I wanna know your thoughts on some of the animatics/AMVs in the fandom honestly there’s so many great ones, I’ve only seen one amv that made me question my sanity, so I think they are overwhelmingly amazing
To be honest, I don't think I really saw that many. Spoilers ahead for some LN fan content.
The AMVs that come to mind (for me) are the JT Music songs animated by Harry101UK, RenLII and ooCatoo's 'Open up your eyes'. Ren and Cat made amazing LN stuff, but they sadly retired from LN (Cat moving onto other fandoms, and I think Ren left the internet entirely (or moved on to another fandom under a different name)).
I watched Harry101UK years ago when I was in my 'portal' phase, though I still wish he'd make the next part of 'going home', so it took me by surprise when he made his Portal - Little Nightmares crossover video. I love the crossed over enemies and obstacles in it, like the Patient P-Bodies and tiny cubes and cores, and the section of Six wearing the long-fall boots. Not to mention the amazing cover of LN2's theme, the turret vocal cover of the Six's theme part of it was epic. And I also wasn't expecting it to be big enough to reach the LN subreddit or for Harry to then make animated videos for JT's LN songs.*
As for animatics, I've seen even fewer. I only really remember watching some of Burnt Paws' videos like 'Heart heart head' and 'Happy halloween'. I also watched Mai's video 'Six's guilt' and was sad that she wouldn't continue it due to the reveal of LN2 being a prequel. Then she made her animatic 'Old Friends Anew', and since it was post-LN1, thus Six has her powers, and she encounters Mono again, I was hooked. I love it whenever the fandom brings Mono and Six back together again, but with Six also having powers this time, putting her on more equal ground with Mono.
When part 2 finally came out, I liked that when Mono mentioned that she left him, Six got to finally speak up about some of the things Mono did that made her lose trust him, as most of the time the things Six went through gets ignored and overshadowed by what Mono went through. But Six unfortunately gets interrupted and she doesn't continue, which disappointed me a bit (Though in ScruffiBerri's 'Togetherness AU', she manages to voice the things Mono did wrong to her without interruption, which is one of the breaths of fresh air from Scruffi's AU).
And then Mai made the third and final part of 'Old Friends Anew' much sooner than I expected, but... it honestly was pretty underwhelming because it was just basically like a business transaction between Thin Man and the Lady. And the odd transition makes it more so, because part 2 ends with Mono and Six reunited in the tower (albeit, Mono snatched Six into a TV), and then it suddenly is a conversation between Thin Man and the Lady. Pretty underwhelming ending in my opinion.
That's all I really have to say on AMVs and animatics.
*Also a little ramble is that Harry's Portal - Little Nightmares crossover made my mind conjure up a 3-way crossover AU between LN, Portal and Undertale. Basically Six drops Mono in the Signal Tower as usual, but Mono ends up falling through a portal and landed on the yellow flower bed at the start of Undertale and proceeds to go through the events of the game in Frisk's stead (since Frisk isn't there). While Six went through the screen portal after dropping Mono, but instead of the apartment living room, she ends up flying out of a monitor of (would-be) Chell's cell. Glados notices Six, is confused about the unexpected appearance, but goes along with it and Six goes through the events of Portal 1 and 2 in Chell's stead (since like Frisk, Chell isn't there either). At some point, Mono wonders how things are going for Six, and Six is having fun falling through a portal on the floor and another on the ceiling like every player did at one point. And when Mono is standing in the sunset with Toriel, Sans, Papyrus, Alphys, Undyne and Asgore at the end of the pacifist route, he again wonders how Six doing wherever she is, and it crosscuts to Six walking out in the sunny wheat-field after Glados finally gave her her freedom post dealing with Wheatley.
I probably won't ever make anything for this 3-way crossover but others are free to do so if they want.

for the ask game - top three cases?
Oh damn, that's difficult, it's been years since I touched canon. I watched thh semi-spoiled, knowing a few of the deaths because of seeing them in the AMVs, sdr2 mostly blank, but hyped up for komahina and ndrv3 fully spoiled, as much as one can be spoiled, immersed in the fandom and every scrap I could learn before getting to watch a full let's play, so of course that affected my opinions, and then they got shaped in the river of seeing people's takes and rewrites.
SDR2 ch4 has got to be up there, if it were top 3 trials that made me actually cry sdr2 would take the whole cake, but this and also their ch2 are some of the most memorable and emotional for me, so yeah. It's just that as a murder case ch2 went with classics and ch4 went with whimsy and shit I would have never thought of, so it's the first one that comes to mind, my number one.
For my sanity, I am disqualifying ch5 of sdr2, it was a lot of things and I don't think I can consider it the same as other investigations and trials, the key elements were really left to luck and the only way to get out of a stalemate was to choose to believe that Komaeda got the luck he wanted, so it just. It wasn't a murder mystery case anymore. It was a terrorist attack and then continued psychic warfare from beyond the grave. It doesn't count.
And v3 had a good ch5 until nearly the end, but as a hater, the ending of the trial ruins it for me. It had to be this way, and it makes things more tragic (good), but I am going to stay mad about how Kaito went out. I hate that he got what he wanted and Kokichi was brushed off.
So the other two spots have to be thh ch5 and v3 ch4, and I am listing them together because I haven't been the same since the parallels between naegiri and ougoku(platonicplatonicplatonic) canon dynamics have been pointed out to me. What if you had a friend shaped guy who trusts you, but you sacrificed him because the goal justifies the means and you need to end the killing game. And they both come with a delicious side of relationship drama, great potential for shippy angst. Like, in v3 first ouruma has "Honey" by Kesha moment, then saiou has their "gays having bad breakups without even dating" moment, and then (and not without Kokichi's meddling) Kaito decides that Friendship Ended with Saihara, coughing up blood is my new best friend. In thh the gamigiri of naegamigiri are fighting, being the main people throwing accusations, there's the doubt, the betrayal, the unidentified body (you love to see that) and the unexpected good ending, it's great.

everytime we touch, shake it, and starstrukk for synthia!!
S/I Asks - AMV Song Edition
Synthia, yes!! Yes, I will love to talk about her.
EVERYTIME WE TOUCH :: How would your s/i describe your f/o? How would your f/o describe your s/i?
Synthia would describe Siebren as a brilliant genius and the sweetest man she's ever met. She'd talk about how he's been through so much, more than what would seem humanly possible, and yet he still remains himself and would not let the music overcome him. She'd mention how kind and understanding he's been regarding her memory loss, that he never made her feel bad or forced her to pick up where they left off, and how happy he was that she fell in love with him all over again. "I don't know how I couldn't love him, given how...truly wonderful he is. I feel grateful to have regained that part of my life."
Sigma would call her "as kind as she is intelligent, and more luminous than the brightest star in the universe..." He'll either go on a huge ramble about how amazing she is or say something symbolic and trail off in thought. He'd also say she's his grounding force that keeps his mind together, which means a lot since the people he's working with aren't all the friendliest or understanding (minus Sombra)...
SHAKE IT :: If your s/i had to pick a song for karaoke (whether it’s one by themselves or perhaps.. with someone else too?), what would it be?
I honestly could not answer that, sorry! 😅 I've never been to karaoke, I don't even know if her chosen voice-claim can sing, and I can't really think of a good song to sing anyway! Maybe something fun? I don't know, I'm sorry >_<
STARSTRUKK :: Name a fact about your s/i! [Or, alternatively, the sender can ask any question about your s/i if desired!]
She's British! Well, she has a British accent and way of speaking. She was created as a housemaid for an upper-class family, with some medical programming for a sickly family member. After gaining sentience, she quickly returned to this family, who just as quickly rejected her, still fearing for their lives despite her free will. She wandered London for a while before finding Overwatch and ultimately joining to help stop the Crisis. But that's enough lore for now. (It said "fact" but I just lore-dropped XD)

F/O February in the Midst of May ও
Music;
Songs that remind me of my favorite characters!
AN ~ Look at me actually posting something ahahahaha
TFP Optimus Prime
Superhero by Simon Curtis
There isn’t a specific line of lyrics that reminds me of him, I just remember being obsessed with this AMV when I was in middle school and it’s literally the only thing I can think about whenever I hear this song.
When You’re Gone by Shawn Mendes
Hold on,
I don’t wanna know what it’s like when you’re gone
I don’t wanna move on
I don’t wanna know what it’s like when you’re gone for good
OP has been a great source of comfort for me ever since I was a kid. He was my childhood hero. Honestly I’m way too emotionally attached to him and I can’t even imagine ever letting go of him.
Angeal Hewley [ Crisis Core: FFVII ]
Laughter Lines by Bastille
“I’ll see you in the future when we’re older,
and we are full of stories to be told
Cross my heart and hope to die
I’ll see you with your laughter lines”
My self-insert OC for Crisis Core was one of Angeal’s childhood friends. She moved away from their village while they were still kids. Before she left, she promised to find him when they’d grown up and achieved their dreams, and they would never be separated again.
He did die and I will never get over it.
Before You Go by Lewis Capaldi
So, before you go
Was there something I could have said
to make your heart beat better?
If only I’d have known you had a storm to weather
Was there something I could have said
to make it all stop hurting?
It kills me how your mind can make you feel so worthless
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I’m so pathetically empathetic. My heart shattered when I found out what he thought about himself, especially since I held him in such high regard.
He made a stupid vow to become a SOLDIER and protect humanity from any and all monsters that may threaten their safety. That vow remained even after he’d discovered the circumstances of his birth and the abilities he gained as a result. He didn’t feel worthy of the honor and dignity he’d worked so hard to maintain, because he was just another monster and the world would be much better off without him.
I guess I feel like things might have turned out differently if he just had someone to talk to about the way he was feeling? Someone to keep him grounded, to tell him how worthy he really was and maybe keep him from doing something stupid. I would have sat with him for hours if he needed me to.
Ignis Scientia [ FFXV ]
Saturn by Sleeping At Last
With shortness of breath, you explained the infinite
How rare and beautiful it is to even exist
I couldn’t help but ask you to say it all again
I tried to write it down, but I could never find a pen
I’d give anything to hear you say it one more time
That the universe was made just to be seen by my eyes
Ignis is very knowledgeable about a lot of things, and I’ve always loved stargazing. It’s one of my favorite things to imagine when it comes to my F/Os.
I know absolutely nothing about astrology, so just like to watch the stars, so I like to think that he’d explain all sorts of things while we stare up at the sky together.
Neon Lights by Pim Stones
I’m gonna love you with all I’ve got
Even if it kills me, you’re the one that I want
The world, baby, is scary, I know
So close your eyes, hold me tight, and don’t let go
I actually discovered this song through this edit I found on Instagram. I’m a huge Ignoct shipper and it just tugged all my heartstrings okay?
Anyway, I think this song fits Ignis perfectly. He’s such a dedicated and dutiful retainer, willing to risk life and limb for his king, and I love him for that.
IDW Deadlock / Drift
Close To You by Dayglow
There’s something on my chest I wish I would have said
I think it over and it might be true,
I’m only overthinking when I’m close to you
I discovered this song around the same time I was actively obsessing over Deadlock (specifically).
It’s just me trying to get his attention because I know damn well he wouldn’t give me the time of day.
Ontario Gothic by Foxes in Fiction
And I could see who I should be
Through a past that casts it’s shadow over me
No particular reason for this one aside from these two lines. The song really just gives me MTMTE Drift vibes.
Noctis Lucis Caelum [ FFXV ]
Circles by Eden
All we are is a light into the darkness
And all we are is time that’s counting down
And all we are is falling through the spaces in between
Endless flight, we’re falling to our knees
Yeah, I’m still very pissed off at the gods about Noctis’s role in the whole ‘saving Eos’ thing.
Imagine having a child and immediately being told he wouldn’t live past the age of 20 because he was going to be a savior and die fulfilling a fate that was predetermined. Imagine being the child.
I Lived by OneRepublic
Hope when the moment comes, you’ll say:
“I did it all
I owned every second that this world could give
Saw so many places, the things that I did
With every broken bone, I swear I lived”
He died before he should have, but I’m glad he was able to make lots of good memories with the people that mattered to him most before he did.
Sephiroth [ Crisis Core: FFVII ]
Reprieve by Capstan
Am I scared?
I’m f-ing terrified
These thoughts eat me alive from the inside
Also found discovered the song through an edit, this one is definitely one of my favorites.
Similarly to Angeal, I think Sephiroth had a lot going on in his mind before his fall from ‘grace’.
Darkside by Alan Walker
Don’t wait for truth to come and blind us
Let’s just believe the lies
Believe it, I see it, I know that you can feel it
No secrets worth keeping, so fool me like I’m dreaming
My oc was also a victim of the lies that led Angeal to his death and Sephiroth to madness. She lost both of her childhood best friends, one of which was her husband, and received no explanation as to why. The company she worked for was responsible for all three events; if she were to abandon her position, she’d likely join Sephiroth in his quest to destroy the world.
As a scientist, her knowledge of the planet would be invaluable to him. She’d assist in anything he needed, not because she shared his desire to destroy Gaia, but because they were friends. He was the last thing she cared about by then.
AOE Optimus Prime
Lovely by Lauren Babic, Seraphim
Thought I found a way out, but you never go away
Something’s on my mind, always in my headspace
Oh, I hope someday I’ll make it out of here
Even if it takes all night or a hundred years
Man’s been fighting the same war for YEARS, and the guy on the other side just keeps coming back.
He’s tired of fighting and just wants to go back home.
Silence by Marshmello, Khalid
I’d rather be a lover than a fighter,
‘cause all my life I’ve been fighting
I found peace in your violence
Can’t tell me there’s no point in trying
I’m at one, and I’ve been quiet for too long
Same reasons as those listed above
He wanted to leave Earth because of everything that happened, honestly, how could you blame him?

