Okay so I think Overwatch (junkrat) is rotting my brain a bit but I hear me out!

Rise headcanon: okay, so if Leo looses his arm in the krasnh fight, it’s cause the arm was too fucked up to keep post fight, right? Okay we’ll hear me out! So Leo is the main medic type character of the family? Right? He knows the most about this stuff, right? Okay well hes out, coma, brian damage, just too messed up tk think straight, whatever it doesnt matter! the point is hes out of the picture for medical advice! so his arm is innured but its minor and everyone writes ot off and does their best to takw care of if, but they dont know, they just dont know enough about this stuff, so the injury gets infected, but no one knows, theh dont know what early infection looks likw, or what all rhey need to do, or anything! and the infection gets worse adn worse and worse, until they cant do anything, theyve got to chop it off! Leo tells them they havs fo chop it off!

so now evedyone is sad cauae they thibk its their faukt hws missing an arm and leo is already all self blamey and sad so it evens out!!!

How is it already almost March omfg.

Anyways Happy Valentine's Day month!!! This year, I was swamped with work, so I didn't get a chance to make Valentine's Day art. I did make a Valentine's piece last year though.

BUT we did have beloved @magunalafay make these Valentine's Day cards this year for the community!!! <3 If you missed it, well Happy Valentine's Day!!!!!

She made these as a gift, and I love her very much. Maguna u r so talented

This month was pretty busy for me, but I'm super happy with the progress made this month ^^ I feel like I've started the year off in a pretty good groove after it being all over the place for a hot second, yay!!!

This past month, Etza and Druk's routes. With the revamped demo finishing its revisions, it left a lot more time for me to focus writing on full route development.

If you missed the announcement, I FINISHED Etza's first draft!!! YAAAYYY!!!! FINALLY!!!!!!

That means 4/6 routes are finished in terms of the base writing, which is so exciting to MEEEEE. I've always seen Etza's draft as The Milestone because with their route finished, it would mean the four Central routes are done writing. And to me, while there's a good chuck of writing left, we are nearing the end of it.

There's only two routes left and that means it's about ~100k words which is CRAZY compared to when I had ~300k to write (:cries:). Even if that sounds like a lot, once I start chipping away at those routes, that 100k goes into the "double digits" aka 90k...80k... etc. and that makes me want to pee my pants

We also finished editing Druk's route, yay!!! So we reached a lot of milestones this month ^^

We are nearing the end of the Vui background commissions. It's very bittersweet; I'm so used to mentioning him in my devlogs now </3 There's only like 3(?) more BGs left for him to make, and then all of the BGs for the game will be finished. Very Wild! I think Alaris will have 25ish BGs, and they are all Stunning.

It's been a while since I showed you all a BG, so I'll give you all a preview of one I just got in!

I personally have been doing a lot of sprite work this month to finish the final art assets for the demo. I added some expressions to Druk and Aisa that I'd been procrastinating (I don't even know why I was procrastinating them). And I finally finished Mom and Kimura's updated sprites! Patreon already saw them, but I'll show the new versions here too ^^

Aside from sprite work, much of my "art" time has been on finishing up/putting together the last of the screens for the GUI. Specifically, I got THIS BABY up and running. She is my crowning glory.

Oh my god.... You all have NO IDEA how much of a pain this was to code. There is a transparency gradient going on in the left and right B&W previews (courtesy of community programming angel feniks/shawna).

And then the effort to have the Titles and Descriptions of the Previewed Date change tilted me on Multiple Occasions. But we finally got it to work thanks to bestie @siyo-koy pointing out I just coded one stupid "if" statement wrong LJAFSLIEFJIEJ. But the effort was WORTH IT because I'm so proud of her!!! I hope you all like it too as a way to relive Free Time Dates. I had a lot of fun with the Titles and descriptions.

I also put together the Stats and Affection Screens

So I coded both of them a bit differently from each other. The Personality Screen shows you a breakdown of your traits so far. Think of it like a pie graph! So in the preview picture, your choices indicate you are 33% Brave, 16% Charismatic, etc. I felt like this was a more natural way to portray personality rather than how many bravery points you've collected so far!

And then for Affection, it works in a more traditional way, where it counts it based on how many you've gotten out of the total amount you can get. This way, as the story progresses, how close you are to the person reflects how much your relationship as developed!

I've also added little descriptions underneath each that change depending on the percentage. So for example, if you have gotten 82% of the affection points for Kuna'a, the description of your relationship might change as well hehe

Other than that, I've mainly focused on getting the demo together. We released the beta demo earlier this month (? LOL). And the feedback has been so kind!!

A lot of this month was spent polishing so that the demo can be ready for early access and eventually public release. I updated sprites, made sure music crossfades with each other so that transitions between soundtracks feel smoother, I added/polished all of the screens I needed to (e.g., Memory Room, Full Credits, Cleaning Music Room, Adding Stats Screens), and I FINALLY as of yesterday added the Voiced Lines!!

