LANCE IS THE BEST BECSUSE HIM AND EUGENE ARE JUST. THE DADS
Lance sees a mildly upset child and decides he needs to talk to them about it, because he won’t let more kids become like him and Eugene. He notices the way Varian seeks out praise and gives him praise, but encourages him to be proud of himself too. He noticed how Catalina and Angry hoard little things that they steal and offers them safe spaces to have those little things. He noticed how Hugo doesn’t do well with rich people and removing the mask he’s created for himself and invites him on scavenger hunts so he can have some semblance of his old life of scheming. He notices how Nuru tends to take on more than she can handle, as well as trying to “parent” adults and reminds her that Varian and Hugo can take care of themselves, but offers her books about princesses so she can steal read about people like her. He notices Yong struggling to get along with people because he’s loud and bad at social cues and makes it a point to spend time with him, and Lance is never gonna turn down an opportunity to create a good explosion.
He’s just got the BEST dynamics, and I feel like after being one of the older kids at the orphanage, he’s good with kids. He remembers what it’s like to be a kid, and he doesn’t want them to have the experienced he did.
GODDDDDDD YES LITERALLY!!!! YOU GET IT!!!!!! IM SO INSANE IM GOING TO. GRRRAGGHGHHGGHHHH. i think lance was truly the first person hugo warmed up to when she moved to corona. like she’s very similar to both him and eugene but i think she and eugene are just Too similar at first and their egos clash a lot. but lance is chill. he’s not as adrenaline seeking and doesn’t have the same egotistical tendencies eugene does. he’s literally just. a dad. and hugo ends up benefiting from that a lot!!!
especially bc i think the idea of having to get to know everyone because of his new connection with varian stressed hugo out a LOT, he’s never been used to having this many connections or associations with people by default and suddenly he feels like he needs to be a part of this family when he’s Not because it’s Not His. they isolated for a while bc of it but lance never even mentioned it. when hugo came out of their slump and truly wanted to make an effort to bond with everyone, lance didn’t say anything. he just welcomed them and let them hang out at their own pace.
hugo messes with the girls like they’re his own sisters and he loves inventing all the stupid stuff for them that varian thinks he’s too good for. he has breakfast with them on weekends and he definitely calls lance dad by accident at least once and he actually is so embarrassed he wants to crawl into a hole and die
GODDD AND YONG AND LANCE………they cook together and yong teaches him all the recipes his mom taught him. yong’s been seen as too much or too annoying by so many people and he’s so happy to just meet a grown up who’s basically JUST LIKE HIM and is PROUD and THRIVING. yong admires lance so much he wants to be just like him and it’s the sweetest thing. and him and the girls are literally best friends. like they are The Trio Ever to me.
and LIKE YOU SAID EXACTLY nuru loves the opportunity to just let loose and have fun and be a dumb teenage girl for a change. yeah team radical is great but like have you ever considered yong nuru kiera and catalina? they’re literally the worst and lance encourages them and its fucking gold

Look. I am not mad at the Bad Kids specifically for killing the Rat Grinders. Because those are fictional first of all and it's gonna happen. I saw someone say that any one of us would be making the exact same choice, and I agree with that. I do however also think it's dumb to act like the RGs are uniquely evil, when in the same vein I'm pretty sure 90% of people when presented with "come back in service of this god or die permanently with no chance at the afterlife" would be in the same position as the RGs as well.
The things we can blame them for are the things they did BEFORE they were rage starred: literally nothing. They did nothing, to the point where none of the BKs knew they existed. Acting like they deserve to die for the things that came after when they had the influence of a God, a wannabe god, and their trusted teacher/vice principal pushing them to do it IS victim blaming. That is an insane degree of grooming and not one of you would do any better resisting it than they did. They're victims of their circumstances. The BKs actually being in the scene don't really have time for empathy, the audience absolutely does. And it grosses me out to see a bunch of grown adults on tumblr celebrating the gruesome deaths and violent lowkey-misogynistic threats levelled at some of these highschoolers.
It is also just narratively unsatisfying that the anti-pointless violence season about how you have to be mindful and temper your rage with doubt is ending by just Doing Violence Harder, but that is equally a restriction of the medium. It's somewhat missing the themes for the Bad Kids to have been going "wow it's so weird that everyone's so mad at us" all season and be presented with a reason (rage stars/dust) that means they need to employ doubt to work out what parts of their rage are really the fault of the actor, but then completely ignore that part and deliver way worse threats (and actualisations) of murder and desecration than any of the rage-dusted people ever did and without the excuse of Ankarna's influence. It does seem like if this were a premeditated plot rather than improv it should have gone differently.

