You got out your phone when you got a notification, chuckling as you realised that you never changed Max's contact name in your phone after the break up. Not that it mattered - most of your communication happened on Instagram or in person after your break up. You quickly removed the silly little heart emojis you had put there before reading the messages.

Maxie: Hey you, have you still got the same number?

You: Yessir I do indeed

Maxie: Great, how are my babies?

You: Great! Currently asleep together on my bed

You: Little angels

Maxie: Awwe. I'll be over in 15 to get them, thank you for the emergency babysitting

Max: So glad they're calm with someone 🙄🙄

You: Max, I'm always the favourite, know your place

You: Okay, I'm making dinner for tonight, come over whenever. Boys aren't here yet btw

You: Lasagne

"So," Max started as he made himself comfortable, having immediately started sitting on your kitchen counter once he entered your house. "They've not been too bad, no?"

You continued to chop the carrots as you shook your head. "They've been absolute treasures. As usual."

"Hm." He shrugged, sipping the drink you made him. "They're never treasures for me."

"Maybe I'm the favourite."

He chuckled sarcastically to that. "You wish."

You looked him straight in the eyes, smiling sweetly before dropping it to a monotone look. “Are you gonna make yourself useful or are you just going to continue to sit there looking pretty?”

“You think I’m pretty?”

You looked at him, watching the soft smile appear on his lips. You grinned, not missing a beat before replying, “The prettiest princess of them all.”

“Oh fuck you,” he responded, groaning and sipping more wine. He then placed his glass back on the counter before getting down. “What can I help with?”

“Can you start cooking the meat?” You asked, and he nodded, not even hesitating to question you, having seen you make this recipe many times before. You both began to cook together.

As you stood side by side in the kitchen, the familiarity of your movements was unmistakable. The way you  effortlessly passed each other ingredients, the unspoken communication as you both worked in sync - it was as if no time had passed since you and Max had last cooked together.

The clinking of pots and pans, the sizzle of ingredients hitting the hot pan, and the fragrant aroma of your ex’s favourite dish filled the air, evoking memories of the countless meals you had prepared together in the past. The only thing that was different was the fact that the soft music which used to be in the background to stop the silence was replaced with chatter and laughter from the other room.

As you chopped, stirred and seasoned, the pair of you found yourselves slipping into easy conversation, reminiscing about the times that they had spent in the kitchen together. Laughter and occasional shared jokes filled the space, creating an atmosphere of warmth and companionship which made it clear to both of you that your bond had not diminished with the end of your relationship. 

The fact that he remembered your culinary habits made it easy to fall back into the old rhythm, ensuring that you didn’t get into each other’s ways. He still acted the same whilst cooking too, placing his hand on the small of your back when he moved behind you to keep you from bumping into him, high fiving you when he remembered a step without you having to remind him, him double and triple checking that he set the timer. It all felt so… familiar.

Everyone loved your food, especially Lewis, who claimed you had just made him the best vegan lasagne he had ever tried. That cheered you up a lot. The evening was going great. You, Max, Charles, Lando, Lewis, George, and Daniel all ended the evening by playing some games, going between Mario Kart, Fifa, GTA and other video games, to board games. 

“Oh fuck you,” Max said as he landed on one of Daniel’s properties, Bond Street, which had a hotel on.

“Shh, you’ll wake the kids.”

Max looked at you weird when you said that until he noticed the two cats who had fallen asleep on your lap. “Sorry.”

It wasn’t long after that that you realised that, maybe monopoly was getting a little too heated, so you all retired to your respective bedrooms for the night, as they were all sleeping over. You were happy that these sleepover nights with the boys were becoming a more regular thing. You used to do it when you and Max were still together with you, Max, Daniel and Charles in the apartment you had together at the time. You would, obviously, both use your bedroom and Daniel and Charles would share. Times were very different now, though. 

You laid in bed for hours, attempting so desperately to sleep, but it didn’t work. No matter how hard you tried, you really couldn’t sleep. So you gave up. You sat reading for a bit before heading downstairs to grab a drink. Walking into the kitchen, you were surprised to see an oh-so-familiar man. He looked at you, noticing the look in your eyes and simply picking up the vodka he brought, pouring two glasses and sitting on the floor, tapping the space beside him. You joined him. 

He took a sip of his drink before speaking. “You look tired,” he observed. His Monegasque accent was a lot stronger when he was tired and not sober. He watched you lean your head back against the cabinet door after drinking some of the vodka in your glass. “Not sleeping well again?”

You shook your head, chuckling softly. “When do I ever?”

Charles took note of the slightly pained look on your face, stress evident in your eyes. He was silent for a few moments, before finally speaking again. “Is it about Max?”

