You had always known Anita Van Buren to be very, very honest. And she didn’t particularly care if someone didn’t like what she had to say. In this instance, however, you found that rather hilarious.

You were Van Buren’s personal secretary, not to mention one of her closest friends in the precinct. She knew everything about you, including the slight infatuation you had with a certain detective.

Lupo and Bernard had recently been investigating the death of a reporter, leading them to make a connection between her and a talk show host named Vanessa Carville.

As the four of you watched a portion of her show, you felt Lupo’s tall stature practically looming over you. He offered you a small smile when you glanced at him over your shoulder.

As Van Buren turned down the volume of her television, she looked at the detectives with suspicion, “Vanessa Carville?” 

“Megan Kerik wasn’t writing an article about women sleeping with their bosses,” explained Bernard, referring to the victim of their case. “She was writing about women who were sleeping with Vanessa Carville.” 

You nodded slowly, examining the woman on the television screen. The detectives’ investigation seemed to be going in the right direction.

“That may have included Megan,” said Lupo. “It turns out that before she reduced herself to digging up gossip for CitySmear, she was a production associate on The Sisters.” 

Van Buren shook her head, and replied, “I love this show! It’s a great way of turning off your brain for an hour.” 

“Would you love it as much if you knew Vanessa Carville was plowing through her female employees?” asked Lupo. 

You spared another glance at him, and agreed, “She’s married, and she has a family.” 

Bernard jumped in, “If she caught wind what Megan was writing about...” 

Van Buren slowly nodded, and sighed, “Go see her. You know, if it were for anything else, I’d ask you to get me some tickets to the show.” 

The two men nodded. As Lupo brushed past you, he whispered a quiet apology when he rested his hands against your shoulders. You waved your hand dismissively. 

“And one more thing!” said Van Buren, causing the men to stop in their tracks. “You know, I don’t know what kind of ‘downtown look’ you guys are going for with the stubble and all, but it’s not working.” 

You tried to smother your laughter by covering your mouth, but it didn’t seem to work very well. Lupo raised his eyebrows at you, and then he smirked at Van Buren, “For downtown or for you?” 

Van Buren narrowed her eyes at them, and said, “Both.” 

You turned away as Lupo looked at you once more. It was becoming harder to muffle your laughter at Van Buren’s comments. She had never been one to hold back. 

However, you could no longer contain yourself as she continued, “Have you looked in a mirror lately, Detective?”

Lupo and Bernard gave you amused expressions as you burst into laughter. Van Buren gave you a wink, letting you know that she was having just as much fun.

“All right,” shrugged Lupo, chuckling at the sight of you.

Bernard smiled as he followed his partner out of Van Buren’s office, “Okay then.”

Lupo couldn’t stop himself from glancing at you one more time, smiling as you continued to laugh with Van Buren. Even if it was at his own expense. 

You waited patiently for the department’s coffee machine to brew a fresh pot. Van Buren had warned everyone that the office would be in for a long night, and you wanted to prepare yourself. 

Nearly releasing a sigh of relief once the coffee was done, you poured a cup for yourself and quickly began adding creamer. 

“Hey.”

You barely stopped yourself from accidentally knocking over your cup. Lupo chuckled as he moved to stand next to you, muttering, “Sorry.”

You shook your head, watching as he leaned against the counter and crossed his arms over his broad chest. You blinked and forced yourself not to stare, instead turning your attention to the coffee in front of you. 

“It’s okay,” you replied. “How is your investigation going?” 

He sighed, rubbing a hand over his face, “Our only suspect is being blackmailed, so we’ve hit a dead end for now. And she claims that she hasn’t spoken to our victim in over a year.” 

You offered him a smile, “I’m sure you’ll figure something out.” 

Lupo examined you closely as he watched you stir your coffee. He then decided to get a cup for himself. He glanced at you from the corner of his eye, and asked, “So what do you think?”

Your eyebrows furrowed in confusion, “About what?”

“My ‘downtown look,’ as Van Buren put it.” 

You failed to stop a smile from spreading across your lips. As you finished preparing your coffee, you quickly took a sip before replying, “I think it looks good, but you want to visit a barber shop... be my guest.”

Lupo chuckled, eyes following you as you gently patted his shoulder before finally leaving the room.

It wasn’t too long after your encounter with Lupo in the break room that he surprised you again. He and Bernard had started working on a new case only a few days earlier, which left you to collect some files for Van Buren. 

As you entered the bullpen, you immediately heard her voice: “—without the beards, you guys look five years younger.”

You looked up from the reports in your hand, raising your eyebrows at the sight of Lupo and Bernard. Both men seemed to have taken Van Buren’s comments on their ‘downtown looks’ into consideration. Both of their faces were freshly shaven, making them look much different compared to their previous appearances. 

Van Buren took the files from your hands before finally disappearing into her office. Lupo gave you a small smile as he spread his arms out, and asked, “Well? What’s the opinion?” 

You smiled back, taking a moment to glance at the floor, “Like I said, Detective... I think it looks good.”

Lupo’s eyes followed you as you joined Van Buren in her office. As you closed the door, he felt himself flush with excitement while you gave him a once-over before finally disappearing from sight.

Herrschaften und Oukies!

Da ist unsere Zeit in der Abendruhe Lodge schon wieder um. Nett war es hier.

Das Dinokeng Game Reserve können wir wirklich guten Gewissens weiter empfehlen. Bei der Vielzahl an unterschiedlichen Übernachtungsmöglichkeiten findet sich für jeden Geschmack eine geeignete Unterkunft.

Nachdem unser ganzes Gerödel wieder im Auto verstaut war, ging es noch einmal zur Rezeption und dann konnte es eigentlich auch schon los gehen.

Günther war mit anderen Gästen unterwegs zum Morning Gamedrive und hatte Anita schon durchgegeben, dass es eine Löwensichtung gibt.

Da die nächste Unterkunft nicht weit entfernt liegt, können wir es in aller Ruhe angehen lassen und nehmen diese Information natürlich gerne noch mit.

Die beschriebene Stelle ist schnell gefunden und tatsächlich liegt dort ein Löwenrudel, bestehend aus dem Pascha und 3 Damen.

