Where do you get the drive to create?

I love doing it. Making videos gives me joy, doing it for a living is great. I might bitch and moan about my job, but like anyone if I didn't need to make a living I would only do my hobbies. If I didn't have bills to pay I would only make the videos I want to make and drop down to one video every month and a half and they'd probably have higher production value.

As for writing, writing has been a hobby ever since I was stuck in the Wood Street Centre and had little to do but write or read. That's how TotV came about, because I was in a very bad place and wanted to get out all my frustrations with life itself.

And I love doing it. I'm not very good at it but it doesn't matter. I enjoy writing stories. I enjoy writing about the things I'm feeling and have been ruminating on. That's how Madhouse went from silly pokemon comic to Lily Unpacks Her Trauma, But Now With Added Celery Friend. How TSR went from "The Sequel Trilogy, but Sith Wife" to "Let's unpack the grief and bitter cynicism inherent to a stolen childhood."

I've made a lot of characters over the years, but I've never made characters entirely off a design, or a trope. Every character I have ever made has been lovingly crafted. I love every single one of them. Even the silly, one-note characters. You can tell when I've made a character because someone else asked me to, versus when I've made a character for me.

Take Lacey for example. She was made on request, hence why she hasn't appeared since. I had no ideas for her, and I made her because a viewer wanted to see a plus sized girl that was seen as beautiful without being derided as "thick." I did it, and they loved it, and that was it.

Conversely, I don't think anyone has seen me adore a character as much as I adore Alie. Despite having tons of feedback and taking in a lot of different perspectives when making her, I made her for me first and foremost. She was the culmination of everything I had ever wanted to see in a Star Wars character since I was twelve years old playing KOTOR for the first time.

My last few stories have also used prejudice as a common theme. Horde Champion has the undercurrent of elven misogyny. TSR has the undertone of white supremacy in the First Order, but also the overtones of religious discrimination and cultural genocide with the Sith and classism with the people of the Outer Rim. My theoretical Harry Potter rewrite has bantered around the themes of love of the marginalized as a driving force of equality.

And the reason for that... is because that's what most of the books I've been reading the last six years are about.

The drive to create comes from having strong feelings about things and wanting to express them I guess.

I KNOW RIGHT HE'S SO CUTE??? But yeah, I do have some thoughts about him!

Theo gives me the vibes of someone who knows a lot of random facts about random topics because he picked them up somewhere and just never forgot them, no matter how unimportant they actually are. So sometimes in conversations he throws in random facts that nobody needs but he's not annoying with it either.

I can't explain why, but I just feel like he's into Nintendo games, mainly Pokemon and The Legend of Zelda. He's stayed awake way too long on school nights and nights before matches because he wanted to watch Nintendo directs live and because of timezones they just happened to be at 1am or even 2am, then he had to get up at 6am.

As long as you can look back, all past generations of his family have been from Germany. But his best friends in Bastard München are Mensah, Ali and Ndiaye. I looked up the origins of their surnames, and they originate from Ghana (Mensah), Arabian countries (Ali) and West Africa (Ndiaye) so they like to make jokes about Theo being the only completely German one in the group. He enjoys learning about their cultures, though! He's a bit hesitant about trying their food (he's not a picky eater, just a bit afraid of trying new food) but occasionally his friends get him to try something new (which he most of the time enjoys)

Also, Theo is a left sideback, Mensah a centerback, Ndiaye a right sideback and Ali a defensive midfielder so I imagine their friendship started because they are close to each other on the field.

Theo brought his Nintendo Switch to Blue Lock, so he has a Mario Kart competition with Mensah, Ali and Ndiaye every other night. Theo is usually the winner, but one time Hiori heard they were playing Mario Kart and asked to join in, then he ended up being in first place which Theo will never recover from.

My Review of Ascendance of a Bookworm

Okay, time to hit up another isekai. After watching a heart-wrenching anime like 86, I need something light-hearted to watch. No…I’m not reviewing 86. Sorry. Okay, let’s get to it!

This is Myne. But not really! You see, Myne was once a librarian named Urano Motosu with a love for reading books. But an earthquake struck and she was crushed by a mountain of books. With her last breath, she wished she could be reincarnated again and read more books with her new life. Now she is reborn in a frail five-year old named Myne. Myne is in a new world, new time, and with a new family. Only thing is, she cannot obtain a single book. Books are hard to come by, especially if you aren’t a noble. And in Myne’s case, she’s at peasant level. Even materials for writing are hard to obtain.

Before one can walk, one must crawl. Myne will go through a lot in order to preserve stories on the printed page. Will this bookworm survive without reading?

BETWEEN THE SUB AND THE DUB: This one strictly belonged to Crunchyroll and the dub was filled with a lot of people I don’t think I ever heard from before this. So, hearing many of these folks is kinda a new experience for me since I decided to watch the entire thing dubbed. My experience with it was okay until I hit season three. I felt a little thrown off with the pronunciation of one of the characters. Myne’s mother Effa. We clearly hear her name being pronounced as “Eva” in the first 2 seasons. Now all of a sudden, they’re changing her name’s pronunciation. Okay, sure. Why not?! Here’s what you might recognize these folks from.

