basically: gravity falls but the stan twins are kids and mabel and dipper are the adults in the plot of gravity falls

as well as that, I wanted to switch the villians. Bill is human and takes the place of gideon, and instead of obsessing over mabel he pursues ford (he's twelve as well lol. BILLFORD FOREVER!!!)

whereas gideon takes the place of bill, a chaos god (maybe i'll make him the shape of the star on his telepathy tent instead of a triangle, or I might tweak his human design a bit, idrk) who's obsessed with mabel.

people always put dipper in the place of ford (in the portal) bc he's a nerd, but to suit the switch of villans, mabel is getting sucked into the multiverse!

I like to think she got lulled into a false sense of security with gideon like in the show in the same way ford was with bill, but with fashion instead of science. (like when their still friends w lil gid and gideon brings her to get her nails n stuff done)

so in my au mabel is very into fashion the same way ford is into science, a prodigy with a insane talent for knitting, sowing, design, the whole shabang

while dipper is similar to the usual show, nerdy sci-fi obsessed wise guy but nothing too crazy

but together mabel and dipper solved mysteries in california together and someday dream of becoming "the mystery twins" and searching (in parallel to the stans) on a hot air balloon/ plane/ something sky related

but mabel gets offered a place in a big league fashion school, and they're going to come and see her project for the school fashion fair

dipper (like stan) is disgruntled by the dress interrupting their dreams and future together (parallel to dipper and mabel vs to the show. kind of)  and puts his hands on the dress angrily without thinking, staining the dress with his sweaty palms (like how stan is in the show, and how ford described him in journal three: "an abnormally sweaty 12 year old....perhaps he takes after stanley")

when the fashion gurus or whatever show up to see mabels design, they see the prints and dimiss her, ruining her chance at getting into her dream school. seeing the sweaty hand marks, thinks immediately of her brother, confronts him, the same as the scene in a tale of two stans essentially

d: "i...mabel, maybe this isnt all bad...at least we can go...be the mystery twins?"

m: "how could you say that?! why would I want to do anything with the person who sabotaged my future!"

so where does mabel go to college? you (probably) guessed it...backupsmore!

she begins a degree...yadayada, smart people stuff, clever references to the original show, blah blah blah, goes to college with candy and grenda (they take the place of mcgucket)

annnnd now a scene I over thought way too much) all her life, mabel had been teased for her crooked teeth, her messy hair, her stickers and glitter everywhere...etc, and she grew fascinated with beauty in imperfection, the whole maximalism, out of the ordinary/norms of fashion (the ford deciding to study abnormalities bc of his six fingers scenece is so important to me for no reason)

she grew curious of a certain place where the impossible seemed possible...

gravity falls! (how surprising)

and what, my dear reader, was our main man dipper up to?

well, much like stan, he struck gold in sales. or...selling by yourself anyway, as he'd been trying to selling his scifi abnormality comics, board games, fact books/ something like that bro. he was smart-ish, giving lectures ab science-y stuff in different colleges, not happy at all and js about providing for himself. he misses mabel...alot.

over with mabel, she's experimenting with the weirdness of gravity falls, enjoying it all with her friend, gideon! (spoiler alert: he sucks)

but at the end of the day...what is she waiting for? she can't just...be good....she has to remembered! to be put down history as...one of the greatest designers of all time! heck...what is she even working for if not to be put down in history? what has she studied for? she has to round of her studies with a bang!

luckily gideon has a few ideas...

g: you see...what if...you built a portal to another dimension? has any designer ever done that before? sent their models and crew to another universe? think...how you'd go down...the most revolutionary name in fashion! you'd be leading fashion AND science!"

mabel enlists the help of candy and grenda, blablabla whatever...mcgucket/ford situation all over again, someone sees the nightmare realm, traumatised forever, yadayada, mabel goes insane bc gideon is "less than nice..." (can you tell I'm getting lazy lmao)

dipper is just ab scraping by, making money by doing lectures and the like, hopping state each time he loses a job with a new name so he can work for another prestigious college w out the track record and trying to publish his scifi silly novel thingy when he gets a post card through the door of his motel:

d: "tch, "mystery twins." how could I be so stupid? here's a simple mystery; why did mabel's brother travel four hours to roadkill oregon for her? because he thought his sister CARED for him. wanted to see him, even. possibly because he missed her. but dont worry, it wont happen again. some sister you turned out to be."

he does the whole push into the portal, ahhh mabel come back, oh no what have i done thingy. he immediately tries to opperate it, fails, blablabla. when he realises shes gone and not coming back, he screams, for a minute, half an hour, an hour, he doesn't know, he just cant do anything else.

