Okay so while I do art there's only so much my chronic pain ridden hands can produce and so animatics/animations aren't really in my wheelhouse BUT I have a bunch of ideas and songs that the Ninjago fandom should use + some ideas that yall can totally use (@ me or send them to me though if you do cause I want to see them)

Always Gold-Radical Face: Is literally a perfect song for Wu and Garmadon, like it's literally about two opposite brothers treading wildly different paths like what more could you want

Brutus- The Buttress: Yall please I am begging that someone does something with this song relating to Morro's hatred/jealousy towards Lloyd because this song is absolutely perfect for it! Lines such as "-and if you want I'll call you king but why do I lie awake each night thinking "instead of you it should be me"" and "Please know my actions are not motivated only by envy, I to have a destiny" there are so many more but I'll let yall do the rest of the work (Also you could kinda do it with Wu and Garmadon but ehhhh)

Human Enough- ONR: This could work for multiple of the characters if you ask me but if you ship anyone with Zane or Pixal the song could totally work those two them specifically cause it talks about the singers partner/love interest being "made perfect" and idk we need more Pixal content soooo. Honestly any of the characters that get de-human-ed (for longer than one episode) would do great with this song, like Cole in his ghost arc, Nya after Seabound or Garmadon at like any point in the story. Line examples: "Cause you are made of perfect stars and I was built from broken parts" and "I'm not human enough to love yo right now/ I'm not human enough to cry or cry for" are my personal favorites.

Laplace's Angel (Hurt People? Hurt People!)-Will Wood: Lloyd, Sora or Wu (Specifically the young version of him from the Spinjitzu Brothers books) song about the weight of the world being on your shoulders and not knowing what to do and like the consequences of actions and fun stuff like that

Easier- Crane Wives: Misako, like seriously so many Crane Wives songs work well for this woman because A) her whole attempt to change destiny or B) Her failure as a mother and you know the whole kinda cheating on her husband thing, but this one specifically cause it's a song about leaving someone behind and feeling bad while also not being able to stay. Lyrics such as "If you woke and I was gone from the house that we made our home would it bend yo, break you, overtake your heart?" and "I won't move but I can't stay here. So what the hell am I supposed to do?" and "If I were someone else, would this be easier?"

Stranglers Fig- This could definitely be a Cole (specifically relating to his father and dance backstory) or Kai song, many of the lyrics involve someone being pushed to do more and more and finally snapping because they've done everything they can and there's nothing left but their desire to be better. Lyrics "You bult your kingdom around me, now I'm trapped within your walls and all I want is to be free" and "Climb me to the canopy, higher, higher 'till there's nothing left of me." and "You're the culprit so don't blame me."

📓 tell me about Temeraire fanfiction!

Ok so first i’m very [flailing hands, excited noises] about getting an ask! Second, I’m so so Sorry for being slow to answer. And third i also realized I have l less fic thought out than it feels like, its mostly little loose details and questions rattling around…

I have recently been thinking about something that would be Very outsider pov: a series of conversations that is basically different distant acquaintances discussing/reacting to news about laurence. Just some scenes with different people at different times during the story (or alternatively, different people reacting to the same thing?). Thoughts so far:

- the crew of the Reliant - some seaman later serving on a different ship and telling others about how he was there at temeraire’s hatching and confidently sharing his “expertise” about dragons. Or just something like:

”How come you are so unafraid(?) of dragons, mr ——?”

”I was on the reliant, sir, when temeraire hatched. And himself was polite as any could want and even saved —— when he went over in a storm. He never woulda et none of us sir.” (Spose theres some sense to it, captain laurence had everybody mind their manners. Us and the officers too. Made sure the little gentlemen understood the ship and didnt abuse us for no good reason)

- some of the correspondence that laurence is pretty good at remembering when things are only a little bit crazy. My family is well, as is [some mutual friend] who I was happy to catch last month at a Dinner. Now I must Ask, what Pray Tell is this I Hear about you having been Made a Prince?? ….something something

- some of the abolitionist politicians talking to each other like “so have you heard the classified part of what went down in brazil?” I feel they would be interestingly conflicted about it since it is a win towards stopping slavery, but they probably had a different vision for how they thought that should happen and they also probably didnt want portugal weakened at that time so… Also: “That’s our friend’s chaos son doing things again. Should we send him congratulation or condolences? Or perhaps just never mention it?” “Never mentioning it would likely be best I think.”

Something i have managed more specific thoughts about is actually animatics. I barely know anything about making any kind of video, but i have two ideas that will not let me go to such a degree that i have detailed notes for one of them and a full storyboard for the other. Actually the reason i started making Temeraire fanart beyond little margin doodles is because i needed to figure out the characters for these animatics.

The song i have a storyboard for is The trial of Lancelot by Heather Dale. Not every line fits perfectly, but a lot of it goes very well with Laurence's own trial.

The other one would be mostly pre canon Laurence set to How far i'll go from Moana. (It works ok)

I realize that while i love pretty much every character in the series Laurence is the one im most focused on. I think its partly because empathy is something i have to do very much On Purpose which means i generally get most attached to main characters whose feelings are more explained in the story. But also partly because I’m fascinated both by the specific way 19th century brits are fucked up and by the struggle of figuring out your own set of morals when the system you belived in fails you.

Dream SMP fandom etiquette

So. This post is probably too little, too late, considering the fandom and the issues I'm about to talk about have existed for so long now, and a lot of the people who need to hear this probably aren't on tumblr anyways, but I just wanted to dedicate a quick post to talk about fandom etiquette. Mostly pertaining to discourse, and interactions with people outside of our circle. These are just going to be my own personal thoughts, of course, but I felt it could be good to bring some of this to attention. So without further introduction:

Where to (not) talk about discourse:

Don't go into other streamer's vods to only focus about a different character. If you want to analyse, for example, c!Techno, do it in Techno's stream. Don't go into unrelated streams, like Tommy's, Tubbo's etc. to do it, even if they were a part of the event in question. This is, of course, with the exception if the character in question didn't stream their own pov. But otherwise, stay in your own space. This is to prevent cluttering a streamer's comments about unrelated discussion. To give further example: Tubbo's vod comments should primarily focus on Tubbo's character. Not Tommy's, Ranboo's, Techno's or whoever else's.

Don't start discourse in the comments of animatics. Seriously, stop that. Animatics aren't discussion boards. The comments are there to analyse and appreciate the video presented, not argue. It's especially rude if you pick a small detail, that wasn't even the focus of the animatic, or even a completely unrelated issue to rant out your frustrations about. To give examples: starting disc discourse in an animatic of Tommy talking to Wilbur, or rambling about how tragic Techno's character is in an animatic focused on clingy duo, etc.

This applies to fan songs as well.

Video essays are the exception to these rules. I think it's safe to say they're the place to bring your hot takes, if you really feel so inclined to argue in youtube comment sections (Though I'd personally advise to still keep the topic relevant).

Keep negativity out of fanfic comments. This isn't nearly as big of an issue as the last points, but I've seen it happen a couple times, so I'm deciding to mention it. Fanfics are written for fun. Even if you disagree with the characterisation or something else, unless the author is clear in accepting critique, keep criticism to yourself. And definitely don't rant about how you dislike a character unrelated to the fanfic. Sharing your thoughts on the fanfic itself is of course fine and welcomed, but when it turns from discussing the author's story to talking about how you dislike a character in canon, that's when it crosses a line. Example: comment talking about what you don't like about c!Tommy on a Bench Trio fanfiction.

When commenting on art, keep the feedback positive. Even if you dislike any presented character, keep that to yourself. Example: Don't say things like "I hate x character, but this art is good". You might think the author would feel honoured, but it's actually just hurtful.

