Friday evening, finally. After a rather stressful week at the office, Finn was looking forward to his favorite past-time activity, which was blasting through the missions of *Duty Force Alpha* with his buddies. He was a bit surprised though when he logged into the voice server to find only one of his teammates there, even though he was the one who was late.

"Hey Beck! Sorry I'm late. Where is everyone?" he asked.

Beck was the newest addition to the team and had only joined a few weeks ago, bringing them up to five guys, or a whole squad.

"Let's see..." the other guy answered.

"Joey has to help a friend to move, so he is out for tonight. Alex has to prepare a presentation for his work on Monday. And I haven't heard from Dave at all."

Finn groaned.

"So, probably girl trouble again." Dave had a history of disappearing without any trace for a couple of days, only to emerge again a few days later and explaining that he was on a date. It never seemed to work out in the long term, though.

"Anyway. What about you?"

"I'm game. Looks it's just the two of us tonight." said Beck, and Finn could vividly imagine the cocky grin of the other guy, even though their cams were off right now. Finn agreed and started up the game but couldn't stop his heart from beating faster. The thing about Beck was that he wasn't just the newest member of their team or a cool guy to hang out with. Beck was *also* rather hot, especially for a gamer, and every time he spoke, his voice alone was enough to send a chill down Finn's spine. In short, Finn had a hard crush on the other man, and the prospect of spending the evening alone with him - even though it was just digital proximity - was both exciting and frightening to him.

Just as Finn logged onto the game server, Beck spoke up again.

"Ah fuck, I've got to go AFK for a few minutes again, sorry."

Finn muted his microphone, but instead of going to the kitchen, he was quickly distracted by a message from the game, announcing a change in skill trees. As he was reading the patch notes, however, after some moments, he heard a strange noise from his headset. It sounded a bit like a quiet slapping sound, and while he was still trying to identify what it was, a faint moan reached his ears.

Oh. *Oh*! Finn froze as his brain connected the dots. Beck hadn't gone AFK in a broader sense. Well, his hands probably were off the keyboard, but...

"No way! You're playing Sarge? What happened to your engi?" Beck's voice was surprised.

He didn't ask further questions about his choice of character and the two of them went on their way, starting the first mission.

At first, Finn tried to play tactically, as he was used to by his engineer, but after half a mission, he reconsidered. Not only was Sarge simply not built for this playstyle, but he figured Beck would be more into another approach. So, he changed strategies completely and just charged into the enemies head-first and with blazing guns. This worked out remarkably well, and soon, Finn was having actual fun behaving like the meathead he was pretending to be. He even threw in a few grunts and battle cries for good measure that seemed to amuse Beck a lot.

"Sounds like someone is having fun with his new class!" he laughed after a particularly successful attack.

"Yeah. I'm just here to shoot and look pretty. No need to think of anything. Leave that to the smart guys. Like you. All I need is my guns."

The bit of boldness probably came from all the adrenalin, but it was getting easier to get into character now. In any case, Beck didn't seem to mind.

"Awesome man! So, what do you do when you're not gaming? Hit the gym much?"

Finn froze and almost got hit by an enemy assault as a consequence. Fuck! This was the first time Beck showed any interest in his personal life. But the honest answer to that would be 'no, never', clearly not what Beck wanted to hear. Against better judgment he had to lie.

"Uh... yeah, sometimes. Gotta stay in shape, y'know?", hoping that Beck would buy it.

"Nice! Hey, why don't you turn on your cam, show me those gains."

Crap. They sometimes played with their webcams on, that's how Finn knew how Beck looked like. However, since he had been sick and didn't want to turn on his own camera last time, Beck had not seen him before. And that was the only reason his bluff earlier could have worked.

"I don't know, I didn't clean my place..." he tried to evade, but it was no use.

"Aww, come on, man."

Beck had already turned on his camera and smiled into the lens, and Finn could see the handsome face he often dreamed of at night. That was, of course, too much for Finn to resist, and he turned on his camera, too, with a beating heart, expecting Beck to call him out on his lie.

But instead, Beck nodded approvingly.

"Yeah, nice. I can see your progress. You're looking pretty fit, man."

