Twilight characters as random animals that I think are oddly fitting

(Also yes, I am roasting the animals as well)

Edward: He would be a Cheetah. Now I know, seems like a cop out just because of his speed but hear me out. Cheetahs are, at face value, pretty cool. They used to be my favorite animal as a child, but then I grew up.

Cheetahs, through no fault of their own, are severely inbred. Now thats mainly because of poaching, but the cheetas anxiety also comes into play. In captivity, cheetahs are usually given emotional support dogs. I will admit it is cute but it negatively affects the population. Excluding one in the wild, cheetas can be to anxious to breed and thats not good for conservation efforts.

Cheetahs can hit up to 80 miles per hour in a couple of seconds. They are designed for fast running and agility. Their claws are similar to that of a dogs for better traction and they have elongated spines for longer strides. They have a thin build, long legs and a long tail for balance.

This has downsides though. Many times after making a kill, it will get stolen for them by larger predators. Thats right, they get absolutely bodied by the other animals. I should probably make these shorter but I'm on a rant now, so I guess this will be semi educational.

Throughout the series, we see Edward over estimated his abilities and value, constantly getting bodied by others. He's essentially a perfect mormon, though thats on S'meyers. He constantly judges others, dehumanizing them to their baser flaws, without doing any self reflecting. Him viewing himself as a monster doesn't really count to me. While he definitely hates himself, the only thing he is truly demonizing is being a vampire.

Bella: Picking up from Edwards, Bella is a Chocolate Labrador. Yes, she is his therapy dog. I feel like this is really fitting for her. I know Golden retriever would make more sense, as thats the most common breed for service animals. However, I kind of focused on her appearance. Only at first though! I just know that Edward raved about her human qualities and that would pass over as animals as well. Her chocolate eyes and brown fur, very average and boring. Thats essentially Bella. Even Edward wasn't into her until he got a wiff. Labradors a very loyal dogs and while they have more personality than Bella, I just couldn't shake it. Their also very stupid. Ok that's kind of mean, they're not stupid but when it comes to love, then yeah they are stupid.

I used to have a lab, loved him to death, but god he was something else. Very much danger prone, from their own stupidity or their lack of survival instincts. I know that labs are almost aquatic. They love water, swimming, all that jazz. We can just say that bella has a few screws loose in her dna and is just "not like other labs."

Rosalie: Now she was hard. There are quite a few animals that I think would fit for her. I'll list the other ones, but that one I went with is the Swan. Like Edward, seems a little on the nose, but I have my reasoning.

I was going to pick a predator for her, as she is shown to be very vengeful and viscous. I would have pick some type of cat, most likely a purebred, from a rich family. It could still work, but the swan just speaks to me on this one.

Swan's are known for being beautiful, graceful, and are pictured as the symbol of love. They are also very vain. Edward constantly brings up Rosalies vanity. She was constantly valued for her beauty as a human, so of course that crossed over in the transformation. She was raised to be married into wealth, she was used as a bargaining chip to increase the family's standing.

Rose has a very strong character and makes her opinions known. She's assertive and aggressive at times. She's not afraid to get dirty.

Swans mate for life and like geese, are known for being great parents. I was also going to choose geese as an option for the maternal instincts. I was wary at first because swans can be really aggressive. Like actually, you think geece are bad? Yikes bestie...

I was conflicted because swans are known for drowning dogs and sometimes people. However, I can actually see Rose drowning Bella. It's not that unbelievable lmao.

Emmett: Now this one is just ironic. I only associate him with bears. Its inevitable, but picking a Grizzly or Black bear is too obvious. So I went a slightly different route...

So I was going to pick the Sun bear just because of looks alone. Like, I'm not exaggerating, it looks like someone wearing a bear costume. I don't think it fits him but I know for a fact that he would dress up as a sun bear and sneak into a zoo to see if anyone would notice. I'll put a pic of it here

Like look at this thing. I have no words...

Anyway, what I picked was a Sloth Bear. Now Sloth bears are mostly nocturnal, which either way works consider vamps don't sleep. Their diet is also odd but honestly so is the cullens. They're native to the Indian subcontinent, and are known for being aggressive towards humans. Its said that for the most part they're pretty calm, so I think its just fear of humans that make them act aggressively. Honestly, that's a good thing because they are listed as vulnerable on the IUCN Red list.

They have some similarities with sloths, which is where they get the name. They have long claws and unusual teeth. They are known to hang upside down from tree branches, and is described as having a messy appearance. Honestly, Emmitt has a messy personality. Sorry bestie but you're a lot of work.

Now heres the biggest reason for choosing this bear. Aside from Baloo from the jungle book being a sloth bear, they are known to run fades with Tigers. Honestly, how fucking badass is that!? Now I don't think there are recorded instances of a Sloth bear killing a Tiger, but when push comes to shove, they can hold their own and I find that incredibly impressive.

Carlisle: This one was somehow the easiest as well as the toughest. I know Owl seems like the obvious choice, and I can see it. However, I believe Carlisle values emotional intelligence as much or if not more than academic intelligence. He is so charismatic and values other's above himself. He might not be as Saint like as Edward thinks, but he does try and I think he genuinely cares about others. For that reason alone, I choose a Elephant.

Elephant's are very social animals and are extremely intelligent. I could rave about them for ages, I love them so much.

Now elephants live in a familial unit and are usually matriarchal. Bulls usually are on the outer edges of the herd or form little groups with other males. Honestly, they're not that bad aside from when their in musk.

In the group of males, the elder ones will teach the younger where to get the best food, water, how to use things as tools, and every other thing that will increase their odds of survival. This is really cute to me tbh, they do this because the females usually choose the older males because they've proved that they are intelligent and strong, that they have survived and will continue to for awhile. Teaching the younger males these things are to make the odds of them getting chosen to mate more likely. The whole unit just reminds me of a father that has to deal with rowdy teens.

Carlisle likes to take in strays, he might not have a herd but he will make one and teach them to thrive. That's how he envisions it anyway. He just has a found family and is trying his best.

Esme: Now this might seem like an insult, but I promise it's not! This is in no way misogynistic. I love cattle and ever since I took animal science in highschool, I have appreciated these grass puppies like they deserve. Call me Castro because I love cows.

Yup! I chose a Cow for her. Specifically a beef cow. That might sound weird but its because beef cows have higher maternal instinct than dairy cows. I'm thinking Scottish Highland based on vibes alone.

They are nicknamed the Gentle Giants of Scotland. Super maternal and sweet and ugh look how cute they are!

Esme came from a abusive marriage and had just lost her child, she was depressed and desperate. Her changing was, in a way, salvation. She just fits in. She adopts all these strays along with him and will protect them to the death. She might be gentle by nature, but don't fuck with her family. She lost her first one and she isn't going to lose this one.

Alice: She's an odd one. There are so many possibilities and maybe I'm biased, but I feel like she would be a Crow.

Ok listen, I'm definitely biased but it just feels right. Crows get a bad rap, they are so cool! They are so intelligent and have the ability to actually sit and think about the past, prest, and future. I forget what its called, but this was only seem in humans! Maybe other apes, I can't remember exactly, but either way its awesome. They do live in groups, or murders, and remember people and faces. They remember locations and are able to pass down information through generations. They essentially have their own language! They are able to use tools too!

Alice's story is really sad. When we first meets her, it revolves around the death of her mother and her institutionalized. She was essentially tortured and forgot everything from her past. All she had was the future and even that wasn't constant. Crows a often viewed as omens, they are associated with death. I personally believe that instead of being the cause, they just know something is going to happen. They are very inquisitive and can be creative.

If you befriend a murder of crows, sometimes, depends or the group, they will bring gifts. Its can range from food to shiny metals and colorful plastic. Hell, I think I've seen a post of one stealing things from people just to gift it to their human.

Alice's love language is gifts. Even if they are focused around fashion, she still goes out of her way to get something that will look good and at least be a little comfortable. By that I mean she tends to forget peoples comfort zones, but she means well.

Jasper: Honestly not to sure what to put for him. I know a predator would be more fitting, but for some reason I can see a donkey working. I know, seems like I'm clowning on the confederate. Fair, but I'm serious about the donkey thing. Honestly, it would be perfect if it wasn't a herbivore. Porcupine would also work.

Being a predator would make more sense. Given his backstory and his characterization, it wouldn't make sense for him to be a prey animal. Usually I wouldn't count this, but given his gore filled past and trouble with the diet, it seemed fitting.

I see him as a Big Cat. Honestly, vamps in general just give cat vibes. Jasper though especially have some cat like qualities, which originates from hunting and being a soldier.

I specifically see him as a Mountain Lion. Aside from him being blonde, he just has the predatory stealth to him. In midnight sun, we see him use his gift to make the nomads overlook him. He's honestly really powerful.

Mountain lions are known for being stealthy with an air of grace and power to them. They are stong animals. And I mean strong. They can jump 40-45 feet.

They're very elusive and quite. They stalk their prey and tend to attack from behind but don't think they won't hold their ground if need be.

Jasper was changed during the Civil War and forced to fight in the Newborn wars. He was a soldier as a human and as a vampire. He's able to feel and manipulate others emotions. He's covered in scars and is very intimidating.

He still struggles with the diet and honestly I hate how the others handle it. Like they have no room to talk. I don't want to defend the confederate but it just pisses me off. He has to deal with his hunger on top of everyone else's. Like damn, besties always on edge! Everyone doubts him which I don't think helps any.

