i was tagged by @f-michielin, thank you and sorry for being late!
RULES: answer the 11 questions. Make 11 of your own and tag 11 people!
1.      If you could see live one musician/band, also including those already dead/no longer recording, who would it be?
I would be happy with P!ATD, Queen, ABBA (but during the time of their glory, of course, not the show they are planning to do now) or Elvis, also maybe Frank Sinatra, I guess I just can‘t pick one...
2.      What do you like to do to relax?
Listening to music and sometimes dancing to it, looking at beautiful pictures, also cooking when I‘m in the right mood for it.
3.      Out of the places you’ve visted, which did you like best? Why?
I‘ll have to say Paris because I have explored only a small piece of it and already loved it, this city has many sides and aspects which I‘m looking forward to see the next time.
4.      Do you follow the World Cup? If so, which is your favourite team?
I do and I like it a lot but I‘m not sure I have the favourite anymore, it‘s just so weird that all the teams left are European.
5.      Which book do you think should be an obligatory read in school and which do you wish wasn’t (if your country has obligatory reads in schools)?
I guess Junk by Melvin Burgess would be good and some Lithuanian books such as a novel called Year by Kristijonas Donelaitis wouldn‘t.
6.      What is the sign you’ve already become good friends with somebody (e.g. i usually make them help me with picking the clothes to buy)?
Probably when you trust them more than others and catch yourself telling them the things you don‘t usually tell ordinary people about.
7.      Opinion on online influencers?
I think it‘s good until it‘s healthy.
8.      A song lyric that’s somehow special for you and why?
I don't want to die / I sometimes wish I'd never been born at all from Bohemian Rhapsody because it‘s just the way I feel sometimes.
9.     Do you attend cultural events?
Unfortunately, not as often as I would like but hopefully in near future I will move to a bigger city so this situation might change.
10.   What’s a historic figure that you find inspiring?
Actually there are many of  them but the first one who comes to my mind is Coco Chanel.
11.   Which mythology is your favourite?
The Greek gods are interesting to me and I wish I knew more about all that stuff.
 My questions:
What is your favourite part of the day?
If you had an opportunity to invite one famous person for a dinner, who would it be?
What inspires you?
Do you prefer watching sports or playing them yourself?
If you could live in any world country, which one would you choose?
Who is the role model for you?
If you could meet one fictional character, who would it be?
Describe your perfect day.
Which year has been the best for you so far?
What are you looking forward to right now?
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
I tag @escafandrar, @beyond-ladders, @rhyvyy, @acultura, @acherik, @ferideel, @mixedbagofships, @adespoth, @perigraph, @ad-meliora-per-aspera, @tiilav

// Bottom
As a veteran keyboard builder, I love the $169 Keychron Q1 75% ten-keyless (TKL) keyboard. Its near-perfect typing experience dominates the competition. While it's not right for those who need ergonomics and Bluetooth, it's perfect for typists who don't need a ten-key keypad.
Is the Keychron Q1 Mechanical Keyboard Right for You?
While wowing me with its marvelous and muted typing experience, the Q1 isn't without flaw.
If you're looking for the heaviest 75%, modular, hot-swap keyboard, it's the best in its class. But for those of you looking for ergonomics or wireless, there are more suitable options. A strong candidate that covers ergonomics and wireless is the Kinesis Freestyle2, a split mechanical keyboard.
Who Are Keychron?
Before I get into the pros and cons, you might want to know more about the company behind the Q1. Keychron is a newcomer to the mech market with a reputation for quality. Its first designs focused on products for the Mac. But it's since moved on to building general-use keyboards.
The Keychron Q1 is their newest flagship product, this time catering to the high-end, enthusiast market. Their selling point here isn't just hotswap sockets. Keychron has distinguished itself from the competition with an ultra-heavy case. To my knowledge, this is one of the heaviest 75-key keyboards ever made and probably one of the most gravity-challenged keyboards of 2021, period.
Although gasket-mounted plates, and other typist-oriented features, appear in multiple keyboards, such as the Mojo68, the Rama Works Kara, and the Ikki68 Aurora, I haven't seen them paired with heavier framed designs. Considering that gaskets reduce the shock of bottoming out, I'm surprised to not see them used with keyboards designed for stability. Potentially a heavy case, gasket mounts, and Poron could mean the triple crown for a stable typing platform. To date, no keyboard combines those three components.

Keychron offers three default keycaps to go with the latest Gateron Phantom series switches. To be honest, I can't tell the difference between the Phantom series and the Ink series (I reviewed the Ink series in 2020). Both have the same weights, actuation curves, and colored transparent switch housings. A more relevant comparison would be to compare regular 2021 Gaterons to the Phantom switches. In my initial testing, the difference seems to be the Phantoms are smoother. My guess is that Gateron used lower friction plastic or lubricant.
Keychron Q1 Teardown
A teardown of the Q1 reveals several innovative design features. My favorite is the ability to customize the specific level of shock absorption of the keyboard. But aside from that, there are three other components that Keychron used to great effect.
Poron Gasket-Mounted Plate
Image Gallery (3 Images)
Expand
Expand
Expand
Close
Gasket-mounted plate designs float the plate, PCB, and switches on top of a series of Poron-foam gaskets. Whenever you type, the gasket depresses, softening each keypress. Typing hard enough causes the entire plate to drop a millimeter or two. The effect causes a reduction in the harshness of bottoming a key out. Although the keycaps are not silenced, gaskets also chop down on typing sounds. That's because a special advantage of Poron over other kinds of foam is that it exhibits extreme energy muffling properties.
However, the substance that Keychron refers to as Poron looks and feels exactly like neoprene. I'm not sure whether Keychron used Poron on the inter. Then there's a denser layer of a kind of urethane foam that also appears to be a Poron layer. This layer pads the interior of the aluminum case.
Keychron included extra Poron in its kit. If you want, you can increase the amount of Poron between the plate and the base. However, I found that this actually increased the sensation of bottoming out of keys. After some experimentation, I found that fewer pieces of Poron improve the comfort of hard key presses.
Screw-In Stabilizers Vs. Plate-Mounted Stabilizers
Tumblr media
The biggest source of rattle and noise production on a keyboard is oftentimes the space bar. Different keyboard stabilizer types cause different kinds of problems though. Costar stabilizers are easier to remove but suffer from stability and noise issues. Cherry stabilizers produce less rattle but are difficult to service. Screw-in stabilizers offer the best of both. They produce less noise, are super stable, and aren't difficult to service.
