Beast Boy to the Rescue in “Titans: Beast World”

DC Comics has announced a “Dawn of DC” crossover event spinning out of Tom Taylor and Nicola Scott’s Titans run. Titans: Beast World hails from writer Tom Taylor and artist Ivan Reis. The series will also connect into Titans and Nightwing. The “Beast World” storyline will kick off, though, in Tales of the Titans #4 (on sale on October 24, 2023) from Andrew Constant and Brandt & Stein as Beast Boy deals with his own crisis following the events of Dark Crisis.

The DC Universe faces a new threat, “an intergalactic Sea Star—a conqueror like Starro, but one that is far more frightening. Superman, Wonder Woman, Starfire—all are powerless to stop The Necrostar from ending all life on Earth. And the only Super Hero who can save the world is...Beast Boy?! 

With Nightwing, Raven, Cyborg and the Titans beside him, can Garfield Logan rise to battle an ancient evil? Or is he doomed to become the greatest threat to the DC Universe? What will Amanda Waller do to take advantage of the situation as millions of people are changed into rampaging creatures? And can humanity survive all-powerful Super Heroes and Super-Villains transformed into ferocious beasts?” (DC Comics)

Titans: Beast World #1 goes on sale in November 2023.

Partly fuelled by a group watch of titanic, partly ‘nobody has ever drawn this therefore I Must’. I think drawing this made me kind of fonder of the platonic relationship they have in canon, but it was fun! And I Do love a good may/december haha.

My best friend/future housemate is reading AFTG for the first time, so here are some of their thoughts as of Ch.4 of TFC:

- “I can’t wait to meet all of the foxes so I can figure out whose trauma I relate to most

- “which one of them has psychopathic tendencies and why is it Aaron”

- “the substance abuse girlies, Andrew and Kevin”

- “Kevin is the rival boy from the rival school that Neil falls in love with, right?”

- “I think the shipping dynamic is a love triangle but like an actual triangle: Like Kevin and Neil, Andrew and Kevin, and maybe even Andew and Neil???”

- “Dan has a lot to prove so I think she must come from an environment where she was often overlooked as an individual and had to work to support her family, probably because of financial struggles”

- “How old are Wymack and Abby, like late 20s early 30s?”

- “I think Wymack isn’t a DILF, but Abby is a MILF so people project that onto him”

- *in response to Andrew’s voice in the audiobook* “ew can we have a chapter without him soon”

- *five minutes later* “wait I love Andrew and might project onto him”

- “this has to be about money laundering. Why else would there be so much money in this relatively new sport”

- “do they ever talk about how exy was created by a woman but Wymack had to fight so hard to make Dan captain?”

Listen I 100% get why Jean couldn’t stay at PSU and obviously the Trojans are so so good for him. At the same time, I so badly want to see Andreil and Jeanee going on definitely-not-double-dates-what-are-you-talking-about because they would truly be The friend group of all time. Trauma bonding, yeah, but also unhinged “would you rather” scenarios and dry/morbid humor and the uncanny ability to read one another because they all Get It in ways that others don’t necessarily. They should at least have a group chat.

My ultimate aftg pet peeve is when someone from booktube or booktok reads the books one time and thinks they can make a video explaining it like no get out of here, I have read these books 10+ times over the last 9 years and listened to the audiobooks 5 times and this morning I still noticed something that I misinterpreted upon the first 15 read throughs. I think the only person that would be genuinely qualified to do a full plot analysis and breakdown would be Nora because these books have so much nuance and complex characters and world building that reading it once is not enough to explain it to other people.