Since that amv I made, been thinking about Doc and O’Malley in season 16 a lot. Some canonical, some speculation.
He felt really bad about siding with the Blues and Reds
He still wanted to be part of the reds and blues. He tried to fit in with the group by joining in on the teasing but Grif shut him down immediately
He pushed Grif out of the way to save him
He tolerated Grif’s ridiculous pizza mission to try to make up for the betrayal despite every ounce of his being screaming he could be making the universe a better place with the time gun
According to Huggins, O’Malley only came out when Grif was asleep. This was likely to try to keep things on as good of terms as possible (O’Malley is self-proclaimed “evil”, which does not exactly inspire trust. He likely intentionally stayed in because Doc wanted so badly to patch things up his way)
Doc didn’t even get mad at Grif— nor did O’Malley front— when Grif started shooting at him because of the vegan pizza. They were trying SO HARD to keep things civil. Keep in mind they’ve also had a rocky relationship with Grif since Blood Gulch.
The one-sided attempt at a heart-to-heart. That story about Deke and why he became a medic hits so hard! I’m so glad they fleshed out his character even that little bit
They finally couldn’t do it anymore. Grif fell asleep when they were trying to share a heartfelt moment. That was the final straw. They’d made up their mind. O’Malley’s turn to do things his way. Grif offered an olive branch the next morning but it was too little too late. While Doc appreciated the sentiment, he and O’Malley already had settled on a different plan.
They took the time gun: either Doc took it and then shifted to O’Malley, it had been O’Malley pretending to be Doc since the beginning of the scene, or they both took it (some kind of co-fronting situation) and then O’Malley took the reins. Personally I headcanon the last one.
O’Malley left Grif in the 6th century. When I first watched the season I thought it was horrible, why would he do that? Grif has no known way back in that moment, no way to call for help. But now I can see it from O’Malley’s perspective. Doc was abandoned, left behind, a dozen times by Grif and the others. How does it feel to be on the other end of that? It wasn’t cruelty for the sake of evil or cruelty. It was have-a-taste-of-your-own-medicine revenge.
O’Malley joined Chrovos. We’re not shown why exactly, but Donut says, “What are you doing here?” and O’Malley responds, “Same thing as you, my brother. Now you’d better not keep Him waiting.” Two things from this. 1) “same thing as you”, Chrovos promised Donut that if he helped him (I always viewed Chrovos as genderfluid. Correct me if they’re actually a transwoman, not trying to misgender here) then his friends would be nice to him. So it could be that Chrovos promised the same thing to Doc. But there’s something Doc may care about a bit more. Someone. Deke. I imagine once he got the time gun, he went to try to save Deke. But like Sarge, he just couldn’t change things. But “God” called out to him and told him he could make it happen. But first, O’Malley needed to help him. He likely did the same emotional manipulation bullshit as he did with Donut. Probably didn’t need to do as much, O’Malley was already feeling pretty negative about the reds and blues. 2) Again he said “Him” with emphasis, like, capital H emphasis. O’Malley doesn’t know this is Chrovos with their own agenda. To him, this is “God”, the epitome of goodness in so many religions. He’s not intentionally on the side of “evil”. Maybe he doesn’t really believe that and is just pretending to because of Donut, but regardless he knows this is a powerful entity. I believe he had some skepticism, but thought it might really be “God”. And that “might” was enough to put his faith in him. For Deke. For himself. To do something and make a big difference for once. This time he wasn’t a pawn, an extra, he was a hero! (oops sike)
O’Malley saw Donut about to destroy the one who promised to save Deke. He couldn’t allow that.
“I don’t want to hurt you!” Donut said. O’Malley laughed at this. Everyone hurts him, what a blatant lie! Sure, Doc and Donut lived together for a while, but do you really think that was at the front of his mind? Even if he did remember, supposed betrayals hurt so much more from the people you’re close to. Donut hadn’t noticed Doc went missing on Chorus and even said as much to his face. Even if he wasn’t intentionally mean he was just like all the others. And now he was trying to take something so important away from him? Hell no, sir. O’Malley was going to stand up for what he believed to be the right course of action.
Yes, O’Malley tricked Donut, claiming to be Doc, but honestly it didn’t feel like a dirty move, just clever.
In the end, O’Malley said, “well played.” Not “curse you” or a swear, just a nod of respect for Donut. He didn’t hate Donut. He had just been standing in his way.
Also next season Doc says their fight was a lot of fun, further solidifying my idea that O’Malley and Doc were both on board with the plan and O’Malley wasn’t acting “against” Doc.
This is a Doc / O’Malley sympathization zone. Not sure how many of my bullet points were intended by the writer, but this is the view I tried to portray in the amv. (link below if you haven’t watched it yet— the beginning is a bit slow but I think it still works pretty well. The fighting in the second half combined with the beat and lyrics? So satisfying)

StackedNatural Day 179: 3x16, 8x23
StackedNatural Masterpost: [x]
May 15, 2022
3x16: No Rest For The Wicked
Written by: Eric Kripke
Directed by: Kim Manners
Original air date: May 15, 2008
Plot Synopsis:
Dean's time is up and he has to pay the Devil his due. When Lilith resurfaces in New Harmony, Indiana terrorizing a family to no end Sam, Dean, and Bobby steal Ruby's knife and confront the mother of all demons in a battle to the death.
Features:
30 hours on the clock, what a demon does for fun, a socially awkward last day on Earth, killing the cop that pulls you over, Lilith’s child vessel, Holy Water sprinklers, Lilith impersonating Ruby, Dean being dragged to Hell.
My Thoughts:
It’s been forever since I’ve seen any of this episode not as part of an AMV so it was nice to see the end in context again. I had forgotten how much it really seems like they’re going to be able to save him with the structure of the episode.
Ruby’s manipulation is so good in retrospect - she wins no matter what Sam decides to do, because if he drinks the demon blood he’s hooked, and if he doesn’t he’ll think it’s his fault for not drinking the demon blood and then she can get him on his revenge mission.
It’s so fun the way Stacked has worked out for early season finales - we watched the season 5 finale two days ago, season four yesterday, season three today, and season two tomorrow. It’s very cool to follow the domino line backwards and see how cleanly it’s all put together.
Lilith is a great villain, genuinely monstrous and creepy. I love that she obviously doesn’t possess kids just because she feels like one - she knows that they’re the most effective way to torture the family around them, and a very effective shield against a lot of hunters.
The practical effects are absolutely brutal in the best way, I love the hellhounds so much (even though I had to watch half the episode on mute to keep my own dog from losing her mind).
Notable Lines:
“You're not gonna go to hell. I'm not gonna let you. I swear. Everything's gonna be okay.”
“You don't like being different. You hate the way Dean looks at you sometimes. Like you're some kind of sideshow freak.”
“Don't you see a pattern here? Dad's deal, my deal, now this? I mean every time one of us is up the creek the other is begging to sell their soul.”
“Family don’t end with blood, boy.”
Laura’s (completely subjective) Episode Rating: 9.5
IMdB Rating: 9.3
8x23: Sacrifice
Written by: Jeremy Carver
Directed by: Phil Sgriccia
Original air date: May 15, 2013
Plot Synopsis:
Sam and Dean capture Crowley to finish the trials and close the gates of Hell. Castiel and Metatron continue the trials to close the gates of Heaven. Sam is left with a huge decision.
Features:
Jody and Crowley’s blind date, the second heavenly trial, demonic handcuffs, the third demon trial, Sam going to confession, Dean and Cas’ little bar date, the live woobification of Crowley, the angels falling.
[Read More Cut]
My Thoughts:
This is a fun episode. I really love watching Crowley become human - of all the villains that become pathetic for the Winchesters, Crowley is the only one with a narrative justification that I really dig. I wish there had been a way for him to become fully human, it would have been really cool to watch him wrestle more with atoning for the things he did as a demon. Plus, Cas and Crowley would have become human at the same time, and that has a lot of love triangle-related purposes for me. The church is also a great set piece.
I love the bar scene with Dean and Cas. It’s filmed so intimately, and it’s such a moment of piece in an otherwise hectic and painful season. There’s a real understanding of what Cas is doing and what it’s going to cost them both. Also we get to see Dean be reminded that gay people exist and have to pause and let his brain reboot.
It can’t be stressed enough that the structure of the spell that kicks the angels out of Heaven strongly implies that Cas is in love with Dean (which we now know to be true). The heart of a nephilim, which is the product of love between a human and an angel. Cupids bow, the angelic creature that sparks love in humans. Cas’ grace, the grace of an angel in love with a human.
Notable Lines:
“Would you say that you're looking for a partner in crime, or someone who's into nurse role-play and light domination?” “Brother, it's 10:00 a.m. on a Tuesday.”
“Don't we all -- you, me -- we deserve to be loved. I deserve to be loved! I just want to be loved.”
“Earlier, when you were confessing back there...what did you say? I only ask because, given my history...it raises the question... Where do I start...to even look for forgiveness?”
“You finish this trial, you’re dead, Sam.” “So?”
“You want to know what I confessed in there? What my greatest sin was? It was how many times I let you down.”
Laura’s (completely subjective) Episode Rating: 9.4
IMdB Rating: 9.3
In Conclusion: Very cool to see the beginning of Sam’s corruption arc followed immediately by his blood purifying a demon.