DISLIKED CHARACTER: I think it goes without saying that I hate that high priest with a holy passion. After his unsavory debut in the first season, I wished he could have died from his injuries when Myne’s mana went haywire. Sadly, he’s still around. And whenever he shows up, nothing good can come from it. He’s the reason why Myne wound up with disrespectful retainers when she started her apprenticeship at the church. I know the high priest is the go-to punching bag for most people. I am inclined to agree. It’s mostly a bias I have against certain individuals that claim to be a servant to the lord and do shady-ass shit. Yeah, he’s right up there with the Catholic Church, Mike Pence, and Judge Claude Frollo. He’s that bad!

I would have let certain things slide in season two like giving Myne unruly retainers or petty vandalism in the library. But then season three happened and there’s just no forgiveness for what this fat fuck did. I’m just happy he’s finally going to get some much-needed comeuppance.

SHIPPING: Myne x Lutz.

*sigh* I know it’ll never happen for many, many spoilery reasons. And I know it wasn’t canon or official or anything like that. I just want to enjoy their moments in season one and somehow ignore what happens at the end of season three.

AN ANNOYANCE: At the end of each episode, there’s like a chibi/4-panel style short that airs. I wouldn’t call it a preview for the next episode as there is never any mention of what happens next. It’s just random fluff. That doesn’t bother me all that much. Yes, I realize the first season had Ferdinand shown in those moments and we were never properly introduced to this character until like 10 episodes in. What bothered me the most came during the third season. There was one of these segments where Gunther and Myne were talking and he brings up that Myne’s mother had several miscarriages prior to having Tuuli and Myne. Okay, I feel like this sort of thing could have been said during the episode and not put in the passing fancy with the end of the episode LOL fluff. That’s my take on that matter.

END OF SEASON ONE: Throughout this season, Myne has been creating certain items and catching the eye of several key people. Semi-nobles like Frieda and her family have caught wind of Myne’s hair accessories. And a gentleman by the name of Mr. Benno decides to give Myne a chance with items she creates (for the right price). Unfortunately, there’s only so much Myne can do in so much time. Myne has been sick from day one and when really sick, she’ll spend days or even weeks in bed. Mr. Benno seems to think that she has mana (that is only reserved for nobles) and it’s eating her from the inside until she dies. It’s called “the devouring”. Meanwhile, Lutz has been becoming suspicious of Myne. It’s been bugging him for quite a while, but he finally confronted her. Without letting him know about her past life, she does reveal to him that she’s not really Myne and was only Myne for over a year now. Thankfully, Lutz accepted this fact and continues to help Myne pursue her dream and current ambitions.

Myne has been revolutionizing the world she’s living in with products she was able to easily make like hair shampoo, cute hair accessories, and even sweet treats. She did sell those invention ideas, but was able to keep some for her own. On top of which, she’s inching closer and closer to getting her paper goods to be successful. It’s just that her sickness (the devouring) is getting worse and worse. Her friend Frieda was able to suppress one of her attacks one night with the use of a magical item. It’s temporary, but it helped prevent something tragic from happening this time. There’s no guarantee for next time though.

With the way things are, Myne only has one year at most to live. It was a lucky break that Myne was able to get an item because her friend is semi-royal. Unfortunately, all Frieda gets are knock-offs because she isn’t really a noble. But that can all change once her coming of age ceremony comes and becomes a concubine for a noble. Myne’s coming of age ceremony is coming up and being married off to a noble might be her one solution to surviving the devouring. For now, Myne just wants to stay with her parents and if there’s time, set up her paper-making studio with Lutz and Mr. Benno.

The day finally came for Myne to have her coming of age ceremony. At the church, Myne got intrigued by all of the ancient books, scrolls, etc. We also meet Ferdinand outside of the preview setting. He is the head priest of this church. Myne was ready to jump ship and join the church just because they had many books. Let’s just say nearly everyone in Myne’s inner circle objected to that tenfold. Her employer Mr. Benno hates to lose Myne to anyone, especially to the church. And Myne’s parents worry that being in the church can be detrimental to her health since she couldn’t live at home anymore and won’t get a steady income since only nobles in blue robes obtain that and everyone else is just a gray orphan.

Things get a little more complicated when the church learned of Myne’s devouring disease and wanted her even more. Myne is full of overflowing mana and this is something the church wants. This could work to Myne’s advantage if she gets the church to agree to her own terms. Mr. Benno told her to prioritize letting her continue with her studio works, live with her parents, and help with her health. Meeting the high priest of the church went really bad. He didn’t like the fact that Myne’s parents were not of nobility and threatened to take Myne from them by force. This led to Myne’s father beating up church guards. And then Myne went demon-possessed on them all!

Throughout this season, there were moments when Myne’s eyes would go rainbow and has this anger aura surrounding her. This would usually occur when she would get really upset or angry, like in the early episodes and she would try to make clay tablets and they got destroyed. This of course is because of the devouring. Her mana is overflowing and controlling her body. This time, this power affected the high priest by almost killing him. Ferdinand helped calm Myne down and de-escalated the situation that just went down. He agreed to all of Myne’s terms and agreements. In return, Myne will become an apprentice priestess at the cathedral. She will dawn the blue robes meant only for nobles and when she’s not doing that, she will continue to help Mr. Benno. And best of all, she could stay with her family.

Ferdinand will be there quite a bit to keep Myne in check at every moment. Especially, when she gets angry and her mana goes berserk. Because if she harms any higher-up like when she attacked the high priest, dire consequences will be passed down to Myne. But that’ll be a matter for another section of this review.

