How to get into Coding!
Coding is very important now and in the future. Technology relies on coding and in the future you will need to know how to code to get a high-paying job. Many people consider having Computer Science field-related jobs, especially in AI. What if you are interested it in general or as a hobby? What if you don't know what you want to do yet for college?
Pick a language you want to learn: Personally, I started out with HTML and CSS. I recommend if you want to do web design HTML and CSS are good languages to start with. Otherwise, start with JavaScript or Python.
2. Find Resources: Basically you want to look at videos on YouTube, and take classes that have coding like AP CSP, AP CS A (harder class), Digital Information Technology, etc. You can also attend classes outside in the summer like CodeNinjas and use websites like code.org, freeCodeCamp, and Codecademy. Also, ask your friends for help too! You can find communities on Reddit and Discord as well.
3. Start Practicing: Practice slowly by doing small projects like making games for websites and apps. You can work with friends if you are still a beginner or need help. There's also open-source coding you can do!
4. Continue coding: If you don't continue, you will lose your skills. Be sure to always look up news on coding and different coding languages.
5. Certifications: If you are advanced in coding or want to learn more about technology, you can do certifications. This can cost a lot of money depending on what certification you are doing. Some school districts pay for your certification test. But if you take the test and pass, you can put it on your resume, and job recruiters/interviewers will be impressed! This can help with college applications and show initiative if you want a computer science degree. This shows you are a "master" of the language.

So I wanted a hyperintelligent ape for Multiverse Warriors because every superhero setting needs one, but I wasn't sure what species, especially since I already did bonobo for Gods Of Earth.  Then it hit me.  Hyperintelligent Gigantopithecus.  He is very smart and very tall.

i think i can legally post these now, part of my ap drawing portfolio for 22-23. basically each is meant to represent the four humors and traits/symbols/whatever that are associated with them. :)

Regarding CSP as a replacement for Adobe PS: If you use Adobe to draw digital illustrations, CSP is an excellent replacement that I highly recommend. If you use PS for photo editing, then I think Affinity photo would be better. I'm someone who has both CSP and Affinity photo, and thanks to that combo I've been able to drop Adobe entirely!
Yeah, I think this is what I'll do (ty for the info!). CSP is cheap enough with the sale to buy in addition to Affinity Photo, and then I can use AP for photo editing and manipulations and use the more specialized CSP for paintings.

Yes, I drew this! After practicing drawing a kangaroo head, I began experimenting with a semi-realistic style. This piece I done of a jaguar that I traditionally inked and then digitally cleaned up and colored in CSP and Krita.
It's available as an art print in my shop! https://www.redbubble.com/shop/ap/169963791

Droppin’ a little “making of” for the Affection!!! comic!
concept sketch > rough sketch > clean-ish sketch
Ramblings under the cut:
1. Mikey’s line in the concept sketch was originally different! I changed it to “On it!” because I wanted the whole comic to read snappier (and I’m pretty sure it’s a line the boys have used on the show when they’re teamworking). This sketch was probably done in under 10mins because of how scribbly everything is. Maybe even just 5mins.
When I look at it, I can still feel past!Anabelle desperately trying to convey “These lines are Leo’s arms and they are wide open in panel 2, okay future!Anabelle??” - I spend months at a time focused on gesture drawing practice but it always feels like I forget everything when I have an idea I want to draw out. :’) But then again, so long as the concept sketch conveys the information you need it to, then it’s doing its job, right? Let it look stupid. It’s fun to laugh at afterwards anyway.
2. Rough sketch! This is where I decided I wanted to push Leo’s dramatics, to see if I could capture some of the fun expressions we’ve seen on the show. I messed with the panel layout for quite a bit because having them static like in the sketch wasn’t bringing in the energy I wanted (also thought it was funny to have panels tilted like that because they look similar to the top of Leo’s head).
3. This clean-ish sketch served as my base for the lineart. Sometimes I do one more pass on the sketch just to make sure the character proportions and important stuff are in order, but I was really itching to clean this one up.
Every time I get to the lineart stage for a Rise fanart, I’m always looking to see how closely I can mimic the style of the show while maintaining the liveliness of my sketches. I’ve never thought about it in depth before but I guess I approach it like a master study. I’m not always like this with fanart but the art on Rise is kinda special to me and figuring out how to ape it brings me joy.
Other fun facts:
CSP’s text editor functions aren’t that advanced (in Pro v1 anyway, which is what I use) so I had to manually adjust each character in both “Miguel!” and “Affection!!!” to get them to curve that nicely. No pain no gain, amirite? Lucky this comic isn’t that dialogue heavy, haha.
I’ve been alternating between two brushes for my linework - a smooth one and a gritty/pencil-like one. I actually used the latter for this comic but I guess I must have messed with the brush density at some point because you can’t really see the texture in the lines. Oops?