Of T-Shirts and Monsoons
Rating: T for language
Summary: In which Sasuke proposes to a fuming Sakura in a cave in the middle of Rain.
Word Count: 2,243
A/N: Hello everyone! It’s been about seven years since I last wrote for this fandom (or wrote creatively at all, really). This random idea popped into my head while I was watching old SasuSaku AMVs, and I just thought I’d go for it! I have a few ideas for longer SasuSaku fics, so I wanted to test out a few drabbles/oneshots to shake off some of the rust since it’s been a while. Let me know what you think! Also feel free to send prompts my way. This was done in about an hour, but I hope you enjoy~
Cross posted on Ao3 and Fanfiction.net
___________________________________
Sakura was fuming as she stomped into the cave, ignoring Sasuke’s wary gaze as she slung her pack to the ground with enough force to create fine cracks in the stone beneath it. She stripped out of her blood-and-rain soaked jonin vest and tossed it equally as haphazardly to the side, not sparing a glance to where it landed with a decided thwack. Sasuke rubbed the bridge of his nose and made quick work of using a small katon to set a small fire in the back of the cave. Typically, it wouldn’t be worth the risk of attracting unwanted attention, but he figured the benefits of not having to deal with an angry and cold Sakura were decidedly worth dispatching any rogues that were foolish enough to have followed them. Not that he and Sakura had left any of the nin in a state to pursue them, he thought with a smirk.
“Stupid Rain with it’s stupid freak monsoons and stupid rogue nin who ambush anything that fucking moves through their ‘territory.’ Sure, take out the fact that you’re bored in a time of peace out on civilians who can’t fight back.”
The clang of Sakura’s weapons pouch against the cave wall punctuated her impatience with the recent trend of rogue bands staking claim to smaller civilian towns and merchant paths. They’d managed to defend three different merchant caravans and liberated two villages from rogues in the past month and a half alone. She didn’t mind helping the civilians, of course, but why couldn’t these rogues get it through their skulls that this was peace time? She just wanted a little peace, dammit!
Sasuke crouched down next to his own pack to dig out a spare change of clothes. After just over a year and a half of traveling together, he was more than used to Sakura’s flinty temper and knew she would tire herself out soon. Best to keep out of it.
Sakura dropped to the ground to hunt for a clean shirt of her own. She pulled out shirt after shirt, noting with growing frustration that each was either covered in blood, lacerations, or sand. If she ever saw another grain of sand, it would be far too soon. A growl tore from the back of her throat.
“Stupid Suna with it’s stupid sand. Why the hell can’t some other village have poison experts so I don’t have to trudge through the damned desert just to collaborate on our new Inter-Village Poison Center? Who the fuck even came up with that idea?” Sasuke sent her a pointed look, knowing full well that she had fully supported Shizune’s initiative, which Sakura missed. “And why the hell can’t an epidemic break out in, I don’t know, the Land of Tea and not the middle of fucking Rain? At least then-”
Sakura nearly choked when she glanced up  just in time to see Sasuke pull off his rain-soaked shirt and wring it out. No matter how long they spent together or how intimate they became, Sakura’s mind never failed to short-circuit at the sight of Sasuke’s bare skin. It didn’t matter where or how much - one glimpse, and her mind checked out. Although he would never express it outright, Sakura surmised that Sasuke knew exactly what his body did to her and used it to his advantage - say, when he was trying to distract her from a particularly troublesome conversation or train of thought.
It worked more often then she cared to admit.
Her sharp eyes caught the way Sasuke shifted his weight away from his left side as he moved to pull on a fresh shirt - crisp black with the Uchiha fan emblazoned proudly on the back. After a brief moment admiring his figure before it was hidden by the fabric, Sakura frowned at the inflammation beginning to flare up around his ankle. She cleared her throat and motioned for him to come over, tirade momentarily forgotten. Kami knows Sasuke would never admit that he had lost his footing for a moment during their earlier confrontation, unused to fighting on branches that had been rotted through from near-constant rain, and actually ask her to heal him. He’d become much more willing to allow her to heal him after a particularly difficult fight, but it was rare for him to outright ask for her assistance. She usually offered before he needed to.
She met his withering look with a hard gaze of her own.
“You,” she jabbed a finger in his direction, and he raised a brow, “stop being a stubborn ass and sit.” She motioned to the spot next to her with a touch more force than necessary. Sasuke didn’t budge and continued to ruffle through his pack. Sakura’s eyes narrowed.
“Sasuke-kun, --”
With a sigh, Sasuke fixed Sakura with a stern look and tossed her one of his extra shirts before coming to sit next to her. Laying a hand on Sakura’s shoulder, he formed the tiger seal to send a small katon over her skin to dry off the remnants of water that clung to her skin and hair. His jaw tightened at the blue-purple tint her lips had begun to take in the chill. A smile worked its way onto Sakura’s face when she realized the telltale signs of concern in his posture as he hovered near her.
“Change, Sakura. Then heal.”
His gaze dropped pointedly below her chin, and Sakura’s cheeks heated as she followed his eyes and realized her state of undress. Over the course of her rant, she had stripped down to her chest bindings and fitted shorts. Although Sasuke had seen her in far less, embarrassment washed through her as she scrambled to unfold the shirt he had tossed to her.
Her demeanor shifted when she went to slip it on. Sasuke glanced over when he felt Sakura stiffen at his side, brow furrowing when he noted the pensive look on Sakura’s features. Her eyes, previously a battle-worn seafoam green, took on a deeper, more thoughtful jade. She snagged her lip between her teeth, and Sasuke glanced down to see her fingers gently tracing the outline of the Uchiha fan printed on the back of the shirt.
Spine going rigid, Sasuke wracked his brain for the other instances Sakura had borrowed clothes from his pack - a shirt here, a poncho there. Her hands-on approach to fighting combined with the blood, bile, and poison that came with being a medic meant that her clothes tended to ruin more quickly than his. The sight of her rummaging through his pack for a spare change of clothes was a familiar one. What he hadn’t noticed, however, was that Sakura was always careful to select one of the few articles of clothing he carried that didn’t carry his clan’s symbol. He kept a few basics on hand just in case they needed to be incognito through a town that was still hostile towards the Leaf.
His mind jumped to the easiest explanation he could think of for her hesitation: she was ashamed. Not that he blamed her for wanting to distance herself from his clan’s marred legacy, but the very thought lit a fire in his veins that had him pulling away from her. Anger and bitterness combined with a pang of disappointment that he didn’t particularly want to address.
Sakura started, broken from her thoughts as she took note of Sasuke’s sudden change in demeanor. It was a testament to the time she had spent becoming attuned to the small giveaways of Sasuke’s emotions that she pieced two-and-two together. His flinty eyes shifted between the shirt in her hands and the cave wall as he refused to look at her.
With another quiet smile, Sakura carefully folded the shirt, laid it on top of her pack, and moved to stand next to Sasuke. She could feel some of the tension leave him when her shoulder brushed his, but his eyes remained stony.
“Sasuke-kun.” She waited for a moment before his gaze flickered down to hers, hoping that the softness in her own gaze would convey whatever she wasn’t able to in words. She placed a gentle hand on his bicep, hoping to ground him as she mulled over her words. Talking about the Uchiha Clan with Sasuke took a delicate touch, a touch she had learned after a short but explosive period of trial and error.
“Sasuke-kun, your clan’s history has nothing to do with why I won’t wear the Uchiha fan. Your legacy is a part of you, and I love you. All of you. Even the darkest parts that you don’t think love can reach. You know I’m damn persistent, and if I can wait this long to get you to accept that I love you, then I can wait as long as you need me to before you accept that that includes everything about you.”
She took a deep breath, averting her own eyes now that he had fixed her with an unreadable gaze of his own.
“Even if you won’t outright admit it, I know that your clan is precious to you. I’ve watched you carve the clan’s symbol into your kunai every time you replenish your stock. And I’m not an Uchiha, Sasuke-kun, so wearing the clan’s symbol - even casually like this, just feels like I’m not giving it the honor it deserves.”
Silence. Sakura was used to silence from Sasuke, and had learned how to interpret his different silences. There were the more distraught, brooding ones that required a bright, calming touch and the occasional pouty silence after she had smiled just a touch too openly at a flirty cashier; the explosive silences that she usually drew him into a spar during to release some energy and the frustrated, yet concerned silence when he thought she was too reckless in a battle.
This seemed to be one of his thoughtful silences - one that she didn’t feel she should interrupt. Noting with no small amount of satisfaction that most of the rigidity had melted away from his body, Sakura moved to turn back towards her pack.
“As for clothes, I’m sure I can put together something for tonight, so don’t worry about me. I’m pretty sure there’s a little merchant town not to far from here that we can stop by tomorrow to stock up on some new -”
Sakura swallowed her words as a cool hand enclosed her wrist and tugged her back. Her eyes widened when she found herself pressed to Sasuke’s chest with his arms wrapped tightly around her back. While Sakura was no stranger to small acts of affection from Sasuke - a forehead poke here and a sleepy  arm around her waist there - it was incredibly rare for him to initiate a hug. In fact, she was pretty sure she could count the number of times he had hugged her on one hand.
“Sa-Sasuke-kun?”
He huffed into her hair, something between a laugh or a sigh - she couldn’t quite tell. So she simply decided to remain quiet, tracing her fingertips along his back as she waited for him to voice his thoughts. She swore Sasuke Uchiha was going to be the death of her when he spoke again and she quite literally choked.
“Marry me.”
The words were so quiet that Sakura nearly convinced herself that they were a figment of her imagination. A statement, not a request. She pulled back slightly, wide eyes meeting Sasuke’s steady gaze.
“W-What?”
Sakura winced as soon as she asked the question, knowing Sasuke loathed repeating himself (though it was a well-kept secret that Sasuke didn’t mind repeating himself for her and her alone). But surely he couldn’t hold it against her given the situation. He simply sighed at her request, arching a brow that said he knew that she had clearly heard him yet repeated himself anyways.
“Marry me and wear the damn shirt, Sakura.”
When she continued to stand in front of him with nothing more than a shocked stare, Sasuke huffed again and half-rolled his eyes in a rare display of amusement. Tonight seemed to be a night for rare occasions, it seemed.
Sidestepping Sakura’s frozen form, he retrieved his spare shirt from its place on Sakura’s pack, unfolded it, and gently worked it over her head. A warm glow replaced the earlier fire in his veins as Sakura came to and allowed her arms to be guided into the shirt’s sleeves.
Sasuke spent a minute admiring the fan on her back, pride burning in his chest at the thought of Sakura as the Uchiha matriarch. A small part of him idly wondered if his mother would be pleased to see her position passed on to Sakura. He liked to think she would.
Sakura turned towards him, feeling a tug in her chest at the vulnerability in Sasuke’s expression. She wasn’t sure what kind of proposal she had expected from Sasuke - hell, she hadn’t even been certain she should expect one at all. At least, not for a while. She certainly hadn’t imagined one of the happiest moments of her life to come in the middle of a freezing cave in Rain after treating a minor epidemic, getting ambushed by a plucky squad of overambitious rogue nin, and nearly drowning in a monsoon.
So yes, she hadn’t expected a proposal to come in this type of situation, but she had known her answer to this question for nearly a decade.
“Yes.”

It’s the dawn of the final day! Digital zine releases TOMORROW, October 25th (International ShinSato Day) and international orders will also close that day. We only have ONE BOOK and FIVE MERCH PACKS left! Get yours before they’re gone!
Here are some final words from our mods~

Kiri
Only one day left until the OTP day!
Who would have thought that after watching DP for the first time 14 years ago, I’d be organizing a zine about two of its characters in 2020?
Ever since I started liking ShinSato, making such a project about them has always been on the back of my mind so actually holding the printed product (and beautiful merch!) in my hands is like a wish come true!
It’s been an honor for me to be a mod for this project! I am really proud of the final product and grateful to all the participants for their enthusiasm regarding this anthology. We got so many amazing works and seeing several people come together to celebrate Shinji and Satoshi has been heartwarming! It also reminded me of why I like the characters so much, and it made me feel nostalgic.
Last but not least, I want to thank @commanderpigg, my co organizer, for her outstanding work during all this project. Watching one of her AMVs about the ship back in the day after DP ended is what inspired me and pushed me to interact with her and other shippers when I thought there wasn’t anyone anymore to talk about them with. I made lots of memories thanks to that!
I hope everyone enjoys the anthology! Thanks for your support!

Hi y’all.
I don't know how I can eloquently express my gratitude to this fandom. Throughout the entire process, the contributors and supporters have been so kind and helpful. I can't think of a better community to work with.
On a more personal note, this year has been quite rough on me, as I'm sure it has been for most people. This project has helped me keep going and reinvigorate my creativity and motivation. As tired as I am, this has been the highlight of my year. I can't wait for people to experience this project!

Part 95 Alignment May Vary: End of All Things
Here we are. I’ve been putting this off for a while, but this will be my final two-part post in the AMV campaign. This is the post that describes the end of our game, which happened on January 15th, 2021, over 4 years from our first campaign. It was an emotional moment for us all. I remember writing the notes the day before the session and then realizing I was sobbing openly as I wrote the campaign’s potential final lines. I thought, whew, well at least I’m getting it out of my system early. But the 4 hour session ended up being full of tears for us all, and once one of us started crying, the whole group couldn’t stop. It is impossibly hard to say goodbye to characters that you’ve essentially been the parents of, the creators of. And in writing this post, I’m doing it all over again.
This post was originally one long post, but I decided to break it into two pieces for ease of reading. If you’re reading this post after having read all 94 other posts, bless your heart. But regardless of how you arrived here, I’m glad you are here with us at the end of all things.
Our session begins right where the last one ended, at the foot of the Jarlberg mountain, at the summit of which Abenthy waits in the old cave of the stone giant Kirazov, for his ritual to complete and the plane of chaos merge with the material plane.
The PCs were saved in the final moments of the grand battle between the armies by Roger Krisp on board the renamed Anope intergalactic vessel, and a fleet of Githyanki who followed him to this planet to save the reality of those who had once aided them.
There is little time for reunion. Roger Krisp gives the PCs the last of the Surveyor’s remaining revitalization injection, which essentially long rests them all. They manage to save one: Imoaza took no damage during her stealth assassination in the last battle. Sasha, one of Aldric’s goblin children (his spunky daughter), has a brief and emotional greeting with the group. Time differentials in space travel (as well as speedy Goblin maturation) means she is an adult now, and she tells them that her father would be proud of them, and shows them that everyone on Anope has joined the Green Company to honor him. In death, he achieved what he had sought in life, the revival of his old Company.
(Cue our first round of tears).
Most surprising is the emergence of the The Old Surveyor from the ship. This is the old man from the Air Planet, who had disobeyed the orders of Primus centuries ago, and whose disobedience led to the creation of the “Progenitor Surveyor,” the one who created humanity and whom Imoaza’s ancestors worshipped long ago. He disembarks from the ship as well, now, and tells them that most will not be able to survive the “space beyond space” where Abenthy has fled to, so as to not be interrupted in his summoning of the Chaos Plane. He tells them that only Blackrazor can let them enter that space and allow them to do battle.
“He is no longer just Abenthy,” The Old Surveyor tells them. “He is a merging of three powers, three distinct lines of fate and alignment. Lawful, Evil, and Neutrality have all blended inside of that being. It carries the power of law, the knowledge of magic and the planes, and the determination of destiny.”
“We have the numbers,” Roger Krisp chimes in. ”It’s time to storm this mountain and end this!”
“Only these three can enter. Anyone else, anything else, would be torn assunder by trying to survive in that limbo. Blackrazor will keep Imoaza safe, the Surveyor’s Stone will keep Carrick safe, and Milosh's chest plate will keep him safe as it carries the true essence of Primus within it, the heartbeat of a god. Anyone else would be torn apart by what waits beyond. The fate of this plane of existence must be left in the hands of these three. Well, and one more, if you will grant him your protection.”
Out of the Surveyor's sleeve comes the Chi Chu, the little pet turned familiar that Imoaza hasn’t seen since entering the Abyssal plane ages ago. it flits over to Imoaza. They hear a "Chiiiii?" as if asking, you won't leave me behind this time, right?
(The return of a favored animal mascot? Cue our second round of tears).
With this, the group begins the ascent, though Carrick stays behind a moment to ask the Surveyor what will become of the Surveyors (of which Carrick and the old man are both technically the last) once Abenthy is defeated and Primus and Chaos’ soul erased in the process. The Surveyor says that for himself, it will be time to rest at last, and return to Primus’ side, even in oblivion. But for Carrick it will mean a different kind of freedom. Freedom to choose his own destiny.

