You got me absolutely DELIGHTED when you said Clow Card I was like "aw fuck Clow Reed is out here causing more problems than one man should ever fucking be able to again isn't he"
He's out there wandering around with Ginko Mushishi and Medicine Guy Mononoke, but they all somehow mitigate each other's havoc like rock-paper-scissors.
Yumichika has long-standing fight-on-sight level beef with all three of them.
Ikkaku has gotten fucking wasted and arrested with all three of them.
Zaraki met all three but only found Ginko worthy* of fighting. Ginko managed to negotiate him down to a game of Tag, which lasted the better part of three and a half years until Yachiru was declared Winner.
*As in "passed the minimum constitution requirement to not die immediately and combat blueball him". Ginko is effectively a field biologist and hoofing over hill and dale with his cabinet has made him RIPPED. The medicine seller is no slouch either, but he's a better liar and convinced Zaraki that he's completely physically uncoordinated. Clow Reed is a pathetic wet rag who fainted when he made direct eye contact with Zaraki.

Kenpachi was gone that same day. Goblins and other small creatures proliferated in the forest around the castle and had been traveling towards the King’s palace, so most of the soldiers had gone with him to eliminate them. Only a handful of soldiers and Yumichika stayed behind, much to his chagrin, to protect the castle and you, or so he told you.
It had been five days, and you had been disappointed and annoyed the first couple of days, but then you wondered when he was even going to come back.
The cold was unbearable, even with the warmest coat you had, it was difficult to stay still, so you sat, fidgeting in your seat by the gallery, watching Yachiru play around in the snow. She had taken the opportunity to sleep some nights with you since Kenpachi left, clearly bored without him. She occasionally sparred with Yumichika, but she must have gotten bored about that at that moment, much more entertained with running around the castle yards to build snowmen.
“You must be impatient, Your Highness.” Yumichika commented casually as he approached you to sit by your side.
“It’s alright, I do wish my husband would get home safely though.” He only hummed in response, and you noticed the smile on his face when you turned to look at him. “What?”
“The Captain looked pretty pissed when he left that day.”
“He was.” You chuckled.
“But you look different since then. Radiant , if I might add.”
You gape at him when you saw the mischievous gleam in his eyes, before quickly averting your gaze.
“I do not know what you mean.” You replied with blush on your cheeks.
“I take it that you two are getting along now?”
You flushed deeper, remembering that day when you yelled at Kenpachi in front of his men. Yumichika was obviously prying while simultaneously teasing you, and you smiled, despite your embarrassment.
“We had the time to get to know each other.”
“I’m happy for you, Your Highness.”
His company had been soothing in those days, no matter how much he teased you, and you had been grateful.
By the next day, you were more anxious than anything. Even though Yumichika had told you a thousand times not to worry, you couldn’t help it. Albeit, you knew nothing about how long it could take to exterminate magical creatures, but it couldn’t be so difficult, could it?
It was getting darker as you tapped your foot against the main room’s floor while skimming through the pages of a book you had attempted to read several times that day but couldn’t find it in you to focus. You were on edge, concerned and desperate, when you heard the horn outside the castle being blown, the announcement of Kenpachi’s arrival.
You dashed out at once, catching a quick glimpse through the window of the soldiers riding their horses as they entered the castle. You had never run so fast, and you were at the entrance just in time to see Kenpachi jumping off his horse, your heart jumping in your chest from excitement at the sight.
He had seen you running towards him as soon as you stepped outside, but his expression showed his surprise when you jumped into his arms. His cold armor gave you goosebumps, you didn’t even grab your coat when you ran out, but you only clung to him harder, smiling wide when you felt his arms wrapped around your frame.
“Why did my husband take so long to return?” You asked him, straining your neck to look up at him after you pulled away.
“I would have burned the forest down to get here faster if I could have.” Kenpachi replied with a smirk, patting your head.
When he kissed you, you froze for a split second. It wasn’t common practice to kiss your spouse in public, much less sticking their tongue in their mouth, but it was what your husband was doing at that moment. While you were surrounded by his soldiers.
“Ken!” You said between kisses while pushing at his shoulders. “Your men are watching us!”
“Who the fuck cares?”
Kenpachi kept his lips on yours until it was obvious that you wouldn’t return it. You were faced with the cheers and applause of the soldiers surrounding you, which only mortified you more as you buried your face in your hands.
“Shut up!” Kenpachi hollered, making all the men flinch. “You have the day off tomorrow, now get lost!”
You gasped when he suddenly picked you up in his arms before he strolled into the castle, carrying you up the stairs as if you weighed nothing.
“What are you doing?!” You yelled, clinging to his neck as firmly as you could. That might as well be the highest you had ever been without your feet touching the ground and it made your blood run cold.
“It’s been six fucking days. Can you even imagine the state that I’m in?”
“I-I do not understand what you mean…”
Kenpachi had taken you to your bedroom faster than you could have imagined, and he let you down on the floor before closing the door.
“It means I thought of nothing else but you when I was freezing my ass off in the forest.”
You recognized the look in his eyes as soon as he turned to you, and it ignited a fire within you that you had only experienced once in your life.
You had been too excited to have him back that you didn’t even notice how dirty he was until he kissed you again.
“Ken, please wait a second…” You pleaded, pushing at his shoulders.
“I can’t wait another second!”
“You’re filthy!”
“ I’m what? ”
He looked at you, bewildered and obviously angry, and it took all your willpower not to smile even a little bit. A silly thing to find amusing, but you were thrilled that he desired you so much he couldn’t wait. You didn’t want to wait either, quickly feeling that tingle between your legs as soon as he had kissed you.
But you wouldn’t do it with the smell he was exuding at the moment.
You ordered one of the maids to bring hot water for a bath as fast as she could before you helped Kenpachi get rid of his clothes. Difficult task considering how handsy he was; tugging at your hand, wrapping an arm around your waist, pulling you close to him. As if he was trying to coax you into giving in. It was all the more complicated to stick to the simple resolve of just waiting for him to bathe. His actions were exciting and made your heart jump happily inside your chest.
“Can you wait just a few moments until the bath is ready?” You half heartedly chastised him after pushing his hand away from your waist.
“You wouldn’t be asking me that if you knew how hard it’s been since I left.” Kenpachi replied, once again sliding his hands up your waist, dangerously close to your chest.
Whatever protest you could have had died in your throat when he pressed you firmly to his body, head leaning down to lick up your neck. You didn’t even attempt to fight him off then, shuddering at the contact of his lips to your skin, making you gasp. Your feeble resolution was quickly discarded, but you didn’t care.
Your dress was ripped easily, and you gaped at him, in disbelief that Kenpachi had simply pulled at the fabric and that was all it took to leave you in your undergarments.
“My dress! Why did you-”
“I’ll buy you more dresses.”
His lips clashing against yours prevented any further complaints, and your mind turned to mush when his hands started grabbing and kneading at you, a flimsy camisole and his pants the only pieces of clothing between the two of you. Though it didn’t matter much; when he embraced you firmly against his body, you could feel his erection as it pressed against your stomach, making you gasp against his lips.
Kenpachi got rid of your camisole in the blink of an eye, leaving you completely bare for him. You yelped when he picked you up and unceremoniously threw you on the bed, crawling on top of you and attaching his lips to your neck, nibbling and licking while his hands roamed your body.
Your heart was beating fast, too fast too quickly, your body suddenly burning with every touch from him; you were worried you might be sick if you got like this every time you were intimate with your husband. Was this how it was supposed to feel every single time?
The heat in your abdomen surged when his fingers traced the inside of your thighs, all the way until they slid past your wet folds. You jolted and gasped, thick fingers prodding and pressing against your walls. Kenpachi stared at your face, gauging your reaction, grinning salaciously when he grazed a sweet spot inside you, making you moan.
He pumped his fingers with obvious intent, every word in your mind casted out in the process. You stuttered breathlessly, clinging to his arms and moving your hips against his hand. It was like your body had a mind of its own and you couldn’t control yourself.
“That’s it,” Kenpachi groaned, licking his lips as he eyed you intensely. “Fuck, I’m going to have you all for myself.”
He crashed his lips against yours, swallowing down all the noises you made. Groping your chest with one hand, his fingers never slowed down, sliding in and out at a fast pace, creating one of the most sinfully wet sounds you’ve ever heard. It only made the knot in your abdomen grow tighter.
The knock on the door brought you back to earth, much to your embarrassment. You pushed at Kenpachi’s shoulders, trying to get him off you, but he didn’t budge until the maids announced in a very quiet and awkward tone that they had prepared the bath.
You gasped when you realized they must have known what you were doing.
When Kenpachi finally pulled away, it was due to your flailing as you tried to cover yourself with the blankets.
“Hurry the fuck up.” He grumbled to the maids, irritated, as he opened the door.
The maids hurriedly walked in with the wooden bathtub and hot water, arranging the towels and clean clothes before they were practically kicked out of the room by Kenpachi’s impatient orders while you had cocooned yourself with the covers. When he tugged at the fabric, you whined like a child throwing a fit.
“What is it? I can’t read your mind.” He complained, still pulling at the sheets.
“The maids heard us!”
“So? Who gives a crap?”
“ Who gives- ”
Kenpachi removed the blankets from your face with one harsh tug, and you were forced to see his still lustful eyes and an amused grin.
“Join me.” He said, signaling to the bathtub behind him.
“I-I mustn’t, you’re the one who needs to wash up…” You stuttered, blushing when he undid his pants, muscles bulging with every little move.
Propriety aside, you stared wide eyed when he stood naked in front of you. Your fingers flinched, eager to reach out; his cock was long, thick and standing at attention, and you were curious about what it’d be like to touch it. Was it normal to be so big? It was the first time you saw a man completely bare, and you had nothing to compare him to, but the palpitations you were having and the sudden increase of the heat in your abdomen was all you needed to know how attracted you were to him. No matter how nervous you felt, you couldn’t wait to touch him.
Kenpachi’s devious smirk was too alluring and only enticed you more. As soon as you pulled the blankets off, he grabbed you, easily picking you up in his arms to carry you to the bathtub. You yelped, clinging to his neck until he eased you into the tub, getting in with you soon after.
“I thought you’d complain more.” He teased you, taking your hand and pulling you closer.