One thing I added in the Extended Demo that I'm really happy with is the use of Extended Pronouns (courtesy of Angel Feniks). Below is a preview of how it works now!

Basically, you can choose multiple pronouns for yourself, including custom pronouns (e.g., xe/xem, fae/faer, etc.). On top of that, you can choose how often you'd like the pronouns to alternate (e.g., every line versus every scene) and what kind of terms you'd like to be used for you (e.g., neutral vs. masculine vs. feminine)!

Overall, the demo is getting closer and closer to release!!! Early Access will hopefully be ready by the end of this week or next, so if you all would like access to it, please feel free to subscribe to my Patreon for this upcoming month! Available to Wyvern tier ($5) and up.

I didn't have any time to really play any games this month because I was drowning in work LMFAOSLJIEF. I did play the Threads of Bay demo by @lavendeerstudios and it was GORGEOUS! Very cute game with lovable characters and charming visuals. Andrew, I will have your number

Every other section was really long, so I'm going to throw it here even though it's not market research. But Intertwine recently hit 600 ratings, which is crazy. [BONUS CHAPTER] Battle Time!: Part 1

*Kaede's group, consisting of Ryoma, Tenko, Gonta, Lune and Nico, while on the hunt for Himiko, end up in a lab way deep underground. Surrounding them are several human-sized pods, many of which appear to be inactive.

Remind me again why we're down here?

We came down here because we heard that Koyasunaga had a private lab where he took Himiko all the time.

Himiko disappeared into the lab somewhere after Makoto and Kuripa got captured. I was hoping if we found the lab, we'd either find her, or at least, find out what HAPPENED to her while she was gone.

But uh...This somehow doesn't feel like the right place...

Yeah...Something about this room feels...off...to me. Even moreso than the rest of this freaky place...

Hm...

*Nico taps the corner of her glasses and begins to look around the room, scanning it with her matrix.

I see...These pods appear to be part of some biotic experimentation plan. Humans and animals are designed to fit inside it, but for what purpose, I don't know...

The Alpha Release - Blood CW

It wasn't the most pleasant of days today, Rose sitting upon a bench at the Wallflower as Beni squinted at the sky. Murky. Rainy. Humid in a way she wasn't exactly all that fond of. It made her knee ache, and to be perfectly fair? Her hair frizzed like crazy in this weather. Fuck humidity, it was the number one reason why brushes lived in her goddamn pack even on long expeditions. Still. She flicked another coin to Beni as she nibbled on a rice cracker. Freshly grilled senbei, as per usual. That man never put out premade food. You waited and you liked it (which to be fair, she really, REALLY did).

It was her slated day off. She had her Eevee, Sally, beside her, somehow not disliking the humidity (Rose had been wondering if she wanted to evolve, and Vaporeon was looking rather likely), and Klaus the Espurr was still being his wall-eyed self. Most people couldn't see a single thought rolling around in that fluffy head. Rose saw mischief. Endless mischief. But it was the kind that was kept to a minimum with snacks, so he had a senbei of his own. Oup, he got a few crumbs on that pink li'l face, wipe that off-- there ya go li'l guy.

"You really are a stubborn sort with them beasties..." Beni stood by the entrance as usual, looking her over quietly as she wiped Klaus' cheeks off, gaining a faint squeak of dismay before he went back to munching away at his rice cracker. "Practically no fear of 'em, even with what they did to you."

Rose peered up for a moment, only to shrug. "It's not really a lack of fear, it's a respect." That got Beni to put a hand to his chin, eyeing her with a squint, but her response was to smirk. "Klaus here? He nearly crashed a window just hatching. And c'mon, you said it. I nearly lost a leg. But it's not because I don't fear 'em. It's 'cause I know you need to give them the respect that they deserve. A battle if they ask or show off, a snack if they seem like they're desperate. Sometimes it's really just as easy as a level tone and to show 'em who's boss or give 'em the space they wanna have."

"Hah. Like ya did with them bandit girls? Funny thing about 'em. They all used to work out here with us common folk. But there was somethin' about 'em that just made it clear honest work just wasn't in the dice." Rose snorted slightly, nodding before eyeing the older fellow with a snide smirk.

"Aaah, a gambling man. Ain't you fulla surprises."

"A long time ago, perhaps. Game houses were aplenty back where I came from. Liked to frequent 'em for a certain kinda folk. Made a lotta money back then." He grinned a bit wider. "Makin' a better livin' here, though. Stable. Feels good to put down some roots."

"... was that a joke?" Rose leaned forward with a skewed squint, side-eyeing him with an exaggerated lean, only for Beni to whistle idly off to the side, hands behind his back in his usual stance. He wasn't admitting to a thing, connoisseur of a certain soot-themed seasoning that he was. Rose laughed gently before standing herself up, having finished her senbei. Klaus got lifted up into her arm, and a tap to her shoulder had Sally hop right up with a gentle "Vui~", and she promptly plopped up on top of her head with a blep to feel the rain a bit better. As she spoke, Rose began tapping idly on her Arcphone, amused as she was. Her mood was a bit better now, at least. "Ah well. Thanks for the snack, Beni. See ya tomo--"

Crash!!

