summoning plans!! (2024 addition because man I have a mild addiction and as a f2p I cannot afford to be broke over banners I do not actually care about that much and-)

feel free to use this as well, I have found that it is rather helpful!

here's the initial layout (subject to change per the usual)

My ramblings under the cut :) :

Cutting down from last year's eleven banners to five?! insane. this is due to a) really thinking about what cards are actually the most appealing in my mind and b) time constraints. I really only play prsk for half an hour a day (at most, sometimes I may go a few days without due to having a life (a shock)), so I realized this year that the time required to successfully acquire the cards I wanted was nonexistent. so we're being reasonable! I think I had to cut out little bravers, the valentines event, both of the Kohane focus events, the toya dragon event, the Kanade Zamza (so excited for song btw) event, light up the fire, holy shit this is a lot, the latest akito event, and the third-anniversary event?? I mean, that last one should have the dream pick, so obviously, I'll try to pull a little, but we'll see how the savings are.

A reminder that doing these is kind of just a way for me to personally organize my thoughts and that anyone is welcome to try this!! visually this just helps me a lot.

Okay, now some more reasoning (again half for my own benefit) to pull on each banner:

In the Corner of a Resonant Town (ALL OF THESE CARDS ARE SO PRETTY WTF)

Shiho: I technically have a limited of her among a couple of other four stars, but the theme of this whole set shot an arrow through my heart the moment I saw it. It's just??? I have no words

An: similar reasoning as Shiho, I have her fest card and two other normal ones, bUt HeY oNlY tHe LiM cAmE wItH a CoStUmE-

Ena: did I just say that I was skipping her fest because I gained a lim of her this year? yes. do I still want this one and will fight to acquire it? yes.

Miku: I actually have a couple of Miku four stars already, but I feel like seeing her on a rate up nowadays is becoming...rarer? probably due to the need to put other virtual singers on banners to balance out how many she had at the beginning of the game, but there's no doubt the frequency at which she's on banners is significantly less (unless she's the focus or smth). not to mention that because she has six versions of herself, it's even rarer for one that you might like a lot to be on a banner?? so far this is one of three Leo/need Miku four stars, and the only one that's limited, so you know damn well that if it's this pretty I'm going for it.

Our Escape for Survival

So quick note: because this one is only a month after Resonant Town, idk how much I'll actually save for it. time-dependent ig

Mizuki: hot take the 3D outfit isn't that good but the art of it is AMAZING. I saw a comment somewhere saying "wow they look like k-pop idols" and as a fan of the genre my fate was sealed. while it is a mizuki banner, it's a limited one, so I feel like there's a bit more reason to summon. again, it's time dependent, so if I can't it's not the end of the world.

Mafuyu: MAFUYU. this card was my computer wallpaper for a period of time so it'd be a crime not to try for it. I'm trying to only get mafuyu lims/focuses as I have an abundance of her (as a mafuyu collector any mafuyu is accepted), and this one is really nice, and the hairstyle is refreshing imo.

Luka: partly out of desperation to get some of the newer virtual singer cards that release (many of the ones I have are quite dated at this point), but also this is so pretty hello?? easily one of my favorite Luka cards if not my favorite. k-drama set lessgo baby

Saying Goodbye to My Masked Self

Mafuyu: at this point I've come to accept that I automatically pull on Mafuyu focus banners, and that's been quite successful! the only mafuyu focus I still have not claimed is the intersecting melodies one (one day... one day...), so I can say that all normal rate-up banners have gone quite well. while I haven't been following the story very closely lately, I know that this event is very important for her arc, and as bittersweet as it is her trained card in this set is relieving.

Kanade: tbh her and ena are here because this is just a mafuyu focus that I will summon on, but hello they're actually pretty?? the cards in the Snow White set were mid outside of mafuyu (so basically just mizuki and rin), so I would happily pull more even if I already got Mafuyu. also. I currently only have one kanade card, and it doesn't have a costume, so I'd like to fix that.

Ena: same reasoning as Kanade (except I have a solid supply of ena cards and I just find this set pretty)

N25 World Link Event (oh boy)

Since all of these cards are fantastic (even if they're not limited (?)), I'll just come out and say that I love them all and I hope that they come home. Genuinely was at a loss for words when I first saw them and I'm very excited for the event when it comes to global.