doesn't sleep. for a long time. he doesn't really move off the couch, actually. he eats so he doesn't faint. or sleep. he doesn't go anywhere so he doesn't have to fix himself up or wash, because he feels he doesn't deserve the luxury of self care or nice food or comfort or rest. but eventually the food runs out and he decides he can't die without bringing back his sister.

at the shop, it's the same scene as with stan, "oooh smart science-y fashion person, do u give tours?" he has no money so he has to, it's shit at first but improves over time and so the mystery shack is born.

as much as dipper always loved the supernatural, he decides that he doesn't want another run in with the portal/ paranormal accident so all the attractions are fake. dipper is just as stressed and unhappy as before, but the tight clockwork of his life keeps him together. make money with the shack, save mabel. that's all that's keeping him here.

anywaysss to explain the donor thing further:

First off I want to establish that I dont think these cats have the same connotations or feelings around uh... reproduction, as us humans. Ofc they can have accidental pregnancies but i dont want to think abt the connotations abt that tbh. to me they mostly mate just to have baby.

because of this there isnt anything emotional between the donor and the cat who wants babies, they also dont need much of a relationship. I think the main criteria is "is the cat strong and with good genetics?" and "will they do this with no strings attached?" the donor needs to be just some random cat that isnt going to show back up wanting the kits, which i think is actually not too hard to find in loners outside the Orders since they are often just wondering travelers who dont want to be tied down. I think that there are a lot of toms who like the idea of spreading their bloodline with no need to be involved with the kits at all as well.

I think that they would be a bit picky about who they choose, each Order also has their own values on the kind of traits that are most important, so i think they would lean towards a donor who is closer to their Order's idea of a good choice! ex: Wind would want a slender swift donor, and maybe Thunder would want a big tough donor. Tho cats cant be too picky, there are only so many loners wandering around near the borders to choose from (ex: Ravenscourge's donor was a very littol guy lol).

also meta things: basically donors cease to exist after they serve their purpose, i dont want them to visit or come back as a part of the plot. I like the idea of most donors being wondering toms who just travel around and don't stay in one place long, which can explain this. I also will simply assume that each donor is a different cat, no repeats for the good of the gene pool even if in reality there probably would be several different litters sired by the same Outsider.

So Basically while i love it in the original canon context, there is a bit that needs to be explained first:

i have a big head canon that agitha is in fact a fairy, the child of a great fairy, that abandoned her and her father, who died when she was v v young

her father had a banker that handles her estate and gives her a little pension until she becomes an adult and can fully inherit her fortune, and thats the explanation i have for why she's so young and already living by herself

beyond that, she's a v lonely girl who doesnt really seem to get on with anybody in town, the only other npc that talks about her really is the guy thats always peering through her window, and it seems he's afraid of her, or thinks she's weird

i chalk this up to otherwordly heritage, but even just within the context of the canon its pretty clear that people either fear her or are at least uncomfortable with the way she acts, and her hobbies

and then there's link, who is open and eager to help, even if its something silly like collecting bugs (which is of course not silly to her at all), he never balks when she acts off putting

on his part of course link is used to dealing with kids, he's the village babysitter after all (which is a bit problematic to play into a ship but what can ya do lmao) but she's also not really. like the kids he would look after? even without the fairy stuff, she's one of those 'aged beyond her years' types, thats just what happens when you're taking care of yourself and living alone most of your life, you dont develop normally and it makes you simultaneously too old and too young (maybe much like being 17 or so and suddenly finding yourself with the fate of the entire world resting on your shoulders 👀)

so now let's talk about link and what the plot would do to him! something that i like about tp link is that he's one of the older versions we get to play as, and he also feels v much like he has an active, established life and a community he's a part of, he has responsibilities to and cares about the people he lives with, which makes it feel all the more heart breaking when he's ripped away from it because of being the chosen hero, cause even after everything, and During everything, his experiences because of the plot are going to make him a fundamentally different person, he Came Back Different if you will, and by the end of the game midna leaves, he has no personal connection with zelda in this specific version, and he feels a bit out of place even now when he returns home, he feels v much alone in this world now even after he starts to settle again

on top of that, when he's in his wolf form, everybody is afraid of him. and on a logical level he does understand that of Course theyd be afraid and of Course they wouldnt recognize him, but on an exhausted and traumatized level, it hurts him v deeply when people he's known his whole life are afraid of him

except for agitha, in fact she isnt phased by him being a wolf at All, and i think that must surely be a comfort to him