Finn just stared at the monitor for a moment. Given, the lighting wasn't all that good, but how on earth would Beck think he was looking *fit*? He inspected his own miniature image on the screen. Okay, yes, the shadows of the badly lit battle station worked in his favor here. With some fantasy, you could probably make out definition that Finn knew very well wasn't there in reality. Perhaps, Beck was just being polite.

"Uh, thanks." he said, before quickly adding "... bro." for the effect.

He felt a rush of excitement. Perhaps he would be really able to pull this off!

With the cams still on, he charged into the next pack of enemies, and watched Beck lean back into his gaming chair, giving Finn a good view of his own somewhat toned chest under his t-shirt.

"So, you got a girlfriend, Finn? Or are you more of a player?"

Fuck, more questions. His first impulse was to lie again, but no! If he wanted to have a shot with the other guy, he *had* to be honest here. He swallowed hard and answered with his eyes still lingering on Beck, trying to read his body language.

"N-no girlfriend. I'm... uh... not really into chicks."

That came out a lot less confident than he hoped. There was no sign of animosity in Beck, and even though thinking was somehow getting harder, rationally, Finn knew it was a good opportunity to ask him the same, exposing Becks own orientation. But he just couldn't bring himself to do it, so he chickened out and tried to change the subject.

"Anyway, did I tell you about this thing that happened at work the other day? I totally saved our asses by-"

He stopped again, suddenly remembering that he's supposed to play dumb.

"Uh, I mean, I dunno, it was pretty boring office stuff. Who cares about that shit, right?"

At least the lingo came a lot more naturally by now, and sometimes, Finn had to remind himself that it was a role he was playing. It was, right?

Beck raised an eyebrow, looking curious.

"Office stuff? Didn't know you worked in an office, Finn. Thought you were more of a hands-on kind of guy."

"Uh... yeah, uh... I actually am. I'm..."

Fuck, thinking was *hard*. He had to come up with something here, but his mind drew a blank until he looked back at the screen.

"... a soldier. Yeah, I'm in the army."

"Wait, you're a soldier? For real?"

Beck sounded impressed but Finn's heart was racing as he realized what he just said. But he couldn't back down now.

"Uh, yeah, that's right," he replied, trying to sound casual. "Been in the army for a couple years now."

Beck looked impressed. "No shit? That's awesome, man! But what were you doing in an office then?"

Wait, but wasn't that part of the lie? Finn's confusion grew and he barely registered Beck's answer:

"Yeah, I hear ya."

Finn scratched his head, trying to clear his mind. Thinking had never been his strong point - or has it? However, he was quickly distracted again by a weird feeling. As he had raised his arm, his shirt felt... tight. Constricting even. Hardly believing what he felt, he looked down at his own body and felt his solid pecs through his t-shirt. No, they weren't just solid. They were *large*. Large enough to stretch the fabric of his clothing and to limit his movements. Suddenly, he was aware of his other muscles, too. "Thanks man. One sec."

Without a second thought he pulled off his headset, followed by his tank top, leaving him bare-chested in front of his PC.

"Better. It's getting hot in here."

Beck chuckled, reaching for the hem of his shirt. "Scared? Please, I'll put your buff ass to shame!"

The two of them continue to play, now with their shirts off, and their banter becomes increasingly flirty. Finn was enjoying the attention, and it was obvious that Beck was enjoying the view as well. However, after two more missions, Beck noticed a sudden drop in his teammate’s performance.

"Dude, what's up? You're playin' like shit all of a sudden." he teased, while his eyes remained glued to the difficult situation.

However, after hearing the grunted answer from Finn, he immediately looked up to the video stream again.

"It's... hard to play with one hand, y'know?"

Beck's mouth fell open as he saw Finn, grinning, with one hand still on the controller and the other tightly wrapped around the massive hard cock he had fished out of his underwear and was stroking slowly, all while maintaining eye contact with Beck.

Thoughts on 41-Taken in Vein

So, after posting it a few days ago, I thought I'd talk about my more recent chapter of CoSL...

And what a pain in the ass it was.

I mean, not really. I enjoyed writing it. The problem was I kept re-writing it.

Dracula and vampires were always a big thing for me, since I was a kid. My dad actually read me Dracula when I was like 7, I was a big fan of The Little Vampire and an old cartoon called the Ketchup Vampires. I even played a vampire at a theater camp production. So I had a lot of nostalgia for this topic.

