"You sure you don't want to settle down? Build a house and create stability for yourself and others?" Hm.. Why should I? I mean I love to create that stability for others, but not at the cost of my own authentic expression. And this inner desire to express, manifests currently in a way that looks like moving from place to place, eating lots of different foods, learning how to help increasing numbers of people to feel and express themselves authentically, getting challenged by Indonesian roosters and riding broken motorbikes through insane traffic jams. I have since learned that the quality of my life is measured by the authenticity by which I am living it and how well I take care of my needs and help others meet theirs. That conclusion did NOT just drop into my lap. I had to allow challenges into my life. Such as staying with an incredible women that sometimes triggers the sh*t out of me, but also holds me emotionally accountable and allows me to heal my childhood wounds without judging me for them. And no, I don't support ABA. I only care about individuals. I say forced to discuss for good reason. I don't ever wanna talk about this. I don't want to have to bring out my pain and fear for my community over and over just so people will have a slightly better understanding of why families, of all races, make tough decisions. I really don't want to when it comes to people who look like me. That's because it's so close to home. I have to think back in my rolodex of painful memories I have experienced first-hand as well as my Disabled family members. It does something to have to force those bad experiences to the foreground all of the damn time to show certain advocates the lack of nuance and general understanding is not my misunderstanding how the world is.