How to deal with discourse:

This is gonna be a shorter section, because I think we all chose to do it in different ways, and that's valid. Also, it's just that I, myself, am still learning how to do this well, but I thought it could be good to try to lay it out anyways.

Try to scroll past takes you disagree with instead of arguing if you don't think you'd be able to keep your cool. Noone likes a random person yelling at them through a screen, and if you rant, you'll get an equally frustrated reply back, and noone will be happy. Either explain your point in a calm manner, or scroll past/ unfollow/block.

On the keeping cool thing, remember to just step away. Take a deep breath and calm yourself down before proceeding. To minimize the frustration you feel on a daily basis, filter tags, block people, avoid videos and youtube comment sections that you know will upset you, and leave certain internet spaces if you find yourself unable to escape negativity even with all those steps. Remember: in the end, it's all a game played by friends, a story, and your enjoyment of it lies in what you take from it. Abandon what makes you unhappy. Marie Kondo your fandom experience.

Also, here's your reminder, to whom this is relevant, to take care of yourself. Hydrate, eat, sleep, clean up, get fresh air, remember the things outside of all this. There's plenty to do outside of this fandom, and what you can do here can wait. There is no pressure, or obligation. Not for the content you create, not for the discussions you bring, not for responding to discourse, not for anything. Fandom is meant purely for fun, so take care <3

Interacting with people outside of the fandom:

This is something that I've seen a bit of talk about, and I thought I'd drop in my own thoughts on this as well. No matter the differences, we're all just trying to vibe, and I think these are important things to keep in mind to leave both sides better off:

Don't interact with hate posts. Just don't. You don't want to see them, they don't want to see you. Even if your response is lighthearted, their animosity is not. They will feel frustrated regardless, and the grudge will only grow. And if they're being agressive, calm discussion most likely won't happen even if you're being polite. Just leave it, please.

Correct misinformation calmly. I completely get how it can be frustrating to see blatant lies and all, but with our reputation, people will not listen if you're being antagonistic. Provide sources, explain, and leave it at that.

Don't be hateful, send death threats, or assume privilege or whatever else. That's stepping into the same shoes of the people you hate. Misunderstandings go both ways, and the fact of the matter is, I think most people who dislike DSMP, even the ones who are agressive about it, don't have their stance rooted in maliciousness. To expand on why the situation became what it is today, taken from a discussion on discord:

I think it's just a combination of Dream growing so insanely quickly + how internet spaces have changed over the years. When ccs like jackstepticeye or pewdiepie etc. grew popular, activism wasn't as prevalent and held to such importance. Now it's thankfully more talked about, but that also leads to Dream being more scrutinized in comparision. Add twitter trends and the general prevalence of the fandom, and you've got everyone feeling tired and frustrated and paranoid. People also tend not to fact check stuff, especially when it comes to celebrities and stuff they're not really interested in, so rumors spread fast.

And actually, I think there's absolutely valid reasons to be made uncomfortable by Dream SMP, either in it's creators, content or fandom, and there is, of course, stuff to criticise in general. The problem is the hate and misinformation and overexposure, but we are not going to solve any of that by being aggressive in return.

(This is, by the way, not talking about more serious cases. Like doxxing, or leaving gore images in hashtags, or similar instances. That's a whole different complicated issue that I don't feel qualified to tackle.)

And finally, don't overwhelm outsiders who merely mention the Dream SMP. Don't send asks asking them to watch it, don't write paragraphs explaining the lore, don't confuse them with inside jokes, just... Don't jump on people like that. Unless they're explicitly clear in wanting interaction and getting into the fandom, that kind of thing will just drive them away. This is in no way exclusive to the Dream SMP fandom, pretty much every fandom has people enthiastic to have more people involved, but since there are so unbelievably many of us, it's especially easy to go overboard with this stuff. Just... be polite, and don't pressure anyone. Be nice, please.

Nic Smal and Lucy Heavens Talk About Their Path From Cape Town To Disney’s First South African Creators.

South African creators and executive producers, Lucy Heavens and Nic Smal are behind Disney Television Animation’s upcoming animated buddy-comedy, Kiff, which follows an optimistic squirrel whose best intentions often lead to complete chaos, and her best friend, a sweet and mellow bunny, and was inspired by the people and places the creators experienced growing up in Cape Town. 

They gave some details for the series such as that the show uses a hybrid Toon Boom Harmony and hand-drawn animation

Animation Magazine had a chance to speak with this talented duo during a recent interview:

Can you tell us a little bit about the development history of your new show?

Lucy Heavens: We both always dreamed of having our own show, but it also seemed kind of outlandish and impossible for such a thing to happen to a pair of self-taught South Africans. It wasn’t that long ago that we just had no idea how to pitch a show — to who, where? It was always something reserved for people far away, over there in the U.S.A. But when we met, we were both so desperate for a creative outlet, that working on the idea was wonderful whether it got picked up for development or not. It was its own reward.

Nic Smal: When the series was optioned by Disney (only five short months after we created it) no one was more surprised than us! Development can always be a long road, so we really appreciated the fact that we each had a co-creator to walk that road with, and we poured ourselves into a pilot animatic and animation test. It has been, and continues to be so, so fun! Throughout the process we have found a very collaborative way to work, and the voice of the show really comes alive when we are working together. We have always enjoyed feeding into each other’s primary disciplines in a really productive way. Lucy is a writer who’s an art person.

Lucy: And Nic is an artist (and comedian and musician!) who’s really great at story

When did you two begin working together?

Nic: We met at an animation studio in Cape Town in 2017 and quickly realized we spoke the same comedy language. We have quite different sensibilities, but a very similar sense of humor. There aren’t really any opportunities to work on this kind of comedy in South Africa (as yet!), so we just decided to create a series that would be the most free, fun world for us to sink our teeth into in terms of story and comedy — and just enjoy that process.

What was the inspiration for the show?

Lucy: We really wanted to create a world and a tone that was very free to tell all kinds of stories about being a human; friendships, family, society, frustrations, joys! Ultimately we wanted it to be extremely universal and relatable, filled with rich, flawed characters where we can explore human nature (with talking animals, obviously)! So really the inspiration was: What’s the most perfect vehicle for us to tell endless, and (hopefully) very funny stories? Kiff is the result.

Where is the animation being produced and how many people are working on it?

Nic: Titmouse is the wonderful and amazing studio producing the show.

Lucy: We have a number of team members in both L.A. and New York

Which animation tools are being used by the studio?

Nic: Toon Boom, Storyboard Pro etc. The show uses a hybrid Toon Boom Harmony and hand-drawn animation style, so we can be efficient but also have those sublime, unique moments by pushing key poses and expressions.

Tell us what you love about this show!

Lucy: Every aspect of the show is a joy and a pleasure. Visually, we have poured our love of nature and the natural world surrounding Cape Town into the geography and design. Tonally, it’s a very free space for all kinds of stories to be told. Musically, it is so fun to write songs and play with every musical genre imaginable, and in a way that doesn’t speak down to kids (we write the songs together but Nic is the really accomplished musician). And of course our characters are hilarious to us. We sort of see them as different parts of the human psyche; the lust for life, the sensitive and vulnerable parts of ourselves, the self-centered, ego-driven parts of ourselves — they are all represented, and intersect in interesting ways.

What is your biggest challenge right now?

Nic: Working across three time zones isn’t the most sustainable way to work as showrunners. We’re based in Cape Town and production is happening between L.A. and New York. It is such a collaborative medium; there aren’t enough meeting hours in the day.

What is your take on the global animation scene in 2021?