Now, here I was thinking: man, with the Sanrio collab, I think that's a good amount of gacha for the year!

And then the new year banner came into existence. Not even kidding it has altered my plans so much, I won't go back and edit each thing as that's confusing but list them below:

Resonant Town will stay the same, I only need to do 200 pulls to spark for someone I want (as I have ten stickers, I'm assuming that's still how it works? I've never saved enough to spark lmao)

May skip Survival depending on how much I spend on the previous banner. It'll probably end up being leftovers from Resonant Town if I have any. But from here on out, it's hardcore saving time!!

Masked Persona will have to be a pull-until-Mafuyu-and-then-quit because as much as I could use a Kanade four-star, I'm hoping to get that from the World Link event. At this point, I make sure to summon on Mafuyu banners because I have all of her standard focuses, and I've been pretty lucky with not having to spend too much to get her each time (fingers crossed it stays the same).

World Link event will depend on what happens over the first ten months of the year (damn, they really had to put the best banners in the last two months of the year didn't they), but I hope to spend a bit on this one. Then again, there is the chance to get them on other N25 banners, so even if I couldn't get all of them I wouldn't be too worried.

Sanrio Collab (not pictured) is still a must!! If I have to limit the World Link event for this, then I shall! It presents the opportunity to pull for characters I don't usually want to (Saki, Airi, and Emu), so I'm looking forward to it!

New Year's Banner......all of these characters are stunning (and Mafuyu is a 3-star and an amazing one at that, literally better looking than some of the earlier four stars), so...I really don't have any words

Obviously, as the year goes on, I'll see how I feel about these sets, but I'm pretty happy that I managed I've managed to cut down on how much I want to summon (it's like a diet guys). Again, I put my thoughts down here not only because doing all of this rambling helps my thought process but also because I think it's helpful and encourages others to use it if they're unsure of what they want to pull on!! Happy New Year's, folks, I hope 2024 is a good one !!!

It's Jisung's English Composition class. He sits at the farthest back table on his own, tapping away at his laptop as the teacher discusses some concept he couldn't care less about. We had statistics together last semester, but we didn't get the chance to talk at all." 

"Oh. You remember that class?" He grimaces and rubs the back of his neck, zoning out after she nods. He suddenly remembered the presentation for the final his group had to do in that class, And he vividly remembers the hard-on he had during it. You had pulled out all your little stuff that you kept hidden in your suitcase under the bed. Your favourite fluffy blanket with Sanrio characters on it, your bottle, and all your stuffies. You also had a few diapers and onesies in there too. You grabbed out your pacifier from its little case in the lining of the suitcase. It had a teddy bear on it and said “mama’s girl” on it. You loved it. You often pretended Billie was your mama even though she wasn’t. it gave you comfort to pretend though. 

You changed into a pull-up; you weren’t sure how little you would regress but you would rather be safe then sorry. You put on a white onesie with fairies on it. You wrapped yourself up in your blanket in front of the TV on the couch and held your favourite stuffie. After watching cartoons for about an hour you started to feel tired. Your eyelids started to shut as you listened to the soft voices on the TV and sucked on your paci. Unfortunately, that meant you didn’t hear the car rolling into the driveway. Suddenly the door opened, and you jumped. Billie was standing at the door staring at the sight in front of her and you froze staring back. After a second you started to cry and Billie realised she was staring and stopped. Hearing you cry broke her heart, but she wasn’t sure whether to approach you or not. 

When Billie didn’t move you took it as a sign to leave. She didn’t want you. Why would she? Nobody wants a girlfriend who acts like a baby. You went to stand up, but Billie grabbed your arm and sat you back down. You looked at her in horrorthinking she was going to break up with you. When she saw the look in your eyes she decided to take a different approach. She pulled you into her lap on the couch and cradled you. You tensed for a second before settling into her touch as she stroked your hair.

“You’re ok pretty girl just relax. You should’ve told me love.” She whispered as she held you.

You looked up at her, your cheeks were stained from tears, eyelashes wet and hair sticking to your neck. It broke her heart to see you like this.

“I thought you would wan’ weave me” you replied.

You watched a frown form on her face. “I would never leave you baby girl. I was waiting for you to tell me. I had my suspicions that you were a little but wanted you to tell me yourself.”

