Jinx- Hardcore noise music girlie. The more obnoxious the better. If the beat makes you audibly go "what the fuck is going on", she's eating that up. That's groups like Stray Kids, Ateez, NCT (don't ask which one, the answer is all of them), etc. She also likes G-Idle because Isha fucking loved Queencard and Wife and has since put those songs on Sevika's arm, much to her annoyance. It's grown on her though, since Isha quit being a trainee at Breathing entertainment (GET IT BECAUSE SHE'S-)

Vi- I don't think she'd like any particular group, if she comes across some kpop and it sounds good to her then it's whatever. She's shown some consistent interest in BTS' earlier music (so from like 2 Kool 4 Skool to The Most Beautiful Moment in Life). She doesn't understand the obsession some people have with it but she respects it to some extent. However some people think she's a huge kpop stan because she keeps going out to buy albums for Jinx. She used to just steal them but then she decided to date a COP and now she has to "obey the law" or whatever. Kinda cringe.

Caitlyn- Christian horse girl music. For the uninitiated, this is an unofficial sub genre of kpop. It's literally just the most squeaky clean, probably heard it in a kdrama type songs. So GFriend, Berry Good, Lovelyz, a little bit of Loona, April, Apink, WJSN. No this is not all she's ever been allowed to listen to, she acquired this taste herself. She's a basic bitch at heart and we love her for that ♥️

Jayce- Caitlyn may be basic, but this man is BASIC basic. knows two BTS songs and it's Dynamite and Butter. But good news! He's not completely out of the loop. He knows about the Butter remix with Megan Thee Stallion. He also liked Neva Play by Megan Thee Stallion, RM just happens to be on that song. And he listened to the Mamushi remix featuring Twice. Mamushi, by Megan Thee Stallion. Are we seeing a trend here, perchance? Anyway, besides that, remember when Jungkook was popping off in the states for his solo stuff back in 2023? He was into that too. In fact he still consistently listens to the Golden album. At some point he wanted to get into New Jeans but then he googled how old they were and said FFFFFFUCK NO. (Go ahead, look up how old they were when they debuted. Also, on that note, FUCK HYBE, WE'RE BOYCOTTING THEIR ASSES- or at least we were supposed to for the past year because they can't help but hire Zionist weirdos but people didn't get the memo till they fully fucked over New Jeans so)

Anyway, on with the post!

Viktor- He is all the way a Red Velvet stan. Their music is just calm enough to where he doesn't find it distracting and just hype enough for him not to find it boring. He's the type of guy who puts on music to hear it, not to forget it's playing. He usually keeps songs like Bad Boy, Feel My Rhythm, and Psycho in rotation. That's really all the kpop he listens to but he loves Aespa's aesthetics and lore. Does he understand what's going on? Vaguely. He doesn't have the time to do a deep dive but he knows enough to think it's cool. Jayce does too, mostly because of Viktor.

Heimerdinger- He's a Once, next question.

Mel- I'm not too sure how to categorize this, all I'm gonna say is that her taste matches her tax bracket. She's listening to Kiss of Life, IVE, Le Sserafim, Mamamoo, Chungha, and she's fully caught up on the scandals. She could tell you who Hyuna's married to and why that's a problem, she knows who shat on the floor at that one award show, why Jimin and Jeongyeon had beef, she can explain kpop pipelines you didn't know existed. Jayce will listen to all of this very intently even though he has no idea who the fuck these people are. Like at all. He's lost. She knows he doesn't really understand but she appreciates that he gives her the time of day. She's also the type of person to decorate her photocards, all the decorations are gold.

Ekko- He likes a lot of the same groups Jinx does but in a different way. The way she likes their insane, loud songs, he likes the ones that are a little more chill. But sometimes when he misses her, he'll play the songs she likes. So, that being said, it's entirely possible that he cried his eyes out to fucking Sticker by NCT 127 (I think? Idk I be forgetting). Like from the other room you'd hear some weird ass recorder noises and violent sobbing. Besides that, he also enjoys really obscure groups. He's the nugu king. Some of the artists on his Spotify wrapped have like 10,000 streams combined. Where did he find this? Nobody knows. He also likes K/DA and his bias is Akali. That makes more sense when you remember True Damage exists

I 'm so out of touch (touch-touch-touch-touch), why is IST bad?

so basically some smaller companies were eaten by ist at some point in the last couple years (playm which had many artists and cre.ker housing tbz) ist focuses on the artists that make them money which basically was just tbz especially considering their road to kingdom and kingdom promotions gaining them many many fans.