Also, Mountain lions and Cheetahs can purr!

how do you characterize fascism? no doubt he would be a supporter of a fascist movement, as most self centered businessmen and racists are. but i think its a bit ridiculous to say that he was instituting fascism or that he was even a fascist leader. do you really think you can vote out fascists? the structure of american liberal democracy remained pretty much the same, just pushing itself further towards collapse. trump only did in the open what other presidents do behind closed doors. thats not fascism, thats the reality of the american empire. thats every single administration, but they dont usually tell you theyre doing it. people have argued that in that case the united states has always been fascist but personally i dont agree. imo fascism should be analyzed as a reaction an unsolvable crisis in capitalism and liberal democracy, that gains power in the moment when the ruling class sees no other option but to give fascists control of the state to prevent a popular revolt or the collapse of capitalism. fascism in italy and nazism in germany rose out of major crises on economic, cultural, and ideological fronts and massive technological/productive changes that transformed social relations. both the italian and weimar governments were decaying in the middle of economic depression, war, disease, etc there was a massive loss of legitimacy in the political system and capitalist ideology, misery induced by modern living conditions, loss of imperial avenues to take wealth and resources from. most people perceived the government as ineffective, stagnant, and run by senile old men, similar to how people view the american government today. this is also why nazism and italian fascism took the image of a revolutionary movement, using growing dissatisfaction with capitalism and the capitalist state to present itself as a radical alternative (of course fascism in power was extremely supportive of capital) the liberal democratic governments in germany and italy gave fascists power in order to protect the interests of capital at large, to expand imperialism and to prevent a left wing uprising. a coalition of conservatives, capitalists, and anti-communist liberals/soc dems (literally all the powers of capital and empire) decided to give mussolini and hitler state power. it was not through an election, it was through the ruling class scrambling to prevent collapse.

none of that has happened in the united states. trump was not handpicked by the ruling class to restore order, he was almost the exact opposite- a visible reflection of a broken system. if anything we are only in the beginning of the collapse, and i think trump and the 2020 election are mainly catalysts for accelerated decay of the american political apparatus and growing disillusionment with it. also a huge factor in italian and german fascism was loss of internal and external markets and imperial decline. i dont think we are going to see an actual version of american fascism until the american empire is genuinely in danger of falling apart. so i think analyzing this in terms of individuals is really useless, fascism should be understood on economic and ideological terms first, not on whether trump fits the criteria by being racist and hating journalists. i have been thinking about this for a while and can explain the reasoning behind any of my points more if you want lol, including why i think germany & italy are useful for comparison. my friends and i are working on an article about trump, biden, and fascism thats pretty much this whole spiel but longer and more organized

so punk isnt just a genre, but also a subculture and ideology built specifically on deconstructing the unjust society we live in, ie anti racism, anti fascism, working class solidarity. punk is not just hardcore music, but also an ethos of doing whats right by the people.

the thing about that though is that anti establishment is a hard sell when everyone grows up explicitly being taught to trust the establishment, right? the reason punk is difficult to mainstream is that saying The Establishment Is Bad is obviously not popular with the establishment, which very much controls the distribution of things. most mainstream anti establishment music isnt explicit in its messaging, instead gesturing to the specific point, basically dogwhistling the actual message (note: dogwhistling is in and of itself a neutral phenomenon, you can dogwhistle anything). saying it with your chest makes it easy to ignore and censor, but saying it in a clever way makes it so that the people who want to hear it will. this is how green day usually operates (think american idiot) and imo a lot of people in punk and on the left in general see people dogwhistling ideology and think of it as no longer being proud of their beliefs when its actually just being smart with messaging so it doesnt get censored or turn people off by being too challenging. the problem with that though is that occasionally people will miss the message so bad that they interpret it as being for them as the opposition (ie conservatives who think american idiot is for them and not about them) and will be surprised when they stop dogwhistling and start saying the quiet part loud (think the no trump no kkk no fascist usa reaction).

fall out boy operates a little differently, in that they do dogwhistle their beliefs but in a much vaguer way and more subtle way, and they also very much arent asked about them often. like their image is cultivated as being largely apolitical despite them not actively trying to be apolitical, however their projects outside of fall out boy and preceding fall out boy and influencing fall out boy are all political, when asked directly (which they never are) they are political, its not a matter of hiding their politics as much as it is a matter of their music being popular, and so they use that to be political. like their music is mainstream and they use that to mainstream causes they care about, they talk a lot about the stuff that interests them and often that is, at least subtley, influenced by their politics, theyre a gateway punk band in that they use their music to lead people to their message as opposed to using it as a vehicle for the message itself. andy hurley himself has said it better than i am right now, i gotta find that podcast again. while there are still people who are surprised when they "get political" theyre far more casual fans who are uninterested in the people who made the music, because there is hardly any political message in the music to misinterpret, but there are politics from the people who made it associated with it.

i have never personally met a fall out boy fan who doesnt eventually become some flavour of leftist, and the only other kind of fall out boy fan is the kind of person who gets mad at any artist for talking about politics ever. its extremely important for people to have a first easy non judgemental step into challenging their beliefs, and green day and fall out boy both do that really well. a lot of other bands are just selling a rebel without a cause image (which imo is anti leftist propaganda as part of the recuperation of alternative subcultures) and that often leads to the broader scene and may also lead to a genuine dedication to anti racism, but those two and fall out boy especially have a very solid pipeline to anti establishment sentiments by just posing a question, either through the music or through the people performing it, about whether things should be this way.

Espionage, it’s suddenly here, there and everywhere. If you recall several years ago, there was a request made, of a former agent who now works privately, to do a dossier on Mr.Trump. This has since infamously been called the Steele Dossier, the gentleman’s name is Christopher Steele. Amongst a myriad of information in that file, you can read it online, l,believe it’s still publicly available, just google it. In part of that dossier it alleges that when Mr. Trump was in Moscow for the beauty contest he owned, Putin offered him the best prostitutes in the world, he, confirmed by his own prime security man whose name escapes me just now, both denied he used any such services. However in the dossier, there are references, especially seedy one to the U.S. public was the fact he enjoyed prostitutes, sorry for this, it them peeing on each other etc etc. So that is part of the clue, l felt the need to share that. I truly apologize if anyone was offended.

Undercover means subterfuge, pretending to be part of something to gather information or evidence. This is most used with police or investigation contexts although since we are talking spied, that as well

2, does that mean only two players are most important? Or does this simply mean too many are involved . I highly doubt with MM ANON that the use of 2 doesn’t have a deeper meaning and that Players is capitalized. Players is a cigarette in Canada. As l, and many many others have said, and indeed the mantra of law enforcement, money laundering etc etc follow the money trail. There is always a record kept and, in the U.S. for example if you withdraw or move around over a certain amount without proper explanation, the financial institution fills out a form, l just can’t recall the name, l am sorry, but it triggers a reaction in the system to check into it. In our case, follow the money, who are the backers, where did her money come from. I am quite certain they have that well in hand.

And once the legal dust settle people will be both shock and horrified by what is made public. The information sealed would be too much for people to handle l believe. I would not want to be making those decisions. Security services of the U.K,, Canada, U.S., Australia and New Zealand are collectively known as ‘the five eyes’. They are all interactive, information sharing to keep us all safe as possible on an international level. You must read about these things and educate yourself.

Now we’re not talking babies here, although there was a fascinating case in the U.S. back 20 years a pair of Russian agents lived covertly as a married couple in America. They tried to seek refuge in Canada, the children, but if my memory serves, they were extradited to Russia. This is the planned trip for William and Catherine to visit Pakistan.Very few details have been released, the security issue is massive. okay so im feeling crazy and detached again (as usual lately)

So here’s a brainstorming of whats got me fucked up, in no particular order:

Trump is our stupid President

That guy who told me he loved me daily and asked me to be his girlfriend after basically living with me immediately after meeting me and I fell for hard despite a ton of red flags CHEATED on me while I was away visiting home.

And then blamed it on MY bad communication? fuck that guy.

But now I see one of the girls he slept with (multiple times, three days in a row) I see her everywhere all the time in everyones instagrams, at everyones parties... ugh.

Um. People are dying. Close to me. More importantly and spefcifically women I love are dead.

I didnt get to see Inga before she died. I was too busy forging a relationship with CHEATER GUY. Didnt get home in time to see her. Talk to her.

Grandma. This has been the whole first year without her, come November. Its subtle, but terrible and I hate it. She was my last matriarch. The last woman who’s blood is in me.

because Mom’s dead too. And has been since August of 2015. 2015, right? God it feels like forever ago now, probably because I’ve pushed it away. She died unexpectedly and NO ONE IN MY FAMILY HAS SAID THE WORD SUICIDE OUT LOUD even though thats what happened. She OD’d on prescribed opiate painkillers to escape her depression. And we NEVER talk about it.

So I kindof feel insane. Not talking about things that are clearly there. Like, are they not clearly there for anybody else? Now all my women are gone. My brother literally avoids talking about feelings. My dad is a little more receptive but is more the comforting type than the forthcoming, express onesself type. Getting sentimentality out of my brother is like pulling teeth sometimes. But yet if his son does something cute, its God’s Work and he cant help but cry and get that beautiful lovie squishy look on his face.

I’m jealous of my own nephew. I see the way my Mom loved me, in the way my Brother loves his son. And I miss being that perfect to somebody. My Dad loves me forever and always and there isnt a word for how grateful I feel for our relationship. I dont take that for granted at all. It actually kindof scares me because... hah, well what if Dad dies? Like, before I’m ready? I’ll be even MORE fucked!

Anyways. Austins been pissing me off. I’m sorry but although Polyamory is possible and cool and im sure quite beautiful for many,

The Austin poly scene is fucked and tainted and a bunch of slutty people having orgies and not TALKING about anything and its ruining the healthy vibe poly is incumbent upon.

So, whatever I’m angry. So fuck that noise.

I feel like because of cheater guy and my anger at the psuedo poly orgy sexy bullshit scene in Austin, I feel like I’ve broken up with a whole group of friends. Like, I dont want to be around any of it. I dont want to see you eat mushrooms and twerk. I dont want to see your stupid, super naked outfit. I dont think its hot you carry a flogger or can pole dance or slink around like a tarantino character. It used to be hot and thrilling and fun, when I felt like it was connected and for love and sharing and caring. But now it all just is slutty and vapid and useless and cold. Like a sad clown. And thats not sexy, its dark and desperate. *this is about both VERY particular people and broad general strokes. There are several extremely amazing friends in the scene and outskirts thereof that truly inspire me and dont fall into this catagory in my mind, although they’d probably still be angry with me for dissing things ^^ the way I just did but. fuck it, this is MY journal entry and I can be irrational if I want to.

You cant be open fucking minded ALL the time. Sometimes people really arent acting with anyones best intentions but their own. I’ve used up SO MUCH FUCKING ENERGY making myself soften and open and “woke” and trying to go with everybodys flow. And I’m exhausted and over it. I have my own principles and theres nothing wrong with having differing opinions than someone else.

All summer I’ve been feeling like I’m a bad person for not liking or not understanding this hyper sexual scene in Austin. I thought, “why am I shaming a scene thats giving me opportunity to really shine and be free?” when, in an IDEAL world, yes thats what the scene could be. But in what actually fucking unfolds -- humans SUCK and dudes SUCK and girls SUCK and everybody (especially when horny) are fucking STUUUUPIIIIIDDDD and ideals get thrown out the window! people arent nearly as “woke” as I gave them the actual credit for. Seriously. So! I’m fuckin OUTTIE!

I’ve felt broken up with a whole scene. FUck cheater guy, fuck poly, fuck orgies, fuck people who are reckless with my love.

I’ve been eating too much out of boredom. Which I’ll blame on lack of quality social interaction in this town. Where are the scholars? Where are the sexy edgy BRAINY people? I’m tired of hot people in little clothing in the summer.

Ah! Another thing for the list. its been TOO FUCKING HOT OUT. FOR MONTHS. 100 DEGREES FOR MONTHS. thats enough to make anyone insane.

So i’m sick of teenie boppers in their nothing outfits in the heat.

I want old smart people in peacoats. I miss books and weather and frowns. Irritable debates about literature or physics or religious theories.

I only like my own brand of cigarettes.