Over by the battle arena, loud as could be, a slam of the door to the Training Dojo snapped it right off its rail, crackling to the ground of the leveled dirt in front of it. Zisu, having been assisting by the front gate in making sure a new shipment for the Ginkgo Guild arrived safely, felt her head swivel in turn. But Rose was already on the move, dashing right over with Sally held by one hand and Klaus the other. And what she found was not what anyone was expecting.

With a roar of furious frenzy, out had burst... a Hisuian Zorua?! And not just any of its kind, one that stood tall enough to come up to Rose's chest! It was an Alpha! One that was clearly extremely nonplussed about not being in the snowy environment it typically called home, looking around with a frantic growl. Stumbling out with a nasty bruise on his face and a rather visible line of three gashes, perfectly emulating a slash upon his leg? A member of the Security Corps, pulling out a Pokéball from his side. "G-get back in your--"

The Zorua swiveled. And almost immediately as the line to recall them into the Ultra Ball that they had been put within before shot out, they slipped right into the shadows cast by the overcast, rainy sky above. It took a few moments of the man struggling to conceive of what was going on, having missed as he did... before Rose shoved him.

It was just in time. A slash of dark, ghostly energy came right out from a deepening shadow along the ground, and it narrowly missed the man thanks to Rose's timely intervention.

It did not miss her.

A clean, horridly painful slice, cleaving upwards from the shadow, cleared the distance from the ground to her left arm, as the right was holding Klaus. And the purple energy ebbed into crimson splotches on the ground very soon after. Rose let out a shout of pain as her teeth grit, and her stagger back put distance between her and the enraged Zorua. Sally squeaked out frantically in worry over Rose, who now had a viciously mangled arm, and Klaus hovered himself down onto the ground soon after with a grit of his own fangs, covered in a psychic energy to try and defend her. A screen of transparent energy came right up in front of the trio as Rose panted heavily.

The blood dripped from her arm, the same three gashes along it's length that the Security Corps member was dealing with on his leg, with the Alpha staring her down with a growl. A deep one. Those eyes were flaring red, flashing along the gold normally along the pupils. Its reddened fur flowed like wisps of ghostly energy, warping and flaring in anger. And Rose could note something very unpleasant about that energy: it was cold. It was spiteful. It could freeze a man to the bone if it came into contact with skin. Bitter and malicious. Proof positive that Pokémon were dangerous, and could kill at a moment's notice.

Zisu came charging up, Pokéball up and at the ready, but Rose immediately barked out an order. "Stay back! Let me handle this!" Her voice raising made the Zorua snarl out a bit of a more rapid growl, a deep gekker of a threat.

"It's an Alpha and I see that wound, soldier, I'm not--" Rose lifted her good arm, holding up a finger to the woman as she bristled.

"I swear to G-- Sinnoh, STAY BACK!" Rose's eyes were on the Zorua's. She saw those raised hackles. That flaring energy. "Everyone, wide berth, NOW!" Even as the blood trickled down her arm, coating her sleeve and dribbling down onto the ground from the rain still spitting from the sky, she did not break her stance. This was nothing. Her leg had handled worse. She had gotten a cut like this before. Maybe not this severe, but she'd deal.

Very slowly, she looked at the Security Corps member. "The ball. Toss it very gently to me. Now." Her eyes flicked back to the Zorua, massive as it was. It wasn't moving. It was watching every single one of the humans surrounding it. However, it's attention immediately shifted to the ball once it heard it bounce onto the ground, and Rose caught something very keen on that face.

It's eyes widened. Its teeth bared far sharper. But that fur flared even more, both with energy and with an emotion she wasn't expecting an Alpha to display: fear. She had planned on recalling it quickly. Getting it into its ball quietly and easily, and then laying INTO this man for having a Pokémon he could not feasibly control! But that reaction...

The Zorua was not handled with any care at all. It was not angrily lashing out. It was not acting out of pure malice or any bitter resentment, at least not intentionally. This massive creature was an Alpha that was afraid of them. It was defensive. It was acting out, lashing at its captors, because it had no idea what was going on. All it saw were humans. Humans that had forced it into a ball, locked it down, and only deigned to release it in one of their closed off buildings. Without properly preparing a wild Pokémon for that, especially one here in Hisui's much more combative wilds? Of course it would attack! It felt cornered!

She shifted very slowly, and very carefully towards the ball, as it had come to a rolling stop a foot away from her. That Zorua watched her very keenly. Its body flared again, ready to attack. Ready to kill if it had to. A standoff as Rose's foot, covered in a boot for this type of weather, lightly brushed against the Ultra Ball.

She rose her foot. The Zorua growled. She set it on the ball. The humans mused with concern. The Zorua bristled.

She stomped.

The ball shattered.

