"how was work?" he asks, placing the soon-to-be-cookie on the large plater. it was repetitive, but he now understood why you enjoy cooking so much. it's distracting, and it leads you to relax.

"'t was alright." you respond, chopping a chocolate bar. "nothing new, if i'm being honest. what about you, babe?"

he takes a few seconds to respond -- satoru usually avoided talking about work near you. he didn't want the outside world to creep its way into his home, let alone into his lover's mind. it was a complicated situation.

"well, besides being at war." he chuckles in between words, as if he's telling the joke of the century. "not much."

his words linger in the air as the atmosphere grows thicker. and you know you shouldn't ask -- couldn't bring yourself to do it -- so you attempt to remain silent.

but when you look at him, soft blue eyes hiding behind a pair of sunglasses, with a permanent smirk playing on his rosy lips, you wonder:

"how are you not worried?" you finish chopping the chocolate, setting it aside "like, how are you not scared all of the time?"

he smiles before answering you, and for a moment he looks so human you almost forget who he is.

you find his choice of words funny: saying colleagues instead of students, as if you wouldn't know the difference. but you do -- there's nothing that would hurt him more than to lose one of his students (again). well, except maybe-

"i'm on my guard for the rest of the world, but with you..." he turns the stove on, ready to put the plater inside of it. "it's different. it's like i don't have to worry, like the death and the chaos doesn't reach us" he says, motioning towards the both of you

you smile, taking the moment in -- it wasn't everyday that satoru would express his feelings in such a manner.

"besides, you're too weak to kill me anyway" he teases, tongue between his teeth.