Aber, wie das mit Löwen so ist, im Grunde genommen sind sie völlig unspektakulär. Eigentlich liegen sie nur unter einem Busch herum und bewegen sich höchst selten. Wir haben Glück, dass der Pascha wenigstens einmal den Kopf hebt, sonst wäre hier überhaupt kein Bild zustande gekommen.

Wir nehmen die Gelegenheit wahr und mäandern noch ein bisschen durch das Game Reserve und machen aus unserer Abreise noch einen kleinen Selbstfahrer-Gamedrive.

Wir stellen auch heute wieder fest, dass es deutlich feuchter als im letzten Jahr ist und Wege, die wir beim letzten Mal noch befahren konnten, sind in diesem Jahr völlig zugewuchert.

Auch haben sich neue Feuchtbiotope gebildet. Und überall gibt es Wasser, Wasser und Wasser.

Wir wechseln über die Hauptstraße in den nördlichen Teil und treffen auf einen Trupp Bachelor Gnus.

Den “Herren” sieht man ebenfalls das großzügige Futterangebot an. Meine Güte, die haben wirklich Speck auf den Rippen.

Unser kleiner zeitliche Mehraufwand hat sich wirklich gelohnt. Es gab doch wieder einiges zu sehen.

Wir fahren noch zum Gemüsehändler, der seinen Stand an der Rust De Winter Road hat. 

Nach meiner Magenverstimmung haben wir beschlossen uns mehrheitlich von Obst und Gemüse zu ernähren. Das elendige Loadshedding ist uns dann mit Stage 6 doch zu heikel. 

Für gerade einmal 50 Rand erwerben wir mehrere Kilo Kartoffeln, Karotten und Tomaten. Die Einkäufe kommen in unsere Kühlbox, da sind sie während der Fahrt gut aufgehoben.

Anschließend halten wir uns in nord-östlicher Richtung und fahren dieses Mal durch das Yingwe Gate aus dem Dinokeng Reservat hinaus. 

Wieder sind wir über die tatsächliche Größe des Dinokeng Game Reserves überrascht. Hier kann man es wirklich gut und gerne 4 bis 5 Tage aushalten. Bis man alle Wege einmal abgefahren hat, ist man gut beschäftigt.

Es gibt nicht nur Tiere zu bestaunen. Die Pflanzenwelt hat auch einiges zu bieten. 

Und auch an die ganz kleinen Bewohner wird gedacht!

Wir schlagen einen Bogen und fahren dann nach Westen über die N 1 hinweg auf die R 101 und dann immer geradeaus nach Norden bis nach Bela Bela, das früher einmal Warmbath hieß.

Tswana-Stämme, die um 1800 zum ersten Mal durch diese Region zogen, entdeckten dort heiße Quellen in der Gegend. 

Der Voortrekker Carl Van Heerden gründete den ersten Bauernhof im heutigen Bela-Bela und nannte ihn Het Bad (heißes Bad). 1873 kaufte die Transvaal -Regierung von Präsident Burgers das Land und errichtete ein Resort namens Hartingsburg, benannt nach dem prominenten holländischen Biologen Pieter Harting . 

Die Briten besetzten die Stadt während des Anglo-Buren-Krieges und benannten im Jahr 1903 das Postamt in Warm Baths um. 1920 wurde Warmbaths zur Gemeinde erklärt und die Infrastruktur der Gemeinde wurde im gleichen Jahr von dem Architekten John Abraham Moffat entworfen. 

Am 14. Juni 2002 benannte die südafrikanische Regierung die Stadt offiziell in Bela-Bela um (was "kochendes Kochen" bedeuten soll).

Die Gemeinde Bela Bela ist Teil des Bezirkes Waterberg in der Provinz Limpopo und sie lebt heute hauptsächlich vom Tourismus. Auf einer Fläche von 4.000 km² leben annähernd 100.000 Einwohner und die Einkaufsmöglichkeiten sind sehr gut. 

Rund 10 Kilometer hinter Bela Bela biegen wir auf eine rote Sandpad ab. 

Diese bringt uns zu unserer nächsten Station, der Leopards Rock Bush Boutique Lodge, die spektakulär mitten im Waterberg-Biosphären-Reservat liegt.

Für weitere 10 Kilometer hoppeln wir mit unserem kleinen SUV - von uns liebevoll Elefantenrollschuh genannt - immer höher und immer höher über “naturbelassene” Serpentinen in die Berge hinein. 

Oben angekommen erwartet uns eine sensationelle Aussicht - ich will hier nie wieder weg!

Jetzt kommt die übliche Handlungsabfolge: Auto ausladen, Lebensmittel in der Küche verstauen, Klamotten zweckmäßig verteilen usw. usw. - und zwar so, dass wir alles bei der Abreise auch wieder finden.

At first, there was some tension between the two groups. Sipowicz and Kelly didn't like the idea of working with "city slickers," and Benson and Stabler were wary of working with detectives who seemed to be stuck in the past.

But as they started working on the case together, something clicked. Sipowicz's brashness and Kelly's smooth talking complemented Benson.

And Stabler's more methodical approach perfectly balanced out their new partners' techniques. Soon enough, they had a solid lead on a suspect, and the two teams worked together seamlessly to apprehend him.

As they celebrated their victory at a nearby bar, Benson and Stabler couldn't help but feel grateful for the unexpected help they had received. Sipowicz and Kelly may have been from a different era, but they had proven themselves to be valuable assets in the fight against sex crimes.

Benson raised her glass to the detectives from NYPD Blue. "To the new kids on the block," she said with a smile.

Sipowicz grinned back. "Yeah, but we're the OGs," he replied, and they all laughed.

OOOOOH THIS IS TOUGH!! y'know what? even though i wrote more kincoy than i did any other pairing this year, i think i have to go with mjflash, as seen in this thing of darkness (i acknowledge mine). don't get me wrong, i love the angst and sexual/romantic tension of kincoy, but mjflash was truly a blast to write because of their banter and the quiet ephemerality of it. while kincoy is ephemeral because, like romeo and juliet, their story was a tragedy from the beginning, mj and flash (in my fic) are upcoming college students. they like each other, and they want what they have to last, but how long can it? how long can their relationship stand on the back of missing memories and forgotten secrets? that dynamic was so fun for me to begin playing with, and again, they're so Snarky with each other 💛 i love sassy kids 😌

He was up for the lieutenant position that went to Tom, but has not expressed much disappointment that he didn't get the job, seeming to prefer field work to the politics of the higher position. He also seems to prefer the finer things in life, having an affinity for wine, 30-year-old whiskey, and opera. He is thrice-divorced and has a child from one of those marriages.