"This is Where I First Learned to Hate”
As the group climbs the mountain, I remind them of the prophecy, to center us in on what this final session will cover. Friezurazov is the throne of power in the prophecy, a leyline in the world where reality can be weakened. It radiates power, and this power is what originally drew the Stone Giant Kirazov to the land, to make the Jarlberg (the seat of that psychic radiation) his lair. Now Abenthy has taken that seat back and from there plans the end of the world.
The party have to enter and pursue him, and Blackrazor Alpha, which Imoaza carries, is needed to cut through into that limbo space where the fight will occur. Once they face Abenthy, they will also face his Blackrazor, the one that is corrupt and filled with all the powers of chaos. But even destorying the sword cannot kill that which Abenthy has become. They can only weaken him enough to call upon another power to destroy him.
That power is the Source, Primus’ power which resides along with Primus’ soul inside Milosh's chest plate. Before this power is used, to truly win this fight, Carrick must use the Surveyor’s Stone to draw Primus' soul forth and Imoaza must weave that soul into one of them to become the shield in the prophecy, which is a word meaning sacrifice in the old languages.
Destroy both the shield (imbued with Primus’ soul) and Abenthy’s body (imbued with Chaos’ soul), and they will finally win and achieve the destruction of the abyssal plane forever, for it cannot be reborn if balance (Primus) is also gone. They were birthed of the same universe. This is all the true meaning of the prophecy of the Three.
Is that a mouthful? A mindful, maybe? Ah, but there is more! For another prophecy was given, this one specifically to Imoaza, and it concerns her fate.
As the group summits the mountain and enters the Stone Giants cave, I remind Imoaza of her prophecy. She got this from the ice tribe shaman, who used a Taroka deck to do her reading. She thinks back and remembers it as if it were happening again...
The first card she drew was the Collector and showed a pursed lip noble placing coins into a bag. “This is a decision made in your past,” the Shaman says. “The Collector represents a debt you must someday pay, and you have stolen from time itself. Time will have its due, in due time.”
Then he holds up a hand of cards and tells her to draw two, this time. She draws, and reveals first a cocky looking man gripping a sheathed blade with one hand and tossing a cloak over his shoulder with the other. Then a naked man, engulfed in flame and surrounded by a circle of swords, his head thrown back in either ecstasy or pain. The Shaman closes his eyes. “These cards represent a choice you will make. For you, the choice will be between two lives: the Rogue and the Tyrant. You shall choose one. The one chosen shall be saved, given a second chance. Those unchosen shall be lost forever, a sacrifice.”
The final card Imoaza draws depicts a skull inside a jar. It is labeled the Artifact. “The last card shows a bond, a bond embedded deep in your soul. All that you do is tied to this bond. And for you, that bond is to an item of power. When that artifact meets its destiny, only then shall you be free to pursue your own.”
Finally, the Shaman tells her that the power she wields, to see the Weave, is not one that is simply developed. It is a gift from Mystra, the goddess of the weave… some say she is the Weave itself. He tells her that the gift comes with responsibility and purpose. She does not need a teacher: the Weave itself will guide her to where she needs to be, when she needs to be there.
While Imoaza has been having this remembrance, they have completed the climb to Kirazov's old chamber, where they see the bones of the stone giant, where Abenthy struck him down long ago. There is a rumbling crack in the cave floor, like a rip in space time. They put Blackrazor in and split it open and jump into the Abyss to meet Abenthy.
Where they land is not where they expected. Things are quiet. There is the sound of lapping water and sea gulls. They are in an abandoned city, they see, a city of docks and ships, built on the edge of the ocean and looking out over its green-blue expanse. It is a peaceful, sunny day. And though the city seems deserted, they are not alone here. One figure stands near the docks, a beautiful man who radiates celestial power.
Abenthy stands over a bloodstain on the stone ground. He tells them “This is where I first learned to hate. This is where I was taught that people could not be trusted to govern themselves justly. It is also where I first learned failure.”
They have ended up, of course, at Ottoman’s Docks, abandoned as Abenthy sent his Tarasque there several weeks ago to empty the city. Abenthy refers here to one of his defining character moments, when he witnessed a child be put to death for stealing and was helpless to do anything about it.
(Cue, maybe not tears, but certainly chills from Milosh’s player, who used to play Abenthy).
The group tries to reason with Abenthy, tell him that what he has done since that time has only led to more evil and destruction, but it is not just Abenthy they speak with here. It is Nazragul, Karina, and Abenthy smashed into one... and Nazragul seems to be the dominant personality, though it is Abenthy’s form he controls.
Abenthy (as pushed to madness by Nazragul) says that crashing Chaos into this world will destroy both planes and usher in a new beginning for everyone. Carrick in particular derides him for this, saying that ending everything to start over is the ultimate act of cowardice. He also says it will not work: life by its nature is flawed. That is its beauty.
No, Abenthy says. This time it will not be flawed. This time he will be there to show life the proper way. As he will show them now.
He begins summoning chaos, they see it coming up into Ottoman's docks, ripping through the docks as the translucent purple tentacles that have plagued them before. Wings erupt from Abenthy’s back, one black and one white. Black Razor warps into the battlefield, gives a crass greeting to Imoaza and taunts her for not wielding him when she had the chance (to which she shows him Blackrazor Alpha and prepares to fight back). Finally, three small crystals rise into the air, floating around Abenthy. They are old surveyor stones! The last remaining, aside from Carricks. They glow with power, and from the edges of the docks, two shadowy monsters approach to aid Abenthy in this fight.
Roll initiative!

“I Will Show You”
As far as music goes, if you want to play something while reading this, I use Kefka’s theme from FFVI, Zeromous’ theme from FFIV, and the Final Lavos theme (this one) from Chrono Trigger. They are appropriate choices. A lot of this battle, and in fact the entire set up, has been inspired by both Chrono Trigger and FFVI in particular, which I think had some of the best final set ups of any JRPG ever. In FFVI Kefka wins and the party has to regather allies to face him like they do here. Chrono Trigger’s final battle takes place in time and space, which so does mine. And finally, there is the crystals that are so prevalent in early FF games (and sorely missed in more modern entries). They come into play in my design as well.
To get down to business... so I design Abenthy as a modified Solar from the Monster Manual, with some different spells that let him bring the Abyssal tentacles onto the battlefield (this is stuff like Evard’s tentacles, Shadows of Moil, Arms of Hadar) and which he can use as legendary actions in addition to a normal action. Note that the Solar is very deadly on his own, especially with his longbow:
Slaying Longbow. Ranged Weapon Attack: +13 to hit, range 120/600 ft., one target. Hit: 15 (2d8 + 6) piercing damage plus 27 (6d8) radiant damage. If the target is a creature that has 190 hit points or fewer, it must succeed on a DC 15 Constitution saving throw or die.
Holy instant kills batman. Especially with the Solar’s ability to teleport and fly, he can keep some massive distance between himself and the PCs and rain down destruction with that bow. That said, Abenthy does not start out combat using this deadly combo. Early on, he prefers to use his tentacles to suck the life from the PCs and use magic blasts to try to weaken them.
Abenthy also has four crystals floating around him, which serve to grant him different powers and which really should be targeted first in order to weaken him enough to fight. One crystal heals him every turn. Another two controls (one each) the shadowy monsters (which are themselves monsters from Tasha’s guide, beefed up versions of the Shadowspawn (pg 114, Tasha’s). This means the action economy is more balanced between the players and Abenthy, slightly skewed in his favor because of the legendary actions and the constant battlefield effects of the tentacles. Finally, the last crystal can block spells of up to 4th level, which helps mitigate Imoaza’s easy damage dealing cantrips (she is deadly with her Eldritch blasts).
Finally, there is Abenthy’s Blackrazor, which moves on its own and attacks with the same basic stats as a Solar’s Greatsword:
Greatsword. Melee Weapon Attack: +15 to hit, reaah 5 ft. , one. target. Hit: 22 (4d6 + 8) slashing damage plus 27 (6d8) radiant damage.
Sooo shit tons of damage. Blackrazor is also indestructible and invulnerable, except for one caveat... which we’ll get to later.
The final gimmick of this fight is that each round, as Abenthy takes damage, he changes the battlefield, taking the party through space and time to places that were of import to him, with his tentacles (representing the plane of Chaos) ripping these places to shreds as they fight. Basically, they are witnessing the destruction of their world as they fight, beginning with places that meant something to the players (if not necessarily these specific characters). It’s a way for me to meta-nod to our previous adventures, while also hitting us all where it hurts, right in the nostalgia feels. At the same time, it reveals more about Abenthy’s psyche and fall from grace.
So, below, I’m going to go through each place Abenthy takes them, and the general progression of combat events there (I won’t be getting action-by-action specific).
Tumblr media
Time and Space
The opening clashes take place at Ottoman’s docks, but quickly this falls away to reveal floating space, the limbo before combat begins in earnest. This lets the combatants get off some opening salvos, test each other’s strengths and powers, and then we really dive into things, as the battlefield shifts for the first time to another memorable place.
You hurtle through space towards the planet you recognize as your own, heading at the speed of a comet through the atmosphere, coming down towards the crater of some long ago crashed meteor, heading through the earth itself to come to rest in a gigantic cavern, the epicenter which is a forgotten Yuan Ti pyramid.
Abenthy says that this is the place where an entire people proved they did not have the foresight to handle the responsibilities of caring for a world. They only sought power. And it was granted to them. They used it to destroy themselves. This is the Yuan Ti he refers to, this is their fane, Imoaza’s ancestors in particular, who worshipped the Surveyor and ultimately killed him when they felt he was giving their world to the humans he had helped raise out of primitive apes. Imoaza was last here at the end of the Red Hand campaign and it is also where our current Carrick awoke inside a clone body more recently.
The fight progresses for a time, with Milosh focusing on the shadow spirits, Imoaza trying to deal with Blackrazor, sword against sword, and Carrick rushing to fight Abenthy directly. And eventually the battlefield changes again.
The world shifts and shatters around you and the first sign of the transition is the biting cold. You find yourself standing on the edge of a ruined village, floating on an icy glacier.
Abenthy says he has seen that they themselves dare to think themselves capable of judging others, referring to the ice village that Milosh destroyed. “You have eradicated an entire village out of anger. What I do, I do out of foresight, not anger.”
Carrick gets some critical hits in this round and the PCs begin to figure out that they need to be targeting the surveyor stones floating around Abenthy. Their strategy changes, and as it does, something seems to split inside of Abenthy... his confidence changes to something more like sorrow.
Your next destination smells of brine and your ears fill with the roar of the sea as you stand aboard a wrecked seaship. Fog emanates from all around the dilapidated vessel and you can see bits of debris from its hull floating in the choppy waters. One board has the name STORM painted across it.
“Here is where she learned sorrow,” Abenthy says, and they wonder who he refers to. “Where she learned that she could not save the world. Her friends died here. The one who helped kill them she later took as lover. She never told you that, did she? Karina didn’t tell many that story. But I know it. For I know Karina, better maybe than she knows even herself.”
One of the stones, one controlling one of the shadow demons, is destroyed this round, by Milosh, while Carrick distracts Abenthy. However, this sends Abenthy into a rage and he unleashes his Bow of Slaying on Carrick, nearly taking him out of the fight completely. Carrick has to pull back to heal, and the map changes again.
This place you all recognize, for you were here but recently. It is the inside of the volcano in which Haggemoth’s tomb resides. Lava fills its chambers now, except for one high precipice on which you all find yourselves facing Abenthy.
This area ends up being the most critical of their fight. Imoaza finally realizes that Blackrazor is indestructible, but has the thought that her version of it, Blackrazor Alpha, is the promise of all that the evil sword will become. And if it never existed... the sword Alpha actually finishes this thought for her, telling her that, yes, this is the only way. And so, with her action, Imoaza throws Blackrazor Alpha into the lava flow, destroying it forever.
This is a shockingly intense moment for the player. Once she starts crying, we all do. She explains it as a huge arc for Imoaza. Blackrazor Alpha was made in part from her Drosselgreymer, the weapon she stole from her people. It represented her desire for power, her class as a Hexblade. It was her Hexblade. To destroy it all now symbolizes her letting go of that pursuit of power. It also dooms her people to being a simpler folk, for the power of their hexblades is drawn from Blackrazor, and now that is forever destroyed. This also fulfills a piece of her personal prophecy: she has let go of the artifact, and freed her fate from it.
The more evil Blackrazor lets out a mighty scream, saying that its destruction is impossible, that time has already decided it exists. But the lava of Haggemoth’s lair was imbued with his magical energy in order to destroy artifacts. What’s more, with such a powerful artifact destroyed here, the sacrifice offered to the gods is complete. The balancing of Haggemoth’s soul, so long ago disrupted by Abenthy, is finally complete. Attonement is given to the dwarf. He appears briefly, thanks the party, and finally goes to rest in the halls of his ancestors.
However, though Blackrazor is destroyed, the fight goes on. Abenthy begins to spiral back towards his old self, remembering... and as he remembers...
The roar of lava is replaced by the roar of the sea, crashing against a sandy shore. Above you looms a great cliff, at the top of which can be seen a broken pagoda. Another roar sounds, a quake shudders the island, and the pagoda begins to split apart even more.
This is the Island of the Oracle. “Here,” Abenthy says, “is the sanctum of one who could have changed things. She saw. She knew. But she choose to send me on the quest. Because she knew what needed to happen.”
As they fight here, the island continues to fall apart. The Oracle is dying, her power being drawn from the world, for she received her power from the surveyor’s stones, and Abenthy has channeled the last of that energy into this fight.
In the fight, the stones are all but destroyed now by the PCs. The last one remaining under Abenthy’s control is the one that heals him, and Carrick makes a desperate gambit to snag it out of the air and flee from Abenthy with it, getting ready to destroy it at all costs.
You are in a cool, calm place. Books and shelves surround you, as does an aura of austerity. A shield depicting a woman’s profile, her head wrapped in a laurel crown, is set in a place of honor overlooking this large library.
“And this is where it happened. This is where I met my father. He thought he knew the way. He thought he could control me. But he was wrong. He was only a lesser evil. He had failed so long ago, he had become irrelevant. I ignored him and he met his fate at the hands of the demons he fought with over power.”
Abenthy’s voice rings through the halls of the Sisters of Celaenos. And then suddenly a new voice takes over. It speaks in an arcane tongue and tentacles erupt all over the battlefield.
“Enough of this whining and melancholic tripe,” the cruel voice of Nazragul speaks, though it comes from Abenthy’s body. “I have indulged you all long enough. Now it is time to end this.”
The battle changes drastically at this point. The tentacles snatch at the party, trying to tie them to the ground, while Abenthy/Nazragul flies high into the air, far beyond their reach, and begins raining magic down on them. His blasts destroy the final crystal, but he doesn’t seem to care. He is raining destruction on the party, seeking to end them before they have a chance to recover.
Imoaza uses her last remaining injection from Roger Krisp to heal Carrick to full health. MIlosh frees everyone from the tentacles, Imoaza uses the last of her magic to cast fly on them all and they rush to reach Abenthy. They rush as the battlefield continues to shift to other places they know... Waterdeep... the ruins of Vraath Keep... and finally as they reach Abenthy and strike a grevious blow against him, it becomes a temple, darkly familiar, a temple that should destroyed.
You stare at a place you thought you would never see again, hoped to never see again. Its dark corridors have been rebuilt and blue flame flickers in torch brackets all around the rebuilt altar room of the Maakengorge temple. Where the Tarrasque once blocked the view of the abyssal chasm of the Maakengorge, now instead there is only space beyond that opening, a void without color or definition.
Nazragul sees the end coming for him and so he curses the players, telling them that there is no way for them to win here... there never was a way. He is inevitable. He is timeless. He is the death beyond the end of the world. He is the new beginning.
And as he speaks, he summons his final spell. A storm of meteors crashes through the high roof of the temple above him, fire raining down on him and the players alike, dealing hundreds of damage, utterly destroying the temple and leaving Nazragul alone, broken but regenerating, floating in space.
The players have been defeated.
Next time, the second part of this final session!