Lucy: We’ve never been in a more rad time for animation; important, real, existential, funny, rich and beautiful shows for all ages are coming out. There also seems to be a breakdown of the more rigid genres and age groups that you had to target previously, and an understanding that the right audience will be able to find your show on streaming platforms.

Nic: It’s also a time where big broadcasters are taking risks on outsiders like ourselves — thank goodness (and Disney) for that.

Who are your biggest animation heroes/influences?

Lucy: We’re millennials, so we communicate solely via Simpsons references. But we’re also children of 1990s Disney films,  TV and (not animation but) Monty Python as well.

What kind of advice can you offer animation newbies who dream about creating their own show?

Nic: Persistence is the lesson of our lives. Don’t wait for other people to create opportunities for you — just make, create, do!

Lucy: Development is a long road, so make sure you’re making a show that you really want to watch.

Kiff is slated to premiere on Disney Channel in 2023.

ZFAW Fan Content Creator Interviews: HayleyNFoster

Hey everyone! We hope you’re all excited for ZFAW, and to honor (ha!) ZFAW’s commitment to supporting and celebrating fan content creators in the Zutara fandom, we’re going to be rolling out a series of interviews with well-known and widely-beloved content creators over the next few weeks. We’ve got artists and fanfiction authors, some names you recognize as well as a few phenomenal up-and-coming talents, and we can’t wait for you to meet them all!

For the second interview in this cycle, we have our best propaganda creator and this fandom’s hottest new artist/undisputed queen of the animatic, @hayleynfoster!

1. Tell us about how you came to ship Zutara. What does this ship mean to you?

When I was around 14 or 15 and caught Avatar: The Last Airbender on television, I was drawn in by the art style, the humor, and the wonderful characters. I caught the episodes out of order, and the first one I saw and wasn’t prepared to be sucked in by was The Waterbending Scroll. It intrigued me at that age, and the line “I’ll save you from the pirates” combined with the tension between Katara and Zuko in that whole scene was electrifying. I remember my teenage self thinking these two have so much chemistry! And when I saw a commercial on Nickelodeon that featured fanart submitted by fellow Avatar fans, I realized that I could do that to! So I set about making Zutara fanart for myself. I stumbled onto Youtube, practically in its infancy, and discovered that people set clips of Zuko and Katara set to music (And this was still in season 1 days… so people who made these amvs were the real mvps because they were able to make compelling narratives in their amvs with like practically nothing to work with!). The AMVs really spurred my interest in this couple, I remember distinctly one Zutara AMV using the Dido song White Flag utterly capturing my imagination. I found fandom shortly after, getting into deviantart and forums. But the ship really began to mean something to me when, as I was working on my drawings in the computer lab at school, a buoyant presence hovered over my shoulder noticing my Zutara art on the computer screen. The girl was someone I had never really talked to and had only seen from afar but she immediately started excitedly saying she shipped Zuko and Katara too! In this simple shared obsession, I made one of the best friends I’ve ever had and we’re still friends to this day. We would theorize and fangirl over Avatar like it was nobody’s business; we poured over bootleg San Diego Comic Con footage that showed spoilers for season 2 before it aired; we lost our freaking minds when we finally saw The Crossroads of Destiny. We had watch parties every week as Season 3 of A:TLA aired, and comforted each other when the show ended as it did (much ranting was shared). Those are some of my happiest memories from high school… all because this one pairing from this wonderful show. Even though Zutara didn’t happen, we still chat every now and then about it. Zutara will probably be a lifelong obsession, always bubbling under the surface. And without it, I would have never realized that animation was a viable career path. It really did inspire everything including the work I’m doing to this day in the animation industry. I owe a lot to this ship and to Avatar: the Last Airbender.

2. What inspires you to create zutara fanworks?

The resurgence of Avatar: The Last Airbender this year really helped sort of spark that dormant love I had for Zutara. The show’s ending still disappointed me on the rewatch, but Zuko and Katara’s relationship arc was as captivating as ever, so I turned to some fanfiction and looking at people’s pretty Zutara art and AMVs to just revel in fanon instead of getting to hung up on the actual ending of the show. But then I realized, with quarantine and my work load being pretty light, I had time to actually make all new Zutara art for myself, art I was never fully capable of making as a kid, but now could do with my 7 years of industry experience and just… life experience. And I was inspired to do some corrective animatics to satisfy my own desire for a different ending. I just really like exploring these two characters, doing different and interesting things with them, and frankly I’m inspired to make cute, fluffy, romantic art simply by virtue of living in a really sad and depressing world. Things are so crazy right now, creating art about two characters I love being in love, is comforting. And it helps to have inspiring music and amazing Zutara amvs to just sort of stir up my emotions and imagery in my head to make into animatics and art.

3. Be selfish - if you could request one fanwork based on your own art/fanfic, what would it be? What would you absolutely love to see someone create?

Ohhhh… Well, It’s always nice to have people write fanfiction that puts words to my animatics. I am not that great at coming up with dialog myself, so I’ve just chosen to indulge in visuals and emotions for my boards. But when I read things like RideBoldlyRide’s take on my Reunion Animatic, it makes me pretty giddy. (They finally have voices!) :) And this is the MOST selfish thing I could request, but I’m not shy about saying how much I love well done amvs, so I will literally kill for someone to make Zutara AMVs to songs I like… Like, most of AURORA’s songs but especially Exist for Love, Sunseeker by The Naked and Famous, Promises or Take Me by Aly & AJ, Adore You by Harry Styles, Human Enough by ONR, Never Let Me Go by Florence + The Machine, and/or Almost (Sweet Music) by Hozier just… I can see the AMVs so clearly to any of these songs in my head, but I don’t have the tools or skill set at my disposal to make a compelling fan video. When I was in high school, I originally thought I wanted to go into video editing simply because I loved making very crappy AMVs (they were so bad you guys), but I figured out being a storyboard artist was more in my wheelhouse. haha

4. Any words for people who are new to the fandom and/or nervous about sharing their work for the first time?

If you’re new to the Zutara fandom, just have a good time! Don’t waste too much time arguing with people over your shipping preferences. I wasted so much of my teen years having pointless shipping wars with people on DeviantArt, and I’m just so much happier nowadays because I’m just making Zutara art in my little corner of the internet, and honestly, in the politest of ways, I don’t give a shit if people don’t like my art or Zutara. haha I think that’s sort of a key thing for people thinking of posting creative works here in the fandom, just make art for yourself, satisfy your own desires for the pairing, get your creative sparks flying, and create just for the joy of creating. It’s always nice to get comments and such, but simply making the art should be what spurs you on, not the external validation. And have a good time, don’t worry too much - I say as someone who worries about EVERYTHING. But honestly, making art for A:TLA is some of the most relaxed I’ve been because I make it just for me. I’m lucky others seem to like it too!

5. What’s an idea for a fanwork that you have but haven't gotten around to making?

I have an idea for a second generation storyline with my Zutara kids that involves Kya (the eldest firebending daughter) falling in love with an airbender boy (tentatively named Gora in my headcanon who’s a bit of a rabble rouser and one of Aang’s kids he had with a Kyoshi Warrior), and then they start a socialist revolution in the Fire Nation in order to dismantle all of the hierarchical societies across the Avatar world… Together Kya and Gora Fan the Flames of revolution… ehhhhh... Get it?? Oh! Oh, and then Katara, who had put in legit liberal reforms in her time as Fire Lady listens to her daughter after resisting in the first part of the story, but then realizes she can actually play a part in the dissolution of the royalty and is also active in the revolution realizing that moderate liberal reforms are no substitute for a society free of serving royalty (which she had always been uncomfortable with but had rationalized with herself that she was doing good in her capacity as Fire Lady.) I just feel like there’s a lot of cool potential for discussing these ideas and also having some aspirational change in the Avatar world. lol For aesthetics and just happy fluffy times, I can indulge in Fire Lady and Fire Lord Zuko stuff, but really at the end of the day, I take issue with the structures in a society that have to exist for monarchies to exist. Soooo, I kind of want to do my own corrective story for that… if I ever have the time or guts. On a less ambitious note, I would love to do a Zutara sparring animatic to practice doing action, but I need a good story; I am not good at doing fights just for fighting’s sake. Those are just some things I have rattling around in my head.  