You couldn’t reply, too nervous and excited to speak, only licking your lips as you scooted closer to him, settling between his legs. With a hand on the back of your neck, Kenpachi wasted no time and kissed you fervently. All his kisses had been insistent and greedy, but you knew the difference then. Everything was burning hot and you were dying to be smoldered.
Curiosity and desire got the better of you, and you reached for his erection, wrapping your hand around it and feeling the heated skin on your fingers. The deep groan that came out of Kenpachi’s lips made your heart stop as you experimentally moved your hand, eliciting more sounds from him.
Though you didn’t really know what to do, the few reactions you got from him so far were enough to keep you going. Kenpachi grunted, tugged at your hair, shuddered with every twist from your hand. It was exhilarating, a new passionate thrill; you had power over this strong, big man, even if it was just for a moment. Why did you let him go for a week in the first place if just a small touch made you feel like this? And why couldn’t he come back sooner?
“Why did you take so long to come back?” You asked against his lips.
“I got lost.” Kenpachi groaned, frowning as if he was in pain.
“You got lost?” Your eyes opened wide and a smile tugged at your lips.
Pulling at your hair, he kissed you forcefully once more as he wrapped his fingers around your hand, guiding your strokes on his cock. He moved urgently, grunting into the kiss, jerking his hips into your fist.
For a fleeting instant, Kenpachi seemed cute , so desperate to keep touching you, making your heart flutter. Maybe you were more enamored than you initially thought.
Pushing your hand away after a few pleasant moments, he tugged at your arm, urging you to sit on his lap, water sloshing around as you straddled him.
“Come here, princess,” Kenpachi smirked, licking his lips as he eyed you up and down, taking in the sight of your wet naked body. “I’ve been dying to see you.”
You inevitably blushed, but didn’t recoil. His hands slid up and down your sides, gripping your flesh, squeezing every inch of you. You wanted him, needed more of his hands, his touch on your body, like the moon needed the stars to make a night complete.
His fingers slid between your legs, easily gliding two digits inside you in one swift move, and you moaned, clinging to him when your thighs trembled. Your arousal had reached its boiling point moments ago, but you could feel it rapidly growing again as he pumped his fingers.
When Kenpachi took them out, he guided your hips towards his erection, stroking his cock in his hand before gliding the head over your slicked folds. You breathed in deeply, bracing yourself with a tight grip on his shoulders.
As he slowly slipped inside you, you were left breathless. Being stretched beyond what you imagined, you felt a tang of pain, but the pleasure of being filled overtook you. You panted until he was fully sheathed inside you, digging your nails into his skin as he planted open mouth kisses on your neck.
“Fuck, your pussy is so tight,” Kenpachi murmured, surprisingly sweet, against your damp skin. “Relax…”
You wrapped your arms tightly around his neck, burying your face in his shoulder, taking in his scent. His natural musk mixed in with an earthy smell, it must have been due to all the days he spent in the open field. But it was so his , you loved it.
Your walls clenched around his erection, and he groaned, long and loud, against your neck.
“ Shit , what are you doing?” Kenpachi asked in a shaky voice, holding you tightly. “I’m trying to hold back here…”
“Why are you doing that?”
“What kind of question is that? I’m not some brute who will just fuck you without consideration when it’s your first time.”
You pulled away to look him in the eye, brushing your nose against his as you threaded your fingers through his hair.
“Maybe a little bit of that is what I want… it already feels good…”
The air was knocked out of you when his cock slid out promptly before thrusting back inside you in one swift move. Your mouth hung open, taken aback by the new sensation of having something so big promptly filling you so harshly.
“You gave me permission,” Kenpachi smirked, licking your lips. “Don’t complain later.”
He abandoned any delicacy he might have had, and his hips jerked into you at a hard, rough pace. Water sloshed around, spilling onto the floor, as he held onto you, keeping you in place, his cock sliding in and out swiftly.
Sounds left your lips, though you could barely recognize them. All you could focus on was that warm sensation in your abdomen growing again, and the throbbing of your skin between your legs, like it was on fire. Even his hands felt like they were burning, gripping at your hips and ass, digging his fingers in, marking you as his.
Kenpachi was grunting into your neck, occasionally licking and biting the skin there, and you had no idea how insanely hot his voice could be until then. Low and deep and hoarse, lost in the pleasure and God, you wanted to hear more of that.
His grip on you was making it hard for you to move, but you attempted to roll your hips just in time with his thrusts, and a low growl rumbled from his chest when your hips met.
“ Fuck , you’re gonna make me lose it…”
“Stop treating me like a porcelain doll,” You tugged hard at his hair, making him face you. “Show me how much you desire me!”
His eyes were already clouded by lust the minute you looked at them, but something shifted when those words left your mouth.
You were taken off guard when his hips promptly jerked up, his cock hitting so deep you saw stars behind your lids.
Kenpachi crashed his lips against yours, devouring them and swallowing down all the noises you were making. It was impossible not to be loud; every sensitive nerve was being stroked by his wonderful cock, even places you had no idea could feel so good. He held you firmly with an arm around your waist, and you tried to grind down to meet his thrusts, but it was clear that you couldn’t match his moves.
He fucked into you like an animal driven by pure instinct; like he had been waiting for this for the years. The tub creaked with every slap of his hips against your ass, and you were afraid it might collapse underneath the both of you, while simultaneously hoping he wouldn’t stop. Curses left his lips with every push of his dick, adding to your arousal, the heat inside your tummy burning, close to snapping.
You couldn’t believe how close to the edge you were already, panting and whimpering every time his cock hit inside you just so, making your legs shiver. You dug your nails into the skin of his back, drawing blood, coaxing a guttural groan from Kenpachi, music to your ears.
“You’re gonna come, aren’t you?” Kenpachi growled, staring at you with dark eyes and the widest smirk you’ve seen on his face.
You opened your mouth to try and utter an answer, but his thumb suddenly rubbing your clit left you breathless. Every stroke was precise, with the right pressure to push you over the edge. You wanted to warn him you were bound to tip over soon, but you couldn’t articulate any words, too far gone to think straight.
“Come on, baby, I wanna feel you.” He instructed you, licking at your mouth as you stuttered out a moan. “Come on my cock.”
His words were all you needed, and you shuddered as you came, completely overwhelmed. Jaw hanging open, you held tightly onto him as sparkles danced in your mind, pleasure flooding your veins as he fucked you through your orgasm, making your toes curl.
“ Fuck , that’s it.” Kenpachi growled, keeping his eyes fixed on your face as he rammed into you. “I’m the only man who will make you come.”
His rhythm wasn’t fazed by your insides clenching around his length; if anything they spurred him on. Increasing the speed, he chased his own release, grabbing your hips in a firm grip as you shook with aftershocks, whimpering every time his cock slid in and out.
“You’re mine and only mine!”
With a hard thrust, Kenpachi buried his cock inside you, throbbing as it spilled his cum, filling you to the brim. You sobbed, the sensation of being even fuller than earlier making tears well up in your eyes. The skin between your legs tingled pleasantly as your thighs quivered, tired from the strain.
It felt like ages until you came down from your high. You were floating in the sky, but his hands brought you back with a smoldering touch. Nothing compared to the ground shaking orgasm you just experienced, and you finally understood what the fuss was about when your maids gossiped about sex. Though you doubted people even knew how good sex with Kenpachi was.
Both of your skins were wet and sticky with sweat and bodily fluids, but you didn’t mind, choosing to keep your arms firmly wrapped around him as you regained your composure. Half of the water had spilled onto the floor, and what was still in the tub had turned lukewarm, but Kenpachi’s body was hot enough to keep you warm.
Was it possible to feel this way in the arms of a man like him?
His cock was still inside you when he stood up with you in his arms, and you let out a shriek, clinging tightly to him as he got out of the tub.
“I’m not done with you.” Kenpachi said, spilling water onto the floor as he walked to the mattress to lay you down.
The cool air hit your damp skin, creating goosebumps, and you gasped when he shifted his weight, his erection moving slightly, making you shudder. Still sensitive after such an intense orgasm, every little move sent jolts of pleasure through your veins.
As Kenpachi loomed over you, your heart skipped several beats. The image was oddly familiar, but the feeling blooming in your chest was quite different than that night he had saved you in the forest. His aura was just as heavy, but it only made the warmth in your abdomen burn anew, and you couldn’t wait for him to start fucking you again .
“I’ve been waiting for this for way too long,” Kenpachi grinned salaciously, eying you as if you were a piece of meat and licking his lips. “I’m gonna take my time now.”
With a hand on the back of his neck, you brought him down to meet your lips, kissing him fervently. He grunted, surprised but just as eager, sliding his tongue into your mouth while he gripped your waist.
Pulling his hips back, Kenpachi thrust into you sharply, making you moan into the kiss, stars beaming behind your lids when he started a steady pace. As he trailed his tongue down your neck, you submerged yourself in every sensation, every touch, every sound, letting go of any inhibition that might have still been lingering in your mind. You just wanted to focus on this man, who just happened to desire you so, and wanted to please you while he satiated himself simultaneously.
And everything felt so heavenly, you moaned over and over, unashamed, as you got closer to the edge for the second time that night.

Also…
… Just bc I feel bad saying I was lukewarm about him in my other tags… I do like Ichigo. He's one of the more well rounded shonen protags in that he's actually allowed to fail from time to time and while he's overly powerful, isn't treated as the super ultimate power, necessarily. He just happens to be a weird chimera of powers that allows him to to do things people of one aspect can't necessarily do.
And he doesn't insist he's the most powerful either. Him chronically trying to help everyone is his nature, not him looking down on them. He respects the powers of all the Captains and his friends, he just wants to help.
And everyone else is allowed to be strong, too. Kenpachi is an absolute wild card, and I think Byakuya's also up there (not favouritism, I swear—okay, maybe a little bit) if he's fighting without being conflicted (I've come to theorise that first big fight between them would have gone on longer/differently except Byakuya didn't really have his heart in it, he'd just convinced himself he did), Hitsugaya's got a massively powerful sword and he's probably just going to keep getting stronger. Renji and Rukia achieve their own bankais and defeat enemies on their own. Ikkaku and Yumichika are no slouches, either. Despite some questionable writing, Orihime is allowed to be strong as well, having powerful defence and healing abilities, and her kindness is often treated as a strength. Her having no killing intent isn't treated as a bad thing. You've got Shunsui, Ukitake, and bloody Yamato in the mix. Uryuu fights on even footing with plenty of super powered enemies, and though he does go out of focus, Chad is never made out to be the weakest or anything.
