watched the movie knife + heart today and it was really good. if there's one thing u gotta know about me is I love love love it when sadist characters kill people in homoerotic manners. wait I don't think u understand. this guy had a dildo that turned into a knife. it was dildo... and he'd press a button(?) on it... and a blade would pop out of the tip. of the penis. dildo knife. and he killed cute men with it homoerotically. lots of hot gay porn in this movie btw. gay porn was actually incredibly central to the plot, I can't stress this enough. lots of sucking and fucking on screen and two (2) cum shots. or maybe four, depending on how you're counting them. and a gay sadist with a tortured past doing homoerotic murder!!!!!!! needless to say this film was unfortunately french.

gap is such a trashy drama but it would not be getting any criticism at all if it were a bl. the comments under mydramalist are brutual. but it’s funny how bl shows never get criticized or analyzed the way gap is. if it were a bl, people would simply accept and enjoy it as trashy entertainment and move on with their day people are so transparent lol

I decided to finally get into the mxtx novels and ended up starting with scum villain because the illustrations were really pretty.
I currently own three volumes and have been obsessed with it for months now. Just in case you were wondering how that was going.

while i find a lot of criticism of booktok and "booktok books" to be valid, a lot of it seems......very reminiscent of the anti-twilight stuff in the early 2010s. like specifically the parts that were like "TWILIGHT IS THE DEATH OF FEMINISM AND LITERACY" and "VAMPIRES AND BOOKS ARE RUINED FOREVER" and "THE ONLY PEOPLE WHO LIKE TWILIGHT ARE DUMB TEENAGE GIRLS WHO ARE DUMB AND DON'T KNOW ANY BETTER" rather than like. actual critiques of the books. and even some of the more valid claims would sort of position themselves as if teenage girls reading twilight can't tell fiction from reality. like i'm not saying you can't or shouldn't criticize popular books (i certainly have), or saying that it's not fun to rag on a book you hate (it sure as hell is). but treating a book you don't like getting popular (esp with teenagers) as the end of literacy and the publishing industry and good writing is just plain absurd.
like i'm not saying all these books are secretly masterpieces, or even that they're all good. i've read some shit booktok books, just like i read some shit YA books back in 2012. but weirdly, the world did not come to an end and good books are still getting published. many of those books provided me with genuine entertainment, solace, and community, even if in hindsight they weren't the best, and i don't think it's fair, kind, or logical to treat people like they're stupid for enjoying books like this. (not to mention, how many people really got into reading because of Generic YA Fantasy #45 or Fun Mindless Romance #207 or Pulply Trashy Sci-Fi #62? maybe they'll branch out into other types of literature, maybe not. but it's still good that they're reading.)
and, frankly, learning to recognize and critique genuinely problematic tropes and elements in these books has made me a better writer and more attentive and educated reader. sometimes being able to articulate why something is bad is important, and sometimes that requires actually reading the damn book. and i would say that goes double for books you enjoy but contain iffy elements - it's a lot easier to completely dismiss a book that's nothing but 500 red flags in a trenchcoat, but if you're in a place of "wow this book really spoke to me in x, y, z way and i really enjoyed it BUT a, b, c were really poorly handled," it gets trickier.
TL;DR: no, barnes and noble having a booktok table is not going to kill literature as we know it, and no, people enjoying a book you find overhyped and cringe doesn't mean they're all mindless sheep who can't enjoy True Literature. calm the fuck down.