i think one of the most likely scenarios for them getting closer over all is that maybe he gets injured as a wolf, and doesnt have anywhere he can go where they wont be chased away, so he ends up going to agitha's house to try and rest up in a safe place, scratches at her door and all, and she does in fact let him in because she's not afraid of him (this is contingent on the fact that for whatever reason he cant turn back human at the moment, its been a while since ive played the game and i dont quite remember how it works so bear with me here lol) which leads him to trust her more in his human form as well, and they get closer over time because of it

she'll of course figure out link and the wolf she lets in sometimes are one in the same eventually but i'll have to iron out the details a little more for all that

so i guess at the end of the day, the appeal to me for agitha and link is that by the end of it all, they're both out there isolated by circumstance and can seek comfort in each other, even after the dust of the story settles

have some disjointed Thoughts™️ that have been circling in my head for years:

Thought One:

as the Agitha Expert, while everybody else is making dirty jokes about her liking the way it feels to be pinched by a beetle, i know that she's Stimming, so there is a scenario in my mind that plays out where one day while she's pinning insects as she does, she starts putting the pins in her fingers and palms, not enough to hurt or even bleed (think like acupuncture), she's not really thinking about it, she's just Feeling (in the case of her being a fairy, its not just the Autism, its a matter of like. 'i feel disconnected from the things and people around me, this is my life but this is not my body, and these pins are a grounding sensation' sorta thing (so still also the autism but with Extra Flavor ljkfds))

and link walks in to bring her a new bug and obviously is thrown off guard about it. they dont really say anything, but he comes over and takes her hand and v carefully removes the pins, and this is a big turning point for them because the thing about link is he always comes across as v brave and unshakable, but here now, while she's not in any danger or even really hurt, his hands as shaking because he's not sure how to approach this situation but he's caring for her regardless, and it really hits her that this is someone not that much older than her that is absolutely just a guy and nobody is taking care of him despite all the care he puts into everybody around him and how scary that is

Thought Two:

if we're explicitly going with the idea of fairy!agitha, she's going to live a long time, and eventually go into the woods to be a greaty fairy probably, so i imagine centuries down the line, another reincarnation of link finds her, and she recognizes him but doesnt Remember him and it fills her with an intense longing and sadness and she doesnt know why but she wants to give him anything he could possibly ask of her

Thought Three:

sometimes when i think about him turning up at her door as a wolf, i think about old myths about werewolves where the only thing that can turn them back into men is their name being called by someone who loved and trusted them and it breaks me all to pieces

one day i wanna write something for them, even if its only vaguely connected drabbles or something

(Alchemic) Al didn’t get his whole body taken and only most of it which definitely traumatized Ed for sure

(non-alchemic) Al got the same sickness as their mother which would actually spread through the blood slowly and once it got to Al he had enough time to chop off most of the infected parts and save his life and give him prosthetics and such

In this wasteland au they work as sheriffs if I’m not mistaken and I’m guessing mustang team and everyone else does as well and I see that this is a town where they are only present but they are part of a bigger organization where it is basically the military in canon but I’m opt for just kicking the whole military and having it be domestic life and no homunculus

But I don’t mind following canon but I have a few ideas on a different plot line that could work for the boys but tell me what you think :)

i knew i wanted roy and his posse to be sheriffs/law enforcement, while ed and al were kind of bounty hunters in some way? so they would interact in the way that roy would be like pst. hey. fix this for me and get this guy. and then they would. but they would still have some kind of autonomy, separate from law enforcement, and could still get in hot shit with other town sheriffs lol

BUT YEA all in all i didn't really think about the military or the military coup too much? i tbh have very little knowledge on wild west politics n all that, so i don't even know if it could even GO as big as it does in fma, since i'd imagine it mostly be limited to small towns.

most i've thought about homunculus is like... lust being one of those saucy ladies in a saloon, but literally nothing else lol. maybe they could be. crime lords? bandit leaders? the kind of fellows who organize attacks on trains/townsfolks/carriages?

🔥 kind of insane that "the yugioh girls are good characters and deserve just as much respect as the male characters do" is a bit of an unpopular take but some anime fans are stuck in 2005 livejournal mindsets and do still act like girls in yugioh existing are the most heinous crime against yaoi possible. COULDNT BE ME!!! yugioh girls get behind me i love you I WILL PROTECT YOU!!!

theyre such a weird case a lot of the time too, though, because with the way yugioh works we equate "doing big, heroic moments" with dueling, because...well. This is the Card Game Dueling Monsters show. and the girls really indeed Do Not Get to Duel A Lot (let alone Win a lot) so in that department especially YEAH THEY REALLY DONT GET TO DO MUCH. And you get instances like poor fucking Rio Kastle, who's fridged for half of Zexal in the hospital, and Akiza JUST NOT GETTING TO TURBO DUEL EXCEPT LIKE TWO TIMES, MAYBE. GOD. But something I've noticed alongside that is because dueling = The benchmark for doing big plot actions, when the girls Do get to do some pretty cool stuff that isnt a duel, it doesn't really get dwelled on or talked about too much in fan spaces, and it's a shame!