My roommates are annoying me. I dont really like my house anymore. Theres too many humans and not enough square footage. Four people to one kitchen is TOO MUCH SHIT. EVERYONE BUYS THEIR OWN BANANAS AND THEY ALLLLLL GO BROWN ON THE TABLE. thats four peoples worth of bad bananas. FUcking stupid.

I dont have a hairdresser here. Sometimes when I feel shitty I like to throw money at the problem. Buy something. Get a haircut. See a show. Etc.

And my hairdresser love is in Philadelphia and getting a flight to get a haircut is slightly insane (without a longer visit)

I miss Adam.

What else can I blame my upset on. Shitty politics, shitty weather, shitty social sexual scene in my town, I dont like my house, I dont like my hair. Its too expensive to live here. No one in my immediate acquaintance or friend circle seems interested in the sort of romantic relationship I’m seeking, nor if they did does anyone have the “it” factor I look for which I’ll *try* to describe maybe in another post.

So. I sit inside my room and try to fix stupid remedial things as if itd make a big impact. I tidy and put away clothes in attempt to feel less cluttered but am too scared to make BIG cuts and BIG changes. So instead I light insence and watch netflix and eat too much. I have started going to Barre3 again more and have been semi regular with therapy so thats something.

I really ought to start doing “morning pages” like the book Fiona loaned me suggests in its FIRST GODDAMN CHAPTER. But, alas, I am lazy.

No, I have become recently lazy.

I’m spoiled. I dont do things I dont want to do. Its a major character flaw. I only push and struggle if I see worthyness in it, and lately theres been serious lack of evidence of that in, well, anything.

so, I guess in summation- because nothing has been a WORTHWHILE struggle, EVERYTHING feels like a struggle. Humph. thats... thats not good. But it does, because i dont see the worth in a lot of goals or tasks or even relationships, (and i dont mean the greedy “what can I GET for ME out of this!” sort of b.s.) (I mean the... conserve precious energy, is this going to teach me something or help me grow as a person or bring love into my life sort of vibe) ...

when I dont think the energy expenditure is going to pay off, I dont do it. Or I do it half way or lazily or with tentative fear. I guess I could do an experiment and just do everything with HOPE and see if my energy put in will get a different result... but. like. I feel like I did that all summer and he cheated on me. And my “friends” said “dont be angry, be poly” and I couldnt call on my Mom or Grandma and so I call on eating and isolation and running away to visit home where no one cares I dont have a job. where the house is big and the air is cold and my friends are smart.

I really miss Kristian. That was one of the greatest feelings of self love in my entire life. I felt like, if someone that special noticed ME. Saw ME. Little old, semi chubby, not famous ME, and wanted me around for a couple tour dates. Then I ought to believe in myself TOO. I wanted to dance, I wanted to make art, I wanted to take photos, I wanted to be bold, I wanted to be humble, I felt so open and content with myself. I was motivated to work out, I was motivated to eat healthy and clean and small portions. It was easy. It felt so fun. I loved him. I dreamt big. My imagination was so warm and excited. My inner critic was GONE.

But he faded away. He got back with his ex. The shooting star left the sky. I’m still grateful for the experience at all, but.

I feel a little stupid for thinking anything could’ve happened.

And I truly miss feeling so special and excited about life.

I dont want to run away from Austin out of fear. But I cant tell if I’m unhappy and want to leave genuinely, or if this is the spoiled part of me thats like, “this sucks, lets leave.” instead of pushing though, curating something better with some struggle, and sticking it out.

How do people make big life decisions like this? I feel like thats what marriages do. People stay together and fight. But sometimes they get divorced anyways, its just been longer. More years wasted. When maybe it wouldve been healthier to leave sooner and cut the cord and be free to live without, sooner.

I really like a lot of things about this city. But I really dislike a lot too. And I cant tell where I want my life to go, in a grand sense, so its hard to pick which attributes will matter in the long run.

I dont think I should leave yet. Maybe a new house. Or like, serious efforts to declutter this one. Is this just excuses? Ugh.

Declutter this house. If that doesnt feel better, leave the house and move to a new part of austin. If that doesnt feel better, leave austin.

I need a job.

Broken

ALL THE CHARACTERS BELONG TO @brueklynn I OWN NOTHING. Because there is a character that we dont have any kind of idea about them, i will just go by 'another person' without any names or features, just a person XD i made this while having cold so it may seem a little off, try to enjoy Xd

11 pm

Behind a bar.

Thats what the letter said. Eyes lingered over the lines before the letter was lifted down to show the view of a big bar, was that really the place he was meant to visit? Only one way to find out. He entered the bar, rough paintwork that coats the door and push, shards of black paint crumble to the floor. The bar curved into a room, dark in the barely lit place, through the windows the diamonds of lead panes trickles the sallow light of street lamps. The hinges squeal as though they are a warning, but their plea is silenced by a wall of noise. Laughter overpowers the jukebox. Conversations swirl in a dirty cloud of smoke, the stagnant stench of cigarettes hides within the collaboration of mephitic odours. A sharp smell of drink wafts towards him, like black plumes bellowing from the windows of a burning house. There is even a hint of sick tainting the fragrance of the room.

He looked up and down, right and left, He cant find the sender of the letter, wait...Of course he wont! the letter said to meet Behind a bar! Now have he to find where is the back door that leads to outside. It took him long enought till he found it. trying the door knob, the heavy iron bound door swung open, revealing a wide area enclosed by a flimsy hain-link fence. The unrelenting darkness took over everthing, plucked the stars and anything that can glow, burying them beneath the sky. The air had thickened, the temperature dropped and nowhere was there a comforting sound. Trash cans leaning on the bar cracked walls, ground covered in dusty powder, what looked like a streetlight, which was the only one that isnt fully broken, flickered, casting an errie smudgy beam onto that black place. That wasnt really the...best place you could invite someone to meet you in...It was all quiet and derelict. He had the enough courgage to step forawrd, walking unusually slow, he had an odd gait, It was slightly lurching as he went, trudging along at a sedate pace. His head right and left, searching for who he was supposed to meet with, his mind focused on finding a sign of someone in this hopeless space rather than the footsteps that seemed to echo throughout the desolate yard, why didnt he just call the name to hear a respone? Maybe because it doesnt sound like a good idea to do so in this haunted place. Yet still, he kept finding his eyes diverting to something each moment he heard a low simple sound, darting to locate the source. Thats until, under those overwhelmed black shadows, and after a short stroll, he found who he was looking for, standing there uncommonly, under another bulb that lacks illumination. His boyfriend clicking his feet to the land underneath, probably out of pateince. Finally, harry found him! Walking towards his direction smiling. "Hey babe!" "harry..." "oh boy! why you gotta choose this place for a meeting? We could have gone inside the bar as usual, right?" Harry was still confused beind the sudden call at this late hour, but he didnt care. "Tonight we...not gonna drink at the bar." "uh, ok? So, why did you send this letter today? What are we going to do?" He pulled it from his pocket to show the proof. "Harry we....we need to talk." Not like this startled harry a lot, but it wasnt in an ordinary tone. "Sure! Talk away!" His boyfriend spoke with his head to the dusty ground. "You see...how both of us go together to do anything. to walk together, to talk to each other everyday, to work and help each other when in any of us in trouble, it was all nice werent it?" The sudden mention of their sweet times together was also strange. "Of course! And im glad I do all of these thing with you!" "and this is what I wanted to talk about tonight harry..." the fletcher paid his attention, waiting for his darling to start the conservation, he doesnt need to consider bad possibilties, instead he was a bit happy inside, what if those mentions were to remind the other of their constant affectionate attachment and celebrate 'something' together? That would be a lovely thing! It was tenser than a tiger who stalks a prey while harry lover peers his way to him, face resolutely unimpressed. "I think this..... relationship needs to...needs to....needs to end." Harry stopped like he had taken a bullet to the guts. The words fell on him like a storm. The cold air hitting his face.

"...What?......" He may just heard it wrong, he hoped he really did, he wished he did and this is not what his love just stated, doubt was filling him. "We need to end this harry." His boyfriend repeated, affirming his recent words. No, his hearing was right, thats what he just said... "What....W-What do you mean?!?" "What do you think I mean?" His lover raised his eyes to meet harry ones, so he would know he isnt just messing around. It took harry a while to speak again. "You dont really mean this..." "Do I look like I am joking?!?" Harry looked downward briefly. "but...But....I...I thought we loved each other..." "You Are Right!! LOVE'D'!! Its all from the past harry!!" Why would he say such a thing...his mind cycles through emotions faster than a kid flipping radio channels, he was broken. Harry couldnt accpet what is taking place, but what else is there to do? "dear you...I dont think you are in your right mind tonight..." "No!! YOU Are Not In Your Right Mind Harry!!! Didnt You See It?! This ISNT Working!!! It Never Did!! Now Go Away!!" "Wha-" "Go Away!!!" his words and his anger cut too deep that harry couldnt change the image of him. When he met his gaze his was just the same. "No" "Why Dont You Get It?! Go Away!!" "No I wont! you need to go back to your sanity!!" "Im In My Full Sanity! Just Go Away!!" "Not Until I know Whats Wrong!" "I Said GO AWAY YOU GARBAGE!!!!" Rising his fist, his hand swinging out connecting to harry face in a flash of pain. Although not on his back, harry toke a few steps back from the impact. Bewildered, pressing a pale hand to his cheeks trying to comprehend the previous seconds. Did..Did his..Did his boyfriend for the first time just....punched him?!

"You......." "I told you to go away." " I DONT UNDERSRAND YOU! WHY?! DID YOU CALL ME OUT TO THE BAR AT 11 PM JUST TO BREAK UP WITH ME?!" "yes, I Cannot keep this up any longer Harry, I needed to do it now." "Im Not Breaking Up With You Until You Tell Me The Reason!" "look At Me In The Eyes And Say You Still Dont Know The Reason!! I Dont Even Know What Got Me To Agree To Be With You!" With each little word... a piece of harry heart broke. "...how could you say this...what happened that changed you?...." "Changed Me?! YOU Changed Man!! I Kept Being Myself and Been Who I am While Keeping Our Connections Stable!! I Did Everything With And For You!! Even In Stupidest Things! And I Shouldnt Have!" "But Bab-" "I Hate You!!" "No-" "I Always Did! And I knew One day you willl hate me too!" Thats wrong. They both loved each other, they said it and showed it, all of these are just words from anger...so why all this nonsense about love and hate? Where had he gone wrong? Since when did this love turn to poison? He doesnt know what had climbed inside His beloved and turned him mad. "Stop!! YOU Need To Calm Down!" "NO!! And For The Last Time Go Away!!" "Not Until I know The Reason!!" "No You Wont Know Now Go Away" "I Already Said Not Until I know What Happened!!" "GO AWAY!" "NO!" "You Gave Me No Other Choice!!" Without thinking, harry boyfriend turned around to grab something from a near shelf. It was revealed to be a small bucket. However, when harry figured out the kind of liquid thats inside it, the intended message was already enforced, and he lost what little colour he had, starting to freak out.