Survey #373
“warm me up in a nova’s glow  /  and drop me down to the dream below”
Have you ever kissed someone that you thought you’d never kiss? Welp, never thought I'd kiss a girl for most of my life. When was the last time you ate take-out and what was it that you ate? Mom bought us breakfast at Bojangle's the morning after my sleep study. I got a sausage, egg, and cheese biscuit. Do you enjoy when guys hit on/flirt with you or does it normally make you uncomfortable or annoyed? When was the last time more than one guy was flirting with you at a time? It makes me uncomfortable, especially if it's very obvious and pushy. Like some respectful flirting is fine and can be flattering if I'm single, but you better respect my boundaries and not act like a dog. I don't think two guys have both been openly interested in me since Juan and Jason in high school. Can you name five things you enjoy looking at pictures of? Animals, flowers, waterfalls, expressions of love between people, and boudoir. Would you rather have an eternal winter or an eternal summer? Both sound pretty sucky, but an eternal summer sounds worse. Do you know much about the Greek gods? Not anymore. I did in high school, as mythology was an elective I took. Are there a lot of stray cats and dogs near where you live? Not in this neighborhood. How would you cope with living in isolation away from society? How long do you think you could cope before you went mad? Oh god, I couldn't cope. I'd lose my shit so fast. Have you ever found any hidden treasure? No. Would you ever want to hibernate through the winter? No, I enjoy winter. Which holiday do you prefer, Halloween or Christmas? I like the Halloween vibe more, but I enjoy Christmas more as a holiday. Do you prefer hot or cold drinks overall? Cold. What’s the smallest thing you’ve ended a relationship over? I don't believe I've broken up with anyone over something small. Have you or a member of your family been diagnosed with COVID yet? My older sister got it. It was hell. What’s the dominant color in the room you’re in at the moment? An off-white. Do you know who your mom’s favorite singer is? James Hetfield of Metallica. Easy. What room in your house is the messiest? The spare room. Have you ever used a “puppy face” to get your way? Ha, yeeeaaah... If you could change any law that exists in your current country, what would it be and why? Here comes free healthcare. For obvious reasons. What were the last toppings you had on a pizza? Pepperoni. Would you rather spend an hour walking a dog or riding a horse? Riding a horse. Do you freak out when you need to visit the doctor or the dentist? Nah. Do you prefer The Lord of the Rings or The Hobbit movies, if you like any of them? I haven't watched either. Which Harry Potter film was your favourite? What about your least favourite? I haven't watched those, either. What do you think about nose piercings? I like them. Nostril studs especially are really cute imo. How many floors does your house have? One. What’s your favorite flavor of Kool-Aid? I don't really like Kool-Aid anymore. Have you ever had anything removed from your body? Yeah, a cyst. Do you enjoy sappy love songs? Unabashedly. Do you wear a one-piece or a two-piece when you go swimming? One-piece. What would be your biggest pet peeve in a relationship? Not communicating your feelings straight-up. Be straightforward and honest with what you're going through with your partner, for the love of God. Have you ever had a teacher hit on you? Have you ever hit on a teacher? No to both. Do you tend to eat more on Halloween, Thanksgiving, or Christmas? Christmas, because of chocolate stocking stuffers and boxes from Dad, haha. Do you know what an "AMV" is? Yeah, I used to make them. Do you think you have a sad life? In some ways, yeah. What’s one award show you have to watch every year? None. Who do you like more: the Batman or the Joker? The Joker, particularly Heath Ledger's. Do you like Rammstein? Love 'em. What is your favorite small dog breed? Aesthetically, I think pugs, but I've said before and I'll say it a thousand more times: I don't support breeding them. What was the first comic book you ever had an obsession over? I've never been obsessed with a comic book. Do you like kids pop-up books? Those were my absolute favorite kind AS a kid. What is your mother's mother's maiden name? Ummm I'm pretty sure Collins. Have you ever pet a monkey? No. What’s your favorite Owl City song… besides "Fireflies?" I actually really like "Hot Air Balloon." What’s your fave Miley Cyrus song? I don't know many, but I do know "The Climb" is absolutely gorgeous. Fave Rascal Flatts song? Probably "My Wish." But I also really like "Why" and "What Hurts the Most." Fave Justin Bieber song? None. Miley Cyrus, Demi Lavato, or Selena Gomez? Jesus, you really like bands that I don't, haha. I don't know any Demi or Selena songs, so idk. Fave Eminem song? Oh man, I do like a lot of Eminem. I know it's so cliche, but I genuinely adore "Love The Way You Lie." It gives me goosebumps. Do you think you could survive a month of solitary confinement? NO. Absolutely not. I would lose my motherfucking mind. What is something that you find utterly boring? Sports, save for dance, are incredibly blah to me. What noise/sound can put you to sleep? Gentle, steady rain tapping on the window. When you are upset, do you tend to shut others out? YYYYYYYYYYYEP. When was the last time you felt abandoned by someone? bleh Does the sight of blood gross you out? No. Do you like red roses, or do you prefer another color? I love red ones, but I really, really like the ones with a pink-peach gradient. Have you ever gone through a red light? I think I MIGHT have accidentally because I was zoned out, but I don't THINK so. Do you fail to stop for stop signs, sometimes? I can't recall if I ever have. What is one of your major turn-offs? Misogyny. The moment you act like you exceed my worth just because you have a dick, byyyyyeeee~ During which year of your life were you the most unhappy? 2016 was hell on Earth for me. Have you ever seen a blue jay in person? I have. Do you like leaves better in the summer/spring, or in the fall? I'd like to meet someone that actually chooses anything besides fall, lol. Do you like the appearance of green eyes? YES! Do you typically like green-colored candies? Yessss. It's not rare for them to be my favorite flavor of whatever the thing is. Who is the most energetic and happy person you know of? My nephew, omg. Have you ever encountered a black widow? I actually have seen at least one to my memory. They're native here. Has an animal ever peed on you? Yes. Do you prefer green or purple/red grapes? I enjoy both, but I prefer green IF they're actually firm. What color is your birthstone? Purple. Why did you leave your house last? To go to the TMS office. I have to go there every day (but the weekends) for two months for treatment now. Is anything on your body sore? Well, inevitably my upper right arm, where my tattoo is. It looks so fucking beautiful redone though, it's all worth it. :') Have you ever eaten a cookie cake before? If so, was it good? Hell yeah man, cookie cakes are great. Do you lose interest in someone easily? I'm quite the opposite. Who was the last person you flirted with? Sara. Do you still talk to the person you fell the hardest for? No. Who’s the last person that slept over your house? My sister and her husband. Have you ever regretted kissing someone? Yes. Are you currently sad about anything? I mean, I always am about something. How would you feel if your last ex fell in love with someone else? I would be super happy for her. Who was the last person who left your life and hurt you? Colleen. Do you know anyone who died of breast cancer? I might know of somebody, but all I know personally are survivors. Do you miss any of your old friends? Well of course. Have you ever been used before? I don't know. Ever taken a picture kissing someone? Yes. What’s the last thing you and your sibling laughed about? I Don't know. I haven't seen either in some time. What’s the last thing you took a picture of? A meme to send Sara, haha. Do you listen to classical music? No. Do you tell your parents who you like? Why or why not? I mean, I don't just randomly bring it up because just being like "hey I like this person _____ now" seems weird. Now if I was asked or mentioning it is somehow relevant, then I will. Who’s the most annoying person in your neighborhood? The damn dog next door who never shuts up. Name one of your psycho exes? None. I was the "psycho ex," and it's embarrassing as shit. Do you make your own clothes and/or add designs to them on your own? No. Do you ever feel guilty eating meat? It's not something I always actively think about, but subconsciously, I absolutely always do. Especially knowing my family doesn't buy from "ethical" markets, but instead big ones. "Ethical" in quotations because there is no moral way to slaughter an animal for food, but at least there are smaller farmers who can give their livestock a better, cleaner, happier life. What are you listening to at the moment? I'm semi-watching Gab play Bioshock. I'd never seen the game before, so just kinda vicariously checking it out. Seems all right. Does anything hurt right now? My tattoo is definitely in the sore phase. It'll start scabbing soon. I literally can't stop looking at it, I love it so much. How many years have you lived at the house you’re living in right now? Around 1 1/2. Have you ever lived in a different country that the one you’re living in? No. Which of your parents will you see next? I live with my mom and rarely see my dad, so. Do you like Chinese food? Only pork fried rice and egg rolls, really. What sort of music were you brought up on? When all of us kids were very little, Mom would usually play her rock channels on the radio, sometimes a (clean) CD. She also would ensure to play kids' cassettes sometimes, too, like Raffy or whoever it was. Once Ashley reached a certain age, she would always ask for a pop channel to be put on, so most of my childhood was that and some country music, too.

