Yknow one thing I hate to do is compare mechas given they’re all pretty different even putting the clear influence a lot have on each other aside and I don’t like the idea that I’ve seen a lot of mecha fans subscribe to where “if you like this one show you HAVE to like these other ones” but this is less of a comparison thing especially because I’m not petty or anything since it’s just something I thought about:

Mazinger v Getter when it comes to their recognition tends to boggle my mind a bit. Since it feels like there are more dedicated Getter fans around that talk about it than Mazinger fans, but Mazinger is more recognizable to the point it gets more funded stuff than Getter.

I was thinking about this when I was watching Mazinkaiser, and I can’t confirm this but I found it interesting that it almost (felt) like this ova spawned out of Getter making a comeback before Mazinger did, since Armageddon came before and was massive hit, than was followed up with a game + shin vs neo by the time Mazinkaiser was made. Like they even got Armas art director to work on it and the studio doing it was Brains Base who made the getter OVAs.

And in terms of recently all the stuff with Grendizer, which I know was SUPPOSED to get another an anime way before this, is now finally getting something coincidentally after Getter Robo Arc. And everyone is already pointing out between the two Grendizer looks waaay better then Arc so it’s clear it has more money put into it, yet I wonder if Arc didn’t happen if they would bother to touch Grendizer since Arc was them also finally giving the Getter team who NEVER got to be in a anime- well, a anime. And now the most neglected pilot apart of Mazingers universe is getting his own show.

I understand why Mazinger is more known and funded since it was the first self piloted mecha and something Go Nagai, a man who arguably changed the industry a lot, made so his works are always gonna be rebooted for the sake of memory, where as Getter sorta lives in Nagai’s shadow sadly even if Ishikawa memory is respected, but I feel like almost Getter is the one to test if things will work and then they’ll see if they can do stuff with Mazinger again.

Or maybe it’s just two coincidences and we’re just going through a long coming mecha renaissance of older properties of the genre, but I’m still rotating it heavily.

Anyway, the so-called collapse of the Roman Empire is one of the most mythologized events in the Western historical canon, and there are accordingly a lot of misperceptions about what happened and how. Last class, we covered the eventful fourth century in Roman history, where the empire split into western and eastern halves, eastern Emperor Constantine converted to Christianity, and established his capital in Constantinople, which would later get the works from the Turks and become Istanbul. The western capital moved to Ravenna in 402, and it had been in Milan before that, not Rome. No longer the center of power as it had been for many centuries beforehand under both the empire and the republic, Rome was infamously sacked in 410 by the Visigoths under King Alaric I. The Supergoths. The Ubergoths. The Verygoths. The Turbogoths. All right, I'll stop. The Visigoths had formerly been a Roman client kingdom in the south of Gaul, which is the modern country of -- anyone?

Anyway, this argument, despite its long-time supremacy in the Western historiographical canon and Western popular culture, doesn't make sense on any number of levels. And that is because? Can anyone give me just one reason to start with?

Sarah again, yes, thank you. I appreciate you greatly, Sarah. Yes, for one thing, the Eastern Roman Empire still bloody existed! It was literally that meme where we're announcing that Rome is dead, Constantinople wants us to stop telling everyone that they're dead, and we sigh that sometimes we can still hear their voice. Yes, I know what a meme is, don't look so surprised. The city of Constantinople became the center of Roman culture and power, though we call it the Byzantine empire to distinguish it from the pre-476 Roman empire. It used Greek instead of Latin as its primary culture and language, it was Orthodox Christian instead of Catholic Christian, and while it was no longer the multinational power player that its predecessor had been, it still produced some heavy hitters. Such as Emperor Justinian in the sixth century, who actually, albeit briefly, reconquered the territories of former Rome in the west, and was married to the very fascinating Empress Theodora. We'll have to get back to her, but anyway, in the territories of Former Rome, such as modern-day Spain, France, and Germany, there were still client kingdoms who were directly descended from Rome and who premised their new independence on their Roman inheritance. The Visigoths -- yes, them again -- in Spain, the Merovingians and the Franks in France, the Angles, Saxons, and Jutes in Germany, and other. So tell me, can we really say that Rome collapsed, exactly, and/or disappeared, instead of just dissipated and re-formed? We still had Latin as the language of state administration, the Roman Catholic Church as the supreme religious and cultural arbiter, and other major innovations that would last through the Middle Ages. Where does this whole Dark Ages thing come from?

