Hi! For that ship game ask: Rory/Logan, Rory/Jess, Luke/Lorelai, Rachel/Ross, and Rachel/Joey :)
Rory/Logan - SHIP IT!
What made you ship it? Logan's very first scene! He was cocky, handsome, charming, witty, and a bit of a douche, but that's really my type lmao. I loved how he brought out Rory's snarky side, and I loved their banter and enemies to lovers vibe.
What are your favorite things about the ship? Their growth and that they're a normal couple - I love well-established ships where the couples date for long time and become "boring" and domestic. I love how Rory and Logan change because of the other, how alike and well-matched they are, how they have genuine fun together, and how they support, love, and are such an indelible part of, each other.
Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship? Shipping them is in itself unpopular, but I think the fact that my favorite arc of theirs might be their AYITL arc is unpopular too. I just love their domesticity so much, and that, in spite of the cheating, AYITL only showed how good they were together. Their goodbye scene was soooo good too. The way Logan told Rory she never really needed saving and took a mental picture of her... Ugh, my emotions.
Rachel/Joey - Ship it!
What made you ship it? Their domesticity! Rachel was so warm and patient with Joey, and he was so dependable and mature with her. They were the closest of friends and had natural, warm, subtle and sweet chemistry. They revealed different sides of themselves together. Rachel's growth was especially obvious around Joey and the same could be said for him. I just loved them living together so much, and raising Emma together! Joey was great with Emma.
What are your favorite things about the ship? All of the above!
Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship? Again, the ship in itself is unpopular and I honestly don't know what opinions are considered unpopular among Rachel and Joey shippers.
Rory/Jess - Don't ship it
Why don’t you ship it? They weren't a good couple in seasons 2 and 3, and afterward there was nothing tying them together.
What would have made you like it? Jess initially being less of a cliché and a better and more reliable boyfriend, Dean not being sacrificed for Jess's character, better communication and more growth, them not growing further apart in latter seasons, etc.
Despite not shipping it, do you have anything positive to say about it? They make good siblings. Glad they straightened things out. No, Jess is not still pining after Rory.
Luke/Lorelai - DON'T ship it
Why don’t you ship it? They're legit one of the worst main couples I can think of. The minute they got together, anything that was good about their relationship went up in smoke, no, flames. They were too different yet too stubborn to come to a compromise with each other, argued over everything, hurt each other with their lack of communication and secrecy and lies, and couldn't stay together longer than a week until AYITL. Luke was often an ass to Lorelai too, and they never seemed happy and were just a terrible match - they were even worse in the revival, so what does that tell you?
What would have made you like it? Nothing. I highkey hate the characters, especially Luke and especially together.
Despite not shipping it, do you have anything positive to say about it? They stayed together? Luke loved Rory?
Rachel/Ross - Don't ship it
Why don’t you ship it? Ross was an ass to Rachel for most of their relationship and they could never get their shit together. They argued so much and had way too much drama.
What would have made you like it? If Ross had been a better and more supportive partner, and if they communicated better and had less pointless drama.
Despite not shipping it, do you have anything positive to say about it? I loved them as co-parents and loved the love they held for each other despite everything, as well as their commitment to staying friends. Ross grew up quite a bit too, and so did Rachel, so hopefully they made a good couple in the end...
Thanks for the ask! My right arm is kind of tired from typing lmao.

I know it's a hot take but I can be silent no longer (I have talked about this before), I don't like Luke and Lorelei together.

For the anti-honesty ask: why do you love Luke and Lorelai so much? Both individually and as a couple?
Well, for starters, I just love how quirky Lorelai is, and how she doesn’t take other people into consideration. It’s so refreshing to see a Woman Child who hates on her parents and treats her daughter like her best friend. She’s such a great role model and her habits are so endearing and adorable! And Luke, well, isn’t his grumpiness just adorable? It’s so cute the way he yells at people and picks fights with sixteen-year-old-kids. I love how supportive he is when Lorelai gets engaged. And what about when he and Lorelai get together and he doesn’t trust her and runs away (for her own good, of course). And how much he shared his life with her, including his daughter. Their communication skills are also amazing, don’t forget that!
Anti-honesty hour. Ask me anything and I will respond with blatant lies.