You snuggled in closer to Billie. Secretly you felt bad for not telling her, but you also felt slightly embarrassed.

“It’s ok little one. Mamas here” she said as she kissed your cheek.

You looked up at her with surprise “Mama?”

As her eyes met yours, she said, “yes baby. Mama. That’s if you want me to be your mama though.”

You jumped up and gave her a big hug.

“Yes yes yes”

She smiled and cuddled you close. She was going to be the best damn mama ever. She wanted to give you the world so that’s what she would do.

"So... I get gifts?" He thought that was just like a figure of speech or something as Ran and Rindō handed him countless gifts, speed dialing their multiple assistants to get EVERYTHING birthday related.

"And a cake" Rindō said showing a Sanrio themed cake "it's ice cream and (flavor)"

(Name) looked curious as he was sat down, the Haitani brothers handing him gifts to open "next year we will have much more thoroughly planned" Ran said lovingly and (name) looked confused "but this is already so much"

"Oh darling, this is nothing compared to next years plans" Ran promised and (name) nodded as he opened gifts, a variety of things from cute stuff to luxury items and more clothes. The cats played in the bags and tissue paper as they ordered dinner, getting (name)s favorites. (Name) looked like a chipmunk as he ate, Rindō snapping some pictures with a shit eating grin and the trio enjoyed their meals "so he spent the day threatening to tell embarassing stories whenever they tried flirting?"

"Yuuup"

"You facinate me" Ran said to his boyfriend who tilted his head confused, mouth full.

"Ok" Ran said placing the cake infront of (name) and lighting the candles "ok think of a wish and blow them out-- don't tell your wish either or it wont come true"

(Name) looked contemplative before blowing out the candles and the two Haitanis looked absolutely over the moon as they snapped photos of him.

"Ok birthday boy gets the biggest slice"

Ran put the best slice on (name)s plate before filling their own plates and (name) had to admit....

He never felt this happy.

Two days later (name) noticed photos on the mantle, a picture of them on his birthday.

(Name) knew everything about everyone about Bonten but what he didnt know was just how much Ran loved sleep, the executive holding (name) close as he slept.

They were granted vacation time and Ran wanted nothing more than to sleep, (name) remembered Rindō once mentioning Ran could sleep for a full 24 hours but he didnt fully believe it till now.

Hes been awake for two hours as Ran slept, the sun was now out and he needed to pee.

"Ran..." (Name) mumbled as he struggled to get out of his Iron grip, doing everything short of hurting him from trying to pry his arms off to shimmying out to blowing at his face.

Nothing.

"Stop moving..." Ran grumbled, kissing his head to try and pacify him to go back to sleep "i need to use the restroom" (name) said as Ran cracked an eye open to look down at (name), any outsider would think he was glaring but Ran was never a morning person and it usually took a solid hour for him to be sociable "fine" Ran relented and let (name) go to the ensuite bathroom "your ass is back here after" Ran grumbled and (name) nodded, the lavender eyed man watching (name) dressed in only an oversized shirt and bare legs.

The sound of a toilet flushing and the sink running and (name) was back in Rans arms, warm and comfortable as the cats snuggled towards the end, stretched out and purring.

(Name) adored it.

He adored every second with Ran.

(Name) let Ran take him to do the things he enjoyed, manicures and going out to luxery stores and even gave him a "tour" of Roppongi-- aka Ran taking him to all the fancy places he likes.

They also did (name) hobbies like people watch, something Ran had grown fond of-- hes gotten (name) to get silly with it occasionally.

(Name) also developed new hobbies because of Ran, the two cooking together and (name) found he only enjoyed doing it if Ran was there (Ran would guide him and (name) liked it when he held his hands).

"Theres no information on him?" Sanzu was annoyed as he looked at the informant "its like he never existed at all" the man said in disbelief "there's no connections at all..."

Sanzu sighed as he called the cleaners and glanced at the dead body in his office, he was annoyed (name) had so much dirt on them and they had nothing on him. It was frustrating and made Sanzu feel on edge.

He rejected their advances and knows secrets no one should should know... How did he know about Sanzus Sandal incident?!

He was Bontens biggest weapon but could also be their greatest threat if given reason to be.