SIDE STORY: There were two short stories that were aired a month before the second season’s debut. One story was revolved around one of Ferdinand’s men from the church to spy and learn about Myne from the townspeople. The other was Myne, her sister Tulli and mother Eva visiting the fabric maker Corinna.

SEASON TWO: Myne is officially an apprentice priestess. Unfortunately, things in the church might serve to be difficult for her. The high priest has it out for her and is willing to make her life a living hell. This includes giving her retainers (Delia and Gil) that give her nothing but grief. Not just him, but everyone (excluding Ferdinand) hating on Myne because she’s not a noble, but is wearing noble clothing. Let’s just say they’re not fond that a little girl like her got to surpass many of them.

On the positive, part of her job is to read over the royal scripture. A book is a book, I guess. At least Myne made it to a point where she got her hands on the printed word, no matter what it is. Myne does get the idea to make children books during this season. Because her mother is going to have a baby in the coming months, Myne wanted to make children books with the paper goods she’s been making.

END OF SEASON TWO: Myne has to step up her game at the church to prove that she is truly worthy to wear the blue robes despite being a peasant. For starters, she has to prepare for some upcoming events that’ll require her attendance and assistance. Unfortunately, that means Myne will have to stay at the church during the duration of the winter season. That does cause a bit of a hiccup as Myne’s father is fully against it and Myne kinda wanted to stay at home a little more to help out her pregnant mother.

Myne ends up assisting Ferdinand with a mission against some out of control trombe. As demonstrated in earlier episodes, trombe can be dangerous if not controlled and cut down. Such a dangerous entity, but useful in Myne’s mission to making paper goods. This trombe however caused more trouble than normal for Myne. This time it wasn’t her fault in a sense. One of the guards Ferdinand assigned to keep Myne safe was a real shit-head and put Myne’s life in danger and lied about it. This guy put the fact that Myne’s a peasant over Ferdinand’s order. Yeah, he’s in trouble. And then Myne showed him up with the amount of mana she possesses for someone like her. After all of that, we kind of get this scene that I wondered about since I started this series.

This scene was the very first scene from the first episode of the series. Myne with something on her head and Ferdinand going to find out things once and for all. And that’s exactly it, they’re linking minds with magical items so that Ferdinand can lay his worries and fears about Myne to rest. Ferdinand got a first-hand look at what a library looks like in modern-day Japan. Myne got to see her old adult self before she died. And also, Myne almost had a breakdown after seeing her mother and wanting to say goodbye but never got the chance. That scene was pretty rough to watch, along with her hugging Ferdinand. That’s why Myne decides now to say how thankful she is for this family. Gunther, Eva, and Tuuli aren’t the family she knew back before Myne came to this world, but she’s happy for them.

Oh, and we get a scene of Ferdinand and Karstedt discussing Myne and planning to have her be adopted by a noble. Okay, that’ll be a story for season three.

SEASON THREE: Things take a bit of a violent turn in the first episode. In the previous season, Myne was seen asking about alternate inks for the book she wanted to make. The ink guild saw the book and got serious. They came to Benno’s shop and were very scary. And then, these ruffians assaulted Lutz in the street. It is now best that Myne have her winter stay at the church happen now. Meanwhile, it looks as though one of her own retainers can’t be trusted…AGAIN! It’s Delia. Of course, it’s Delia. Gil’s on Team Myne and its going to stay that way. Delia on the other hand is an informant for the high priest.

Myne’s life is about to get a little worrisome. Ferdinand told her that he thinks that Karstedt should adopt her and it was met with harsh rejection from Myne. Ferdinand decided it is best that at age 10 she be adopted by a noble. And at that age if she isn’t under the care of a noble, she will be at risk due to her amount of mana and everything she’s done up to this point.

ENDING: This season we’ve seen the good and the bad. I’ll start with the good. The book that Myne came up with was finally done. She had a lot of help from her retainers, the children from the orphanage, and other allies in the church. Myne was able to spend some quality time with her family as this may be the last years she can be with them. Along with that, the birth of her baby brother Kamil was worth celebrating. But then we delve into the seriousness here when an orphaned baby comes to the church and has the devouring disease like Myne, things take quite the turn for the worst. The high priest is at it again really causing trouble for Myne and just being an all-around fat dick. The high priest invited a noble man to take the baby and use him as a servant. Then, force Myne into a contract.

This plan led to Myne almost being kidnapped, Tulli almost being killed, Delia being deceived, Gunther and Fran injured, and an all-around magic showdown at the church. Myne went into berserk mode when her friends and father were injured by the high priest and this dick-head noble that wants to use Myne’s mana for his selfish wants. It wasn’t until Ferdinand came in the room that things settled. Unfortunately, Myne assaulted the high priest and a noble. They overlooked that crime at the end of season one when her mana caused her to go berserk. This time, Myne, Gunther, Fran, and the rest were to receive punishment for this. But a twist arose.

During this season, Myne met a man named Sylvester. He’s a bit eccentric and can be a bit of a headache. But he gave Myne a charm to form a blood seal if she were to come into trouble. What she didn’t know was that this blood seal was to form a contract with Sylvester. This means instead of being adopted by Karstedt in two years, Myne is to be adopted by Sylvester right now. If this happens, Myne and everyone else will avoid punishment because her status as Sylvester’s daughter will surpass that of the high priest and dick-head noble. Myne agrees. Add to the surprises, Sylvester is the lord of the land, the nephew to the high priest, and half-brother to Ferdinand. Sylvester laid down some much-needed punishment here as that shady noble was to be incarcerated and the high priest got the death sentence for harming Myne.