While we’re on the subject of comparing Rory’s love interests to Lorelai, stop comparing Logan Huntzberger to her as well!
Yes, they both grew up extremely privileged. However, Lorelai left this world. She worked hard and built her way up without familial connections. She didn’t rely on Richard and Emily’s wealth except for unselfish reasons (like Rory’s Chilton, their house, etc.) and she was also incredibly grateful in these situations and insisted on paying the money back along with terms and conditions to her parent’s satisfaction.
Logan, on the other hand, has never had to work a day in his life. He has abused his parent’s wealth over and over again and never feels any true remorse (examples: sinking a yacht, not trying hard at Yale, etc.) He chose time and time again to stay under his parent’s control because of the wealth that came with it. He didn’t care if they belittled his girlfriend or forced him to work a job he wasn’t qualified for and didn’t want to do, he just went along with it because he wanted to keep his wealth and status.

I have just recently watched the Gilmore Girls revival and I have some thoughts I'd like to share:
The whole Paul thing made me cringe so badly. How can you regularly forget your boyfriend's existence?! Why would anyone date someone who keeps forgetting their entire existence for almost three years and then just randomly dump them over a text one day?! Why did Lorelai act like Rory's behavior is okay? Even when Rory acknowledged that she's treating him badly, Lorelai would say something like: "Oh no, he's just not right for you, don't worry about it." Like how can she string him along like that for so long with so little remorse?! If this was gender-flipped it would definitely NOT fly.
Why are Luke and Lorelai so afraid to tell each other things? Why are they so bad at communicating? How come they aren't even married? I mean they got engaged back in 2005, had their house renovated, set a date and everyhing. I get that the whole April thing messed it up but that was years ago. Nothing is standing in their way now, so why don't they finally tie the knot when they both want to? Also the way Luke acted at that fertility clinic made me cringe so hard. Luke had always wanted to start a family with Lorelai, so it's totally out of character for him to act that way.
That being said their impromptu wedding was beautiful. The decorations were stunning, they all looked so happy and I loved the fact that they chose the same song that had played at Liz and TJ's wedding! However I wish Jess was Luke's best man instead of Lane. Why wasn't he invited to the wedding at all? I don't mean the impromptu one, I mean the real one. I also kinda wish we got to see a sequence of their official wedding with Emily being proud of her daughter.
I hate how little we got to see some of the characters. Lane was barely there, Sookie only had one cameo, Paris was only in two episodes, same as Jess, despite the fact that the trailer made it seem like he was there much more. Some characters weren't even there at all! Like Madaleine and Louise. Why weren't they at the alumni day at Chilton? What about Dave? What had happened to him? Had he fallen off tjr face of the earth completely? I'd so much rather any of these characters had been given more screen time than watch that awful musical anf scenes of Lorelai and Rory making fun of fat people at the pool.
The jokes about child labor were so bad! Not funny at all, more sad than funny and it just made the girls look bad.
Anyway, I loved how they included Jason 'Digger' Stiles. And the Dean cameo. It was so refreshing to see their ex come back after years but not be pining for them. They both looked so over it which is very realistic. I mean it's been years. Everyone moves on eventually. Honestly, the Dean-Rory run in at Doose's in Fall is probably my favorite Rory and Dean moment.
I'm still not sure what to make of the way Jess looked at Rory through that window at the end of Fall. I think it was supposed to indicate that he still loves her and wants her back but it just seems a little far-fetched. It could also mean that he looks back at their times together fondly, but then he turns away and leaves, which means that moves on because the moment has already passed and the magic is not there anymore. That makes much more sense to me because nothing about their previous encounters is very romantic. Their banter at the gazette is more friendly. Maybe that look doesn't mean that he loves her and wants to marry her and raise her and Logan's baby like most GG fans think. Maybe it's closure.
Also I don't think that's a good way to end a story. First of all, it's a cliffhanger. You shouldn't end your story at a cliffhanger. And second, why did Rory have to be so selfish and randomly drop this huge bomb on her mother's wedding? Couldn't she think of a better time? I mean I get that ASP can end her story any way she wants, but I would end it differently.
Despite all this, I must say, they honored Edward Herrman's memory very well.