"Dont you dare....." "Oh I will! I will throw all this bucket content at Your Face If You dont leave Me!!!!" The other man couldnt believe this..his lover cant do that...yes he may be out of his mind right now, but he will never have the nerve to throw some unknown chemicals straightly on his face, it was just an empty threat to leave. and all he could do was to stare lifelessly at the eyes that held that bucket and a terrifying coldness he had never seen before. He had always thought those eyes were like a gem, but looking at them now he could see no trace of the vibrancy they once held, no trace of the boy he once knew. "Darlin-" "DONT CALL ME DARLING ANYMORE!!" There was stillness on both sides, faces unreadable. "Please be back to yourself..." "Leave Me Alone! "Please!" "Your Last chance Harry....GO AWAY" "PLEASE!!" "THATS IT!" That was when the cold man lost it altogether, and the unexpected happened. In an immediate movment he launched forward, tossing all the liquid inside the bucket in an aim to harry head, although it wasnt a full success, he did strike a part of his face. Harry swore he could had saw some good memories flashing before his eyes. And whatever that scorching substance was, when it fell Againist Harry face.

He Howled

It Was Hell.

The pain had no culture, no pity, no mind, yet it consumed whatever it pleases. Its only criteria is if it can take it and reduce it to something molten and foul, paroxysm of agony triggered a guttural cry from the fluter. His hands clawed over his burning face, brutally gashed. Solvent swirls on it without any mercy, penetrating to the cells that should be protected by smooth skin but lie open. Surge of torments spirals all over him. Violent shaking forced through his whole body, with no assume of stopping. Monstrous chill continued running down his spine and made his ghostly skin crawl. Muscles going to giving up. The worst of the blood had spelled, ran freely in thick scarlet rivers amongst his whole face, staining his hair, matting them together before it soaked into his cloths and the floor. From a clear distance outside, it was like a high barking that carried well through walls and air. Lungs have no choice but to painfully and rigidly take in the chilled air around for a living breathe until they couldnt anymore. He have cried and screamed, maybe not evident, nevertheless it was as if he was calling for a help, but there was no help to come, perhaphs the strength in his voice perished. His breath taken away every second, he was in his greatest neccisity of taking an inhale.

Thats until he decided to surrender to the torturing and sink into the unfolded darkness.

He was in a heavy black cloud. Nothing to see, Nothing to hear, Nothing to feel, Just this heaviness in his whole body. He couldnt remember how to open his eyes, but when he did, he scrunched the opened one at the bright light that was sipping through his closed eyelid, in struggle he slowly opened it, desperately squinting in attempt to sharpen the blurred images before him. Pungent smell of hospital disinfect invading his nostrils. The room was silent apart from the beep beep sound you often hear in hospitals that indicates youre alive and Quiet talking. He started to sense something, or rather a material, soft but elastic tightening around his whole sore face, from chin to forehead, even one of his eyes were covered, it was very aching. When the sight of his survived eye arised, he perceived Someone bending over him, face watching his. What harry never toke notice of is that they are holding his weak hand, and that they have little tears in their eyes. The features were not clear, but it can be marked that they have a light brown hair and wearing something..blue? Harry attempted hardly to recognize who is this, but he coudnt with this wounded brain, then he heard the familiar word that assisted in that. "...Brother..." Harry tried to remember how to talk. No words came, he blinked trying to force his memory to recall the owner of this soft voice with broken tone. He was out of ability to even clear his throat. He tried to answer, to say something, but all what came out was a tiny whisper. "...augh....ma....rley?..." The other man wrapped his arms around the injured one shoulders and pulled him close, hugging him gently to not provoke the burn. "shhhhh...save your strength brother...it will be alright..." Marley had a hard time hiding his sniffs, but harry havent got enought focus to realize. His sibling tenderly patting his hand, giving a queit moment for the victim to adapt to the consciousness. Harry lie still, slowly started blinking, he wanted to see whats around him. But he cant lift anything off this deep pillow. He used the very bare left of his capability to move some little angles right and left for learing about his new surroundings. Glancing around the bright white coloured bedroom. He catched sight of someone wearing the same color for a coat, staring at him from the door. He strain to hear and makes sense of it all. No idea. Where is he and why? How long had he been here? He shut his eyes, trying to remember what had exactly occured. Then it all hits him with a bang, The memory of it all starts to occupy his thoughts, panicking he jolted up with rushing hands running at his bandages, making sure this is true, the wound hurting with every touch of his finger, he figured it all out.

He lived

He laid back in his bed, he felt powerless and heavier, Couldnt move his hands, head or bod, His eyes washed with the kind of emotion that only come when people break in ways with no way to be repaired. "Whoever did this bro...they are Not Getting Away With This!!!!" "Mr. Marley please calm down the patient is still in an unstable condition." Marley sighed, plummeting his head to the bed, holding his brother hand a bit tighter. "im sorry doctor...its just that..." He couldnt continue his sentence for some reason, instead he started a new one. "Harry...please get better...for your family...for your friends...for me...please..."

Harry spent the rest of his days in the hospital remaining still in the bed. His head eaither felt heavy or light. He lost the track of time and may needed somebody to tell him, but he never cared, he will let all the time pass without any hint of concern. He never felt that alone or empty before. Sometimes, he replay the events in his head and wonder what were the right words to say, what was it that could prevent everything, it wont change that he is all to blame. It might had been kinder to kill him than to constrain him with living beside this burn. Everytime he try to sleep and leave this living nightmare, he cant. He never had the enough hope to recover or be cured. He wont, he doesnt need, he already knows he will never get better, he will never be the same.

If only he didnt go behind that bar at 11 pm.

Why Did the Democratic South Become Republican?

To recap before moving on: In the late 1700s the American factions won their independence from Britain and formed a new country by compromising and coming together as Federalists and Anti-Federalists, in the early 1800s they found some unity under Jefferson as Democratic-Republicans, but from Jackson to the Civil War their differences pulled them apart with greater force than their commonalities united them together. The divisive new platforms of the parties create two polarized groups splitting America into Democrats/Confederates of the South and Republicans/the Union of the North by the start of the Civil War in 1861 under the Republican Lincoln;who ran on a platform which opposed the expansion of slavery.

To;understand how things went south so quickly, one has to understand how classical liberal positions can become socially conservative over time. The classical liberalism of Jefferson did not allow individual freedom for everyone, as it allowed for the freedom to own slaves and the freedom for states to be slave states. Thus, what was once progressive had become socially conservative over time, it was still technically liberal in the classical sense, just certainly not socially progressive but of course, let us not paint any party in any era with a broad brush, as both parties in any era are compromised of factions who agree only to varying extents.

Three Factions Of Modern Republicans To Oppose This

Although conservatism is complex, it is defined well as an opposition philosophy to liberalism. Through this lens, there is a type of conservatism that stands against for;brand;of liberalism. Modern American conservatism wants to conserve, which means not being progressive on a given issue and which by its nature is not conservative. Thus we get modern social conservatism which says no to social programs and federal power, except when it upholds conservative social values.;There is also a;more liberal version that;we call libertarianism. It is against all uses of state power for any reason and is a form of radical classical liberalism, combined with;traditional classical conservatism, which is willing to use federal power to keep order, but not inherently against social programs. These factions can be said to become;allies;the conservative coalition mentioned above, although the establishment of both parties tends to favor aspects of traditional classical conservatism.

TIP: When either party uses government power, they are traditional conservatives, when either party deregulates and lets the private market and individuals handle it, they are classically liberal. More than one ideology uses classical liberalism, and more than one uses classical conservatism, as all political ideologies grow out of these foundational ideologies.

Why Did The Democrats Lose The South Bringing New Data To An Old Debate

In 1960, all 22 U.S. Senators from the South were affiliated with the Democratic Party. Today, all but three are Republican.;For decades, historians and other researchers have debated what drove the exodus of white Southern voters from the Democratic Party. Were they turned away primarily by economic self-interest? Or did they abandon the party because they came to view it as too progressive on issues of racial equality?

One reason researchers have failed to find consensus on this central question of American political economy is that data limitations have hampered their efforts. To study views on civil rights, specifically, researchers need quality public polling data. Until recently, consistently worded survey questions on racial attitudesfrom both before and after the major Civil Rights victories of the 1960swere not widely available.

Fortunately, thats no longer the case thanks to the Roper Center at Cornell University, which has made available a wealth of Gallup polling data that pre-dates the Civil Rights movement.;

The turning point for white southern Democrats can be narrowed down to the Spring of 1963.

White voters in the South left the Democratic Party at much higher rates than other white voters because of their racially conservative views.

Almost none of the political shift can be explained by income growth among white Southerners or voters positions on other policy issues.

Johnsons plan wasnt as willing to give as much freedom to newly free slaves as Lincolns was. Johnson wanted to give the land back to the south unlike the RR. Johnsons plan gave less protection to freed slaves then the Radical Republicans plan. Unlike the 10% plan, the plan they had wanted to punish the south.

How Republicans Made Common Cause With Southern Democrats On Economic Matters

Roosevelts reforms also brought tensions in the Democratic coalition to the surface, as the solidly Democratic South wasnt too thrilled with the expansion of unions or federal power generally. As the years went on, Southern Democrats increasingly made common cause with the Republican Party to try to block any further significant expansions of government or worker power.

“In 1947, confirming a new alliance that would recast American politics for the next two generations, Taft men began to work with wealthy southern Democrats who hated the New Deals civil rights legislation and taxes,” Cox Richardson writes. This new alliance was cemented with the Taft-Hartley bill, which permitted states to pass right-to-work laws preventing mandatory union membership among employees and many did.

Taft-Hartley “stopped labor dead in its tracks at a point where unions were large, growing, and confident in their economic and political power,” Rich Yeselson has written. You can see the eventual effects above pro-Democratic unions were effectively blocked from gaining a foothold in the South and interior West, and the absence of their power made those regions more promising for Republicans’ electoral prospects.

The Parties Change Course

After the war, the Republican Party became more and more oriented towards economic growth, industry, and big business in Northern states, and in the beginning of the 20th;century it had reached a general status as a party for the more wealthy classes in society. Many Republicans therefore gained financial success in the prosperous 1920s until the stock market crashed in 1929 initiating the era of the Great Depression.

Now, many Americans blamed Republican President Herbert Hoover for the financial damages brought by the crisis. In 1932 the country therefore instead elected Democrat Franklin D. Roosevelt to be president.

The Democratic Party largely stayed in power until 1980, when Republican Ronald Reagan was elected as president. Reagans social conservative politics and emphasis on cutting taxes, preserving family values, and increasing military funding were important steps in defining the modern Republican Party platform.