Like I liked that in the end, they defeated the overpowered invincible big bad through teamwork the Old Men Brigade set things up, and then even Ichigo couldn't get a hit in until Uryuu used what their fathers made to help (and I'm glad that it was Ichigo and Uryuu working together, bc that was super poetic).
I'm just rambling now, but the point is, Ichigo is a good example of making powerful protag who doesn't (always) come off as too overpowered.
It's often treated as more he happened to be the right combination of things or the right circumstances to prevail. Wasn't hypnotised, already had a little hollow in him, is just really bloody stubborn. He's also just a nice guy! He cares about people he befriends and will work his ass off to help them bc that's his belief.
Anyway, to complete in another direction (sort of), I was thinking about this bc of how when he reaches the Soul Society in the blood war arc, the first thing he does after getting Akon to help is go to see Byakuya. Probably bc he saw that Rukia and Renji were unconscious and Byakuya was fading, and probably knew he'd want to now they were alive, but like. While they're not personally very close, I do think Byakuya is one of the Captains Ichigo is closest to bc he's so close w/ Rukia and Renji. Just by virtue of that, he'll end up interacting w/ Byakuya more often. And he does respect him (I think he got over the 'I'll kill you' the moment Byakuya took Gin's sword for Rukia). He goes to check on him, and reassures him that Rukia and Renji are alive, even saying 'don't worry.' Like I said before, I totally think he would have lied there, if they hadn't been, bc he'd be well aware that information would completely break Byakuya. He thinks he's dying, he wouldn't leave him thinking he'd completely failed to protect them. But more to the point, he doesn't respond after Byakuya talks about how ashamed he is and begs him to help. He responds to the first question, but goes silent after that. And…
I love tranquil fury. I love it. I love this moment bc Ichigo's already fuming from sensing/hearing everyone being hurt. He's already super pissed. But to me there's some thing about the way he goes silent during that talk that feels like a switch is well and truly flipped at that moment. After that, he doesn't stop or pass go, just heads directly to Yhwach and is clearly completely enraged.
Bc until then, there's been a little bit of distance. He's angry bc he could hear it, he's even angrier when he gets in there and sees what's happening, but then he goes over to Byakuya and has one of the strongest, proudest, most level headed and noble people he knows break down in tears and beg him, while apparently dying, for help. The one who had previously told him that none of the Captains would ever need his help.
And that just hits the unstoppable rage button.

Get to know me?
So I was (almost) tagged by @bleachbleachbleach. I saw it, thank you so much!
Tag whoever you want to get to know better!
I want to tag @bleached-socks, @electronicwitchcollection and @zabimarushoney67 because these are the blogs I know least about, I think, and I would love to get to know everyone better!
Three ships: Since I am pretty much a BABY in the world of fandoms, I didn't write any YET. But I do intend to write some, because I ship these pairs so hard: Renji/Rukia (because these two buffoons are made for eachother), Zaraki/Unohana (because their story story left me bawling my eyes out), Kisuke/Yoruichi (this one is very obvious) (and I'm very hooked on the very-borderline platonic relationship between Ikakku and Yumichika) (I hope this answer counts, all of them are like that, sorry)
First ship: When it comes to anime, the first was definitely Edward/Winry (when it comes to anything else, it was Jack Sparrow/Elizabeth, sorry)
Last song: It was a live lofi video on youtube for a few hours(helps with writing my fanfic). (to say an actual song before that, probably Poor Man's Poison- Feed the Machine or Kaleo-Broken Bones)
Last film: It was probably How High (2001), I think
Currently reading: I'm in the middle of The Last Hours series by Cassandra Clare. I love the shadowhunters universe in these books (even if I really don't like the tv series AT ALL). I'm almost done with the second book and I'll have to wait for the third book to be sold in my native language.
Currently watching: Nothing (wow, talking about anti-climactic). But really, I just finished Bleach this month for the first time (not to mention how hard I binge watched it, finished it in like a month and a half) and I am NOT emotionally ready to start something new. I am still mourning. But it is on my to-do list to watch Jujutsu Kaisen as soon as I recover from the scars Bleach left me with.
Currently consuming: A cigarette and a frappe (i know, i know, but I just ate some bomb noodles a few hours ago)
Currently craving: Honestly some better drawing skills so I can FINALLY draw my OC the way I want it. And more Bleach content, obviously, the hyperfixation is at its peak and I don't know what to do with it.

Get to Know People Better Tag Game
Okay I honestly wasn't expecting to be tagged in something like this, but I'm kind of excited. Thanks, @graysparrowao3
Just in case it gets a bit lengthy, and to save your dashboards (especially if on mobile), I put it under a cut.
Three ships: Only 3? I ship more things than FedEx, UPS, and Amazon combined. Putting my OC x Canon Character ships aside, I'll go with the first three ships I can think of off the top of my head
Bex and Danis from Baldur's Gate 3. These two are so fucking adorable every interaction with them has me squealing internally. I want only the best for them. Doing a full murder run/embrace the dark urge run eventually is gonna hurt like hell, especially with these two.
Yumichika Ayasegawa and Ikkaku Madarame from Bleach. Whether you ship them platonically or romantically, you gotta admit they've got a fantastic thing going on.
Tamaki Suoh and Haruhi Fujioka from Ouran High School Host Club. Honestly, the only reason I listed this is because I'm currently talking with my bestie about Ouran and it popped into my head.
First ship: I had to really think about this, and am gonna go with first ship I shipped while being aware of what shipping even was: Rocketshipping (Jessie x James) from Pokemon. Those two idiots need each other.
Last Song: Hot to Go by Chappell Roan. It is fun to scream-sing while driving home from work.
Last Movie: Last movie I remember sitting down and watching in its entirety is The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. It was fun to watch.
Currently Reading: A metric shit ton of BG3 fanfiction. Also trying to get into Dungeon Meshi/Delicious in Dungeon via the manga just because it keeps popping up on my dash.
Currently Watching: Random YouTube shorts. Whatever pops up.

Ikkaku mirrored Nnoitra's grin. Was he sure? Seemed like Nnoitra was giving him an out at the last minute, just in case. But Ikkaku had never been known for backing out of his offers and he wasn't about to start now. So he nodded as he peeled the tape from his hands. "'course I'm sure ! Like I said.. Got the place to myself." And even when Yumi had been home they'd shared a bedroom, so he had a spare anyway. Though he was sure Yumichika wouldn't be thrilled to have a roommate. So.. He supposed the offer was only good until Yumichika returned. Better make sure Nnoitra was aware of that.
"Can't give ya a good timeframe, though. Could be months, could be a year.. Dunno exactly. Kinda depends on how well Yumi does, I suppose." Shamefully, Ikkaku had found himself wishing Yumi would just fail at times. Just so that he would return home. But he'd get over himself again every time and make sure to text him lots to make himself feel better about it all. "But hey," he continued, "at least it'll give ya some time ta get on yer feet while ya figure out whatcha gonna do with yer livin' situation an' stuff.." Moving out when you'd been living with your partner for a while.. That must be such a hassle..
Something else occurs to him, but he grabs his bottle and gulps down some water instead of addressing it. Maybe Nnoitra would change his mind anyway.. He'd made it very clear he didn't want to be associated with anything 'gay', right? Living with a guy that was attracted other guys { or, well.. One in particular, really }. That didn't mesh well with that. Then again, maybe Nnoitra just wanted to keep it a secret if they lived together. That wouldn't really be a problem..
"So, whaddaya say?"
It was a really generous offer, and Nnoitra was going to take it. It didn’t bother him that there wasn’t an exact timeframe, because months was PLENTY of time. There was no way he’d spend that much time finding a place for himself. But, at least now he didn’t have to rush to find somewhere to live. He could take his time and be a bit more picky. ❝ Then ya got yerself a roommate. ❞ Nnoitra grinned. It was surprisingly nice to have a friend who thought enough of him to actually want to help him out like this. He hadn’t thought him and Ikkaku were that close, but - apparently they were. A nice surprise.
Tumblr media
❝ I’mma tag along after work ‘ta’night ‘n check out yer place. ❞ To see how much of his stuff he could bring. Not that he really HAD much. He had no furniture or large objects so it should be fine. He was curious to see where Ikkaku lived. Hopefully it was closer to work than his and Grimmjow’s place had been. Not that Nnoitra minded the walk. When he looked for a new place, should he try to find someplace close to work? But that would mean it would have to be in the not-so-great part of the city. He had kinda gotten used to a nicer part of town, and it was certainly great for his paranoia not to live in a dangerous neighborhood. Of course, it would also be a matter of what he could afford. He hadn’t checked his finances in ages, so he didn’t even know how much money he had. MAN what a fucking hassle this would be. More so than he had thought. It made him really thankful that Ikkaku was helping him out. ❝ Yer a real life saver. ❞ His way of saying thank you very much.

Tokusatsu Au where Rukia plays the lead actress in a superhero action show. Renji plays one of the villains and they are The most popular ship in the fandom. Bonus points if Orihime plays the main villain and loves every second of it.
This was the very first prompt I got, and I fell in love. Unfortunately, aside from a brief period of being grotesquely fascinated with Power Rangers as teen, I know almost nothing about tokusatsu. I did as much research as I could and I attempted to watch an episode of Kamen Rider, but my eyes glazed over halfway through. Anyway, please forgive my inaccuracies, I wrote this with my heart.

“Uh, looks like we’re almost out of time,” the panel moderator for “High-Spirited Battle Clairvoyant Tomoe!: A Sneak Peak at Season 5” declared, “but would you be willing to take just a few audience questions?”
Head Screenwriter Kurosaki Ichigo glanced at Leading Actress Kuchiki Rukia out of the corner of his eye, and she gave a tiny nod.
“Yeah, sure!” he replied.
There was already a young woman waiting at the microphone, practically vibrating with anxiety. She was wearing a t-shirt that had ZabiTo4Ever!! handwritten in marker on it. Rukia knew, deep down in her bones, what the question was going to be.