Lieutenant Tom Hogan (Rob Estes) – Lindsay's ex-husband, who in the first episode was promoted to lieutenant and assigned as her boss. He is engaged in the pilot and has remarried by "To Drag and to Hold," but he still worries that Lindsay's obsession with her work will consume her. Tom was played by Christopher Wiehl in the unaired pilot.

Deputy District Attorney Denise Kwon (Linda Park) - Jill's immediate superior at the DA's office, she clashes with her over her "bleeding heart" style. She is also antagonistic towards Jill due to her past romantic history with Hanson North. When the show returned after the writers' strike, the first episode credits no longer showed her name. But by the second episode, she was back in the credits as a series regular.

She was requalified as an NYPD officer to work with the OCCB task force. In season 3 episode 16 ("Chinatown"), she is promoted from Detective 3rd Grade to Detective 2nd Grade.

Tamara Taylor as Prof. Angela Wheatley (seasons 1–2), a former math professor at Columbia University, ex-wife of Richard Wheatley, and a suspect in the hit ordered on Kathy Stabler. She committed suicide and presumably murdered Richard at the same time after discovering that Richard was responsible for her son Richie's murder.

Dylan McDermott as Richard Wheatley (seasons 1–2), son of notorious mobster Manfredi Sinatra, now a businessman and owner of an online pharmaceutical company who leads a second life as a crime boss, and was a suspect in the murder of Stabler's wife. He was presumed murdered by Angela after she discovered that Wheatley murdered their son Richie.

Nona Parker Johnson as Detective 3rd Grade Carmen "Nova" Riley (season 2, recurring season 2), an undercover narcotics detective working under Brewster's command to infiltrate the Marcy Killers. She retires from the NYPD and leaves New York after the murder of the gang's leader Preston Webb.

Brent Antonello as Detective 2nd Grade Jamie Whelan (season 3), a detective with the OCCB. In the season 3 finale, he is shot and paralyzed by Kyle Wilkie and later dies in the hospital.

Jason Beghe as Sergeant Henry "Hank" Voight, the enigmatic and often mercurial chief of the Chicago P.D.'s Intelligence Unit. Despite his brutal, tough exterior, he is loyal to the cops and detectives serving under him and highly "dedicated" to the victims of the crimes his unit investigates to the point of committing human rights violations, mainly torture, and not respecting the law. He is first introduced in Chicago Fire as a dirty cop who clashes with CFD Lieutenant Matthew Casey after Voight's son, Justin, causes an accident in which a teenager is paralyzed, and Casey, who was first on scene, had intended to testify that Justin was DUI. He is arrested by Det. Antonio Dawson for trying to have Casey silenced by force but is later released from prison and reinstated to the police force by Internal Affairs. As a result, many of Casey's colleagues dislike him, and Casey's superior Chief Boden has a love-hate working relationship with him. It is eventually revealed in the Chicago Fire episode "Let Her Go" that his dirty cop alter ego was part of an undercover operation to catch criminals and other dirty cops. Prior to taking command of Intelligence, Voight worked in the Gang Unit. His father Richard was a former CPD officer who was killed in the line of duty. Voight is a widower; his wife, Camille, died of cancer some years prior. His son, Justin, served in the Army and was killed in the last episode of season 3 while trying to help a friend. Voight took an interest in Erin Lindsay at 14 and raised her as his daughter.

Jon Seda as Senior Detective Antonio Dawson (seasons 1–6), an Intelligence Unit detective who previously arrested Voight for harassment and has since worked alongside him. Unlike Voight, he has limits on how far he will go to get criminals off the streets, as shown by the fact that he asks Halstead to stop Voight from killing anyone while on the hunt for Pulpo because he does not want it on his conscience. He and his ex-wife Laura have two children: Diego and Eva. He is the older brother of Chicago Fire character Gabriela "Gabby" Dawson. In season 4, he is offered a job at the State's Attorney's Office as Lead Investigator, which he accepts. After becoming disillusioned with the job, he returns to the unit in the first episode of season 5. In season 6, Antonio struggles with recovering from a shoulder injury and dependency on the oxycodone he is taking for the pain. After a dealer he owes kidnaps, beats, and rapes his daughter, Antonio, high on oxy, kills him in revenge. Though Voight and Ruzek manage to cover up the incident as self-defense, and Antonio successfully recovers in rehab, mayor-hopeful Superintendent Brian Kelton later gets the case reopened in order to take down the Intelligence Unit, and in the season finale, Antonio relapses after Ruzek is arrested after taking the blame for everything to protect him. In the season 7 premiere, it is revealed that Voight found Antonio and checked him into an off-the-books rehab clinic to get him clean again while also protecting his career. It was revealed several episodes later that Antonio resigned and moved to Puerto Rico to spend more time with his family.

Sophia Bush as Detective Erin Lindsay (seasons 1–4),[7] a tough Intelligence Unit detective and former CI whom Voight took under his wing when she was a juvenile delinquent. Because of this, she is closer to Voight than the other members of the unit. She has a half-brother, Teddy Courtney, who was taken by a pedophile ring at age thirteen and was found turning tricks in New York City 10 years later. She was in a relationship with her partner Jay Halstead from seasons 2 to 4. Near the end of the fourth season, Lindsay is accused of assault after she sticks her gun down a pedophile's throat in the interrogation room; facing possible dismissal from the police force, she accepts a job offer at the FBI in New York and leaves Chicago.

Jesse Lee Soffer as Senior Detective Jay Halstead (seasons 1–10), an Intelligence Unit detective who was Detective Lindsay's partner. A former Army Ranger, he is confident in his abilities and sometimes comes across as cocky. He also suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder, shown progressively during Season 5, later seeking therapy for it. He is the older brother of Chicago Med character Dr. Will Halstead. He was in a relationship with his partner Erin Lindsay from season 2 until she transferred to the FBI in New York at the end of season 4. He later marries fellow detective Hailey Upton in season 9. Following Olinsky's death and Antonio's resignation, Halstead becomes Voight's right-hand. He later resigns from the force early in season 10 after becoming disillusioned with the gray area the Intelligence Unit has to work in, and returns to the Army in a new job hunting drug cartels in Bolivia.