Typing on the Q1's space bar feels, to overuse a word, solid. While screw-in stabilizers demonstrate a tremendous amount of side-to-side wiggle, the opposite is true of their typing stability. They are enormously stable, thanks to the fact that they are literally screwed into the motherboard. I suspect, though, that space bar removal is a big advantage here. It appears that the stabilizer's play allows for space bar removal from extreme angles. So you can pull it without the risk of damage to the keycap. I can't help but feel that screw-in stabilizers are the future of high-end keyboard design.
Poron Layer
Poron looks and feels like neoprene on first inspection. But pushing my finger into the material reveals the difference: Poron seems more durable and resistant compared to neoprene. Rather than yielding to touch as neoprene would, Poron feels almost solid and inflexible. I've read that there are different formulations of Poron, some offering consistency equivalent to neoprene.
The functional use of Poron on the base seems to further stabilize typing. I can't imagine there's a more stable typing machine out there.
Thick Aluminum Base
Image Gallery (2 Images)
Expand
Expand
Close
Another interesting feature Keychron's use of a weighted aluminum base. The base by itself weighs in at 872 grams, which is only 94 grams less than my steel-plate Varmilo VB87M 87-key keyboard. In other words, the base alone weighs more than a larger, steel-plated keyboard. The full keyboard weighs 1,623 grams, almost double my Varmilo.
The extremely heavy base makes for a stable, solid typing experience. Personally, I dislike the feel of metal-plate keyboards for touch typing. Because aluminum and steel are such great conductors of vibrations, you tend to feel on your other fingers whenever you strike a keycap. However, Keychron's approach here was to dampen each keypress while maintaining the solidity of a metal plate. The end result is solid and stable typing.
Lots of Customization Options
Keychron includes customization options for the case and switches. In future, two bare-bones models will be made: ISO and ANSI. At launch, though, only the case color and switches are customizable. The case colors include black, dark blue, and gray. As mentioned earlier, the switch options are a bit more interesting as they cover Gateron's latest switches: Phantom Red, Phantom Blue, and Phantom Brown.
QMK/VIA Support
The ultimate customization option is the ability to reprogram the keyboard from top to bottom. QMK or VIA can do just that, although it requires understanding how to flash your keyboard with firmware. It's not hard but there's a slight learning curve.
While I don't use VIA and have no familiarity with it, I am familiar with QMK. It's not hard to use, particularly if you're already familiar with flash ATMega32 processors. Those of you who have unlocked the bootloader of an Ender 3 will know what I mean.
But for those who do like to create their own custom layouts and color schemes, Keychron published their Q1 QMK source code on GitHub. The broad compatibility with QMK is probably because it uses an ATMega32 microchip, which is one of the most common processors used on QMK-supported keyboards. It's also commonly seen on 3D printers and other consumer electronics.
Backlighting and Animation Effects
Image Gallery (3 Images)
Expand
Expand
Expand
Close
The animation effects are about what you would expect on a high-end keyboard. The Q1 uses RGB SMDs instead of LEDs so there's a tremendous amount of color variation, like on all RBG backlit keyboard. However, it's worth noting that can set custom colors using QMK Configurator, so if you need a particular shade, that's possible. On top of that, there are numerous animations, including several multi-hued, rainbow-like variations.
While the backlight looks good, Keychron's standout feature is how they combined front-facing lighting with transparent switch housings. The combination allows for more intense animation effects, since the light is visible from the portion of the keyboard that faces the typist. However, while this is an interesting visual, I'd have preferred shine-through keycaps with front-printed lettering.
What's Not Good?
While great, not everything is perfect with the Keychron Q1.
No Function Layer Markings
Something I found irritating on the Q1: there are nonfunction layer markings on the keycaps. Because there's no documentation, this led to a lot of guesswork as to how to control backlights.
Expensive For a Keyboard in This Class
While $169 isn't the most expensive 75% keyboard, it's also a fair bit more expensive than the competition in this particular market segment. Razer, for example, sells a wired 75% for under $100. And while Razer's 75% isn't nearly as nice, $69 is enough to buy another low-end mechanical keyboard, such as the Vissles V84.
Front-Facing Lighting Paired with Top-Printed Legends
LED lighting scheme is designed for front-lit shine through keycaps.
That's partly by design as the keycaps aren't shine-through. The goal was to use a semi-transparent switch housing to allow for various visual effects.
No Capslock Status Indicator
Most keyboards include some kind of indicator that capslock is turned on. The Q1 doesn't provide any hint that you might be accidentally yelling at your friends and family over email.
The Future Will Mean Lower Prices
Gasket-mounted plates, screw-in stabilizers, and dampening material like silicone and Poron are the future. While the Keychron might seem like a good deal today at $169, next year there will be similar options for less money.
Should You Buy the Keychron Q1?
If you're looking for a high-end typist's keyboard, the Keychron Q1 beats the keycaps off the overpriced Razer BlackWidow. But if you want an ergonomic or wireless keyboard, look elsewhere.
For those looking for a low-cost hot-swap alternative, I suggest the Glorious Modular Mechanical Keyboard. The GMMK offers the same modular hot-swap design with a focus on entry-level keyboard enthusiasts.

I Love Rust
By that I mean Rust the programming language, not Rust the videogame; sorry to anyone coming here thinking this post was about that.
I've been trying to learn Rust the past few months, and I think I'm finally getting a grasp of it---at least to some extent---and as of late, I feel like the language has started to click into place for me.
For those who don't know, I have a pretty diverse theoretical background in programming. In 2012 I learned C# at a "profession academy", in 2013 I learned Scala and Haskell out of my own curiosity, in 2014 I learned ANSI C (aka C89) as part of an imperative programming course at the university, and in 2017 I dabbled with some C++ as part of an embedded programming project.
In a sense, my interests have always been a mix of procedural and functional code (functional in the sense of FP, not in the sense that the code works). When I write C#, I go out of my way to make the code as functional as possible, relying heavily on delegates (C#'s closures) and Linq to bend the various collection types to my will. One could argue that this functional approach to C# comes as a result of my intense love for Scala, which marries FP with OOP in an interesting natural way.
In comes Rust. I would mostly describe the language as a weird merger between C++ and Scala, in fact, I'm surprised more people don't make the syntactic connection between the languages; take this example:
Scala
def safeDivide(a: Double, b: Double): Option[Double] = { return if(b != 0) Some(a / b) else None }
Rust
fn safe_divide(a: f64, b: f64) -> Option<f64> { if b != 0.0 { Some(a / b) } else { None } }
Apart from the different name for a 64-bit floating point number, and the explicit curly braces in if-statements, the languages are damn near identical in a lot of ways, even down to their use of Associated Types (called Abstract Types in Scala).
It is however important to note that Rust---unlike Scala---is not object oriented, even though it does use a few OOP ideas, the language itself is almost entirely procedural + functional, whereas Scala is object-oriented + functional.
