that you can pick up, but here are some books and resources that are catered specifically for language learners that I have loved:

Korean Culture in 100 Keywords - they give a paragraph on different cultural aspects of Korea in both Korean and English and highlight all the new vocabulary for you. The texts are graded from easy to more difficult.

News in Korean - lots of short news stories with translations in English and comprehension questions. Might be targeted more at intermediate learners

Mind Map TOPIK VOCA 2300 - this book sorts vocabulary into categories and shows them as mindmaps. It also gives readers sentences in context and has mini quizzes, HOWEVER it is written in 98% Korean so this is a book that is definitely more pitched at upper intermediate levels and above and teaches vocabulary that is a little less common 

Anki - my most used resource. Everyone has their own favourite for flashcards and this is mine. Anki do spaced repetition meaning that it will constantly test your knowledge on vocabulary, spacing the quizzes/tests depending on how difficult you find the word. It is more efficient than other flashcard platforms, but it is a little tricky to get started and create your own cards. If you want to download pre-made decks, you can, but this works best when you add the words you have learned yourself so that you get decks that are full of vocab that is relevant for you

Beelinguapp - This is an app that has some story books written in both Korean and English. It also has an audio function so you can listen to someone reading the stories in Korean. This is neat for pronunciation and listening, and also identifying new words, however the range of stories are limited.

Gloss - Gloss have a set of online lessons pitched at different levels which takes you through articles or texts (or audio and video), then asks a lot of comprehension questions. It follows a lesson format so it is far more engaging than your regular book, however it is a little on the difficult side.

[EXTRA] Your First Hanja Guide - you might not want to learn vocabulary this way and it is absolutely NOT an essential, but for me it is helpful to visualise the Hanja character when seeing the relationship between words, so if you like learning words like that, then this is the book for you

Listening / Watching

Like with reading, there are multiple resources that you can use to listen to native Korean, but here are some that are specifically targeted at learners

여보세요 - this app/website has a few short video clips and goes through slowly to examine the meaning and new words, then has a number of test quizzes through multiple choice or through speaking (via microphone). There are different clips graded by levels and the app tracks your progress and gives progress reports.

Real Life Korean Conversations: Beginners / Intermediate - this IS a book, but it is best used in conjunction with the audio files. The book gives the script, as well as the vocabulary, and also looks at key grammar points and structures used in the conversations

Speaking

There aren’t many resources that I find great for self-studying speaking - generally you need someone else to do that with you, but here is one that I thought was quite neat:

Teuida - I just did a very quick run through this app as it is definitely pitched at beginners, but I thought that it was a smart way of learning some basic conversational Korean. It teaches you phrases and you have to repeat them back through the microphone feedback function. Then to test your retention, they take you through a mock situation and you have to speak your answers - there is quite a strong focus on getting pronunciation correct. My biggest downsides of this app are that the free sections are really limited, AND they seem to have geared the lessons towards the idea of dating, which I just find so awkward and embarrassing hahaha!

Writing

I’m in the market to buy some writing books and have my eye on some but am waiting until I have the time to work on them, but this book is quite neat for learning different sentence structures and how to construct meaningful answers:

Korean Q&A Sentence Patterns - this book poses a question and looks at different ways of answering it. It also shows variations of the question, then examines form. It gives an example long answer and prompts you to think about how to construct your own response using the grammar and vocabulary given