Up until the post-World War II period, the partys hold on the region was so entrenched that Southern politicians usually couldnt get elected unless they were Democrats. But when President Harry S. It was the first time since before the Civil War that the South was not solidly Democratic, Goldfield says. And that began the erosion of the southern influence in the Democratic party.

After that, the majority of the South still continued to vote Democratic because it thought of the Republican party as the party of Abraham Lincoln and Reconstruction. The big break didnt come until President Johnson, another Southern Democrat, signed the Civil Rights Act in 1964 and the Voting Rights Act in 1965.

The Fifth Party System And The The New Deal And Conservative Coalitions

Now that we have clearly illustrated the above factions and ideologies, we can move on to the last round of changes which happened from roughly the 1930s, to WWII, to the 1960s, to the 1990s as the FDR supporting Progressive Social Liberal New Deal Coalition faced off against the Socially Conservative anti-New Deal Conservative Coalition .

From the 1930s to the 1990s, from Hoover to Goldwater, to Nixon, to Reagan, to Bush, the Conservative Coalition;drew southern solid southDixiecrat conservative Democrats out of the Democratic Party via their southern strategy. By the 1990s, this resulted in the modern American social conservative and sometimes classical liberal;Republican party. Likewise,;the New Deal coalition,;which opposed the conservative coalition, drew progressives into the Democratic Party and out of the Republican party under FDRs New Deal, LBJs Great Society program, and Clintons New Democrats. This resulted in;the modern American social liberal, and thus necessarily traditionally classically conservative in terms of authority;party during the same time.

Although the tension between these two factions starts in the 1930s with the New Deal, it comes to a boiling point over issues like States Rights, the Second Red Scare, and;Brown v. the Board of Education following WWII in the late 40s and 50s.

A Cross Section Of Black People

Nevertheless, a broad cross section of blacks made it to the Freedmens Conventions. There were many uniformed veterans of the Union army, who had fought against the Confederacy to win their peoples freedom. There were ministers, teachers, and tradesmen as well as plantation workers. The earliest conventions were dominated by free blacks , but as time went on an increasing number of former slaves took part. African Americans took considerable pride in the sight of black people meeting in such numbers, for such a serious purpose. Commenting on a convention held in New Orleans, Louisiana, in early 1865, a black newspaper editor, as quoted in Been in the Storm So Long: The Aftermath of Slavery, called it a great spectacle, and one which will be remembered for generations to come.

Among the most prominent black leaders at the conventions, some were Northern blacks who had come South to work as agents of the Freedmens Bureau , including Tunis G. Campbell and Martin R. Delany . South Carolina native Francis L. Cardozo had escaped slavery to become a minister in Connecticut. Leaders from among the ranks of the former slaves include such notable figures as Robert Smalls , whose bravery during the Civil War had made him famous, and Prince Rivers , a former coachman who had served as a sergeant in the Union army.

Progressive Era And The New Deal

As the 19th century drew to a close, the Republicans had been firmly established as the party of big business during the Gilded Age, while the Democratic Party strongly identified with rural agrarianism and conservative values.

But during the Progressive Era, which spanned the turn of the century, the Democrats saw a split between its conservative and more progressive members. As the Democratic nominee for president in 1896, William Jennings Bryan advocated for an expanded role of government in ensuring social justice. Though he lost, Bryans advocacy of bigger government would influence the Democratic ideology going forward.

Republicans again dominated national politics during the prosperous 1920s, but faltered after the stock market crash of 1929 and the onset of the Great Depression. In 1932, Franklin D. Roosevelt became the first Democrat to win the White House since Woodrow Wilson.

Whigs And The Slavery Issue: The Compromise Of 1850

A primary conflict between Democrats and Whigs revolved around Californias admission to the union as a free state, which would upset the sectional balance of power between free and slave states in Congress. The result was an arduous legislative battle between Southern and Northern representatives, with the South arguing that Congress and the states did not have the authority to legislate against the territorial expansion of slavery. Realizing that this sectional divide could split the country, Whigs and Democrats came to a compromise that they hoped would prevent secession. The ensuing Compromise of 1850 allowed California to be admitted as a free state, but strengthened the Fugitive Slave Law and made no provisions for how other territories could address the slavery issue.

The Whigs were unable to effectively address the slavery issue after 1850. Nearly all of their Southern members owned slaves, while the Northeastern Whigs were largely businessmen who sought national unity and a strong national market but cared little about the institution of slavery. There was no compromise that could keep the Whigs united, which contributed to the partys demise in the 1850s.

A Response To The Claim Welfare Is Equatable To Slavery

In the 1850s, inequality in the Northern big government cities, northern immigration in the big cities , and African slavery in the small government south all existed side-by-side. and in ways, so it is today . Northern cities still favor bigger government, and they still have problems of racism and inequality, Rural South still favors small government . This does not make the North of today equatable to the slave economy of the South of yesterday however.

There is this idea that welfare is equatable to slavery in this respect, as in both cases a societal structure is providing basic essentials for a class of people . This argument, often presented in tandem with the claim the parties didnt switch/change is essentially a red herring that misses the nuances we describe on this page .

The southern conservatives who held slaves and fought for the Confederacy essentially switched out of the Democratic party starting in the 1960s, and even continuing to the modern day , in response to LBJs welfare programs . In other words, if the southern conservative had wanted to oppress a class of people with welfare, one would logically assume they wouldnt have switched out of the Democratic party over time in response to welfare programs.

Today it is a Southern Republican who flies to Confederate flag, today it is a Republican who champions small government in America. Yesterday, it was a Southern Democrat.

Republican Voters Turn Against Their Partys Elites

The Tea Party movement, which sprang into existence in the early years of the Obama administration, was many things. It was partly about opposing Obamas economic policies foreclosure relief, tax increases, and health reform. It was partly about opposing immigration when Theda Skocpol and Vanessa Williamson;interviewed Tea Party activists across the nation, they found that “immigration was always a central, and sometimes the central, concern” those activists expressed.

But the Tea Party also was a challenge to the Republican Party establishment. Several times, these groups helped power little-known far-right primary contenders to shocking primary wins over establishment Republican politicians deemed to be sellouts. Those candidates didnt always win office, but their successful primary bids certainly struck fear into the hearts of many other GOP incumbents, and made many of them more deferential to the concerns of conservative voters.

Furthermore, many Republican voters also came to believe, sometimes fairly and sometimes unfairly, that their partys national leaders tended to sell them out at every turn.

Talk radio and other conservative media outlets helped stoke this perception, and by May 2015 Republican voters were far more likely to say that their partys politicians were doing a poor job representing their views than Democratic voters were.

Chapter 3: Fallen Leaves

As the sun rose into the sky, dapples of light slowly began to peek through the forest’s thick canopy. In the early hours of the morning the songbirds chirped, once again welcoming the warmth of the new day.

Caelian lied safely in his hollow under the roots, curled up into a ball on top of his over-sized flower bed. He was more lazily splayed out than usual, with his wings being a ruffled mess on either side of him. He stirred slightly in his sleep as a beam of light slowly crawled over to his face. He groaned as he covered his eyes with one of his wings, before rolling over and out of the sunlight.

He never appreciated the sun using it’s light as an alarm clock. He’d rather wake up whenever his body decided to, which was why he had taken to covering himself with his wings while he slept. Unfortunately, his tossing and turning in the night sometimes ruined his lazy sleep schedule.

He let his wings fold up against his back as his eyes drowsily blinked open. It was then that the memories of the previous day flooded back to him, and upon realizing that he still needed to return to Gaia, he forced himself up into a sitting position. He yawned as he grabbed onto one of the thick roots above him, using it as leverage to pull himself out into the open. Finally having enough room to stretch, he let his wings unfurl as he raised his arms. His wings shuddered as they were held out at their full length, before folding up against his back once again as he dropped his arms.

"Oh, you’re already awake.”

The voice caused Caelian to crane his neck upwards to see Nathaniel hovering in the air above him.

“Good,” Nathaniel said, “Don’t have to waste 15 minutes of my day waking you up.”

“It doesn’t take that long, does it?” Caelian asked, watching as Nathaniel drifted down and landed on one of the high-arching roots in front of him.

“It does. Sometimes, even longer,” He sighed, “But you’re up, so it’s fine. Surprising though, I figured you’d be super hard to wake up today, with all that running you were doing last night. What was up with that, anyways?”

“I’m not sure, actually,” Caelian said, as he tilted his head, “I just… felt like I needed to.”

“Excess energy, I guess,” Nathaniel shrugged, “Riemos sure likes to randomly fire you up. Well, go ahead and report back to Gaia, then. She’s been waiting long enough.”

“Are you not coming?” Caelian asked, as Nathaniel fluttered back into the air.

Nathaniel shook his tiny head, “Nah, I have stuff I need to do. Just don’t fall or anything, okay? And NO,” He quickly interjected, as Caelian began to open his mouth, “Do NOT just rely on Iaestia. Learn to like, at least GLIDE or something. Sheesh. Six wings. Can’t fly. Useless. Why have em.”

Nathaniel mumbled to himself as he zipped off into the forest, disappearing among the trees and leaving a small trail of glitter slowly falling down to the ground behind him. Caelian sat there for a moment, staring off into the direction he had vanished.

He absolutely was going to rely on Iaestia.

Caelian stood up and brushed off some moss that had been clinging to his clothes, before carefully navigating through the roots. As soon as his feet were able to hit solid ground again, he took off quickly through the forest in the direction of the Great Tree. If there was one thing Caelian could ever say he was good at, it was endurance. Sure, he wasn’t particularly fast, or strong, but by the time he reached the top of the spiraling stairway leading to Gaia’s dwelling, he wasn’t even tired or winded. He had even ran a bit to save time. Something Nathaniel definitely wouldn’t have approved of, but he wasn’t here right now to voice his worry about Caelian slipping and falling. As Caelian stepped underneath the shaded canopy, he paused. “Gaia?” He called, not immediately seeing her in her usual spot, curled up against her giant moss ball. He took a few steps forward, glancing around before his eyes locked onto a smaller figure. They were standing in front of the giant opening in the back of the room that looked out over the forest.

“Gaia!” Caelian called again as he ran over to her.

The goddess turned as Caelian called out, giving him a smile as he stopped in front of her. Even at a more “normal” size and height, she was still a few inches taller than him.

“Good morning, Caelian,” She said in her gentle voice, “I think this is the earliest you’ve ever come to visit me,” She laughed. “Is it?” Caelian asked, his tail lightly brushing across the floor. “The sun isn’t usually this low in the sky. That aside, Nathaniel said you’d visit today since you got back late last night. Tell me, is everything well in the town?”