Maybe it was good that Ran got to him... Though Sanzu isn't sure what kind lf relationship he would want from (name) he knew that he wanted him and would have to be patient.

He hated being patient.

(Name) was unflinching as he got a tattoo centre back, casually sipping some Boba ran got him as a treat as the place near his penthouse was doing a Sanrio collan with hello kitty boba pearls.

"This is your first tattoo so ill give you a pamphlet on maintenance and some cream" the Tattoo artist said, one who worked under Bonten and (name) nodded "it looks great baby" Ran said as he looked at the finished tattoo "now you're really bonten" he leaned over the other man, resting his head on his shoulder and (name) offered him a sip, the elder Haitani smiling at thid and taking a sip "not bad"

No one would dare comment about how sickeningly cute the display was, two extremely dangerous people in one space was stressful enough.

(Name) found a new hobby during his vacation.

Plant keeping.

He couldn't keep them at the penthouse due to the furry beings that resided so his office became much less empty and full of plants of various shapes and sizes and because of this, his office had the cleanest air-- also helped that (name) didnt smoke.

"If you wanted information on me, hiring a second class informant is a poor choice" (name) said simply as he dropped off files to Sanzu, information about a detective that's neen digging his nose where it didnt belong. "How did you..."

"We informants all know one another, we're not friends but we app have a web so to say and its not hard to figure thus sort of thing out" (name) said simply "We all have things that others don't know, secrets that only ourselves experience and no one can take that from you, no one will known things only you experience" (name) said calmly "my life is experiences that no one living can attest to and thus you will never know these things" (name)s tone wasn't cold but it lacked emotions that made him sound almost robotic, Sanzu forgot at moments like this that... (Name) was an anigma.

the latest fashion right now? being a silly trickster

COOLEST THING HAPPENED THIS WEEK, as I finally got a chance to make something for my long-time friend @foreversleepingbunny, as bun commissioned me to design her a jester-like bunny sona

MAKING OF:

so I had a interest in designing bun a sona for good while, then recently she voiced interest in one, whose idea fit (or rather, completed) the vibe I had in mind for a design

so in response I sent her rough mspaint sketch of what I had in mind (I was busy with other comms). she really liked it!

fast forward to getting commissioned, I thought of making a small, simpler, more mascot-ish design, doing it before further working on the design sketched out prior

this helped with nailing down the "core features" of sorts, a base to build off of when working on the main design

plus since she's a big Sanrio fan, it gives bun a design that fit right in with those :>

you may noticed the horizontal stripes in the ears, I initially thought of intead of a jester hat, the ears would be wearing socks instead to keep the vibe, that idea got scrapped

I quickly sketched and lined one so to experiment with colors, it was basically a given that it would be pink, but I kept felling there was something missing, some spot I could include a additional color in (hazel-ish brown was the other iconic sugarbun color)

then I had a epiphany

you might notice the sketch for this was used in the ref, but not these, that's just cause I wasn't happy with the line consistency

ok! now we get to the main form

my first sketch turned out a very direct anthro-fication of the design, I really liked it! but it kinda drifted of the initial intention of having the jester look be more like a fashion style, rather than a full-on jester (a sentiment bun also felt)

second sketch was basically a recreation of the mspaint sketch, though you can see the influence of the small mode

then, at the third pose, i nailed it down

bringing attention to the skir (not just the pattern, but the cutout at the bottom) and the like, spacing of the white area in the shirt (being smaller)

the pose also turned out so nice that when I made a sketch to render I didn't like as much

so I just did a second take on the sketch, making it more sturdy against canvas flips

one last decision done when rendering things was making the shirt also have a hazel color, brought after experimenting with the skirt palette

Ok normally I don’t like adding a whole lot of tags to my post but I need EVERY Sanrio fan to see this because I feel like I’m going insane.

When I was little there was a Sanrio character I adored named Afro Ken. He was a brown dog with a rainbow Afro. There were variations of Afro Ken. There was also this cute little cartoon about him which included an interview with the guy who made him.

HOWEVER. I cant find ANYONES opinion on this damn dog. I know he exists because the cartoon is on YouTube, and people have old plushes/sticker sheets of him. But not only will Sanrio post nothing about Afro Ken, nobody I’ve talked to knew he existed and I can’t find anything talking about Afro Ken??? Does anyone remember Afro Ken? What were your thoughts on him? Did you like him? Pictures are included as a reference.