You nodded, arms falling onto your lap as you felt a fluffy presence make himself very comfortable on your lap. “Hey little one,” you said, looking at Jimmy, who was clearly very comfortable. “Everything we do is reminding me. Everything. Every single time I look at him, every time he hugs me goodbye or smiles at me, or hell, even just looks at me. I feel like it’s killing me. It just... I don’t know. My therapist is on holiday for the next couple of weeks and I think the fact that I won’t be able to talk about this with them makes it worse and I can’t talk to anyone except you, because no-one except you knows and it’s just...” You tried to find the words to describe what you were thinking.

“Shit?” He suggested. 

“Shit.” You agreed, drinking more of your vodka, sniffling softly as you let go of your emotions. 

“Have you thought about telling him?”

You shrugged. “I want to, it’s just never a good time to get emotional. I feel weird being so open with him, you know? Like I know I need to tell him, I really do, but it’s so fucking difficult.”

You heard someone clear his throat in the doorway, head snapping around to see Lando. “Bad time? I can come back. Sorry, I just wanted to get some water quickly.”

“No no, we were finishing our conversation and Charles was about to head up to bed, right Charles?” You asked, noticing how hard he had been trying not to yawn.

“Yes.” He gave you a hug, leaning to your ear to whisper “try and get some sleep, we will continue this when you’re sober, alright?” You nodded, standing up as he left.

The kitchen was silent whilst Lando filled his cup with water. He turned, noticing your red eyes. His voice was soft when he finally spoke, comforting. “Have you been crying?”

You quickly ran your hand over your face, downing the rest of your vodka. “I’m fine, Lan. Don’t you worry about me.”

“Okay. I don’t believe you but I don’t want to make you uncomfortable by pushing it.” He leant in to give you a soft hug, before pulling away. “I hope you end up being able to tell this mystery guy whatever you need to tell him. I’m here if you ever need me.”

“Thank you, Lan,” you responded softly, placing a friendly kiss on his forehead before you left the room, returning to your bedroom and finally managing to get some sleep.

The morning came quickly and you were awoken by laughter downstairs. Sitting up, you took a moment to run your hand through your hair before getting up and going to shower, after which you headed downstairs.

“She lives,” Daniel sarcastically stated, grinning at you as you walked into the room.

“Good morning, Daniel. I'm going to get a drink,” you responded, walking straight past the group and into the kitchen, grabbing a monster from the fridge and opening it. 

“Only a few months with your new team and you're already being a traitor, I see.” 

You turned to look at Max, who was smiling softly as you stared at him, drinking the monster without breaking your eye contact. He chuckled, rolling his eyes dramatically at you. “Did you sleep alright?”

“Yeah, I slept great.” You were lying, of course, but he didn't need to know that. He would question it if you told the truth. “How about you?”

“I slept alright. Didn't fall asleep until like 3 hours after we went upstairs,” he replied, sipping his (shock horror) redbull.

You both continued to make friendly small talk for a little while. “Hey, Max. Do you think I could talk to you about something?” You asked, a little quieter than you had been speaking.

“Of course. You look serious, what is it?”

“Well,” you were quickly cut off by Daniel, who leaned his head around the doorway. 

“We're playing Fifa, are you two joining?”

You looked at Max. Max turned to Daniel. “Yeah just give us a moment and we'll be out, we're both quickly going to grab breakfast.” Daniel nodded before retreating. Max looked at you. “As you were saying?”

You shrugged. “It's nothing important. It can wait. Let's just get our food and go play fifa.”

He placed his hand on your upper arm, causing you to look into his eyes. He started speaking softly, lovingly, in Dutch. “Schat, if you want to, we can talk now. You look stressed and talking about how you feel is so much more important to me than Fifa.”

You felt your breath hitch, a spark of warmth where his finger laid on your arms. You looked at him, watching the way his eyes travelled your face, almost as if he was committing how you looked this close to memory. His eyes were dilated, and he had an expression on his face that you couldn't quite read. “Max.” Your voice was soft, almost breathless. “It's fine, seriously. It can wait.” You smiled, a genuine smile, causing him to nod, before smiling and retreating to the living room. Fuck.

Pining 😫. Yes, absolutely. Of all of fanfic writing, pining is my absolutely favourite flavour to divulge in.

The song! I'm ✨obsessed✨. It's really shown me the vibe you want for the piece written.

I can already see the battle sequences of push and pull. I'm imagining she be more scrappy in her style, her joy in battle gleefully falling from her lips as they dance amongst each other in the thralls of combat; Mihawk always remaining steady and calculated with his blade.