Poetic cinema is Lorelai calling Christopher and getting mad at him because “my husband should be there when my father’s in the hospital” and then walking into the hospital to find Luke there with food

A very unpopular opinion that only you and a couple of others might share: At their best and maybe even not at their best, Rory/Logan was SO much more happy, loving, compatible, communicative and even healthy than the much more popular Luke/Lorelai.
ain’t that the truth

Luke & Lorelai after breaking up with one another:
-Lorelai goes to visit Luke’s daughter in the hospital when she gets her appendix out.
-Luke goes to help out when Richard (Lorelai’s father) has a heart attack. Runs errands with the family.
Christopher after one fight with his wife, Lorelai:
-Doesn’t show up until the surgery is over, only comes because Lorelai guilts him into it.
Who’s the better person here?

I think it’s very fascinating how we all view chemistry on screen as well as the relationship the actors, writers, et al. are attempting to portray. I think a lot of it comes from our own experiences. What comes off as a healthy, good relationship to some equates to boring for others. What others see as toxic, others see as passionate.
It definitely makes for interesting discourse.
I’ll use Gilmore Girls as an example.
Obviously, I’m biased because I knew from the pilot I was going to want Luke and Lorelai together. I thought Lauren Graham and Scott Patterson had really good chemistry and I still think they do (or did in the revival). And yet, it’s inevitable that if I’m on a message board where GG is being discussed, there will be those who think the chemistry wasn’t there, or it was there in the earlier seasons when LL were doing their constant dance around each other and that it dissipated once they were written as a couple.
A little warning, I really loathe Christopher with every fiber of my being so if you like him, you might not want to read on.
I can admit that yes, David Sutcliffe and Lauren Graham had more of a playful chemistry, but to me, that didn’t mean Lorelai and Chris worked as a couple. Quite the opposite. I know Lorelai bugs a lot of people. I can’t help but love her, but even for me, she’s 12,000 times more obnoxious when she’s around Chris. I happened to turn on the TV the other day and season seven was on (I usually avoid this season and pretend it never happened) and goodness, how the hell I got through that season is beyond me.
Lorelai reverts back into being a teenager around Chris and it’s so off-putting.
Now around Luke, Lorelai is her best self. Or I suppose the best self that she can possibly be since, yes, Lorelai can be awfully selfish and self-centered, but I think Luke grounds her and she loosens him up.
I always see the comments that Lorelai looks miserable around Luke and never seems happy. Meanwhile, with Chris, she’s flirty, etc. That for me is a two-fold response. One, I don’t think she’s unhappy. I just think she’s more grounded. Two, there’s a long history there with Chris and again, the fact that both of them still act like fucking seventeen year olds around each other so naturally, they come off as more playful.
However, I think Lorelai is also very playful and jokey around Luke. There’s that one scene in 3x04 “One’s Got Class and the Other One Dyes” when she finds Luke’s picture in the school hallway and she mocks him about being Butch Danes. You can see Luke smiling. He enjoys the banter.
But....yeah. I seem to have lost the point of this post. LOL. I guess it was that chemistry + relationships are just inevitably going to differ to all of us.

