Opening a new AO3 Account
Because I often see people saying how hard it is to open an AO3 account when actually... it's not THAT complicated.
Like yes, when you first entered the site you'll be greeted with this.
If you wanna create a new account, you'd think that the only way to do it is by clicking that [Get invited!] button... right?
Thus, you'll end up with this page ^.
But yanno, since this invite request system is AUTOMATED, it will take some time for your invite code to be sent to you. I mean, just take a look and that last line on the above picture! And frankly, 4500 codes every 12 hours was not that bad really... if you compare it to when Ao3 has just started.
Even then...
DO YOU KNOW THAT THERE'S EVEN FASTER WAY TO GET AN AO3 INVITATION CODE? *
HOW, you ask?
Well, you can just ask ANY existing AO3 users if they have any extra invitation codes and have them give it to you. And it's not a very complicated process.
If you already became an AO3 user (and have some extra invitation code) but don't know how to give out the codes to friends who wanted it as well, then follow these steps.
Open your profile page, and look at your profile name.
There should be some buttons under your profile name, one of it would be the [Invitations] button. Click that to see the codes,
You'll be seeing a list of codes that you should automatically receive from AO3. If not, you could always request for it.
Like yes, if you need more codes, you can just click on the [Request Invitation] button. And if you want to send someone an invite code, you just enter the email address of the person you want to give the code to... and click Send, as the green arrow indicates.
Alternatively, you can just manually send the invite codes. Just go to [Manage Invitations]
Copy the link marked as [Copy and Use] and give the link to the person you want to give the code to. Important note tho, you HAVE to copy the actual link and not JUST the random bunch of numbers.
Because the link you've copied should lead you to THIS page.
Once you reach this page, you can just start opening your brand new AO3 account.
Likewise, if you've sent the codes thru the email, ask the person you've sent the codes to to check their inbox for the new mail containing the code. And then just click on the link provided.
*I said that this was 'much' faster since some people claimed that they didn't get the codes 'fast' enough, despite how nowadays the amount the server gives out the codes was a lot more compared to back then (which was like a few hundreds per day). So, I offered another option.
Cos yes, I shouldn't be the only one who still has a lot of codes leftover.
#ao3#invite codes#on that note#as the screenshots show. I still had a bunch of codes leftover#hmu if anyone needs the code

better left unsaid || pavellan || chapter 2 snippet
Solas was good, that much was true.
Renan cradled the barrier charm in his palm, fingers cupped to keep the chilled, shivering ward from spilling over.
Solas's hands were steepled, still and empty, in front of his mouth, but the quirk at the corner of his lips... he drew in a breath and Renan let the barrier spill over his fingers, hissing as it sprung up to reflect Solas's spell back over his shoulder, small sparks skittering onto the table between them from the impact.
Exhaling a short incantation, hand twitching from one position to the next. The barrier melting away, energy gathering in his palm —
"What in the world are you two doing?"
Renan's sore hand stuttered, eyes flickered over his shoulder, and fuck. He jolted as a chilling balm sprung up along his skin, one of Solas's wards sending a shiver down Renan's neck as he swore under his breath.
"We're practicing," Solas said simply, dismissing the barrier.
Renan glanced up to the railing of the floor above as he flexed his aching knuckles. He didn't smile when he saw Dorian leaning overhead, a curious scowl on his face, but it was a close thing.
"I've been stuck in the hold for a while," Renan sighed. "We're making sure I haven't gotten rusty before we set out tomorrow."
Dorian somehow leaned further into the railing, scowl softening. "Well," he said, "I was rather enjoying one last day without frizz before we left." He smoothed back his hair somewhat absently. "Put up a barrier first next time, will you? You're throwing off so much static, we may as well be on the coast already."
Renan bowed his head quickly, fanning out his hands; the air clung to him, tugging on the fine hairs along his arms, dragging them to stand on end. "Ah," he said. How sloppy, he didn't say. With a measured inhale, he felt where the static clung to him and clung back, drawing it inward, feeling it tingle up his arms and rest, stinging, behind his lungs. He exhaled just as carefully, wiggling his fingers once to feel for errant sparks, before folding his hands on the table. "My apologies, Dorian."
He heard the railing creak as Dorian righted himself upstairs, the gentle steps as he returned to the alcove he'd claimed, and then...
When he looked back to Solas, pale hands were still folded in front of his face, eyes trained on him just as intently as before. He looked slowly up towards the balcony, then back to Renan. "You're easily distracted," he observed, voice level. "We'll need to work on that."
Renan did not blush, grimace, or rub his face. Instead, he held Solas's gaze carefully as he laid a hand on his staff, propped as it was against the table, and called up a larger ward, tinting the tower blue around them. He briefly rubbed the joints in his hands before drawing a second barrier to rest in his palm, cool and wobbly.
"We'd best get started, then."