Quality Entertainment
Ruhn x Reader
You and Ruhn have different ideas about what qualifies as good television, but can you agree on other forms of entertainment.
A/N: I'm thinking about Ruhn Danaan a LOT and I only see it getting worse after January 30
Warnings: fluffy smut below the cut, nsfw, oral f!receiving, minors dni
Tumblr media
You were curled up in Ruhn’s lap on the couch, trying to focus on the movie you were watching together. He had his arms around you, tucking you into his warm chest as his hands absent-mindedly traced patterns along your arms, your waist, your legs. You let out a soft sigh at the feeling, nestling further into your boyfriend’s lap where you were met with the evidence that he was not entirely focused on the movie as well.
You let out a soft laugh, glancing up at Ruhn as you rolled your hips harder against him. He let out a soft groan as his fingers gripped your hips harshly. “You seem distracted, Ruhn. I thought this was supposed to be ‘a cinematic masterpiece’ as you said,” you teased, trailing your hand up and threading it through his hair. Ruhn pinned you with a stare. “I didn’t say it was a ‘cinematic masterpiece,’ just that it’s better than that trashy reality TV you and Bryce watch.”
You snickered, aware that Fangs and Bangs wasn’t award-winning content, but you refused to admit that to Ruhn because his reactions to the show were what you enjoyed most. “Mhmm, well you’d better keep your eyes on the screen, then. I’d hate to get in the way of quality entertainment,” you bantered, swinging your leg over so that you were straddling his lap facing him.
Ruhn smirked, catching onto your game. He returned his attention to the TV behind you as he ran his hands over your thighs, teasing you with a feather-light touch. Challenge accepted. You pulled your top off, leaving you in your shorts and black lace bra. You inched closer to Ruhn so that your chests were barely touching, smirking as his breath quickened, clearly straining to maintain his focus on the screen. You began kissing and sucking at the exposed skin on his neck, licking your way up the side of this throat to his ear where you whispered, “enjoying the show?”
Ruhn swallowed but kept his gaze ahead, his expression changing to smugness as he brought his hands up your bare waist and undid the clasp on your bra. You sucked in a breath as your nipples were exposed to the cool air. Ruhn lazily dragged his hands to your breasts, drawing slow, teasing circles before lightly pulling and twisting each of your nipples. You bit back a moan as you tried to maintain the sense of dominance you had in the situation, but Ruhn could scent how aroused you were. Your breaths were shallow, and you were trying to calculate your next move when Ruhn practically shouted, “movie’s over,” and pulled you closer to him. He wasted no time taking one of your nipples into his mouth, flicking his tongue and swirling before dragging his lip ring along the sensitive peak, and repeating his movements on the other breast.
You were gasping as you rolled your hips against him. “Fuck, Ruhn, please,” you murmured and pulled his chin up to kiss you. You reached down to palm him through his jeans, causing his mouth to part enough for you to slip your tongue in, moving in tandem with the roll of your hips. Ruhn flipped you onto your back, his arms caging you in on the couch. He slowly kissed and licked his way down your torso, reaching the top of your shorts before he pulled them down, leaving you completely naked while he remained fully clothed above you.
Ruhn shifted down on the couch, licking and biting the insides of your thighs as his fingertips grazed your abdomen. He dragged his bottom lip along each side of your center, teasing you with his lip ring while pinning down your hips with one arm. He brought up his other hand, swirling and dipping slightly into your center. “Gods, you’re so wet, princess.” You pushed your hips against his arm holding you in place, “do something about it then, prince.” Ruhn removed his hand to give you a mock bow before bringing his finger up to his mouth, groaning at the taste of you on his tongue. You hooked your legs around his back and he smirked, making eye contact with you as he dragged his lower lip right over your sensitive clit. You moaned loudly, instinctively rolling your hips towards him as he began to suck your clit, bringing two fingers up to curl inside of you at a vicious pace. You hit your high with a scream, arching your back as Ruhn continued licking and sucking your clit until your legs were shaking.
When you finally came down from your orgasm, you looked at Ruhn who was smiling at you. “That is my favorite form of entertainment,” he said, scooping you up bridal style as he carried you to the bedroom to continue.