“Hi, yes, hello, big fan of your work! My question is: are Tomoe and Zabimaru going to kiss this season?”
“No,” Rukia started to say.
“As you probably know,” Ichigo said loudly on top of her, “the show holds close to the core plot points of Kuna-sensei’s manga, although, because of her minimalist style, we do expand a lot of the dialogue and filler scenes. She has said in several interviews that High-Spirited Battle Clairvoyant Tomoe! is not a romance manga, so the odds of Tomoe and Zabimaru ever kissing on screen are very, very low.”
The young woman stared at Ichigo grumpily. “Does this also count Zabimaru’s secret college student identity, Satonako Takeru?”
Ichigo stared back at her. “Yes. It does.”
The next question came from a person wearing a full suit of HellKnight’s plasma armor made out of overlapping plates of cardboard. Rukia was kind of impressed by it. She wondered if he could sit down.
“Hi, Kurosaki-sensei, I am a huge fan of your work,” a voice emanated from deep within the cardboard. “I was wondering if you are influenced at all by fanworks, and if Episode 73: Pride is on the Line!: The Bake Sale Must Go On! was based in any way on the classic fanfiction, ‘Tell Me All Your Best Lies’? It’s the top story by kudos in the ZabiTo tag, which I might point out is the most popular shipping category on AO3.”
Ichigo cleared his throat gently. “I am contractually not allowed to read fanfiction, although I do enjoy fanart! There are some incredibly talented artists in the fandom, although for some reason, no one ever wants to draw pictures of Lead Screenwriters.”
“I’ll draw you, sleeping on the set like you always do,” Rukia offered, and that got a pretty big laugh. Rukia’s Tumblr of behind-the-scenes doodle comics was beloved among the fandom.
The next question was from a nonbinary person wearing a big poufy skirt and a hairstyle that would make their make-up and hair guru, Yumichika, sit up and take notice. “Hi, this is a question for Kuchiki-san! If the show is going to roughly keep pace with the manga, as it has done up until now, you should be shooting the storyline where Tomoe and Queen Bloodbuzz switch bodies later this year. I was wondering if you could comment on how you feel about filming that storyline?”
Finally! A good one! “Yes!” Rukia nodded eagerly. “I don’t usually like to speak for my fellow cast members, but Orihime and I are beyond excited about playing each other. We’ve been studying each other’s mannerisms and practicing already! Does anyone want to hear my Queen Bloodbuzz cackle?” She wagged her eyebrows as the audience cheered. “Here goes-- bwaHaHaHaHAHAHAHAAHAAAHAAAAAAAA!”
“Bonechilling,” Ichigo commented dryly as the audience erupted.
“Amazing, Kuchiki-san!” the moderator exclaimed. “I think there is time for one more, but this will be the last question!”
A tall girl in a full set of High-Spirited Battle Clairvoyant Tomoe motorcycle leathers stepped to the microphone. She was holding a notebook. “Hello!” she warbled. “In a 2020 interview with the Psychics and Sidekicks podcast, Abarai Renji was asked about his opinion on ZabiTo as a ship, and he replied,” she consulted her notebook, “‘Tomoe is such a cool lady and talented Battle Clairvoyant, and she always follows her heart and stays true to herself. I think that Zabimaru can’t help but be impressed with her, even though they’re enemies, and I always try to roll that into our on-screen interactions.’ I know that in the past you’ve refused to comment on the ship, but I was wondering if you had any thoughts on, y’know, his thoughts?”
“Well, he’s correct, of course, Tomoe is very cool and admirable,” Rukia replied, which drew a few laughs, although it seemed like the audience was leaning forward in anticipation of her answer. “Like I said, I don’t like to speak for other cast members. I’ll be doing a big cast panel with Abarai and Inoue and Matsumoto and Ukitake tomorrow afternoon, and I hope you all can make it! See you then!”
The moderator thanked them enthusiastically, and then Ichigo and Rukia slipped out the back guest entrance.
“Evasive as always, Kuchiki,” Ichigo teased.
“Whatever,” Rukia sniffed. “The higher ups say we’re not supposed to comment on stuff like that, and I was not commenting. By the way, how many secret fanfic accounts are you up to? Four?”
“It’s only three!” Ichigo paused. “I wrote that fanfic the guy brought up.”
“Of course you did,” Rukia sighed. “I do blame you personally for the popularity of the damn ship.”
“Me? Blame Kuna for making up two such sexy, emotionally constipated dumbasses!” Ichigo defended.
“Also, it’s not Ichigo’s fault that you and Abarai have insane chemistry.”
Rukia spun around, grinning. “Orihime!”
Rukia’s two co-stars, Inoue Orihime and Abarai Renji, the portrayers of Tomoe’s demonic archnemeses, stood in the hallway behind them.
“We sat in on your panel!” Orihime beamed. “You two were brilliant!”
“Don’t worry,” Renji added. “We were incognito.”
“Incognito” was relative, Rukia supposed, when you were at Tokyo’s biggest tokusatsu
convention.
Orihime was wearing a Zabimaru outfit so detailed that she probably could have won a prize down at the cosplay hall. She had the gravity-defying ponytail, the eyeliner, the insane widow's peak (complete with forehead tatts), the fangs, the motorcycle boots. The paper mache snake skull helmet was a little lopsided, but it was charming. She had her top zipped a little higher than canon, but that was forgivable, too.
Renji had taken the opposite tack of looking as much like a normal person-- or at least a normal Battle Clairvoyant Tomoe superfan-- as possible. Relaxed fit jeans and an oversized hoodie de-emphasized his ultra-fit physique. He was wearing a t-shirt with a very dramatic rendering of Orihime that said “Queen Bloodbuzz can step on me!” and a ball cap with the logo of Seireitei University, the fictional college Tomoe and Takeru attended.
“You think you’re in disguise,” Rukia pointed out, “but there are thousands of teen girls in this place with entire Tumblrs dedicated to your stupid face when you’re out of costume.”
Renji cocked an eyebrow at her. “You underestimate me, Rukia. I have bought… new sunglasses.” With a flourish, he whipped out a pair of the dorkiest wayfarers she’d ever seen, and flipped them onto his face. “I’ve disappeared! Who am I? Where am I?”
“You look really great, Orihime,” Ichigo said, his cheeks coloring a little bit. “Did you get Uryuu or Yumichika to help you with that costume?” In his continuing theme of doing things he wasn’t supposed to, Ichigo had finally started dating Orihime on the downlow around the time they finished up filming last season. It had done absolutely nothing for how shy he still got around her. They were, in Rukia’s opinion, cute as hell.
“Oh, no, that would be cheating!” Orihime replied, wagging a finger at him. “Well…maybe I did cheat, just a tiny bit. Renji helped me make the helmet and he held up references for me while I was painting on the tattoos.”
“Only the forehead ones,” Renji quickly added.
“He wouldn’t even offer feedback on my booby tattoos!” Orihime frowned. She leaned forward. “Rukia, how do they look?”
Ichigo turned even redder.
“Perfect, as in all you do!” Rukia replied loftily.
“What’s everyone got coming up next?” Renji asked. “I was thinking of slipping out and trying to pick up some real coffee.”
“I’m judging a villainess-themed cosplay competition,” Orihime chirped. “But I’m dying for a blueberry caramel iced latte. Renji, my henchman, pleeeeease!”
“Of course, my liege,” Renji replied in his Zabimaru voice.
It’s not like it had been a hard decision to accept the role of the motorcycle-riding, badass heroine of one of the most popular manga of the last decade, but it had turned out to be one of the best decisions of Rukia’s life. not just her career. Aside from a few of the money-obsessed executives, she liked nearly everyone in the cast and crew, but the fact that the fact that the ruthless, homicidal, literally Hell-spawned villains of the show were played by the two sweetest marshmallow people she had ever met just took the cake. Renji and Orihime had already known each other from some voicework they had done previously, and their excitement at working together on a live-action project had infected the entire cast from the start. Rukia wasn’t sure, but she strongly suspected that Renji was the one who had hyped Orihime up to ask Ichigo out.
“I have a writers’ workshop I’m moderating this afternoon, and I wanted to review the writing samples people sent in,” Ichigo said, scratching the back of his head. “I’d love to stop by that cosplay contest, though, at least for a few minutes.”
“You’ll be needing caffeine, too, then, eh?” Renji offered. “Hot, black, and in the largest cup they make, as usual?”
“Ugh, you’re the best,” Ichigo groaned. “You wanna power-up this season? Costume update? You know what? Maybe I’ll just have you defeat Tomoe once and for all, no one likes her anyway.”
“C’mon, you know I’m the world’s number one Tomoe simp, don’t do that!” Renji laughed.
Rukia rolled her eyes. “I’m free and I could use some fresh air. Besides, it’s going to take all your dumb muscles just to carry Kurosaki’s vat of coffee back here.”
“Cool!” Renji proclaimed. “We’ll be back soon!”
“Thanks, Renjiiiii!” Orihime waved.
“You need to stop off and put on a disguise?” Renji asked.
“No point in it, I always get recognized,” Rukia sighed, pulling her sunglasses out of her purse anyway.
“Here,” Renji said, plunking his hat on her head. “Maybe this will help.”
“Thanks,” Rukia replied, and then did a double take. “Whaaaaaat is on your head?”
“Shut up!” Renji laughed. He usually shaved his head when they were filming, because it made it easier to deal with the make-up and wigs, but since they were between seasons, he’d grown his hair out into a short, tousled mop of reddish-brown waves. He looked, for the lack of a better word, dreamy. “I shot a movie over the summer, and they wanted me to look softer.”
Rukia looked at him over the top of her sunglasses. “You didn’t tell me you were doing a movie!”
“Oh, it was just a little indy romcom thing. I wasn’t sure it was gonna pan out, I didn’t want to make a big deal out of it.”
“You were in a romcom? You’re kidding me!” They ducked out of a side door of the convention center into the bright sunshine.
“Yeah, it’s about a guy who goes to the gym to try to get ripped to impress a girl, and makes friends with me, this nice, already ripped dude who gives him lifting tips and encourages him a bunch. By the end of the movie, it turns out we have crushes on each other.”
“Oh, no, that sounds really cute, actually!”