i think they fumbled so hard with weeekly who had that one song (after school i believe) that was literally EVERYWHERE in 2021-2022 yet they’re still nugu because frankly ist gives them no promotion. their songs are genuinely so good idk why they couldn’t be a more talked about and popular girl group at this point ?? usually having a song as viral as after school would get you at a good place for future promotion and success

victon situation is worse. victon had a lot of potential to be super super popular and were doing just fine. like they literally had successful comebacks and a supportive fanbase but then just kinda fizzled out when seungwoo went to the military and they were promoting as 6. under playm management they did well but under ist they got so little promotions and no music show wins lead to even less. since they debuted a year before tbz and were kinda making similar ish music I feel like they were overshadowed and discarded in favour of tbz. even now they still haven’t “disbanded” but haven’t had a comeback since 2022 like alices are just waiting silently at this point for the final blow

also apink was the only other big girl group under playm and also fizzled out in popularity + members left the company. idk too much about their management and how they were treated but I can’t expect it was any better than victon.

as for tbz there was a time where content was being neglected and comeback showcases dance practice videos etc weren’t happening which fans were not happy about. and general overworking of tbz because they were the main group doing well lead to them staying relevant I suppose but it’s not a good thing for any company to do… like there are ways to give them proper rest and regular comebacks instead of constant schedules. and I think tbz could’ve been even popular if they had better promotion and stuff like they’re talked abt in kpop but still in that middle ground. I think ist pushed for a lot of tours for whatever reason instead of building their popularity with good comebacks. you can really see in 2024 as well just how busy they’ve been with comebacks and tours and musicals solo schedules etc like tbz have been crazy crazy busy nonstop for a rly rly long time.

I know for atbo another nugu boy group under ist that they’re on their 3rd survival show or smth??? if that doesn’t show how little promotion and success they’re getting due to ist’s negligence idk what does. it’s like they’re putting all their eggs in tbz basket and hoping that the other groups can get popular and make money without any help from the company

honestly we as fans don’t know the entirety of the inner workings of a company or how a group is truly being treated behind the scenes but it’s pretty clear tbz are happy to have left (and with so many other ist artists leaving the company last year and this year…. It’s telling) I’m just happy for a fresh start for tbz and hope they can achieve even greater things under a new company with other big and successful artists (viviz taemin etc)

Rules, kinks and favorite idols/groups

I've had this blog for a while but finally I'm not busy enough to keep it active. So there are the rules:

Idols must be 18 or older (obviously).

Sex must always be consensual.

I think one reason why intl fans are completely against mhj is because of that info leaking allegation cuz now all stans of all groups are speculating about how any bad press or scandal in the past few years was her doing and this allows them to completely shift the blame from the artists like I’ve seen people allege how those bad lee serafim performance critiques were clearly paid for and started by her. On the other hand hybe has some were prominent company stans. I also think sometimes people have a general hard time just accepting that somebody shitty is partly right and partly wrong as well.

It’s so weird and interesting to see how much practically everybody is leaning into a ‘good guy’ and ‘bad guy’ narrative. Like the cherrypicking of info. I saw somebody say that mhj was saying weird things about Lee serafim and their debut but when you zoom out the truth is that yeah she was saying some super weird stuff about them but also she was standing up for the nj girls cuz their debut was getting pushed back and when hybe was questioned about it they basically shrugged the concerns away. Like dude all of them are creepy but this also shows how little hybe cares about those girls as well.

on the newjeans note I also found it so creepy but concerning how much those young girls are going through turmoil cuz mhj isn’t settling firm boundaries between them like I admit I know that within this industry the line between the managerial staff and artist gets very blurred cuz that’s who you spend the most time with so they’re almost family but still those girls should not have to call you crying worrying about your mental health mhj. I genuinely wonder what’s going on with those girls cuz right now yeah since they’re profitable hybe will want to keep them but clearly there’s a certain callousness with which they’re dealing with them but on the other side mhj is just such a concerning case as well. I hope things work out for them they’re all so young. I know I’m making assumptions but I get so so pissed off at the parents for even putting such young girls in these positions to begin with. I’m sorry this was so long it’s just everybody is extremely favouring one side and I just wanted to vent to somebody who sees that they’re all absolute asses

i feel like 'mhj is a creep' and 'mhj cares for nj in her own way' and 'mhj was screwed over by the bigshit machine' can coeexist

'oh they were scouted by different company and spent x years there' well apink was trained in cube but president hong decided to let them go and have debut them in different company called 'a cube' and apink members parents were rightfully upset about it yeeears later. trainee transfers are a normal thing? how many boy trainees went through cube after 2016? how many debuted elsewhere... how many times a smaller/broke company gets taken over by bigger company and all trainees are sacked... it just doesn't make the news

Apink - Pink Memory

Overall, extremely impressed by this album. The thing that stuck out to me the most was the vocals. I’ve just listened to 29 albums by SM girl groups, and not a single one of those albums had vocals as beautiful as the ones I just listened to. Part of it is that SM just like, refused to mix their vocals cleanly until 2015, but part of it is definitely that there are some excellent vocalists in this group. Their breathy voices were So pretty, their high notes were So pretty, their regular singing voices were So pretty.