Rust has no classes and no inheritance, but does instead have composition through traits, which are interface-like constructs with a few more built-in features. Traits let you extend existing types at will, and they even let you implement default behaviour similar to abstract classes.
The weird thing is that I feel at home in Rust---just like I do in Scala. Even though Rust is all about explicit programming, foregoing implicit conversions in favour of having the user type everything out, where Scala is quite literally the opposite, I still feel at home. It has that feeling of C's low-levelness which I actually really like. It also has all the cool constructs I love from Haskell. But unlike Haskell---as much as I love it---I feel like I actually get work done in it. It feels like a workhorse language, just like the C family of languages.
Just the other day I implemented a word generator for a constructed language I'm making, which was capable of taking in a sequence of rules, spitting out a string of letters, and I did it in like 56 lines of code. When that compiled, when it ran without a hitch, and worked exactly how I envisioned it I was completely blown away. I did that in less than 100 lines of code?! Doing something simiar in C# would require 4 times that; not because C# is a weak language by any means, but because of the sheer number of classes and files and ritualistic public static blah blah blah you need just to get any code running. Naturally, the current version of the code is a bit longer; somewhere around 74 lines of code, but that's due to the fact that I added a bit more functionality, including a few macros that make the writing of rule sequences incredibly painless and intuitive.
I think this code was when I realised Rust had clicked for me... At least a little bit. I still have troubles with it; some of the things about the language are a bit confusing to me still, but that's natural with any language, especially one with a learning curve as steep as Rust's---and steep it is.
Like C and C++, Rust does not have or use a runtime, and thus does not have a garbage collector. Sounds really annoying to work with, but actually not! For the most part, Rust's compiler does all the memory de-allocation for you before the code even runs! Following a set of very strict rules, Rust manages to know exactly when and where in a program memory needs to be de-allocated, so you don't have to do it yourself. This does of course mean you need to know exactly what you're doing, or Rust will tell you you're doing it wrong. "Fighting the borrow checker" is a common newbie issue in Rust, and for good reason, you basically have to throw every habit you have out the window, especially if you're coming from a language with a garbage collector.
That said, I still love it! My code might not be up to par with the best rustacians (the Rust-community word for a Rust-programmer), but it's slowly getting there.

  House Painting Process
Painting Services and Cost in Omaha NE: interior painting service House painting is a job we usually reserve for a weekend. But when all the steps and tools necessary start to add up, painting your house can become overwhelming. Here is a brief overview of what painting looks like with Eppley Handyman Services.
Select Your Paint Color: Choosing your paint color may be more difficult than you expect. With seemingly endless options and all the different shades of white, how do you start? Eppley Handyman Services samples portal offers a curated selection of our favorite paint colors.
Cover the area: We don’t want dust or paint getting where it doesn’t need to be. Our house painters’ first step is to lay drop cloths and plastic over the floors and furniture in the space we are painting.
Prep the Walls: Since a smooth wall surface makes for better paint adhesion, our house painters will then prep the surfaces before painting.
Apply new paint: Our expert house painters will next apply your quality paint. The time of this step depends on the surface and the paint, but our painters will make sure to work quickly and efficiently.
Clean-Up: We want to make sure your house looks like new and that includes our house painters cleaning up after our paint job.
  Types of Spaces to Paint
Painting Services and Cost in Omaha NE: This said, walls are relatively easy to paint when you are just doing a simple coat. But there are surfaces to paint that require more nuance than we realize: Wainscoting, doors, trim and crown molding, and cabinets, to name a few. And then depending on the rooms you are choosing to paint, you’ll need to use different finishes that are appropriate to those spaces.
Bedroom Painting: It doesn’t get more personal than the bedroom. It’s the space where we spend a third of our lives. So why not give it the love and paint it deserves.
Bathroom Painting: The bathroom is one of the smallest places in our homes, meaning we usually forget about it when decorating. But, it also deserves some love and care. The proper paint will not only beautify your bathroom but make it last longer.
Kitchen Painting: Something as simple as a fresh coat of paint can make a huge difference in your kitchen. Whether you are painting your cabinets or freshening up the walls, it’s an affordable way to renovate your kitchen.
Living Room Painting: The living room requires a bit more care and thought to make it the welcoming place it’s supposed to be. Coordinating that with the rest of the decor is also important.
Hallway Painting: If we think about it we may use our hallways more than any other space in the house. So give it an upgrade with a durable paint that can handle all the traffic.
Entryway Painting: Everyone comes through the entryway, so make a strong first impression with the right paint color.

  Exterior Paint Colors
Painting Services and Cost in Omaha NE: When deciding to paint your house, often one of the first steps is to choose your paint color. There are many elements to consider when choosing which color to paint the exterior of your house.
  ●       Landscape – Your environment will influence which paint colors you wish to paint on the exterior. If your house is covered by a lot of shade, you may consider a lighter color. However, if you wish to blend into the trees, you may want a darker color. It’s critical to think about how you want your home’s exterior to complement its environment.
●       Architecture – Perhaps you have a Victorian-style house or a traditional colonial. They are both very different architectural styles with different peaks and accents. However your home is built, colors can help draw attention to specific architectural details.
●       Existing Colors – Your roof, your driveway, your gravel, your mulch are not going to change colors when you paint. Consider how you want your exterior house paint colors to accent these features of your home.
  Exterior Painting Project
Painting Services and Cost in Omaha NE: exterior house painting service There is a lot that goes into painting the exterior of a house. It will likely take longer than a weekend. So if you aren’t prepared to handle the following, you may want to hire a professional to handle all of your house painting needs.
  ●       Wash – Before painting, the exterior of your house will need to be washed. You can use a pressure washer to do this. It’s best when you start at the top so all of the dirt and grime will go down off the siding and trim.
●       Scrape – Next, it’s important to scrape any loose paint off of the siding of the house. It’s important to have drop cloths below where you work so these paint chips don’t land in the grass.
●       Sand – Sanding is a necessary step to smooth the exterior surfaces and create an ideal surface for the paint to adhere to.
●       Patch – If there are any remaining areas that need repair, they’ll need to be patched up before the exterior is primed.
●       Prime – Next the surface will need to be primed. Each prime is different. The paint manufacturer will indicate how many coats are needed.
●       Caulk – Seal all of the cracks and corners so no moisture will seep through.
●       Paint – Finally, it’s time to paint the house in the color of your choice.

TIPS
Painting Services and Cost in Omaha NE: One of the tricky parts of owning a business is getting the perfect look for your building. You want to appear professional and interesting in order to differentiate your business from your competition. Take the right steps to get great results from your commercial painting project to enhance the look of your building and your business. Here are five tips for getting better results.