Disclaimer: I don't regularly utilise body, skin, eye, hair descriptors other than using terms that are exclusively feminine or masculine to have the "reader" be imagined in a multitude of ways. The Marine's Mistake. {Synopsis: something horrible occured to rid the warlord of his signature facial hair. Cadets had gathered and began whispering in hushed tones as Garp held a seated meeting with the warlord at a table in a run of the mill tavern. A new transfer does not recognise the sleek cheeks of the handsome gentlemen and immediately decides to approach to flirtatiously engage him over a drink or two. Mihawk is amused.}

An accurate list of the best movies I've ever seen

Hercules

Hercules is probably my favourite Disney movie. And I also think that's where my interest in Greek mythology started. Hades is my favorite villain from this company and he's such a mood.

The Prince of Egypt

Oh dear you don't know how much I love this movie. I know every song by heart and was lucky enough to sing them with my choir. I'm a big fan of animation and despite how old is this movie, I think it remains one of the best ever produced. I cried more times over this movie than over all the others on this list combined.

Friends & Family

I only discovered this film this year but it quickly became one of my favorites. I have never laughed for so many consecutive minutes at a movie. I approached it because it's unusual to see a gay mob-themed movie, but I immediately fell in love with all the characters and the final scene remains one of the most comic I have ever seen.

Treasure Planet

I have a soft spot for animated films about great adventures and self-discovery. Jim has been my only animated crush for years, and his story has always resonated with something inside of me (maybe the desire for adventure and his recklessness, idk). Plus, of course, "'I'm Still Here" is one of the most beautiful soundtracks ever created.

Howl's Moving Castle

One of the first films I saw by Studio Ghibli and my absolute favourite. The love stories created by this Studio are always wonderful, and this one is no different. Plus I always saw myself in Sophie (especially about the crush on Howl) and, well, there's Calcifer, what more do you want?

Les Choristes

Another thing I love: movies about music. It may be that I've been playing an instrument for years and singing in choirs, but I've always cried watching kids rediscover a new side of themselves through music and songs. And these songs are composition's masterpieces. I still remember them all by heart even though French isn't my native language.

A Christmas Carol

I'm slightly obsessed with this story, with Charles Dickens and with Christmas. I was born on Christmas Eve so you can imagine how close this theme is to my heart. I have seen several versions of this story though, and for some reason, this one remains my favourite. It may be that it's different from other more colourful versions and really shows the darkness behind the original story, idk.

How to Train Your Dragon

I literally grew up with this saga: I was 8 years old at the first film, 12 at the second and 17 at the third. I watched Hiccup grow up with me as a friend and Toothless as a fellow adventurer. I'll forever be grateful to Dreamworks for creating the best-animated saga that cinema has ever seen.

The Three Musketeers

This movie is so random that it's perfect. I watched it again recently (after like 8 years) and realized that maybe my daddy issues come from this movie: Luke Evans, Orlando Bloom and the freaking Mads Mikkelsen together, seriously? I'm not surprised it was one of my favourite movies growing up.

A Monster in Paris

The love I have for this film is enormous. I could never get over the beauty of the songs in it. The characters are so well written and Francœur will always be in my top animated characters. It's too amazing to be real.

Rise of the Guardians

I could talk for hours about this film and have not even touched the tip of the iceberg. I have an insane obsession with all the characters, starting with and especially Jack, my top animated crush for years. It's all so perfect that I don't see how people never nominate it when it comes to top animated movies.

The Hobbit

Again, I have serious problems with films about fantasy adventures. I have always preferred The Hobbit saga to its sequel because the story has always fascinated me more. And the main character especially: for me Bilbo >>>> Frodo. And then there's Thorin and Luke Evans. You know, daddy issues.

Mune: Guardian of the Moon

Another French animated movie, another obsession, another adventure, another animated character in my top. This is an example of how to do good animation. There isn't a colour out of place. The settings are authentic, the characters are original, and the adventure they make gets me every time.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

I'm maybe a Muggle, but I prefer Fantastic Beasts to the Harry Potter saga. That's not to say it's better, mind you, but it reflects me more. We all know how we Hufflepuffs (and Ravenclaws) have no real representation in the HP movies, so to be able to have at least one prequel saga starring a Hufflepuff (in which I also find myself far too much) as the protagonist is wonderful. And I have an unhealthy urge to become a magizoologist.

The Greatest Showman

It's the movie I have watched the most of these. I know every song by heart and every line too. It always manages to be a roller coaster of emotions. And it has Hugh Jackman in it.

The Boy Foretold By The Stars

I'm a big supporter of the Philippine's film company. This is one movie is gentle, funny, and not based on the usual drama between Christianity and LGBT+ people (which is what I thought when reading the plot at first). Moreover, another underrated thing, the Philippines' music company here has thrown in masterpiece after masterpiece of songs, perfect for this movie.

