i can fix them if i actually cared - this would require a real huntlow based episode where they talk things out and willow becomes uncomfortable with how hunter is willing to do anything for her and even gets her things before she asks (like, if she mentions being thirsty, before she even gets up hes already back with a glass of water and an expression akin to a dog awaiting praise.) this compounds over the episode until she freaks out a bit and then sits him down and asks what His Fucking Deal Is and hes forced to confront his people pleaser nature, and resolves to change for the better.

Lumity isn't toxic, but it isn't healthy either...

One of the problems with Lumity is that Luz and Amity started dating, when their friendship was still kinda in its starting phase, and they barely knew each other. (They only know that they both like the same fantasy stories and Amity came from a messed up family.)

Another thing is that I think Luz is secretly kinda afraid of Amity or at least afraid of disappointing her, because Green-Haired Amity gave Luz a hard time over mistakes, even ones that aren't Luz's fault. Luz even cried once in Season 2, cause Amity made Luz feel guilty over Amity losing her library job. Even during the episode where Luz confesses her feelings, Luz is scared Amity is gonna be mean to her again.

That's why Luz kept secrets from Amity, because Luz doesn't want Amity to blame her again and/or break up with her.

Meanwhile with Amity, after Amity dyes her hair purple, her personality changes almost completely. Amity almost never gets angry with Luz now. She also is obsessed with being Luz's awesome girlfriend.

I think Purple-Haired Amity is patient with Luz now, cause when Amity saw Luz cry, she realizes how much she is hurting Luz with her words. Probably like her Mom does with her. Amity doesn't want to act like her Mom anymore.

Which is nice, but Amity doesn't know how to be her own person anymore. She went from being the person that her Mom wants her to be, to being the person she thinks Luz would want. Amity should figure out who she wants to be, before entering a romantic relationship. ^_^;

I don't think I can tell she exactly "can't be herself", but all her embarassing blushings do make it look so, since she can't be relaxes and chill around Amity, she's too worrying and it also leads to the fact that Luz doesn't trust Amity, bc she's afraid to be disappointing, to show her flawsa and to be comfortable, which, Imo, is sad

So their relationship doesn't look like a "goal relationship" to me

Lumity: wasted potential of the show

Lumity isn't as bad as Huntlow. They were planned since the beginning, they had time for development, even if it was a bit rushed. But they still have writing problems that we should address:

1. Amity's character almost dissapeared. During first season she was the most interesting character out of all, despite the fact that her arc was rushed and involved retcone. But after her redemption, she turned into sweet awkward nerdy girl. It's not realistic in any way to become completely different person in a couple of months, and it also made her boring. She's the second of three ex-villians who got the same new characterisation, which is bad by itself, but she also lost her special chemistry with Luz which we saw in Grom episode. This episode was Lumity's peak you can't deny it

2. Amity is just Luz's gf and nothing more. She has nothing to wish except being with Luz and seeing her being happy. No ambitions, no goals, no new friends. Just Luz. She thinks only about her, she talks only about her, she does everything only when it's about Luz. Only exception is Reaching Out, but it was also turned into Luz's thing. As much as I hate Huntlow, Hunter at least had something except love for Willow. It's bad not only because it makes Lumity a copy of awful mlw couple trope, it also doesn't show hurmful tendency (dependence on a partner and being obsessed with them) as something bad.

3. Lumity made Luz look bad. You know, dating your first friend's ex bestie and ex main bully is kinda messed up. It wouldn't be that problematic if Willow and Amity had already become friends again, but it's not what we've got.

4. Mistrust between Luz and Amity. I agree that the reason is that Luz is a bully victim and Amity reacted hurshly several times when Luz did something wrong. But it doesn't change the fact that it shows another hurmful idea that good partner has to forgive every bad thing and in the wrong for being offended. This moment of Amity would be cute if it appeared ones and clearly showed that she has changed and now she's much more patient with Luz. But in canon, Amity just allows Luz to treat herself like shit bu lying to her (and not only her) over and over again. And Luz lying three times (even if lie about Belos is justified) about things that are important for their shared future and for Amity's safety don't paint her in a good light. There's a line between not being too hursh to partner when they did something wrong and being a doormat for a partner because you were wrong in the past.

5. Imbalance in the effort invested in the relationship. As it is clear from my points that I made earlier, Luz is everything to Amity, while Amity for Luz is just a girlfriend. Amity's doing everything for Luz (which is not good), while Luz isn't even prioritize saving Amity over just being with Eda. In season three they barely interact at all. And now it isn't about Luz being the wrong one: it wasn't the right time for cute couple stuff. Actually, if you think about it, Luz's attitude towards Amity is much healthier. It's just too miserable to see Amity being Luz's loyal puppy who buried all her goals and ambitions, while Luz treating Amity like she treats other friends.

In conclusion, I don't say that they had to be like catr*dora or stol*z, no way. Healthy relationship should be portrayed in media, especially for kids. But there's the difference between being called healthy and being actually healthy. Lumity isn't abusive, isn't even toxic, it's just not a relationship goal. In the ideal world, their flaws should've been addressed and resolved in the show, so they can actually become healthy couple.

No. Genocide is never justifiable. Just because these characters aren't good doesn't make them evil and worthy of death. Fans of TOH tend to idealize the characters they're fans of. Amity was scrubbed clean of a myriad of sins just to make Lumity plausible. Luz was scrubbed clean of her many sins so fans could project themselves onto her. These characters have their light and dark sides like normal people and sometimes that dark side comes out. This is part of good characterization and should be embraced in a narrative. Fans of TOH seem to have missed that lesson.