I don’t think Merold is like secretly evil, I think he just knows what he’s doing and knows more about seeds than everyone else , Roma probably knows just about the same as him as well but hasn’t said anything yet. Merold said it himself , he's protecting himself and his kingdom with lies ... and since he is likely very familiar with the seeds as an older knight , he likely knows how they appear etc.

Ok now to get to the main point, do you guys know about Sanrio’s lore ? Like as a company.

So basically strawberries are what Sanrio uses as a symbol, the "beginning" of Sanrio as it was their first ever original design that got them off the ground (not to b mistaken with Coro-chan , who is their first original character), but the strawberry designs live on through The Strawberry Magazine (いちご新聞) and most importantly, the Strawberry King (いちごの王さま).

I have a theory that the seeds are coming from the strawberry king (or mayb his fragaria(s), if he has one) mayb he’s going through something which is causing seeds to b able to appear , and average person/collective’s negative emotions causing them to pop up and basically destroy the world. And so "fragarians" are people given/have the power at the same or similar to the Strawberry King to at least defeat these seeds... Perhaps Strawberry King is some sort of deity in the fragmem world who knows ....

TLDR I think the strawberry king is behind this stop blaming merold bye

what is “what happens next” about if you don’t mind me asking? :)

i've been sitting on this ask for a while now because WHERE! DO I! BEGIN!!!!

ok. so. what happens next is a currently ongoing webcomic by max graves, beginning late in 2021. it is a story told in multiple chapters about multiple characters, but one could argue that its protagonist is milo holliday. milo is a trans man, pastel blogger, toy customizer... and accomplice to a murder.

one of the first panels of the comic is a screenshot of the dni page on milo's tumblr, which got me IMMEDIATELY interested in the comic because it's such a unique way of storytelling:

and we get a lot more pages like this that are screenshots of websites, social media profiles, and the like. the comic is a mixture of in-person interactions, online communication, and occasional flashbacks, all of which are important pieces of the story.

so when they were teenagers, milo's best friend griffin petty killed two people, and milo helped mutilate one of the bodies. while griffin was sent to prison, milo spent years in a psychiatric institution that stunted his emotional growth and forever altered his view of the world. a drawing he makes while institutionalized provides a window into milo's perceptions of the event:

the whole comic is an uncomfortably accurate reflection of mid-2010s tumblr culture, right down to the sanrio traumacore and crytyping. milo's suffering is multifaceted: in reference to the people harassing him online, he says "it doesn't feel like they hate me for what i did... it feels like they hate me for the way i am," referring to his being an autistic trans man. and given that many of his detractors seem to come from sites like kiwifarms (notorious for its transphobia and ableism), he isn't entirely wrong! but at the same time, his relentless depictions of himself as the victim erase his contributions to haylie's death and the ways he's made himself and others' problems worse.

not every part of the comic is about milo, though! i'm only scratching the surface of it here: all of those pages and links are for the first part, titled "dog names." in the second part, "someone else," we're introduced to gage ludemann, a gore blogger and true crime fan who has entered a long-distance relationship with griffin, and once again, screenshots are used to masterful effect:

soooo yeah!! i have SO MANY THOUGHTS about this webcomic and i keep trying to get close friends to read it, haha. i've read a lot of webcomics and i can say with certainty that there is NOTHING out there quite like what happens next. it's a story about true crime fanaticism, psychological trauma, social media presences, existing as a transgender person, and so much more. the comic is currently on its fifth part, "you'll all be sorry," which seems to be about the characters vikki escamilla and xandra blumberg. if you decide to check it out please feel free to tell me all about it! i'm not connected to the comic at all, but i really love it and i think everything about it is just fascinating.

Treydia - When did they start liking each other?