Bros

This is my top comfort film in the last year. It's like watching a Hallmark movie but hotter, much more sincere and gay. Very gay. And the relationship between the two main characters is so cute and sweet. And funny.

Top Gun: Maverick

I love this saga but especially love this particular chapter. I love Maverick and his relationship with Rooster, and all the other characters are so well-written. And don't get me started on the story... I LOVE it. There isn't much else to say except that Cruise is a great actor (and a terrible person).

Glass Onion - Knives Out

I love my silly little gay detective. And I have a little passion for movies and mystery series. I found this saga's chapter more compelling than the first one, and the characters gripped me more. Also I fell in love with the setting. Oh and then there are Daniel Craig and Hugh Grant.

Fics I remember killed me on sight

This is how I disappear. (gen) 10/10, work of art, made me sit at the edge of my seat. I recommend everything from this author, definitely DO MIND the tags though! it's dark

If you're into AUs and Lawlight, here's one where Light runs for presidency (Those who stand for nothing fall for anything) and one where he's a cryptid investigator (The forest holds strange creatures), they're both awesome in unique ways. Both are explicit, take that into account

If you're interested in reading different interactions and a very unique twist to the canon events where Naomi is the protagonist, Silent Partner, Unifinished Business is amazing and very suspensey

This one is long, immense, ultra suspensey, with a lot of different characters interacting in interesting ways I never thought before, very lawlight and very explicit, (but I read it all in like 3 days because it caught me BAD and was foaming at the mouth during the entire course of it), also was the founding inspiration to my BB brainrot and design-> Nights

I also made a masterpost of all my favourite meronia (melloxnear) fics back when I was balls deep into it

Finally, my AWESOME friends have made abbie x my BB fics for me back in the days which I treasure with my heart, I feel a bit schoopid sharing them because they're basically my OCs and their story remains a secret but they're beautifully written and. I die. I die everytime I remember they did these for me -> First Christmas (explicit), Stand under my Umbrella (short n funny), Just Another Day (sad and short, based on a comic I did years ago)

ANd also, same author as Silent Partner, wrote Dead Letter Office as a gift to me once, and it melted me into a sugary puddle in the ground

How I feel about L and Mikami

L is special to all of us, love the guy, haven't met a single DN fan who doesn't like L. He's just fun and unapologetic which is what I like about him the most.

Serious answer though, probably it's just a crush, because not only did it end the misery I put my readers through (it's a slow, slow, slow burn, folks), but I think it's the only one of my fics that ends with a proposal (I think. I've written 40 of them, you can't expect me to remember them all, can you?)

Yep, every time @mrsbsmooth reads one of my unfinished drafts and gets mad that it's not finished yet /j

But actually, surprisingly, no. Either I'm not relevant enough for the haters to notice me, or everyone's scared of me.

What's a wip you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

Technically this is not applicable - I have every intention of finishing my 3 active WIPs (Whiskey & Wildflowers, Amelia Can't Win, and Luc & Hen's Sexcellent Kinkventure), and I prefer not to start new chaptered fics until I finish other ones (which often means my fics are in the idea stage for literally years before I even start writing them).

That said, I have a few chaptered fic ideas in various stages of production that I'm not sure I'll end up writing. idk if those count as WIPs (one of them is half-outlined and I've jotted down a few paragraphs, but I have to rework it)

What are your writing strengths?

Honestly, I'm not entirely sure. I've been told I'm good at pacing, and I've been told I'm good at angst - but what strengths make me good at those things are, I don't really know.

Oh, wait. Spelling, grammar, and punctuation. I rock at those.

What are your writing weaknesses?

Dialogue, for one. My biggest struggle in all of my fics (and what I find extremely daunting when starting something new) is dialogue. I never know what my characters should talk about when it's not distinctly plot-related, especially group scenes. Some people are so good at writing fresh dialogue that just breathes so much life into the characters and displays their personality and keeps the reader engaged, and that's something I'd love to do better (both in fics and in real life, tbh - I'm a wallflower)

Secondly, character development. I've literally written over 500k words for one of my OCs, yet I hardly know who she is outside of the villa. I know her struggles and much of her backstory, but I don't know what her hobbies are, what gets her up in the morning, what she likes to eat, what she listens to, etc. I think this also plays a part in my dialogue struggles - it's hard to write characters if I don't know them

Third, and related to number two, is character arcs/relationship arcs. Sure, I can come up with a storyline and write it in such a way that it's enjoyable. But what makes a story extra compelling is the character arcs, watching the characters grow and learn things about themselves and seeing how that meshes with another character and their flaws/strengths and it all comes together like puzzle pieces. I'm not good at that, but I want to be

Thoughts on dialogue in another language?