  Choose the Right Colors
While you want your business to catch the eye of potential customers, be careful to select colors that will attract attention without being overpowering. Having one bold-accent wall can really make a statement, but remember: less is more when it comes to very bright colors. By selecting a calm color palette, you can avoid overwhelming your customers. Adding bold color through pictures, pillows, and other small elements are temporary and less expensive ways to add a pop of color.
Take the Time to Clear the Work Area
When commercial painting companies start a job, you won’t see them start applying color until the room is fully prepped. Before a contractor can begin prepping the room, they will need your employees to clear their work area. The best thing to do to expedite your painting project is to clear off work stations, remove art from the walls, and push light-weight furniture to the center of the room. By doing this yourself, you can save money on prep time (a cost of hiring the painting crew).
  Use Primer
While some individuals may think that primer is an unnecessary step, many professionals say otherwise. Having that barrier in between the wall and your new layer of paint can prevent the color from turning dull once it dries and it can also help it to last longer. This problem often occurs because the compound used to fill holes and imperfections can pull the moisture right out of your freshly applied paint. If you are painting over a bright or deep color, primer is a good way to protect the integrity of the new color.
  COST
How Much Does a Gallon of Paint Cost?
Painting Services and Cost in Omaha NE: A gallon of paint costs $15 to $40 and covers about 350 square feet with one coat. Designer varieties can run over $100 per gallon. ●       Trim painting costs $500-$1,500 or $1-$3 per linear foot.
Painting an Apartment or Home as a Renter
If the responsibility is yours, you’ll pay $1,000 to $3,000 on average to repaint an apartment. Some buildings and landlords have pre-selected painters, while others will contract companies on an as-needed basis. If your landlord or building doesn't have a regular pro, see if you can DIY it to save up to 85 percent on labor.
If you're moving in and selecting a non-neutral color, understand that your landlord may require you to redo the walls the original color when you move out. Be ready to make that investment down the road.
There are cases where apartment complexes allow you to choose from a color wheel of neutral hues before you move in. Some charge a fee for calling in a handyman or other pro to do the walls, while most offer it as a benefit of signing a lease.
Commercial Painting Costs Per Square Foot
Painting Services and Cost in Omaha NE: Commercial painting costs $2 to $6 per square foot. Exterior jobs on multi-level buildings might run you twice that much due to setup time and accessibility. Commercial and residential projects are priced similarly.
  Affordable Handyman House Painting Prices

A Heart’s Thoughts - Part Two
A/N: Okay so I was too impatient to wait much longer with this part. For this chapter, we need 30 notes again so I can post the next chapter~
Warnings: slight suggestions of depression ???
Synopsis: Everyone has their own two powers, but it’s up to luck whether you’ll end up being tortured for it or not.
Welcome to our little Empowered village, the place where you’ll learn to use your powers for good- or, that’s what we were told.
Pairing: Chanyeol x (female) OC
Word Count: 2037
<-- Previous || next -->
Tumblr media
“I hate physical training.”
Cecilia let out a sigh as she slumped towards the enormous training room where all Empowered students, divided into a male group and a female group, gathered every day to spend four hours getting beaten.
“I actually quite like it,” Clover smiled and walked with light steps alongside Cecilia, who gave her best friend a look of disbelief, paired with slight annoyance.
“Shut up, Clover, you wouldn’t like it nearly as much if you weren’t able to see everyone’s movements before they happen. Just you wait until one day your powers disappear and you’re left with those toothpicks that you call arms.”
Clover, unfazed by her friend’s snide remarks just chuckled, “our powers won’t disappear, Cecilia.”
“I wish they did, though,” Cecilia mumbled under her breath and Clover turned to face her, “what was that?”
“Nothing, nothing, let’s just get over with this.” Cecilia let out yet another sigh before she caught sight of someone she had dearly missed.
“Oh my god FELICIA!” She wanted to run up to her friend but changed her mind and instead, tried to jog as fast as she could, ending up sprinting the last few meters and colliding with her other best friend.
“You-! How dare you not even call us over summer break?! I thought you’d really disappeared this time!” She let go of Felicia, who was smiling softly and looked from Cecilia to Clover and back, “I missed you guys, I thought I was gonna die with none of my close friends near.”
Cecilia softly slapped her friend’s shoulder and turned to motion for Clover to join their hug.
“That reminds me, have you guys seen Annabelle anywhere?” Felicia looked questioningly at the two, who shook their heads, slight worry washing over them when a cheerful voice spoke up from behind, “looking for me?”
The three turned to face into the direction the voice came from, and their reactions came all at the same time.
“Woah, calm down, I really wasn’t gone for that long,” Annabelle chuckled and broke free from the group hug as she looked fondly at her friend’s faces.
“It’s nice to be with you again, though. How come we never seem to go out at the same time?”
Felicia was about to answer, but Cecilia interrupted, “guys, have you heard? Apparently, they’re letting the males and females train together as of this year.”
She saw the expressions of her friends turn grim and she unwillingly saw their worried thoughts and wavering feelings. Aside from the males in the Class’ dorms, there wasn’t much interaction, creating a tense situation at the thought of suddenly having to train with hundreds of people they didn’t know.
“Ah, i-is that so?” Felicia’s voice came weak as she looked down, her frame already getting unclear as Cecilia grabbed her arm and squeezed it.
“It’s no big deal. Don’t let this worry you so much that you disappear,” She flashed her friend a small smile and she saw her feelings grow a bit brighter.
Clover clapped her hands, “we really need to get going now, thought. You know they hate it when students are late for their training,” she eyed the three friends and smiled, “I don’t see anything wrong with your futures, so don’t worry. I’ll protect all of you from harm.”
Hearing this, Annabelle also smiled and nodded, “and if anything does go wrong, I’ll simply turn back time and prevent it from happening. We’ve got this!”
Cecilia eyed Felicia and saw her feelings being fully cleared from negativity, as well as her thoughts.
The training building seemed even bigger than usual when they stepped inside and were welcomed by a huge crowd, hundreds of voices were heard and Cecilia grew pale as she abruptly stopped walking and faintly touched her ear with her right hand, tears unwillingly welling up in her eyes and at these times, she felt grateful that she couldn’t walk around without shades. She hated it when people saw her being weak.
Felicia noticed she’d stopped walking and turned around to give Cecilia a worried look, before realization washed over her as she came to notice how loud the crowd was. She nudged her friend and focused on one thought, knowing that Cecilia could read it, as she let her powers work on her best friend.
“The people won’t see you now, you don’t have to be strong.”