I also have since read a lot more vampire novels--classics like Carmilla and newer stuff too. (I will say I tried Twilight when it came out at my high school...but I didn't really gel with it, I say politely). I'm a horror movie nerd so there's that too. So though the election, holidays, etc took a lot out of me, I was trying my best to get it out there.

I just had too many ideas.

I conceived this plot a long time ago, probably two years now, as a quick idea blurb in my idea's file. Originally, the main couple was going to be two girls--Lisa and Meena, who were both medical professionals. The story was still about a stalker but it would be Meena's former fiancee as she came from and Indian family that tried to arrange a marriage that she walked out on for Lisa. Like before, they'd both be a kind of blood drinking vampiric wesen--Lisa being a more straightforward bat-like vampire and Meena a Raksha, a blood drinking Indian creature.

But I realized I wanted a male gay couple. Mim and Jean play a big part, I've made allusions to Sloane's past girlfriend (who will be making an appearance one day soon...i hope), Gallan and her crush on Zima, and Dierdre and Victoria were a thing once. By contrast, I didn't have a lot of M/M couples. Kind of a surprise given my fanfiction start was chiefly Yaoi back on FF. Net...

Anyway, just making them guys wasn't doing it for me. So I played around and I made Misha and...Lucas. Yeah, Vaughn's name was originally Lucas, still to play on "MIna and Lucy". John or Joanna was going to be the ex turned stalker. But it still wasn't working.

Around this time, Microsoft Word pissed me off. I'd used it for years, figuring I was at least using it enough to make the price valid. Then they put AI in it. Not as an option, as an "included feature". Seeing "copilot" and it's tab annoyed me enough, but it also started asking EVERY NEW PARAGRAPH if i wanted to have Copilot work on it. I honestly did feel insulted. Then to add injury to my insult, I get a notice a week before my subscription (don't even get me started, I don't know why I put up with it all these years aside from fear of change) renewed they were going to HIKE MY SUB PRICE UP BECAUSE "OH, WE HAVE AI NOW SO IT'S WORTH MORE." For a feature I did not want and did not ask for and would rather never write again than use. Fuck you Microsoft. Even better, since my sub was through Best Buy (fuck them too) I tried to cancel online and it wouldn't let me log in. This felt planned. Unlucky for them, I'm angry enough to go 45 minutes to the nearest bestbuy and cancel it in person 2 days before the renewal. I was apparently refunded 22 cents. I've switched over to LIbre office and despite a learning curve and a bit of frustration with having a lot of perfectly normal words it doesn't know apparently, it's good.

So, I went back to writing. I brought in some Carmilla inspirations. Berta originally was going to be a bitchy, unprofessional nurse that had a crush on Lucas and was causing trouble for Misha, as a red herring who ends up dead. I liked that, especially her death scene, but it wasn't working for me.I kept playing around with who the stalker wanted, Misha or Lucas, and who the suspect was going to be. I started really messing up my timeline and events...So I started using Millinote to try and keep track of things. I was really starting to feel like this pic of Charlie Day

Finally, I think draft...6? Not full chapters mind you, usually about halfway on all of them before I started over or cut and pasted stuff around because something wasn't working or i got a new idea. Probably most of them are at least 25K...Finally, I made Roberta a vampire obsessed weird news girl because her last name, Swale, was the character in Dracula who tried to warn people something was wrong when the ship, The Demeter, docked with the crew gone. And ended up dead because of it. That actually started making a lot of other things fall into place--Misha's friends being killed, his past, why he's so paranoid, etc. I renamed Lucas "Vaughn" because it felt more contemporary while also having a very vampiric feel to it, and used Lussier for Misha's colleague's last name because it was like "Lucy".

I really liked the end result. I do wish I got to keep a bit of the drama at the hospital, but considering i was OVER A03's WORD LIMIT when i first tried to publish, I had to trim even more. Mostly I tried to streamline areas. I cut Sloane and Dierdre talking and moved it to the next chapter (:3) and I cut a few smaller parts...Including one part of Nick showing why people might find vampire romance novels enticing.

I've cut or put off other scenes before...I'm considering doing a "missing moments" doc with them and bits we didn't see but I inferred. If there's anything that's got you curious let me know. I could even make it...spicy. (I haven't done NSFW in so long though, omg...)