My favourite love interests are Swedish and Portuguese 🤣 and yes, I love having them slip into their native tongues every once in awhile, or use terms of endearments, etc. I try to be as accurate as possible and give the readers a glossary (though sometimes I'm lazy with that), but it's also usually just little things that you can kind of tell what they're saying from the context

A while ago I was tagged by @die-schwanenkoenigin to list 10 songs I like with names in the title. Thank you. <3 Right now I am way too intense about a song with a name in the title, Major Tom - Peter Schilling. It's been playing on repeat all day long and it's slowly driving me mad. So I will try to break the cycle by forcing myself to listen to something else before I lose it entirely. 1. Cody's Theme - AJJ - It's the kind of song I want to take apart word for word, note for note to analyze out why it makes me feel so much. The angry child is quite relatable but the music itself is so energetic it makes me want to stomp around like Rumpelstiltskin but in a good way, not out of anger. (Which my parents called me when I was a child because I was perpetually angry and frequently stomping my foot in rage.)

2. Paula Ausente - Marta Gómez - She wrote it inspired by Isabel Allende's memoir by the same name. I used to cry my eyes out listening to this. I no longer do but the tenderness and beautiful wording remain just as moving. The first line of the book still makes me tear up though if I spend a second too long on it.

3. Katharina - AnnenMayKantereit - This song came out at just the right name and it even contains my name. As if it had been written for me.

4. Rebecca - Against Me! - This one just makes me feel good and energized. Perfect to scream along to. And queer!

5. Amie - Damien Rice - For years I have been wondering about the reference to Story of O since it appears both in this song and the album title itself is O. Maybe it's about going in a circle and not the book at all because I have never been able to find any interviews that address this. Either way, I love the song.

6. Für Marie Louise/Voor Marie Louise - Herman van Veen - I can't decide between the German and Dutch version so it's both. His voice is like home to me and his words of utmost comfort.

7. Антонина - Юрий Шевчук (ДДТ) (Antonina - Yuri Shevchuk (DDT)) - DDT has become one of my favourite bands, partially due to Yuri's voice. Russian, to me, is the most beautiful sounding language and hearing him sing evokes such a strong reaction I feel it in my chest. It's oppressive and too much and I can never get enough of it. I go a few weeks without listening to his voice and when I finally do again, I wonder how I could live without.

8. Báidín Fheilimí - Sinéad O'Connor - One of my favourite songs ever. There isn't much to the lyrics but she just knew how to make songs her own and give them her all. Anything her voice touches turns into the most beautiful music.

9. Laura Laurent - Bright Eyes - Perfect depression song! The verse "But you should never be embarrassed by your trouble with living" always hits home. As having trouble with living describes quite well how I've experienced a lot of my depression.

10. Paula - Zoé - One last song with my name. I like how my name sounds in Spanish, and I like the song and the album it's on. It's the quintessential autumn music for me for some reason and today I can already smell autumn in the evening air. This took forever – especially editing it down from my original ramblings – but I think the spell Major Tom has had on me is broken. I closed the tab, I think I am free now. hm...technically the song remains the same (spn, t) has the least desirable endingbut imo passive (mcu, gen), which is entirely about grief and denial, is angstier despite "brother died" being a less dramatic problem than "stuck in eternal crushing hell isolation"

to me it's phantom fangs (wwdits, t), my little vampirism-as-trans-allegory project! it's a bit of a bummer at times but to me the ending is so happy <3

i also started a michean fic over the summer that i really like but i doubt it'll ever be finished. at least i never posted any of that though :p

imo characterization/perspective, atmosphere, and prose versatility. maybe pacing? i've gotten comments on that a few times but it's less of a self-observed strength

i don't know what plots are <3 also sometimes my prose wraps around to being a little too circular for its own good so that's both a strength and a weakness of mine lol.

tbh i'm also bad at killing my darlings, especially when it comes to scenes i'm obsessed with, unless i give myself a LONG time to edit. like, on the order of months

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

i'm not really a fan of this as a reader and i prefer not to do it as a writer, but also i'm not going to knock it on principle because i do understand the appeal, especially to people who are writing primarily for themselves and are comfortable in both/all the languages they're including. it can be fun sometimes to see the differences between the language the dialogue and the translation gives (if they provide one) if the language is one i'm also familiar with.

harry potter. y'know...what can you do lol it is what it is. i wrote the kind of dramione angst you'd expect of a person like me who was 13yo at the time

I enjoy my characterization, that feeling of being inside the character's mind and grasping them; I like to think I write fanfic because I can make those characters not sound OOC. I write what I enjoy reading, so hopefully my descriptions and dialogue flow easily.