Cyclo-Comment Bingo 2024: House Rules

While we're all here to have fun, there needs to be some structure. Below are the rules and guidelines of Cyclo-Comment Bingo 2024. Hopefully, we've covered everything but if you have any questions feel free to contact us! If any rules have to be changed, as mentioned below, we'll reblog this post so that people know.
The event begins at midnight UTC on October 14th, and ends at midnight UTC on November 28th. Only comments posted within this time period will be eligible for prizes.
A comment used to fill a bingo prompt should be starting a new comment thread on a work that you have not created.
All comments used to fill bingo prompts should be more substantive than just 'extra kudos' or an emoji. As a general rule of thumb a comment should contain at least one complete sentence.
All comments for this event should be generally positive and encouraging- we’re trying to show appreciation!
One comment can only fill one square, even if the work can match multiple squares on the board.
If you’ve submitted a board for prizes, you can generate as many new boards and fill them in for prizes as many times within the period of the event.
If you generate a new board after submitting your previous board, you must write a new comment for every box you check off- even if it’s a prompt you have answered before.
Every one line filled out, (aka a ‘bingo’) can be used to input a prompt into the prompt pool
Every three lines that are filled out (on one board!), can be used to request a drabble written, the prompt of which will be randomly selected from the extant prompt pool.
A full house (that is, all 25 squares on the board being filled out) counts for 12 prompts and 6 drabbles written.
A screenshot of your filled board is required to claim any of your prizes, so take it before generating a new one.
We also reserve the right to ask for the links to your bingo board comments if you’re claiming prizes, so make sure all the boxes you are filling in have comments that are under the ao3 account you want your prizes to be gifted to.
Prompts can be rejected by mid discretion.
As this is being run for the first time- the rules might be changed if unforeseen situations come up. Please be patient with us and don’t forget to enjoy yourselves!
Rules for submitted prompts
Characters, ship names, and the like are not allowed. (General rule of thumb is avoid proper nouns).
For prompts blatantly trying to fill bingo squares (puncture, gilet, etc), we will allow one into the pool and then reject all others.
Duplicate prompts are otherwise ALLOWED and ENCOURAGED.
NSFW prompts are also allowed.
#ccb24#*nervous sweating* oh boy hope we haven't forgotten anything Obvious#also if you don't have an ao3 account or want a new one for the fandom contact us! we have some invitation codes!

Batman fic rec
I can't remember the last time I publicly recced a fic (Have I ever? Hmm) but I enjoyed this so much. For me, I figure there's three things a fic can be: satisfying, well written, enjoyable to read. Sometimes one can be enough, if you get two that's great, but when you get all three? BEST THING EVER.
This one hit all three out of the park, and I enjoyed it so much that while reading I was actively aware of how much fun I was having.
What's the fic?
Ain't No Compass, Ain't No Map by ebjameston (Gen, Teen and Up, locked, so you need an AO3 account to read)
CPS Agent, pointing at Tim Drake: We need to take him with us Red Hood: He's fine where he is CPS: He's a minor Hood: Timbo, you a minor? Tim: Can't prove it CPS: I mean, I can. There are records – Tim, who has just finishing hacking CPS to remove his own file: Oh really, tell me more about these records +++ A CPS agent gets sent to investigate a tip that Tim Drake has been abandoned by his parents and is living with the Red Hood. The CPS agent leaves with no Tim Drake, a date with Red Hood's lieutenant, and an intern who's promising to fix the IT systems at his office. It's a weird day for Theo.
It's outsider POV with heavy doses of Batfam and Gotham feels, it's funny and emotional, and the OCs are so incredibly well realised that they feel like canon characters.
Highly recommend to everyone!

Hi! I'm not sure if i missed something but did you take your fics off of AO3? I just when on there to check if you have written anything recently..
Hi there! I’m guessing you don’t have an AO3 account. Within the past 6 months I made my fics only accessible to registered AO3 users. A lot of writers are doing this to reduce the risk of AI access to their fics. Maybe in future I’ll allow open access again, but I’m not sure when that’ll happen. 😕
If you’d like an invite code that allows you to create an AO3 account I’m sure someone can help with that. Unfortunately I don’t have any invite codes anymore, but lots of other people have them. I highly recommend having an account, it’s really so much better to use the site that way. 👌