Everyone went silent. The Zorua physically winced at the sound, the shadow underneath of them darkening... before they saw what she had done. It stared at the cracked ball with its mouth open in faint shock, and a squeak, far smaller than it should've been, escaped the near four-foot tall creature. It looked at Rose with confusion writ on its face. And she began to step back, lightly snapping a finger. Klaus caught the wordless command and began to follow her backwards, his body still glowing noticeably, but she was giving the Zorua even more space. "Clear a path."

"Rose, are you really all that sure we should just let it go after what it did?!" Beni stood off to the side, but his voice rang out, Zisu nodding.

"Agreed. Alphas like this are dangerous, it needs to be brought to heel, especially after when it hurt not just one of my guys, but you, too!"

Rose stared off into space for a few seconds, only to look back at them with visible anger. "And did anyone think to pay attention to the fear displays they're showing? A Pokémon does not growl when it's trying to kill a prey. It growls when it's angry or afraid, and it wants out of that situation as fast as possible." Her eyes flicked to the man who tossed her the ball, and he shrank under her gaze, especially with the blood still dripping from her arm. She pulled off her jacket, beginning to wrap it steadily and slowly around the arm to apply some pressure before she sighed out with a near growl of her own. "You don't fucking blame a human kid for lashing out at something when they've been kidnapped, do you?!"

Silence reigned.

"I didn't fucking think so. Clear. A. Path."

They listened. Rose gently began stepping back, eyeing the Zorua. And with a gentle motion towards her, she began descending the small stair-laden hill to the main street of Jubilife. The fox watched her for a few longer seconds, eyeing the others... before beginning to very slowly follow.

Five agonizingly long minutes. It took five minutes that felt closer to five hours for some, but eventually, she reached the gate to Jubilife with the large, Alpha Pokémon. And eventually, she stepped to the side, motioning to the open gate.

They locked eyes for a moment. She nodded, her gaze trying its best to soften. Though she was rapidly growing dizzy from the blood loss, she needed to make sure this one would be okay. After a tense silence... it took the offer, and shot right into the shadows soon after, darting clear of the gates to the terror of the guardsman at the entrance.

But not before stopping, taking one more look at Rose as she began to collapse onto her knees, shifting into a sitting position with a heavy pant.

Only then did it finally leave, allowing the alerted Medical Corps doctor to collect Rose and begin helping as she stared at the ground with a furrowed brow.

im actually gonna give normans husband hieu phan the spotlight for a change. he'll get more time in it when part 5 comes out, but these will still be great to scratch my brain a little on him since theres only so much i can fit in the story.

hieus a family man! he regularly visits his family (they more or less followed him to tenor valley when he relocated there)- both his parents are around, he has an older brother (liêm) and a niece (vui). he doesnt have kids of his own, hes more interested in being an uncle than a dad, but hes very tight-knit with his loved ones.

hieu's also the kind of guy whod give you the shirt off his back. he's a helper. respect your elders and help your neighbors kinda guy. hes a 'freelance electrician', but hes done a lot of work for people on a sliding scale or for free. his morals are just. be decent to people!

on the note of his job, he LOVES what he does. electronics delight him and hes dabbled in aspects of vehicle repair, etc. etc. hes a handyman! his expertise is in tv repair and replacing sockets.

ok wildcard time for hieu! what relationship in his life is healthiest? oh for sure with norman. theyve been married over a decade by the time dead meats taking place, and while theyve had their ups and downs (more downs recently due to Circumstances), the two of them are crazy about each other. fun fact: norman loves that hieus a bigger guy. we'll get to see how they met and some other stuff in part 5, so look forward to it!

I thought a lot while I was writing the last line because I know the result will be like this. However, I believed that it is the right time since we had been on and off for the last few days with the same prb. Anyway, I will find the right path by myself instead. Clinic Day 2 (7/8) || Michelle Pham (UCSD)

Here is to the second day of clinic in Soc Trang! Today, I was assigned to be at the dental station, but Clinic Day 1 definitely taught me how to be flexible during clinic. Throughout the day, you would either find me at dental, pharmacy, or helping out with crowd control! It was yet another hectic clinic day but nonetheless fulfilling and rewarding.

I had previously drawn a headshot of ‘Born Girl Ashley’ in my drawing of various different alternate Ashley’s meeting, and wanted to draw a full body image of her. 

Just like the canon Ash, this Ashley grew up with her mom in Pallet Town, where she developed an intense love of Pokemon. Both she and Gary were close friends, with a relationship that developed more into an almost ‘brother and sisterly’ type of feel. The two of them would frequently get into all sorts of shenanigans.

Ashley was also very close to her mother, and even seemed to inherit her mother’s love of fashion, along with a lot of the clothing her mother still kept from when she was a young girl herself. Like canon Ash, she too would desire to one day become a Pokemon trainer and to make her mark in the world. 

Ashley, though similar to Ash, tends to come off as a bit more ‘showy’, with a love of putting flair and theatrics into the things she does. She’s the type of person to put things like stickers on her Pokeballs and Pokedex, or even pose when she’s being dramatic. A natural showoff who can be unpredictable in what she does, but also can lead to moments of accidental self-sabotage as she starts out her life as a trainer, going for some more flashy results that may end up being more detrimental than helpful in battle.