Cecilia read her best friend’s thought through her squinted eyes and she smiled faintly. She could still see and hear everyone around her, but no one knew of her presence. She sunk through her knees to the ground, clutching at her ears as she let a tear escape, “just one,” she told herself as she clutched harder and fought the other tears that were welling up in her eyes back. She said she’d just let one tear escape, so she was going to make exactly that happen. No more tears were allowed.
She opened her eyes as her ears slowly grew adjusted to the sounds, and she saw a tall figure standing in front of her. She looked up and saw to her surprise that it was Chanyeol, the boy she’d met earlier, and he was staring in her general direction. She stood up and took a step to the side and she saw his muscles stiffen as his eyes also moved and wandered over the spot where she was standing, but not focusing on her.
 “I swear someone’s here.”
His thoughts confirmed her suspicions as she remembered what his powers were; controlling heat and sensing presences.
Cecilia huffed softly, surprised that Felicia’s powers seemed to be incomplete. Not that it mattered, since this man in front of her was the only person in this entire world with this power, since every power is unique, and gets passed to a new life when someone dies.
She saw Chanyeol stretch out his hand and she half expected it to touch her, even though she knew it wouldn’t, and indeed, his hand went through her. She saw his disappointed look and his confused thoughts as he shook his head and looked through the crowd. She knew he recognized some people, and her heart churned every time she saw him disregard his fond thoughts of his friends, or suppressing the urge to go to them.
“What is holding you back?” She whispered softly, and she suddenly felt a hand on her shoulder, causing her to jump up in surprise and she turned around, facing a worried Felicia.
“I’m pretty sure you didn’t hear any of what was said, but basically, we’re going to be split into four groups, males and females together, and the groups shift every day.”
Cecilia was grateful for her friend’s great understanding that she really couldn’t bear hearing any more voices, and came up with the idea to communicate with her just by thinking. She nodded slightly and Felicia smiled, letting go of her, “you’re visible again now.”
Felicia turned away as a teacher approached and told them where they were supposed to go. They served Cecilia a look, clearly noticing her pale face, and they raised three fingers before pointing to the other side of the building, making it clear to her that she was in the third group and was supposed to go to the other side of the building.
She gave the teacher a relieved smile before starting to walk away, but heard a panicked voice in her mind before she could. She turned around, recognizing the voice and she immediately found the person who’d managed to come through the barricade she’d set up for herself so she wouldn’t go crazy from people’s voices constantly entering her mind. She saw Chanyeol stiffening as the teacher approached, standing in something that looked like a fighting stance.
She saw his feelings; anger, fear, despair. The teacher grabbed his arm and tried to pull him with them, but he didn’t seem to work with them. He wasn’t clearly trying to get out of the teacher’s grip, but she saw him trying to push his heels into the hard ground.
She felt bile rising up in her throat as she saw his thoughts and realized what was happening, but she stood frozen on her spot, unable to move and help prevent it.
Apparently, this wasn’t a teacher, but a member of the council, which was basically a branch of the government in this Empowered village, and this person had literally muted Chanyeol as they tried to drag him with them to prevent him from calling for help.
She now realized why his voice had rung through her mind, “his real voice is being muted, strengthening his mind’s voice,” she thought and she focused on what was happening with the thoughts of both people, and she let out a soft gasp as something other than resisting thoughts flashed through Chanyeol’s mind.
“Don’t think that,” she whispered softly, as she took a step forward, but she saw Chanyeol’s muscles relaxing in defeat and he let himself be pulled out of the building, both his mind and his heart in resonance with the same negativity. The words that lingered in Chanyeol’s thoughts were still clear in Cecilia’s mind as she abruptly turned around and started speed walking to the room she was supposed to be in, angry tears prickling in her eyes.
“Maybe dying would be better than going through this any longer,” kept sounding through her mind in Chanyeol’s deep voice, distracting her from the physical training she was supposed to do, and she hadn’t realized what exactly she’d been doing until her knees gave out and her body collided with the hard floor, snapping her out of the mild trance she’d been in and making her painfully aware of the burning sensation in her legs.
She looked around and saw a teacher walk up to her, “wait, teach, what was I doing before I fell?”
The teacher was caught off guard by her sudden question and she bit your lip as the pain in her legs intensified.
“You were running.”
Cecilia cursed under her breath and the teacher gave her a surprised look, but got distracted when the door burst open and someone came walking in, looking around the room until they found Cecilia, walking up to her.
“Are you Cecilia? Clover suddenly panicked and told me to go find you.”
Cecilia stared at the boy in front of her and smiled to herself as she put her arm over her eyes, despite it pushing her shades back uncomfortably, and silently thanked her best friend for always being considerate, even when they weren’t together.
She let her head fall down on the floor and let out a wheezing breath, the pain finally catching up to her.
“Could you please help me get to the infirmary?”
The boy looked a bit surprised, but silently helped her get up, letting her lean heavily on him as they slowly walked out of the building to the school’s infirmary.
Usually, the infirmary was pretty silent, even when it wasn’t empty, but today, a low growl was heard coming through a closed door, followed by a hiss. Cecilia knew the boy next to her didn’t hear it, but she listened closely, trying to identify the voice in the other room.
“Please, it hurts-”
She heard the soft voice coming from the other room as the boy sat her down on a nearby bed, waiting for the school’s nurse to come.
“Uhm, I’m Jongdae, by the way.”
His introduction snapped Cecilia out of her concentration and she looked up at him, flashing him a small smile, “I’m Cecilia, thank you for helping me and listening to-”
She got interrupted by a door opening and when she turned to look who it was, she saw a familiar figure.
“Chanyeol?” She called out in surprise, and the boy’s expression changed from tired to surprised, mixed with a little fear. He scanned the room until he found Cecilia and she saw his expression become grim and his feelings grew negative before he turned around and exited the infirmary, leaving Cecilia and Jongdae alone again without saying a word.

Blog #2 part 2
Over the course of the last month, I have taken to falling asleep with the television on. Each night, when I have turned the light off, I turn the television in my room back on and switch my Blu-Ray on to the Netflix app. I have not done this in hopes of watching a show to put me to sleep – I have never been able to easily fall asleep to any kind of programming, whether it be television or film, unless I have made the conscious decision to sleep. Rather, this has become a pattern of behaviour as a sort of background noise wherein I leave it playing at a near total loss of volume in order to provide an easier ushering for me into sleep. Part of this has to do with having an overactive mind which forces an insomniac response to sleep. To counteract this lack of ease into slumber, I leave Netflix running with Friends (1994-2004) on in the background, given that it is one series I do not really need to pay attention to after having watched it numerous times, and sleep with a mask to cover my eyes from the brightness. While my Blu-Ray does not have a timer to shut itself off, my TV does – although Netflix will continue to run until it has gone through three episodes and asks whether its user is still watching, which I do not respond to.