Patrick John Flueger as Officer Adam Ruzek, a younger police officer recruited straight out of the academy by Olinsky to do undercover work. He is often portrayed as an overeager amateur who dives headfirst into a situation without thinking. His parents are separated, and he split time between his father, "Disco Bob" Ruzek (Jack Coleman), a longtime patrol officer with the 26th District who lives in Beverly, and his mother in Canaryville. He was engaged to fellow police officer Kim Burgess.

Marina Squerciati as Officer Kim Burgess, a former flight attendant turned uniformed patrol officer who was Atwater's partner. She was then partnered with Sean Roman before his departure. Burgess is shot in "Called in Dead" and spends the next episode recovering. She was engaged to Adam Ruzek; the relationship is later broken off because of commitment issues. She later develops feelings for Roman before he moves to San Diego. In season 4, she is offered a job in Intelligence, which she accepts.

LaRoyce Hawkins as Officer Kevin Atwater, a uniformed patrol officer who was Burgess' former partner until he was promoted to the Intelligence Unit. He is responsible for caring for his younger siblings, his brother, Jordan, and sister, Vanessa. After his brother testifies to a grand jury about a crime he witnessed, and Vanessa is threatened with rape for her brother being a snitch, he sends them to live with their aunt in Texas.

Archie Kao as Detective Sheldon Jin (season 1), a tech and surveillance expert. He was discovered to be a reluctant mole working for Internal Affairs sergeant Edwin Stillwell, who had leverage to make him cooperate. He is found murdered in the first-season finale episode, "A Beautiful Friendship".

Elias Koteas as Senior Detective Alvin Olinsky (seasons 1–5), a veteran undercover officer and a friend of Voight who previously worked with him in the Gang Unit. Before joining the force, Olinsky served in the 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team stationed in Vicenza, Italy. Olinsky mentions in "Called in Dead" that he has eight confirmed kills in the line of duty. At the end of the fifth season, Olinsky is arrested for the murder of Kevin Bingham, the man who murdered Voight's son, Justin, and is later stabbed to death via a hit in prison while awaiting trial.

Amy Morton as Sergeant Trudy Platt (season 2–present; recurring season 1), a sarcastic desk sergeant of District 21, and the immediate superior of the district's patrol officers. Before taking a desk job, she was a uniformed patrol officer, and worked with Dawson. She passed the detective's exam twice. Platt is married to Chicago Fire character Randy "Mouch" McHolland.

Brian Geraghty as Officer Sean Roman (seasons 2–3; guest season 7[8]), a brash patrol officer who partners with Burgess after transferring to the 2-1 from District 31. He transferred out because of his relationship with Jenn Cassidy (Spencer Grammer), who is now a K-9 officer, to avoid breaking fraternization rules. He has his own private security company on the side. After being wounded in the line of duty, and with the department feeling he would be unable to return to patrol, he resigns and decides to join the San Diego Police Department.

Tracy Spiridakos as Detective Hailey Upton Halstead (season 5–present; recurring season 4), a tough former robbery-homicide detective and Erin Lindsay's replacement following her departure to New York. Upton gets transferred to the FBI field office in New York City in season 7 episode 18, "Lines", to temporarily fill in for an agent undercover. She has great relationships with her CIs and goes to many lengths to protect them. Despite a dark turn in Season 7, she is mostly a "by the book" detective. She is married to former Detective Jay Halstead.

Lisseth Chavez as Officer Vanessa Rojas (season 7), a rookie and Antonio Dawson's replacement following his resignation. She previously worked in an undercover operations unit.

Benjamin Levy Aguilar as Officer Dante Torres (season 10; guest season 9[9]), a recruit who had a complicated past and was recruited under Detective Halstead's wing.Recurring[edit]

Samuel Caleb Hunt as Greg "Mouse" Gerwitz (seasons 1–4), the tech and surveillance expert for the Intelligence Unit who replaces Detective Jin. He had served in the same Army unit as Halstead. After he persuades Voight to get a felony expunged, he resigns from Intelligence to reenlist in the Army.

Stella Maeve as Nadia Decotis (seasons 1–2), an 18-year-old former escort and addict whom Lindsay tries and succeeds in helping. She later becomes the Intelligence Unit's civilian administrative aide and was studying to be a police officer. She was murdered by Dr. Gregory Yates in Law & Order: SVU's 16th season, episode "Daydream Believer", the conclusion of the season's second SVU/Chicago crossover event.

Elizabeth "Lizzie" Bennet (Ashley Clements;[11] Elizabeth Bennet in the novel) is the middle Bennet sister and the narrator of most of the vlogs. She is a graduate student studying mass communications and, like her original counterpart, believes women should be highly educated and do more with their lives than simply pursue husbands. She is very close with her best friend, Charlotte Lu, who was born on the same day as she, as well as her older sister, Jane, while appearing to have a more strained relationship with her younger sister, Lydia. While it is clear that she cares for her family and friends, she can also be fairly prejudiced and quick to judge people who she perceives as condescending or a threat to her way of life, such as Darcy and, at first, Bing Lee.

Charlotte Lu (Julia Cho;[12] Charlotte Lucas in the novel) is Lizzie's best friend and often the director/editor of her vlog. Charlotte wants to be a filmmaker and convinced Lizzie to start her vlog as part of a school project. While the original character of Charlotte Lucas from the books is a minor character, Lu's role in The Lizzie Bennet Diaries has been greatly expanded; she appears in many of the beginning episodes, and, according to both Lizzie and Jane, practically lives at the Bennet house. Charlotte and Lizzie have a falling out after Charlotte accepts Ricky Collins' job offer (which Lizzie originally turned down), but the two soon reconcile.

Jane Bennet (Laura Spencer[13]) is the eldest of the Bennet children, and an overworked, underpaid merchandise coordinator in the fashion world. She is incredibly polite, sweet and, according to Lizzie, "practically perfect in every way."[14] When Bing Lee moves into town, Jane is immediately smitten with him, much to the absolute joy of her mother. Jane is devastated by Bing's sudden departure. She moves to Los Angeles for both a new job and the hope of reconnecting with Bing. She later returns to her home to support her sister Lydia through her difficulties. After this is resolved, Jane is offered a new job in New York City and reconciles with Bing.