The idea that Rome disappeared overnight and took everything good with it is a projection, a fiction, popularized by proto-Renaissance and Renaissance writers who wanted to legitimize their look back into the past. We're getting ahead of ourselves, but the idea of the Dark Ages as this backward slovenly time of idiocy and misery -- it just gets me very worked up, all right?! Yes, written texts and certain other traditional markers of historic narrative became much scarcer than before, and we don't know as much about it as we do the more meticulously documented societies on either side, but it's only dark because we've decided that Rome, the brutal excessively slave-owning militaristic expansionist violent empire par excellence, was the marker of all culture and the peak of Western civilization for all time and nobody else could ever come close! This is how we get bloody Game of Thrones insisting that the medieval era was always filthy and dark and full of rape and violence and morally awful people -- so tell me, George, which part of your fantasy novel, the dragons or the ice zombies, were we expected to read as actual literal truth? It's just because we want to protect the idea of ourselves as so much better than people in the past, and the past itself as full of terrible violence that is somehow worse and more primitive than our violence, and that surely we could never do that because we're so much better! Which is total bullshit! Bullshit!

Somehow neglected to post about one of the latest Hideaki Anno honors, the Medal with Purple Ribbon, an award bestowed by the Emperor of Japan to individuals who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in their fields. A fitting coincidence for the Shin Godzilla and Evangelion director, the purple medal is for scholarly achievements and the arts.

It's an exceptionally rare honor. To put it in perspective, neither Akira Kurosawa nor Hayao Miyazaki have received one. According to AniTrendz, in Khara's online statement, "Anno said that he was unsure if it was okay for a 'hopeless otaku' like himself to receive such an award, but gratefully accepted it after thinking of how his late parents and grandmother would have been pleased. The director acknowledged the support of his wife, friends, the staff and cast of shows he worked on, and anime and tokusatsu fans."

I feel ashamed for HOW LONG i let this ask just rot in my askbox (it's from january, apparently, now it's april. i thought maybe two weeks passed but NO. it was months. ANON I AM SO SO SO SO SORRY. I LOVE YOU WITH ALL MY HEART) but now with the power of this url and the wine i am currently sipping, let me give you the best, most thought-out answer that i possibly can.

I don't know how long you've been following/watching spn, so I won't get into real deep iceberg theories that go back to season 8 and jeremy carver, for the purpose of this essay answer I'll just stick to the year anno domini 2020, and will try to do my best to tell you what happened.

Okay, maybe 2019. So, in june 2019, when the first scripts and drafts for s15 are presented, these things happen: 1. apparently, according to Berens, the confession scene is the first thing that was written for season 15. 2. Jensen Ackles is sat down and asked if he would be okay with this. (question is asked: why would they ask jensen if all he does in this scene is look at cas, he doesn't say anything, he does not confess, it changes nothing about his character, etc.; if you put the real tjlc tinfoil hat on you'd ask hey , maybe they asked him if precisely that is okay, if he is okay with the fact dean is practically silenced here but that's Deep) 3. Jensen apparently is okay with that, because it happens.

also this thing happens around the same time: 1. they write the ending for the brothers, and no matter what version of the finale we're talking about, Dean dies 2. Jensen Ackles is Not Okay with this. he calls Kripke who then, in a call and/or email assures him it's a good ending (Jensen says that) and also very quickly after that Jensen is announced to play Soldier Boy in Kripke's The Boys. make of that what you want

They film, blah blah, march 2020, covid happens, they stop production right after they film the confession. Last episode to air is 15x13, last episode they film is 15x18, they almost have a plane crush when flying to vegas con, and then, a loooong break until august 2020. Now, from what we know, there were two versions of the finale - the pre-covid finale they were supposed to film if the filming schedule wasn't interrupted, and the finale that happened.