You disliking Luke and Lorelai gives me life! I watched Gilmore Girls for the first time during the pandemic and hated almost every character but was especially stunned by Luke and Lorelai because for years I'd heard about what an incredible 'best ever' ship they were and it turns out they are terrible in almost every single way. Once they got together, what little chemistry they had seemed to disappear, but the problems run so much deeper than that. Once they went from friends to dating, they literally don't even seem to like each other, they are always deeply annoyed by each other, they have LESS than nothing in common, they constantly lie to each other or at least 'omit the truth', they are completely incompatible, they seemingly can't connect or even have an actual conversation about ANYTHING. And maybe this has to do with the actors supposedly not getting along but the characters just never seemed to click or make each other happy once they got together. As much as I am not a Rosschel fan for all the reasons you named (and love Rachel/Joey, which I will always believe should have been endgame!), Rosschel's below average communication skills seem practically stellar compared to Luke and Lorelai's unwillingness to have any sort of real conversation at all outside of Lorelai blathering about nothing like a flailing, attention-desperate standup comedienne and Luke grumbling about how much he hates every aspect of life. I love Friends despite its problems and despite wishing Ross and Rachel hadn't been a thing past season 2, but even thinking about Gilmore Girls annoys me, lol. I see why people love it, but for me the "ugh" outweighs the good :) Thank you for letting us vent!
I agree with everything, haha! I got so angry and frustrated with those two as well. They don't get any better in A Year in the Life (spoiler alert). They're honestly terrible apart too. Between Luke's anger issues and Lorelai's selfishness they were a match made in hell.
Gilmore Girls is definitely very frustrating. I understand! I sometimes think about rewatching it because I love Logan, Paris, Lane, Emily, Rory, and Rory/Logan - despite these characters' flaws (not Lane's, she's perfect) - but it's so hard to watch the show... So, I understand, though I used to love it! I was a bit less frustrated by Friends too, but a lot more indifferent. I loved the GG universe despite everything. Just thinking about the characters and relationships makes me want to rewatch. They're so familiar and comforting to me though I don't know the show as well as I do other old favorites.
What did you think about the other characters and pairings? Where do you stand on the Logan/Jess/Dean debacle lmao?
You're welcome to vent anytime! Thanks for the ask!!

is there a ship you used to ship but don't ship anymore + what’s your favorite canon moment of bellarke :)
Is there a ship you used to ship but don't ship anymore?
When I first watched Gilmore Girls, I shipped Luke/Lorelai but the more I rewatched the series, the less I liked the pairing, to the point where it’s now one of my NOTPs.
What’s your favorite canon moment of bellarke?
I don’t know if this counts properly, but for me one of the strongest canon Bellarke moments was when Clarke wakes up in her Mind Space (when Josie has taken over her) and she’s looking at the drawings on the wall, and the camera focuses on Lexa and then directly after focuses on Bellamy. For me, that just cemented the fact that Bellamy was now on the same level as Lexa ie someone whom Clarke romantically loved.

Controversial opinion: Popular "opposites attract" couples like Luke/Lorelai and Ross/Rachel are so frustrating for me to watch because I just can't get past the fact that constant bickering, mutual annoyance, an inability to get each other and bond, and having radically different ideas about how to approach every aspect of life is not "chemistry" or a sign you're meant to be, it's a sign that you're really incompatible and in a relationship that's either toxic or destined to end!
Well, yes, I agree!
Thanks for the ask!

I love you for loving Rachel/Joey! Suck a sweet, supportive, fun, entertaining, compatible and lovely ship that the writers ruined to put her back together with a guy she's horribly incompatible with in every way! Rachel and Joey totally understand each other because they're more alike but are also different enough to complement each other, and unlike Ross and Rachel, they truly like, get, and respect each other. Rachel and Joey bring out each other's best while Ross and Rachel always, always bring out each other's worst. Mondler was a great ship but Rachel/Joey touches me even more. And your anon who compared Ross/Rachel to Luke/Lorelai was so on point - both are supposedly iconic ships with opposites who can't even understand each other or get along and who are almost never actually happy together. I feel like you and I are among maybe five people on earth who feel this way so I'm glad I found you!
Hi! I was very fond of Rachel and Joey when I watched the show and they were one of the reasons season 6 was my favorite. They were really sweet together. Rachel was always so tender with Joey, almost motherly haha, and Joey was protective and gentle with Rach too. I loved them living together and being best friends and partners. They were just so comfortable together - like you said, compatible. I love "established relationships". What's more romantic than being able to fully trust and rely on someone, than feeling safe, comfortable, and appreciated in a relationship, than knowing you're not alone, than companionship and someone who makes you laugh? Their relationship was like a warm hug to me.
I liked Rachel and Ross as co-parents, and I liked them the best in the last two seasons, but I didn't care for them romantically. I think Luke and Lorelei were worse than Rachel and Ross though, because they didn't grow at all, whereas Rachel and Ross's dynamic improved. But, yeah, "iconic" means nothing to me.
I'm glad you found me! Thank you for reading my posts!! And for the ask! I'm sure there are more people like us though!