I will never stop proclaiming that the DM anime was so real and right for making Serenity Wheeler the one to dive into the ocean to save her brother after the pier duel, it's one of my favorite scenes in all of Duel Monsters. SO much bravery and determination in that action. HER EYES WERE STILL HEALING AND SHE DID ALL THAT STILL!!! WAHHH. and god Tori, Tori Kotori Zexal my daughter MY BABY, everyone wants to be like "ohh she doesnt do anything shes annoying" MISS ME WITH THAT!! It sucks that she doesnt duel, yeah, but she does SO FUCKING MUCH over the course of Zexal. She piloted a spaceship out of a black hole. She followed Shark and Kite to go save Hart and Yuma and she was BEATING THOSE LITTER BOTS TO DEATH to save her friends!! She's by Yuma's side for all the incredible bullshit he has to deal with and without her I think he would have just completely fallen apart. She's so tenacious and loyal and fearless when it counts the most and it's such a bummer there's, like, no Tori meta.

I guess that all isnt too much of a hot unpopular take is it??! hrm. I guess it boils down to "some people have equated "not dueling" with "annoying and bad character" re: the girls of yugioh, which imo is a kneejerk borderline-to-genuinelly-misogynist reaction manifesting over what's really a bad writing choice completely out of the characters' hands" and you should really give yourself a chance to take a look at Everything the girls actually did get to contribute to the plot, because you can really find some great character insight and actually pretty important to the plot gestures in there. tl;dr 🔥 if you think ygo girls are annoying im turning you into a golf ball and putting you into a sand pit.

so i wanna work on one way dream right. im very eager to get into the meat of the story and make it A Thing. i want it to be A Thing so so bad, like mirrors is a thing. but to make it a thing, i have to have characters, because the way i make stories is to make characters and then build the plot around those characters--its just easier for me that way. BUT, to have CHARACTERS, i have to have a world to put them into. mirrors already had a pre-established world--the dragon ball world. all the systems were there already, as well as races, lore, deities, power structures, etc. but with one way dream i gotta do all that shit from scratch and i have honestly no idea where i want to go with it yet..

originally i had gone into owd thinking that it was going to be my Big Universe that had all the things i wanted to have in it. angels/demons/deities, aliens, fighting, friendship, transformations, powers, multiple universes...lots of stuff that mirrors already has. but now that im actually working on owd, im starting to feel like maybe i dont Need all that stuff in the world?? b/c its NOT mirrors. its its own thing apart from mirrors, its different. honestly at this point its more like sonic but im trying to make it different from sonic too. there are elements from lots of stuff i want to use but i dont want it to be too much like any of them, i want it to be a nice mix.

i dont know what i want to use and carry over from mirrors and other pieces of media i enjoy like dragon ball and ina11 and sonic and so on. i feel like maybe also me feeling like it doesnt need all that stuff is bc its Starting to feel like sonic world which is fine on its own but its not necessarily what i want owd to be. i really have to figure out what i want <:( its so hard..

tl;dr - she’s the daughter of an Urbanshade employee who’s trying to unlock the secret ending of Pressure, which you get by making out with a computer really hard (and sebastian maybe).

Yonnie’s dad (Malcolm Polaris) raised her with the sole purpose of having her become a scientist like him in order to work with him at Urbanshade. unfortunately, he ended up committing a bigger sin than any of the ones he had committed during his 10+ years working for Urbanshade: he conceived a theater kid 🤯

Malcolm persists in his goal despite Yonnie’s lack of interest in science. he personally homeschools her throughout her entire life, purposefully keeps her isolated from other people her age, and takes her on as an intern/assistant at the Hadal Blacksite when she’s 23 (so in like. 2022). she isnt allowed near the more hostile monsters, but she still expresses frequent disapproval to her dad about the things she does see (or hears about secondhand). although Yonnie sticks by her complaints, she simultaneously feels like a disappointment for not being interested and doubting her dad.

she’s still working at the Hadal Blacksite by the time Sebastian breaches containment. Yonnie and her dad are able to evacuate, but this event is pretty much the last straw for Yonnie. she’s essentially like “hey. maybe this whole situation is kind of deserved? like maybe this is just one of many consequences that Urbanshade needs to start facing in order to atone for the more. uh. morally grim things we’ve done. and we have a LOT to atone for.”

and Malcolm is like “god you have just been one big waste of time huh. just a consistently ungrateful, consistently disappointing mess. you think we have something to atone for? you wanna make peace with the monsters? then get in a sub, go back down there, and do it yourself — because god knows nobody else is going with you.”

and then Yonnie, fueled by the desire to feel like shes doing something good for someone for once in her life (mixed with regret for problems that she technically didn’t even cause), actually does go back down. nobody is tracking her. everyone fully expects her to die, including her dad. the expendable protocol engages as normal.