Futari wa Pretty Cure Max Heart Movies
Tumblr media
Am I too late for the Oscars?
And we close the Futari wa rewatch with the movies for Max Heart. I wanted to post about these movies on my posts for Max Heart but for logistic reasons I couldn't, but I'm glad I watched these after the fact because it felt like a sweet treat after wrapping up the TV show. Also, it turns out I had more things to say about these movies than I thought I'd have so it's good that it happened like this.
Futari wa Pretty Cure Max Heart: The Movie
So, our first-ever Precure movie is... pretty damn bland. I'm not sure if it is because it's the first precure movie and they didn't really know what to do with it but was very boring at times. The plot wasn't good, the movie exclusive characters were completely uninteresting, and the performances of some of their VA's were doing a pretty bad job. I know I'm no one to judge but like, the queen of the Garden of Hope sounded robotic as hell, it was pretty uncomfortable to listen to her speak.
I think the only thing this movie has going for it is the action that it's pretty damn good throughout the entire movie, even in that super short first fight right at the beginning it was very cool to watch. My problem here comes from the fact that the power level felt really unbalanced, the Dark Witch felt way overpowered for them since the beginning they fought her or her minions around 4 times and the only time the precure had a victory was in the final battle so that felt really not well planned.
Tumblr media
Another thing that shows a lack of planning is the fact that Luminous was completely shafted during this movie, and I get that by the time the movie was released only 10 episodes of the anime were out and Hikari was a part of the team for only 5 episodes or so, she was still very new and the crew could be reluctant of what to do with her, but still, she shouldn't have been left behind like that.
This was a very subpar movie and, aside from the girls' very pretty party dresses and the ending song, I didn't get a lot of enjoyment out of this movie. Thankfully this isn't the only movie under Max Heart's belt.

Futari wa Pretty Cure Max Heart The Movie 2: Friends of the Snow Sky
THIS MOVIE. IS ONE OF THE BEST PRECURE MOVIES OUT THERE. FOR SURE.
I know it's a bold statement to make, especially considering how early in this series I am, but honestly, this movie is just amazing. I watched it twice before writing this and I was a crying mess after both times. They probably learned from the first movie because they changed pretty much everything for this time around. You can say that the plot that makes this movie possible is just a copy and paste from Nagisa and Honoka's fight from Season 1, and despite hating seeing Nagisa being jealous of Honoka with Fujipi because that makes no fucking sense, I don't really mind that this is a reheated plot because what they do with it it's pretty damn awesome.
Tumblr media
And I think here is where this movie completely overshadows the first one, because on top of having a good plot, and great animation and fighting scenes, this movie also has a theme and it works with this theme in both sides of the story. Both in Nagisa and Honoka's path and Hikari and Hinata's path the theme of friendship is touched and developed upon, and the culmination of it at the end is two great messages that I wish other shows focused on friendship would pass on more often, the first one is the message that friends can have fights and arguments aren't the end of a true friendship, and the second one is the fact that you can be friends with someone even if you're not together all the time. I feel like every time when I talk about something where the main focus is friendship I always have to bring up these two points up and y'all are probably tired of reading me say this, but there are points I really believe in and I feel like more often than not shows aimed at kids will go with the easy route and don't touch on these elements that to me are crucial.
Tumblr media
Another great thing about this movie is the villains. Freeze and Frozen by themselves are whatever, you know? There's nothing much special about them, what makes their presence be so great is the fact that they're a duo that is in complete synchrony that is going head-on-head against another duo that is going through a hard time to keep their combo as strong. Again, it's not a completely new concept, but in this situation, it is done so well that it doesn't matter if it's a somewhat overused trope because what we get from it is a very strong and emotional conflict for these two characters that we love and hold dear.
Tumblr media
This leads me to my next point, the Black vs White fighting scene. This was just as cool as I remembered, we have a lot of AMVs of this fight for a reason, but the scene wasn't just that, it also was VERY EMOTIONAL. Seeing these characters that I really love, that have a very good friendship, going against each other so aggressively and not holding back, and on top of that doing it not because they were being controlled but because that was a feeling that they already had in their hearts it's very strong, and it hits very hard. Seeing Black's efforts to not hurt White and a few moments later see her heart being "frozen" just as White's start to melt it's an image that's still encrusted in my mind and it'll probably stay here for quite a while. And especially when you consider their reconciliation scene that happens right after it, seeing them being honest with each other and literally raising from the bottom of a cave to above the clouds it made me realize just how much I care for them and I want them to be well and happy forever because they deserve it. It was truly special.
Tumblr media
Another thing that this movie excels over the previous one is in how they use Hikari, she still doesn't appear as much as Nagisa and Honoka, but she has an actual journey in this movie. She starts meeting up with Hinata and she follows this path actively through-out the movie, even in situations where she knows she's she wouldn't succeed in combat she still was brave enough to go there and be an active part in this story. And this culminates with her, still in her indecisiveness about who she really is, giving a speech that makes her look like a true Queen and also serving as the sound of the reason that gives the message about friendship for both Pollun and Hinata on a very emotional scene that hit really hard in my heart.
Tumblr media
Speaking of Hinata, she and the crew from the Garden of Clouds were way better characters than the guardians and the royal family from the Garden of Hope. I love how from her connection with Hikari she kinda sacrifices herself for the sake of saving Black and White despite having her bickerings with Nagisa because she wanted to name her something stupid. I also like that the "let's all give our power" moment wasn't used to help the precure but to bring Hinata's powers back and with Luminous' aid help her fully grow to the magical phoenix she was meant to be, I think they should've done more of this for the movies rather than Miracle Lights that grant new powers in a pinch.
Tumblr media
And to conclude this review let me talk about the Phoenix forms. They are amazing, they look beautiful and very powerful, the way they fight while on it is very graceful, and its a way better power-up than the lazy gold forms they got on the other movie, and again the reason for this particular power-up happening is also very meaningful and it helps to have a way more memorability.
Tumblr media
Putting it short, skip the first movie, watch the second one. Friends of the Snow Sky is a true masterpiece and a great movie that makes justice to the season it belongs to. So, what are your thoughts on the Max Heart Movies? Have you watched them recently? Let me know in the comments. Thank you so much for reading till this far, I really appreciate it. I'll see ya folks later, bye~

I have wanted to do a post about matching characters/couples with Taylor Swift songs for ages. Now I’m finally getting around to it since her new album Lover was just released! Something I love to do is to associate characters with songs and often times, I can match them up to a song almost perfectly. So after having this album on repeat for the last few days, I’ve taken in the meanings to these songs and have applied them to Furuba characters that I think fit them. I think I’ll do this with Taylor’s other albums too and to other songs in general. It’s pretty fun!
I’m doing a video on YouTube covering this post so this is acting as my script. :))))
WARNING: Major Fruits Basket spoilers under the cut.
I Forgot That You Existed
“Then something happened that magical night
I forgot that you existed
And I thought that it would kill me, but it didn’t”
This one was tough at first. The first one that came to mind was Akito, but I don’t think most of the characters would be cold towards her. But then I started thinking about Kyo’s relationship with his dad and was like “That’s it!” This one is about having obsessively worried about the pain someone has caused you for so long and then one day, you forget about them and the pain they’ve caused you completely because you’ve moved on. After the series ended, I think Kyo really did move on from the hurt that his father put on him after neglecting him. Especially since he has Tohru who is someone who does give him the love he needed.
Cruel Summer
“I snuck in through the garden gate
Every night that summer just to seal my fate
And I scream for whatever it’s worth
“I love you”, ain’t that the worst thing you’ve ever heard?”
I really had to focus on what this song was about because I could not decode it haha. I had to look up the meaning. So I found out that this one refers to what happened in 2016 when Taylor was being harassed by Kim and Kanye West as well as on the internet and how difficult that period was. But at the same time, she had just met the love of her life and their relationship had just started. It’s about them going through this trying time together.
Based on the meaning, this song could apply to more than one couple, but I chose Yuki and Machi. They both were going through years of hardship and low self-esteem and when they met each other and were starting to fall in love with each other, they were still going through it, but they went through it together all while still worrying if they were burdening each other with their instability. The love and support they have for each other in both of their situations is beautiful. I can’t think of a more perfect song for them.
Lover
“I’ve loved you three summers now, honey, but I want ‘em all”
I got more than one comment from ya’ll saying that this song is Kyo and Tohru and yup, I agree. One of the most romantic songs ever so, of course, it fits them. I love how this song just lists off things that she and this person Joe plan to do as they spend the rest of their lives together. I can see Kyo and Tohru doing all these things after they moved away together.
The lyric I mentioned especially fits them because...they literally spent three summers together. In which one of those summers, their romance blossomed. That lyric alone is so them! I love it!
The Man
“They wouldn’t shake their heads and question how much of this I deserve”
Kind of reminds me of Akito? It’s about double standards between what a man does and how if a woman did the same thing, they’d get criticized for it while a man would be praised. The song talks particularly about excessive dating and how men are patted on the back for it while women are often slut-shamed for playing the field. Which doesn’t really scream Akito. Although she did play both Kureno and Shigure, she was never ridiculed for it.
However, she took on a male persona because her mom forced her to. It really makes me wonder how she would’ve been treated while still head of the family if she displayed herself as a woman. One post recently reminded me of what Kyo said after finding out she was female which was “Had I known, I wouldn’t have been so rough on her.” That quote is what made me relate this song to Akito because she was presented as a man. But I have no doubt the zodiacs may have viewed her differently, maybe may have been even less scared of her, had she lived as a female. Something to think about...
The Archer
“I’ve been the archer
I’ve been the prey
Who could ever leave me?
But who could stay?”
My favorite song! I did a single post about this one immediately after hearing it because I had to mention how much it reminds me of Kyo and Tohru. More so it reminds me of Kyo specifically, but it applies to his relationship with her as well. All that I could think of while listening to it for the first time was “Oh, my God, this is Kyo!” The song is about realizing how weak you are along with coming to terms with the fact that all everyone ever does is abandon you.
The chorus really reminds me of him. “I’ve been the archer”: he’s hurt others, including Tohru when he rejected her. “I’ve been the prey”: he’s been hurt by others, mainly the Sohma’s when they ostracized him. “Who could ever leave me?”: He can’t believe that they would just neglect him. Because who would? Especially a child?! “But who could stay?”: But he understands why. Because he is the cat. I will never not think of Kyo when I hear this song lol. Like I’ve said, I wanna do an amv to this song for the true form arc because it’s perfect!
I Think He Knows
“I think he knows
His footprints on the sidewalk
Lead to where I can’t stop
Go there every night”
This song sounds kind of obsessive to me. That really reminds me of Kagura and Kyo. Because that chick is crazy ahaha. Although the song talks about the love interest also being into her, which Kyo is not, I still apply it to them. Especially because I think Kagura is delusional in regards to how she thinks Kyo feels about her. So when the song says “I think he knows”, when I apply it to Kagura, I find it hilarious because Kyo thinks the exact opposite of her.
Miss Americana & The Heartbreak Prince
“It’s you and me, that’s my whole world
They whisper in the hallway “She’s a bad, bad girl”
Another one I had to really decode because it uses so much imagery. Apparently, it talks about her political stance which I kind of see? But it can also be interpreted as a romance that is unstable due to everyone around them trying to break them apart. It makes me think of Kyoko and Katsuya because, from the start, they’ve had odds stacked against them that kept them from really being together. Even after they were married, the Honda family was very hostile towards her. So they constantly were trying to overcome that. But I think ultimately they just focused on their love for each other and never let it go.
Paper Rings
“I like shiny things
But I’d marry you with paper rings
Darling, you’re the one I want”
This song is so cheesy but so cute. It talks about not carrying about formalities, such as engagement rings. She’d marry him anyway even if he gave her a paper ring because she’s that in love. I was reminded of Hatori and Mayu. The song also talks about the relationship being “cat and mouse for a month or two or three”, which Hatori and Mayu were for longer than three months haha. I can see Mayu not caring about the formalities of a wedding, she’d still be happy because she would be with Hatori forever and that’s all that matters.
Cornelia Street
“I hope I never lose you, hope it never ends
I’d never walk Cornelia Street again
That’s the kind of heartbreak time could never mend
I’d never walk Cornelia Street again”
This song is very story-based so it was a little hard to relate it to the characters because it’s so personal. Like, they’ve never been on a Cornelia Street that we know of lol. However, I think the chorus really applies to how Tohru feels about Kyo. In the latter half of the series, we see her so stressed about the idea of him being locked away forever because she doesn’t want him to leave her. And again, after he rejects her, she’s completely heartbroken so much so that it’s evident that time could never heal that wound.  Fortunately, he stayed with her in the end. :)
Death by a Thousand Cuts
“I look through the windows of this love
Even though we boarded them up
Chandelier’s still flickering here
Cause I can’t pretend it’s okay when it’s not”
First thought was Rin and Haru because it’s the only breakup song on the album. It talks about someone leaving her and her not being able to get over it no matter how hard she tries to. Haru could never move on from Rin. Like we see in the manga, he tears apart a classroom because he’s that upset that she broke up with him.
I also love the lyric “Trying to find a part of me that you didn’t touch”. Rin and Haru have been together since they were children so there’s always going to be that deep connection between them.
London Boy
“They say home is where the heart is
But that’s not where mine lives”
Another very personal song so it was hard to relate it to the characters because none of them are in love with an English boy hahaha. But from what we got from Fruits Basket Another, Hana married a foreigner so I’ll just apply it to them. That’s all I got lol.
Soon You’ll Get Better
“You’ll get better soon
Cause you have to”
This song is deep, man. It talks about a loved one being in poor health and her being in denial about it. She just has to assure herself that they are going to get better. I really wanted to apply this one to Tohru and Kyoko, but Kyoko died before Tohru could think “You’ll get better” so there was no hope. Instead, I related it to Rin and Haru since Rin is in such bad health throughout the whole series whether it be mentally or physically, which constantly left Haru worried about her. He gave her the support that she would pull through in the end and from what we see, she did get better. And I just hope she’s in a better mental state after the series ends.
False God
“We might just get away with it
Religion’s in your hips
Even if it’s a false god
We’d still worship this love”
This one uses a lot of imagery about the toxicity of a relationship, but yet the two refuse to let it go. In my opinion and a popular one at that, Shigure and Akito have the most toxic relationship in the series and they’re aware of that. However, they couldn’t give a crap about it. As the lyric says “Even if it’s a false god, we’d still worship this love”. Even if their relationship was wrong, they’d still embrace them. I think it fits them perfectly. The chorus also alludes to a lot of sexual situations so that’s also pretty fitting as they’re one of the very few couples that we get any details of a sexual relationship about.
You Need to Calm Down
“You just need to take several seats
Then try to restore the peace
And control your urges to scream about all the people you hate”
Addressing the haters. So I thought it was perfect for Uo and Hana who are always so fed up with that Yuki fan club bullying Tohru. I feel like they would say all these lyrics to these girls. Good for them for standing up for Tohru! She needs it!
Afterglow
“I don’t wanna do this to you
I don’t wanna lose this with you
I need to say “Hey, it’s all me, just don’t go”
Meet me in the afterglow”
This one is really straightforward. It’s about someone sabotaging their relationship and apologizing to their partner for it. It makes me think of how Kyo felt after he called Tohru delusional and pushed her away. He very quickly regretted saying that to her especially after she fell off the cliff and for a few minutes, he thought she was dead. And the last thing he said to her was so hurtful. But he reconciles with her in the end and apologizes for being so stupid.
The song discusses that pain she feels that she hurt her loved one so badly. As we’ve seen so many times before, Kyo doesn’t want to hurt Tohru. Even though he hurt her feelings because he thought it would benefit her. But, no. Wrong thing to do! At least he learned from that mistake and I’m sure he will never do that to her again.
Me!
“One of these things is not like the others
Living in winter, I am your summer”
My least favorite Taylor Swift song ever actually. It’s so cringe. So I honestly don’t want to talk much about it. I guess I can relate it to Akito and Shigure? Because Shigure thinks he is the one for Akito and not Kureno? Idk...
It’s Nice to Have a Friend
“You’ve been stressed out lately, yeah, me too
Something gave you the nerve to touch my hand”
At first, I thought this was just a friend song, but it’s actually about two childhood friends getting married later on. So that changes things. I think of Kisa and Hiro. Although we never see them get married, they’ve been childhood friends forever and they have that very innocent relationship like the song describes. And I headcanon that they do get married when they’re older so...
Daylight
“I don’t wanna look at anything else now that I saw you
I don’t wanna think of anything else now that I thought of you
I’ve been sleeping so long in a twenty-year dark night
And now I see daylight”
Omg I’m obsessed with this song right now. The message of it really means a lot to me. It’s about being in a dark place for a long time and then someone comes into your life and you’re so in love with them that all the mistakes you made and trials you went through in the past are just a fading memory. This person is your daylight. The one that helped pull you out of the darkness and into the light.
Hands down, this is Kyo and Tohru. Specifically, I think it describes Kyo’s feelings towards Tohru after they got together. We see that he’s been in a horrible place for a really long time. He never thought he would ever find someone to love him back. But Tohru did and in turn, she helped him come out of that dark place. Like these lyrics state “I once believed love would be burning red, but it’s golden”, I think he saw love as a fantasy, something that couldn’t work. But instead of it being “burning red” (impossible and toxic) it’s “golden” (beautiful and amazing).
~
So that’s it! If you have listened to the album and are familiar with the songs, let me know if you agree with the characters or couples I chose or if not, which characters would you associate with these songs?