“It was written by a woman who graduated from one of Ichigo’s writing workshops. The script was really snappy and Ichigo thought having someone like me as the gym guy would give it just a bit of campy cachet. You know what a good sense he’s got for stuff like that.”
“That was cool of you to go out on a limb a little,” Rukia replied.
Renji rubbed the back of his neck. “I’d been wanting to try something like that for a while, actually.”
Rukia blinked. “You aren’t… you aren’t thinking of leaving the show, are you?”
“Huh? No. No! No, the show means the world to me, I would never. But… it’s not gonna run forever, y’know?”
“I would have guessed you’d want to be a big action star or something!” Rukia said, throwing a few air punches. “That’s my dream!”
Renji stuffed his hands in the pockets of his hoodie. “Yeah, that’s what I thought I wanted when I first got into acting. I’d read the Tomoe manga, and I thought playing Zabimaru would be a good jumping-off point, besides just being a cool character overall.”
“Is that… not true?” Rukia frowned.
“Oh, I mean, I guess so! I didn’t really know about the fandom, though and… to be honest, I’m kinda into the idea that there are all these fans who think I’m complex and redeemable?”
Rukia regarded him out of the corner of her eye. “They just want to fix you.”
“Maybe! Ichigo made me read this one fanfic that was eight thousand words of the reader getting sick and Zabimaru making them soup? And feeding them the soup? I still haven’t decided how I feel about it.”
“How does he have time to find these things? Does he even sleep?”
“Anyway, it doesn’t hurt to be well-rounded and it was fun. I’m still mostly an action guy, but I wouldn’t mind doin’ something with a romantic subplot. A period drama or something like that. I look pretty good in hakama, you know.”
“I bet you do,” Rukia laughed. She squinted at him, but his expression was unreadable behind the shades. Renji didn’t have the classic leading man looks, not like her ridiculously famous older brother, but she could definitely see him as the best friend, the B-plot romance, with his cute, messy hair and that big doofy grin.
“By the way, I’m sorry you had to field that question about me spilling my romantic sensibilities on that podcast.”
Rukia laughed. “You didn’t even answer the question, either! These people are relentless!”
Renji stopped at a street corner and peered down the various possible directions they could go. “Which way feels like it might have a coffee shop?”
“You didn’t have one in mind before we left? I thought you knew where we were going!”
“Nah, I just like to go out and see what there is.”
“I can look up a map,” Rukia said, reaching in her bag for her phone.
“Let’s just go this way,” Renji said, stepping out into the street in the direction that had the WALK light. Rukia sighed and had to scramble to catch up with him.
“So, what do you think about it?”
“Huh?” Rukia asked. “Think about what?”
“Our ship. ZabiTo.”
“I can’t believe you just said that word out loud. And you know we’re not supposed to give our opinion on it!”
“Aw, c’mon, we’re not supposed to give public statements on our opinions. I don’t think there’s any harm in talking between ourselves. We’re in disguise, even.”
“‘Disguise’,” Rukia sniffed.
“You don’t like it, I can tell.”
“He’s a bad guy! Everyone always talks about chemistry, and that may be true, but I just don’t think that Tomoe could ever get over his acts of violence and cruelty.”
“Queen Bloodbuzz is cruel. Zabimaru is not cruel.”
“Okay, that’s fair, but still. He’s kidnapped just about all of Tomoe’s friends and or turned them into monsters at one time or another. He’s always setting Karakura Town on fire or flooding it with magic lizard goo. He ruined the sports festival.”
“Maybe the sports festival deserved to be ruined,” Renji muttered under his breath.
“Okay, you’ve got a point on that one,” Rukia admitted.
“It’s really clear though, that he’s got some agenda beyond just simping for Queen Bloodbuzz--”
“The simping for Queen Bloodbuzz is the most relatable thing about him, to be honest.”
“Granted. But, what if he’s got a good reason for everything he does, actually? What if he’s doing all of this against his own moral code as a means of infiltrating Hell itself and getting himself into a position of trust so that he can bring down the Lords of Hell from the inside?”
Rukia slipped her sunglasses down to the tip of her nose. “Does Kuna give you Zabimaru spoilers?” The reclusive creator High-Spirited Battle Clairvoyant Tomoe! was only barely involved with the television show, but she did privately meet with each of the cast members about once a year. Most of Rukia’s meetings consisted of Kuna giving her constructive criticism on her battle poses.
“No, mostly we practice sneering,” Renji replied. “But I gotta play the guy, so I gotta think about this, you know, what motivates him? I mean, you’re probably right, it would never work out. But unlike Tomoe, whose principles would call for her to ignore any attraction she has to him, Zabimaru has the freedom to pine for her, perhaps because his love is futile and he doesn’t think he deserves it anyway.”
“That’s kinda dark, dude,” Rukia frowned.
“Yes, well, that is the kind of character acting that netted me the 2019 Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Best Villain Award, Foreign Language Category.”
“That’s literally what’s going through your head when you’re shouting that if I can’t make some sick motorcycle jump, you’ll turn all my friends into stuffed animal versions of themselves?”
“No, of course not! At those times I’m thinking about how much I love my job. OH! and what is that I see!” Renji struck an extremely Zabimaru pose. “A MISTER DONUT!”
“My hero!” Rukia exclaimed, unable to resist an opportunity to shout dramatically. “I’m sorry I doubted you!”
“I think we should get some donuts, too. Orihime loves donuts,” Renji declared.
“Oh, for sure,” Rukia agreed. She was thoughtful for a moment. It would be easy to move on to a different subject, the subject being donuts, but she wasn’t happy with leaving the last conversation hanging. “Look, Renji, just because I don’t like the dumb ship, you know that’s not a reflection on you, right?”
“Huh?” Renji replied. “You mean you don’t mind if I like it?”
“Well… I mean, I don’t, I guess, but what I really meant was, er… we joke a lot, but Tomoe and Zabimaru are just parts, y’know? Just because I don’t think Zabimaru isn’t good boyfriend material doesn’t mean I…” Rukia trailed off, suddenly realizing what she was saying. “Um. What I mean is. You’re very nice and probably one of my favorite people I’ve ever worked with and if someone I knew wanted to ask you out, I would definitely encourage them to, A+ guy, I’d say, probably would make a great boyfriend.”
Renji pushed his sunglasses up onto his forehead and regarded her for a long moment. “For the record, Kuchiki, I think that both you and Tomoe would make excellent girlfriend material.” While Rukia stood there and gaped like a fish, he turned and pushed open the door to the coffee shop. “Ichigo likes crullers and Orihime always wants the most colorful thing they’ve got. Do you know what you want?”
“I need to think about it,” Rukia squeaked. She wasn’t talking about donuts.

PAIRING: Kenpachi/AFAB!Reader CONTENTS: AU - Fantasy, Medieval, Royalty, Arranged Marriage, Misunderstandings, Miscommunication, Pining, Explicit Sexual Content in later chapters. WARNING FOR THIS CHAPTER: Mentions of mild blood and minor violence. WORDCOUNT: 3404
Summary:
Despite your first hand experience, it was getting difficult to admit to yourself that Kenpachi wasn’t actually as bad as he initially seemed. He was violent and obsessed with fighting, that was obvious and even more so when you started living there, but he had never treated you roughly. Not even a single word out of place towards you, less alone one threatening action.
Notes:
I struggle writing this chapter a bit, confrontations are hard lmao but they are always necessary and i'm glad we can move on to sexier parts now!

The night was beautiful. It had been raining days prior, and you couldn’t wait to go for a walk in the garden that night. It was the only alone time you had, with no maids trailing behind your every move, not when they didn’t notice you sneaking off.
You rarely went past the trees signaling the limit of the palace. The forest was on the other side, and people rarely went too deep into it, knowing what kind of magical creatures existed was enough to ward anyone off.
You only wanted to explore a little, not enter the woods completely, but as soon as you took two steps into it, something felt off.
The first thing you heard was a distant howl, before a gust of air threw you down onto the ground. Your vision got blurry, heat covering your body as claws tightly held onto your arm, digging into your flesh. You couldn’t even scream, completely confused as to what was even happening, and who or what was even attacking you. Blood trickled down your arm, and that was when you could finally let out a shaky cry.
Whatever was holding you suddenly dropped you, and you fell with your back against the dirt, breathing heavily as the world stopped spinning rapidly enough so you could open your eyes and focus.
You gasped loudly at the sight above you; an enormous man with an eyepatch and a scar across his face standing in front of you, holding a sword. Half his face covered in blood, making your body shiver in fear.
You barely crawled away before feeling too weak to keep moving, heart beating fast inside your ribcage, and you kept your eyes on the man in front of you, holding onto what was left of your consciousness as you heard far away voices resonating around you.
“Captain Zaraki just saved a girl!”
“Was that a werewolf?!”
“That’s the princess!”
“We need to get her back to the castle!”
You woke up, feeling hot and sweaty under the blankets, gasping for air at the flashback you had for a dream.
That was the day Kenpachi saved you, the day you met him for the first time. It was embarrassing to even remember, as you had been more afraid of him than you had been of the actual creature that had harmed you. Albeit you hadn’t actually seen the werewolf. You only found that Kenpachi had sliced him in two once you woke up a few days later and one of the maids informed you about it.
You still didn’t know what to think of that experience, only that it made your blood run cold at times.
It has been a couple of weeks since you had moved to the castle, and the days passed by easily. You didn’t feel as tense as the first few days, when you were still testing the waters of the place.
Yachiru was actually a good company, despite her short age. She was vivacious and gave you strength and hope with her every move. You even met Ikkaku and Yumichika one night while you took a walk through the gardens, and even though they weren’t as strong as Kenpachi (not that you cared, but they let you know the fact nonetheless), they were much easier to talk to than your husband was.
Once Kenpachi had given you permission to reorganize the garden (his exact words were ‘do whatever you want’), you focused solely on that, and as the early weeks of fall began, the weeds and overgrown grass had been removed completely. You knew it was a bad time to start planting seeds; if the cold in the first few days didn’t kill the plants, the snow might do that job once winter arrived. But you couldn’t wait; it was the only thing that kept you occupied.