English isn't my first language, so there's probably a lot of grammar issues. Not plotting the whole fic. Worrying too much about how my writing will be perceived rather than just enjoying the process.

XDINARY HEROES 'HELLO, WORLD!' REVIEW

I said a while ago that once xdinary heroes were let out of the jyp dungeon they would save kpop and i was fucking right.

TEST ME - this feels like a cleaner, more streamlined happy death day, and i love it to death (ha). It's fun, confident and confrontational and shows how much potential these boys have. The music video was also hilarious. (writing credits from jungsu, jun han and o.de)

KNOCK DOWN - grooooovy indeed. the vibes are immaculate from this one. I feel like in the industry right now its some right of passage to have at least one antidrop in an album, but i really dont guve a fuck this song is so cool and shows their potential beyond punk rock unison shouting. (written by jungsu and gaon, the talent is apparent)

SUCKER PUNCH - i was so excited for this one and i was not dissapointed. This is what i want from xh, and you can really tell they're having fun with the vocals and the instrumentation. This song masterfully keeps you on your toes to the point where you have no idea what to expect and when the beat drops you just get caught off guard (like being hit with a sucker punch wow) - a feat i thought in todays music scene to be impossible. This is such a fun song, and I love that this spong was written by o.de, jun han and jooyeon.

STRAWBERRY CAKE - had no idea what to expect because of the title but OH MY GOD WHEN THE CHORUS HITS. The AC/DC influence is clear with the high pitched vocals, but the beat remains unique to xdinary heroes. I FUCKING LOVE PUNK ROCK. (shout out to gunil, jungsu and gaon for writing this one its flawless)

PIRATES - THIS SONG IS AMAZING I CAN'T BREATHE. the raw piano at the beginning is amazing, and the whole song is giving euphoria????? like it sounds like 'mount everest' by labrinth in the best way. I'm so glad they didn't fall victim to the end of the album ballad for no reason curse, this song is chiller than the others but it's so in place. (written by jun han, o.de and jooyeon)

I was going to do a ranking for this album like I normally do for these reviews, but i genuinely can't pick a favourite i love all the songs so much. This may be the best kpop mini album i've ever heard. I'm not kidding stream this MASTERPIECE right now.

Rolling his foot from side to side, Jamie bumped the edge of his shoe against her calf. “It’s like mendin’ somethin’, I think. Like your dress, there.” His toe traced around the corner of a patch. “It’s different fabric, ye know, but it’s – coverin’ up a hole, at least, even if the tear’s still there beneath it.” He huffed out a smile, his cheeks reddening so slightly she almost missed it. “That’s what I always thought, anyway.” There was something distant on his face, a glassiness in the way his eyes drifted up to the clouds above. And there was someone else on his mind. A ghost, sitting with him. Just as Alexander’s ghost sat with her, one hand in hers, dragging her down through the earth that had swallowed him. Jamie’s ghosts pulled him up, instead. Drawing him into the sky. The thought twisted a knife into her chest, somehow. Kirsty MacLaren has never believed in ghosts, or spirits, or men from other worlds. But they sit with her regardless, after the deaths of her father and brother - and the ripples cast by one of them might just change her life.

this is my absolute favourite thing I've ever written, it is THE fic to me. my first time writing kirsty, my first time really actually properly getting into jamie backstory stuff/my post-war games jamie timeline. I do intend for it to be part of a trilogy someday, and also I want to write a proper post-war games longfic from jamie's pov, but if none of those things ever happen then I'll be happy just having written this.

But that wasn’t the point, was it? The point had never been Eòghann, too busy with Sàra to laugh at a silly old joke with him. It stung, yes – but like the snow, he could brush it away easily enough, and still never dip into the yawning gap in his chest that lay beneath it. The first traces of watery light were creeping over the horizon, just where the line of the trees parted into fields. Sunrise would be many hours away yet, the deep blue of the night splitting into lighter colours – and here, caught between night and daybreak, he could almost believe nothing would ever change. If nothing ever changed, then nobody could grow up without him. He wouldn’t turn around and find all his friends sat at the back of the ceilidh-house – and he wouldn’t look down at himself and wonder if he had been left a child, watching them run on ahead. Over and over again, Jamie tries to understand himself.