Sylvester made it official, but with some unfortunate terms. Myne is to be adopted by Sylvester. She will be a noble officially. However, she is to give up her name and her family. She will no longer be known as Myne and the commoner known as Myne will be legally dead. She may never again be with her father, mother, sister, and brother again. If they were to see Myne, they must treat her like a noble and not like a part of the family. Myne’s company and work will continue as paper goods and books are necessary. Myne will now and forever be known as Rozemyne. Rozemyne swears that she will protect those she loves and gives them a special blessing before bidding them goodbye.

This is the end of Myne’s tale as you see with her tombstone. But Rozemyne’s story is just beginning.

We just don’t know because nothing has been green-lit as of yet. But we got a “To Be Continued” at the end. That’s hopeful!

Oh, I loved this anime. I think this was one of my favorite Isekais to come as of recent. Probably up there with Mushoku Tensei and Re:Zero.

I’m going to go off a bit on something I was pondering about for a long time and how I feel about it. This mostly has to do with the story itself and not the anime at all. During season two, I got curious and read some spoilers. Once I finished season two, I really got upset that Myne was to be adopted by nobles and have all communication from her family cut off. The reason behind me being so upset is because at the end of season two, we got that sad scene where Myne is back in her modern world in her original body and her wanting to say something to her mother before she dies. So, learning about Myne’s separation from Gunther and Effa made me really upset. Myne was distraught remembering her mother in the previous life and swore to always say that she loved Effa. But now that I sat through season three, am I still upset by the circumstances? Hell yeah. But I understand that there really was no happy outcome where all parties could be satisfied. Myne was still going to be adopted whether now or in two years like originally planned.

Never mind me prattling on about this crap about adoption. This has been a fun watch and an educational one too. Isekais can get creative with new languages, items, and customs. I always enjoy learning about new worlds in anime. But not just that, I learn something new when Myne brings up something invented in her original world. We learn something new every day. By the looks of things, the light novel is still in publication, so I expect to see more content with Rozemyne and her continuing ambitions surrounding the printed word. Anyways, full recommendation from me!

I love the polys relationships when are good written, but i have a question, the polydex are normal in your pokemon world? is for curiosity and Scarnoa is talking a mexican spanish and that is why is different then the spain/palden spanish? i can going laugh really loud for that

The polydex is in fact normal, though do expect some people to be backwards about it (especially if they're jealous about it). Think of it in the way that there are some people who refuse to accept the confirmed research that children CAN actually understand Pokemon for the first few years of their lives.

There will always be assholes, after all, but usually, everyone is pretty damn accepting. :V

Ah, suppose that’s fair. Idk I always get so distracted and then it takes me forever to finish the story, especially with all the exploration, so guess that’s why it feels longer for me

But!!! Yes yes!! I am absolutely gonna tell ya about the session!!

Okay so we started out and the prince decided, yknow what screw this and pulled out his blowgun and was gonna attack us, we’re still in the Inn in his and Kacis room. Alister goes to tackle him since we can’t really beat em up, I absolutely fail the roll so Alister trips on their wayyyy to long cloak, and I decide aw heck it and now Ali has just decided to give up and lay on the floor unless they become needed again

Prince goes shoots his dart, absolutely fails and misses completely

Kaci being the noble who does not wanna beat up the prince is like ‘ayy can’t we just talk it out? No need to fight cmon’ absolutely rizzes our guy and persuaded him to not try and hit Kaci and Ali but still has absolutely no trust in Ray which is completely understandable, he is Ray and also almost accidentally killed em whoops,

So now it’s Rays turn and seeing as the situation has deescalated, decides to tell him he doesn’t care and won’t actually go beat em up as long as he doesn’t do anything, like yknow, try and hit em with darts again

Prince is like fineee gives Kaci the dart gun and now Kaci and the prince have to get ready since they’ve not actually gotten ready yet. Ray decides to go downstairs for breakfast, picks up Ali who is still on the floor in their lil ball of cloak, and they go to breakfast

Kaci and the prince get ready and Kaci like the nerd he is decides to change his clothes in his sleeping bag and once hes done the prince has been done for awhile so they also head down to breakfast

Ray has eggs absolutely coated in pepper, he got them Emo eggs, Ali had toast, they also just look at the eggs and sneeze, like ray my dude that’s wayyy too much pepper. Kaci and the prince come down. Kaci also gets toast looks at rays eggs and sneezes. Prince decided he was good. Ray asks why he decided to run away, prince says he can’t answer here but he will when they leave town

They leave town to go return the prince to the castle. We get some lore dump. Turns out when the prince was lil his parents had him and his sister fight to the death for who will be heir to the kingdom. So yep my guy Richard killed his sister and he decided years later to run away because he didn’t want to rule. We also get some Kaci lore cause apparently his friend and their twin were also made to fight to the death and his friend killed his twin but couldn’t handle the guilt so he also died.

