PROVIDENCE

Providence, one of 4 ultimate bosses in my game Chronicles Meteorfall, bosses even stronger that superbosses that are super hard and super secret

Providence is a very difficult boss with 3 phases in total. In phase 1, she will use Luster to boost her stats, Antilife to deal colossal almighty damage to all foes while lowering your stats, and all the strongest spells of every element including Rexfire, Rexfrost, Rexthunder, Rexwind, Rexlight, and Rexdark. This phase lasts until she is at 75% HP, where afterward she will heal to full.

Phase 2 is the most interesting of the phases. In this phase she summons 7 "faces", boosting her total press turns from 4 to 8, one for each face and one for herself. In this phase she will continue to use Luster and Antilife, but will no longer use elemental spells. Each face as it's own available moves and attack patterns, each based off a breath of fire 2 party member.

Dog Face: Based on Bow/Bosch. Can use Rexheal to fully heal one ally, Renew to revive an ally with full HP, and Karka Guard and Matra Guard to block all phys/elemental attacks for all allies for 2 turns. This face is by far the one you should target first, it's main weakness being that it never heals itself.

Armadillo Face: Based on Rand. Can use Quake, Rexthunder, Rampage, and Healing Circle. Quake deals severe force damage to all foes x4, but is nulled by flying battlers. Rexthunder deals unreal thunder damage to all foes x3. Rampage deals unreal smash damage to 4 random foes x2, and Healing Circle casts Regen on one ally.

Cat Face: Based on Katt/Lin. Can use Godspeed Strike K, Sidestep, Power Charge, Rexfire, Rexthunder, and Rexfrost. Godspeed Strike deals unreal strike damage to all foes twice based on SPD and Sidestep allows her to dodge one physical attack automatically. Has incredibly high SPD and DEX so she crits and dodges a lot, but suffers from surprisingly low AP, especially for a boss.

Monkey Face: Based on Sten. Can use Sidestep, Raging Fist, Beastdancer S, Hypernova, Comet, and Rexfire. Raging Fist deals major smash damage to one foe based on how low the user's HP is. Beastdancer S allows all allies to always crit for one turn, Hypernova deals unreal almighty damage to all foes twice, and comet deals randomized almighty damage to all foes. He is the most balanced of the faces, specializing in both physical and magickal attacks.

Frog Face: Based on Jean/Tapeta. Can use Blizzard Flurry, Enblink, Debilitate, Galgleam Eyes, Smite, and Death. Blizzard Flurry deals massive strike and water damage to all foes 4 times. Enblink raises all allies SPD/DEX by one stage. Debilitate lowers all foes stats by one stage. Galgleam Eyes lowers one foe's HP and AP to 1. Smite and Death instantly kill any and all targets weak to light or dark respectively. He is your second priority in this fight.

Dryad Face: Based on Spar/Asparas. Can use Luster, Debilitate, Soul Steal, and Rexfrost. Soul Steal steals a tremendous amount of HP/AP from one foe.

Dragon Face: Can use ALL the dragoon's elemental breaths including Fire Breath, Ice Breath, Thunderbeam, Wind Breath, Mist Breath, and Dark Breath. When reduced to 0 HP he'll use his desperation attack "Giga Breath" which deals a max of 9999 celestial damage to all foes, the attack doing less damage the lower his AP%. Take him out last.

Every time one of Providence's faces are defeated, she loses one press turn. Once all of them are destroyed, you must face phase 3. In this phase providence will ONLY use the art "Bannehammer" which deals 99,999 "banne elemental" damage to all foes. She also nulls all elements during this phase. Bannehammer is the only art in the game that's of the banne element, and there is no way to null banne damage. So then how do you beat phase 3? Well, there actually is a way to REPEL banne elemental damage, but it's very complex. But first, I must explain how to reach PROVIDENCE in the first place.

In my game, Chronicles Meteorfall, there are random events called "FUN Events", triggered by a special variable called a "FUN Value". This value is randomly selected from 1 to 99 every time you start a new game or begin a NG+, and is set for the rest of the playthrough. When the FUN value is set at very specific intervals or certain ranges, strange and unusual things may randomly happen. One of these events is a DOOR opening in Eternia Frostlands, a mid-game area, requiring either a FUN value between 40 and 44 to have it appear. You also must be on NG+ in order for this door to appear.

Once you go into this door you will be in an empty gray void with strange yellow and black sprites wandering around with the words "ERASED BY PROVIDENCE" written on their sprite. When you try to talk to them, their text boxes are empty. You can meet me in the gray void, who tells you that this is a 404 error page and that you're not supported to be here, a "realm between realities." She gives you the "404 Server" item to allow you to access the void at any time, and by talking to her again and selecting "yes" you can instantly start another NG+ run.