6. Are you participating in ZFAW? If so want to give us a hint as to your plans?

Yes! The most I can say is I have one animatic almost finished and one that’s still being thumbnailed. The rest are probably going to be comics or emotive single pieces based on the fanfics I really like right now. :)

first things first, i will direct you to my twelve hour Revan playlist that i use for writing vibes, it's a mixture of vocal and instrumental and it has both a bunch of Revan songs for different eras of Revan, plus revalek songs, plus some revastila songs, plus some songs that just vibe.... it's good and most of the songs i'm about to highlight, if not all of them, are on there already.

first things first, i need to introduce you to the title song for my mandalorian wars fic, oblivion by the aviators! god, this song doesn't fit all Revans perfectly, but it fits mine so well it was like it'd been written for her specifically, i swear. listening to the song was what inspired me to write the fic to begin with (and now i have a whole series oops). i mean, come on, look at the chorus:

can't look at that and tell me that isn't Jedi Knight Revan and the war that broke them.

next up!! liar by the arcadian wild, my beloved. this song is currently my top all time on spotify, closely followed by the song i'm going to rec after it and then achilles come down - and the fact that anything unseated achilles for the top spot should tell you something. (and if you don't know what achilles come down is look it up that one's on my playlist too.) this is a really good one for Revan's slow fall down, the corruption arc - again, all of the songs i'm mentioning really fit my own versions of the characters best, but they're just good in general. some of the lyrics i enjoy from this one:

hnext up, we have it all by pim stones. this particular one feels very revalek to me, early in the Sith years when they still maybe had good intentions, maybe after the war but before becoming Darth. there's this softer, almost desperate tone to the way the singer sings it that just hits me hard - this is the song i'm using as the title for my Sith years interlude fic! a lyric snippet:

next up we have the balancer's eye by lord huron, which is the song i named my series after (have you noticed a trend yet?). it's a very Revan vibe in general, and while i'm not as much of a fan of the style, the lyrics are really excellent!

oooh NEXT we have the song i was going to use for my Jaw Scene before i decided to write a full sith years fic. saints by echos is the song, and again, we've got Sith years Revan and Malak here (yes yes i have a type), the vibes of losing faith and anger and it blends really well with how Revan basically played off being a legendary figure to the Republic to fuel their war against it!

next! for a complete change of pace, i have a revastila song for you - warrior by beth crowley. it somehow manages to capture exactly the dynamic i think of in my head when i think about Bastila, the uncertainty, the forbiddeness of it, but the way Revan ultimately strengthens her and she strengthens Revan

uhhhhhh i am desperately trying to think of songs that aren't just about Revan but instead here i am with another Mandalorian Wars Revan song, what did we know by rachel rose mitchell! this song was introduced to me by the same friend who sent me oblivion, and it really captures the fall of the Mandalorian wars incredibly well imo - the way it started with righteousness but ended in pain (compassion leading to destruction and that's a ramble i'm not going on here either), and there's this line in there that i'm not including in my snippet that's what scares me more than anything / if we could choose the past / we'd probably choose the same and it's like. yes! that's it! i'm going to once again go insane over the scene in the Korriban tomb in kotor 2!!! knowing the price.... would you choose to do it all again........ aaaaaaaa

also while playing Yandere Simulator the other day,

I had figured out that it is a bad idea to take a ring...

cause if you don’t put it in Osana’s bag

or keep it and then try to leave Akademi,

you will get in big trouble, so if you are trying for a Pacifist Route

and only want to befriend Osana and try to get her to be with Kyuji,

then do NOT take that ring that you will find on the rooftop

next to one of those two purple haired sisters.

I had to start all over because of that, of course I still have the save where I fully beat Osana and it now says that the new rival is Amai.

so right now I have two saves, and in the new save I wanted to try to save Osana’s cat and try to get her and Kyuji together.

so far Kyuji has changed himself to look like Osana’s dream guy,

I just hope me leading him to the library and getting him to study,

had helped....

of course when I did help him talk to Osana while hiding behind a tree,

I had to re-send that letter to Osana and tell her about it again,

because when I was waiting behind the school, she was a bit late.

so yeah I had to leave the place and go and send the letter again

and then I had to tell her about it again.

 interesting to know, that before I went to save her cat,

I got the blonde hair dye first (from using Ayano’s computer.)

and then when I ended up at the Stalker’s place,

Ayano’s hair was blonde, so that was fast.

and it was still nighttime in the game too.   

I also decided to join the cooking club,

I think if I am a part of the cooking club it might make it more easy

to try to talk to Amai, at least I can only hope it does.

each time I tried to talk to her in my other save,

she just couldn’t and was busy.

in my other save I am in the Music Club.

when I make another save, I want to try to join a different club.

I am taking a bit of a break from playing the game right now,

I will play more of it later.

I do have a theory about Fun-Girl from Yandere Simulator,

I can’t help but think of her being a like Gaster.

I even did a crossover drawing of Fun-Girl and Gaster.

I think sometime I will post a song I wrote a few years ago,

when I was in a very dark place, I was happy to find out that it survived

after what happen in March this year....

we may appear Masculine or Feminine, but the soul doesn’t have a biological sex/gender, and has no organic binary.

plus if a man did like other man in his present life,

were to be reborn as a woman in his next life and still like men in her new life where she is reborn as a woman,

would that still make her a homosexual...?

I think that truth would kind of make anyone think.

if when I do get reborn, I don’t EVER want my biological body

to be male....I feel more comfortable with the other, and if it takes me time to figure out I am Gyno-Agender in that next life, then it’s fine by me too....

I don’t know if the humans who dislike homosexuals,

really think about the logic that has to do with when a human dies,

if they become reborn into a different bio-gender/sex

they might still be attracted to the guys or gals that they were in their past life.

I hope my explaining about that doesn’t get misinterpreted.

Group 7 Independent Project!

Pre Production -

This is the second time I’m working with Group 7. It is truly an honour to be surrounded by such talented people. We have learnt from last time and we thought it would be interesting to switch up the roles. Here was what we ended up with:

As Production designer I had to create a mood board. We had discussed in meetings what aesthetic we wanted to go for and I believe we ended up with a mixture between films like “Moonrise Kingdom” and “Fight Club”. Either way, these were two of the films I took inspiration from when working on the mood board of the film.

Additionally, I had to think of the costume for both actors. For the man I chose to instead of having major differences in the two separate costumes to instead change them subtly to give a feeling he is still grounded in reality. So that means I added the glasses, changed the tie and gave him a watch to switch up how he looked. The Imagination costume is inspired from Ewan MacGregor’s character in “Big Fish'' we wanted to give him a full blue costume originally but I realised fairly soon that that wasn’t going to happen. So I adapted and decided to use his ties as a means of stating which reality he was in. When he is in the “dream world” he has a very colourful yellow tie but when he returns to his office I believe we went with a black/red tie.

For the woman, I chose to give her a very colourful look. This was purely so she could match the imagination around her. I discussed with Bonnie about possibly putting flowers in her hair but for some reason we couldn’t find anything. In regards to the rest of her costume I gave her shades so that there would be a physical separation between the two. If he can’t make eye contact with her how is he supposed to connect.