What was supposed to be in the Original Finale/Pre-Covid Finale, we still don't know exactly, but from what the cast said, there was supposed to be a big cast reunion, Harvelle's Roadhouse in Heaven, Kansas Band (why are they dead?) playing there after Dean gets there and so on.

Anyway. July 2020. Misha does a livestream with Michael Sheen (the SuperGood campaign) where he says he is going back to filming the last two episodes in a few weeks. he said it LIVE. it's on youtube. people analyze the background from Misha's livestreams and photos and conclude he is in Vacouver, where spn is filmed. He also says that he is going back filming in a few interviews. Also here.

August 2020. They go back to filming in august 2020 to film 15x19 and 15x20.

September 4th, 2020. ALL THEY FILM, for the whole DAY, is one scene. They usually film a few. They film one. Song of the day? The Night We Met.

Somewhere before the episodes starts to air again, Dabb says only 30% of the audience will like the finale. Anyway, everyone concludes, Misha is filming, destiel is more or less going canon, but everyone including bibros is sure Misha is filming and will be there for the finale.

It feels shorter (apparently it's not) but it does have an additional ad break. For Walker. But it feels shorter because of the "carry on my wayward son" cover montage that lasts too long and later it's discovered thanks to scripts that dropped that there are ELEVEN scenes that were filmed,, but didn't make it to the episode. The script that drops is also very telling, where scenes are just [OMMITTED]. It was explained that they wanted to have actor there but they didn't want actors to quarantine for two weeks to film one or two scenes BUT then that's exactly what they did with Jim Beaver lmao.

So yeah. I also remember Misha at a con (DarkLight?) where, after asked about the original ending, he answers that the original ending was something that would be better explored in fanfiction anyway. Theory rises he filmed and was cut off the episode without his or Jensen's knowledge because Misha sat down his kids to watch the spn finale (which was the first episode they were supposed to watch ever, why would he do that if he's not there?) and then, CW SPN twitter posts a goodbye video that has everyone from the cast and their mother BUT MISHA AND JENSEN ARE NOT THERE. Jensens sexy silence starts.

THEN THE WILDEST THING HAPPENS.

November 25th, the Spanish Dub. 15x18 drops in Brazil and Dean says "and i you" to Cas, after he confesses. No "don't do this cas" but "and i you". Tumblr stops working for two hours, people on discords are screaming, no one knows whats happening, someone claims Jensen was called in September 2020 to record some adlibs? To record the muffled sobs Dean does while on the floor. Theory is supported by the fact that in the Bazil version? When Dean sits on the floor? The sound that plays are birds. Chirping birds. Sounds don't match, what was Dean saying while crying on the floor, question arises.

Everyone decides there was a Rogue Translator who managed to hide from The CW Sniper (who is the reason actors just dont tell us everything) and translated some kind of Original Script. Voice Actors are invited to a podcast where they debunk this saying that it was added because the translator felt this was the right response or something like that. Anyway they debunk the fact that there existed, at any time, a version of a script, that maybe was send to them, where Dean says I love you too. This was a wild night, no one slept.

And like. I could make this post longer, but I am planning to, one day, make a huge masterpost with real sources about that because honestly you could write a book about it.

But tl;dr spngate is a theory that misha did film for the last 2 episodes and the changes they made were truly last minute (september 2020), they were going for a canon destiel, possibly human!cas engame, dabb was always on our side, and it's based on stuff like jensen actively hating the ending to the point he made his prequel after 2 years of radio silence, 11 scenes just cut from the finale, misha saying he is going back filming, and people like mark pellegrino saying the last scene he filmed was with alex and misha. also the onion field. why lamp is the theory that cas is represented and symbolized by lamps throughout the show and when dean dances with a Lamp in a drug induced dream instead of, say, some kind of a lady he is actually thinking about cas.

also there are little things like when jensen at an online con before the finale says that oh yes i am wearing a grey flannel but tomorrow? who know it could be blue and green. and we all collectively lost our shit. like when he said he is most excited to "tackle" with cas in season 15. or that "dean has no taste, clearly". WHY WAS YOUR PERMISSION NEEDED JENSEN

Over the weekend:

The morning bell had just rung, leaving yn to rush inside; barely parking her car properly and skipping down the hall in her black heels and swaying black and white striped skirt that seemed to fan a cool breeze through the back of her legs the faster she ran to her class.