Like Ash, Ashley also ended up oversleeping the day she would get her first Pokemon, and the only Pokemon that Oak would have available was an Eevee, of which Ashley gladly accepted. 

Eevee, who Ashley has simply taken to naming ‘Vui’, is rather laid back, but is prone to being quite mischievous and opportunistic when the situation calls for it. He initially wasn’t too fond of being owned by Ashley, but once she started to brush and pamper him, he couldn’t help but feel a bit more inclined to go with it.

- She Rides (https://youtu.be/x3-Y1jaddbo)  and Her Black Wings (https://youtu.be/vk-4LmK6_S4)  by Danzig make me think of a younger beloved doing a striptease for old man Terry!!! <3 I can see Terry having a particularly rough day at the dojo, and beloved noticing his sour mood the minute he’s home. The idea of a striptease makes its way into beloved’s head, and they’re quick to tell Terry about a surprise that’s in store for him. While racing up the stairs, they tell Terry to stay put. Once changed into some extravagant lingerie that Terry had purchased for them, beloved gets these songs ready to play. After a few minutes of beloved’s absence, Terry has a feeling beloved is up to something. Before he can investigate, beloved has these songs reverberating throughout the house and is about to put on the performance of a lifetime for old man Terry. By the time the songs are over, Terry’s forgotten about the cause of his stressful day. 

- When the Music’s Over (https://youtu.be/nOJSmXSFCWk ) and Waiting for the Sun (https://youtu.be/VUI-ELCdjxo ) make me think of drunk beloved and old man Terry. I’m picturing it being a Friday night, where Terry just got done with training at the dojo, and beloved has some lavish charcuterie board display with a generous serving of wine waiting for Terry. Beloved’s already taken the liberty of connecting their music to the house speakers, with The Doors echoing throughout the kitchen and foyer. While Terry can hear the music upon entering the house, he’s pleasantly surprised by beloved’s gesture of relaxed date night at home. One glass of wine turns into three, and soon after the couple find themselves getting another bottle from downstairs. I imagine various Doors songs are playing throughout the night, while the two converse about anything and everything. When beloved and old man Terry are reasonably drunk, I feel like these songs would segway into the couple wanting to drunkenly dance with one another. I picture a wobbly beloved standing up and extending her hand to Terry, who’s confused for a brief second. She tugs on Terry’s hand and the two practically fall backwards, but catch themselves and are too drunk to do anything besides laugh it off. These songs feel like the perfect nightcap, where beloved and Terry can lazily sway in each other’s embrace.  

- I have to include a funny scenario because I cannot stop picturing it! I Don’t Want To Know (https://youtu.be/-V8RrL_TJ68 ) by Fleetwood Mac, TOTALLY gives the impression of Terry engaging in some illegal or unethical dealings, and then just panning to an unsuspecting and unaware beloved. Like old man Terry being absolutely unhinged, and then just seeing beloved at home doing something so completely opposite, like reading a book on the couch or watching a makeup tutorial on YouTube😭😂

Devlog #29 | 03.27.23

Hi everyone!

April is almost here, which terrifies me since the year is going by so fast. Before I get into game updates, I wanted to share a bit of a (somewhat) personal one.

This month, progress on Alaris was overall a bit slow---or at least, slower than usual. I noticed this month I was struggling a lot with working on basically anything, whether it was for school, work, Alaris, or just taking care of myself. And I realized basically a year late that I was feeling extremely burnt out.

For those who have been following Alaris for a long time, you may know that early 2022, I was struggling with a lot of personal circumstances. I had taken a week off back then to "take time for myself," but in actuality, I had continued working on Alaris and other things because sometimes when I have too much time on my hands, it's worse for my mental health. This was a recurring theme for basically all of 2022. Even during the holiday breaks (e.g., summer, November, December, etc.), I continued working on Alaris, partly because I love the project, partly because it helps me cope with irl things.

This past month, I think the break that I've desperately needed since the start of 2022 made itself Very Apparent and made progress slow on my end. I'm very sorry if the update this month is disappointing because of that! I tried to take a break this past week and am feeling a bit better now, so hopefully, things start to get back on track this upcoming month <3 With that, I'll get into actual updates!

Writing

I'm not going to lie to you all; writing was Slow this month LOL. Basically, the entire writing team got taken out by some sickness or another. I would say for 2-3 weeks of the month, there was no progress on editing or writing at all since everyone was sick at the same time <\3 We are starting to pick things back up, but please send your best wishes to the writing team since they were Going Through It this month!! Also, if you got sick this month and got whatever has been going around globally, I hope you are feeling better as well <333

I did update a good amount of the demo script---just rewriting things since my writing style has changed a little. Small things, but hopefully enjoyable changes nonetheless!