Overall, I’m very happy with the costumes and for a first attempt I’m actually quite proud.

Finally, set design. I had recently worked on a project called “Pied” where I had to create a whole set for my actors. That was pretty much my crash course for this independent project. Using the knowledge I can gain from creating that set I tried implementing it into the office workspace and the picnic arrangement. I’m happy with it but it will honestly be down to you to decide if I did a good job. If I could mention any little “fun facts” about what I did here would be a few:

I used a ping-pong table as the walls splitting the workspace

I tried spreading the food along the picnic like a wall that separated the two of them.

There is a jar of pickles in one of the shots. I don’t know who would bring a jar of pickles to a picnic but I thought it would be funny

On the back wall of the office there is a bunch of hidden Easter eggs *HOWEVER* David’s massive head covers them up!

In regards to how the other team members did. We developed the script ideas until we landed on this one. Jack had a great idea about filming some really nice shots of food. We were actually quite a big fan of this idea. I just thought Heather’s idea would allow us to experiment more.

Tom then wrote a (very) detailed script in collaboration with Heather, Bonnie drew a genuinely fantastic storyboard (she is too hard on herself haha) and Jack prepared for the shoot. One issue that presented itself fairly soon was the fact we had two actors on set. However, our Producer (Heather) handled it like a pro and we managed to get the all clear. Overall, a very hardworking start with the promise of Bonnie doing a short animation for the storyboard. (I’m looking forward to hopefully seeing it)

Production -

The shoot day was very fun. We all arrived at 11:30am and we made our way over to the location. Originally, we had planned to film on top of a hill however, things quickly changed and Jack said there was a fantastic path to film on. I was fairly set on the hill idea (As I had imagined the scene being somewhat similar to the UP opening montage) but he said it was a better location and I trust him.

So this is where it got a bit funky. It turns out the location had been converted into a dirt road since the last time Jack had been there. This was a bit demoralising as we had carried a lot of props out but luckily we had seen a location closer to the beach that could possibly work and the rest was history. That very location near the beach ended up where we would film.

With Jack directing and myself on camera we began to make our way through the storyboard Bonnie had devised. I have to be honest there were parts where we deviated from what was on the storyboard: For example, there is a section where he falls over however it didn’t look natural so we thought of another way to film it. This was where I got a bit carried away with VFX. In the long run I’m pretty sure everyone is happy with it but I wasn’t too sure at the time.

Jack did well as a director, he worked well with David and Kady especially when it came to movements of the actors. There isn’t any dialogue in the scenes so it's mainly physical language instead of verbal. My only advice for Jack would be to do a bit more research on the project before going onto the shoot because there were parts of the shoot where actors would ask questions about their character and I wasn’t confident he knew the answer.

In regards to me, I find it very hard to create something someone else envisions because I’m used to directing and filming projects on my own. I definitely think I improved on this project and having the storyboard and detailed script was a big help. I also felt I should have been more prepared as it didn’t look very good in front of the actors with me fiddling around with the camera because I had set it up in the wrong position.

Overall, I think it was a very fun shoot and it went pretty smoothly. You're going to hit speed bumps on the way but I believe Jack and I handled them well.

Oh also, forgot to mention that I had to also record sound and label all the audio and footage for Heather (why do I almost call you Clair XD) It didn’t take as long as I expected and was actually somewhat therapeutic if you can believe haha.

Post-Production -

The post production process has been going well. We have plenty of time until the deadline and we have already got a very solid draft edit so I’m not worried. I just kind of want to get it finished.

First and foremost, Heather has been doing a fantastic job editing the video. She works efficiently, takes feedback on board and seems to me to have a very solid feel on the fundamentals of editing. Looking at the edit now, there are definite issues but nothing that can’t be solved in 10 minutes. It’s clean, fluid and most of all enjoyable to watch. I’m worried without a synopsis people might not get it but I guess you could see it as “up for interpretation” haha!

Before I talk about my role in the Post-Production process, I just want to mention who else is working on the edit as well. Bonnie is planning on adding some very small animations to the edit to give it that feeling of “not-reality” I think this is crucial because without the animation in the shots. When the man defies the laws of physics it will seem really strange. I believe Tom is doing sound, I’ve supplied them with plenty of audio from on set and am free at anytime to get more for them so it will just be down to when it is completed, I have faith that Tom will create something really special with the Sound design as he will probably blend the sound of the surrounding nature with cold office sounds. I’m excited.

Now onto the part I play. I offered to do the VFX for the film and I’m very happy with them. It’s nothing incredibly tedious to create. It’s very basic motion tracking and keyframing but I think using it in small doses works well and with it accompanied by the animation and sound it will take the film to new levels of quality.

I’m just going to talk about the final VFX shot as it was the most challenging (but fun) part to work on. First, I had to figure out how I was going to get the image of Kady onto the wall without printing her because I realised I would be able to match up the shots if I had just zoomed out from an actual image. So I went for a bit of green paper. I motioned tracked it through After Effects and then played with the colour so it matched the scene. I then added an artificial zoom in Premiere and I got the final result. Now, it is not perfect in any means. I wasn’t able to track back any further than I did so the image in the paper actually moves but with the help of Heather and the use of changing aspect ratios I think it really works. I guess we will have to see how people respond.

So that is about everything on the project. I will be back to reflect next month on the finished project. Hopefully it turns out okay. Hopefully, it doesn’t turn into a train wreck. I’m sure it won’t :)

DOGMA: favorite thing about them I have to go with the meaning I assigned to his symbol on the clone trooper tattoo I got: his conviction. He’s so committed to being the best soldier he can be, and yeah at first that led him to follow his orders pretty strictly, but when he finally saw how flawed those were, he stepped up and chose to think for himself. ...also he’s gorgeous and his tattoo is so great. least favorite thing about them I guess being a tightass? Lol. But since I love him it’s also kind of endearing. favorite line I really love the way he hisses out, “We have to tell [the general]. If we know what they’re up to, and we keep our mouths shut, then we’ll be complicit in their insubordination. Do you really want to be court-martialed?” brOTP Dogma & Tup is kind of the default answer for this. But maybe also Dogma & Echo? I like to think that if they’d met, they’d end up good friends. OTP Dogma/happiness, lol. But actually, probably Dogma/Fives? I’ve built a little AU around it; you can read some of it on AO3. I’ll get back to writing it eventually, I promise. nOTP I don’t really know that I have a nOTP, so much as there’s just one ship that I don’t particularly jive with, and it’s Dogma/Mace Windu. There’s nothing wrong with it, and I fully support people who ship it, but I tend to skip over that content when I run across it. random headcanon Dogma will make a big show of not liking spicy food, but secretly he wishes he could enjoy it. unpopular opinion I honestly don’t know what opinions about Dogma are popular or unpopular. I suppose, I think he’s more competent and less shiny than some parts of the fandom believe. I don’t know if that counts. song i associate with them I have a whole playlist, actually, from kind of an AU where Dogma learns how to play music as part of his therapy in prison after Umbara. It’s basically just most of the Smoke+Mirrors album from Imagine Dragons. VIREN: favorite thing about them Viren is the most badass motherfucker on the show. And I don’t just mean because he can use powerful magic, or because he’s got decent fighting skills and hella stamina. He is absolutely willing to throw down and put his life on the line for what he believes in. He’s all in. ...also he’s really hot good god. least favorite thing about them The way he straight up gaslit his son. That was really not cool. favorite line Everything this man says is gold, so I can’t possibly choose a favorite. I do like when he says to Runaan, ”What a beautiful challenge you’ve given me.” Not for its profundity or significance out of context, but because he says it so smoothly it’s so very Viren. brOTP Viren doesn’t...have any bros. :(( But actually, Viren & Amaya. Their friendship would consist almost entirely of sass and badassery, but there would be some gentle moments. I wish they could be friends again. OTP Virrow! There’s something about Viren/Harrow that just really pulls at my heartstrings. I ship Viren with so many people, lol, and I love all the different things you can explore with each ship, but virrow is my favorite. nOTP idk, maybe Viren/Ezran? idk how many people even ship that (and I always support people’s right to ship what they want), but that’s not really my thing. random headcanon Viren is fluent in so many languages, some of which you’ve never even heard of. unpopular opinion Viren has done nothing wrong in his life ever. ...but to be serious, I guess it depends what part of the fandom you’re in, what constitutes an unpopular opinion. As a Viren fan, most of what I think is unpopular to a good chunk of the fans. Outside of canon, I guess I have two unpopular opinions: 1. Viren’s not exclusively or even primarily a sub or a bottom 2. I’m gonna come clean on this one. There’s a fandom art trend going around right now of hobo timeskip Viren. And all the art is super great! I love and support all the artists. But most timeskip Virens have grown out the mustachy bit of his beard, and dear god I just wanna shave it off please get rid of it I hate it. I want his chinstrap beard back. song i associate with them I don’t really listen to a lot of music these days, so I don’t strongly associate Viren with a particular song. it's hard to believe that it's been six whole years since our batch graduated. my friends, suga, daichi, asahi and kiyoko, and i were thrilled. we said goodbye to our underclassmen, the volleyball team, and of course, my second-year sister, who was the new manager.