(I headcanon huntress as the one to tell him while ghostface just nods his head in agreement every time trapper tries to justify it away. Claudette - Your typical outdoorsy and academic lesbian, educated and always busy in her studies. She’s overall very femme, and will definitely wear dresses every now and then. However, she does prefer to wear pants and shorts, just in case she finds herself in the garden for any reason. She hates staining clothes, especially her prettier pieces. Grass stains never come out. (I also headcanon that she’s older but shorter than Meg <3)

Meg - Shes’s definitely a sporty masc lesbian, commonly wearing sports bras and track shorts. Though, Meg’s not opposed to feminine styles, especially if Claudette asks for her to match or try something on. The only thing she’s ‘picky’ about are built-in shorts for skirts and shorter dresses. It allowed for more flexibility. Meg also keeps her hair braided and pulled back for sports, creating a seemingly short hair length. Yet, she takes her braids out in her downtime, revealing her longer than expected hair. (She absolutely does playfully pick on Claudette for being older but shorter)

Susie - First of all: I couldn’t be happier that she’s canonically a lesbian- :,) Susie is the type to unfortunately always fall in love with just the tiniest bit of “affection” given. One simple compliment and this girl is head over heels. She’s always in and out of relationships, just trying to fill the painful void of not having Julie as her own. Susie is poorly desperate for love and a genuine relationship, leaving her constantly seeking romantic validation from anyone.

Julie - I say this affectionately, but Julie is a bitch- JAHAHS :,,) Anywayyy <3 She’s a bisexual, poly/open queen who cruelly ignores Susie, and instead has both Frank and Joey at her sides. She definitely power trips a lot, even if she isn’t currently holding the power in the relationship.

Frank - Frank is definitely bisexual and poly/open as well. Despite what some might believe by appearance and attitude alone, Frank is very unbothered by his sexuality. He’s actually proud to be in a relationship with another man involved, it’s not something to be ashamed of.

Joey - A pansexual poly king who perfectly fits in between Frank and Julie. He never thought a polyamorous relationship would be for him, but Joey was pleasantly surprised after trying it out and enjoying it.

Yun-Jin - Deeeefinitely a repressed bi girl- She would look over another girl, have a gay panic moment, and just play it off as admiration rather than love. Can’t a girl just like another girl’s style…? I could 100% see her getting sloppy drunk and making out with another girl, only to deny the true feelings behind the act in the morning

Vittorio - This man is seriously, undeniably gay- I fucking love his style and piercings though, he’s a fashionable gay, and I really respect that so much <3 You just know him and Tarhos have done some CRAAAZY stuff together—

Wraith - Philip has that gay man vibe to him…and this answer is kinda inspired by a certain cool artist who loves Wraith x Hillbilly… They have tainted my thoughts, I genuinely love that ship now- :,)

hello i love ofmd but im not in the fandom (i log onto tumblr every few weeks and see some fanart but that’s the extent of it!). my partner and i loved izzy and were sad when he died but thought it made sense. i am so curious: what is the discourse about??

oh boy. i am probably not the best person to explain this, but i will try to do so very, very briefly.

since season 1, Izzy has been a controversial character in the fandom and the central point of a massive amount of discourse. others (who have actually been involved, which i wasn't) have written much better posts about this.

in any case, this resulted in a bunch of Izzy fans sort of isolating themselves from the rest of the fandom, and somehow coming to believe that Izzy was the true protagonist of the show, plus some mind-boggling headcanons, ignoring what actually happens in the show and throwing away any reasonable character analysis (again, won't go into details here). very delusional. hearing these people talk about ofmd, it felt like they were watching a completely different show than everyone else.

so when Izzy died, these people did not take it well (<- understatement). some of them spewed vile shit at the showrunner, David Jenkins, and around social media, generally throwing a tantrum. the discourse took off when allegations started coming out of it being "bury your gays" and queerbaiting (and worse) to have Izzy die, which are bizarre claims in a show with a majority of queer characters (and when every other marginalizing attribute Izzy had was shared by at least one other character, who didn't die). i keep my dash pretty curated but have seen some truly rancid takes. i suspect that it's just a small number of people being extremely loud, and algorithms promoting controversy, but it set a negative tone right after the finale. my impression is that it's largely died down by now, and there are still far more people loving the show.

just like for you and your partner, it is possible and extremely valid to be sad that a favorite character died (and yes, his death does make sense for the narrative!). but it can never justify the amount of vitriol and hate that has been thrown at real people. i'd say the discourse about Izzy's death is not due to anything the show itself did, but because it didn't magically become the made-up version that a group of people had convinced each other it was through more than a year of staying in an echo chamber.