Altalune
I'm submitting my mousie to the @kirbyoctournament !!
Altalune serves as the guardian of the Eternal Planet Halfmoon. Living there for almost their entire life since they were a very young child, they hold the planet and its residents dear to them. But one day an incident occurred that nearly killed them and resulted in them splitting a being named Altair, as well as losing their eye and part of their horn. Altalune quickly grew super attached to Altair, seeing them as their child and wanting to protect them as much as possible.
Reference sheet:

Part 1 Part 2 Part 3
The five days Tyler's stolen my voice from me, I spend watching. The commons, group therapy. I visit my cave with my eyes open. Mills should get used to the cold. I've heard if it drops below 50 while your respiration is this depressed, you go to sleep and never wake up.
Valley of the Dogs.
An orderly with fresh bruises peppering his temple lets me take my walk in the same time Mills is carted around. This is how I must've looked for months. Glazed. Drooling. At this point they probably have to use elephant tranquilizers on me, the tolerance I've built.
God, his petty ass, we meet up for one on one and he says he has to give me some bad news.
No, it's not about Mills.
Tyler, whatever.
He is giving me the bad news, of the passing of one Marla Singer. Everyone seems to think this is bad news. Found dead in her apartment because she didn't pick up any Meals on Wheels for her neighbors for three weeks, and they worried about those little old ladies, up there all starving alone since their angel in black stopped showing up.
Her corpse was found, instead. I imagine it all waxy, tits rotted off just like she said, at some point you're so sick even the bacteria in your gut won't bother decomposing you. I imagine Marla's skin pulling back, fleeing, away from her eyes, her teeth, like a mummy. Dried out as all her collagen rots.
Paper clutched in her hand. A will, sort of hasty and half-assed.
Marla's many worldly possessions all fit on a hotel notepad.
Many other worthless things go to a small number of worthless people Marla has mentioned leaving behind in her life, and god says, Marla Singer has left me something.
That's the entire reason I get to know all of this.
If not, I would've never known.
The world could blow up, and you'd never know in here unless it was in someone's will to tell you.
Marla Singer left me her dildo.
Oh, Marla.
Addressed me in the will half the time as Tyler.
I wonder, did the cancer spread from her tits to her brain, like the cancer I didn't have. It's everywhere now. God says they're working out treatment. I wonder if it matters.
Without Tyler between us, I don't really know what connected me and Marla.
What kept her calling.
I liked her. Another psycho boyfriend in her stories. There will never be another, unless she's gone to Heaven, the real one, and they've got some sort of exchange program going on for her to have fun with.
I think Marla might deserve that. She deserved better than this.
I wonder if it was pills. There was no Tyler to save her, this time. No one to listen to her death rattle. I don't have the voice to ask.
I won't be getting her dildo, because you don't get possessions in a psych ward. It'll get dumped in some other landfill to persist for time immemorial with all the other plastic iconography of our stupid, stupid lives.
Released back out to pasture, I watch Mills. His wife was murdered. Murdered, you see, it's an action, and it's solvable. Mills solved it.
You can't solve the slow death. Not really.
I think about how empty Mills is.
Am I empty?
An unidentifiable amount of time ago, Marla called me again, and she told me all about what happens at the new support groups she goes to, since I ruined the old ones for her. They were willing to rally behind her for the whole blowing my brains out show, and she only would've had to wait them out for six months or so, but she decided to just find new ones. A new church, with new temptations like Living With Angels, a group for those caring for severe dementia patients, and Recovery Road: a program for those trying to rebuild their lives after a loved one blew them up. She said, when I got out, we could both go to that one, and I could talk about Tyler, and she could talk about me, and we could have fun getting kicked out together.
Marla was always talking about that. When I got out.
I wasn't ever hearing any of it.
Mills, they've let up on him, finally, you can see his eyeballs aren't floating with all they've juiced him up on. He's watching me, back.
I wonder if he knows about Marla.
Would Tyler care?
Tyler had said, don't call this love.
Does it need to be?
When I get my voice back, I bury my thoughts on the subject and Marla and everything in a relentless campaign to needle Mills until he looks like a voodoo doll in a shitty tourist trap.