"remember to always chase after your dreams, no matter what it takes," i say to her.

in between that, i had my eighteenth birthday. that year i was allowed to throw a hug party, and a lot of people were invited - the volleyball team, my college friends, even some alumni i had from karasuno.

my guy friends from college were drunkenly flirting with me, and i brushed it off as i greeted the other guests at the party. and as i was greeting everyone, a pair of eyes glinted more prominently than others.

we made eye contact and we looked at each other. the sun was slowly setting, and the light was reflecting on his face.

sawamura daichi.

"hey stranger," he says, walking up to me. in that moment, i forgot everything. it's like i couldn't bring myself to say anything. what was my name again? angelica? no wait, (y/n).

suddenly it was as if a flame had been rekindled in my heart. a burst of heat warmed my chest, and it seemed like it was spreading all throughout my body.

"have you ever had a boyfriend, (y/n)?" he chuckled.

"eh? what do you mean? you dummy," i retorted, that warmth reaching up to my cheeks.

"nonono, not like that, haha, because i haven't either," he laughed, a sort of manly twinkle.

"i don't know if i'll ever really find the girl to settle down with. like, be totally satisfied for life,"

and from there we just caught up, and we had fun. we reconnected, and it surprised me how much we still had in common. it felt as if we never left high school.

was this love? it was true, i'd never had a boyfriend, much more a crush to begin with, but was this fire it? it was like finally meeting my yang, and it felt amazing. we were just casually going back and forth, and sure he was being kinda flirty, i didn't mind.

he flustered up sometimes, but it just added onto his cuteness. i asked him some bolder questions, and it was adorable how he tried to answer them, playing with his fingers. it was like he was flaunting all his good looks and quirks.

in the middle of my fangirling, i turned around to see my sister mindlessly staring.

"hey sis, watchu looking a-"

i looked in the direction she was looking in, and saw what, or should i say who, she was looking at.

the tanned skin, bulging biceps, with a plate of food, and laughing with friends.

"you like him, huh?" i say, setting aside my own feelings.

"i'll introduce you!" i say, and i skip away. what was this feeling? it's like i want to punch myself.

i try to convince myself that it was okay, and that it was for the better.

"hey daichi!" i chirp, slinking my arm through his.

"where are you bringing me?" he said, chuckling. curse his manly twinkle.

"i'm about to change your life!"

"then by all means lead the way,"

you're the older sibling. the older sister. dad will want you to marry someone good and rich to carry on the (l/n) business. people are already talking bad about the (l/n) law firm, i can't make it worse, i tell myself, plastering a fake smile on my face.

he only likes me because i'm his friend. it's customary for friends to like each other. platonically. i'd have to be dumb to forget that. so might as well introduce aiko to him. fresh plate, it's better than ruining what we already have, i block out any other thoughts and focus on only that one.

"if it takes handling your crazy sister for us to meet up then it'll be worth it," he chuckled. could he please stop being cute?

my sister is the closest family i have. i know her better than anyone. she's the nicest, sweetest soul you'll ever meet, and she deserves the best. imagine if i told her i liked daichi? knowing her selfless attitude, she'd probably brush it off, and i would have him! but i know, as much as she'd put on a brave face, she'd really be miserable, i remember my sister, and how much she deserved everything.

i went towards the nearest window, noticing the sun had completely set, uncovering the dazzling stars shining in the dark sky.

i found myself going back to his eyes. they seemed to glow with some sort of different motivation, something more than grit, with hope and life and love. i imagine how it would have been if i found out about this 'crush' back in high school. maybe then i could have him.

but no. she has every chance to be with daichi. she deserves it. i told her to chase after her dreams, after all. she's taking my advice. at least daichi can still stay in my life after.

i awake from my daze, and realize i'm no longer 18, but 23, and i'm toasting the new couple, sawamura daichi and aiko. i'm the maid of honor. i hold the champagne goblet in my fingers.

"to the groom! to the bride!"

echoes made by the guests as i toasted the newlyweds resonated around the hall as i raised my glass.

"from your sister, and best friend," looking at her sister, and then daichi, with a smile so bright that it was blocking out her tears.

i know aiko will be happy. i mean, she's married to her her dream guy! i don't know if he'll ever be satisfied like what he said back then, but i do know one thing. i'll never be satisfied. and i perched myself against the balcony, and i let it all out.

So I’m sure no one cares but

I’ve recently discovered genderbent Frozen covers and animatics and honestly I love these? Like, a lot? 

(Rambly thoughts under the cut, because I got invested in talking about Disney movies and ways they write characters and generalizing stuff, despite writing this all on a whim and doing not much research but hey, that’s what this blog is for. Random thoughts about movies and stories and Youtube comments)

I mean, I’ll admit that I’ve never been a big fan of Frozen - nothing against the story (cause it is good and for all I will criticize Disney for not generally being particularly uh...keen on taking any risks, I do appreciate the way they do break the mold here) or the music (it sounds like a Broadway musical, hell yeah) - but tbh Let it Go far overstayed its welcome and yes, I’m glad kids enjoyed the movie, but we heard it nonstop for way longer than we should have. The song honestly never felt like it went away for, what like, 2 years? I can listen to songs on endless loops, and this was still too much for me. Granted, I never hated it (my brother did, possibly still does, so I didn’t mind listening to it for the sole purpose of tormenting him) but still. It sorta turned me off from the franchise. I didn’t need to hear it every time I walked into a store.

And I’ll also admit to never being big on genderbending. Nothing against people who enjoy it, but it’s never been my thing, and the few fics I’ve read with it never felt like it used the swap for any sort of message or to explore anything particularly interesting. Which I would’ve preferred, because otherwise, I didn’t see the reason for the swap, personally. (and to be fair, I turned off of this pretty quickly, so I’m sure there are good ones out there, but it’s really just never been something I’m big on)

But like...okay. There is this animatic for Show Yourself, but with the audio dropped into the male vocal range and I love it so much. It’s wonderful and adorable (and the song is legitimately very good, so I’ve seen that part, despite never having actually watched Frozen 2). And also a handful of actual covers, which are absolutely amazing. And now I’ve found the same sort of thing with Let it Go (which I’m now okay with - I guess it just takes 7 years for me to get over the oversaturation of that song in society) and like holy shit, friends. Big fan.