a maybe for now || pavellan || snippet of better left unsaid
The air was heavy with the yearning chirps of insects, the warm crackling of the fire, and the gentle lapping of Lake Calenhad at the rocky shore. It was, quite possibly, a beautiful night; Renan couldn't say for sure, considering how closely he held his book to his face, squinting to read by flickering firelight.
I cannot say whether the Storm Coast receives more inclement weather than any other stretch of northern Fereldan coastline. That hasn't stopped the region from boasting more than its fair share of tragic tales. If all are to be believed, rich merchant ships blanket the depths due to the follies of their proud captains. The infamous — and likely fictional — pirate, Denel of Salle, gave up the sea to become a Grey Warden while standing on these shores, and countless young women pine for grooms lost to the waves.
I witnessed nothing so fanciful on my brief sojourn to the coast. However, the area is sparsely populated, and as I watched the Waking Sea strike the shore, I could see why such tales are born.
"I beg you to tell me that isn't Genitivi's book you're reading."
The book snapped shut in an instant. Dorian was watching from the other side of the fire, one brow raised over steely eyes and mustache curled around his grimace, and...
And he was waiting for a response. Renan carefully tucked the cover of the book against his chest.
He could be honest, yes. It was a common book in the south, after all, and he could blame Varric for the recommendation if need be, play the role of naive Elf. Shemlen were always ready to believe he did not think for himself. He could also lie, but Dorian was sharper than most, and he'd obviously seen the cover already. Although... it was a funny thing, but Dorian almost seemed to like it when Renan lied to him. Made a game of it, somehow.
"It is... not Genitivi's book I'm reading," he tried.
"You're lying."
"I believe you begged me to?" Renan countered, sliding the offending book into the bag at his feet.
Dorian rolled his eyes. "Oh, please," he sighed, but the usual grin was absent.
Perhaps he isn't in the mood after the long ride? Unless... Renan licked across his teeth, canine digging into tongue. "And there you are, begging again."
It was a tad further than he'd meant to push the joke, but it seemed to do the trick, the tension in Dorian's face cracking as he rubbed his eyes with a long-suffering groan. "Get your mind out of the gutter, Inquisitor," he scoffed. "Or at least have the decency to invite me in with you. It might help me forget the trite book of propaganda you've dragged into our camp."
"Oh, come on, Sparkler," Varric grumbled from somewhere over Renan's shoulder. Branches rustled against his tunic as he pushed back into the clearing they'd claimed for the night. "It's no Hard in Hightown," he sighed, "but it's not a bad read."
"It's completely fanciful," Dorian snipped, lip curling. "That people still use it as a reference text is a crime. Have you even read what he said of the Imperium?"
Something sparked to life in Renan's chest, settling uncomfortably against his ribs as he drummed his fingers on his leg. "He describes the social hierarchy," he said slowly, "and Tevinter's reliance on slavery."
Dorian tutted. "So you've certainly read the bit where he calls the Imperium a dilapidated old slattern, then, yes?"
Something about the buzzing of insects went from soothing to irritating in that moment. "A rude description, certainly," Renan acknowledged, "but it's a subjective observation."
Dorian rolled his eyes. "Do not mistake me for a patriot, Inquisitor, but the beauty of the Imperium's cities is an objective fact — you'd have to be blind not to appreciate the architecture."
Renan's fingers stopped drumming, falling eerily still on his knee.
He still remembered the first time he saw the spires of a Tevinter city from their aravel, hazy and sparkling on the horizon. As soon as they'd come into view, his mother pushed the halla harder than he'd ever seen them run before, knick knacks and carvings flying off of shelves as the wheels crashed over bumpy hills.
That night, when they reached the Arlathvhen, he'd clung to her robes, asked why they'd tired the halla. She'd pet his hair back, tweaked his nose. Oh, Nanni, she'd said, if you see Tevinter, you run the other way. Do you understand me?
Of course, he hadn't, then. These days, he understood far too well.
"For some," he said flatly, "architecture loses its charm when you consider the matter of its maintenance."
Dorian blinked, face blank. "Maintenance?"
Face blank. Face blank, as though he —
The hair rose on the back of his neck. "You're kidding, aren't you?"
Dorian shifted how he sat, likely uncomfortable without the luxury of a chaise lounge, and dear gods, he didn't get it. Didn't understand the exhausted halla, didn't understand the haunting gaps around the fire, simply didn't get it.
Anger crackled through his chest, clinging to his skin.
"I suppose," he started, voice clipped and back straight, "it must be easy to forget the labor that goes into building and maintaining those beautiful cities when none of it is done by your own people."
To his left, Varric shifted. "Inquisitor..."
"But I will tell you this, Dorian: Elven children are taught from childhood to recognize the border of Tevinter, to recognize Imperium-built wagons and buildings. Not to appreciate their beauty, but to understand their danger."
Insects chirped, the fire crackled, the waves lapped at the shore somewhere nearby, and Varric took a prolonged sip of his drink before slowly climbing to his feet and excusing himself for the night.
Across the fire, Dorian sat uncomfortably, eyes restless and fingers twisted in one of the damned belts across his chest. Eventually, he shut his mouth, swallowed. "For what it's worth," he said quietly, "it... is illegal to bring servants into the Imperium against their will."
Slowly, Renan stood, smoothing back his hair. "If it is against their will," he said, hair crackling under his touch, "then they are slaves, not servants. Do them the dignity of acknowledging it." He took a deep breath, trying to draw the static back into himself, but it clung to his skin regardless, sparks jumping between fingertips. "And for how often that law is broken, Dorian..."
He sighed, turning to his tent.
"It is not worth very much."