Also this is mentioned oh so incredibly casually, like we all got traumatic backstories and we all like yeah it happened or whatever

So yeah Ray was like okay fair, and went and kinda laid out the princes options. He either be a coward and run away or return and do nothing, or he could actually do something upon his return and if he wants they’ll even help him cause he doesn’t really want these psychos running the kingdom either

The prince is still incredibly unsure of even trying to do anything, while Ray is just like well these are the options, but Kaci doesn’t like how it feels like Ray is pressuring the prince and how Ray doesn’t understand what it’s like to be a noble or the situation

Anyway it ends up with Kaci and Ray having an absolutely heated fight, with both the characters and actual players getting genuinely mad for their point and I’m barely understanding and getting overwhelmed from the fight, so imagine Alister who genuinely understands like none of this

Eventually Ray is just done and is like fine I’ll just leave then and he starts walking away and Kaci is like fine and starts walking the other way telling Ali to follow and Alister is just left in the middle so so confused and conflicted and overwhelmed.

DM asks what Ali does and I decided the best course of action is to sit down in a ball and scream.

Kaci feels bad now and stops, Ray stops for a moment then keeps walking. Ray walks behind a tree and DM asks them to roll a D4, they roll a one and now Ray is Rhea. Personality/character swap time! We have not met Rhea yet so she just came out from behind the tree incredibly confused.

She sees Ali comes over and asks if they’re okay(which they are very much not) Alister just goes and cuddles into them, Rhea just picks em up while comforting them and basically being like welp idk where I am mind if I join? And so now we’ve got sweet baby girl Rhea

So they stop for a quick break so Ali can calm down. Kaci apologizes for letting things get so out of hand especially since they know Ali wouldn’t have understood any of it and really only heard the screaming.

They all chill out when Rhea starts a braid train, or more like hair doing/fixing train since it’s really only Kaci getting their hair rebraided, Ali getting the excess plant life out of their hair and it just fixed up a bit and the prince also getting their hair fixed a bit.

Kaci asks if they’re ready to go, Ali walks a bit away screams, comes back and says their good to go and off they head.

Rhea absolutely ships Kaci and the prince and so they go and walk farther ahead with Ali so the prince and Kaci can talk(Rhea does not know he is the prince)

Prince is annoyed that Kaci cannot properly clean their glasses so cleans em for em. Kaci accidentally fizzes the prince and they just kinda chat about life and stuff. Ali and Rhea just chatting meanwhile

Eventually Rhea sees a sparkle, goes over to investigate and finds a lake! Good timing since it’s starting to get late and they need to set up camp. Rest of the group comes over, Kaci falls down the hill to the lake whoops, sets up a fire and stuff. Alister is incredibly suspicious of the safety of this location as this is definitely the biggest source of water they’ve ever seen and most Underdark water sources are heavily guarded. Rhea just kinda plays around as well as sets up more of camp as well. Prince pulls out a lute, Ali has now seen/heard an instrument and is amazed yet still alert cause suspicious. Lil dance party ensues. Everyone gets ready to head in for the night basically when everyone with dark vision(aka everyone but Rhea) sees a large ripple/wave coming from the lake and that something is coming towards them. And that is where we finished last!(sorry that was long these are like 3+ish hour sessions)

And also right after we finished and all left and that I realized that Alister does NOT know how to swim, paddle, or even really how to stay afloat whatsoever. They have never been/seen a large/deep enough water source to ever even really try…. So this could go incredibly bad lol haha ^^''

Ten Characters, Ten Fandoms, Ten Tags

Big thanks to @chrisoels & @fallingforfandoms for the tag 😊.

I'm still having fun with the Writing Ask game (so if anyone wants to ask something please feel free to 😊) but happy to put this one in as well 🙂.

I have to admit though, I did have some struggles to come up with 10 characters/fandoms. I might still not be 100 % satisfied with my choices here 🙈.

And then I noticed I only choose 10 female characters, wooopsi?? 🤭😅🙈

In some fandoms, I will add a couple just because I can and I love them so much 😊.

1. Julia Grosz / Tatort Hamburg

I need to start with the one character that got me back into writing that I have not done for so many years in the first place. And even had the courage to post it online and share it. Julia Grosz, absolutely brilliantly portrayed by phenomenal Franziska Weisz 🥰. Strong, smart, beautiful, funny in her own way, troubled by her past, but not broken, found a friend to trust in again with her partner and finding her way back into life. So maybe "Last Chance" is a bit of a tribute to her character.

2. Sofia Curtis / CSI

A very close number two, because her character was possible the first tv crush of mine. And, like with Tatort, we just never really got to see much of her personal life. A character so sadly wasted beyond what could have been shown. But that seems to be the story of my life really in terms of favourite tv or movie characters.

3. Claire Redfield / Resident Evil

Okay so I'm not really a gamer and I know the Anderson Resident Evil movies were, huh, crap. Crappy crap. But I will out myself here: In some crazy way, I did like them. At least the first one and the ones that Claire Redfield was in. A true leader that was not born into this role but took it upon herself and because of exactly that, became the strong leader the last remaining humans needed in the apocalypse. To me, Ali Larter will be the one and only Claire Redfield for me, I just can't help it. What the movies completely missed though, was to make Claire and Alice Abernathy the absolute canon power couple in their movies 😎😏. AND THAT was their biggest mistake in my eyes. I liked their friendship, but I would have loved to see them as a couple much more. And I'm sure I'm not the only one 😎.