Art

As always, we have continued to make progress on BG art. This month, Vui finished the River BG and the Forest BG, both of which appear in Chapter 2 of the demo. We actually only have one more BG to finish, which is the Flower Field, and all the BGs for the demo will be complete (ahh!!!). It's been about 5 (?) months in the making to revamp all the BGs for the demo, but we are finally reaching the finish line, and everything is slowly getting ready for a revamped demo release ^^

I also have a preview of the GUI for you all! There will be some small changes, like colors, before the final version. But a little crumb to feed you all since I didn't make much progress this month

I also mentioned in the last devlog how I might update the personality icons for Alaris, which were completed this month by the same item artist who did the affection point icons!

The overall vision for this was little potions to build on the "magical" setting of Alaris. I think they're much easier to differentiate and so cute <3

My focus was more on demo art assets for this month, so I finished up the individual CGs for each of the LI's introductions.

I also started updating the sprites a bit---mostly small touches so the art looks a bit more cohesive since my style has changed a bit since the demo first came out. Aisa and Kuna'a are receiving outfit changes so that their clothing stands out from Central gang and looks more cohesive with the aesthetic that will be used for Fae.

Additional Notes

Something else I got to work on this month was finally reviewing the demo voiced lines in full. I hope you all are EXCITED to listen to them in the updated demo! A lot of the lines had me giggling (heehee!). I can't wait to see everything together once it's coded into the game ^^

I also opened applications for playtesters. They close at the end of this month, aka in a couple of days. So if you are interested, please don't forget to submit an application! Thank you already to everyone who has submitted something. The response was more than I expected, so as always, I appreciate the support you all provide wah <3

Lastly, I actually got to do some "market research" this month (yay!). I finished up Piofiore finally.

Hello! Here’s another collection of anon ask answers all put together in one big post.

This might be strange considering how upbeat yall are about the fandoms for your games in general, but is there any particular trope or ship you WOULDN'T want us writing/drawing/etc. in relation to your stuff? (IE, any canon you don't want us 'overwriting' or something like that?)

Of course we would want the fan content people make to not be racist, sexist, homophobic, bigoted, harmful, etc. But in terms of generally doing non-canon pairings or adding in headcanons or stuff, we really don’t mind that. People are welcome to have fun and explore their own ideas.

for the 1.2 Android update was it meant to download as a  separate app? I really want to keep my previous save files but they don't show up (also thank u for the updates I'm really excited to get back into the game!!)

We had to change the name of the file and unfortunately for some phones that meant it’s treated as a brand new game. I’m sorry your saves didn’t transfer over to the new version. You can try to look up your specific phone and see if there’s a way to access save files for games on your device and then transfer those saves over to the new build manually. It may or may not be possible.

I'm having some trouble figuring out how to get the update from Itichio without losing my save files? Is it the same game or a folder I can put in the properties? Sorry if this question is not worded well or if this isn't the avenue you'd want to take technical questions on

Hey. I really loved playing our life. It was a fun experience and I never thought I would like it this much. I do have a question, I am currently replaying the game and I am choosing choices I never chose at first. In step 2 during the road trip arc, I decided to ask Cove about what he liked to see on people. One of his response was anklets and black eyes. My MC have just happens to have black eyes. Do Cove say black eyes cuz my mc have it or it was just a coincidently programmed into the game?

He uses your eye color intentionally! If you changed your eye color he’d change what he said.

Will step 4 have 10 moments like steps 1-3? 

Step 4 is only an epilogue. It plays like the openings/endings of the earlier Steps where it’s a bunch of scenes all in a row, there aren’t any individual Moments.

In the new ol, there are two main love interests... Would it be possible to pair them together or is that weird? 

You can’t stay single and pair them together. If we are going to add all the extra content to have a route where the two LIs get together, it’d be a full poly route where them and the MC were all dating. And that’s not a for sure option yet because it’d add a lot of extra complications. But either way, in OL the relationships all gotta be about the MC, haha.

In OL2, there will be extra LIs in form of DLCs? Like Dexter and Baxter. 

Maybe! We’ll see how it goes.

Since Cove will have 2 diff body types in s4, will the storyline and dialogs reflect this? Or all of it will be the same? Btw love the game and sorry for bad english. Hope this doesn't sound rude 😅 

Some descriptions and pieces of dialog will change, but it won’t impact the story really. And you don’t need to apologize! It’s all good.

Will you ever release the transparent sprites of the Our Life characters? 

Probably not, I’m afraid. They’ve got a lot of pieces and it’d just be kind of hard to deal with, aha.

Something I was curious about, what was your inspiration for making a game with so much customization?

Initially, the idea was just about having a romance where you actually grew up with the LI. But it was pretty stressful to try deciding how fast the relationship would progress with it taking place over such a long period of time and with no real storyline carrying it. People might not wanna play a game where the characters don’t get along as kids, but other people might not bother with a game where kids immediately liked each other. So the obvious answer came, just let the player pick themselves how it goes. From there we simply continued to add more flexibly with the MC due to the same thought process of wanting to make sure people were onboard with how their life was going.

