As opposed to the modern day acrylic Pokeball, Pokeballs many years ago were made with Tumblestone and Apricorn. The color combination and extra reinforcing materials used for the Pokeball would determine what it specialized in, and how well it did that.
Take the original Heavy Ball, for instance.
The original Heavy Ball was a much more effective Pokeball, but it was quite heavy, and exceedingly difficult to throw very far. It was most effective when you had snuck up on a Pokemon and managed to get very close. It was made with the standard brown Apricorn, and a black Tumblestone.
What is a brown Apricorn, you ask?
It is the most standard kind of Apricorn, not much found in the wild these days, but the materials from them are still used in the acrylic Pokeballs manufactured today. The brown Apricorn provided no special qualities, but was easy to work with for it's hard shell.
Black Tumblestone, on the other hand, was a very dense variation of the original orange Tumblestone, and provided that strong catch-rate, at the cost of a very heavy Pokeball.

Doodledex - #101-A Hisuian Electrode
It’s kind of funny how Hisuian Electrode kind of switched “temperaments” with Hisiuan Voltorb.... normally Voltorb are the grumpy ones, while Electrode look... well, very smug. Instead, Hisuian Voltorb is very cheerful and friendly, while Hisuian Electrode is, for lack of a better term, fucking pissed. (If you’re not used to me swearing here... well, that was an unspoken rule of these posts that I just chucked out the window. There it goes! It’s gone!)
Meanwhile, the Poke Ball-related mystery thickens with these guys.... the Noble Pokemon I previously mentioned in passing on Hisuian Arcanine’s post are said to be descendants of five of the ancient Pokemon granted blessings by Arceus. This was before Poke Balls were invented.... and yet, there’s a Noble Hisuian Electrode! What the hell is going on here?! (And are we actually going to learn what the hell is going on here? Probably not!)

How Project Dream Ball operates:
Tumblr media
While Pokemon Bank will not be available for download anymore after March 27th, 2023, it will still be usable, and it will also be free to use. This means that Project Dream Ball will still be able to bring forward Pokemon from previous generations into Pokemon Home. Please remember to make sure to download Pokemon Bank to your 3DS/2DS if you haven't already, as you will not be able to download it after the date mentioned above.
Project Dream Ball wants to help trainers obtain Pokemon with ribbons available only through previous gens, and intends to do so via requests. Please understand that these kinds of requests may take time, and may not always be possible. For example, past contest ribbons from Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald and Diamond/Pearl/Platinum are fairly easy to get, but there is a limit to how many may be possible to obtain through gameplay. Meanwhile, ribbons that are obtained through battling may be more difficult to obtain. As far as ribbon requests go, it may be better in some cases to request a specific Pokemon and request a trade instead. Trading online is still possible in gens 4 and 5 using this method. A list of ribbons can be found here. Please keep in mind, not all of these ribbons can be obtained.
Project Dream Ball aims to provide trainers with better access to Pokemon in special Poke Balls, without the use of Action Replay, Powersaves, etc. However, Project Dream Ball will still use fan wifi servers in order to trade Pokemon to trainers who would like to use certain Pokemon in older gens.
While I am not against cheat devices such as Action Replay, Powersaves, etc, Project Dream Ball will not be using these means to generate or edit Pokemon to have any special balls, ribbons, etc. Yes, I do own some of these devices, but I have no intention of using these as I understand that some people find it to be a bit iffy. Furthermore, I do not want to mistakenly generate a Pokemon with a ball or ribbon that it normally would not be able to obtain. I hope that everybody reading this understands. No Pokemon obtained through Project Dream Ball will be generated or edited through any third-party devices.
Project Dream Ball will be launched on March 27th, 2023, as Pokemon Bank will be to free to use then, making the process of transferring Pokemon to later gens far smoother. Until then, feel free to ask questions about Project Dream Ball, or make suggestions. I would also very much appreciate reblogs to help spread awareness of Project Dream Ball, as well as awareness about the news for Pokemon Bank.

I will sound crazier, but the GS Ball, is actually Two! Apricorn's Or its one!
the Gold and Silver Apricorn! (Perhaps one as the GoldSilver Apricorn) but they were imbued with the energy of both the Silver Wing and Rainbow Wing, or by Lugia and Ho-Oh.
The reason why Celebi is summoned to the Shrine in Ilex forest while we placed the GS ball in said shrine. The GS Ball "acts" as a summoning item without the need of a traditional dance for Celebi.
I'm connecting a lot of dots for a stretched theory/idea
but remember Ho-Oh is the Guardian of the Skies, Lugia is the Guardian of the Seas, and Celebi is the Guardian of the Forest.
I'M connecting them together as Celebi is not fully a mediator to the two Legendaries, but how they're titled, I assume that they do not conflict with Celebi.
I know this is anime canon and anime to games don't mix.
The Legendary Beasts seem to interact with a Celebi in the Movies canons. ( I don't know if this is the same case in the Pokemon Specials Pokemon Adventures manga's as I have yet to read up on where this info might be half viable.)
So what I'm theorizing is, the Legendary beasts do seem to check on major area's. the Burned Tower (their home Lugia's partial returning home should it need to return.), the Bell Tower, and rarely visits the Ilex Forest. They're overseeing the guardian's homes should they appear.
Then in this theory, the ancient people who made the GS Ball made it in service of Celebi with the wings and Celebi present to make it as an offer to the Mythical Pokemon's status. the GS ball wasn't meant to capture Celebi, it was to Honor Celebi.
The reason Kurt was interested in its existence is, he's pretty old, he must've heard stories about this particular Apricorn Ball, and never actually seen it until the protagonist shows it to him.
It is because, the ancient people of Hiwada Town or Azalea Town, is next to the Ilex forest, the past people couldn't just walk from Ecruteak City to visit Celebi's shrine if someone told them word of mouth from wandering down to the forest if it was larger.
So they made a town with a most "recent" time hence why one city is older. Goldenrod City was partially the forest. And they don't have rumors around there saying " Hey a long time ago, if you heard a sound or a flash of light in the theory, there's a rumored Pokemon there." No one says anything of the like of Ilex Forest's history. As no one else but the few people spoke word of mouth about Celebi or the GS Ball, it is to make Celebi a mythical pokemon only glimpsed or not enough records about it other than a few witnesses.
And to keep its status, was the people didn't want to introduce it too much, if the Kimono Girls knew about Celebi, they'd also keep it a hush hush secret, no one else but the protagonists and those who are worthy enough are allowed to know about the Johto Mythical Pokemon.
Reminder this is all a theory.

It took me until today to realize that any Pokémon I transfer over from Virtual Console GSC will have their ball changed to a Poké Ball in Bank/HOME when I transfer them over. 🙃
Time to dust off Heart Gold so I can get some 'mons in Sport Balls.

don't want to reblog the post cuz it's so long and the conversation felt like it reached a natural conclusion but just saw one talking about 'traditionally crafted' apricorn balls vs 'mass-produced' poké balls and I wanna point out that with stuff like the cram-o-matic and the item printer there are other ways to make apricorn balls that could theoretically be streamlined to use for mass production