Scrolling through the comments also gets all the “can we please get a Disney Prince movie” thoughts and hey, I’m so on board with this. I know, there are movies with princes (Aladdin, Hercules, Lion King, etc), but it’s less that plain fact of having a prince, and more of the arc for the character? Basically, I wanna destroy the trend of having male-oriented movies be more action-adventure-y. Let boys be soft and have feelings, that’s all I ask. Make that the character arc, have your main character be male and need to discover himself, all of the fears and insecurities included, I am begging you. 

(Sidenote because I did see some other interesting mentions: I haven’t seen Hunchback, back from what I’m aware of with that movie, that one probably fits closer to what I’m talking about. Also Treasure Planet, because honestly, that really is exactly the kind of arc that I’m talking about, and there’s a reason I love that movie with all my heart, it’s amazing, and go watch it if you haven’t. But like, it’s a coming of age story with some good ol’ found family and no romance! And while Jim is really smart and has some bad-ass moments, I love when we get insight into his emotional state. But I could gush about this movie forever, moving on. The one thing about these is not the lack of royalty (for me), but just...box office? I don’t know the circumstances for Hunchback, except that the numbers apparently aren’t great, and to my knowledge, someone over at Disney just didn’t want Treasure Planet to do great, and this goes to show what marketing does. Apparently, they did the same to Emperor’s New Groove, which isn’t entirely relevant, but my point is, whoever did this to these movies, screw you, they’re wonderful)

Anyway, I’m not saying remake Frozen, but doing the genderbend works really well here, I think? Obviously, I love that Elsa’s arc is entirely her own, and stories about opening up to family and accepting yourself have messages that everyone needs to hear, regardless of any barrier. So this isn’t a criticism, just a thought. Because (granted, I’m not doing research to write this, and I’m admittedly not 100% caught up on Disney movies) it feels to me like female characters do tend to have the more emotional arcs. Talking Disney Renaissance, this feels true in the female-lead movies, especially if you compare to the respective princes. In male-lead movies, it’s not entirely true, and I’m not calling the characters flat or emotionless, but that’s not the main thing going on in the movie. (ie, Simba has his reservations about returning and so he talks to Mufasa, and that’s a big scene and its important, but it feels more like it’s just a step to ultimately taking down Scar - tbh, compare the screentimes there). Again, the Renaissance movies are fantastic and I love them, but I just want to make some comparisons. And I don’t want to delve too deep into the more recent ones, because I haven’t seen them all, but the focus seems much more on the strong, independent female-lead (again, not a criticism because we can always do with more strong ladies who don’t need no man - I am just saying). 

But anyway. Frozen. I like the idea of keeping Anna as herself, because the Hans twist and more slow-burn-y development with Kristoff is good - that accomplishes the idea of breaking down tropes. But Elsa as a male character is really interesting to me? Having an arc that centers on fear that’s born of isolation, and ends with self-acceptance and familial love, is something that I don’t recall seeing in male characters very often (not never, but not often)? But I can think of tons of male characters who appear confident and charismatic, even if that’s in their own way, and then even if we do peel back to find trauma and pain, I can think of more instances of it presenting as bitterness or anger rather than genuine fear (or at the very least, we as the audience don’t quite see that fear). I want to see a male character who was forced to repress who they are and has real fear as to who their true self is. I want this character to discover who that is and have a hard time coming to grips with it, and all that stuff because I honestly just really like writing a lot of self-deprecation. Won’t deny that. And then pairing that with magic is also just interesting IMO. I don’t know how magic tends to fall with regard to this sort of thing, but just the fact that it’s inborn and different (akin to D&D sorcery), rather than learned and understood (like D&D wizardry, or even HP wizards), is an interesting thought to me? Maybe because the “strange and different” type of magic reminds me more of the general conception of witches (or...the Salem Witch Trials) which is also more female-leaning, but I won’t stand by that super strongly, because it’s not something I’ve looked into all that much. But it means, to me, that it would be an interesting way to sorta...turn the tables in the way magic gets used.

Point being: I just think this would be a really solid message. That bravery doesn’t have to be saving the world or killing the dragon or even the self-sacrifice story that’s become more prominent in stories now. It can also come from battling your own demons and opening up to people to ask for help. Which is obviously something everyone needs to learn, but if we’re gonna fight the submissive female character trope with some badass heroines, then I say we also do the same thing in reverse for our male characters. Just a thought

Hey everyone, Pyra here and here are the prompts for our third Zexal Month!

The new mod team and I -literally a bunch of chaotic demons in a discord chat- have been very excited and have been working hard on a bunch of prompts and alternative prompts to bring back your hyper-fixation on Zexal. August isn’t far away, friends! So if you want to prep for Zexal Month early, here’s your chance!

Day 1: 1st of August  Presenting you.

Who are you and what made you watch Zexal?

Day 2: 2nd of August Kattobingu brings us together

Tell/show us your favourite thing about your favourite character/or friendship

3rd and 4th of August Weekends are breaks/free prompts/time to prep for next week. So do what you want!

Week 2 Artists

Day 1: 5th of August Fashion icons.

Honestly, just use this an excuse to throw your character in a fancy outfit. Show us alternative costumes, clothes, and fashion, or even an alternate design of someone!

Day 2: 6th of August  A Different Mantle.

Yuma the Barian Lord? Vector the Numbers Hunter? Rio the Arclight? Mix the teams up and show us how it affects the story!

Day 3: 7th of August The Family I’ve never known.

Ena, Mirai Tsukumo, the Kamishiro parents, the poor women who ended up marrying Faker and Tron… So many characters were skipped over in Zexal. Show us headcanons and pictures of these unsung heroes. Alternatively, draw fan children! You know you want to.

Day 4: 8th of August A long time ago, far in the future.

Show us characters at different ages! Maybe them as senior citizens, or as hot parents, or babies!

Day 5: 9th of August Space and the cosmos.

Hey, interpret this as you will. Maybe you could do something about the three planets floating in Zexal skies. Or what happens post-Zexal. Or Tron’s weird galaxy face.

Week 3: Writers

Day 1: 12th of August An Angsty Teen Drama.

Give us angst. Death scenes. Breakups. Injury. Pining. Mutual pining. Forbidden love. Cheating. Whatever it is, make the characters (and us) hurt. (Happy endings optional but not mandatory).

Day 2: 13th of August Love is a revolving door.

Give us your OTP. Show us why you love it so much and let them be happy (unless you like it because of the angst. Go do what you want, I’m not your mum).

Day 3: 14th of August What if there were no magic card games?

What if the Zexal cast had to be in our world? Give us some sort of modern AU! Go domestic and coffee shop style or go assassins gunning each other down or something in between!

Day 4: 15th of August Xyz Beyond Time!

Crossover time! Whether with another Yugioh series or a different show, show us a crossover with Zexal!

Day 5: 16th of August   The many threads of fate.

Free AU day. Show us what you’ve thought about in your spare time, even if you’ve never done anything for that AU before.

Week 4: Video/Animation

Day 1: 19th of August LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL

Hey, who put memes here? It’s just memes both new and old, plus maybe some old fandom jokes. Or something. I don’t know, unleash your inner degenerate.

Day 2: 20th of August The World is Beautiful.

Whether you do animatics or capture gifs, we want to showcase your work here! Capture your favourite part of Zexal. Those who don’t do either, feel free to talk/show what’s your favourite visual scene/scenery of Zexal!

Day 3: 21st of August DJ Earworm.