Part of this is what Sullivan (2013) refers to when he writes, “If you think about how you watch television, there are probably times when you are sitting rapt with attention (…) and other times when the television serves merely as background while you focus on other tasks” (p. 85). The latter part of this statement is what my end-of-the-night viewing habits refer to. I am not watching Friends as an attentive viewer; I simply leave this program running in the background to allow myself an easier lead into sleep after several weeks of finding it difficult to manage this on my own. I am not sitting there, as Sullivan puts it, “rapt with attention” because I do not need to be. Not only is this due to many years of watching the series so often that I no longer have to pay mind to it to gain some use out of it, but it is also a sitcom; which tends to have a more inconsequential story structure, unlike something like – say – Game of Thrones (2011-) that requires focus to get what is useful out of it. Rather, having Friends on in the background provides a wholly different use than what some might require of their audience experience.
Despite Netflix’s lack of affiliation with Nielson, there is some data that can be transcribed from this particular viewing habit which can illuminate one of the problems allowing too much credence in Nielson ratings has. Sullivan (2013) states, “Media executives and advertisers have typically equated audience size with quality or viewer satisfaction” (p. 85). In a way, this means that the executives and advertisers believe that however many people are viewing a program, it must mean that it is either a well-made program or it gratifies the audience member in some manner. From my own experiences with Friends, this is not necessarily true. While I have, in the past, viewed Friends because it is an enjoyable sitcom that I believe to be well-made; my actions here do not represent that particular audience habit. This action is a much more passive endeavour wherein, if I had been watching the series as it aired on television, I would not be intaking the program the way an advertiser might like me to. Since I am not actually paying any close attention, the ads – or commercials – would not be fulfilling their purpose as an incentive for the program getting to air. This would be particularly disconcerting for a series that is ongoing; thus, it would rely on the money it receives for the ads presented during its airtime.
Buzzard (2015) explores this further in her article on audience ratings when she discusses ratings being based around audience size, “Audience size, known as exposure, literally serves as the currency for determining the cost paid by advertisers for network and spot advertising” (p. 512). This is part of the problem there is in relying as heavily as we do on Nielson ratings – it cannot give advertisers a complete grasp of how well the audience is perceiving the commercials that are being produced. Audience size does not equate comprehension or attentive behaviour, nor is it necessarily accurate enough to have as much control over the television medium as it presently has. Without going too far off of a tangent regarding how problematic Nielson ratings can be, it is important to note that there are not necessarily any more reliable ways of creating a currency for television.
Circling back around specifically to Netflix, I find it difficult to try to perceive how they get by with as much original content as they do on the limited funds of a monthly paid service. It does seem simpler, as a streaming service, to discover an accurate depiction of just how many viewers watch a particular series or film, but – again – how can they know for sure just how many users are paying attention? Perhaps this does not matter as much to them, given that it is a paid for service, but it is certainly something to think about.

I spent the last 10 hours a day writing things for work the last three days and I sit down for a little relaxation time and  all my brain wants to do is write. more. of. this. AU. Not an actual fic, noooo. Not any of my WIPs that are so oooold. No. My brain wants to write bits and pieces of something that will never. be. ARG!
Part 3 of my mess of Time Travel AU daydreams and imaginings:
-Grievous thought the little Jedi was easy pickings.  Short and puny, his lightsaber hardly worthy of seizing as one of his many trophies but then the Jedi moved and Grievous realized this one was going for a precision kill. There was no desire to capture him. There was no buried anger making him sloppy. There were no fancy flourishes with his lightsabers, the Jedi saved his flourishes for his whole body. Suddenly two of his limbs are on the ground, and oh, look, another one, is that a clone with one of his lightsabers? No, wait-----!
-Vader didn't like to admit it but wherever he played at being a Separatist Sith (it made his stomach turn every time, Kix had even tried to prescribe him something for the nausea) he did enjoy hanging out with the simple battle droids. He wanted to hate them. Hate came easy to him after all but even with their restrictive programming and short life spans they had such character and personality. They were funny. He tried to reprogram as many as he could. They may not be organic but he thought they too deserved better than their lot.
-Ventress was enjoying herself. She hadn't known she could enjoy herself. She had been angry and desperate and fighting and fighting for so long that she didn't even recognize the feeling until Luke had smiled at her and asked her if she was having fun yet. She had nearly snapped back a reply, (it had reminded her of Kenobi's needling) until she caught herself and realized he genuinely meant it. He wanted her to be having fun and she looked around and realized that she was. Ventress enjoyed every minute of undermining Sidious and Dooku. She was being freely taught all manner of new Force techniques and wasn't required to grovel or prove herself before some dark master or mindlessly obey some council. She wasn't afraid of being stabbed in the back. Vader would have the decency to face her head on if he wanted to and Luke didn't seem interested in either redeeming her or condemning her. She could just . . . enjoy.
Ventress' New Top Five Favorite Things About Life Included: 1. Making the Trade Federation cry when she destroyed their ships and stole from them. 2. Dooku's face when he realized she had tricked him and Luke and Vader had somehow beat him at his own game. 3. Terrorizing local planets only to say "Just Kidding!" when peace was declared. 4. Gambling on Luke and Vader with the locals whenever they went swoop bike racing, or pod racing or whatever speeder-they-could-get-their-hands-on-racing after they declared peace on a planet.  She always made a killing. 5. Tortur--- ahem! helping train the Force sensitive clones.
Three Things Ventress is REALLY looking forward to:
1.  Kenobi and Skywalker's face the first time they face Vader. 2. Kenobi and Skywalker's face the first time they meet Vader and Luke. 3. Sidious' face when his plans unravel and Vader and Luke put him down hard.
She has already used her gambling winnings to invest in a high class holocamera. Ventress prides herself on being prepared.
-Padme has met many Jedi but Luke has to be one of the stranger ones because he is just so . . . ordinary. There doesn't seem to be anything very special about him at first glance. He doesn't have that air of power around him that members of the Council do.  He doesn't radiate danger or have that battle ready edge that sometimes seems to burn through Anakin. He doesn't command in that stated solemn voice of all knowing Jedi wisdom.  Padme would have though him just another young man, untested, untried, someone that seemed so very young to her if it wasn't for that look in his eyes and the words he spoke. He declared peace, and people believed it. He said freedom, and she knew he would make it so. He spoke of the love and caring he had for his companions and his father (a Jedi with a father? If he was here, she never saw him) that she had never heard any Jedi speak openly and publicly about. She could see the love and caring in his eyes. He wore his feelings openly and without guilt. She wondered if someday Anakin would ever be able to speak of her that way, to anyone, without feeling like he was betraying Obi-Wan or the Order just by doing so. Whoever Luke was, he had her support and she strongly suspected Anakin would agree with her. She couldn't wait for the two of them to meet.