4. Sansa Stark / Game of Thrones

The little girl that was so annoying at the beginning, went through so much horror in her life, but never let herself break under these circumstances and rose to become one of the strong-minded and powerful woman in Westeros without a dragon at her side. The true Queen of the North ❣️

5. Rika Nonaka/ Digimon Tamers

Okay so I was a kid, I loved that anime (even more than Pokemon) and even then I already might had a crush on a (fictional) girl character ... 🤭😊😅

6. Tasha Dexter / V.I.P.

I just seem to have a soft spot for tough women with a soft heart that they are not showing, at least not at first sight. I really loved her character and enjoyed her bickering with Valery Irons and the rest of her colleagues. That show was pure comedy gold and had some very nice action.

7. Franziska "Franzi" Jung / Notruf Hafenkante

I just really like that German crime show since the beginning in 2007 😱. Gosh, I'm getting old ... 😅 A very lovely character I just enjoy watching. And it also plays in Hamburg. Huh, that screams after a fanfiction crossover with Tatort Hamburg ... 😏🙈😅

8. Lexa / The 100

A bittersweet one. Lexa was such a powerful conflicted yet loving character. Back in the good seasons, before it went to hell after episode 3x07. I knew what was coming but it still hurt me, even made me angry, big times. The 100 could have been special, could have been so much more. But what they did was to destroy my belief in tv shows, my interest in those. My fun to get invested into any show, or movie or characters for years. Until I saw Tatort and the character Julia Grosz again.

9. Dani Ferrington / The Fall

If you want a colleague loyal at your side I would choose her. Compassionate, down to earth, heart at the right place and yes, having a lady crush on the leading woman. Honestly, I can't imagine anyone not liking Dani Ferrington.

10. Sara Lance / Arrow/Legends of Tomorrow

A true ninja girl and that really picked my interest. She has those insane fight scenes that I just love.

And another character that I would like to add just because I would have liked to see more of her but another character that was sacked way too soon and for eeally Bad reasons I get furios over still yet: Leslie Shay / Chicago Fire. Would have liked the idea of her and her colleague Allison Rafferty to become a couple but another one of those wasted tv chances.

I don't really know enough people here on Tumblr and have much followers to tag ten 😅🤣🙈 .

Gaelic Football and Guinness

Hi everyone! I’m back after another lively week in Ireland. Our physics classes ended this week which is great because all we really have to do now is study for the final exam and go to a few more history lectures. Outside of classes, this week has been quite intriguing. To begin the week, we took another trip down to the beach where we played some more cards and downed a few ciders. The next day, we visited Croke Park as a part of our history program where we learned about Irish sports and the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). In the following few days, we took advantage of the marvelous weather and played tons of basketball and Pokemon Go. I was also able to mix in a few workouts at one of the gyms on campus which was refreshing because I haven't consistently gone to the gym in ages. On Friday night, we watched a movie in one of the student lounges before watching clips of Gaelic football on Youtube. We returned to Croke Park the next day to watch two extremely entertaining Gaelic football matches. To finish off the week, we went on a leisurely tour of the Guinness Storehouse before heading back to the dorms to rest up for our trip to Belfast on Monday.

On Tuesday’s field trip we were able to walk through almost all of the stadium as a part of our guided tour. We began by watching a quick video about the history of Croke Park and the GAA before heading into the service tunnels that led to the team locker rooms. The stadium has four identical locker rooms that allow for multiple matches in one day as well as a player’s lounge where all the players go to relax after their games. Inside the player’s lounge is an enormous chandelier composed of 32 Gaelic football to represent each county in Ireland and 70 sliotars to represent the number of minutes in football and hurling matches.

After seeing the player’s lounge and locker rooms, we made our way onto the field and into the stands where they let us hold replicas of the football and hurling trophies. Our tour guide also gave us a brief history of some of the famous events that have taken place at Croke Park such as Bloody Sunday in 1920, the Special Olympics in 2003, and the Muhammad Ali boxing match in 1972.

After the tour, my group of friends decided that we had to experience an actual Gaelic football match so we bought tickets for two games on Saturday. The first game was a blowout as Derry stomped out Clare. The next game was quite close and a lot more entertaining with Dublin eventually pulling away from Cork in the second half. There were also a lot more fans for the Dublin vs Cork game which makes sense because those are two of the biggest counties in Ireland. The burgers that I bought at the stadium were surprisingly decent and I was also able to find a cool hat that I ended up buying. Overall, the whole experience was a ton of fun and I would definitely recommend visiting Croke Park if you’re ever in Ireland.

The Guinness Storehouse

Our tour of the Guinness Storehouse was completely self-paced and was a lot more interesting than I expected. We started the tour on the ground floor where we learned a little bit about Arthur Guinness and how he signed a 9,000 year lease for the St. James Brewery in 1759. Then, we learned about all of the ingredients that go into a Guinness and the entire brewing process on the next few floors of the storehouse. One of the floors had a cafe where I ordered a Guinness mocha as well as a chocolate muffin. The Guinness mocha was delicious and tasted exactly how it sounds: a mocha with a tinge of the iconic Guinness flavor. The muffin was also extremely delicious. The next part of our tour was a Guinness tasting experience that began in an aroma room. The aroma room was a completely white room with four pillars that emitted four of the main aromas associated with brewing Guinness. Also inside the aroma room was a bar where they poured everyone a shot glass of Guinness that we took into the next room for the guided tasting experience.