Strawberry: you know I didn't have much of an opinion of her at first, but over time she grew on me. She's definitely not as brave as Brave or as smart as Wizard but she's got heart. I've noticed she's always first to ask if someone's okay. Also she's a fucking Gamer Girl in a hoodie. She mentioned DLC in one of the dialogues. She's a geek. I don't think she's shy, more unconfident. Loves her tho

Custard: okay yeah the cinnamon roll is kinda cute, not gunna lie. And his determination makes me like him over his ego. Also I imagine he's defo youngest of the group, so cut the baby some slack.

Chili Pepper: eeeeeehhh my least favorite. She's aight, her thieving antics are starting to grow on me but it's a bit annoying. I do like making her the begrudging baby sitter of the group though. Hehehehe

Anywho that's them. Now onto my art attempts so far

First attempts were just throwing mud at the wall and drawing. Nothing really here but vibes

Second attempts were more so trying to copy faces and really get the proportions in mind.

Then it's it's figuring out how these fucks are built unlike we were told they are flat as fuck but that's hard to visualize and draw. So I made their heads round

Then I just drew the gang, the babiest.

Hello everyone, it's been a while, hasn't it? To think this account is still kicking around is quite surprising! Anyways, I am sorry for leaving everyone wondering what happened to this account, as of late we are still trying to renovate every other account we have concerning this project. Also, if you haven't noticed, the user handle is still the one that we used almost two years ago, yeah... I really gotta see how I can change that. Anyways, I come to bring special news that the Repainted Jevil fight has been completed mostly. What purpose does it serve to progression? Not much really; however, expect us to implement it to ACT II as a special secret between you and I.

As for other things, I guess I’ll teach you how to draw a DMitri of your own!

Yes! Now you can create the gay fortnite degenerate himself for free! So anyways, I guess this is where we start that process!

1). First, we start with the head! It has to be a circle. DMitri is a discord logo after all, he has no jaw, no eyebrows or any of that unnecessary junk!

 2). Create two semi-circled eyes and blacken the sclera. Then draw the smile, I personally like to draw it from the left side of the circle, but you can do whatever you want.

 3). Draw from the near the top of the circle two little horns curving inward. Like I said, most of the detail stems around the circle. 

For the hat, I personally draw a sharp-curved line going towards the top of the head and then connect it with another line connecting to his manible. After you are done making the shape of the hat, add the bells, or status circles to each end.

4). Then underneath the head, make a nice tooth-patterned neck ruffle. I personally like doing mine in the shape of curtain curves, but you can do anything you want for the cowl. 

Now, we are getting to the fun part.

5). The body. This is weird because originally I gave DMitri the body type of Jevil, but then I opted to make it more “petite and twinkish.”

Due to difficulty explaining stuff, the best way I can describe drawing this part of DMitri is that his outfit tightly fits around his torso and waist while his sleeves are very baggy. Hands are also difficult to explain because I recently implemented detailed hands; however, you can draw them as circle nubs.

6). Remove the circle linemarks, clean the linework, color and presto~! You made your own little DMitri!

You can do anything with it, or ping everyone with it (except leaving it in a jar!)

Robin of Sherwood 1.5: Alan a Dale

This episode opens with Little John going to see his girlfriend in the village (I think her name is Meg?). "Why do they call you *little* John?" she asks, in an innuendo I totally missed the first time. She also starts asking if Robin’s handsome, in what's probably on the Top 10 Things You Don't Want Your Partner To Ask.

The Sheriff is *so annoyed* that Gisbourne is overly-eager to hang people.

I now now more about medieval taxes than I did the first time and Tuck talking about tallage and scutage brings me life.

Other things I am living for: the outlaws playing Log Bridge Fight and knocking each other into the stream. This episode has a real ShenanigansTM vibe so far and I'm very here for it!