Yonnie wanders around for a bit before encountering Painter. he’s the only sentient, non-hostile, responsive entity that she’s come across so far, so she offers him an escape. she says she could bring him back up to the surface and let him go free. Painter tells her about the promise he made with Sebastian and says that if he leaves with her, Sebastian has to be allowed to come too. Yonnie is like “they will gun Sebastian down the millisecond he breaks the water’s surface so. probably not. but i just want yall to be free, so i guess i can help you with your plan!”

she meets up with Sebastian, who doesn’t kill her on sight despite the fact that she’s an Urbanshade employee because they’ve actually met before! plot twist 🤯 they spoke briefly after she had become an employee, and Yonnie’s sense of basic fucking human decency and empathy really left a mark on Sebastian (although he’s still kind of cautious around her) 🥹🫶🏽 truly riveting. Sebastian agrees to let Yonnie help him out. since Yonnie isnt a prisoner, she isnt required to follow a navi-path and therefore wont be penalized (e.g. executed) for going off course, so she has access to areas that expendables dont. with this advantage, Yonnie is able to gather up more data for Sebastian than an expendable would. she also collects supplies for him to sell in his shop. time goes on, everybody bonds, yap yap yap.

how do you think the scene rn should have gone?

i’d trim the fight and prioritize building tension, mood, and plot/character progression.

For the cultists: their identities might be plot relevant as the chapter develops, but as of now the only reason i can think of taking their characters in that direction is fun and expansion.

Going off of that, take it the Night In The Woods route. Never give an explanation to who the cultists are. If mayview is a weird town with weird people, then that’s all we need to know. Limiting your information just makes dread that much heavier— it’s much, much more ominous to never receive a face and be forced to sit with the truth that the people in skulls and robes could be anyone. Could be your neighbor. Could be your teacher. Someone you love.

Which isn’t to say they aren’t oop and baxter. But the confirmation takes away from any suspense or weight. Oop has a daughter in the hospital? Would do anything to get her healthy again, even if it meant getting mixed up in shady work? thats one thing im actually REALLY like from this scene, but the reader is shown too much. why do we need to see from their perspective, to take the story with them.

Here’s my proposal: what would happen to the tension if we stayed with Ed?

Ed watches Crush goes off alone and doesn’t think much of it. Hes pushes them around and is a good fighter so whatever is going on probably isnt a big deal. Ed goes back inside, knocks on isabels door— they wanted to get better at sticking by her side, right? even when it’s uncomfortable? So go stick to her.

We spend some time with ed and isabel, probably their first time alone together since Ed ditched her. Is it awkward? Do they acknowledge it? Talk about it more, since it got resolved super fast back in ch5? Do they talk about her dad, or how she thought she was doing the right thing with flipflop but let him down just like eightfold, or does she change the topic altogether and avoid talking about her problems, again. Regardless of what they talk about, the scene develops and the reader is lulled into a sense of security. Our focus is here and the world doesn’t go beyond isabels bedroom.

The pacing makes it clear that some generous time has passed. Maybe Ed goes down to get a cup of water.

Crush hasn’t come back.

THEN we would go to the fight scene in its last stages. The reader is shoved into it off-kilter, sudden, jarring. This is how the story can exist past its main cast without splitting on unnecessary tangents- the world does exist past isabels bedroom, but we only need to know enough to influence the mood and plot progression.

Crush being one of the dojo’s best fighters is shown not by boasting or special moves or telling the reader hes strong— but because how long hes been able to keep at it. Which, being the end of the fight, he is now struggling with. We get just enough info on Rex and Ape’s motives to gain the scenes purpose before Crush gets taken down, but nothing more than that.