This "gray void", the "ERASURE ZONE", also has PROVIDENCE wandering around as a massive Lv404 monster that if she sees you will chase you and prompt a fight with her if she catches you, which you can thankfully run away from. Fighting her at this stage is pointless, as even if you are able to reach phase 3 she'll just OKO you with Bannehammer. What you need to ACTUALLY do is find all the "lost souls" hidden across multiple different worldlines. What do I mean by this? Well, on specific FUN values, in specific areas, and with a 1/44 chance of appearing you can encounter a "lost soul" who will give a cryptic message before disappearing forever. Every time you encounter a lost soul, they will give you a certain enigmatic item.

Once you unlock the "secret recipes" feat from the NG+ menu, you will be able to craft the item BEYOND;GOD from the inventing table in Baetas, which will allow you to perceive the corrupted sprites in the gray void. Talking to all of them will grant you the "Shield of Rebellion" which repels Banne-elemental damage. Equip this onto one of your character's "special armor slots" and Bannehammer will be repelled, dealing 99,999 damage to PROVIDENCE. This won't outright kill her in a single turn, but with your character immune to her only attack PROVIDENCE will just end up attacking herself with Bannehammer until she dies.

The reward from this fight is the "Godborn Ring", a piece of armor that lowers all stats by 75%, but boosts EXP gained by a percentage equal to your current level. This means at Lv99, the default max level without any NG+ feats, you will gain +99% EXP, which might not seem like much, but this ring is ESSENTIAL for leveling to the true cap of Lv999, as past Lv99 the EXP cost for leveling up becomes MUCH higher. But how do you obtain these rare items from the lost souls? That's where the FUN Radar comes in. You can obtain the FUN Radar by defeating the previous ultimate boss Prophetess Barbello and defeating her secret second form, Barbello FRIEKOS. The FUN radar allows you to re-assign your FUN value at any time, not requiring any more NG+ runs, and also allows you to actually be able to view your FUN value straight from the game.

My AP Physics teacher, or who was supposed to teach me, had worked at my school for years, and barely used ANY sick/mental health days.

So, after about a week, she turned them ALL in and, low and behold, the entire YEAR she didn’t have to show up. Now, you would think the school would just give us a sub. But, somehow our admin is unbelievably shitty, and we had a new sub every 2 weeks to a month.

Half of them didn’t know how to even do the curriculum, and if they did, we would have to learn a new version of something every two weeks. Needless to say, only a handful of us passed the AP test.

Woody goes to every school concert and musical, even though she doesn’t have to, but Brady’s obviously directing the band (the theater kids can sometimes get on his nerves. The band kids are basically his children though). She and John are almost always the last ones hanging around the auditorium by the end of the night after the performances are over. The two of them, alone in a dimly lit auditorium…anything can happen🤭

Since Holly knows pretty much everyone’s business, Bucky also knows pretty much everyone’s business. Constantly leaning into each other and whispering and snickering in the teacher’s lounge (they’re so annoying about it, god bless)

As the baseball coach and Phys. Ed. teacher, Bucky expects a lot from the guys on the baseball team. Everyone else can walk the mile if they want, he doesn’t care. Most likely to curse around students, like an exasperated “oh shit” every once in a while that endears him to them. Big proponent of the class pizza party

Buck teaches Physics and students of all genders are pulling some Indiana Jones “love you” on the eyelids type of shit even though he mentions Marge regularly because he loves her! She also sends him in with different baked goods for the AP students every week or so (there’s always one or two missing by the time he gets to class because Bucky stole some in the teacher’s lounge)

Much to say about guidance counselor Rosie. Absolutely loves chaperoning the school dances and always ends up showing off his moves that become increasingly outdated with each passing year, but damn if those kids aren’t cheering him on like it’s American Bandstand. He’s mentioned in pretty much every valedictorian speech. Former students still send him cards around the holidays. He’s been invited to a few weddings. Definitely gets the most gifts at the end of the school year

Back to Woody and Brady! They carpool to work. At first it’s just an excuse to spend more time together but then she’s staying over at his place all the time so…

Some of their students start to hatch a plan to get them together but then they see them walking into the building holding hands one day and they’re like “Nevermind.” Kinda annoyed they stole their thunder

My DOS2 modding bullshit

So, I've continued to poke around at my 4-character team of different levels of bullshit.

Under cut, because (as always) it gets a bit long.

Current team:

1 - The ranger with a bow-enchantment that causes phys-dmg explosions.

The base-weapon dmg has been nerfed (90 -> 50), with the explosions picking up the slack (40). The explosions have the same range as Ricochet, are affected by Huntsman-bonuses, and are unaffected by skills that decrease "missile-dmg" for "more missiles".

Consequences of this is that skills like Arrow-Spray (many, but very weak missiles) is now incredibly powerful.

Note, I would very much like to redo this mod so that the explosions only damages the people around the target, leaving the original target intact, because that would help Ranger do AOE without insanely boosting these moves. However, I can't figure out how to do this in the Divinity Engine, so it seems like a doomed thing.

2 - The necromancer with a bunch of extra-skills that do a bit of AOE and some CC.

The CC is mainly possible-triple-stacks of -1AP to targets (blocked by phys-armor). Very good, and a massive boost for the early-game, but probably largely an irrelevant change late-game (since the end-game necromancer spells are incredibly bullshit already).