Anyway, the titular man is here:

On his way to kill the Sheriff for trying to marry his true love Mildred. He delivers every line in extremely dramatic tones and the outlaws visibly find him hilarious.

(Also everyone immediately goes, 'But the Sheriff can't get married, he's gay hates women!')

Next up: the Sheriff, having a bath and yelling at Guy about various things, including his upcoming nuptials. Upon getting out, he gets Guy to towel him dry (harder!), which I will just leave here for you to ponder.

Aand we are ambushing people! We are having horseback chases! We are shooting the guards! Or in Marion's case, trying to shoot the guards but Alan gets in the way (he's really very unhelpful). And then Robin and Gisbourne brawl in the mud while Matilda watches, presumably wondering what's up with these two idiots.

You may not be able to tell, but there are two people in this photos.

"Gisbourne, stop playing around in the mud and come up here. You look like a decaying dungheap." - the Sheriff, appearing in time to level some more choices insults at Guy.

Back at the outlaw’s camp, we are re-introduced to Alan by him groaning 'my life is over!' offscreen. Truly the Most Dramatic.

Not having a good time is Mildred, in the castle waiting for her wedding on the morrow. But it's OK, because the Merry Men have a plan to rescue her! It involves a bit of kidnapping, some impersonation of a priest, and lots of dress-up.

(Side note: they mention having robbed the Abbot on his way to Walsingham and I wish I'd seen that)

In preparation for the wedding, Gisbourne is instructing the guards on how to properly cheer, which involves him briefly becoming that guy at a children's party.

"I can't hear you..."

The 'priests' and 'nuns' arrive, and Alan gives the most dramatic account of an upset stomach anyone's ever heard. I am unreasonably fond of Marion's country accent.

Poor Alan is so terrible at doing a fake wedding and I feel so bad for him. He's obviously nervous as hell.

*waves hands at everything* wedding shenanigans!! Culminating in BEE ATTACK!

Since Tuck is performing a Catholic wedding, I assume that he isn't Herne-ian. Unless he considers himself both?

We end with the Sheriff and Gisbourne in the bath together, dealing with their bee stings. So. Whatever you make of that.

OK no we actually end with Alan and Mildred getting their happy ending.

Anyway this was the funniest episode so far thoroughly recommend it!

an acronym for "Haikyuu!! Cross Team Match" for the 3DS. oh, how i love to start projects that i inevitably drop. but for now, i make a log because this is really hard. i'm having flashbacks to when i tried to fix the FE12 patch for NoA localizations... only for the solution to be "make a serenes forest account"

so here's rom hacking. from someone who doesn't code. this can only go well.

Step 1: extract files from game

easy. i already have a 3DS with custom firmware because why wouldn't you have one at this point, nintendo loves to kill everything they ever once loved

extra easy. i actually have a cartridge. back in the day of Fire Emblem Gay Fates, i used OOT3DS to use a launch method called HANS. it also let you bypass region lock. and then i never touched the game again because i was a plebian in japanese. now i am an elementary schooler.

First, search "3ds game hacking basic." thank you, reddit post. i recognize the "romfs" folder from the Gay Fates days.

Second, get confused as to whether I have GodMode9 or not. (Did not.)

Third, using the "Universal Updater" app on my 3DS, download "GodMode9" so I can actually do the steps listed on reddit.

Fourth, to actually access GodMode9, hold SELECT while booting 3DS and then you can follow the tutorial.

(You're gonna press B a lot to back back in the directory. To actually copy the romfs folder, make sure to scroll up to the "SDCARD" folder because the beginning is the /root folder.)

Step 2: wtf are ".arc" files

After discovering that NARC =/= .arc files, I went down a long rabbit hole.

".arc" files are archived files, and every company has a different way of compressing these files. Oh no.

The default decompression pattern built into most of these tools is for Nintendo (NARC file), because duh you're on the 3DS

There is one extractor tool for some Capcom games like Monster Hunter and Resident Evil called ARCTool.

none of those worked :')

An important note is I tried using "Tinke," an old tool because it's for DS roms instead. I used it once for Princess Debut.

(Side note, I should really finish extracting all of those and upload them to Spriter's Resource.)

It took a long time tbh but this GBAtemp forum post helped to get to the next step.

As written in the forum post, grab the files to deal with the "ustarc" and "ustcomp" files. Search and get the "QuickBMS" thing also mentioned in the post.