Papers and folders were strapped tightly in her arms as yn practically bumped her shoulder against the door frame trying to open the lock. "Someone's in a hurry," a female voice chuckled. Yn recognized this sweet friendly voice as Ms. Monroe, her neighboring classroom that stood across from hers. Yn chuckled, "I barely made it, the bell rang and it was time for the students to come in." Although, no one seemed to have arrived. Ms. Monroe shook her head playfully, "They're just testing the bell, but class doesn't start till 8." 

A rose tinted flush drew over the young woman's face. It wasn't until she realized Harry's classroom along with the others on the floor were empty and dark. Even Ms. Grigg was absent. Yn gave way to a chuckle and decided to set the files down on her desk before heading back out for a quick Burger King breakfast and coming back to the school. The solitude of quietness mocked the entire classroom as yn sat and ate her croissant sandwiches, tater tots and iced coffee while scanning over the due assignments from last Friday.

Hearing some chatter that yn had recognized as child banter, she realized Ms. Monroe's kids were already going inside. During which, Mr. Styles, was opening up his classroom for his class which then a few of them scattered inside. Yn could hear him turn on the TV for them; Daniel tiger playing soothingly in the background as the shuffle steps of Harry's loafers treading out the door. The smell of breakfast lingered into the hallways as Yn's door was only cracked enough to reveal only a speculating glimmer into her classroom. A small knock almost choked Yn; swallowing down the last chew of her croissant, she spoke light yet audible. "Seems like the breakfast rush is ringing in this morning!" Harry cheered. His voice; full of irrepressible ebullient- filling up the room with every step he took closer and closer to Yn, making her cheeks bubble with this haze of endorsement that painted a blush to her cheeks.

Harry stepped closer, eyebrows furrowing a little, "Where you here early?" Yn raised an eyebrow, "I'm sorry?" He giggled, "Like, did you come to your class earlier than everyone," 

"Oh yeah," Yn chuckled, "I came so early that I went out and brought back breakfast for myself." Harry laughed, "Burger King..... good choice- I heard their sandwiches are the best!" Yn held up what was left of her breakfast sandwich, "Very delicious." She said, before taking in the last bite. The bell rang, pinging loud through the halls, "Well, I guess that's my cue to get back to class- but it was nice talking to you,"

"Sure, see you at lunch!" Yn bit her tongue the minute those words left it. She didn't know why she regretted them so much, but instead watched the last glimpses of Harry striding back into his classroom. By then, her kids started piling in. "Who's ready for story?!" Mr. Styles class cheered upon his announcement. It sent these hazy shivers through Yn's body. Her smile puckered into her cheeks, listening to Harry's gentle voice read along to what seemed to be a Clifford book; one of the class's favorite series to read along to, something Yn realized when she noticed Mr. Styles bookshelf's first row was dedicated to the entire series. 

A small tap snapped her from her deep in thought observation. "Are we going to have cookies again?" Her student, Chris, asked. Yn bent down with a perky smile to her face, "Well... I think we may be able to squeeze in some cookies during storytime." It sent joy to see a big grin spread across Chris's face. He ran back to tell his friend, Mac, who became overjoyed himself. Yn puffed out her long skirt before taking her seat at her desk and started going over the morning announcements. Only a few minutes in, a scamper of shoes raced down the hall and into Harry's classroom. Yn continued the pledge of allegiance assuming it to be a tardy student. But sounds of whimpers paralleled through the hall. Yn and her students soon became curious to what was happening. She took a look into the hall, where Harry was comforting the young boy whom Yn recognized to be one of Ms. Grigg's students.