another fic with a bunch of jamie backstory content, you can absolutely tell I love playing with that setting/those characters ajgkfd. but also this fic (or the thought of writing something like this fic) lived in my chest for probably 5 years before I finally plucked up the courage to write it. it's so so so personal to me and writing/posting it felt very soul-baring and the fact that people responded positively to it just fills me with indescribable joy

ohhh god this is six years old now. but this is also a fic with a very special place in my heart, even though it's old, and I think I'm a much better writer than I was back then. technically there is a third part to this series also!! & I swear to god one day I will write it. (I just need to get over my fear of writing longfics & also learn a whole other language so I can see the film that inspired it which is totally @ettelwenailinon's fault <333)

in the night i lie and look up at you (when the morning comes i watch you rise)

“Settle down,” he said, regretting it only after the words left his mouth. Suppose this was just the Doctor’s way of getting to sleep. But he froze at the sound of Jamie’s voice, eyes almost luminous beneath the angular shadows of the crumpled bedcovers. “I don’t bite or anythin’.” “I know you don’t bite,” the Doctor muttered. But a moment later he sighed, almost shrinking down into the mattress. “My people, ah – don’t make a habit of sleeping. And certainly not communally.” Jamie grinned again at that. “Mine do.” In the shadows, he caught a faint glimpse of the Doctor raising his eyebrows, his mouth tightening into a wry smile. “So I gathered.” Five times Jamie wondered why he woke up alone, and one time he knew.

this one was just. SO much fun to write, it was a real breakthrough moment in me writing a bunch of longer stuff which felt so good. and I think it came out really well!! there's just a bunch of little headcanons and bits and pieces scattered through the whole thing, it's like. this is the source code for how I write two/jamie in a way. also the first time I actually dared to tag a fic as ace two/jamie (and poke at it a little bit more in a fic) which again was super personal & nervewracking

a light in bitter dark (i think i'm ready to go)

Victoria might have liked to stay. It was hardly unreasonable, was it? All the others had, after all, and some of them had stayed in far worse places than this. But it simply hadn’t occurred to him that Victoria’s time might be approaching. Maybe he had grown complacent, really, so used to Jamie walking beside him and promising him forever. It ought to have been his turn to go, after all, now that Ben and Polly had found their way home. But Jamie stood so firm, and made that promise with so much steady confidence. And now the Doctor was starting to wonder whether there was a part of him, buried deep in his hearts, that believed it as much as Jamie seemed to. They all promised him forever, though. In their own ways. And a Time Lord, of all people, should know that no forever really endured. Five times the Doctor couldn't bring himself to say goodbye to Victoria, and one time he managed it.

of course I HAD to get a victoria fic in here ajgkdf. I tossed up a couple but in the end it came down to this one (ashamed to admit that it was in part because of the title. rip. it is one of my favourite titles I've ever used tho). I love love love love writing victoria angst and also lesbian victoria content and I got to do so much of that in this fic <33

Sigur Rós - Ágætis byrjun (1999)

It turns out I've subconsciously hit a theme with these write-ups. None of the albums I've written about so far are in English nor rely on lyrics, instead placing focus on instrumentals, unique vocals and the features of their home language to transmit their message. In their specificity, all these albums touch something universal. That very feeling of universality shines in the gorgeous Ágætis byrjun.

Sigur Rós are not the easiest of bands to get into. Everything about them is otherworldly, from the mix of Icelandic and vocalisations that make up their lyrics, to the meticulous way in which the songs are composed and down to Jónsi's vocals themselves. And yet, speak to any fan of the band and you will hear impassioned stories about how these Icelandic musicians have changed them, what their music symbolises and how it has come to define the good and the bad periods of their lives at various points.

I got to witness this firsthand four days ago, when Sigur Rós played in Portugal for the first time in nine years. From my own teary-eyed point of view I saw people from dozens of countries, of all ages, alone, with family or their partners all converging in a room with one common goal: experiencing the catharsis of a band whose beauty means so many different things to so many different people. Earlier in the evening I spoke to a couple who got married to Starálfur - a highlight of this record - and a teenager a few years younger than me whose fond childhood memories of watching the Jónsi-scored We Bought a Zoo had brought her there. The tales go on and on, some of happiness, some of tragedy. The point remains - Sigur Rós are a generation's soundtrack to the most important memories of their lives.