What’s your favourite Zexal BGM? Either talk about it or do a picture/piece of writing/gif work/amv to the duration of the song! See what you can achieve in 4 minutes!

Day 4: 22nd of August That one, but again.

This one goes out to all you animators. Reanimate your favourite scene from Zexal. Alternatively, for everyone else, just show us your favourite scene in Zexal.

Day 5: 23rd of August AMV hell.

Fan Video time! It doesn’t have to be an AMV too! Vines/Jokes/movie trailers… show us what you’ve got! If you don’t make AMVs, go youtube some and give a shoutout. Alternatively, writers/artists could write a prompt based on a Zexal video they find! Remember to reference videos properly!

Week 5: Fandom week

Day 1: 26th of August Battle of the Bands!

Are you a Numbers Club fan? A Barian Emperors fan? An Arclight fan? A Fearsome Four fan? Something else entirely? Why do you like that group the best? Show us something with them!  

Note: This prompt does not have to include a battle of the bands AU unless you want to include it.

Day 2: 27th of August Illuminati confirmed

Fan Theory Day! As much as we love Zexal, there are some plot holes. Fill in the gaps or show us a theory you’ve been concocting!

Day 3: 28th of August The Me that’s not me.

What’s your favourite character? What character do you relate to? Why is this character special to you? Show us your story.

Day 4: 29th of August The Me to aspire to be.

Show us a person in the fandom that you look up to. Or you did look up to back in the day. Give them a shout out, show them why you liked what they did. If there’s no one, tell us a second character you’re really inspired by from Zexal.

Day 5: 30th of August Where are you now?

Zexal Month has always been about the community. Even if Zexal may not be our current fandom, it still holds a special place. For those currently in the Zexal fandom and active, tell us what you like about it. For those fossils like me, talk about your new fandoms and maybe do a small crossover with Zexal to show why you love your new fandom so much.

Finale 31st of August Goodbye for now.

Of course, you can put forth whatever media you want to whatever prompt! We’d love to see an AMV of your Modern Day AU for example! We just thought having more focused prompts would help.

"Lights, Camera, Drarry" 2019 Rules and Guidelines

What is “Lights, Camera, Drarry”?

"Lights, Camera, Drarry" (LCDrarry, LCD) is an anonymous prompt-based fest, where authors and artists create a piece that is inspired by or based on a film, a theatre play or a TV series/show. The main pairing for all submissions is Harry Potter & Draco Malfoy ("Drarry"). Participants can include any side-pairings, original characters or characters from the remixed works as long as the final submission is still a Drarry-centric piece.

You decide how much you want to follow the storyline of the original work: Is your work just inspired by the general idea of the original work? Are you borrowing the universe of the original work and creating your own story within this universe? Are you borrowing the plot idea and recreating it in the magical world? Are you maybe retelling the original story, but Harry and Draco are experiencing what’s happening in the original work without taking the place of the original main characters (who are also part of your story, maybe in the background)? You decide! Anything is possible. You can also just pick a scene that you like and use it as inspiration. There is no need to tell the complete story of the film, play or TV series/show.

All films, theatre plays, TV series and shows are acceptable prompts - with the exception of films produced by and released under the Walt Disney Pictures banner. This year’s HD Wireless fest has the theme “Disney songs” and we do not want to compete with this wonderful fest. More about this in the section “Acceptable Prompts” below.

Since this is a film-theatre-TV-inspired fest, we accept a very wide range of submissions: - stories (at least 1000 words) - art (traditional art, digital art, comics, animatics, crafting, vidding, roleplay ...) - podfics (You need permission from the author of the story to podfic their work and the story needs to fit the scope of this fest. Please contact us by e-mail if you would like to create a podfic for the fest and we can discuss the details.)

This also means that you can collaborate to create something together. Please fill out only one sign-up form (claim) per “collab team” (more about ‘prompting’ and ‘claiming’ in the rules below).

Collaborations can be illustrated fics, fics with more than one author, comics created by more than one person, roleplay videos or gifs with several roleplayers, podfics with several readers etc.

Rules

LCDrarry is an anonymous prompt-based fest run on AO3 (additional platforms are tumblr, LJ, DW, PF and the Drarry Discord 18+).

Prompting

Prompting (and claiming) will open on 1 January 2019.

Prompting (and claiming) will close on 1 April 2019.

Prompts will be submitted through a Google form. You do not need a Google account to submit a prompt. Prompting Form

In the Prompting form, we’ll ask for the following information: - For a Film: Title, Release Year, Director (eg. "Top Gun", 1986, Tony Scott) - For a Play: Title, Author (eg. "Romeo and Juliet", Shakespeare) - For a TV Series/Show: Title, Release Year, Series or Show (eg. "Friends", 1994, Series)

As well as - Any special requests you might have regarding your prompt - Squicks/Triggers (anything you don’t want to see in the works that will be created based on your prompt) - The maximum rating (General, Teen, Mature, Explicit).

All acceptable prompts will be added to the official prompt list which will be updated regularly during the prompting and claiming period.

Up to 10 prompts can be submitted per person.

Everybody can submit a prompt.

Note: You do not need to prompt to claim. You do not need to claim to prompt.

Acceptable Prompts

Submissions must be beta-read (or beta-listened etc.). The mods reserve the right to proof submissions and return them to the creator if they need a closer look. If you do not have a beta reader, please contact us as soon as possible by email and we can give you information on how to find someone.

All submissions will exclusively be posted to our LCDrarry 2019 fest collection on AO3 by the participants before the submission deadline (except if you were granted an extension).

Participants will need to add the AO3 mod account as a co-creator to their AO3 work. If you have any questions on posting to an AO3 collection, don’t worry, detailed information on how to post to AO3 will be added here and published on the different platforms when we approach the submission deadline.

If you do not have an AO3 account yet, please contact us as soon as possible, so that we can send you an AO3 invitation link.

Once you have posted your beta’d submission to our LCDrarry 2019 fest collection on AO3, added the necessary tags and information, and made sure that the HTML coding (for italics, bold, centered etc.) is correct, you will need to send your header information and the link to your submission per email to lcdrarry@gmail.com

Anonymity during the Fest

This is an anonymous fest, so please do not tell anyone except your beta(s) details about your story/art/podfic. Do not post extracts or previews anywhere before the official reveal. Once the creators are revealed on the big Reveals day, you can post your creation on other platforms and talk about it everywhere.

You can answer comments on your anonymous AO3 work during the fest if you want to do so, because AO3 will keep your username hidden in the answers and only reveal it once the work is not anonymous anymore. But please do not reveal yourself through your comments. We recommend waiting for reveals before you answer the comments, like this you can squee freely.

If you are creating a video or sound file (podfic, animatics, roleplay etc.), you can host it on your Youtube channel or any other video or sound platform and embed a link in your AO3 submission. But the video or sound file needs to stay private (only accessible if you have the link) on Youtube or the alternative platform till Reveals.

To prevent art theft, artists have the option to post signed and/or watermarked artwork to the AO3 collection. Your choice of prompt still needs to stay anonymous till your creation posts officially in the fest. Despite the signature, please treat your submission like an anonymous submission and do not hype or share your work anywhere before Reveals, officially you are an anonymous creator till Reveals.

Extensions and Dropping Out

If you think, you’ll need an extension, please message us as soon as possible by email (and not only on the day of the submission). We mods try to turn this fest into a great experience for everybody, so please give us the possibility to plan our schedules. Last minute panics are very bad for everybody’s heart rate.

Please let us know if you have to drop out of the fest. We will not be upset, you will not be banned from future fests; we just need to know ASAP so that the fest will run smoothly for everybody! Thank you!