"S-S-She asked me t-t-to gi-give y-y-you th-t-t-this," His little frail voice quivering while tears pocked onto his shirt while he held out a yellow slip. It was a special slip that teacher's give whenever they're missing something from their classroom or they lent it to another teacher. Harry's eyebrows were furrowed with conceren- enough to pull in little Paulie for a hug. "It's okay- want me to go down to Ms. Grigg's class with you?" He asked, sympathetically. Paulie nodded, moving Harry to grab his hand and walk him back to his origin classroom. Harry's eyes spotted Yn skirting from her classroom door. He gave a small smile before stopping, "I put Lila in charge until I get back.... but can you-"

"Of course." Yn smiled back before pulling herself back into her class. She never truly knew what went down in Ms. Grigg's classroom until lunch. As Yn hustled her children out the door for their lunch and recess period, Harry stopped by into her classroom once the hall of the entire kindergarten was empty. "Hey," his voice chimed through the doorway. Yn turned around, lunch sack in her grip, "Hello." Harry cleared his throat, "The boy in Ms. Grigg's class...."

"Yeah- I was worried about him- I didn't know why he was crying.... well obviously because of her..." Harry sniff laughed, "Well, I took him to Ms. Grigg and I found out that she had sent him to my class with a yellow slip- it's a universal teacher thing that means either you let one of the other teachers borrow something and you need it back, or it means that something of yours was stolen-..... you can guess which intent she had with me," Yn shook her head. "Anyway, I went there and she basically had fussed the boy out before she sent him down here and I guess he was still shaken up from it. I explained to Ms. Grigg that I didn't have her book and that maybe it was a misunderstanding." Harry shook his head, furrowing his eyebrows, "That woman...." He sighed.

Yn bit her lip, her gut spewing chafe like a bleeding wound. She scanned Harry's face; hurt and frustrated, but he'd never allow it to show for her. But he didn't have to. This was the first time Yn had seen the bright blase' teacher became sloshed. It made Yn unsettled- lost in a dizzy exasperation because someone was hurting..... someone she cared about... even if they only knew each other for a short period of time. "Hey," her voice, gentle and inviting, "You don't have to go down to the teacher's lounge.... if you would like, you could eat lunch with me?" Yn's face flustered; Harry's turning rouge himself. "Oh, that's so sweet, but I have to some papers to grade, so I was going to use most of my lunch break for that- but I appreciate the offer." His smile, so big and cherry, it pecked Yn with this blemish of awareness. Was that too much to offer? Did I make him uncomfortable? She thought.

Harry said it suave-like- not one missed beat of heated boorishness from him. "I'm glad I was able to catch you though- I now you saw what happened and so it was just reasonable that you knew the whole story." He smiled, "Thank you, Harry." Harry gave one last smile before leaving. "See ya." And just like that he disappeared into behind his classroom door.

The sound of Yn's riveting heart was what bounced from the empty classroom walls.

hi, have you heard the rumor that apparently a leaker revealed that mappa permanently shelved ice adolescence? i've seen that someone made a petition for mappa to say something about the movie but honestly i really don't think that's going to do anything :( it kinda makes me wanna cry thinking about how or why the franchise ended up this way, it was HUGE and everyone was so excited for the movie and i just know mappa could still make tons of money if they'd ever release it. i'll never stop loving yuri on ice and its fandom but i just can't help but think it deserved so much better.

I have not seen it and I do not usually believe leaked info like that but it feels believable. We're already in the middle of the year. I really don't believe there's a production going on. My common sense tells me that if there were any type of production we would get some type of promotion; posters, merchandise, VA projects, etc. something major is going on/went on in production that's for sure. It's difficult to understand why such a money making IP would do radio silence like this, to the point hey can't even put together a short manga like in welcome to the madness, or do another Sanrio collab, CD drama? anime café? the fact that we're not getting even those says to me this is canned.