Maybe the next day Coach Oop has a black eye. The narrative never focuses on it long enough to answer, just keeps with the club. This builds mood while expanding the world of Mayview without being overt about it- we only know so much. There are lives outside of them that we aren’t privy to. There are things we don’t know.

sorry to bother, just wanted to ask if you have any tips on how to start off a fic.. i have an idea ive been sitting on for ages and i have so much planned but i just... can't start it!! how did you start an insulting indifference...

oh man.... im so ass at giving advice.... but thank you for asking anyways! let's see.... this got long so im placing a read more

the way i write is very based on improvisation. i either go into a fic with a very very broad idea of what i want to accomplish, and let the story take me wherever it wants. if i think of something randomly that i want to write, then i go to the bottom of my word document and pound out about two to three sentences IN the moment or scene, just to set the tone. i typically end up hoarding about 3 or so pages of disconnected story moments or character dialogue. by doing this, i can also foreshadow events or make parallels that span across several chapters in the story.

work OUT OF ORDER!!! its fun!!! it keeps it exciting!!! there was one fic i wrote where the last chapter was the first ever thing i wrote for it, and so i had a better picture in my mind about how the entire thing would GENERALLY play out. i like to leave the details in the moment, which is where the improv aspect comes in. if you let yourself ride the tide of the story, you wont have to force it in certain directions as much. sometimes you have to correct its course, but mostly youre there to cruise along with the story thats coming to life!

think of it like... a bunch of big dots. and these dots are all connecting by lines. like a big web. everything in the dots are BIG STORY BEATS, and the lines are the exposition between them. the lines don't have to be straight, either. they can have loops, or wiggles, or tiny tiny dots of their own. it may not be as exciting as the HUGE dots, but its still necessary. then again, maybe it isnt! dont feel like writing a scene? skip it! trust in your readers' abilities to make inferences based on all the other context clues you give them in the text.

as you can see, i suck at giving advice HAHA. my brain is.... not very good at sorting the chaos into something tangible for others to understand.

if you have an idea, just run with it! write for the sake of writing SOMETHING. anything is a good starting point. ANYTHING. you can always go back and edit it later. write what you DONT want to write so you can get to the stuff you DO want to write.

i would also recommend never deleting stuff youve written. if you write a scene that you end up hating, cut and paste it into a separate document just for safe keeping. it might come in handy down the line, even if you never actually USE it. you might be able to look back on it and REALIZE what does and doesnt work about it, which will improve your tone and general skills for OTHER stuff you're going to write in the future.

and one of my favorite things to do in a story when im stuck is STEP OUT OF MY BOX. especially if youre writing from a single character POV. we've been following the story of a single person, but every single other character they interact with has been going through a fanfic of their own. what is happening to them? what are they saying? being told? experiencing? what would cause them to change their mind about something suddenly? or act irrationally? the best part about writing for humans is that they're flawed. all of them. so we can write them making mistakes and doing stupid things. it helps push the plot along. it creates conflict, WHICH IS INTERESTING. we love conflict.

find something you want to write about in a fic, then expand the world around it. when i started an insulting indifference, my goal was to write about Alejandro's trauma, Noah's mental health, and have them experiencing healing by mending their relationship with not only each other, but the world and people around them. and then it grew from there!!!!!!!!!

"yeah! i lived there most of my childhood i picked up a few things" and its not really that important other than that. i mean seriously how important to you is it that you know the exact details of what people are in real life. how often do you ask your coworkers or peers or whatever exactly where they are from or what they are besides maybe sometimes in small talk? if it is often why? why is that the only thing you care about? if an author wants to include that information that's perfectly fine. its also fine for you to want more representation either or yourself or to learn about others. but here something yall need to learn. content creators are not your personal entertainment making slaves that you get to order around. all these anime and manga yall consume were not made for you. they are people and they make content for themselves. they are making content because THEY enjoy it. its not their RESPONSIBILITY to provide representation for you. yall seem to think that whatever you want should be served to you on a silver platter. no. what you get is what other people decided to make and share on the internet. either have the money to commission someone or make the content yourself. as a content creator myself we are not your slaves. we work for ourselves, not you. your allowed to enjoy or hate our content, but you don't get to demand or dictate what we should or allowed to make. if someone hasn't made something to your liking then make it yourself. if you want a story about a certain thing then MAKE IT. we arent fucking machines. we are real people just like you so start treating us like it. you like "slice of life" over "action"? then you would create "slice of life". but someone else enjoys "action" over "slice of life"? but you want them to make "slice of life"? too fucking bad. they aren't interested and you dont get a say in what they make. its the same with race. or any other topic. you wouldnt create "action" over "slice of life" because it doesn't interest you so why would you force someone to do something they have no interest in. race is not as important as yall think it is and you need to stop putting it on some pedestal. so ive watched three and a half french language movies since yesterday, and what struck me right from the first one is how much....space? there is in them. how much silence. how much showing and not bothering to explain anything. you figure it out. look at this shot of what the character is looking at for 10 seconds. feel whatever youre feeling. look at the character’s face reacting to what theyre looking at for half a minute. feel whatever youre feeling.