As far as musical style goes, I can see why you said that this album is kind of a midpoint. The only other Apink song that I know is Dumhdurum, and that’s definitely further along the house/EDM side of the continuum. I don’t know Apink’s earlier stuff, but I know bubblegum well enough to imagine that a lot of this album probably sits somewhere in between the two extremes, maybe leaning a bit more bubblegum.

Highlights of the album were definitely Perfume and Promise U. I love sounds that aren’t used often in kpop, and that kind of lofi electric piano that was in Promise U is super uncommon among the stuff that I know.

Anyway, score average is 7.7 which feels about right, maybe a bit low. My biggest issues weren’t with the music itself, though, just with my personal taste. The ballad in particular was objectively excellent, I just don’t like ballads in general.

I’m not a huge fan of the instrumentals here. I dunno what the name is for this genre, but there is SO much of this sound in early SM girl groups, and it got tiring midway through M.I.L.K.

Like, if I’d heard this song a month ago, or maybe a few months from now, I’d probably enjoy it more. But having just spent like three weeks straight listening to albums using this sound…

Day 100

Irene hates how cold and dark her apartment is. The vacant living room reminds her to invest in a couch or a futon, but it’s all just a distraction in the form of empty promises. She chooses to live this life, yet she can’t help but hate the silence. 

The rookie actress opens the fridge only to see its contents are the same leftovers she’s eaten for the past 2 days. Wanting something else for a change, she looks to order something online. She’s about to order some malatang, but remembers how Chorong was craving it the last night they were together. It’s an obscure memory, but the emotions rise enough that Irene decides she will no longer get anything delivered. Ramen it is. 

As the water boils, she looks through her emails. Her agent had forwarded her various invitations to award show galas and movie release after-parties. Irene knows she should start attending them again, but she still doesn’t feel sure if she was ready. 

The celebrity knows she has a social status to upkeep and everyone’s waiting for her return to the spotlight. She’s lost track of how much time has passed, but regardless of how high that count is, she isn’t sure if she’s capable of attending such a high stakes event alone. 

Maybe she doesn’t have to go stag. She never did anyways. Changsub could carry a conversation when Irene needed to take a step back. Chorong always warned her that he might need to be supervised when he spots expensive bourbon. Byulyi is another safe option. Irene hasn’t really talked to her since the memorial. 

It’s not the same. Changsub won’t squeeze Irene’s hand after a reporter grills her. Byulyi won’t distract everyone around them with dolphin squeaks of a laugh. 

She aggressively snaps the ramen package in half. The sudden motion causes the plastic bag to open in the middle, allowing the blocks of dry noodles to fall. Irene hisses when the boiling water hits her skin.

The idea of “replacing” Yongsun and Chorong never sat well with her. The instant, internal denial makes Irene feel like she’s emotionally regressing, but she has to remember the baby steps she’s already taken, like settling their shared investments and moving out of their apartment. They were all hard decisions to make all by herself, but Irene did it. 

She still wishes she didn’t.

Irene wishes she could still come home to Yongsun working out in the living room and Chorong preparing dinner in the kitchen. Irene wishes she could complain to her roommates about forgetting to take out the trash. Yongsun will sweet talk her way out of Irene’s annoyance and Chorong will ask her about her day.

The two of them weren’t just people Irene lived with. It might've seemed like that more than 12 years ago when they shared a college dorm together. Their relationship evolved into a friendship with all the classes they shared. They became sisters when they cried about breakups and job rejections. 

That was all taken away from Irene after a phone call with the police and within the white walls of the funeral home. 

Irene has learned to stop blaming herself for what happened, but it’s never been easy for her to cope with her losses. 

She can afford new furniture and try new food and attend important events alone, but the lack of Chorong and Yongsun’s presence manifests into a discomfort she doesn't know how to battle just yet. 

When the ramen is done cooking, she grabs a bottle of soju from the fridge and settles down in her breakfast nook. Irene always thought that this table was too small for the three of them. Irene always thought that with less people, it would take longer for her to consume the leftover alcohol. At an alarming rate, empty bottles easily occupied the empty spaces.