As to why the entirety of YOI seems to be canned and not just Iceado I seriously have no idea, I cannot understand this decision other than this is something to do with it's creators. It would be one thing if yoi ended and that was it, story was over, but to go as far as to say "see you next level" and announce a movie, it's fair to say they had plans for yoi beyond the original 12 eps. YOI was highly successful, best selling anime of 2017, best selling blue ray discs in 2018, bunch of awards, It trended #1 on Tumblr and twitter every Wednesday, when was the last time we've seen something like that happen with other anime? only the biggest of the biggest trend with every episode (aot, jjk, demon slayer, etc) and yoi was pulling those numbers. I stand on my theory that if it were up to Mappa we would be on Yuri on ice season 3 with 2 movies and OVAS by now (7 years later) but this is something to do with Kubo, Sayo and the production team. perhaps they don't want to continue with this project, perhaps they got burnout. But I wanna make a point that I made in the essay I posted some time ago about my suspicions on what happened to YOI. The fact that Yoi was a big money making IP does not guarantee fast input of related media. look at Hideki Anno with EVA: 3.0+1.0, It's a Huge, popular property that makes a lot of money worldwide and still it took 9 years for the final movie to come out! Hideki experienced severe burnout, people who worked closely to him left the production and the whole experience severely delayed the project (this is what I've found on my research) People thought the last EVA movie was canned as well, and this was purely on the basis of the creator because the numbers were there, so the fact that it's taken this long for new YOI content does not mean it's canned forever, but it does appear that the project is in indefinite hold. I, myself am finding peace with this. I've accepted that the project is on hold perhaps forever, perhaps not. But I'm trying to find closure however I can. I do hope we get some kind of announcement though, I do find it kinda impolite to leave the fans in the dark like this.

And with that, season 1 of Undead Unluck's anime comes to a close

I can't say it was everything I hoped it would be, but I can say it was a lot better than I feared it could have been. Strange usage of recaps, blinding color scheme choices at odd moments, and certain scenes composed in ways that sadly cut down their impact from the source material hampered it from being the next big thing, but unique interpretations and embellishments on the source material mixed with several moments of fantastic animation and great voice acting absolutely prevented it from being a cookie cutter, bland adaptation

And of course, keeping in line with the rest of the series, the final episode made sure to encompass every single one of the above aspects

Now, to its credit, almost all of the recap in this episode was in the manga, it's just very funny that a show that was like 10% recap concluded on a chapter that was, itself, 50% recap. Plus, what recap there was that wasn't originally in the manga was actually handled quite elegantly, being brief moments of establishing information rather than just replaying entire scenes - y'know, the way that a recap is supposed to be!

We still got the garish red gel over the final fight, but I think because we've seen it so many times now, I'm kind of used to it, and the action itself was pretty damn good. The addition of a meteor to the final stroke of Unluck made that final pass at Autumn a lot more visually impactful than it otherwise would have been, and Anno Un's death being an explosion of ink rather than just fading into dust added a nice bit of flair that I think makes their nature as an ink construct much clearer

Overall, a fitting conclusion given the rollercoaster of odd and pleasantly surprising creative choices, and naturally it ended with one final befuddlement. While the beginning of the episode cut the opening theme, we ended up getting it at the end of the episode, which would be pretty standard for a finale, if it wasn't immediately followed by the sequel hook which, itself, was both truncated AND followed by the ending theme! If they'd just cut at least the ending theme, we could have had the full scene of Juiz approaching Billy! Hell, if they'd cut the opening too, we could have gotten the full explanation for how Akira knew the future! Sure, that wasn't entirely necessary, but it could have helped, and getting it recapped at the beginning of season 2 will probably be completely out of place

This was a solid episode, I really enjoyed it, and I feel the same way about the season as a whole, but god damn was this a baffling experience from beginning to end. I will definitely end up looking back on this later as a quirky experience, a fun bit of trivia that we as a community will have a chuckle about and appreciate that it's not Promised Neverland Season 2, but until someone posts a deep dive explaining how those creative decisions came about, I'm probably just going to be obsessing over how it came together so strangely

Definitively, the manga is better; this adaptation does not in any way surpass or in my opinion even match the quality of the manga, but at the very least, it does not do it a total disservice. The goods were good and the bads were weird, and I hope the experience will convince newcomers to check out the manga, if not for the desire to see more, then at least for the curiosity of what spawned this madness

If you were able to stick with it the whole time, I hope you all enjoyed this season as much or more than I did. We're supposedly going to be getting some kind of announcement soon, hopefully for season 2 or a movie. I definitely hope that Yuki Yase won't be at the helm next time, but on some level I think I'd appreciate the consistency if he does return. I'd certainly take that over getting someone worse