-Vader was not stalking. He wasn't! Padme had settled in for the night after she and Luke had had dinner and Vader just wanted to make sure there was no more assassination attempt or kidnapping or explosion to disturb her rest. He would just stay here and enjoy the quiet evening.  The fact that he was under her window (which was open! Why wasn't it locked? Anyone could come in! C-3P0 was not useful as protection after all.) was purely coincidence. It was a comfortable spot though and there was room for Luke to sit too when he came out to join him. He hadn’t told Luke about his mother but Luke just knew. In the dark no one could see Luke lean against his father's shoulder. In the dark no one could see Vader leaning back.
-Desperate, Palpatine sends Cade Bane to hunt down this rogue Jedi making peace of all things and take him out. He can’t have Jedi making peace. He is passively aggressively getting everyone to believe the Jedi are behind the war to gain power while using the war to kill them off.  Given his past victories against the Order, Palpatine is sure Bane won't fail.
-Bane fails and fails miserably for several reasons. First, Luke being a long time Tatooine native and having been dealing with bounty hunters chasing Han (or sometimes chasing Luke himself due to the enormous bounty Vader put on his head) for the past 2-3 years in the future makes Luke prepared for all of Bane's tricks.
-"Vader put a bounty on your head?" Fives asked incredulously. Before Luke can answer Vader cuts in defensively "I needed to find my son quickly and at the time he had chosen to throw his lot in with unscrupulous rebels and  criminals." Luke rolls his eyes. "My friends are not criminals." Even with his mask on it is clear that Vader is giving him a Look. "Leia says that rebelling against an illegal government is not a crime, Father!" “I should ground you for saying such treasonous lies! You sound like a-a Separatist!” “Father, you are pretending to be a Separatist right now!”
-”Do not get in between them when they start talking politics,” Rex advises Ahsoka firmly, as she nervously fingers her lightsaber as the two men argue. “Sometimes I don’t think even they know what side they are on other than each other’s side.”
-Second, Bane fails because Vader no longer cares about waiting to attack your enemy until he shoots first or giving fair warning to an enemy. Bane came for Luke. Bane had nearly killed Ahsoka and Padme before.
-Third, Bane also didn't expect Force sensitive clones, battle trained, unpredictable and protective of their teacher. They may not have been very skilled yet at saber play but the three brothers moved in sync with each other and with speed and vicious strength that would make even accomplished Jedi impressed. (Vader wants Luke to take away Hardcase’s second lighstaber. He’s going to stab the wrong person if he is not careful. He’s going to stab Luke and then Vader cannot be held responsible for what he will do. Luke asks Ahsoka for help.)
-Every time Luke talks to Ahsoka or asks her a question while he is near his father, Vader goes stiff and inches away as unobtrusively as possible. Which is not that unobtrusive. Is he  . . . scared of me? Ahsoka wonders.
-Fourth, Bane also didn't expect Ventress. Bane ends up very very dead and Vader and Ventress wastes no time gathering further evidence of Palpatine's betrayal.
-Luke and Vader vacillate about when they can confront Palpatine. They take turns getting all ansy about just flying to Coruscant and killing him, especially after it was clear that he is behind most of the attempts on Padme's life when she is sent out on Senate missions and the chips in the clones heads and the whole kriffing war. But given that everyone still likes the Chancellor and not enough clones are free from the chips in their heads, they decide not to risk it until they are certain they can not only beat him but burn his plans down with him.
-Sometimes Vader argues that they should leave some of Palpatine's plans intact. The Republic is a corrupt bloated beast. The Jedi Order easily fell prey to the Sith and they are in need of reforms. The Empire wasn't all bad. They had some very nice capital ships after all.  Luke usually stops what he is doing when Vader starts on those thoughts and grabs his father by the arm and suggest they go flying or racing or, oh look Father, have you seen a ship of this model in this condition before? Why don't we take it apart together and make it go faster?
-Luke is not interested in ruling the galaxy. Luke is pretty sure that if Vader thinks about it, Vader knows that Vader shouldn't be ruling the galaxy. He won't enjoy it at all, Luke is sure about that. Luke has realized that his father is happiest, is at peace, when he can protect the people he loves, when he can take action in the face of the things that threaten the people he love, when he can be open and accepted for being just that. Luke is also pretty sure after meeting his mom that she wouldn't appreciate being given the galaxy to rule by her future Sith husband either. (Vader argues that Padme would be great as Empress. He is sure she could see the wisdom of it and she would be so great at it. Luke breaks out the big guns and suggest the two of them soup up a starfighter with future technology). As much as the Republic has serious problems (Sith infestation being one of them and slavery and corruption and apathy for the needs of sentient etc. etc.) Emperors are not the solution.
Luke wishes Leia was here. She would know what to do.

How Digital Marketing Agencies Will Change Due to Covid - 19
Since the outbreak of the global pandemic COVID-19, many businesses are on a huge loss, but digital marketing agencies might, in fact, leap forward due to the novel Coronavirus. However, to leap forward, agencies need to concentrate on new planning, customer needs, and communication strategies. But, before that, if you own an agency, then you first need to know what impact will COVID-19 have and how things will change.
What Changes Will It Cause on Marketing Strategies
Due to the effect of COVID-19, at some level, the product market has also been altered for nearly every category and there have been clear changes in online demand and supply. As a consequence, digital marketing agencies should focus on their own product-market fit and also of their customers. This will be the most crucial exercise for the rest of 2020.
How Can You Win?
You need to concentrate on your customer and improve your strategies around their new challenges. For instance, there has been a drastic decrease in the searches "near me" terms while a surge in terms like "delivery". There has been a 15% increase in the traffic of YouTube whereas at the same time the advertising revenue has fallen down. Digital marketing agencies need to change their pricing, their services, and the way they take clients to the market.
What Changes Will It Cause in Organizations
Without any doubt, due to this pandemic, the way all the organization's functions will definitely change for a short period of time. Working remotely, the employees and the employers will get used to the current habit. In most cases, rent is not cheap and as a general rule, the profitability in the agency is low. Typically, agencies have between 5% to 30% of net profit and among that cost, rent plays a big part as the agencies usually love to have a good office which helps them to attract staff and surprise the customers. But, if the staff wants to work from home and the customers don't want to meet in the office, then it's a big advantage for the company. The best thing is that these savings or money can be invested more in employee success and client success.
But not having an office can lead to bigger problems such as the absence of team or company culture, lack of collaboration, community, and much more. It always feels good to work in an office together with your teammates. Without an office, the agency owners may face challenges related to management and will need to focus on accountability, and operations like:
● Regular show-up with team
● Per week responsibilities
● Time management with clients
How Can You Win?
