Badoo (Formerly Yamky ) is a popular free social dating site. The platform offers its users the opportunity to meet new people and chat privately. Users can use the social network for free.

In 2017, Badoo was reintroduced to users as a completely independent social network with its renewed face, especially its logo. In 2019, scandals related to sexual assault, harassment and drug use among Badoo employees came to the fore.

Hello friends! Just a quick update on my adventures with dating apps.

These are the two I’ve been using this week:

Badoo and Coffee Meets Bagel

What I find fascinating about them, Badoo is 95% Hispanic and CMB is 95% Asian.

I am VERY popular on Badoo… it is overwhelming the number of people messaging me. Like, messages from 30 people per hour. And I have SO MANY likes. Here is a screenshot of the Likes closest to me:

But none of them are a love connection. I read their profiles, and we don’t have anything in common.

Most of the people messaging me are far away in other states and countries. I have no idea how they found me. But they don’t seem to be bots. They all seem like real people.

On Coffee Meets Bagel, I am NOT as popular. Only four people have Liked me. And I’ve only chatted with one.

Fortune Favors the Chucklefucks

I've been meaning to sign up for all of these for a while. I know exactly what I want to say in my bio, I know how I want to answer the prompts, and I really, really want to meet someone, the only problem is the pictures.

I am, like so many of us, a social butterfly on the inside and a timid little mouse on the outside. I love getting dressed up, I love parties, I love to dance, I love to meet new people and make friends, but I'm terrified of it at the same time. We're all caught between desperately, desperately wanting to love and the paralyzing fear. I don't know what to do with that.

I guess I don't really have anything to lose. I'm not super thrilled about the apps. I like the convenience, but as much as I try to convince myself, I just don't find them romantic. I wouldn't value a relationship any less if I met someone through them, but I just can't let go of the idea of fate, of locking eyes from across the room and suddenly knowing. I know this exact fantasy doesn't happen in real life, and certainly not to me, but I would still prefer being approached by someone who found me attractive and wanted to take a chance by asking me out then be one the 100s of people (and bots) someone has swiped through whenever they got bored that day. But I want to be able to say I did everything I could. I want to be brave.

If I were unemployed, I'd be giving the pavement the pounding of it's life. I'd be on Indeed, I'd be on Linkedin, I'd be ripping phone numbers off help wanted ads, I'd be asking friends and family if they knew anyone that was hiring, I'd be going door to door for every single company in my city. Looking for a job would be my job. I'd put time and money and effort into it. I'd get rejected over and over again. I need a job. Maybe I need a relationship just as much. Maybe it's irrational to think wanting food and shelter is perfectly justified but wanting human connection is weak and pathetic. Maybe I need to finally admit to myself that I'm as serious about my love life as I am about my professional life. Maybe I need to bite the bullet, go to the app store, and download freemium humiliation.

For the most part, most Tumblr lives are fake. The streams are from skout and badoo and those other weird dating apps and they create fake accounts to link them to tumblr. It’s kinda cringey that they would do something like that. The way tumblrs going there’s no way most of these lives could be as full as they are of actually real tumblr pages, they’re real people, but from fake accounts linked to those other sites.

I’m assuming there are linked accounts on those sites to mirror the tumblr ones too for parity. So basically any genuine tumblr page that goes on live, is essentially also being seen on those weird dating apps via a fake page created to link them. Again, very cringey.

Hinge + Me Bound

Hinge “fired” me. “Canned” me. Kicked me out. Ousted me to the curb. I’m scum. A miserable cretin of a gutterpunk. Forever? “…your account will remain banned. This decision is informed and final and subsequent appeals will not be considered.” Holy fucking hellfire, shit.

Let ourselves mull over actions and reactions of our doing – one, more often than not, inseparable from the other. Hope fucking sucks, though. Until it actually works… if and when, it does. But, like, how often is that?

-tom began to thinking about one real meeting, just you and him, in one coffee shop or one walk in the park in the near 

-once you were awfully upset because of school, you didn’t wanted to answer the video call, you gave him one or two word as an answer 

-’please baby do it, i can help, please’ he said to himself again and again, he was so nervous and irritated because he just wanted to run to you and hug you tightly 

-suddenly, you initiated a video call, tom picked up immediately

-your camera shakes as your hands, tom runs his hand through his hair 

-”baby please tell me what’s wrong, please” 

-you try to normalize your breaths, but you are in too much panic to find a way out 

-”i-i… messed up… me-messed up everything, oh-h my god” you stutter

-he try to calm you down, gives you advices

-”okay y/n, try to breathe. i know that’s hard, but try for me, okay? i’m here, i’m here and sure as hell that i’m not going anywhere” 

-you imagine that tom really at your side, hugging you and whispers to you like this, and you finally take your nerves down a little 

-”now you can tell me what’s wrong, i’m gonna help you, ‘kay?” 

-he listens while you explain him that you tried to fix your math grades from the second term, but got an E and your grades are low again (i know how hard is it honey, i tried too one time and i almost tried suicide) 

-tom helps you to make you one plan, gives you tips. it lasts two hours, but he makes sure that you don’t feel yourself uncomfortable. you decor the plan with tapes and post-its

-”and if you fix your grades, we can meet baby” he slips out that accidentally, but you hear that and blush 

-”i would like it too tommy” you answer, he adores your rose cheeks and eyes full of glimmer and happiness; even happier that he made you happy by himself and thinks that take your shit now, osterfield 

-”wait, wha- okay, then hurry up, honey” he cheers you, and ends the call

-while you two speak, paddy accidentally walks by before tom’s door and hear your chuckles. his eyes bright up, runs down into the living room to sam and harry like “guys guys, tom are dating somebody, some girl!” and then they all like “OH MY GOD” but they shush each other and pretend like nothing’s changed