A Summary of the Yandere Panel from Otakon 2019
Tumblr media
Hey there everyone, Kai here!
As everyone may know, Julie and I went to Otakon this year and basically dicked around. We didn’t see many yandere related this beside two Yuno cosplayers. But a highlight for yandere related things was a yandere panel that occured on Friday. Unfortunately Julie didn’t go on Friday, but I did.
Here’s a brief summary of the Yandere Panel starring me, Kai.
As anyone can imagine, yes, the yandere panel was wack. It was fan ran and it was just a slideshow of random “yanderes” and some video clips. Surprisingly, it was a packed room.
Kicking things off, the host gave a definition of yandere… quoting from TV Tropes. Sigh… we said this before but we take TV Tropes with a grain of salt since it’s basically wikipedia and anyone can edit it. If you guys want to know how fucked TV Tropes is, they had Gaston from Beauty and the Beast as a known “yandere” for a brief period of time before it was edited out. As anyone can imagine, I nearly had a stroke seeing this. It’s like when a student turning in their college paper and all the sources are from wiki. I’m sure someone out there is thinking “But Kai, you guys use wiki all the time for some anons. Isn’t that hypocritical?” The difference here is that we don’t use wiki for the opinion but for the facts. There aren’t any websites out there who would write out a play by play of an entire story. From there, we take the sequence of events and make our own analysis... we even emphasize that we use wiki and it isn’t 100% accurate. That’s the difference. Anyways, let’s talk about the “yanderes”.
First off, the host showed a picture of Griffth from Berserk and explained why he’s a yandere. Cue my deadpanned expression. First off, the panel said that Griffth had two “obsessions”, which automatically knocked him out of the running. But if you need more evidence: Griffth doesn’t even love his two “obsessions” aka Guts and that one chick. Sure you can say Griffth is obsessed over Guts but not romantically. And as everyone knows, we don’t consider “Platonic Yanderes” as yanderes.
Moving on, the host talked about Homura from Madoka Magika. We already established her as a yandere, so moving on.
The host then talked about Gauron and Leonard from Full Metal Panic. Gauron is a big “eh” from me when I checked out his wiki. They describe him as a psychopath with no compassion. Aka, has no emotion = he can’t feel love = he doesn’t love his obsession making him not a yandere. Not enough information for me to say but I’m leaning that he isn’t a yandere since he holds more of “lust” than love for his target. And we all know, lust isn’t love. Next is Leonard. Compared to Gauron, he sounds more of a yandere due to the fact that he actually forced a kiss on his target. But it’s a big maybe because of not enough information and it feels more like this his target is an after thought while he’s more interested in other things…. So, I don’t really feel he’s lovesick. But idk.
Next the host brings up the girls from School Days. As we all remember, we already state the School Day girls are more like psychopaths or yangires. But one thing to note is that the host showed the killing clip from the anime. It was the first time I ever watched the original clip that wasn’t just a gif or from a yandere AMV. And oh boy, I burst out laughing. Deadass, me and my friend, Charity, were the only people laughing at the clip.  I’m sorry y’all but that shit is so dramatic and cheesy that it’s a god damn comedy. The stabbing… the cheesy music… god I nearly lost my mind. I’m glad the music was loud enough that it masked my friend and mine laughter. I’m sure the people sitting around us thought we were nuts.
As a side note, the host mentioned Jin Kisaragi from Blaze Blue as a yandere. My friend turned to me so fast and looked me dead in the eye and said, “This chick doesn’t know what she’s talking about. Deadass, Jin isn’t a yandere. He’s just obsessed with killing his brother but he doesn’t want to fuck his brother. You know what I mean?”
It was at this point I had enough of this nonsense and I didn’t want to waste an hour having my brain cells killed. But right before I left, the hot mentioned Creed from Black Cat as a yandere. Fact checking on that Creed isn’t really a yandere. He’s a straight up narcissist and only obsessed over his target due to his ego and love for power/skill. So he’s not in love or lovesick… hence, not a yandere.
While I never actually finished the panel, it’s obvious to see that the host would just continue spouting out clickbait yanderes. Honestly, I didn’t want the heartburn from the stress of this and I don’t want to get the crap beaten out of me as I whisper to my friend about how kawaii anime girls with knifes aren’t yanderes. So that’s the yandere panel in a nutshell.
But man… if anyone with a mediocre sized fanbase can host a panel, why can’t us? Next time otakon comes around, Julie and I will see if we can host our own yandere panel. (Partly joke, partly serious)