Lydia Britney Bennet (Mary Kate Wiles[15]) is the youngest Bennet child, currently attending community college. She is "feisty, energetic, and unapologetic."[16] Lizzie, somewhat less kindly, describes her as "too old to be on any reality shows about having babies in high school."[14] She has also created a series of her own videos starring herself, her cousin Mary, and her cat, Kitty.[17] On the occasion of her 21st birthday in December 2012, she and Lizzie get into a bitter argument about Lydia's perceived immaturity, and Lydia makes plans to vacation in Las Vegas for New Year's Eve, where she meets George Wickham and begins dating. Later, after being the victim of George Wickham's money-making site, she makes up with her sisters.

Bing Lee (Christopher Sean;[18] Charles Bingley in the novel) is a young, wealthy Asian-American medical student who has moved into The Netherfield House in the same neighborhood as the Bennets. He quickly falls for Jane Bennet and begins to date her. Bing abruptly leaves Netherfield and Jane by returning to Los Angeles, breaking Jane's heart, after Darcy suggests that Jane is only engaging in a relationship with him for his money and Caroline tells him that Jane flirted with another guy at his birthday party. However, after a run-in with Lizzie during her time at Pemberley Digital, he makes a return, having quit medical school to pursue his own passions. He and Jane move to New York together in episode 92.

Caroline Lee (Jessica Jade Andres;[19] Caroline Bingley in the novel) is Bing Lee's sister. She is aware of Lizzie's vlog diaries and appears to help Lizzie keep Bing and Darcy from discovering them during Lizzie and Jane's stay at Netherfield. She has a romantic interest in William Darcy, although her feelings aren't reciprocated. She is later revealed to have attempted to manipulate events to keep Bing and Jane apart, as well as (to a lesser extent) stymie Darcy's feelings for Lizzie. Caroline reappears in the sequel, Emma Approved, as Senator James Elton's fiancé, replacing Augusta Elton, the original wife of Philip Elton, from the novel.[20]

Ricky Collins (Maxwell Glick;[21] William Collins in the novel) is a former classmate of Lizzie and Charlotte's, who asks that he be addressed only as Mr. Collins. He has formed an alliance with venture capitalist Catherine de Bourgh, to attempt a foray into the world of web video. Mr. Collins frequently visits the Bennets while in town for a few weeks and, near the end of his stay, offers Lizzie a lucrative job at his company, Collins and Collins. Lizzie turns him down, so he offers the job to Charlotte, who accepts. This decision causes a brief but bitter argument between the two best friends, but they reconcile after Charlotte invites Lizzie to visit Collins & Collins (in the fictional town of Hunsford, California), where Lizzie also learns to tolerate Mr. Collins.

William Darcy (Daniel Vincent Gordh;[22] Fitzwilliam Darcy in the novel) is Bing Lee's best friend and the wealthy heir to an entertainment corporation called Pemberley Digital. He stays with Bing and Caroline at Netherfield until they all leave for Los Angeles. He first meets Lizzie at a wedding, and she overheard him telling Bing that she was "decent enough", which is when her dislike towards him starts. He is described by Lizzie as a snobby and condescending robot, and Jane has difficulty coming up with a flattering descriptor of him, beyond "tall";[23] Charlotte, however, believes that Darcy has a crush on Lizzie.[24] For a long time, second-hand characterization is all the audience has to go by, as Darcy is referred to but never seen, making his first appearance in episodes 59[25] (only from the neck down) and 60,[26] where he confirms Charlotte's suspicions by confessing his love for Lizzie.

George Wickham (Wes Aderhold[27]) is the coach of a university swim team who forms a short-lived romantic attachment with Lizzie. He claims that though he and Darcy were childhood friends, Darcy ruined his life by withholding money Darcy's father had promised, thereby ending George's hopes of a college education.[28] He leaves town for work, eventually re-entering the story after New Year's Day, where he meets and becomes romantically involved with Lydia, as chronicled in her spin-off videos. At the same time, Lizzie learns that George gambled away all the money the elder Darcy left for him, and then took advantage of Gigi Darcy, William's sister, for more. Finally, he attempts to exploit "YouTube Star Lydia Bennet" by releasing a sex tape of the two of them online.[29]

Fitz Williams (Craig Frank;[30] Col. Fitzwilliam in the novel) is Darcy's friend and colleague. Lizzie meets him while dining with Catherine de Bourgh, Darcy's aunt and Charlotte's boss. He has a boyfriend, Brandon, whose name was officially confirmed on Fitz's Twitter, and is particularly good at making care-packages.

Georgiana "Gigi" Darcy (Allison Paige;[31] Georgiana Darcy in the novel) is William Darcy's younger sister and a graphic designer at Pemberley Digital. Her first appearance in The Lizzie Bennet Diaries was Episode 77. She is aware of the video diaries, and claims to like them. She and George Wickham were romantically involved, but this ended when William proved that George was taking advantage of her for the money. Twitter posts between Gigi and Fitz suggest that she actively tries to push Lizzie and Darcy together. She is also instrumental in helping to end George's money-making plot: though the website itself did not list his name and George had stopped returning calls, he answers Gigi when she calls him, allowing Fitz and Darcy to track him down. Thereafter Darcy bought out the company which owned the rights to the sex tape, preventing it from ever being released.

Mrs. Bennet is Lizzie's mother. She appears to be a traditional Southern woman, eager to see her daughters married and interested in little else besides neighborhood gossip. She is almost always impersonated by Lizzie.

Mr. Bennet is Lizzie's father. He appears more calm and levelheaded than his wife, though one of his favorite activities, according to Lizzie, is winding her up.[32] He has a special fondness for bonsai trees and prepares a train extravaganza every Christmas. He is often impersonated by Charlotte and Lydia.