Ok, so!! Lydia has always had a (small) crush on Trey, ever since she first met him (since she thought he was handsome ♡) but she didn't really develop feelings for him until later on (after her relationship with Idia ends) On Trey's end, he also had a (small) crush on her that he didn't pursue (since she started/was dating Idia) and when that crush wouldn't go away, he realized he had developed feelings for her (and then again, he didn't pursue it since her relationship with Idia was ending/just ended)

They are literally the friends to lovers trope, and I'm not even kidding. Trey literally comforted her through her breakup while secretly having feelings for her. I can't exactly pinpoint when it happened for either of them, since it was just a gradual development that happened naturally over time ♡

(Cater: *knew about Trey's feelings for Lydia and was just waiting for them to finally become a couple* lol ♡ Also Riddle, Che'nya, Ace, Rook, and Jade knew, but they all learned/realized his feelings for her at different points)

Treydia - First Date

Lydia gets her mini golf date ♡ (For context: Lydia's always wanted to play mini golf and it became her dream date lol ♡)

Ace gives Trey the idea and it doesn't even start out as a date (as everyone from Heartslabyul goes) but Lydia thought it was a date when Trey asked her (so she was a bit awkward/disappointed when she noticed the others were there)

So Trey drags her away from the group, and they end up ditching them to do their own game of mini golf against each other ♡ (they meet back up with them later, don't worry lol ♡)

Treydia - Favorite Date

While I do think their first date is one of their favorites, here are some other dates they would consider favorites ♡

Lydia: When Trey took her to a Sanrio collab cafe ♡ (It was a surprise, and she was so happy lol ♡)

Trey: When Lydia would stop by the Science club or the Heartslabyul kitchen and spend time with him ♡ (She does this on occasion, and though they aren't proper dates, it's still one of his favorites lol ♡ She'll go to the Science club, curious to know what he's doing and listening with interest. Or she'll stop by the Heartslabyul kitchen when he's busy baking, helping him however she can ♡)

Ben would 100% be the type to accidentally confess to his crush. Would not know. Would not realize. His words go in and out of his own ears without a second thought. BUT, he would realize later on and frantically try to play it off.

Imagine big brother Eugene. powfehohgor plz... he'd be like the best older brother (at least in my mind). Need comfort for smth? Check. tried his best to understand you. Spilled smth that stains? Check. He's got you covered, already ran to the nearest drugstore or convenience store -- or maybe whatever what was in the house --and shows you a little hack he's learned one way or another. Uhh.. he'd be overprotective, but not in an overbearing way! He'd be so worried for you about everything, but also ultimately allows you to have fun and do what you want. Your happy? He's happy! He's a sweet cinnamon roll :)

Lily as a friend. best friend? (plz tell me someone remembers who she is. I love her sm). OK... so uh-- if you're ever sick and miss class. She will ALWAYS have notes ready for you to borrow. Even if it's not a really important class. She's also just a pleasant person to be around. Kind, but not a pushover. You getting picked on? Will indirectly confront them, probably just give an icy comment towards the perpetrators. But ofc, she doesn't want a physical conflict. She just wants to stand up for her friends. Might give you a pep talk abt standing up for yourself more often. OH, and other than kpop and stuff, she's 100% is into either magical girl shows or sanrio stuff. Has cute stickers on hand too.

As a HS and MS GSA survivor, you are so lucky to have never had to interact with one 😭

In most GSAs I’ve been in (like 4/5) it’s a very 2020/SJW-esque environment. This also applies to middle school and is mostly post-lockdown effects, the type of people GSA attracts and also it’s your most developing years but something about the motto of “you are valid no matter what” seems to be the interpreted as “ok no matter what my behavior is it’s ok” 😭

Some of the things I (or friends) have had to deal with is stuff like:

-being told my chosen name is a trigger because it’s also another persons deadname, therefor I can’t use it

-being HEADCANNONED as a omnisexual nb transmasc (my friend is very much a cis gay male)

-being weirdly affectionate with other teachers in school because they “act gay”

-headcannoning male teachers WITH WIVES AND CHILDREN as drag queens

-being told the way I dress is a trigger (I wore a Sanrio theme outfit to school for PJ day)

-being told the way my friend dresses is cringey and problematic (she doesn’t wear alternative stuff, she wears color block tees and jeans)

TW: slight blood mention (skip italics)

-one person sent a video of a picture of another kid covered in their period blood in the groupchat because the person liked them??