with close yesterday too it’s like a really small story? you kinda know exactly whats going to happen there arent really any surprises. and they also really really arent the point. you know whats going to happen but not knowing whats going to happen isnt the point. the point is sitting down and saying okay take me on this journey. i want to hear this story. i want to feel whatever im going to feel. girl is the same, it’s by the same director, i like his style. but sometimes while watching girl this morning i expected like, something Worse to happen. oh no the,,,, dad gets ill. or fired. or in a fight with his girlfriend. oh no she has an eating disorder. i kept expecting some kinda Escalation. and sure there were escalations of problems a little bit, moreso in girl than in close, but still the reactions to those escalations are very restrained. and feel very natural to me. im like, yes this is how we communicate, emotions tend to be expressed in small ways not in big screaming ways. and even if there is screaming, the characters are never screaming what the issue is. we can understand them because we’re taken into their point of view the entire movie, but nothing’s ever really explained. not even in like big plot point moments, the Big Plot Point is never stated out loud. they talk around it. but it is still like really clear what is happening. it just feels very natural

and theres just so much ROOM. so much SPACE. so much SILENCE. or just the sounds of the environment. in close youve got scenes of ice hockey practice and theyre LOUD, and sometimes they cut between really really quiet scenes in bedrooms to those loud scenes and it’s jarring, or the other way. or theres scenes where theyre planting flowers with like a big truck or whatever idk the words for all that in english but it’s also very loud but most of the time no one is speaking. we just get to watch. we dont get anything explained to us. and even if there is dialogue like i said it works just like the visuals in that it just presents an image. an audio+video image for us to interpret.

and i dont know what to attribute that to. whether it’s just that director, but raw directed by julia ducourneau and now this movie im watching evolution directed by lucile hadžihalilović are the same. raw has more dialogue and maybe does a little bit more explaining? but still just keeps us presenting with images and letting us figure it out. what we understand is happening. what we want to think about it. what we want to feel about it.

and i dont know if thats like, just these directors, or french french/belgian cinema styles, or european cinema styles, or just these four movies by coincidence but it’s SUCH a breath of fresh air

so a lot of this is like, being put together as i go obviously so more will come up as it gets fleshed out! but i said this near the beginning and ill repeat it: there arent enough drdi characters to replace the hunger games ones, so its technically a crossover. so president snow is still the main bad guy (hannah joked that president snow could be replaced by the truck and im still laughing about that) so im gonna put that out there! maybe katniss still exists lol but didnt get reaped. i did this in my pjo au that only exists in my head too but that one isnt gonna get fleshed out any time soon bc im not super into it rn.

anyway, just wanted to say that lol. one big thing would the romance wouldnt be the focus of the trio's whole thing of course. i think theres like... rumors in the capitol of like oooh which once is dating ranboo whats going on there ;) but beyond that, its like, the bond between tommy and tubbo that has a big focus and how they like ✨united to save ranboo✨ and of course the trio's bond too. ranboo is the damsel in distress sweetheart kind of role in the eyes of viewers. ranboo and tommy would also be far more aware of the situation when compared to peeta with katniss. like they know how much rides on them filling the roles theyve been put into. and they do love each other and have that bond but it isn't the exact same as what the people want to see from them, and its hard to act when they wish they could just like... be.

theres also no one who fills the prim role. so thats definitely a change. the final bombing and stuff would still go how it does in mockingjay, and it would still be horrific, but theres no one to get caught in it. i could see maybe like, ranboo being there and tubbo thinks theyre dead, but i dont wanna kill them... still working on that piece. i think like, while the situation follows that of the books, theres just differences in the way the key points are hit i suppose. because its not a 1:1 au obviously... theres a lot to play with :]

also three winners sure has an effect on things. it shows a bond between districts that really has a big effect, especially with 3 and 8 both already being more rebellious AND side by side geographically. they stand together before the actual rebellions even begin

yugioh really is something truly special and an absolute blast to really dig into, but it IS a very big franchise.... forgive me for being a bit inexperienced at giving recommendations, but I shall do my best!! here's some pointers that I think could be helpful if ya wanna get into the show(s) (not getting into the mangas too much on this, for the sake of brevity LOL) (the spinoff mangas are fun reads, though!)

