I think it probably is more likely that Falin chimera was purposely trying to disarm Laios by crying for help, rather than that part actually being genuine. Cause it happens at a moment when she’s temporarily disarmed from being electrocuted and then she does make a smug face afterwards. But I’m sentimental and I Want To Believe
Uhh it could also maybe be both? Like both an intentional tactic (from the dragon side?) and also a sign that at least some part of Falin is in there and wants to be saved
The way they animate it, her eyes go from dragon-like slitted pupils to normal round pupils as she says it. And then a tear falls from one eye, while the other eye stays completely dry
Looking at all that again with a bit more context and possibly a clearer mind, that looks like it’s all to make the ruse look more realistic. If it were more of an outburst as I originally believed (or was trying to convince myself), then the pupils wouldn’t have changed probably? It seems like an intentional move
In addition to the pupil change, the single tear seems forced as well. Like she could only muster up one fake tear while the other eye remained completely dry.
On the other hand…it’s kinda hard to force tears at all, especially so quickly. And if we imagine for the moment that the tear was genuine, could the fact that it only fell from one eye mean that only half of her was crying? Like maybe the dragon is really mostly in control, but it let Falin out as an emotional manipulation tactic. Meaning that the cry was both genuine and just a combat strategy/self-defense measure.
And I’m still not sure what to make of the fact that she pushes Laios out of the way before crushing Kabru. Like was it just an accident then? Or is it more just a side effect of Laios being essentially the main character and no one in the main party gets killed in that scene? Or…could it still be that maybe, deep down, Falin doesn’t want to hurt her brother?

girl at centre complaining about having to "stretch" her money until she gets her next disability payment (her grandparents also give her money regularly) and she goes "i'm going to have to order the cheapest option on the menu at [sushi place]!" and i just sit there with my eye twitching bc i have recently had to stop buying cereal bc its too expensive. cereal is literally my second favourite food of all time. i want to cry, i want to bang my head against the wall. also another person who goes to the centre stayed at the psych ward ONCE and they filled out all the paperwork to get her onto disability without her even having to ask for that, and i've stayed there TWICE and they've never even mentioned that being a thing they could do for me,,,,,, i want ! to kms ! sorry !

I'm reading more and more poly romances, and I typically am very big on poly books needing to like... give fair amounts of time and complexity to each dynamic in order to work for me? Every character needs to serve something other than another dynamic. Like in Sierra Simone's New Camelot, Embry and Ash have this distinct "you have to beat me to love me" thing, whereas Ash and Greer have the idyllic dom/sub dynamic, and Embry and Greer at first fall in love because they're both in love with Ash, but slowly develop a more individual dynamic that Ash recognizes needs to be nurtured away from him for a while.... and in Sara Cate's Give Me More, Hunter and Drake have the childhood friends who are in love but don't know it thing, and Hunter and Isabel have a lived in deeply romantic relationship, and Drake and Isabel have this whole forbidden desire guilt deal... It all matters.
And while I don't think every person Nora loves and plays with in the Original Sinners series is, thus far, someone she is IN LOVE with (like, I don't think she ever truly fell for Zachary for even a minute, for example) her dynamics with them matter in terms of how they affect her character and theirs. They don't just serve another relationship.
EXCEPT. For Wesley. Who, and I don't know if this was intentional as Tiffany Reisz was writing these books, I'll be real--only exists to convince me further that Nora and Soren are low down dirty dogs who just can't quit each other, and the two of them breaking out a knife on each other in bed is somehow! Much more romantic! Than Wesley's attempts to loooove her

🌺 Layla loves receiving homemade gifts, but on the flip side expensive gifts make her nervous.
oh, interesting! layla is the sort of person who will appreciate any gift, no matter the cost, as long as the intent behind it was genuine. what doesn't matter so much is it's price or monetary value, but simply the person who gifted it to her did so because they cared for her. how she approaches being given one fully depends on the gift giver's demeanor!
if she thinks they did it just to buy her, she'd be much more flippant with it than say, someone did it because they were trying to give her a fun gift to make her laugh (how she at first interpreted daeran's gifts F) or because they're trying to make a romantic gesture of some kind and will go according to the situation
that was very long winded explanation Lmao. all that said however i am going to give this a 6/10, i won't lie and say expensive gifts dont get assumed to be more joke gifts (sorry daeran...) or someone trying to buy her off for one reason or another. the later definitely make it much harder for someone to approach her and continue to have a relationship with her after that point, as she'll get uncomfortable and perhaps even scared depending on the situation
either way, it's definitely not the best way of getting her attention if your intention is you're trying to court her lol