As soon as you became more familiar with the castle, you realized there wasn’t a library or a banquet hall. Why would there be any of those rooms if Kenpachi did not seem like the type to enjoy those things? Nevertheless, you wanted to fix that, but in order to do that, you had to ask your husband about it, and you felt like you might be overstepping with such an expensive and ambitious project. The garden will have to be done for now, and once that part was done, you could move on to something bigger.
Yachiru was helping you a lot in her own way, spreading the seeds across the soil of the garden (and though you specifically told her not to mix them you knew she was doing it), and once you were done for the day, you headed back into the castle.
“Are we gonna do that again tomorrow?” She asked cheerfully, running across the entrance.
“Tomorrow we have another task for the garden, we have to water the soil, remember?” You said, looking at her with a smile. “We have to do that everyday, and hopefully flowers will bloom by spring!”
“We’ll have flowers by spring?” Yumichika asked, walking through the entrance along with Ikkaku.
“I am planning for that, however it does depend on the weather, and how crude these colder months are.” You replied with a soft smile. “I have faith that they will bloom!”
“Flowers never really grew in that place,” Ikkaku commented, looking at the still brand new garden through the window. “It was always full of weed, nobody really cared for it.”
“My mission is to make this place nicer! Once the garden is done, I wish to create a ballroom!”
“You want a ballroom?” Kenpachi's deep voice resonated from behind you, making you jump. “Why?”
“Well… So people can come over…” You replied quietly, turning around to face him with unsure eyes.
“Come over for what?” His frown got deeper and it only made you more nervous.
“For socializing! Dancing and eating, mostly.” You replied, confused and slightly irritated. “Is that not to your taste?”
“We never had dances!” Yachiru replied, loud and joyful. “I bet it’s super fun!”
It was your turn to frown when you heard him sigh like he was annoyed before he spoke.
“I will never understand women.”
An uncomfortable feeling raised inside you, more rapidly than you expected when you noticed from the corner of your eye that Ikkaku was looking at the both of you with eyes wide open, and Yumichika had covered his face with his palm.
Embarrassed and frustrated, you couldn’t contain it even if you tried.
“And I do not understand you.” You spat, looking up at Kenpachi as if he wasn’t twice your size. “Are you going to deny this to me? It is your right to do so, but this would not even be an issue if we were not married. You could have vehemently said no to this union, even escape from it! So I might as well enquire why exactly did you accept it? I was the one who had no choice!”
You kept your eyes on his for a moment as he stared at you, wide eyed, as if you had sprouted another head.
Not interested in listening to whatever that could have been said, you ran out of the castle towards the garden.
*
Kenpachi stood there looking at you as you got smaller the further you ran, and was only brought back to the present time by Yachiru’s voice.
“Dumb Kenny.” Yachiru commented, way too loud for Kenpachi’s taste, but he only turned to look at her, confused and annoyed. She paid him no mind and only ran up down the hall towards the kitchen.
“What in the hell…” He grunted, unsure of what to do. Under any circumstances, he would start a fight, but even he knew that was a terrible idea.
“Captain,” Yumichika called for him, making Kenpachi turn to him. “With all due respect, you are an idiot.”
“What?” Kenpachi practically growled, but Yumichika went on despite the threatening tone.
“This girl is alone here, with no friends, no one she can confide in, and you just made her feel more alienated than ever. She had no choice in coming here, and she cannot leave at her own free will either. I suggest you actually tell her the truth.”
“What the hell are you talking about?”
“You have affection for her, don’t you?” Yumichika asked softly, not really expecting an answer. “Go talk to her and tell her the truth. She will say she doesn’t want to talk, but pay it no mind. She’ll want to know.”
“How do you even know that?” Ikkaku asked, arching an eyebrow.
“I actually have the emotional range of a human being.” Yumichika rolled his eyes.
“Shut up.” Kenpachi grumbled, pondering on the idea of actually telling you how he was feeling for a while before deciding it was the right thing to do. “Fine, whatever.”
Walking out the entrance and towards the garden, he tried to organize his thoughts. It wasn’t like he was a complete prick; he knew what could be insulting to say, he simply didn’t care for those things. But apparently you had been uncomfortable since the moment you’ve been declared husband and wife.
Kenpachi hadn’t actually thought about anything regarding your life and feelings, simply because he hadn’t paid too much attention to details beyond what you had shown him. He had even let you have the bedroom all for yourself because he assumed you were terrified of him; the way you looked at him the first time you met spoke volumes. And even occasionally you seemed petrified whenever he was around, even after you’ve been in the castle for weeks.
It had pissed him off to hear you talk about him behind his back the way you had, though it probably came from a place of fear rather than arrogance, no matter that you moved around like the princess you were. That lovely bit of confidence he saw in you when you still lived in the palace diminished terribly when you moved to his castle, or at least around him it did, and he wasn’t going to keep contributing to it.
Out in the garden, Kenpachi spotted you underneath a tree, sitting on the ground with your knees to your chest.
It was time for a little truth.
“I do not wish to speak to you.” You said, voice shaky, as soon as you noticed he was nearby.
Kenpachi didn’t get any closer, but he spoke, regardless of what you said.
“Just shut up and listen.” He sentenced, making you turn your head slightly to the side, enough so he could see your glossy eyes. Trying to pay it no mind, he went on. “I know marrying me wasn’t your choice. I was greedy. I didn’t want to refuse that opportunity so I didn’t really put up a fight when your father told me to marry you, even when you made it clear that you think I’m a barbarian. I didn’t care.”
Your frown and sniffle distracted him momentarily, especially when your eyes kept avoiding his. You had turned to face him, but you weren’t actually looking at him at all.
“I hate how you keep looking at me, like I’m going to kill you at any given chance.” Kenpachi admitted through gritted teeth. “I didn’t really think about how this marriage would affect you so if you wish to leave and go back to the palace, I’ll make it happen.”
He spared you one last glance at you before turning away, when it was clear you wouldn’t respond to his words. You seemed even smaller, and the way you briefly looked at him before he left made you look powerless.
*
You stared at Kenpachi as he walked away, surprised and confused, trying to focus on one of the things that he said at a time.
He was being greedy? About what, exactly? It wasn’t like was using the dowry money to expand his fief. He didn’t even want you to expand the castle at all. His greediness did not involve money, so why did he say that?
You didn’t think it was so noticeable how afraid of him you were, even if it was a fleeting feeling at times. You couldn’t help it; he was imposing and his constant aggressive expression made it impossible for you to see him differently. It had a lot to do with that night when you first met, when he saved you. He hasn’t been the one who hurt you, but your mind just couldn’t fully dissociate what actually happened with the bloodlust he had in his eyes when he looked at you. On top of it all, he heard you calling him a ‘barbarian’ when you were trying to talk your father out of this marriage.
However, despite your first hand experience, it was getting difficult to admit to yourself that Kenpachi wasn’t actually as bad as he initially seemed. He was violent and obsessed with fighting, that was obvious and even more so when you started living there, but he had never treated you roughly. Not even a single word out of place towards you, less alone one threatening action.
Not to mention the fact that he adopted a small girl he found in the woods, and the undying loyalty of his men revealed a lot about what kind of person he was. And he had even let you sleep by yourself every night since you got there, knowing your discomfort.
Maybe it was time to make amends.
Waiting for Kenpachi that night, you paced around in your nightgown, hoping he’d come to the room after dinner. He usually did even if he didn’t spend the night, so you were ready to talk to him once he got there.
When the door opened, you looked at him, feeling slightly intimidated. He had the same hard expression he usually wears, but it was starting to feel natural to see him that way, so you immediately relaxed.
“I do not wish to go back to the palace.” You started promptly once the door was closed. Kenpachi remained impassive, only keeping his eyes on you once he removed the eyepatch. You gulped before going on. “I’m very comfortable here. I have to confess, you’ve treated me more like a person than anyone else might have done before, and I’m very thankful for that. And I’m… sorry, too.”
It was hard to read him at all, he only stared at you without moving a single muscle on his face, but somehow that was helpful enough to keep you talking.
“You saved my life, and I judged you horribly, without even attempting to know you. I insulted you and hurt your pride, so I must ask for your forgiveness.”
Looking down, you bowed at a ninety degree angle, staying still for a moment before returning to an upright position. You kept your eyes on the floor, waiting for him to say something, hopefully words of encouragement that would mean he accepted your apology, and that you could stay.
“You hurt my pride, huh?” Kenpachi’s gruff voice brought your eyes back up to meet his as he made his way towards you; it surprised you that he was smirking. “Is that what you think you did?”
“I think so… Weren’t my words insulting?”
“For reasons you’re not seeing.” He paused, eying you up and down quickly as his smirk faded. “I didn’t care that I was probably offending you when I accepted your hand. Your father threatened me with my past, saying he would hand me over to another kingdom for the nobles I’ve killed when I was a mercenary.”
Your eyes opened wide at his words. You knew your father was a politician and a strategist before even being a father, but you couldn’t believe your ears. It was startling, but not unrealistic, that he had basically sold you to a murderer.
“But I couldn’t care less about that, he could have done it and I would have managed to get away anyway.” Kenpachi went on nonchalantly, looking to the side as if he hadn’t given any of the things he was saying a lot of thought. “The reason I ended up accepting your hand, the reason I was greedy, was you.”
“I don’t understand.”
“Your father offered you to me on a silver plate in exchange for my loyalty, and I accepted, just because I wanted to have you.”
You stared at him, bewildered.
Kenpachi wanted you? You had seen him for the first time that night you had been attacked in the woods, and you weren’t so vain as to think of yourself so charming that one look would suffice to capture a man’s heart, especially a man like Kenpachi, who seemed so ruthless and aggressive to even care about those kind of things. Even more so when you looked terrified at that moment.
If anything, you were sure that you couldn’t actually judge him based on his expressions if he was telling you he wanted you with such a stoic look.
His eyes were on you for a while, obviously awaiting a reaction, but as moments passed by in silence, he turned to leave, at which point you decided to speak.
“Wait!” You called for him, and Kenpachi turned to look at you. “Please stay. We’re husband and wife, we should sleep in the same bed, yes?”
“Aren’t you afraid of me?”
“I’m not-” Kenpachi snorted in disbelief, making you jolt in surprise. You slapped yourself mentally for the slip but went on. “I mean, I was, I won’t deny it! Nevertheless, you’ve been nothing but nice and considerate since I got here.”