modern!steve popular culture hcs:
loves taylor swift. this is obvious. 1989 is his go to album when he's getting ready (especially during his hair care routine). he thinks style and wildest dreams were written FOR HIM. is not afraid to sing the songs out loud and sometimes annoys u a lot by singing them in a really high-pitched voice. sings "he's so TALLLL and handsome as HELLLL, he's so bad but he does it so well." at you with a wink and pointing to himself, fully believing it's written about him, you can't convince him otherwise.
rom-com lover. through and through. he used to hide it but he just can't anymore. loooves 10 things i hate about you, how to lose a guy in 10 days, and notting hill. he also enjoys all of katherine heigl's iconic rom-coms.
LOVES MUSICALS. mamma mia is in his top 3 on letterboxd (he loves abba SO MUCH). and he cried watching la la land and regularly listens to the soundtrack.
he can't watch horror movies for the life of him. he got creeped out by the idea of coraline and still can't get himself to watch it. (robin dressed up as the other mother for halloween and steve SCREAMED.)
he's one of those people WHO loves watching movies that are so bad that they are ABSOLUTE MASTERPIECES. also have a feeling he laughs really hard at those 00s parody movies. idk why. it's what bonded him and eddie. and they have a marathon of bad parody movies when they're stoned tf out of their mind. they just told me.
he loves ANYTHING pop. (he loves fantasize by ariana grande and has begged u on countless occasions to do the dance on tiktok and only send it to him) and he loves himself some alt-pop and occasionaly indie stuff like lana, lorde, arctic monkeys, death cab for cutie, sufjan stevens, inhaler, franz ferdinand, band of horses and boygenius!!!
also random but he'd be such a trashy reality tv fan.... watching ALL of them with you... love island, jersey shore, housewives, dANCE MOMS, any other horrible netflix reality tv... like at first he scoffs at you for it, but then he does that dad stance. just standing and watching whatever you're watching, then finally after a few hours, he takes a seat next to you, fully immersed in the experience, not even letting YOU look at your phone, and he's sitting on the edge of the couch, staring at the tv like a man-possessed while critiquing the show and doing commentary like they can hear him.
the most "metal" he can listen to is literally fall out boy. (eddie keeps making fun of him for this. you are now sending metal songs to steve, day by day, trying to get him to like it, just so that eddie won't make fun of your poor angel bf anymore<3)
this is self-indulgent but he's a twilight fanboy through and through... team edward but he feels bad for jacob (sadly... you have an argument about this each time and once you bring up jacob claiming a baby he's dead silent), has a tradition w u to watch them every fall. he acts like he's seeing it for the first time each time u guys watch it.
likes harry potter (fuck jkr forever, u guys don't engage in the content and u 🏴‍☠️ both the movies n books:)) bc he grew up with the movies but if you're a harry potter nerd, he'd poke fun at THAT A LOOT. HE'S A LIL TEASING ASSHOLE. "oh that wasn't very slytherin of you!" "i thought you were supposed to be brave, huh? aren't you a gryffindor, babe?" he taunts with a loud chuckle, enjoying the way you narrow your gaze at him.

Imagine if SQH actually was a god. As in, before he transmigrated, he was a god PRETENDING at being mortal, and then kept pretending when the system snatched him because it be Unfair otherwise. SQQ's been unwittingly getting away with insulting a god on the regular because SQH thinks that it's just part of the necessary experience, like waiting lines at Disneyland.
Shang Qinghua is a god, yes, but he's a really REALLY poor - as in financially desolate - god. He couldn't afford rent in Heaven anymore and decided to move down to the earthly realm where things should be cheaper... hopefully. (Yeah, so his followers are far and few in between and none of them ever burn paper money or tribute to him unlike other gods' followers. And because he's one of the poorest gods around town, he's not treated too well by other gods. He's at the bottom of the heavenly food chain, getting bullied all the time that he even got evicted out of his godly home by some whipsnappers!)
In the mortal realm, things aren't much better. He does manage to earn some coins writing literature - which is pretty simple as a literature god, hence his god-level skills in churning out so much words on a daily basis - but... he still is struggling to pay rent.
And that's how his masterpiece PIDW got turned into bad porn. Even if he's a god, he still needs a place to sleep, clothes to wear, and more! Just because he's god of literature doesn't mean he only does high classic literature; he can do trashy too! Anything that makes money.
Shen Yuan isn't pleased by that particular realization.
[More in #Shang Qinghua is actually a god... and he still wrote PIDW AU]