What made you decide to change the artstyle for ol 2 so much? I of course respect all your decisions and will buy the shit out of everything related to ol 2, but i love the original style and i m honestly not a fan of the styles shown on patreon, despite me liking the painterly style in general. (I don t mind the style being changed, just that the examples shown so far all feel like there s something wrong with them.) 

We’ve always used different art styles for each of our projects. They all have distinct looks from each other. It’s just nice to do something new. I’m glad you really like how the first game looks, though. And those samples were only general concepts, rather than the exact options being decided between. We wanted to see reactions to different options. The art style we’re going with won’t be exactly like those, though I personally like all of them. I think players are gonna enjoy the style Our Life: Now & Forever when it’s revealed.

Hey! Is it ok to ask what gender ourlife2 protagonist will be and if we'll be given the same opportunity to customize an MC? Totally understand if you're keeping this under wraps for now if u don't wanna say! 

OL2 will have the same type of MC customization as OL1, but even more refined! So their gender will be up to you.

Hi! I happened upon Our Life on Steam by pure chance. It is such a great game, I am super excited about the DLC, and I just want you all to know that you are awesome! :D I have a question, and I'm sorry if it's been asked before. Do you have plans of making more games similar to Our Life, with customizable player character? The customizable player character was probably the one thing I personally have been desperate for in romance VNs. So glad there finally is one and would love to see more.

Thank you! And yep, we do have plans for more games like Our Life, most notably is another game in the franchise- Our Life: Now & Forever. We’ll also likely have other, non-OL, games with customizable MCs, though we may still have some games with set MCs in the future as well.

Yeah, you can still choose not to go that far. Though the event is shorter if you pass on the 18+ stuff.

At the beginning of Step 2, did Cove end up accidentally falling asleep in your bed? Or did he fall asleep on the floor? 

He fell asleep sitting on the floor with his body/head leaning against the side of the bed.

This may seem like a weird question, but what exactly is the difference between "direct" and "relaxed" on the comfort scale?

Direct is blunter and more teasing, relaxed is lighthearted and goes with the flow.

can the MC have tattoos in step 3? 

Not in Step 3, but you can in Step 4.

how would Cove react if he visited somewhere like North Carolina in winter where it can get in the 20s(F) at night sometimes? 

He would be shocked and unprepared for what serious coldness is really like, haha. The poor beach baby would wanna go home.

Step 4 will have the Cove Wedding DLC and the Derek and Baxter romance DLCs each add a lot of new content to Step 4, though they’re also partially set in Step 2 and Step 3 respectively. The NSFW DLC happens in Cove’s room.

I keep wondering what would've happened if Mr. Holden met Lizzie first instead of the MC. I can't see that turning out well somehow lol. 

It wouldn’t have made a difference. He met the MC’s parents first and they told him about their two kids. He wanted the MC specifically to be Cove’s friend because the two were the same age.

Even though we have a way to go I'm really excited for OL 2! I was curious though, is the next main character going to be adopted again? I thought it was really clever to make the first main character adopted so when players are customizing,  they can make them look how ever they like without worrying about pesky genetics. Just wondering! 

The OL2 MC is not adopted. We wanted to go for a new dynamic. Instead their parents are their biological single mother who is partially customizable and an off-screen sperm donor father. So the mom will look generally like the MC and any other traits not from her can be assumed to come from whoever the father was.

I’m really happy because Soljiwan have been together long enough to have courage and ambition to speak out there feeling for each other and become lover.

What if they choose two different paths, they’ve seperated since high school or college, for example. Because Sol also intended to study abroad to avoid her feelings for Jiwan. So indeed if that happened, they would probably miss each other.

Like the way I did to avoid my feelings for my best friend. I had strange feelings for my best friend from middle school years like Sol and Jiwan. But I was so young then, I didn't know what that meant.

When we were in high school, I finally understood it. but like Sol, I was afraid that speaking out would ruin our friendship. because she actually fcking straight, she never feels for me like the way I do for her. Or maybe that what I afraided of at that ages….

So I actually avoided it, I took a different class from her, and chose to keep my distance, no longer doing intimate actions and gestures. And stopped been around her all the time. I’m just like a coward. I think I killed my love for here before it was big enough to speak out. I dodged and denied it… bc I know she would be refuse it.

And that's real life. By now, my love for her has also lessened a lot. We are now each at one end of the country. still talk to each other. and she will still be my best unrequited first love. though she will never know it.

Jiwan really reminds me of her. She always makes me feel like I want to protecting her and take care of her. And Sol also reminds me of myself from that year, having the curse of falling in love with a straight girl and also a best friend. Unfortunately my ambition is not big enough, and neither is my courage….

This is the last time I write for our two precious characters as well as actresses played them.

Thank you for giving us such pure love. Everything, the story, the action, the eyes or every line is amazing.

Soljiwan really makes us feel that there is a strong and eternal love between them. they really helped many girls have more courage to hold the hand of the person they love. as well as put a historical mark in the K drama industry for later girl love drama.