society if we actually finally got mad rat dead 2 and/or DLC
WOE . YOUVE ACTIVATED MY HYPERFIXATION TRAP CARD.
first of all: real and true. its been several years and th madrat plushie still isnt finished being plushie'd iirc. its so funny. second of all: i have Opinions about this topic ok listen ok ok. im going to get a Little annoying abt it. apawlogies.
(so um, obviously, mrd spoilers. im being serious youshould play mrd if you havent already i love it dearly ok. thankyou.)
ilove this funny little game so much and id love to see it mentioned and appreciated more than it is with all of my heart. that being said; we do Not need a sequel. honestly, the dlc route i think would fit much better-- something id personally love to see. because again; the whole Coming To Terms With Death thing. mad rats arc revolves around that! getting to live the way he wants to; leaving his mark in a way he feels satisfied with-- thats the whole Thing. not only this, but heart and rat god's characters revolve around it too-- albeit in a different way.
what im saying is that a lot of the time, whenever ive seen discussion of a theoretical sequel, its always just kinda putting everyone back and everyone lives and thats kind of.. it. its hard to make a sequel to a game like this without kinda intrinsically doing that. but that also completely goes against what the story stands for as a whole. the whole mousewheel metaphor, yknow? it feels like itd kinda render everything mad rat and heart did kind of meaningless. like itd remove a lot of the weight of what the story presents.
what i personally think would really work, in terms of extra story, is something more akin to inter-story expansions. details where there werent things before; stages in between what we see in canon. because there's a Lot of things that simply remain unsaid (which i WONT infodump about here itll be an all day thing; what ill say is that this isnt a strictly negative thing) and being able to extrapolate a bit more on heart's-- and especially rat god's-- characters would be a Really fantastic option. heart, as a lead, gets a lot of introspection and screentime, but he also inherently revolves around whatever mad rat chooses to do. its hard to imagine he doesnt have things he doesn't-- or wouldn't-- express. (i think about how willing he was to die with mad rat; how he immediately followed along with him, supported him. what does this say about heart? who He was before all this? how he was before all this?)
and obviously . rat god. all i have to do is point to If We Could Be Friends. it speaks absolute Volumes about who she is and how she functions Despite her role in the story and how she presents herself. between that and everything at the end of Mad Rat Die, there is so much she simply doesnt express of herself. because she doesnt have to. she's Never had to. so to suddenly have to grapple with what you stand for being (successfully!!!) challenged like that-- listen. she has some Serious traits left unexplained, unspoken. as she is in-canon is genuinely fantastic, if horribly tragic by nature. but getting to see just the Smallest bit more of that attitude shine through with a theoretical expansion would kill.
i love how quiet all that is. it fits her. but to add a bit more definition would be Really great. i want to know how everyone would potentially grapple with that-- how she would grapple with that. what i most strongly imagine is a pseudo-noncanon almost dreamsequence type thing-- things still end the way they do, but it serves to simply allow them to be honest with each other, who they are, and really let them settle what fate chose to do with them. maybe they will meet again, in heaven, in hell.
also im tired of people acting like she has no character other than "wants to kill you" and "hashtag girlboss" me when i fuckig get y

Recently saw a post in the Adam Taurus tag (an exercise in patience, that tag) that claimed that the signs of Adam not actually caring for the Faunus cause start as early as the Black Trailer. Their evidence?
Blake: What about the crew members?
Adam: What about them?
They proposed that the lack of concern Adam felt for the SDC crew whilst knowing that Faunus were often employed against their will meant he always put his revenge above the needs of the Faunus
Let me tell you, my jaw dropped at the stupidity
The way they went on, you'd think he was about to kill a small nation's worth of SDC workers, but like.
Babe.
It's a cargo train. Their skeleton crew barely has bones
According to the Association of American Railroads, the standard practice is a two-person crew, a locomotive engineer and a conductor, but it's not uncommon to have a crew of one. It would undoubtedly suck to be one of those guys if Adam had succeeded, but it's not the unbridled massacre people seem to think it is
As for the Faunus angle, I highly doubt any slave would be given the skills of either of those positions, much less left in charge of who knows how much lien's worth of name brand products, so no danger of accidentally eliminating the unfortunate kin there. Had they been Faunus that did join the SDC of their own volition, then they's be SOL just like the humans
I'm so tired of people making shit up or blowing things out of proportion to justify their Adam hate