“Oh, yeah! Everything seems to be, at least… Nobody really needed me for anything.” “I see,” Gaia gave him an empathetic smile, “Regardless of whether they needed you or not, thank you for checking in. I take it Garson had nothing to request of me either, then?” “He didn’t really mention you, honestly,” Caelian said, “He just… didn’t seem to like that I was there at all, I guess. He said that I should stop bothering to go back to the town.” “I see,” Gaia said softly, turning to look out over the forest. She let out a soft sigh, “Garson is a prideful man. I’m sure you can tell by now that he thinks I should have chosen him as my disciple. I can tell that many of the denizens agree with him.” Caelian watched as Gaia turned and slowly walked towards the center of the room. “But pride isn’t what I need in a disciple,” Gaia continued, stopping to face Caelian again from the middle of the room. “His envy merely shows he was never suited for the position.”

“Envy?” Caelian asked as he approached Gaia, stopping when he reached her side, “What does that mean?”

Gaia took a moment before answering, as she stared off in thought. “Envy is… something that starts from thoughts of comparison. Thoughts of inferiority and superiority. The outcome of someone thinking somebody else is better than them. It’s a desperate and bitter sense of wanting what someone else has. Garson has an ego, and feels by me choosing you over him, that he doesn’t measure up to you. That his accomplishments mean nothing, since he wasn’t chosen. So in turn, he may hate you for it. Envy is like a poison that rots the soul.” “Oh, thats…” Caelian paused, “It doesn’t… sound nice. Is… is that one of the emotions I don’t have?” “It is.” Caelian thought for a moment. Being something he wasn’t able to feel, he couldn’t really comprehend that sort of emotion. But from Gaia’s explanation, he could almost understand the cause for whatever that feeling was, at least. “Hey, Gaia?” Caelian asked after a few more moments of pause, “Before you never really explained negative emotions to me if I asked about them… I didn’t know envy was one of them, but… you did this time?”

“You’re right, I usually don't,” Gaia let out a soft sigh, “But I’ve been thinking lately… I’m no longer sure if shielding you from such things is what I should be doing anymore.”

Caelian remained silent as she turned to him and gently placed a hand on his shoulder. “Caelian, tell me,” She said quietly, “Last night in the forest, did anything seem unusual?” Caelian racked his mind for a moment, “Well… after Nathaniel went on ahead, after the sun set, I felt… something weird? Like something was watching me. In a weird way, though.”

“I see,” Gaia frowned, “You didn’t see anything?” “No, why?” Gaia gently released Caelian’s shoulder with a soft sigh, clasping her hands together and bringing them near her chest. “I have something I need you to do today, Caelian,” She said, “I’m sorry to bother you with tasks two days in a row.”

“Oh, it’s fine!” Caelian said, his tail wagging as he took a step forward, “What do you need?”

Gaia held out her clasped hands, Caelian watching with curiosity as a yellow glow began to envelope them. She gently lifted them apart as a yellow orb materialized in the space between them. Swirls of orange were spread across its golden surface, moving and twisting freely. It’s pulsing light was bright enough to make Caelian squint as Gaia gently held it out to him.

Caelian gingerly accepted the orb, noting that it was extremely lightweight, as if he wasn’t actually holding anything at all.

"What is it?” He asked, turning it over in his hands as he examined it.

“It’s mana in physical form. I need you to take this to each corner of the realm and leave a piece of it, along with the town.”

“Oh! Do I just break part of it off, then?” Caelian asked. Gaia shook her head and gently placed her hand against the orb. She let her palm rest against it for a moment, before gently digging her fingers in, her hand nearly disappearing as she scooped out part of the orb as if it were a liquid. It quickly reshaped itself into another smaller, perfectly round orb in her palm. While Caelian was staring in awe, she took the smaller orb and pressed it against the original, pushing with her palm as the large orb reabsorbed that which she had taken. “It should be easy for you to do this, since my power flows through you as well,” Gaia explained, “But please, do be careful. This is magic in its purest form. It could easily harm someone if they were to try and touch it.” “Wait, this your mana?” Caelian asked, “Shouldn’t you be conserving it?”

Gaia shook her head, “No, I can’t afford to right now. That presence you felt last night- I feel as though something managed to get through the barrier. I believe you wandered dangerously close to whatever it was.” “But... is that even possible?” Caelian tilted his head slightly, “The barrier is what you’ve been putting all of your energy into, so it should be super strong, right?”

“It is, however, there are a few things I can think of that could have slipped through regardless.” Gaia sighed as she gently wrapped her arms around herself, “Nothing normal should have been able to get through. That is what worries me. I know it’s a lot to ask and that it will take some time, but if you can get my mana fragments spread out, I can get a better sense of where everything is in the forest. If whatever slipped through is a threat, it needs to be located. I could take down my barrier for a bit to have enough mana to sense the realm as I would normally, but it’s too risky. I can’t be everywhere at once, but since this is made from my mana, as long as it's spread out, I won’t have to expend as much energy. The orbs will eventually fade, so I may need you to do this multiple times.” “Okay… But can’t you just take back some of the reserved mana you gave me?” Caelian asked, “Then maybe you’d have enough to keep the barrier up and sense everything in the forest? I don’t want you to be exhausted because you keep using so much mana...”

Gaia smiled, “I appreciate your concern, my little sprout. But don’t worry. Even at my weakest state, I am this realm’s Goddess, and I will be able to protect it. I won’t take back any of the mana I've given you yet. With how little I’ve been able to store in you so far, I’m not even sure it’d be enough. Then our connection would grow weaker for no purpose, and you may not be able to handle the mana orb anymore.”

Caelian looked down at the glowing orb. “Oh,” He said, “So… I guess it’s better this way, huh?” Gaia reached out and gently patted him on the head with a smile, “Worry not, Caelian. It was a good idea, thank you. Someday in the future that may be something I ask of you, but for now, we’ll have you continue to build it up and strengthen our bond.”

“Okay,” Caelian said, “I’ll place the fragments as fast as I can, then! Um, it might be a few days though, the Eternal Forest is pretty big…”

“I expected it to take a while. I’m sorry, i'm sure it will be tiring for you, but I’m relying on you.”

“Yeah!” Caelian beamed. “Don’t worry, I got it! I wish I could fly, though, I could do it a lot faster that way, I think…”

“I’m sorry I wasn’t able to teach you,” Gaia gave a sympathetic smile as she gave her own wings a light flap, “Someday you’ll manage, though, I’m sure.”

Caelian nodded, “Yeah, I hope so. But okay, I’ll be back in a few days, probably!”

“Leave a fragment in the town first, if you could,” Gaia called after Caelian as he was hurrying out of the treetop, “I’m worried for the forest denizens.”

“I will!” Caelian called back, not turning his head as he replied. He quickly stepped out from under the canopy, the bright sun causing him to squint. Clutching the mana orb tightly, he jumped off the edge of the platform.

Nathaniel wasn’t around to screech at him this time.

As he fell, he briefly considered trying to open his wings and see if anything would come of it, but quickly dismissed the idea as Iaestia formed her protective bubble around him.

He stood up as soon as the bubble stopped bouncing along the ground and burst open, shaking some of the water off as he hurried into the forest. The shade from the forest canopy mixed with his soaking wet clothes gave him a bit of a chill, but hopefully movement could keep him from getting too cold.

As he neared the edge of town, he wondered what the denizens would think of him visiting two days in a row. He definitely had never done so before. He wished Nathaniel could have been with him, but since he was just meant to leave a mana fragment and didn��t need to visit anyone, it should be fine.

He had half-expected some of the surprised looks he got when he entered town. He noticed some curious looks towards the glowing orb he was holding—it was about the same size, if not a bit larger than his head, so it was pretty attention-grabbing— but nobody stopped him to ask any questions.

He paused to look around, trying to determine where he should leave the fragment. Gaia had said it could injure someone if they touched it, so maybe somewhere out of the way?

“Ah, great. It’s you again.”

Caelian turned at the sound of Garson’s voice to see the man walking towards him with an annoyed expression.

“An’ what in the goddess’ name is that ?” The older man asked, pointing at the mana orb.

“Be careful, Gaia said it can hurt you guys if you touch it,” Caelian said, taking a step back so Garson’s hand wasn’t so close to it, “She asked me to leave a piece of it here.”

“Ah, of course. Should’ve guessed you wouldn’t have come here on your own. Is that some of her mana? What are you doing with that?”

“Something might have gotten through the barrier, so-”

“Bah! As if that’s even possible. The goddess has been protecting us for years, nothin’ can get through her barriers.” Garson interrupted.

“Well, she said something could have. So she asked me to leave a mana fragment here to protect the town.”

Garson folded his arms across his chest as he stared Caelian Down. “If somethin’ DID somehow get through the barrier, isn't that somethin’ you should be takin’ care of, forest prince ?”

“I am, I’m going to-”

“No, I don’t mean making Gaia weaken herself even more to scatter her mana throughout the realm so she can deal with it. I mean you take care of it.”

“What do you mean?” Caelian asked.

“Ugh, this halfie can’t do anythin, ’” Garson grumbled, as if Caelian wasn’t standing right in front of him, “You know what a disciples job is, right? To assist the goddess and protect the realm? Or are you just planning to be a little mana jar for the goddess and nothing else?”

“I’m… not understanding what you mean,” Caelian said, “What am I doing wrong?”

“What I mean is, Gaia shouldn’t be havin’ to run herself ragged over all this. You’re supposed to be the disciple, so you should’ve been off huntin’ down whatever it is that supposedly got through the barrier. But Gaia picked some young, weak an’ stupid halfie so all she ever does is baby you since she’s worried about you gettin’ hurt. It’s admirable of her, sure, but she shouldn’t be havin’ to expend more energy to protect a useless disciple, when it should be the disciple protectin’ her.

If Ezekial were still around this wouldn’t have even been a problem, nobody would be havin’ to worry about whether or not the Goddess is running low on mana, an’ he’d have been off doing something about the problem without Gaia even havin’ to tell him to.”

Caelian stared at him blankly. Maybe Garson was right, that he should’ve been able to do more. It was true that if Ezekiel was still Gaia’s disciple, with how long they had been together, that there would have been such a surplus of mana, Gaia wouldn’t have needed to have mana orbs spread out. But he wasn’t Ezekial. He was himself, and he was trying his best. “Gaia gave me an order so I’m going to follow it. I’m sorry you think that’s not enough. I can’t do more than what she asks of me. Do you know a good spot to put a fragment where nobody will touch it and hurt themselves?” He asked, his voice almost unnaturally monotone.

Garson gave a snort, “What’s wrong, halfie? Can’t feel anger or shame so you just go monotone on me? Whatever, fine. Put it up in one of the trees supportin’ the rope bridges, then.”

“Okay, thanks,” Caelian said, quickly turning and fast-walking away. He didn’t need to turn and look to be able to tell Garson was still glaring daggers at him. At least as he got away from Garson, he could slowly start to feel his elementals’ influence again.

He quickly ascended a nearby staircase that spiraled around one of the trees that supported the intricate rope bridge system that was built above the town. The stairs were almost like a mini version of the ones around the Great Tree, except more obviously man-made and not neatly integrated into the tree trunk.