-

In general it’s a very disliked group of kids who are often struggling or are neurodivergent and no one is actually teaching them to behave socially and instead they react inappropriately and violently to others 😭 which also sucks because it ruins the reputation for neurodivergent/queer/alternative kids who don’t behave like this and get roped in with them anyways

TLDR: lockdown kids who peaked in 2020 and never lived it down

that is actually insane, and something I literally can’t even comprehend. I’m not even used to people being able to be outwardly queer like, irl, without expecting punishment, because I’m used to there being consequences for my being gay. The reason my school didn’t have a GSA was because it was a religious cult and we were regularly told we had to repent for having queer thoughts, and any kids outted as queer were straight up expelled or sent to have one on ones with a priest so they could be ‘cured’. I was sent to the priest and a theology teacher a lot, but that’s just what happens when you keep getting outted as bisexual 💔

there’s gotta be a healthy medium out there somewhere 😭

Two things that are sightly upsetting: 1. I barely remember looking through this issue when I was 12. 2. I had to pay $30 for this issue off eBay.

Unfortunately, the Tendrecils line from Lancome is discontinued. Doesn't stop me from misreading it as "tendrils" though.

Does Kate know what magazine she's reading. This was Seventeen in 1995/1996, not 'Teen. 'Teen was the girly magazine back then. I don't know about Y/M, never read that one.

A similar green pair with laces seemed to be everywhere in my magazines for a brief time in 1996. I never saw anybody wearing 'em though. Never saw them at Kinney. I don't see 'em on eBay either, Joel sold 6,000 pairs at his store in 1995, wherearethey. 1

Remember this beautiful "great" packaging Maybelline had. If I had money to throw around to collect old makeup, this would definitely be in the collection.

The fuzzy trim dress was a classic prom dress (or, at least the teen magazines made it seem that way) for the mid to late 90s.

Anna's dress is #1. I love the short sequin Hawaiian print dress. That is 1996.

There's those black and white dresses again! The Chanteuse girls will kick all of our butts.

I saw a lot more of these pastel dresses in my 1997 issues, which sadly yes, I'm trying to find on eBay right now. No luck.

I honestly had no clue that self tanner was a thing yet, or maybe just a thing that was sold at like, Saks in the glass case.

Slick straight hair. That was the thing. I had hair down to my waist back then so suffice to say I was not sporting this look

I used to get my Sanrio stuff from the My Doll and Toy Shoppe in downtown Hampton, Virginia. If you said the name of the store quick, it almost sounded like "MIDOL toy shop".

Every time I would see this ad for Kaepa shoes, naive 12 year old me thought "oh my god is that girl going to burn her school down?"

I had that lava lamp keychain and the 8 ball! I used to get them from either Claire's or Spencers. I had a Cracker Jack keychain too around this time that will just randomly show up in my dreams.

Did people really have scanners to scan in their handwriting back then? I imagine they were a small fortune back then. I tried doing some research on this software, but nothing came up.

I remember when the Backstreet Boys got real big when I was in high school, I thought back to the ad and wondered "wait, haven't they been around for a while?" In 1996, they didn't even have an album in the U.S. yet.

There's always one dress that makes me sad in the prom issues, and I think it's this one. It looks so ... mature.

-When I was attending Mary Baldwin College, there was this really cheezy store downtown that sold mostly cutesy poo gag gifts. Very cringe store. I'm sure if that store existed in 1996, they would have sold PMS Crunch.

-We're still in the waining days of the low fat craze here, so here are some "healthy" chips. Garden of Eatin' is still around! I think Guiltless Gourmet went out of business?

-I want to see photos and or footage of the Creamette Pasta Party at Tavern on the Green. All I I found was a blip on the New York Times:

On Saturday, about 17,000 carbo-loaders at the annual pre-marathon pasta party at Tavern on the Green will dig into five dishes created by New Yorkers, one from each borough. The dishes were the winners in a contest sponsored by Creamette pasta. The judges included as many weathermen (Storm Field and Mr. G) and sportswriters (David Kaplan of The Daily News) as food experts (Patrick Clark, Bob Lape and Robin Leach).

The meals, which will be served from 4:30 to 8:30 P.M., are free to runners in the New York City Marathon, which will be held on Sunday. The dishes are: baked ziti and vegetables by Martha Katzeff of the Bronx, rigatoni with beef and cheese by Mike Boyd of Brooklyn, spinach-rotini toss by Barbara Shields of Staten Island, creamy macaroni and basil salad by Karin Mackin of Queens and sweet nutmeg kugel by Diane Girer of Manhattan.