His eyes stayed on you to the point where you started to feel self conscious, until he finally sighed and took long steps to approach you.
Everything about Kenpachi was intimidating; it was inevitable due to his size and expression. But after everything he had told you that day, nothing inside you made you anxious about him. If anything, you could see features that you might consider attractive (not that you didn’t notice them before, but fear and trepidation always won those battles). There was a rugged charm about him.
“You’re asking me to share a bed with you after everything I told you?” Kenpachi asked with a smirk. “Are you doing it on purpose?”
“You can do whatever you want with me, nothing I say could stop you,” You said, staring back at him, straining your neck in the process. “But you've been attentive enough to make me trust you.”
When his hand slid up your shoulder and into the hair in the back of your neck, it surprised you but not enough to make you react. You were curious about his intentions since he made it clear he desired you for a while.
“You have a lot of confidence for a tiny woman,” Kenpachi’s grin only grew, making you smile in return.
“It comes with the royalty title.” You shrugged. “It won’t change anytime soon.”
“I don’t want you to change.”
With a firm grip on your hair, Kenpachi leaned down and kissed you. You made a noise in surprise; he had practically pressed his face against yours, bumping your noses and roughly crashing your lips together. You held onto him, gripping the front of his shirt tightly, when he slid his tongue past your lips and into your mouth.
You could barely keep your legs from collapsing as he tasted every corner and every inch of your cavity. His desperation for you was palpable, and it made you all the more dizzy. It was difficult to even keep up with him, you were reduced to trembling legs and occasional gasps that left your mouth as you ran out of air.
If it wasn’t for the arm Kenpachi had slid around your waist, you would have fallen down once he pulled away. The lack of air had made you lightheaded, and your face felt impossibly hot.
Were kisses supposed to feel that good?
“Another.” You demanded once you’ve caught your breath, gazing at him with pleading eyes as you ran your hands up his tunic to bring him down again. “I demand another.”
With his usual cocky smirk, Kenpachi leaned down to kiss your lips once more. This time a little slower and gentler, but still just as eager.

What’s up y’all! I’ve been seeing quite a few people doing weekly read lists or general rec lists lately, and thought it looked like fun! Here’s some of my favorite fics, old and new, from all different fandoms!
The Darkest of Times by IAM_Kneazle/writing_as_tracey - Riverdale, Bughead, M, 193k, 24/24 chapters
I’ve not been active in the Riverdale fandom for a bit, and honestly I could stand for a good reread of this one, so I may gush about it again later, but it is such a standout to me! This is basically the first season of Riverdale set in the Harry Potter universe. HP AUs are a weakness of mine, especially when they’re as well-written as this! Alice was honestly one of my favorite parts of this fic; she’s so well done, so Slytherin!
family feud by @rappaccini - The Umbrella Academy, Fiveya/Alluther/Benkliego, T+, 11k, 1/1 chapter
Of the few TUA fics I’ve read, this one cracked me up the most, hands down. I can’t sum this up any better than rapp’s tags: yes incest, five hargreeves breaks the internet, the power of teenage hormones shuts down the academy. It is a glorious account of a very easily imagined interview with the Hargreeves siblings, in which a defiant Five and an oblivious Klaus start the snowball that becomes the avalanche of Harcest horrors coming to light. The dialogue is golden. The siblings are chaotic. The internet reactions are meta. You might need to lay down after this, but it’s very worth it.
The Newborn by fizzfics - Twilight, EdBella/canon Twilight couples, T, 218k, 62/? chapters
This is an AU where James turned Bella into a vampire while she lived in Phoenix, which prompts her to move to Forks with her father. Not only is the idea of this AU genius, it is also so in-depth in regards to the characters. Bella’s lack of experience as a vampire and the way she stumbles through discovering what she is until she meets the Cullens is amazing, and I can’t get over the adorable bonding scenes between Bella and Esme, or the amazing way the author writes Rosalie and her complicated story.
The Suit by @imlikat - Bleach, ChadIshi, E, 28k, 10/10 chapters
First of all, shout out to Kat for snaring me into this ship to begin with. Second, shout out to Kat for coming back into the fandom and bringing me new content that I didn’t have to write myself. All my love.
The Beating of Our Hearts (Is the Only Sound) by whiteduck6 - Bleach, IkkaYumi, M, 5k, 1/1 chapter
A sweet, slightly sad modern AU oneshot with Yumichika planning his and Ikkaku’s wedding. I’m a sucker for figure skater!Yumi, which is also included, and sewing master!Uryuu. The amount of thought put into this Yumichika is wonderful. He’s complex and his emotions about the wedding and Japan’s laws/views on homosexuality are beautifully written.
Rose Fangs and Wolf Thorns by @ouatlovr - ASOIAF/Game of Thrones, Sansaery, E, 1.4mil (yeah I’m fuckin’ serious), 514/514 chapters (sequel ongoing!)
On my AO3 bookmarks I’ve tagged this ambitious lesbians, and that’s pretty much it. The author takes Sansa, Margaery, and every other ASOIAF they write and explores every aspect of their characters, breaks them down and makes them expose their barest bones and hardest truths. Lots of crying came with reading this fic and it is one of my all time favorites. Heed the archive warnings!

THE BIG BLEACH HC MEME centering around politics, repost & fill out! For anyone who wanted to explore those aspects more, considering it played a big role in the story. Some things may be unknown to your Muse, just think in WHAT IF then & well, have fun and take your time!
BASICS
Name:   Giselle Gewelle    / / /    Age:   22    / / /    Gender:   female Race:   Shinigami / Quincy / Hollow / Fullbringer / Visored / Human / Other Currently lives:   Soul Society / Hueco Mundo / Silbern / Living World / Hell Exact Location: wouldn’t you like to know weather boy. Group(s): Sternritter
QUESTIONS
- Would your muse consider themselves more: GOOD / BAD / NEUTRAL ? - Would your muse consider their group more: GOOD / BAD / NEUTRAL ? - How does your muse think others see them: GOOD / EVIL / NEUTRAL ? - How does your muse think others see their race: GOOD / EVIL / NEUTRAL ? - How does your muse think others see their group: GOOD / EVIL / NEUTRAL ?
- Is your muse considered a threat: YES / NO ?  From whom?:  Soul Society and anyone with a working braincell. - Is your muse powerful: YES / NO ?  Could they be considered OP:  YES / NO ? - Did your muse commit any crimes: YES / NO ? - Does your muse think they are doing mostly the right thing: YES / NO ? - Would society think the same: YES / NO / MIXED OPINIONS ?
- Does your muse think they are treated unfairly: YES / NO ? - Does your muse feel understood from others: YES / NO ? - Is it important for them what others think of them as a person: YES / NO ? - Would they welcome death:  YES / NO ? - Will they ever find peace:  YES / NO ?
01.0.  Do they fully stand behind the group they are part of? YES / NO. Why is that? Explain: The Quincy’s express a very grey area for Giselle, on the one hand they gave her her powers which she loves and adores greatly and uses to the extent where she can’t imagine life without such abilities, but they also remind her of past, which was painful and isolated and which she tried to separate from her adult self as much as she possibly could. As far as their goals of world domination and elimination of the Soul Reapers as revenge for the war which happened many years ago, Giselle does not care. She’s here for a good time. Not a convoluted revenge fantasy sorta time!
02.0.  Do they like as things are in Soul Society? YES / NO. 02.1.  Is there anything they would change? Explain here: It’s old and crusty and out of touch with reality. Even in her brief stint spent there, Giselle thought it was dull and very behind the times. Needs more flavour! More spice!
03.0. Would they ever actively try to bring change (in general)? YES / NO. 03.1. Is your muse more: passive / active ?  Introverted / Extroverted ? 03.2. Does your muse care more about: others / themselves ? 03.3. Do they trouble their mind over a lot of problems, others? YES / NO. 03.4. Do they mostly involve: the world / everyone / themselves / comrades / friends / family / elderly / kids / teenagers / home / workplace / strangers / souls / humans / quincy / shinigami / nobles / fullbringer / visored / hollows / espada / arrancar / (former) boss(es) / pets / animals / zanpakuto spirit / enemies / partner / lovers / soul king / god / other…(add more) 03.5. Name (up to) three which are the most on their mind (optional, adding names): - girls - homicide  - what to eat for lunch
04.0. Do they think frequently about politics? YES / NO / SOMETIMES. Why is that? Explain: Giselle is too young to really care or understand the deeper ramifications and political systems at play within the Quincy hierarchy. She knows there’s an inner circle of Sternritter’s closer to Yhwach, but it rarely effects her so she just ignores it. She grew up privileged and she knows that gives her the luxury to avoid thinking more deeply on certain issues. Being Echt she knows she’s technically above other Quincy’s but doesn’t really get why or what purpose that gives anything she does.
05.0. How do they feel in their current location: POSITIVE / NEGATIVE / NEUTRAL ? 05.1. Why is that?:  Without the Sternritters or Quincy’s, Giselle has lost any real sense of purpose. Going back to her old life would almost certainly guarantee her capture by humans or Soul Reapers so she’s trying to find meaning or a goal that doesn’t revolve around the suffering of others and her own enjoyment of said suffering and its hard. At least she’s free.
06.0. Does your muse have any goal: YES / NO ?  BIG / SMALL ? 06.1. Does it involve anything world-changing: YES / NO ? 06.2. If goal or not, any future plans? Share here:  Get a mortician licence.
07.0. Does your muse know about the Original Sin of Soul Society*: YES / NO ? * curious? Read about it here. 07.1. If they knew, would it change their views on Soul Society: YES / NO ? 07.2. More: POSITIVE / NEGATIVE / NEUTRAL ?
08.0. Who is the worst person in their eyes?:  Yumichika. 08.1. What should happen to them?  Execution (quick / slow death) / Imprisonment / Stripped of their powers / Torture / Repay for their sins / Pay a Fine / Social Work / lose their loved ones / Exile / other… (add more). 08.2. Explanation:  There are a good number of other characters who handed Giselle’s ass to her on a platter (Ichigo & Mayuri in particular), but that’s all part and parcel for a war. Even Yhwach who betrayed her and tried to kill her in the end still did her some good by giving her her powers. Above all, they still respected her most basic rights and identity. Yumichika she hates more deeply because he went low when it wasn’t warranted.
