Violets & Plums: Astarion/Tav, Part 3
Part 2 Masterlist
A/N: still no clue what to name this fic tbh. CW for Astarion's back story/Cazador bullshit, and there's a bit of nudity that gets spicy
------------------------------------------------
Astarion barely said a word the entire day. It was a boring one; the group had decided to circle back to the druids' grove to confront Kagha about some evidence they found that she was working with shadow druids. Additionally, they wanted to re-up on supplies before mounting their final attack on the goblin camp. This meant a long day of walking and retracing old steps.
Personally, Astarion could not care less what Kagha was doing with the grove. He didn't see why it was any of their business if she wanted to kick the tieflings out and lock things down, but of course, Tav disagreed. Not only did Tav have a bleeding heart for apparently all wretched creatures, but she had Karlach in her ear begging her to make sure the orphaned tiefling children were safe. There was no point in arguing, since everyone else aside from Lae'zel seemed to agree.
Besides, Astarion had decided that the only way to deal with his unfortunate new Tav problem was to ignore her entirely as much as possible. If he just didn't speak to her, she wouldn't be able to read him and he wouldn't have the stomach flipping issue. He had a new mantra that he kept repeating in his mind. Get Halsin. Get to the creche. Remove tadpole. Be on his merry way. No more Tav.
But even as he repeated it to himself, he couldn't shake the possessive feeling that had risen in him at the sight of his bite marks on her neck. Mine. Her arms wrapped around him. Her breath in his ear. The scent of violet and plums. Get Halsin. Get to the creche. Remove tadpole. Steal Tav away. No more others. Just them.
Fuck.
"Here's the stream. We're about halfway there." Wyll called over his shoulder from the front of the pack.
"Thank the gods, I want to shower off that nasty bog smell!" Karlach darted forward, her large body clearing a path for everyone behind her to walk through.
"A rinse would do this wizard good," Gale agreed, looking to Tav. "Shall we stop for an hour or so?"
"I don't think there's any stopping Karlach, anyway," Tav chuckled, dropping her pack on the edge of the stream. The tiefling was already throwing her clothes off over her shoulder, leaving a trail of boots and belts behind her.
"There's a waterfall!" Karlach cried, and as the rest of the group caught up, Astarion could see her already splashing her way over to it. Wyll, Lae'zel, and Shadowheart were quick behind her, stripping down to their underwear and splashing each other as they sank into the rushing water (Lae'zel and Shadowheart splashing each other with particular aggression).
"Gods, this feels good on my engine," sighed Karlach. The waterfall ran over her turned into a giant cloud of steam.
"Maybe I can hug you if you're standing under there!" Tav said excitedly. Astarion averted his eyes as she removed her clothes and waded over to her friend. Why is she always hugging everyone?
Next to Astarion, Gale picked his way gingerly through the shallow part of the stream until he settled himself in up to his chest.
"It really does feel quite nice," the wizard informed him, clearly confused as to why Astarion was still fully dressed and standing tensely on the bank. Astarion shot him a dark look.
Wyll floated back over to Astarion and Gale, sighing dreamily. "Ah, women. Is there any sight better?"
The three of them looked quietly as the four girls laughed raucously under the waterfall. Even Lae'zel was in on the fun, an uncharacteristic smile across her unusual features. Astarion swallowed thickly as his eyes fell on Tav, her skin slick and shining under the rushing water. Her sheer joy almost choked him with its purity. He turned away.
"I'm going to find some privacy," he told the men pointedly so that they wouldn't try to follow him. He wasn't in the mood for a boys club atmosphere with those two.
A few meters away, Astarion at last toed off his boots and removed his clothing and gear, folding them neatly on a tree trunk before wading into the stream. He scrubbed himself with his bergamot soap, sighing as he realized how stiff his shoulders were and how sore his feet and legs were. He leaned back and dunked his blonde curls, using his fingers to scrub through the grime.