Catherine de Bourgh (Lady Catherine de Bourgh in the novel) is Darcy's aunt and an extremely wealthy venture capitalist who is the primary investor in Collins & Collins, the new media firm run by Mr. Collins, where Charlotte accepts a job offer after Lizzie rejected it. Catherine is very attached to her sickly dog who she calls Annie Kins. She is quick with her opinions and judgements. Charlotte said that Catherine is "on Team Caroline," meaning that she wants her nephew to be with Caroline. She is impersonated by Lizzie, and Ashley Clements says her impression is a combination of Julia Child, Miranda Priestly and Dolores Umbridge.[33]

Mary Bennet (Briana Cuoco[34]) is Lydia, Jane, and Lizzie's cousin who has appeared sporadically in Lydia's vlogs and once in Lizzie's. She becomes better friends and occasional tutor with Lydia while Lydia is staying at her house despite their opposing personalities. She is often the "forgotten" character and her Twitter reads, "I am Mary, never forgotten." Mary also has a boyfriend by the name of Eddie (a subtle nod to the character of Edmund Bertram from Austen's Mansfield Park.)[35] In the novel, she is actually one of the five Bennet sisters, being the middle sister between Elizabeth and Kitty.

Kitty Bennet (Rosie of House Wiles) is Lydia's cat who appears in Lydia's vlogs. In the novel, she is actually one of the five Bennet sisters, being the second youngest after Lydia.

Even een korte inleiding op deze blog: deze hebben we geschreven in de laatste weken voor vertrek naar Nederland, maar zijn we helemaal vergeten te plaatsen. Veel zal misschien voor sommige van jullie al bekend zijn (in dat geval —> skip maar naar de volgende blog 😉), zo niet: veel lees plezier!

🖖🏻 In Marbella, net na het plaatsen van de vorige blog, besluiten we om toch zo snel mogelijk nog naar een huisarts te gaan om Jacq haar pink te laten checken. We komen nota bene uit bij een Duitse kliniek waar ze namelijk ook Engels spreken, wel zo handig. Eindstand is een röntgenfoto met een veel te dure arts die ons kan vertellen dat er gelukkig geen breuk zit in de vinger van Jacq. We krijgen nog wat advies mee en fietsen weer terug naar onze camper, waar we opeens nieuwe buren blijken te hebben.

🇳🇿 We ontmoeten zo Dave en Anita uit Nieuw-Zeeland die met een echte Amerikaanse camper op pad zijn, op een Brits kenteken. Lekker verwarrend, maar gezellig is het wel met deze Kiwi’s en hun flinke voorraad eten en drinken in hun grote ‘RV’ (Recreational Vehicle), genaamd Harvey… Harvey the RV. 😉

Na een gezamenlijke middagborrel, maaltijd en avondborrel gaan we onze eigen camper-bedjes in.

🌴 We vertrekken de volgende dag en rijden door naar Málaga. Hier hebben we een handige plek vanaf waar we redelijk gemakkelijk de stad in kunnen fietsen. Redelijk, omdat de afstand best oké is maar de nodige ups en downs maken het toch een iets uitdagender ritje! Hendrik weet in de stad een mooie outfit te scoren voor de bruiloft in Nederland, helaas heeft Jacq hier nog een succes. Verder vieren we in Málaga ook Hendriks verjaardag door er heerlijk te eten. Málaga is verder echt een mooie en leuke stad!

🏔️ Na Málaga komen we op een plekje terecht net onder Granada waar het langzaamaan behoorlijk koud begint te worden. We staan hier bij een mooi stuwmeer en de natuur is prachtig. Vanaf hier rijden we door naar Granada. De route is uitdagend vanwege het gebergte maar daardoor ook weer adembenemend mooi. We hebben uitzicht op de eeuwige sneeuwtoppen van de Sierra Nevada. Het meest zuidelijke skigebied van Europa met zo’n maximale hoogte van 3500 meter. In Granada zelf hebben we eigenlijk weinig tijd, omdat we de vrieskou in de nachten hier willen en moeten vermijden. Ook merken we dat we na Marokko wel vol zitten van allerlei indrukken en alles wat met drukte, toerisme en drukke toeristen te maken heeft. De meest bezochte toeristische trekpleister van heel Spanje laten we hier dan ook aan ons voorbij gaan: het Alhambra. Het zal prachtig zijn, een verzameling van Moorse en Spaanse paleizen en tuinen, maar we hebben dat min of meer al in losse onderdelen gezien de laatste tijd. Nou ja, hebben we ook een reden om hier eens terug te komen!

🍅 Van Granada naar Almería hebben we weer spectaculair mooie uitzichten en zijn we eigenlijk stomverbaasd over de vele bergen die we hier zien.

In Almería wordt het beeld voornamelijk bepaald door de vele tomatenkwekerijen. Niet in glazen kassen zoals in Nederland maar allemaal van plastic zeil, wat blijkbaar hier genoeg is. We staan hier op een plek met veel te veel toeristen en gaan na één nacht weer weg, maar niet zonder aandenken.

🏝️ We komen aan in een onbekend dorpje genaamd La Isleta del Moro. Hier is het weer heerlijk, hebben we wederom mooie bergen en fijne wandelpaden en prachtige uitzichten op zee. Helaas ontdekken we hier dat er een dikke schroef in onze band zit, die er haast niet zomaar per ongeluk in beland kan zijn. We denken dat dit in Almería is gebeurd. Ons gevoel wordt versterkt door verhalen die we online lezen: hier wordt dit wel vaker ‘gedaan’ waarna je wegrijdt met een band die leegloopt en er ‘toevallig’ mensen achter je rijden die je zomaar komen helpen met je lekke band. Heel fijn, maar daar staat dan tegenover dat ze vervolgens aan de andere kant je camper leegtrekken. Niet zo fraai dus.

🔩 Gelukkig geen lekke band voor ons dus, maar wel een probleempje die we moeten oplossen. Richting het eind van de siësta rijden we naar de dichtstbijzijnde garage waar we even moeten wachten voor het hek, want ja: siësta is siësta. Precies na 16:00 komt de garagehouder uit zijn hok (had ons waarschijnlijk allang zien staan) en is het probleem ook voor hem vrij snel duidelijk. We zijn de derde klant van de dag met ditzelfde probleem, wat nogmaals ons vermoeden van opzet bevestigd. Gelukkig helpt hij ons binnen 2 minuten door de schroef eruit te trekken, een ander soort schroef nog dieper in de band te duwen en er ook weer uit te trekken, waarna hij de prop erin duwt en dit even zijn werk laat doen. Band loopt niet meer leeg, prop wordt afgeknipt, band weer opgepompt en klaar is kees!