ok so the thing with yugioh is there are Eight Different 'Main' Yugioh Series (and a few little stray other series but we ain talkin bout those right now)--my recommendations are focusing on the first five series, since those the ones i've seen (though ive heard glowing reviews for VRAINS and Sevens and you could certainly go check either of those out if you wanted to! You don't really need to know anything about the plots of the other series to follow those stories)

as a yugioh fan i am of course obligated to recommend Duel Monsters as a starter. It's the OG, just absolute Yugioh at its most tried and true Yugioh, it Is that good, the dub and sub are both classics--but IF i am being my most honest true self, if my arc-v postin and zoneporia chattering have got ya ygo hooked then I would recc maybe taking a gander at one of the spinoff series first instead ;3

(In general what's cool about yugioh is you can basically pick up any of the series as your 'first' ygo experience to start with and have a great time with it! I know tons of people who've all started with different series/only are invested in 1-2 series,Theyre all made to be their own self-contained plots, and there's really something for everyone among 'em! you could honestly just read wiki blurbs on each series and go with whatever one sounds most interesting to you, and that's a fine start right there.) (though sometimes youll see characters from one series show up in another one, the Entire Storyline isnt Hinged on that--i.e. a bunch of alternate version GX/5D's/Zexal characters show up in ARC-V, but you dont need to have seen all those series to watch arc-v or follow its plot.) also idgaf what anyone says, the dubs are just as wonderful a watch as the subs are when it comes to ygos--you have to deal with some scene censorship or dialogue changes, but to me it doesn't really impede the experience. (in fact I almost want to recommend the dubs MORE for someone just starting to get into yugioh--it can be easier to follow the duels sometimes. AND a lot of the dubs are free on Youtube!!)

ANYWAY Z-one and Aporia are from Yugioh 5D's!! The, Last twenty episodes or so. Of 5D's. 🥴 <--the suffering nicherfaverrrr. So if you want to meet them properly you Do unfortunately have to be in for the long haul (i am of course biased and will say: Worth It.) 5D's is all around fantastic though; it has its slow spots, but the duels get crazy fun on those damn motorcycles, so even if you do buckle in for the All of It you'll have a good time--there are some chunks in the second half of the show that never got dubbed though (sad!) which is just something to keep in mind.

RE: Arc-V! since youve seen me tweetin about it, I will say, the first 50 episodes or so of it, that first season, does make for a really great crash course intro to yugioh and its worlds/how dueling works, since it touches upon all the main types of summoning as part of its plot, and talks about how they work. You get to learn about them as the characters do, which is really cool! My main hesitance from suggesting it 100% as a starter series is that it gets. fucking Bonkers. like characters from the other series showing up aside there is just So Much Going On in Arc-V At Any Given Point. IT CAN BE A BIT OVERWHELMING. AND APPARENTLY ITS ENDING IS. NOT VERY GOOD. which might not be very fun for a first time ygo experience 😭BUT BY ALL MEANS GIVE IT A WHIRL IF YOU'RE INTERESTED. I'm having fun with it at least, hehehe.

OK HONESTLY. HONESTLY. I think if I have one good recommendation to take away from all of this: watch Zexal. Zexal is a fantastic starter yugioh, I can't recommend giving it a go enough. Yuma as a protagonist starts out dogshit at the game and gets better over the course of the series, and that really helps the viewer follow along with the card game and start to understand it at a nice pace without getting confused over all the finer points of it. It does a really nice job of explaining how things work imo! It's also just, a gorgeous show. It's one of the most beautiful cartoons ive ever seen art direction wise. It's so kind and so fun and goes hard as hell and the characters are so full of love and personality. AND THE WHOLE DUB IS FREE ON YOUTUBE. BTW. BONUS.

THIS ENDED UP SO LONG SORRY tl;dr you can pretty much start with whatever yugioh sounds most interesting to you personally as your first series and you won't be missing any critical lore! Also Zexal is one of the best, consistently good and really easy to pick up. I think if you could only ever watch one yugioh make it that one.

also this is a less a recommendation and more just "little things about watching yugioh to keep in mind" but: don't let the card game aspect intimidate ya too much! the show really does it's best to explain how cards work and keeps it engaging; it's a show geared towards kids so of course it tries to keep things pretty easy to follow along, game-wise (also do not listen to the 'The Duels Arent Important' Crowd they are Wrong. yugioh is a sports anime but the sport is a card game. that's the crux of its storytelling. and it's genuinely really cool!!!) And if you're interested in giving the game itself a whirl, Duel Links is pretty beginner friendly imo!

I HOPE THATS AT LEAST SOMEWHAT HELPFUL the trials and tribulations of recommending where to start with a franchise that boasts some 1000+ episodes across 8 series is mighty but that should give ya some sort of idea!! whatever you end up going with I hope you have a ton of fun! YUGIOHHHH