3 - The knight with phys-dmg STR-scaling Master-of-Sparks.

Probably the single-most DPS-capable thing in the game, if the conditions are right. Master-of-Sparks is basically a buff that shoots bouncing projectiles at nearby targets when you hit someone in melee, and knight can hit a lot of things in melee.

I've accidentally killed half of an encounter before my actual turn because the enemy ran past the already-buffed knight, triggering an Opportunist-attack which (with cleave) proceeded to hit everything.

It's incredibly broken, even if it's an irrelevant boost in 1v1 situations.

4 - The rogue with the infinite AP.

Gave the rogue two dagger-locked skills. One which reduces all AP-costs by one (can't reduce a skill-cost to zero), and one which is a tiny-ass AOE that gives you AP for every target that you hit.

Daggers have a base-dmg of 55, dual-wielding puts this at 82 (a regular STR-weapon is 67, with dw putting it at 100, and a 2handed is 105). So in a perfect world, this basically means that compared to the knight's 100-dmg, this rogue does 164 before backstabs.

This then gets boosted even further with my AP-gaining AOE, making it feel almost as if you get an extra turn for free.

Unfortunately, daggers still suck at doing AOE-dmg, so the single-attack dmg-numbers are still shit and it doesn't feel like it's really doing a lot of damage.

The problem

As mentioned, the rogue does a lot of damage, but it feels incredibly awkward. The fact that the AP-buff is dagger-locked also makes it tempting to have the necromancer pick up a dagger (it won't change much in most spells, but it's definitely not a bad addition), which taints the feeling of "everyone is bullshit in their own way".

Unfortunately, the knight is too excellent, the ranger has already laid claim to the boom-stick, and I don't want to have two things with the same bullshit-skill on the team.

Thoughts

The problem with the rogue is that daggers kind of suck. Their base-dmg is too shit to do much with without boosting the AP somehow, and they have no real AOE-options worth speaking of.

Adding a "different" kind of STR when Sparks is right there is never going to work (too easy to just add it to both). And I do want it to be a melee-build.

That leaves INT (battlemage) or FIN (spear, dagger). I tried doing the battlemage before, and it was miserable (kept dying because it didn't have any armor), so that leaves the spear.

But a spear is basically just a souped-up knight, and there's nothing that it really adds to that except "more range" and "shittier armor" and "dodge".

However, I could just change the Master-of-Sparks to work on FIN for the spear-user instead of the knight. But then what would I do instead?

Shield-warrior

Knights have incredibly high phys-armor, and there is a close-range spell that explodes your armor-numbers into DPS. It's also a heavily-nerfed spell because people kept cheesing it (it's possible to temporarily get insane amounts of armor by jumping through some out-of-combat hoops, and then you use the skill and kill everything).

I don't really want to cheese it though? Because having my knight standing around in a basement all-game, waiting for the others to initiate combat (before teleporting to their location) sounds... incredibly dull.

So, because it's such a nerfed spell and because I don't want to cheese it in order to make it strong enough to be good, this is... not a great option?

I could just reverse some of those nerfs (the world is my oyster), but I could also just... give myself infinite-plus super-powers that explode everyone who looks at me funny. There has to be a trade-off, is what I'm saying.

However, as I was digging around through this mess, I stumbled across an old skill that was removed from the game, called "chain-pull".

AKA, the skill that makes everyone around you suddenly become right next to you.

In a world where aoe is really powerful and kind of awkward to set up, this spell is godly.

Getting it set up to work was pretty easy, even if the animations are missing, and suddenly the limited range of the armor-explosion skill doesn't sound like such a big nerf?

It won't do as much damage as it really should, but I can at least decrease its AP-cost with the argument that the scroll (that does the same things as the skill) only ever costs a single AP.

This is still a bit of a problem because "explode armor" does in fact explode your own armor, but I realized that I could just add a weapon-enchantment that makes you regenerate armor when hitting things.

(Very specifically "things", because trying to limit "what counts for the hit" is seemingly impossible.)

So, I could chain-pull, explode my armor, and then hit everyone with a weapon-skill, thereby regenerating all of the armor that I lost.

It's... not the level of bullshit that is my ranger or my Master-of-Sparks, and it would still reward me for putting my knight in a basement all-game. But it could maybe be a start?

As is, the un-nerfed explode-armor does about the same damage as a regular base-attack of my knight. (Knight does low-500, Shield does barely-600.)

Which would mean that if I just gave chain-pull to a non-Sparks-knight, they could do similar damage with a single Whirlwind, no armor-shenanigans needed.

Sure, I could lock the chain-pull behind a shield, but that wouldn't change the core of the problem (the fact that explode-armor sucks when used as a non-cheese skill).

Maybe I could add a "thick of the fight" version that boosts armor depending on how many enemies are around you? That'd definitely up the damage-amount, without cheesing it, and the no-shield-knight wouldn't really care about it (since it wouldn't affect its DPS).

Hmm... yeah, should think about this again when I wake up again. Need to go back to bed now though, because I'm still sleeping in 5h-batches.