The rope bridge swayed ever so slightly as he stepped out onto it from the circular platform that surrounded the tree. He didn’t go up onto the bridges very often, but whenever he did, he thought the swaying from side to side was fun. He couldn’t understand why some people would feel nauseous walking on them, or whatever they meant when they said they were afraid of it.

He decided on one of the taller trees that was more towards the center of town and quickly made his way over to it, the planks reverberating with each step he took. He looked up at the branches that sat a few feet higher than the circular platform reached. Carefully tucking the mana orb under one arm, he slowly clambered up the side of the tree. He swung his leg over a branch at the first opportunity to do so, and sat down on it.

He took the orb again in both hands, staring down at it for a moment before taking his left hand and gently pressing his palm against it, as Gaia had demonstrated. He dipped his fingertips into it, scooping out a handful of liquid that quickly formed into a smaller orb in his palm.

He admired the smaller orb for a moment, before leaning forward and gently placing it in between some of the branches to keep it stable. He tried to, at least. As soon as he had released it, it floated up into the air a few inches before coming to a stop.

Well, at least he didn’t need to worry about it falling.

Caelian quickly slipped back down the tree trunk and onto the rounded platform surrounding it, before making his way back down onto the forest floor. He walked at a brisk pace, leaving town quickly, with the mana orb now a little bit smaller.

He slowed his pace a bit as he got deeper into the forest, trying to decide where his next stop should be. He could probably make it to the south-western corner before the end of the day. It would still take him almost a week to reach the other corners of the realm, however.

Dusk had set by the time he made it to his destination. He left another mana fragment, this time tossing it into the center of the lake that was a landmark for the south-western corner. As he had expected, it gently rose above the water and reflected down like a miniature full moon.

Deciding to take a quick break, he clambered up onto one of the large nearby rocks and sat down. He held the mana orb tightly against his chest as he rested his chin on it, quietly watching the fragment as it floated above the water. Crickets chirped loudly in the night, adding to the croaking of the frogs that inhabited the lake. Caelian noted that a few of them resting on the lilypads near the shore seemed to be looking in the direction of the fragment, as if they were admiring it, too.

Caelian’s eyes felt tired. His urge to sleep was battling with his desire to not make Gaia wait too long for him to finish his task. He was considering trying to push through the night, despite it being harder to navigate. At least he had a portable light source with him that produced a bit more light than his elemental lanterns did.

He stifled a yawn as he forced himself to stand back up. Though he was sleepy, his body at least wasn’t physically tired yet. He’d try to push on for a bit longer.

He paused when a soft yellow light appeared beside him, quickly forming into a lantern. Clouds floated around near the bottom of the lantern, and a bright yellow halo encircled the middle, where the yellow light of the elemental was stored. A rainbow, aura swirled around the lantern at all times, gently phasing in and out.

“What? No, I’ll be fine,” Caelian said, responding to a voice only he could hear.

“You should sleep , don’t push yourself. You can’t help Gaia if you're sleep deprived. ”

Ishtar, his celestial elemental, was about as protective over him as Iaestia. Though Iaestia usually protected him from physical harm, Ishtar usually worried over things that could affect his health in other ways.

“It’s fine,” Caelian repeated, rubbing at his eye as he spoke, “I won’t go for too much longer, just until the moon is a bit higher up in the sky. Then I'll stop.”

“Take care of yourself ,” The soft voice said.

“I will. Thank you for worrying.”

Ishtar stayed materialized as they gently floated behind Caelian, following him as he slid off of the rock and looked into the forest. He’d decided to head east now, and hopefully reach his destination within two days.

It was a peaceful walk, with the mana orb and Ishtar gently illuminating his immediate vicinity with soft yellow light as Caelian navigated the forest. He wouldn’t be able to go on for long, as his mind was beginning to feel foggy. He was on autopilot as he swerved through the trees. That was why it took him a while to notice that the forest had grown eerily quiet.

He stopped, becoming alert as he listened to the loud silence. He couldn’t hear any of the usual sounds of the forest, not even the rustle of leaves as the wind disturbed them. He had a sudden recollection of when this had happened before.

That same weird feeling hit him.

He took a step back, gripping the mana orb tightly as his eyes darted around the dark forest. He had ended up in a small clearing of trees, where the moonlight shone down directly onto him, but still barely giving enough light to see under the dark forest canopy.

The feeling in his gut wouldn’t go away. It was as strange of a sensation the first time he felt it- like an emotion he had never felt before. But how? What was it then that he was feeling for the first time, that his elementals had never given him before?

“Are you afraid?”

The voice made him whip around in surprise, his wings flaring out and flapping to help propel him backwards, causing his feet to skid lightly through the dirt. He immediately saw who had spoken to him. It appeared to be a cloaked figure, though they were low against the ground, as if they had been crawling. It was almost reminiscent of a predator, poised and ready to pounce on their prey.

The purple cloak concealed the person almost entirely, with the hood pulled up and hanging partially down into their face. But it couldn’t cover the large, leathery gray ears that stuck out the back of the hood, nor the curved horns sprouting from the being’s head.

“My apologies,” The voice said, in the same hauntingly soft tone that had made Caelian jump, “I forgot how strong Agiel’s aura can be.”

“W-what?” Caelian stuttered, “What do you mean?”

The figure remained still for a moment. They slowly rose from the ground into a hunched over position. The added height let Caelian see the person’s eyes shining out from under the hood: Icy blue and without any noticeable pupils.

“You’re Caelian, aren’t you?” They asked, “The nature Goddess’ newest disciple.”

“I am,” Caelian said, “Who are you?”

“Someone that has been sent to give you your last elemental. I apologize that we were not able to contribute sooner.”

“What do you mean?” Caelian asked, “I already have an elemental from each realm.”

Caelian thought he saw something flash behind their pupiless blue eyes, but they retained their calm, soft tone, “I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised you’re unaware. Where I'm from isn’t called The Lost Realms for nothing, I suppose.”

“I’ve… never heard of The Lost Realms,” Caelian admitted, “There’s a fifth realm?”

“There is,” The figure confirmed, “And always has been. Realms of Nature, Water, Fire, Celestial… and Shadow.”

“I’m sorry, nobody ever mentioned your realm- Wait, so you brought an elemental, too?” Caelian asked.

“Yes. There’s emotions you lack, is there not?”

“Well… yeah,” Caelian said, seeming unsure of himself.

“I have for you your fifth elemental, then. The gift of The Lost Realms,” The cloaked figure said, “We apologize that we are a few years late compared to the other realms- It’s hard for us to come by sprites that are powerful enough to become elementals.”

Caelian couldn’t help but feel a twinge of excitement at the thought of another elemental. He truly had no idea there was a fifth realm. He had never even heard anyone imply that there were more than the four he knew of.

“Oh! That’s great! I’ve always been curious about the emotions I don’t have! Oh, but… Gaia always said that the ones I didn’t have were bad and that I wouldn’t like them… That they were considered negative emotions.”

Though it was hard to tell, the person under the cloak seemed to silently tip their head to the side, ever so slightly.

“There’s no such thing as negative emotions,” They said, “They’re all important. Are you really content feeling incomplete?”

“Incomplete?” Caelian asked.

“Tell me: Has nobody ever claimed you to be ill? Called you unnatural? A freak? That you can’t relate to them because you can’t feel the same emotions they do?”

Caelian remained quiet, the two of them standing there in the silence of the forest for a while, until the cloaked figure continued on.

“Are you truly fine with only having half of the emotions that exist? Would you not want to be thought of as normal?” They asked.

“Half?” Caelian asked, his eyes growing wide, “I… I only have half?”

The figure nodded, “Nature, water, fire, and celestial only embody half of the spectrum of emotion.”

“So… just that one elemental can give me the other half?” Caelian asked quietly.

“Correct. Accepting this elemental will provide you with the other half of the emotional spectrum. Shadow encompasses many things, you see.”

Caelian was practically vibrating at this point, “Oh, wow… I… I knew I was missing some but I… I never knew I only had half of…”

He watched as the figure carefully pulled something out from underneath their cloak. They set it down gently, before taking a step back, giving Caelian more space to see what it was. He recognized it almost immediately when the moonlight illuminated it: An elemental lantern.

It looked just like his own lanterns, except with an obviously different element inhabiting it. He wanted to say it glowed a dark purple, but glowing wasn’t quite the right way to describe it. It almost looked like the lantern was sucking in the light, and emitting an inky darkness around it. Pure black spheres were constantly emitting from the dark light of the elemental inside of it, almost looking like leaking water as they rose upwards before disappearing into the night.

It was beautiful, in it’s own way. Caelian wasn’t at all familiar with the shadow element. But if this was what a shadow elemental looked like, the kind of power shadow sprites possessed must have been impressive.

“Thank you, but… I’m not sure… would Gaia let me?” He asked.

“Surely, if it's what you want, Gaia would understand?” The figure asked, “They’re emotions that everyone feels, after all. They’re no worse than the ones you have now. Don’t you want to fill in that void? Or perhaps you prefer feeling nothing?”

Caelian remembered all of the times his emotions ceased and he felt the emptiness he knew all too well. But would having negative emotions feel better than that feeling? Something to fill that void?

Caelian’s other three elementals materialized, huddling close to him alongside Ishtar. He thought they were trying to say something, but it was like a quiet whispering in the back of his mind that he couldn’t quite make out.

Caelian stared down at the lantern, lost in thought. He did want it. The thought of never feeling that empty feeling again was enticing. The only thing holding him back from immediately taking it was a nagging feeling in the back of his mind. He slowly knelt down, observing the lantern from a short distance.

“What’s your name?” Caelian asked. He was met with silence.

“I apologize for interrupting, but she won’t be able to speak with you until you’re linked,” The cloaked figure said.

“Oh, right,” Caelian said, remembering that nobody else could hear his elementals when they spoke. Of course he wouldn’t be able to hear them yet.

He took a few more seconds to observe the lantern. It certainly gave off a much different aura to any of his other elementals. Perhaps due to how different the emotions were supposed to be?

But he had decided. Gaia may be reluctant to do it, but if he took the elemental back with him, perhaps he could convince her to link the two of them together, as she had done with the others. It was what he wanted. He was tired of feeling nothing . He wanted to at least feel something . Most of all, he wanted to be considered normal by the forest denizens. Maybe, if he could finally understand and know all of their emotions, they’d hate him less.

He would beg Gaia if he had to.

Shifting the mana orb to rest under one arm, he shuffled forward just enough to be within reach of the lantern. He examined it for a moment longer before slowly reaching out his arm and gently touching his fingers against the cold metal.

That same coldness shot up his arm, paralyzing him as he suddenly struggled to breathe. He wanted to pull his arm away, but his body refused to do what he wanted it to. An inky black ooze had begun pouring out of the lantern, and was slowly snaking its way up his arm.