This is the duty of every agency owner to decide, but, for the moment a few key things that might help an agency to function properly including video calls are;
● Non-work-related things or chatting with team members
● weekly multiple department check-ins.
What Changes Will It Cause in Communication?
Usually, clients love to interact with you or have an in-person meeting at their organization or at your organization. They love to enjoy a cup of hot coffee or have a quick snack break. But now, everything has completely disappeared. This puts up a necessity to everyone who attends those meetings just the same way they would do in person, but through a video call.
How Do You Need to Show Up for A Video Call?
Dress up nicely as you dress up regularly for your office, comb your hair properly, and make sure you are sitting in a bright and tidy room with a decent background that is presentable. Also, a nice set-up can definitely impress your clients.
Now imagine a scenario, where you are having a video call with one of your staff members who are in a sweatshirt, messed up hair, sitting in a dark room with their laundry falling apart on the floors. Now imagine a second scenario, where a second staff member is all dressed up nicely, with nicely combed hair, and has clear lighting on their face along with a whiteboard in the background with the company which can be used to note down the essential things. In the course of the meeting, you watch your digital marketing strategies are being mentioned and the same has been delivered to you. It is a completely new experience- the one that you've grown to believe in a professional environment.
More and more businesses are going digital and so will the marketing. It is important for marketers to think about the buyer persona and updated strategies. Digital marketing services need to respond effectively to employee needs, new customer strategies, and communication strategies, in order to thrive during this pandemic that has impacted everyone around the world.

    Acoustic Hot Tuna returns
to the Colonial Theatre
  By Rob Nagy
Pivotal members of the legendary Jefferson Airplane, Rock and Roll Hall of Famer’s Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Casady return to the concert stage with acoustic Hot Tuna.
“It’s just going to be me and Jack,” says Kaukonen while on tour in the southwest.
“I think an acoustic show is a little more internalized which is satisfying. I’m not sure each of us knows what the other is going to do. We listen really well and we’re willing to go wherever the other person is leading.”
“We want to give people the best possible experience that we can,” adds Kaukonen. “We’ve got a great team that helps us do that in terms of sound and all that stuff, the palate to express ourselves. In terms of the show, to let people hear the stories and in some way be part of the conversation.”
“Jack is my oldest friend,” says Kaukonen. “If you talk to him you know that he and I are really different people but we’ve always tolerated (laughs) and respected each other personally and artistically. I think that just makes it easier to get together and have fun.”
Relocating from the east coast to San Francisco in the early ‘60s, Kaukonen befriended fellow guitarist Paul Kantner who he joined along with vocalist Marty Balin and later, bassist Jack Casady, to form the Jefferson Airplane.
Signed to RCA Records, and following the release of their unsuccessful debut “Jefferson Airplane Takes Off” (1966), vocalist Grace Slick and drummer Spencer Dryden joined the band. It was their follow-up album, “Surrealistic Pillow” (1967), featuring the singles “Somebody to Love” and " White Rabbit” that would be the break the band needed. Both songs were instant classics and remain a part of the soundtrack of the ‘60s generation. The band released five more albums, “After Bathing at Baxter’s” (1967), “Crown of Creation” (1968), “Volunteers” (1969), “Bark” (1971) and “Long John Silver” (1972).
“When you go back and listen to the freshness of that music, when it was new for all of us, it’s hard to recreate that sort excitement or newness.,” recalls Kaukonen. “At the same time, I think I have a deeper appreciation of what we were able to do.”
Kaukonen recalls performing at the decade’s most significant musical and social gatherings.
“Both Jack and myself and a lot of my contemporaries have been so fortunate,” recalls Kaukonen. “A lot of it has to do with being in the right time and the right place with the right people. And to leave footprints on the pages of history like that, it just doesn’t happen to everybody. People say, ‘You were at the big three: Monterey, Woodstock and Altamont’ - we had no idea what was going to happen. Woodstock was an oddity because there were a number of festivals that summer, but there was only one Woodstock. You just couldn’t script that but there it was and there we were.”
“Time marches on, nothing stands still,” adds Kaukonen. “I think there is a lot of truth in that one of the things that I think made the music so important to all of us, not just the creativity that was happening at the time, but the relevance to the social fabric at the time. I just don’t hear that today.”
In an effort to expand their creativity outside the band, Kaukonen and Casady formed Hot Tuna in 1969, which initially included Marty Balin. Featuring Kaukonen’s blues finger picking and Casady’s powerful bass licks, Hot Tuna released their self-titled debut live album in 1970.
“Jack is one of the best bass players in the world, ever! says Kaukonen. “He has the ability to play groove, which he is so good at as well as extremely inventive improvisational and crafted solos. You would think that people would know about him. I guess maybe the reason is that he isn’t a front guy and he has played with other people and so people don’t hear about him as much. It is a shame because he is so good!”
With the disbanding of the Jefferson Airplane in 1972, Kaukonen and Casady concentrated their efforts on Hot Tuna. Initially an acoustic act, they evolved into an electric band as well. Their third and first studio album “Burgers,” yielded the hit “Ja Da (Keep on Truckin').” Kaukonen launched his solo career with the release of his debut album “Quah” (1974). Hot Tuna broke up in 1978 reforming again in the late ‘80s. He has spent the last three decades performing and recording with Hot Tuna as well as his own solo career.
“I’m at a point in my life that I’m not self conscious at all (laughs),” says Kaukonen. “I don’t now if that’s a good or bad thing but that’s how it is. You give what you’ve got to give and if the people like it, great but if not, oh well.”
“I can truthfully say that I never phone my parts in. I’m always there in the moment,” adds Kaukoen. “Sometimes your ability to be able to communicate on that primal level, to me, the music is storytelling. Success is when I’m telling the story and people are getting what I’m saying.”
“Our fans tend to be people of a certain age that have made the journey with us,” says Kaukonen. “I would just like to thank them for being part of our life as we’ve been part of theirs.”
Kaukonen and his wife Vanessa own and operate the Fur Peace Ranch, a 119 acre stretch of land in the hills of southeast Ohio, near Pomeroy, which includes a recording studio. The ranch offers music camps to aspiring musicians, both young and old, as well as live concerts.
“We are starting our 21st season at Fur Peace Ranch,” says Kaukonen. “We’ve got great teachers. We’ve got great shows and we’ve got great food. The teaching thing for me has always been important. You try to believe that you have to make the world a better place. But on a more personal level, in some way to be able to give back the access to the music that was given to me. I’ve been teaching on and off since before Jefferson Airplane. It’s so enjoyable to me because I enjoy the process so much it’s just a gift to be able to do it.”