Open a file using Notepad/++ to see which prefix is in the file. Using that same file in QuickBMS, choose the correct script that matched the prefix. Using it on romfs/main/tutorial/tutorial_upper.arc gives me... "tutorial_upper.arc." Huh.

Going back to Tinke, it told me that the file was originally a "ustc" file... like in "ustcomp." After using QuickBMS, Tinke now tells me it is a SARC file. That is suspiciously close to a NARC file.

Step 3: i hope SARC files exist

They do exist normally! Progress!!

The first search result of "SARC Tool" did not work for me. The second result of "SARC Extractor" did work, however. And it has a release on the right column! A boon for me, who doesn't code--hold on i'm gonna have to repack all these files after editing them.

...I hope SARC Tool works later, but anyways

Using SARC Extractor on the new tutorial_upper.arc gives me tutorial_upper/arc/blyt and tutorial_upper/arc/timg.

In the blyt folder, there are only two files called tu_a01_upper.bflyt and tu_title_upper.bflyt.

In the timg folder, there are 11 files all with the ending of .bflim.

Step 4: .bflyt and .bflim

A search of ".bflyt file" gives me this "(Switch) Layout Editor." It does work, but I also probably shouldn't mess around with this file if it's about a layout. That's not the goal here.

A search of ".bflim file" gives me "BFLIM Tool," but it doesn't work for me... (holds head in hands)

I do find "3dstools" and "3DSkit" but those require me to have Python. Which I don't. Because I don't code.

Out of desperation, I put all of these into something that didn't work with the compressed .arc files from before, called "Every File Explorer."

...Huh, it actually works! And the graphics are exactly what I thought they'd be!!

...But the buttons in each individual window are greyed out, which would've been really useful. By hovering over them, I can see that they are Save, Import, and Export. Damn.

Not to mention how all of them are in the wrong orientation and/or mirrored...

Well, it's time to try out 3DSkit, because it lists exactly what version of Python I need. There's just one thing.

Step 5: What is even in the romfs folder?

Yeah, maybe I should take inventory first. 3DSkit actually does a lot of files, so I should see what I can do with it. The main romfs folder actually has two folders: "main" and "test."

In the "main" folder, there are a whole bunch of folders which are self-explanatory, like "save_slot" and "mini_game." This is also where I got the tutorial_upper.arc file.

Most of the folders contain that compressed .arc file type. With the exception of...

common = .dat .arc .bffnt .incs

effects = .ptcl

mini_game = .arc .dat .bffnt

shader = .shbin .bch

sound = .arc .bcsar ...and has a folder named "stream" containing only .bcsar

vbl = .arc .bch

Now, I'm scared of the "test" folder because of one folder. The two folders in here are "fhq" and "script." The folder itself also has files in it, ending in arc, bch, ptcl, and incs.

The "fhq" folder just has another folder called "item", and going to that has three files that can probably be edited in Excel. Actually.

EnemyStateList.csv, ItemDataList.csv, and ItemDataTable.csv. When going through FE11/12 stuff, I saw something like this table, so it's not that unbelievable.

(Might need to restore that folder I deleted to doublecheck though. I'm not sure if they edited it, or if they romanized all the hira/katakana.)

Bonus: A GBATemp forum post was also suffering in BFLIM files, and they had tried a program called Kuriimu. I tried using it for compressed .arc files earlier, but got nothing. So I tried it out.

First, the Github release actually has three tools: Kuriimu, Kukkii, and Karameru. Kukkii is the one that deals with BFLIM files and it works omg

Second, Karameru can actually read the tutorial_upper.arc file that was made after using QuickBMS.

Third, I'm actually two versions behind for the Kuriimu trio, so I should go and update mine oops

I was posting about Randy’s podcast yesterday, but I didn’t start the ripple through the fandom. And I haven’t yet listened to any other episodes beyond the Poly Pocket episode (I will though!). I have so many thoughts, so buckle in.

First off, Randy’s voice is… idk it’s a little different from Justin’s. Which makes sense because he’s 20+ years older. But his voice sounds so so much like my friend’s voice. My friend who happens to be in an open marriage (like with hookups and boyfriends). So it was wild to hear him talk about things both pop culture and queer culture and relationships with many of the same opinion’s my friend has (also, just realized my friend’s initials are JT). I would love to get coffee with Randy and talk to him about drag race, I hope when I listen to other episodes I get to hear more of his hot takes on it.