Friendship over Chivalry
Note: Because I finally watched the infamous Episode 16 of Fate/Zero, well, let’s just all agree Diarmuid deserves better. Rewatching some of his final moments is so hard and I had to remedy that. So, I’m writing again. Dunno if this’ll go into Small Sparkles yet, so I wanted to post on Tumblr first. Inspired by @raspberryusagi’s art once more, plus a story she wrote way back when. This is for you, Usagi-san. I hope you’ll like this. :) A sequel to my previous Diarmuid writings.
The theme for this small thing is actually the song featured in the first Fate AMV I watched, being The Beginning from Against The Current. The AMV in question featured scenes from almost everything in the various Fate continuities, and considering how the lyrics seem to speak to all the Servants I’ve seen… it fit.
Go ahead and enjoy. Warnings for Servant angst and calls for much-needed therapy talks. Seriously, where are the therapists for these people…?
-----------------------------------------------
“Tomoko?”
A soft call of my name was the start of the day. In any other situation, I would’ve responded with a normal greeting befitting of my occupation of cafe pianist, more so since I was still at work. Something like, “Yes, what can I do to help you?” would’ve been fitting.
But this time?
My nerves all tensed and my heart jumped.
There was something about this call that made things different.
The name was already on my tongue when I turned around and made eye contact with yellow eyes. The mole underneath the right eye confirmed everything else. I couldn’t help but beam. The lances strapped to his back weren’t an issue in the slightest. Heck, even if I was at work, there was no way I couldn’t be happy at seeing a friend. “Dia!”
“My lady,” he said softly, the smile honest and wide on his face as he bowed his head, one arm tucked towards his chest. “Apologies for the intrusion and the use of such of a title, but I had to come to see you. May I partake in a bit of your time?”
I blinked before holding back a fond sigh. This was definitely Diarmuid Ua Duibhne, first spear of the Knights of Fionna and Lancer Servant I came to call as a friend in dreams. He was still being that regal Knight, even when it had been so long since we solidified friendship to begin with. Considering the fact that he wasn’t wearing his armor and instead partaking in a suit a la a certain Saber I grew to love… Heh. Instead of sighing, I reached over and lightly poked the top of Diarmuid’s head. “Boop. Dia, you silly Knight, you should know my answer.”
He jolted, the two spears on his back clinking against one another with the motion. Then he raised his head, yellow eyes shining with uncertainty as he opened his mouth. “Should I take that as a ‘yes’?” he tried quietly.
“It’s definitely a ‘yes’, you silly Lancer.” I couldn’t help but giggle because the face he was wearing was so fish-like. He needed more nice things. “Why wouldn’t it be?”
Something shined in Diarmuid’s yellow eyes as he opened his mouth again. “Perhaps if…” he shook his head. “No, it is nothing.” He put on another smile, and I decided not to mention how fake it looked in spite of the relief in his eyes, instead noting it in my head for later. “Thank you, Tomoko.”
I inclined my head and smiled back. Usako-san wasn’t with him, so considering he was alone… There was no denying all of the worry bells going off in my head. “I can get my break from Mama and Papa, so then we can talk at the piano? Or do you want to talk outside?”
Diarmuid bowed his head again, the smile on his face turning a bit more genuine with the gesture. “The piano is sufficient, Tomoko. As long as there is privacy—”
I couldn’t help the high-pitched glee filling my voice as my mouth moved for me. “Got it!” The privacy seal was already on my fingertips once I reached into my kimono sleeve for the thing. So, once it was in my hands to brandish like a trophy to my Lancer of a friend, Diarmuid blinked. “No need to worry!”
“Ah…” Diarmuid stared at me for another second or so before covering his mouth with one of his gauntlet-covered hands, his eyebrows furrowing on his head. His shoulders were shaking just like Saber’s when she laughed. Awww. “Pft, my word, milady,” he snickered quietly, “you have not changed in the time of my absence, have you?”
I could feel my smile turn a bit more solemn. “I try not to,” I confessed, my voice quieting with the emotion. “I hope it convinces you to keep coming back like this.”
The thought was kept to the back of my mind instead of being voiced aloud.
I get lonely too, y’know.
I couldn’t stop my ninja friends from taking missions. I never could.
Even then, there was no way I could voice that, especially to Dia.
Still, those yellow eyes of Diarmuid’s focused on me again with a wide look before softening. “Of course, Tomoko. Serving you — no,” Diarmuid shook his head, his eyes a bit more sad looking before he tucked a hand towards his chest, “being your friend has been a surprisingly pleasant experience. Please do not assume I feel discontent towards you. This brutish warrior has…” I was not expecting him to blush. “I admit it is informal, but the platonic affection in this shrewd heart of mine is real when I think of you.”
The waning smile on my face was already growing back to be a beam I couldn’t hide thanks to those words from the Lancer. Diarmuid. No, Dia. Still a Knight even in a new life with a new lord. Or perhaps “savior” would be the better term. Usako-san, even from the few times Diarmuid mentioned her, did so many things that made him happier. To see him actually admit to something “informal” like that — all I could say to describe the feeling was that it was definitely a warmth I liked.
“Thankie, Dia,” I allowed myself to say, trying not to grin like a goof. “Now, come on. There’s a chair near the piano for you.”
Diarmuid smiled back at me, and in that moment, the sunlight probably could’ve become twice as bright.
-----------------------------------------------
I probably shouldn’t have been so surprised considering Diarmuid did want to be alone and without the supervision of Saber, but still.
“You knew Arturia-san?” The question came off feeling foreign and wrong in my mouth, and once Diarmuid flinched, I tried to backtrack. “I mean, if you don’t want to say anymore, I understand, Dia! I won’t pry if you don’t want me to! So… I’m sorry for interrupting. You can get back to your story.”
Yeeeep. Those gold eyes staring at me didn’t help much, so the last bit came out far too high-pitched for my liking. Sure, I could give myself a little slack because of how I wasn’t expecting that, but still. Even if Arturia-san shared personal things at her own discretion, which was rare, that did not warrant a surprised reaction towards Diarmuid sharing something himself.
I forced myself to take a breath to calm myself. “S-Sorry, Dia. Really.”
“Milady — no, Tomoko — there is nothing to apologize for,” Diarmuid said immediately, and the apparent callused hand covering the top of both of my own made it obvious he was trying to comfort me in some way. “I should have explained more properly had I known you would be so shocked. So,” he squeezed my hands, “may I?”
I met his eyes and nodded. “Whatever you need me to do, I’ll do. I’ll try to stay calm.”
He smiled softly. “Thank you, Tomoko.” There was no missing the gratitude in his voice. It was then his turn to take a breath, and then Dia bowed his head, never retracting his grip on my hands. “I… I would like your advice on how to apologize to her.”
“Eh?” I blinked. The first question of “What did you do wrong” immediately graced my head, but I pushed it back so that it wouldn’t fall onto my tongue. There was no way I could ask that. His grip on my hands was desperate enough as is. Instead, I took another breath and said quietly, “Could I ask why you feel that way, Diarmuid?”
Dia raised his head just slightly to show the tops of his eyelids, but he still didn’t meet my eyes. “…Alright, Tomoko,” he allowed, before taking a breath.  “In the past, when I had a different Lord than Lady Usako, I met Saber — Arturia Pendragon — in combat over the Holy Grail.” The shrewd and fond smile on his face was such a tiny gesture, but spoke volumes of something I knew he was just barely covering the iceberg on. “She was a brilliant warrior, even back then, and I had always hoped to have one last battle with her before the end. With both of our honors as Knights on the line, to the death.”
I nodded, trying to give what was an understanding hum for him to continue. Even if a part of me wasn’t sure of what I was doing, even when another part of me was scared at just hearing the “to the death” part, I turned my right hand over so I could grip his left hand.
Through the handhold, I could feel Diarmuid jolt just slightly before relaxing, and his thumb immediately rubbed the side of my pointer finger. “Thank you for the comfort, Milady,” he said quietly before loosening his grip, “but I do not believe I deserve such a thing. I… I cursed Saber in my last moments before meeting you.”
Oh god.
Cold dread washed over me first, but I held it down with everything I had, keeping my voice plaintive and soft while never letting go of his limp fingers. “Why did you think you did that, Dia?” There was no way I could reject him. Even if I didn’t know Dia as long as I did Art-san, he was still a Servant I could call a friend. Family even, if I could go that far with the number of times we met in dreams. So for him to pull away like this, no. “There’s a difference between ‘deserve’ and ‘want,’ Dia. And I want to comfort you and hear you out.”
Diarmuid raised his head to look at me, and the molten gold of his eyes had me stop for a moment. In that instant, it felt like the mole under his right eye was glowing, and I rubbed my eyes with my left hand. The rubbing helped since the glowing stopped once I pulled my hand back, but was it just me…? “Thank you, Milady,” he said again, but he shook his head. “But I am not sure. I said many horrible things I wish I could take back. So many vile words a Knight of my caliber should not have uttered. And fate was cruel to both of us then. I served a Master that did not deserve my spears. I bewitched my Master’s beloved with this curse of mine without meaning to.”
It was hard to miss how he absently touched the mole under his eye with the statement.
Yet another sign a friend of mine needed therapy and more help than I could possibly give. But I still stayed quiet to hear the rest.
“And yet,” he paused, as if fighting a lump in his throat. “I… In the last moments of my previous life, of the War I fought before I met you and Lady Usako, when facing Saber that last time in combat, the only one I could honorably face as myself and not a Servant bound by Command Seals, I…” his smile dropped completely as he turned away, not meeting my eyes. “I cursed her. Bleeding at the mouth, dying. My previous Lord had commanded me to die, and it was all because of her Lord. So, I hoped she would meet a cruel end. I hoped, at the time, that her dreams would bear no fruit because of the actions her previous Master did that led to my end. The things he did, that fiend—” Dia turned his head away, and I tried not to flinch. Saber’s previous Master was a man? But I thought Saber fought in the Fourth and Fifth Holy Grail Wars… “I do not know if she had any part in what her Master planned. But it…”
I gripped his hand as gently as I could. “It hurt?”
There was a pause. “Yes,” Dia said finally. His voice cracked slightly too. “It did. Thinking of her, the King of Knights, assisting in such cruelty.” Then, for some reason, a bit of wonder crept into his voice. Or was it contemplative quiet? I didn’t know, but waited anyways. “But when I look back, when I remember that time, the look on Saber’s face, Arturia’s face — it all spoke of shock. As if she did not know and did not wish such a thing to happen to begin with. And I cursed her without knowing any better. And when seeing her again here, happy with you, Tomoko, I…” he gently pushed my hand away. “I do not believe I have the right to try to apologize after that. To try finding out the truth. Even if I share a friendship with you.” Diarmuid hung his head, frowning bitterly. “I do not know why I even came to you about this, speaking of troubles that rest far beyond your lifetime. A brute such as myself should not have the right to be so selfish and imposing on you, Milady.”
Something in me snapped.
Maybe it was the name. Maybe it was Dia not making eye contact. But still. Something snapped.
Okay, just stop. Stop there, Dia. Stop right there.
I shook my head. “Dia.” I wanted to reach out to grip his hand again, but he had already clenched both of his hands into fists atop his knees, so I held back. “That last part might be because we’re friends, isn’t it?”
Diarmuid’s head was still bowed, but I could see him startle. “Pardon?”
Another snap in my blood.
This had gone on for too long.
I reached over to poke his forehead. “First, a boop for you, because this much self-deprecating talk means I owe you a concert now to get that out of your head.” The words were enough to get Diarmuid’s attention to finally look up, but before he could open his mouth in what I could assume was a protest, I cut him off with a miffed, “And secondly, it’s not about whether you ‘have’ the right or not, Dia. It’s whether you’re gonna give yourself that chance to apologize and make amends. Because to me,” I booped him again, harder on his head. He didn’t get pushed back as much as I would’ve liked, but the shock in his gold eyes were enough of a sign to show that he was listening. “You’ve already earned it back.”
“…Come again?” Diarmuid gaped.
I held back a sigh, booping him again, a bit softer this time with my pointer finger so he wouldn’t recoil from the force. “Dia, the simple fact that you came to me in spite of all your pain about it means you want to move forward, at least to me. You don’t want to have any more regrets, so by confiding in a friend, you hoped to find a solution.” I smiled and reached over to grab his left hand in my right once those gold eyes focused on me. “Or if I’m wrong, feel free to correct me.”
It took another long while, but Diarmuid gripped my hand back. “Go on, Tomoko,” he said dutifully. “It feels right.”
“What am I, a queen? No.” I laughed it off. “Dia.” Out of some kind of feeling, I leaned in to bump foreheads. “You’re doing fine. The fact that you asked me, I’m honored, okay? Don’t feel horrible for expressing anger or hurt when it’s natural to do so from us being human. Sure, you’re a Servant,” I gestured to the two lances still sitting strapped to his back, much to the visible chagrin of some servers passing by, “but you still have your memories. You still have your heart of a human. And it’s okay to feel the way you do.”
“Milady…”
I bumped his head with mine, cupping his cheek with my left hand. “Tomoko, Dia. I’m Tomoko, remember? And I’m not your lady. Your lady now is Usagi-chan, right?”
A hand was gripping the one I was using to hold Lancer’s face. “…Yes,” he admitted. “You are correct, Tomoko. But… but I—”
“There are no ‘buts’ here, Dia.” I bumped his head again while closing my eyes, absently starting to wonder when the numbing feeling would come in to replace the slight bits of pain running through my nervous system. “It’s not about what you did in the past that decides things. It’s how you are in this very moment. So, how do you feel now?”
Diarmuid paused, his breath gently brushing my nose from the close contact we were sharing. “Unsure,” he said quietly. “But I want to be a better Knight. I want to reconcile.”
“With Arturia-san?” I tried.
“…With Saber,” Dia agreed. I did not miss how he squeezed both my hands.
“And that’s the first step, Dia,” I opened my eyes to stare into his gold eyes, smiling. “You know what you have to do. You got the chance a lot of others probably wish they could’ve had.” Like me with Ty, maybe. Instead of voicing that, I kept smiling. “What matters now is when and where you want to go. What you want to do to accomplish what you want.” I pulled back, never letting go of his hands, instead shrugging my shoulders towards the cafe entrance. “Saber gets her break in a few minutes, so if you want, Dia, I can call her over?”
“Eh?” Diarmuid looked positively baffled now, his gaze shifting between me and the cafe around us. “But, Tomoko, I believe Saber is still working until sundown—”
I let go of his cheek to point towards my own head with a grin. “You underestimate me, Dia. And besides.” I patted his hand. “I said it before. ‘Whatever you need me to do, I’ll do.’ It’s what friends do. So, Dia,” I toned down the grin to what was hopefully a warm smile as Diarmuid met my eyes again, “do you want me to call Arturia-san over?”
Yet again, those gold eyes flickered. Diarmuid glanced between his lap, me, and the piano in quick succession before going back to focus on me. Slowly but surely, a smile grew on his face too. A more Dia-like smile. “Then, if it is alright, Tomoko, please.” He hung his head. “Nothing would be more helpful than that.”
Keeping the happy juice to myself, I reached over to wrap my arms around his neck in a hug before thinking the words. Art-san?
Yes, Milady?
Hee hee. You’re attentive. Enough about that though. There’s someone here that would like to talk to you. I let go of Dia with a single pat to his shoulder with my free hand before getting up from my piano bench. They’re at the piano, so come back in to take your break, okay?
A pause. Should I be worried, Tomoko? You sound more excited than usual…
No. The smile on my face was definitely real. I couldn’t help but hum. Not at all. I’ll take your shift out the door while you talk. I’m fine, Art-san.
If you are sure…
Once I walked off the stage, I could see my Knight walk back through the red cafe doors, much to the visible surprise of my Lancer friend. Once those emerald green eyes focused on me, I winked at her. Don’t worry, Saber. Leave the worrying to me.
For once, I could walk out and be the host I always wanted to be.
It wasn’t my place to listen in.
-----------------------------------------------
“Lancer? You… You were here?”
Diarmuid took a breath. “Hello, Arturia. It has been a while.” I have another chance to repent. “I… I meant to apologize.”
The former King of Knights took a seat next to him before smiling sadly. “I meant to say the same too. Our last bout, it did not end the way I wanted it to. You…” Arturia hung her head. “You deserved better. Kiritsugu was a fiend, and if I had known what he was planning, I would have stopped him. With all my might, all my power, if it meant making a difference.” The words were inadequate, but she bowed her head and said them. “I’m sorry.”
“Saber, I…” Diarmuid shook his head. “I’m sorry too. For all I said. For cursing you. May I… May I explain myself? If it is not a bother?”
Arturia shook her head too, catching a glimpse of a familiar paper square on the piano nearby. “It could never be a bother.” She paused. “I missed you.”
A hand cupped her chin to guide her gaze upwards, and Saber looked up to see Diarmuid’s gold eyes. “I missed you too.”
Neither Servant could miss Tomoko smiling to herself outside the Cafe doors, but they decided not to comment on it, sharing a smile between themselves.
-----------------------------------------------
“Hi, Usagi-chan!”
“Hello, Tomoko-san. I’m here for Diarmuid…? Got another mission to fight on.”
There was a pointing of a finger. “Inside of the cafe, near the piano, having a heart-to-heart, I think you’ll have to wait a while…?”
“Oh.” The saying was accentuated by the wag of a wolf tail and the twitch of wolf ears. “Is it working out?”
“I think so!”
“Hee hee.”
“So… want a cup of tea?”
“That’d be nice!”
The two girls shared a giggle. It was all good.