We sporten en snorkelen nog wat, eten een lekkere pizza in La Isleta en gaan dan door.

👀 We doen een tourtje door Cartagena en Torrevieja om vervolgens in Alicante te belanden. Hier is het zo mogelijk nog drukker, al vinden wij een heel fijn en rustig plekje aan de rand van Alicante bijna pal aan ‘t strand. Ook hier gaan we nog een keer snorkelen, sporten we lekker en maken we ons op andere manieren nuttig, zonder dat we ons heel erg genoodzaakt voelen om alles van deze plaatsen te zien.

Hierna doen we een tourtje door Benidorm en Altea, waar we opgewacht worden door een zwaarbewapende politie-eenheid, maar waarom is ons nog steeds onduidelijk. Verder zien we vooral heel veel luxe en niet alleen Britse maar ook opvallend veel Nederlandse, gele kentekentjes.

☔️ Wij rijden hierna in één streep door naar Valencia. Hier zijn we samen nog geweest in de zomer van 2018 en we vonden dit een hele fijne stad. Helaas is het weer nu volledig omgeslagen en gaan we van alleen maar zon, naar alleen maar bewolking en regen. De eerste nacht rondom Valencia staan we nog bij een natuurgebied aan zee waar we zowat omver worden geblazen door de stevige wind. De dag erna gaan we naar een woonboulevard/shopping complex waar we twee fijne rugtassen scoren bij de oh zo geliefde (want goed geprijsde) Decathlon. Vervolgens gaan we de Bauhaus in om even wat spulletjes te halen voor kleine reparaties in de camper, wat we ook gelijk maar uitvoeren, waarna we de Lidl bezoeken voor enkele noodzakelijke boodschapjes.

🍕 We rijden door naar een parking dichtbij een mooi winkelcentrum waar we dan ook direct in duiken want: warm, droog en elektriciteit in overvloed. We kunnen onze apparaten hier eventueel opladen en daarnaast benodigde en vooral warme kleding kopen. ‘s Avonds spreken we af met Maria. Maria en Carlos waren huisgenoten van Jacq in Lille, zijn nu helaas uit elkaar maar daardoor hebben we wel 2 afspraakjes in plaats van 1 op de planning. Vanavond dus Maria met niet Carlos maar José Carlos voor de verandering. We eten samen lekker een pizzaatje en in half Engels, Spaans en Frans hebben we een gezellige avond!

🍝 De dag erna is het weer zo mogelijk nog slechter en valt er weinig anders te doen dan weer in de camper blijven of het winkelcentrum in gaan om niet zeiknat en koud te worden. Na een weinig spectaculaire dag rijden we de camper naar een parkeerplek iets dichterbij het centrum omdat we bij Carlos en zijn vriendin Sophie op bezoek gaan. Ze hebben een leuk appartement op een mooi plekje in het centrum waar we hartelijk ontvangen worden en een heerlijke pasta eten. Ook hier hebben we het weer hartstikke gezellig en verlaten we pas rond een uur of één ‘s nachts hun appartement. De camper staat op dat moment op een niet ideale slaapplek, zullen we maar zeggen, waardoor we de driebaanswegen die ‘s nachts doodstil zijn als een soort racebaan kunnen gebruiken om de stad uit te sjezen. We slapen ietsjes buiten de stad op een heerlijk rustig plekje.

🌆 Hier slapen we lekker uit waarna we richting Barcelona rijden. We moeten daar rekening houden met de milieuzone in en rondom de stad, maar vinden een plekje dichtbij een metro en net aan de rand van de milieuzone waardoor we toch gemakkelijk en snel de stad in kunnen. Die avond maken we een planning om in korte tijd ook veel van de stad te kunnen zien. We gunnen onszelf namelijk maar 1 dag. De volgende dag staan wij om 06:00 naast ons bed in de koude camper om ons op te frissen, te ontbijten en broodjes te smeren. We kopen beide een dagkaart voor de metro en duiken direct de ondergrondse in. Eerste stop: Park Güell. Direct ook een uitdaging voor ons als lowbudget-toeristen want: dit prachtige park, ontworpen door Gaudí was voorheen gewoon gratis te bezichtigen, maar: om de drukte te kunnen spreiden’ zijn ze maar geld gaan vragen voor het monumentale deel van het park, yeah right. Als het goed is kan je nog wel een redelijk deel gratis bekijken en als je ruim voor de opening van het park aankomt, kan je overal zelfs gratis in, omdat er dan simpelweg nog niemand staat en het park gewoon open is voor de lokale bevolking. Het park opent om 09:30, wij zijn er rond 08:30 maar blijkbaar is dit al te laat. Echter wordt het nog mooier: we krijgen te horen dat sinds Corona het hele park betaald is geworden en niets meer gratis is hier. Lekker dan. Wij zoeken een plekje met een mooi uitzicht op de stad die voor ons ligt en een beetje onder ons, terwijl de opkomende zon zorgt voor een warme gloed. We leunen tegen een hek van het park waar de locals wel achter ons door het park slenteren. Blijkbaar waren we met onze outfits en uiterlijk niet geloofwaardig als locals. Zo zitten we wat te twijfelen wat we gaan doen, tot één van de locals die achter ons langsloopt, ons een plekje wijst waar we prima het hek over kunnen komen. Nadeel is wel: het park is nog niet open voor toeristen, er lopen alleen wat locals en bewakers rond en wij vallen dan alsnog uit de toon. We zitten onze tijd maar even uit (voor niks zo vroeg uit bed gegaan) en kopen online braaf ons ticket om dit park te zien. Wel absoluut de moeite waard. Het is mooi aangelegd, geeft een prachtig uitzicht en we zien hier de bijzondere bouwwerken van Gaudí.

🏟️ Daarna pakken we de volgende metro, voor Hendrik richting het stadion van Barcelona: Camp Nou, of door de nieuwe sponsordeal moeten we nu zeggen: Spotify Camp Nou, voor Jacq in dezelfde richting maar dan een halte eerder in de buurt van een winkelcentrum aangezien Jacq al eens in Camp Nou is geweest.