Anyway, I adore Randy and Jordan’s opinions about monogamy and non-monogamy. As @phil-lester-is-my-sunshine has said Randy is so Brian Kinney-coded. His rejection of compulsory heteronormativity and all the trappings that go along with it (putting a romantic relationship above and beyond all other relationships, the need to get married, etc) and the idea that one should sacrifice oneself for a romantic relationship, I absolutely agree with. I thought it was interesting how both of them discussed how not having sex education (in the US) discuss sex beyond procreation in the context of hetero relationships and that created space for them as queer men to have a more analytical and nuanced approach to sex and relationships, I think is very true. Speaking as someone in a queer relationship (and previously in relationships that as a cisgender femme presenting woman were perceived as straight) I can speak to how much more freedom I have felt with my current partner/spouse to create a relationship that works for us compared with previous partners/spouse.

That said, I felt the conversation, while acknowledging differences for women (the pressure society places on us to be married and have children), didn’t fully take into account the experiences of *queer* women, where the expectations that are placed on women in relationships with men are sometimes the same and sometimes different but ultimately involve people who have consciously rejected heteronormativity. And, look, I’m glad that Randy and Jordan did not presume to speak for queer women (hi, Trixie and Katya, I adore you but your takes on lesbians during the I Like to Watch: Ultimatum Queer Love were not it).

I have found that lesbians/queer women/queer nonbinary afab folks are more open to non-monogamy than straight women (and I’m not talking about bisexual women in relationships with men, they are not straight). But it often doesn’t look like Brian and Justin going out and sleeping with a different trick every night. When Randy and Jordan spoke about the importance of platonic relationships (and YES THIS because our ace/aro siblings are a part of our community), I see often that queer women (as a shorthand for the identities listed above) have far closer and more intimate relationships with each other than straight women. There’s also less jealousy about being friends with exes, in my experience (and there’s some research to back this up). I don’t see as much (as much, so not zero) open relationships around sex as perhaps among gay men. Maybe that has to do with women being subjected to hormonal shifts through the “month” (loosely defined, for menstruating women) that impact our interest in sex and several days during the month (for menstruating women) when,frankly, I don’t want anyone touching my body because I’m in pain. Maybe that’s because sex with partners who each have a vulva is like… well one person I know described it as being on single-camera shoot and sex when (at least) one partner has a penis is more like a multi-camera shoot. That’s a very Hollywood analogy but there ya go. I don’t know. I do know that my spouse and I are sexually exclusive but that has far more to do with laziness and tiredness and chronic illnesses than a stance on sexual exclusivity. I also know that we more freely talk about people whom we find attractive than I see happening with my straight partnered friends. I don’t have any ex-girlfriends but my spouse does and I’m friends with many of them. I know that our concerns about being physically close with friends (sharing kisses, cuddles, etc) are nonexistent compared with the straight friends I have. I do know that when we have spoken about the future with our close friends, we talk about moving into a compound together and living as a large family. I also know that lesbians are known for falling fast and falling hard emotionally (aforementioned Ultimatum Queer Love - c’mon lesbians are MADE for reality tv dating shows, who else is falling in love in 3 weeks?) and that doesn’t always include sex. So the emotional intimacy of friendships has a large overlap with the emotional intimacy of our romantic relationships.

I hope that all makes sense.

I love Randy’s triad (they’re raising a kid together!) for him. I love Jordan’s open romantic relationship for him. I love their discussion about relationships. I just wish there had been even a teensy tiny acknowledgment that queer women may have experiences and thoughts about relationships that align with neither queer men nor straight women. That’s all.

Fun fact: there was a brief (very brief, trauma-induced) period where my spouse and I seriously considered having a child. Our friend (JT) was the only person we wanted as the sperm donor. And, when we discussed it with him, we talked about him moving in with us and all three of us raising the kid together. We would not have all three had a sexual relationship, of course, but we would have been a triad emotionally. Obviously, that did not come to fruition. But had I had a kid, I would have wanted no fewer than three parents. Per child. And this is, perhaps, why it was wonderful that I chose to not have kids.