I feel like Ho Jung and Seo ah were really born for the role of Soljiwan. The chemistry between them really made their brief screentimes more memorable than ever. They make us deeply into their story and feel close, empathetic. and sometimes see our own image in it.

Soljiwan will always be my two favorite characters, not only because of their love for each other but also because of the way they keep together. The thing is, few have the courage to do it. They make me feel love is love, the only thing you need to worry about is whether your love will leave you or not, not how people will look at you two.

Seo ah as Jiwan, is really a talented and promising actress. Althought, she is newbie, and quite young, but what she shows is not like that. She really brings out her character's charm. A girl that everyone wants to cherish and protect. I really hope she will have more opportunities in the future. and I will definitely support her.

Ho Jung as Sol, this is definitely a milestone for her. when her recognition after Nevethless was greatly enhanced. everyone can clearly see her actor talent, not just the model. Hojung is currently working at YGplus, so she will have many new projects and products in the near future. I really look forward to her new project, and hope one day she’ll have a main role in a movie or drama worthy for her ability.

Năm mình học cấp 1, mình nhớ bố hay đi chiếc xe đạp cũ, xe chẳng buồn có giỏ, không chân chống, yên xe thì được bố bỏ cái bìa kê lên cho êm. Lên cấp 2, bố đi làm xa, không còn đèo mình nữa. Nhớ hôm trời mưa, bố vác về 1 thùng mì tôm rồi bảo: “Từ mai có mì tôm ăn rồi, không phải xin sắn ăn sáng nữa mấy đứa”. Mình và thằng em vui lắm. Hơn 10 năm trước, với bọn mình, được ăn mì tôm là 1 điều gì đó xa xỉ. Mãi sau mới biết đó là công tối tối bốc vác của bố ở quán hàng tạp hóa trong 1 tháng. Những ngày ôn thi cuối cấp 3, nóng chảy mồ hôi, hay lạnh tê người vẫn cứ chùm chăn rồi nhét sách vào trong, lấy cái đèn pin nhỏ của bố rồi học vì sợ ma. Tưởng bố không biết, ấy vậy mà bố lại là người tắt đèn cho mình mỗi đêm. 4 năm học Đại học đến giờ, nhiều lúc bật khóc mà nghĩ lại không biết bố mẹ đã làm cách nào mà có tiền gửi cho mình hàng tháng. Mỗi lần đi học về quê, lại thấy bố già đi, gầy đi, tay gân nổi rõ rệt. Mình cũng không nhớ nổi bố không ăn được thịt nạc từ lúc nào! Mấy lần về, làm con gà bố chỉ ăn được vài 3 miếng, rồi lại gói ghém bỏ túi để con mang đi Hà Nội, sợ con đói. Lúc đó, mình chỉ muốn học thật nhanh ra đi làm và tháng lương đầu tiên là 1 bộ quần áo thật đẹp, nấu cho bố thật nhiều món ngon để bố khoe và tự hào với làng xóm. Rồi vậy mà... Bố chẳng đợi được! Sau này, cho dù có thể sống lâu đến khi nào đi chăng nữa, những tháng năm có 1 gia đình trọn vẹn vẫn là quãng thời gian dài nhất trong cuộc đời mình... — When I was in primary school, my dad used to travel by an old bicycle – no front basket, no kickstand, and a cardboard placed on the rock-hard seat for me to feel comfier. Then my secondary school time began, he had to work farther, so he could no longer take me on a bike ride to school. That was a rainy day when he brought back home a wholesale package of instant noodle. “You guys can eat noodle from tomorrow, no need to ask for some cassava every morning anymore.” That day was a happy day for me and my little brother. For us 10 years ago, eating instant noodle was such a luxury, and we could only realize after a long time later that it took my dad one month working as a porter in a small grocery store every night for our very own happiness. A few years later, during prep time in the end of my high school, no matter how hot or cold the weather was, I’d just hide under the blanket with books inside, and use my dad’s little torch to cram during nights, just because of my fear for ghosts. I thought he didn’t know, but it was my dad who turned off the torch in my sleeping hands every single night. I’ve lost track of counting how many times I burst out crying from the day I left home to study at university. Sometimes, they were for not understanding how my parents could have managed to send me money every single month. Each time I came back home, he always seemed older and thinner, with the hands became more sinewy. And I can’t think of since when my dad couldn’t chew meat unless they were so limp! He was all about our family. Whenever I came back home from Hanoi, he’d take the best chicken out from our tiny farm to make a feast for me, and only eat a few bites to save the rest for me. He was always worrying that I was hungry. At those moments, I just wanna finish my study as soon as possible, find a job then earn the first month salary to buy him the best suit, to cook for him more and more delicious food so that he could boast with the neighbour about his little daughter. Unfortunately… he couldn’t wait until that moment! As time goes by, no matter how long I can live in this world, the moments of a complete family, with him, are always the best time of my entire life…