The beauty of Ágætis byrjun starts with its packaging. The title means "A Good Beginning" in Icelandic, and with the album cover portraying a foetus surrounded by deep blue and emitting a heavenly white aura, images of birth, stasis and bliss might come to mind. To me, a lot of this album is just that - the security and peace of a mother's womb and the idea of leaving the darkness and embracing the strangeness of a new world. The (translated) lyrics to Svefn-g-Englar, topped with the iconic tjú, a sound that Icelandic mothers whisper to soothe their babies, and the "explosion" of birth at the 6 minute mark reflect this perfectly:

(I) am here once more (anew) Inside of you (It is) so nice to be (in here) But I can’t stay for long

I float around in liquid hibernation (in a hotel) connected to the electricity board (and drinking)

Much like in the entirety of pregnancy and birth, quiet and bombast are present and live hand-by-hand throughout Ágætis byrjun. Moments like the final crescendo in Viðrar Vel Til Loftárása or most of Ný batterí are loud and awe-inspiring, offering some of the most angelic, gorgeous highs ever put to music. There is so much to look for here; its texture is pristine, its vocals transcendent, its pacing expertly crafted with even transitions between some of the songs. I've mulled over and over about what my favourite moment in this brilliant hour of music is - and I can't decide for the life of me - but everything about Olsen Olsen, namely its slow progression and celestial flute, always manages to bring me to tears.

Sigur Rós is undoubtedly one of the defining bands of my life, and Ágætis byrjun one of my all-time favourite albums. I have felt joy and sorrow to the sound of Jónsi's voice an unbelievable amount of times throughout the years, and the gratefulness I feel toward them is infinite. When I saw love and empathy flood that concert hall in Lisbon four days ago, I knew I wasn't alone.

13. How do you deal with writer's block?

Honestly, if it's just for one wip I'll work on another or work on snippets for that wip I've a writer's block for. Sometimes I'll just watch my favourite tv shows or movies and inspiration kicks in same goes for songs. I also write quotes for my characters.

Oh, this is a hard one! I've several. I'll do one for the three wips I work on most even though I've like 12 wips waiting.

The stars were silent as the man collapsed amidst the remains of the ancient temple on the planet. They remained silent as the burning pain in his chest became excruciating and he scrabbled desperately at the crimson dirt ij an attempt to get away from it. Then it was as a falling of a great tree and darkness without stars and light consumed him.

Space Girl:

It was beautiful to witness a star dying, as millions of colours burst into one and shattered time and space.

One is "Veni, vidi, vici" by Gaius Julius Caesar, meaning "I came, I saw, I won" and "per aspera ad astra" by Seneca meaning "through hardships to the stars".

my favourite work(s) so far has been the delicate series and gravity. I love love love comfort fics and I always sincerely hope that anyone reading them also gets the same comfort as I do.

since I'm yoonkook biased, it's either one of the two. recently, koo has been on my mind alot for goodness knows whut reason but I'm not complaining ^^ it's not like he doesn't live rent free in my head with 6 other men either way T-T

I've experienced writer's block way too often, more than I can count. it doesn't even need to be for pieces on tumblr, it could even be for articles I used to write for my school magazine !! now that I've passed out, the only thing occupying my mind nowadays is writing, since I have nothing much better to do.

songs, always. with or without writer's block, I'm always looking for inspiration in songs. prompts sometimes do find their way in my pieces but that's just because I found a way to fit them in ^^

my ocs will always remain nameless unless it is very much needed for a story. it is for myself that I write for and then for everyone else who reads it. tho I do try to write gender neutral fics, since I identify as female, I always end up writing from the fem!pov.

when I listen to a song or think of an idea, a few ppl do stand out and I end up choosing one. for instance, for my first fic, when I listened to litn by seori, taehyung immediately popped into my head. when I started writing more, yoonie and koo were more prominent whenever I was struck with inspo. but to answer your question, no ^^ I end up writing with the person I had in mind.

I cannot write a series for the life of me. I either cannot keep up or go ahead and write everything down. the one "series" i've stuck to has to be the delicate!family. it's the cutest story i've written so far and I always hope to write the best pieces for that au.

I was reading Say you'll see me again, even if it's just pretend.

And it took me a long long time to get through it while I usually finish books quite quickly became you guessed it. It made me cry out a waterfall everytime I picked it up. (I'll leave a huge comment on the work itself to appreciate it)

God I swear I could like write a project paper about how much I loved this book and how amazing I thought it was. And I really thought that lil snippet of Max and Charles in the story was interesting, so I went to your profile to check your other works and oh god I never realised that almost all of my FAVOURITE works were written by YOU!

In the night we're wild eyed is the BEST thing I've read on AO3 ever. It'll always be I am in love with that story I have literally told atleast 10 of my friends about how talented this writer must be and how I absolutely got mesmerized by this world you presented to us.

And Give this a chance, it's not just another song and dance again I thought it was so well written I just never realised it was by the same person. I am in AWE of you. How have you consistently created such long pieces of fiction with such immaculate writing and such incredible story lines who feel absolutely different from one another. Your max and Charles in all the stories remain realistic yet fresh so do your George and Alex. I swear I'm gonna read all of your works. Going to take a lot of time but it'll be worth it.