Okay. Listen up Weezer community. Why do you guys hate literally every Weezer album there is? This fanbase is so divided it's actually insane. If you say you like an album, somebody's gonna tell you how much they hate it. If you say you hate an album, somebody's gonna come after you and call it a masterpiece. I think the only exception to that is the blue album because how do you hate blue. That being said, here are my opinions:
I like Raditude. It's fun and silly and a real connection to youth. Plus, Put Me Back Together is a hidden gem and y'all are SLEEPING on it. (It's my favorite song so if you haven't heard it, please give it a listen.) Also, I hope you realize that Can't Stop Partying is SATIRE and that Rivers didn't even write those lyrics; they were given to him.
Pinkerton is fucking weird, but it's also a good album. Across The Sea is diabolical, but everything else on that album is pretty great, weird as it is. (Hell, even Across The Sea has a good sound if you ignore the premise and read a little deeper into it.) Pinkerton was an essential album. It reflects Rivers' depression at the time after the release of Blue, which was misinterpreted by the audience at the time. The whole album is about the deeper, darker, more honest parts of himself, and I appreciate that about this album.
Red is a fantastic album, and y'all need to give some love to The Spider. That song is wonderful. Red actually might be my favorite Weezer album of all time. Cold Dark World is kinda trashy, but it has a good sound. Plus: Scott Shriner has a kickass voice and I will be hearing nothing else. Also, Automatic isn't even close to being bad. Y'all are just weird.
Green is also a fantastic album. It is simple and somewhat pop-y, but goddammit it's a good album. The lyrics may be a little in-genuine, but they're still Rivers, and they're not devoid of feeling like every says. Emphasis on O' Girlfriend.
Blue is objectively fantastic, but that's not really controversial. I don't think I can name a time I've come across an avid hater of blue. It's their first album, so even if you don't like it, you just have to respect it. Also: Buddy Holly is a good song. Deal with it. Also, No One Else is a satire piece.
Make Believe is NOT as bad as y'all say it is. I've edited this post, and before I said that Beverly Hills was the only Weezer song I didn't like, but that the rest of the songs were really good. I've changed my mind. I don't know if it's bias or not, but after more listens, Beverly Hills has actually grown on me. I think this album is essential especially because of Pardon Me, a song in which Rivers gives his heartfelt apology for hurting those around him in order to be a 'better rockstar.' Also, Haunt You Every Day is a fantastic track.
Those are my strongest Weezer opinions laid out. I really wanted to voice some of my positive beliefs to spread around the joy of Weezer's music instead of trying to hate. But, all in all, we all have the right to our own opinion. Although this fanbase might not agree on everything, at the end of the day we all know what their best album is, and that is Christmas with Weezer.

Should I read the 100 Girlfriend Mamga? I've heard it's trashy, and as a rule I normally shy away from Harem stuff, but every panel I've seen from it is so goddamn funny...
it is profoundly trash. It is the Highest eschalon of trash. It’s the Mona Lisa of hot garbage. If you are the sort of person who thinks “I have heard this thing is kinda trashy” and marks that as a point of concern, 100 GF is not for you. 100 GF is for the people who hears “kinda trashy” and starts putting on their finest dumpster diving suit. And boy is it worth it.
it is a masterpiece of writing, because balancing its unreasonably massive cast is literally one of the single most impossible endeavors a mangaka could undertake, and it actually manages to pull it off. Each character is well-developed, with their own dynamics, not just with Rentaro, but with their other girlfriends, each of them bouncing off each other in a way that feels really natural and charming. It’s also a comedic fucking genius. I think “DJ No Smoking Before 20” is the second hardest any manga has ever made me laugh. (second only to Witch Watch’s death game chapter)
As a romcom/harem, it actually manages to pull off the massive dating pool because Rentarou is an impossibly perfect boyfriend. Most harem manga suck ass because it’s women throwing themselves at a guy who doesn’t want to date them. but 100 GF is magic because Rentaro fucking loves every one of his girlfriends. And there is never a single doubt, even once, if the girls should be dating him. He is the best boyfriend in the entire universe, and he loves all of them so very much.
It also has a teenage boy dating one of his girlfriends’ mother, another one of his girlfriends’ grandma, his own cousin, and two of his teachers. You will be watching one girl regularly get beat with a baseball bat for her own sexual pleasure.
i cannot recommend this manga without 5.6 million asterisks. Your trash tolerance must be at the level where you can stomach the average isekai without wanting to gauge your eyes out. You will have at least one GF whose bit goes too far for your comfort. This is the nature of the beast.
I highly recommend it!!

Have you seen this video? I was surprised to learn that Tolkien thought Disney infantilized fairy tales and I wanted to hear your thoughts
A long time ago, yeah! A lot of Tolkien's takes on stuff surprise me, and I don't feel as connected to who he was and what he liked as I do Lewis. But I respect him! I'm sure, being a guy who was so well-read, and understood the cultural and linguistic stuff that goes into fairy tales from around the world, and saw them on a level that was higher and deeper than we do...seeing them paraded around in round shapes, in a brand-new medium usually associated with garish commercial gags, was awful for him.
But I think we see animated films with a lot more respect than Tolkien, or anyone from Tolkien's era, did. And that's because of Disney. You have to remember, Disney was inventing the next generation's fairy tale. It has never been done like that before. So where we see beauty and the template for Good Children's Stories, Tolkien saw something new and kind of trashy. Sometimes I think, with all my current gagging about remakes and sequels, that maybe I would've hated cartoons if I lived at the same time as Tolkien, too.
Or maybe not. Maybe I would've been like the people delighted with the new full-length color masterpieces, grabbing popcorn and soda and talking about it.
That's my take, anyway!