After the tasting experience, we went up to the next floor where we had our pictures taken and printed onto a pint of Guinness!

Our tour ended at the Gravity Bar which is on the top floor of the storhouse and boasts an incredible view of the city. At the bar we redeemed our drink vouchers and enjoyed our second pints of the day. To be honest, every Guinness that I’ve had has been more and more tolerable regarding the taste. I’m not sure if it’s just an acquired taste or if I was just getting buzzed since I barely ate anything all day.

After finishing our pints, we returned to the gift shop on the ground floor and made a decent number of solid purchases before heading back to UCD.

Daddy Issues Gone Biking

He never fails to bash me in the same manner that he lets me “bask” in the sun, the rain, the dark and the light.  Over the years, my dad and I have had major issues which revolve around his ultraelctromagnetic bash. I’ve been severely bruised as I find reasons about what lies beneath every really low blow.  When mother dragon died, there’s no way, but to give dad and I a chance. Never did I expect that this would actually come to life in 4D. You see, dad and I are alike and too different at the same time. What caused this plot twist may be because he is off to old age and I am off to make my mother dragon proud and myself, too.  Hello, vulnerability!  Hello, daddy!  In our family ILY is like a rare Pokemon, almost non-existent, almost a sin. I guess that’s something boomer parents are known for. Is it a flaw? Perhaps. Or is it but a product of their tough younger years when they had to work hard instead of playing hard and going home?  Since his birthday is next week, let me count some ways as to how he ILY me without saying it out loud. Really early mornings like this one make me more centered and as Ricky Lee says many times, write when the world is asleep. So, here’s me, trying.  Dad is utterly conservative but he lets all my fits go. I remember one time when we went biking and said that why on earth am I wearing that particular outfit. I asked what’s wrong with a well-fitting workout pants that hides my paunch, a basic sando that’s so presko (actually, corset dapat ‘yun nung Ivy Park kaso ang init) + sports bra with full support for my saks lang boobies  and my red wine kicks? He said that I look OK but I will likely be distracting the riders along the way. I calmed him saying that I will wear my jacket and to which he said na nag-effort pa raw akong mag-jacket e parehas lang din naman. I don’t get what he meant because I look super basic. Actually, most of the clothes I use are from my yoga and boxing sessions. Works really well since pawisin talaga ako plus maayos gumalaw. Hindi constricting. ‘Yun lang talaga. Periodt. 

It was a sweltering Saturday and I don’t like the usual biker girl outfits. Why? One, I don’t race nor train. Two, the designs of biker girls’ outfits are direct translations of the men’s attire. Heck, even the padded biking shorts have been causing a lot of women uncalled for hirits ng mga bastos sa daan, right? Sadly, malayo pa ang papadyakin ng women biker’s lalo na solo women bikers sa Pinas. UGH. But, lalaban tayo. Roads are meant to be shared, not to be taken over by men who have two heads and are on the prowl unapologetically. 

Dad gave in and said BAHALA KA. IKAW ‘YAN E. And then he continued that he does not mean that I am the problem, the world is the problem. I said na I am not considered chix naman bilang ang laki ng balakang ko plus ‘di ako kakinisan. Dad retorted na laman-tiyan din ako. LOKO, MEN. I cannot. Dad, kalma. Biking attire lang ‘to. Also, super pabebe ride lang ‘to sa South plus I am getting a tan then and because I can’t go outside Manila that much, biking is my salvation. So off we go to the roads at around noon time. Since it’s much like a dead hour, not a lot of bikers can be seen.  Bike. Bike. Bike. And then a group of men around my age, nodded and smiled. I smiled back and nodded a little. Dad said out loud na mababali na leeg nung mga ‘yun. Dad, jusq. Please. Nasa South tayo. Safe dito. A few more kilometers up and down the road, we came across teenage bikers, all men as usual. They were on the other side of the biking lane. They waved and said good afternoon then took a turn to ride with us. Dad peddled faster than usual and I had no choice but to peddle at his pace pero syempre, hindi natin kaya ‘yun. When the teenage boys kept up, dad shouted, huy, anak ko ‘to. Alis. FUCK. The teenage boys hit their breaks. Dad looked back at me, and said, ‘yan kasi. Buti kasama mo ako. I said na dad, bakit parang kasalanan ko? He stomped his way and parked. He took his water flask and chugged iced heaven. Tumaas na naman yata BP. He said na next time, kahit mainit, mag-jacket ako.  I said na I am wearing jacket ‘pag malamig. Natawa siya. Natawa rin ako. Major patola kasi. Ano bang masama sa nod, smile and wave, sa truth lungs? Then he said, ‘di nila alam ang sungit mo na, tapang mo pa. FAKE NEWS KA. HAHAHAHAHA.  Funny how my dad allows me to go on solo trips with my bike. And he barely aks me how my bike rides went without him. LOL. Labo niya noh? 

So far, all good, even when I’m covered up or my basic biking fit lang. Nasa tao kasi talaga ‘yan. Kung gago ang tao, harassment in all forms will happen. If clothes are the basis of being harassed by men, e ‘di sana safe ‘yung mga lady bikers na naka-proper biking attire ‘di ba? Even zipped up biking tops and naka-pants na medyo loose na, may gago pa rin, so I won’t adjust. 