09.0. Thoughts on: Quincy Massacre if they knew: POSITIVE / NEGATIVE / NEUTRAL ? 09.1. Would they be alright with such thing happening again: YES / NO ? 09.2. Would they try to prevent it: YES / NO / DEPENDS ? 09.3. Explanation: The original Massacre happened too long ago for her to remember so she’s just kinda ‘Meh, sucks to suck!’ about it. Were there another attempt on a Quincy Massacre now, it would be a whole other thing because there aren’t very many Quincy’s left really to exterminate so of course she would try to prevent another all out extermination on her end because it would put her life at risk.
10.0. Would they ever switch sides: YES / NO ? 10.1. If yes, What could bring them to do so?:  A personal betrayal. 10.2. Would they create a new one: YES / NO ?  or join a current one? If so, which:  She had to join the Soul Reapers, however briefly, to get into the Soul King’s palace to kill get up to  Yhwach.
11.0. Does your muse follow a certain moral code*?:  YES / NO / GRAY AREA ? * (ethics) A written, formal, and consistent set of rules prescribing righteous behavior, accepted by a person or by a group of people. 11.1. What does it involve?: No transphobia. 11.2. What does it NOT involve?: Giselle is literally not above killing anything or anyone or making them do anything as her zombie. She is as depraved and cruel as you can imagine, if it brings her pleasure, she’ll do it.
YOUR MUSE’S VIEWS / OPINIONS ON THESE GROUPS ?
Central 46:   positive / negative / neutral.   ━   because: she doesn’t engage with them enough to really know what they do or if they’re fucked up on any deeper level.
Four Great Noble Clans:   positive / negative / neutral.   ━   because: same deal, she doesn’t interact with them enough to know what their problem is.
Royal Guards / Gotei 13:   positive / negative / neutral .   ━   because: ghost cops deserve to die! Even if they teamed up in the end, they still took two of her friends hostage and used them in experimentation. That’s fucked up. If she see’s a soul reaper, it’s on sight.
Fullbringer:   positive / negative / neutral.   ━   because:  Funky little humans with some flavour of hollow. Not expressly evil or aligned with soul reapers so she can vibe with them.
Visored:   positive / negative / neutral.   ━   because:  Same ghost cop, different hollow flavour. They make good zombies though.
Espada:   positive / negative / neutral.   ━   because:  All Quincy’s have a sort of guttural negative reaction to hollows to try and reject them. Giselle is no different.
Quincy:   positive / negative / neutral.   ━   because: That’s her clique!
YOUR MUSE’S VIEWS / OPINIONS ON THESE (IMPORTANT) PEOPLE ?
Aizen:   positive / negative / neutral.   ━   because:  Dude who sat tied to a chair...ominously. Would make for a poor zombie.
Yhwach:   positive / negative / neutral.   ━   because:  He tried to kill her twice. Bad vibes.
Mayuri:   positive / negative / neutral.   ━   because:  Too shiny and too annoying and too much of a book smarts and also stole all her sick zombies using science. Also experimented on two people she cares about so, die!
Kurosaki:   positive / negative / neutral.   ━   because:  Threw her through a building and broke her neck.
Soul King:   positive / negative / neutral.   ━   because: Big man in the sky that Yhwach tried to kill. Don’t know who he is or what he did, but eh. Maybe he had it coming.
CONGRATS, you managed till to the end, now tag your fellow bleach partners!
TAGGED BY: @skyvar cheers for creating this !! its awesome!! TAGGING:  i tag @diepower @oorigamii @oscuras @fleshpurifies and whoever else would like to do it

This is very random but I love the cast of random side characters that you made up (like Seike and Ohno) -- so much so that i am sometimes surprised when they dont actually appear in Bleach?? Anyway love that kind of consistency...would love to see it in my own writing someday skjfjsjsj
Ah, thank you so much! You are a great writer, and this is a very achievable goal!
Ha ha, believe it or not, Seike is actually canon?? I am pretty sure his name only appears in We Do (Knot) Always Love You, but I have always assumed it’s this guy:

Anyway, here are some tips for creating side characters! It’s way easier than you think!
I hate making up characters. I hate it. Much the way all great programmers are very lazy and therefore work to minimize the work they have to do over their entire lifetime, I work very hard to never have to make up anything about my characters.
Here’s a tip for names: I am not Japanese and coming up with Japanese names is hard for me and makes me nervous. If I am naming an important character, I will go to the trouble of giving them a meaningful name and working out the kanji, etc etc (by which I mean I go drop hours of my time into https://japanese-names.info/). If they are a side character, I will look up the Wikipedia article on “Japanese entomologists” or “Japanese Olympic figureskaters” and pick one surname and one given name that have the right “ring” to them. I will usually do a quick Google to make sure that name isn’t the name of an important character in some other anime/video game I wasn’t aware of. Bam. Done.
You can also cheat by naming everyone in Squad 6 Kuchiki, Ohno, or Gotou because they are all Byakuya’s relatives, or having there be six guys named Maki in Squad 11 (there are already semi-canonically 2). If you make a joke about it, everything thinks you’re a very funny person instead of just incredibly lazy.
I keep a spreadsheet. Every time I make up a detail about a character, I try to log it so I don’t have to look it up later. Here’s what the Squad 6 tab looks like:

Be minimalist. The less you make up, the less you have to remember later. Every time you bring in a character, say to yourself, what are they here for? You really don’t need to go much further than that. Ohno and Choei got introduced in one of my first fanfics, because a) I needed some exposition, and b) I wanted to show how Renji interacted with his squad. What I wanted to convey was that most of Squad 6 is lazy snobs who enjoy the benefits of nepotism and Renji’s presence is really cramping their deal: hence, Ohno. However, Renji is very likable, and I also wanted a contradicting voice that thought Renji was cool and fun and livened things up: hence Choei. I made them the 3rd and 4th seats because he would work with them a lot, and I would be able to reuse them. Ohno should be kinda important, so I made him the heir to the largest Kuchiki branch family, which explains why he’s snooty, but also always angling for Byakuya’s approval. Choei’s basic characteristic is his chill bro-ness and lack of ambition, so I made him an extraneous fifth son. He’s on the futsal team, because that gave him additional reason to like Renji. He’s openly gay because gay people are cool and I felt like it. That’s it. Two characters that I have gotten incredible mileage out of. Every story or so, I add another detail if it makes sense to. Ohno is, surprisingly, fond of dogs. Choei’s zanpakutou is a warhammer. Ohno’s dad is a huge bitch, which explains a lot about him without me having to explain anything.
My OC’s are primarily there for my protagonists to bounce off of! Like Plato’s shadows in the cave, they really, really, do not need to have a richer inner life than what our protags see of them.
One of my characterizations of Renji is that he’s very personable and knows everyone. When I’m doing his POVs, I name almost any character he comes across, and often include a fact about them. Conversely, when I’m writing Byakuya, who doesn’t notice people who are beneath him, I will frequently not use names, even on people whose names he should really know, like referring to Kira as “that dour fellow from 3.″ It’s also really interesting, particularly in the case of Squad 6, to examine the way Byakuya interacts with his underlings vs. the way Renji does.
One of the things having bit characters does is to make your world feel bigger. A related thing you can do is to casually namedrop places-- invent a name for the restaurant your characters like to go to, or refer to different parts of your setting like you are describing them to someone who lives there (”up near the art musuem” or “that noodle place north of the Eleventh”). When I write about the Seireitei, I am always thinking about my Local Large City, and how I would describe where things are.
Reuse bit-part canon characters interchangeably with your own! This works very well in confusing your audience as to who you made up and who is canon! As I mentioned, Seike is actually canon, although we don’t know much about him. Ichigo’s lesser-known classmates, like Ryo and Michiru are similar. I tend to think of characters in tiers: in my stories, the protagonists are Renji, Rukia, and to a slightly lesser degree, Byakuya, so that’s my A-tier. The B-tier are the other Bleach characters they interact with the most-- Izuru, Momo, Shuuhei, Ikkaku, Yumichika, Hitsugaya, Ukitake, etc. The C-tier are characters that are of lesser importance in the canon story, but I like them, or they are relevant to the story, so I use them, like Hanataro, Akon, Rikichi, Kiyone and Sentaro, etc. There are also the characters that are important canonically, but just aren’t as important to my stories-- Soi Fon, Kyouraku, etc. Then, there’s the D-tier, which should contain both throwaway canon characters, like, Seike, and your made up cast. If you can keep them at the same level, you’re doing the right thing! If you use any character enough, they can move up a tier! There’s also an E-tier for characters that are just a name and some minor details. It’s good and okay to have these, too! You can think about this in terms of tags, as well: your primary audience is clicking on your story for your A-tier characters, and many people may be clicking on it because they are thirsty for content of your B-tier characters, so try to scale their roles according. You’re trying to make the C-tier characters happen, and your audience is just gonna have to deal with it, so it’s your job to convince people that they are Good, Actually. D-characters are there for flavoring, and I guess if you can make people like them, that says something about you (me, I guess?) as a writer.
When I wrote Between Tides, I cut my protagonists off from their main cast so I *had* to introduce some OCs at the B/C-tier and I hated it and rolled around on the floor wailing about it for 3 months. I have gotten so many compliments on Rukia’s intense, overbearing boss, Sunadori, and Renji’s no-nonsense cooking mentor/witch friend, Mrs. Kuwashima. I have no explanation, except maybe all the anguishing did something. I think I invented them more by feel than anything else-- Sunadori’s role was to get Rukia used to the idea of being a vice-captain, and Mrs. Kuwashima’s role was to let Renji be someone’s soft son for a bit. This is more important than any particular bit of backstory. Mrs. Kuwashima didn’t even have much of a backstory, now that I think about it, and the only reason Sunadori had one is because it tied into the plot.
Also, I am a dialogue-ist, and I let my characters establish themselves through their own voices, rather than trying to enforce personalities from above.
Ha ha, I think that’s long enough. Thank you for this opportunity to bloviate about my own writing. The upshot is, worldbuilding is not just magic systems and fantasy governments, it’s also deciding that the lady who goalkeeps the Squad 6 futsal team is also Byakuya’s cousin who once pushed him in the mud as a child.