Hendrik begint zijn wandeling door het museum, waar hij oude shirtjes van Maradona, Romario, Iniesta en Messi bewondert, maar ook alle bekers en prijzen waaronder vele Champions League bekers met ‘grote oren’, de Ballon d’ors en Gouden Schoenen van Messi en ga zo maar door. Jacq is op dat moment een chique winkelcentrum ingedoken en heeft zich gestort op een heerlijke bakkie pleur. Nadat de laatste slokjes hiervan naar binnen zijn gewerkt, waagt Jacq een poging om eens bij Las Ramblas te koekeloeren. Dè (winkel)straat van Barcelona waar het dan ook megadruk is. Terwijl Jacq dit aanschouwt en haar benen flink aan het werk zet, is Hendrik juist net neergeploft op een stoeltje in Camp Nou met uitzicht op het veld en het bekende, door gekleurde stoeltjes gevormde: ‘Més que un Club’, meer dan een club. Hierna rond Hendrik zijn bezoek af met een wandeling door de kleedkamer, catacomben, over het veld zelf en nog een laatste klim voor een panoramisch uitzicht vanaf hoog in het stadion.

🛕 We komen weer bij elkaar bij het bijzondere Casa Batlló, vanaf waar we opnieuw even Las Ramblas bekijken en wat door de zijstraatjes snuffelen.

Vanaf hier nemen we een metro richting Sagrada Familia waar we even omheen lopen. Ook weer bijzonder mooi om te zien en de Sagrada is wel degelijk verder gebouwd in vergelijking met de vorige keer dat Jacq hier was, dus die kraan die daar staat, staat er niet voor niks (voor wie dacht dat die kraan er misschien voor de sier bijhoort).

🛥️ We sluiten af met een rondje langs de haven, nemen dan de metro terug en zijn op tijd terug bij de camper. Na zo’n lange en nuttige dag en wat tijd over, lijkt het ons handig om zo snel mogelijk de stad achter ons te laten omdat we dan net zo gemakkelijk een rustiger slaapplekje kunnen vinden. Dus we gaan direct, is het plan. Alleen voelt Franky ook dat er een break aankomt en zoals het dan gaat, wegen de laatste loodjes opeens verrassend zwaar. Want na een lange dag in Barcelona wil Franky opeens niet meer starten. Gewoon helemaal niet. Dus niet zoals in Marokko: na 3 pogingen of even wachten alsnog. Nee gewoon niet. Dus we lopen (lees: snelwandelen) naar de dichtstbijzijnde garage waar de beste meneer alleen Spaans spreekt.

👨🏼‍🔧 Maar samen met Hendrik komen ze eruit, is het probleem duidelijk en komt hij binnen een half uur even langs. Na 20 minuten is hij er dan ook inderdaad om eens even te kijken wat er aan de hand is. Na meerdere checks en ideeën draait hij uiteindelijk de buis van de lucht inlaat open, en spuit er een wonderbaarlijke spray in terwijl Hendrik de auto probeert te starten, waarna de motor ook daadwerkelijk tot leven komt. Heel erg fijn maar ook heel erg onduidelijk wat nou de oorzaak van de niet startende motor is. In het Spaans komen we niet verder dan: dat we deze spray ook maar bij de hand moeten hebben en dit de volgende keer zelf kunnen doen. Wat op zich klopt, ‘t is niet heel ingewikkeld, maar waarom Franky niet wou starten is ons hierdoor nog steeds onduidelijk en dus niet erg geruststellend.

🇫🇷 Uiteindelijk komen we aan in Frankrijk, waar we een fijn en rustig plekje vinden voor de nacht. Hier is het ‘s nachts wel weer erg koud en is natuurlijk nu opeens ook de gasfles leeg. Gelukkig hebben we al een tijdje een reserve die we nu aansluiten. ‘s Zaterdags ruimen we het één en ander op en draaien we een wasje om niet als een stelletje stinkende globetrotters in Nederland aan te komen. Zondag bereiden we ons verder voor en pakken we de spullen in.

🧹 Maandagochtend is het dan zover. We staan vroeg op, maken nog een laatste camper-ontbijt en -koffie, pakken de laatste spullen in en doen de voorlopig allerlaatste camper-afwas. We rijden vervolgens naar de Lidl voor verse broodjes en naar de Intermarché waar een loos-plek is om Franky helemaal leeg te laten lopen. Daarna arriveren we bij onze camper stalling, waar we vriendelijk worden ontvangen in dit toch al relaxte deel van Frankrijk. We worden zelfs heel lief naar het lokale treinstation gebracht waar de eerste trein ons al snel in Perpignan brengt.

🥱 Hier is het vooral een hele middag en avond lang, wachten geblazen. We wisselen praktische oplaad-plekken af met buitenlucht-plekken in het fijne zonnetje of met een warme binnenplek. En die wisselen we weer opnieuw af met een praktische plek om onze spulletje zoveel mogelijk opgeladen te hebben voor de busreis. Zo houden we onszelf een beetje bezig.

🚌 Enkele minuutjes voor de geplande 22:45 vertrekt onze Flixbus dan eindelijk vanuit Perpignan. De reis verloopt voorspoedig, alleen krijgen we rondom Orléans te maken met enige vertraging waardoor we een uurtje later in Parijs aankomen en onze break hier iets wordt ingekort. Geen ramp, we nemen een snelle koffie en thee met een pain au chocolat en vieren zo deze dag van de liefde in de stad van de liefde. Hoe vind je die?! 💕💘

🇳🇱 Aan al die romantiek komt, zoals gezegd, een snel einde want we kunnen alweer de volgende bus in! Deze vertrekt vervolgens iets na 13:00, aardig volgens planning en brengt ons via Lille, Gent, Antwerpen en Breda uiteindelijk in Utrecht, slechts een kwartiertje na de geplande aankomsttijd. Helemaal super. Het mocht dan een laaaaannnggeee tijd zitten en wachten zijn geweest, vanaf het moment dat we onze camper stalden in Perpignan maandagochtend rond 11.30, tot aan aankomst in Rouveen dinsdagavond rond 22:30, toch was het een prima reis. Blij om weer in Nederland te zijn. 😊 🇳🇱