As she waits for her meal to cool down, she browses through social media. She takes a swig out of her bottle before scrolling through comments. 

She doesn’t shine as much as she used to. 

Did she get plastic surgery? 

It’s amazing that she can smile after what has happened.

The actress is no stranger to criticism or hate comments. It comes with the job. Short comments can have different meanings and need context that she’ll never receive.    

People can hate on her as much as they want, but as long as she has a schedule, she couldn’t care less. 

That's what they reminded her then. That's what she tells herself now.

She’s half a bottle in until her emotions finally loosen up. Irene slams her phone on the table and stands up. She marches to her bedroom, disregarding her meal and her device. 

Who is she kidding?

No matter how many positive comments there were, no matter how many jobs she could take, they wouldn't be able to uplift her in the same way her friends once did. 

Irene tries her best to commemorate their support by recalling memories and the words of encouragement that they used. She knows Yongsun would be proud of her new project. She can imagine Chorong telling her to ignore the malicious comments. She'll remember them as much as she can, but falls back to the reality that she has to do this alone.

Nonetheless, she can’t always hold herself up, especially on a particularly low day. 

Fear and stress suddenly engulf her. The intensity of loneliness overwhelms her and it’s times like this when she dearly misses her best friends.  

She thinks about how her counselor tells her how “time will heal” and that “work will be a good distraction”. The accident happened last winter and it's nearing their birthdays. Clearly, it’s not enough time to mourn, yet Irene busies herself with this project since it's been penned in her calendar for nearly a year ago and she needs some income.

To an extent, her counselor is right. The pain from loss doesn’t hurt as much. Irene has stopped feeling guilty for something she can’t control. Nonetheless, it’s hard to cope with the idea of being alone again. Irene knows how to cook her own food and to clean the dishes, but forcing herself to do all these things has been mentally taxing when all she wants to do is curl up in a ball and cry.  

She unbuttons her shirt and shrugs it off. There’s probably a fresh set of pajamas in her closet, but the feeling of Yongsun’s old, plush blanket against her bare skin will ground her.

Irene looks down and smiles at the tattoo on her bicep. The ink was an impulse decision after the three of them landed their first jobs. Time had passed and the shading needed some retouching, but she won’t ever remove the panda or the dragon, even if it had cost her some roles. 

“Why are we getting it on our bicep again?” It’s ironic Chorong whines about it now, considering her tattoo artist is halfway done with the second animal of their piece.

Irene stares at the outline on her own arm. Although she’s pretty committed to the idea, seeing the stencil on her skin intimidated her. Thinking answering her question will rid her cold feet, she responds, “Isn’t it supposed to be the least painful area?” That’s what their tattoo artist advised them.  

Yongsun admires herself in the mirror and flexes her arms. “It’s on my bicep because you two are my strength.” 

Irene rolls her eyes at the corny comment, but smiles. Yongsun initially suggested that they placed their tattoos on the chest, presumably since it’s easy to hide. With that answer, Irene can imagine her actual reasoning is because she keeps them close to her heart. Her friends might be intolerably greasy, but she loved everything about them. 

Another tattoo artist calls Yongsun to the back so they can apply the skin film. With her absence, the room grows quiet, minus the rock music in the background. Considering how tense Chorong looked, Irene knew she should try to distract her.  

“How bad does it hurt?” Maybe she could’ve chosen a different topic, but she knows Chorong will ease up after talking about her feelings.

Chorong exhales and her eyebrows soften. She looks towards Irene and smiles. “It’s not bad, but being stabbed a million times is definitely uncomfortable. 

Irene walks over and grabs Chorong’s other hand. “You’ll get through this.” She looks down at Chorong’s tattoo-in-progress and smiles at the nearly completed dragon and panda. The tattoo artist was starting on the rabbit. “Yong’s dragon is already done!”

Chorong closes her eyes and squeezes Irene’s hand. “I know I will. Pain is just temporary.”

Tears fall down Irene’s cheeks. She’s too exhausted to bawl her eyes out, but she won’t hide the pain. 

Pain is temporary. Irene will be able to move past this. Irene knows that Chorong and Yongsun are still a pillar of strength for her. Nonetheless, she does wish she could be in their arms or hear words of comfort again.   

The positive reinforcement helps Irene’s sleep with less anxiety. The dread of tomorrow feels less intense. 

For now, she’ll seek comfort in the reminder that Chorong and Yongsun will always be with Irene, just like their permanent tattoo memorialized on her skin.