I loved your video on the masculization of Luz Noceda. Gender non-conformity is valid and woc who identify as such deserve representation. What is not okay is that a tomboyish Afro-Latina girl was paired with a feminine white girl which reinforces stereotypes about black women. This wouldn’t be a problem if it wasn’t so common in fiction. Interracial sapphic couples often have the butch be woc and the femme is white. There are exceptions, but they are far rarer. I would have preferred if Lumity was fem4fem, butch4butch, or Luz was fem and Amity was masc.

I feel this is the problem throughout todays disney media,how stale it reflects there previous works, they have put out that effected this, yes looking at toh, it was fine to have a main poc character contribute to diversity, and ok explore her sexuality which i commend the show does however,

It falls flat of not exploring luz's family,Ecthnicity, & show great cultural represenation like other works in disney like seeing the PS sponsors about different cultral backgrounds, cuisines and heritages.

The three shows did it better (molly mcgee, Moon girl & amphibia were better examples of how to do it right) and felt the crew of toh didnt have a clue or proper reseearch on how to execute a story of differences, ecthnicty & culturals. I mean you live in a fantasy world with over 100 species and your telling me, the show only fcous on the humanoid shape priveldege characters (which fans only pay attention to In beauty standard way. However the big egg on the face after rewatcing the show ad reading the wiki, felt some parts being subpar, the way they potrayed luz and shelved aside, in favor for amity! it gotten to the point where along its writing and potrayal of the two was trite & selfisih writing.

I for one were along with critiques & well minded fans or who get it, that luz's Feminine traits were watered down, to favor amity's fem persona knowing fans would gravitate to her, and times the show pused luz aside (like other characters) in fans favor for the little white girl whos picture perfect and drained of what makes her unique even if the show doesnt catch on yall still find a way to defend her, Like the writing and storytelling of the show was Trite & Fradualent.

at times even if luz didnt had a proper sexuality to show her feminine side cause fans like to based people off sexuality instead of writting oraganic stories nowadays. (it wont matter a bit) cause at the end the potrayal of darker people are always degraded & disrespected,

along with the fandoms distaste and judgement of camilla knowing full well shes doing her duty as a mother! (whos also dark skin along gus so Picture how there portrayed.)

the way the fans and series portray luz without showing her girly side is that of a trope thats been done throughout to show agenda whcih is the girl boss movement to blame, so ima try not to be too long,

but it was foul how they made practically all the toh poc characters more obscured or watered down in writting cause everyone favored more of lighter skin characters as the show went on,

so people need to understand the words favoritsim and bias at this point. cause they way they want to be with the in crowd badly and drawing or potraying luz in a butch way can stifle how we see POCs as nothing but masculine or tomboyish has be tiresome just to show a girlboss agenda yet you dont know WHO LUZ IS.

Controversial opinion:

Its kind of hard to like characters like Willow and Amity because their whole personality just basically becomes who they're shipped with. Like they can't have anything interesting about themselves without it involving shipping. You can't look up stuff about them without it having be about huntlow or lumity stuff. Like people are allowed to love ships and be obsessed with them. But its hard for me to personally enjoy a character when their whole personality is just to be in this relationship with this other person. Why King, Belos, Gus, Hunter, Luz, Eda, heck even Darius and Raine are way more intriguing characters to me because they have stuff going on that does not become dependent on romance. To me it ruins the romance more like that. Another reason why I find Amity and (it kills me to say because she started off so cool) Willow not intriguing as characters. Why I hate the ships like Huntlow and Lumity.

I personally don't like Lumity for a few reasons... 1. It kinda makes Luz a terrible friend to Willow, since Luz is befriending Willow's bully (and former friend) behind her back...

2. Luz loses her backbone almost whenever Amity is angry at her, while Luz's rivalry with Hunter felt more equal cause they get angry at each other and Luz isn't afraid to call out Hunter on his crap (unlike with Amity, where Luz doesn't even get angry at her that much for burning Willow's picture memories). Considering how much of a jerk Amity was to Luz before she dyed her hair purple, it's no wonder Luz kept secrets from her and told Hunter instead...

3. Amity's romantic feelings for Luz make no sense. At first, she hated Luz for getting her in trouble in school and for being a human that lacks magical powers. But then Luz gains Amity's respect, when Luz reveals that she can do magic spells in a different way... So yeah, it would make sense for Luz to gain Amity's respect and later maybe friendship. But Amity gaining a crush and slowly becoming obsessed with the human (who's species that she hated) that keeps getting her in trouble is pretty unrealistic. They also had to almost completely change Amity's personality after she made her hair purple, so that Amity can act like 'Luz's 1# Fangirl' while they're dating... They could've at least given Amity a new dream, since she's an ambitious girl and she can't be in the Emperor's Coven anymore! ಠ_ಠ

The only plus of Lumity for the show itself is representation. They don't bring anything else. They pull the blanket of the plot, take away time that could be spent on character development without bringing anything important. They push friendship into the background. They don't teach healthy relationships because they are only called "the healthiest": they have problems, but instead of solving, the show simply ignores them. All the plots played by Lumity can be easily replaced by friendship, and the result would be many times better. And Luz herself as a character is simply not ready for a romantic relationship. She is exactly the main character who doesn’t need them. Any other ship that doesn't include Luz would have worked much better in this show as a representation. Bye

i've come to realize that the reason i dislike raeda hinges on the same reasons why i dislike lumity (and vastly prefer lunter). those reasons being, raine and lilith should've been the same character -- but they're not, just like amity and hunter should've been the same character (emperor's coven!amity my beloved), but they're not