Actually, I rarely check out men when I ride. Mas napapa-chic hunt pa ako or nababali-leeg sa bikes mismo na goods sa vibe ko. Sarap makakita ng cutie lady bikers, tbh. Lalo ‘yung mga nagaaral pa lang. Lalo ‘pag solo not because I want to hit on them, pero it makes see na dumadami na ang mga babae sa daang puno ng mga lalaki --both oks and not too oks, no agenda whatsoever. Biking is an alpha and alpha male kuno world so, with every padyak, I am shattering silos in my unapologetic style and dark humor. Jusq. 

___ A few years back, I gifted dad with a mini biking haul. It so happened that I was part of Rudy Project’s Uptown opening. Overflowing ng good deals that time so, medyo naparami po ang naiuwi. When dad opened all boxes and ripped the packaging open, he stopped. Asan daw ‘yung akin. Wala pa rin kasi akong helmet until now na matino. I said na since I don’t ride as much naman, ‘di ko kelangan. Parang tanga raw ako. Sana ‘di ko na lang daw siya binilhan. Butt-hurt na naman ako pero sabi ko, tigilan niya ako. He even bashed the transition lens I got him. Mhie, nakakalumpo kahit sale for me. I said na I noticed that he has two pairs with him every time and that for night rides, ang panget nung Oakley niya which he had replaced with clear lens. LOL. Told him to break in the pair of sunnies I got him muna bago siya magreklamo. Puwede rin namang ibalik, so ‘wag siyang kontrabulate. A few days after, he said, bongga raw pala ‘yung transition. HAHAHAHAHA. I joked na puwede pa naman nga ibalik kasi baka naabala siya. He then pleaded na I get my own biking gears, on him pa raw. I said, ayoko. Tigilan na niya ako. Gusto raw kasi niya twinning kami and I said, pagkakamalan na naman kaming mag-jowa tapos sugar baby na naman ang tingin sa akin.  ___ Another ILY without ILY moments with dad is whenever I make a career move. Since I started quite late, I really have to wing things and not cut corners while at it. Pride as always is at the core.  In a good number of interviews I’ve done during the WFH szn, dad has been listening a little too close to some of them. Actually, I try to schedule interviews when he is not home; but a good number of times, I fail. Wala e. Para sa JaFunds, para sa ekonomiya, para sa mga 3 dogs ko, at syempre, sa bills and hair color ko. CHZ.  After the interviews dad is tuned into, he will talk to me mala debriefing or post-mortem. Perhaps because he has been in operations for 38 years kaya his manager self is always present kahit gusto ko, mag-absent naman ‘yung vibe na ‘yun minsan. Hahahaha. He tells me that I am working it and that kawawa naman daw ‘yung nag-interview kasi sinagot ko na lahat ng tanong tapos grabe din mga tanong ko nung tinanong ako if may tanong pa ako. I said that it’s how I roll talaga.  With his managerial hat on, he assures me that I am on my way to the party. Sabi ko naman, dad, maraming bills, maraming ganaps, marami pa kaming itatawid kaya need talagang mag-grind kahit napaka moody ko. And most importantly, mother dragon made very specific remarks before she went to the other side kaya, as a takot sa nanay kahit patay na siya, here’s me trying to make things happen in the same manner that I’m trying to let things flow. Natatawa pa rin dad ko whenever I say this. Numerous times he says pa na anak ako nga nanay ko. Noon, I always agree with him. Over the past years, when we’ve been vibin’ and riding na, sabi ko is anak ako ng nanay ko at naging ganito ako kasi anak ako ng tatay ko. Gah. Naluha siya nung first few times ko sinabi sa kanya ‘yan. LOL. Tabi kasi, dad. Hahahaha. But, in all humility, my flawed, super basic dad may not be a showy dad; but deep down, he cared... a lot. Mukha lang hindi. Mukha lang wala siyang paki. Mukha lang napadaan siya.  What I realized is that all the years he was silent and almost non-existent as a father is that he has full trust that my mom is able to make things happen for the kids, kami ng kapatid ko. And he felt perhaps that it’s better if he doesn’t get down and get dirty because he has been raised by parents who are pretty much like his parenting style. He said nga that he is like a fallen leaf sa ilog --sunod lang sa agos. Poetic. Pak.  Thank you biking for allowing me and my dad to have a common ground, finally. A neutral ground even. HAHAHA. Thank you dad for riding with me as I coast through this male-dominated life. Sabi ko naman sa’yo, I promised mother dragon to provide you a happy and healthy old age even when joke ko lang ‘yun para matahimik siya. TBT, thank you dad for making me tough and gentle. Thank you for all the bashing because tama ka na I may not be the problem (at times), the world is the problem. Thank you for not stopping me in making my way downtown even when you want to keep me in your sight. LOL. Thank you for always being a YES man inspite my saltik trips and choices. Thank you for loving your 3 paw apos more than me. HAHAHAHA. Lalo when I am out of Manila for a long time.  LUH. Send ko ba sa’yo ‘to para iyak-tawa ka na naman? :D  Sana approved leave ko sa birthday mo. I guess this is the first leave na for your birthday tbh. You almost lost your mom during your birthday week and sige na nga, let’s try to make it a little extra this time around. Bilhan kita pambomba ng bike. LOL.