His elementals acted quickly, each one of them flying protectively in front of Caelian and releasing a blast of elemental energy down onto the lantern, knocking it over and away from Caelian. The ooze released its grip on him, causing him to fall backwards. The mana orb tumbled somewhere away from him as he used both of his arms to prop himself up, panting heavily as he looked at the now still lantern.

“H- hey, what,”

A piercing shriek made him bite his tongue as he flinched. The purple lantern shot out four more inky arms, each one of them wrapping around one of Caelian’s elementals. Caelian tried to react, but before he could stand, something slammed down into his back. The wind was knocked out of him as his chest slammed into the ground, before a blow to his side made him tumble over. His vision began to blur as the strange feeling from before increased in strength, feeling like it was going to suffocate him.

The last thing he heard before passing out was the sound of shattering glass.

I guess

so since that mysterious slash implies what are my fave canonical things about AB too I’ll say that there isn’t much- I go with what sherry says on canon rather than IAMP and PC because while there are a lot of things I had influence over in both projos there are a lot of things I would have done differently so we’ll start with the bio

literally all the things are accurate sooo its hard lol. Obviously the political situation has changed and the economic situation is its usual rollercoaster (WELL… but thats another time). ok where to start I will try to not make this an essay and i can elaborate more if you’re curious

- a lot of people will wonder about whether a province lives in the capital or the biggest city etc. and I have to say in Bertie’s case it is NEITHER. He’d never willingly live in (d)E(a)dmonton (sorry ed ilu) because Ed represents Government which he Hates and while he would spend a fair bit of time in Calgary he gets claustrophobic/exhausted - he still in my mind represents more of the rural bits of the province than the cities. I think he might move around a little, but he probably lives on a ranch between both cities but within sight of the mountains. I’m sure he has a place to stay in each city, but he’s a country boy at heart and appreciates his space, peace and quiet.

- Particularly space because Where else is he going to keep his 3 trucks + 2 ATVs + horses + 100000 cows + boat + canoe + kayak + all his camping junk + motorbikes + dirtbikes + tractor + other junk that people leave at his place

- that said his ‘birthplace’ is the southern ‘half’ of the province so he tends to kind of hover around there more- as i said he owns a ranch rather than a farm because the Quality Ranch Land is in the south and the Good Farm Land is in the north (and being eaten up by ugly houses ugh)

- still I think he spends a fair amount of time working up north in the Fort Mac area because Why Not make All the money. Even if you’re a rancher boy in the middle of nowhere, everyone in this province has ties to the oil industry one way or another. It wouldn’t make sense for him NOT to work in Oil and Gas because it’s literally the only job in the province lmao.

- His driving playlist consists of: Dean Brody, Corb Lund, Keith Urban, Ian Tyson, and the obligatory Nickelback which he listens to Un-ironically but also to piss off/drown out passengers when they’re annoying him

- He’s easily annoyed. By Everything. And Everyone. He’s the current national scapegoat and he takes it Extremely Personally depending on the context but also he has a relatively affectionate relationship with everyone and usually expresses his affection by pointed jabs.

- like he literally gets along with everyone on a personal level and not just because he buys them drinks- his worst relationships are probably with BC and Ontario and that’s just because he lives to irritate them and they respond with an appropriate amount of salt. He still doesnt mind hanging out with them and bc/ab/on/qc is an unstoppable team. He just gets extremely sensitive when anyone asks to borrow money from him and will give you an earful of ‘i work SO HARD for this money to put FOOD on YOUR TaBLe’

- generally really tight fisted with money………. only when other people are looking. he makes a big deal about how little he spends on essential services and you just look at him like ‘so you’re saying you have the money to get all this crap for this rodeo coming up but you dont have the money to take yourself to the hospital after’ and hes like [coughs up blood anime style] ‘im ok i have whiskey and benadryl at home’ [adjusts his diamond studded hat]

- really big on loyalty and straightforward conversations and has NO patience for any hypocrisy or doublespeak no matter how small. The slightest of things can send him reeling with Betrayal. Also this makes him either tight lipped or TMI, there is no in between.

- like literally reeling he’s very top heavy and you could blow him over with a sneeze, he’s all bark and only some bite. When he’s good he’s Real Good but when he’s bad he’s like a foot in the grave bad

- he’s the baby of the prairie bros but also the one with the brains- and i don’t mean in an academic sense i mean in the ‘so crazy it just might work’ sense.

- literally he’s an idiot he doesnt understand how equalization payments work no matter how many times you explain it to him. He doesn’t understand a lot of things re: the economy but he never shuts up about them.

- the easiest way to piss him off is to threaten his autonomy in any way, he will stop whatever he’s doing to put a boot up yer ass if you Dare suggest something like ‘why don’t you let ontario/canada take care of that for you’ even if he knows the way he’s doing something is garbage he will go out of his way to keep doing it because its ‘my way or the highway’.

- ‘why do you have all those guns’ ‘oh you know hunting deer and stuff’ [really its because he’s terrified a rat is going to sneak into his barn or something] [but he does actually hunt] [and he’s the type of guy to have the ‘trespassers will be shot’ signs]

- I haven’t figured out WHAT truck he drives yet but i am PROUD OF HIM for no longer putting truck nuts on it, THANK GOD that went out of fashion. (That said he does not have the stacks- his truck is lifted and Shiny and also has a handful of Alberta Strong decals/stickers.) Newf probably gave him a sticker of “The Rock” or a nfld flag and he Loves it. On a scale of most to least obnoxious trucks its Mac - Bert - Cal - Ed. It’s probably a white truck.

- i should think about things he loves more, this headcanon list is mostly things that make him angry oops xDD he loves animals a lot, and not just to eat i swear. The bigger and the more horns the better.

- he really loves driving a lot, it’s like a big part of his independence factor. I think sometimes he will just drive aimlessly late at night/early morning when it’s not busy and just go and find somewhere to look at the sky.

- he looooves digging up fossils in his spare time, or just interesting rocks in general. If you say the words animatronic dinosaur he is ALREADY THERE

- he watches a lot of sci fi and really loves star trek. So Much. he’s totally attempted mowing crop circles in his lawn/fields probably multiple times. he’s still waiting for the ufos to come land. Also has a thing for spooky places and cryptids and those weird inexplicable twilight-zone like events that only happen on road trips. did i mention the Giant Roadside Attractions.

- he has this persona of being a traditional/small-and-big-c conservative but he’s actually really into innovation and trying new things, meeting new people, etc. He interacts with so many different people lately that he’s trying to take the time to really re-evaluate himself and move away from the Klein-era “Severely Normal People” image because it doesn’t reflect him. The issue is he’s more likely to vote on economy rather than social issues so his actual progressiveness gets hidden by lack of political representation (and lets be honest he has Always hated politics). He’s got a lot of crap to sort through but he catches people who underestimate him off guard.

- was probably raised methodist/protestant/whatever but is mostly pretty secular, but he has some definite strong holdovers that make him uncomfortable about certain subjects and his first reaction to being uncomfortable is always anger.

- completely oblivious to being hit on or something or really gay situations around him but is that type of person who is like [cant walk too close to another dude because what if it looks gay bro].

- his fave cow is named buttercup

- he has definitely woken up after a night out with friends naked and alone duct taped to an air mattress and floating in the middle of a lake. true story.

- he will macgyver his way out of any situation. doesn’t mind getting down and dirty in the mud when it’s necessary. exactly the type of person to shove his hands in bitumen and squish it around or to pick up a rock and lick it or to shove a thermometer up a cow. When he gets squeamish he does his best to be bullheaded and pretend like Nothing is Wrong until he faints.

- his french is crap but he Tries- the french he knows is backwater northern AB french which he’s too shy to bring up so he feigns ignorance. His german is good and his ukrainian is passable, his spanish is fine, he’s trying to get the hang of some other languages but doesn’t tell anyone he’s practicing because he hates getting made fun of xD

- the hat and boots are Absolutely to make him look taller than he actually is. He doesn’t wear inserts but he does make sure the sole/heel on any boot he buys is Thick. Smol insecure man with a Big hat. Will spend 300 bucks on shoes, but he actually does ride/work so its an investment for him.

- heads to Arizona/Mexico in the winter when he’s not working, otherwise Banff/Jasper are his ‘budget’ vacations lol.

What Are We Doing, Humanity?

I really think that, considering it all. Humans including myself, are not evil.

We are stupid. Which is an odd way to start this out, but if you stay with me I promise I will explain.

We cling to nature without realizing it, Defend our nurture without even second guessing it, and openly attack those who oppose either because of fear, prejudice and disbelief.

The way you are raised affects so much about you, that you will never fully realise. It will affect you, be you the opposite of what you were nurtured to believe, in the middle, or believe exactly what you were told.

And in the background nature, the natural instincts to cut off weaker links, to cling to negative experiences as they hold more value, to challenge things, to sensationalize and dramatize and fear everything, to believe in pure self preservation and fear what you don't understand because being cautious of it no longer works.

These things build you, and nobody is a special snowflake, or a bigot or a typical or a cis scum or any of that... no theyre all just people. People who have real problems, who deal with real things, and you're never gonna know their full story, and most likely you don't want to.

Its easy to be judgemental because its hardwired into your code.

Society has no more developed in the last 100 years than it has in the last 1000

Because people are not compatible.

We have the ability to reason, but we don't use it

LGBT is as much of a thing as BLM which is as much of a thing as Mental disorders which are just as real as physical disorders. The point is that they are different.

Like a telephone game you learn something and it gets skewed and skewed till the message isn't there anymore. not People are not uneducated, some just have the "wrong" education to deal with the situation, others have the "right" but nobody, not one of them has the balls to admit that.

Its easier to judge and to hate, to laugh and berate than it is to try to understand or move on.

People overreact and jump on bandwagons and soon enough an entire group of people are labeled as something to be mocked or hated, just because the original message was lost. Those that get caught in the crossfire don't matter.

I don't care if you're an SJW, or A Feminist, or A Bigot, or a Conservative or a Liberal or a Middlist or Hindu or asian, or black or white or straight or bi or queer. or anything

I care if you are smart enough to realize the people around you are NOT you. they didn't share your experiences. they don't know you, all they know is what they choose to believe and what they choose to believe is usually what they know.

and no amount of mocking, or prodding or self righteous "Educating" is going to change that. because people aren't stupid. they're simply different.

Society doesn't work because not everyone is on the same page.

and 8 billion people later? we will Never be on the same page.

The most you can do, no matter what you believe is stop spreading the hatred. the insults, the laughs, the jokes the disgust, the drama the sensationalized media.

Stop disbelieving everything and question it, learn about it, accept that you Just Might Be Wrong.

You want world peace? Work for it.

There is no happy endings

No Right way of doing things.

Morality and Ethics are as maleable as clay