Suddenly, he heard splashing coming towards him and he instinctively ducked so that the water covered up to his chin. Infuriatingly, it was Tav wading towards him.
"Hi," she said with a smile.
"What do you want?" he felt defensive and vulnerable with his clothes off; it made him snippy. She cocked her head at him, but the smile didn't falter.
"I'm sorry, I've intruded on you," she observed. "I only wanted to see if you were alright. You've been so quiet today I rather thought a monster hunter had stolen you away."
"I'm fine," he snapped. Her gentle tone made his teeth grind. He wished she would kneel further into the water so that he couldn't see so much of her, as it was very distracting.
"My, you're awfully acidic today. If hunger's the cause, you can come and feed on me again tonight." She said it so casually, as though she told him he could borrow a cup of sugar. He gaped at her. "Not as much as last time, though, I need my strength for tomorrow. I'll make sure to eat a big dinner, too." The last bit she said more to herself than to him, and then looked at him expectantly.
"I - uh - alright," he replied uncertainly. He hated how much he wanted it. Hated that it was physically impossible for him to say no. Hated that she was so bloody nice about it all.
She smiled. "Brilliant. I'll leave you to your primping, then."
Once they had all dried off in the afternoon sun, they set off again. It took all of Astarion's strength not to let his eyes rove over Tav's body as she lay bathed in the radiant light. He chose instead to focus on attempting to inflict psychic damage on Gale, who was letting his eyes rove plainly and with reckless abandon for his own life and safety.
When they finally reached the grove, Astarion realized how critical it in fact was that Tav had offered to let him drink from her. After confronting Kagha and disposing of the shadow druids, the chastised elf had offered them sleeping arrangements to stay in the grove for the night. Within the confines of the grove, Astarion would not be able to hunt, as all animals were sacred to the druids. And, honestly, he wouldn't be able to tell which ones were actually druids in wildshape. He didn't fancy picking a fight with one of these nut jobs.
Then came the selection of sleeping arrangements. Each room had two beds, which meant there would be an odd one out. Astarion obviously expected to be the spare, guessing Wyll and Gale would take one room and the girls would pair off. He stood off from the group as they discussed the arrangements, and turned to face Tav when she came to break the news. But again, she surprised him.
"Me and you, then?"
"I... what?"
"Lae'zel has elected to to sleep on the ground because 'beds are too comfortable'," Tav explained. "And, considering our plans for the evening, it makes sense."
Over her head, Astarion could see Karlach and Shadowheart whispering to one another and looking in their direction, smiling devilishly.
"Quite."
If Astarion had ever been inclined to believe in a god before, he knew definitively in this moment that they had all abandoned him. Confined to a private room with Tav, where they had every intention of entering an intimate situation. He might as well just stake himself in the middle of this hallway.
"Our room will be this way." Tav picked up her pack and gestured for him to follow, which he had no choice but to do. The room was simple and bare; druids were not known for great finery. But it was clean and smelled of cedar wood and fresh flowers. Admittedly, Astarion was rather looking forward to sleeping in a proper bed for the first time since he was abducted.
His eyes taking in the room snagged on her, standing awkwardly.
"I'm going to change clothes," she explained.
"Ah, right, of course." He turned away from her, pretending to inspect the bed. The candle on her side of the room cast her shadow on the wall next to him as she unlaced her jerkin and pulled her cotton shirt over her head. As she turned, he could see the silhouette of her breasts as she heaved a deep breath. Astarion raked his hand through his hair and busied himself unlacing his own boots.
After a few more quiet moments, she spoke softly: "Okay, I'm finished. I'm ready when you are."
Astarion closed his eyes to steel himself for a quick moment before turning to face her. She was laying on the bed wearing a thin tunic and smoothing her hair off of her neck. She had pulled the blanket haphazardly over her, but he could see the top of her thigh poking out; it did not seem that she was wearing any pants. Gods, hadn't he seen enough of her naked flesh today? The sight made him feel as though he was blushing, even though there was no warmth to his skin.
Slowly, he stalked over to her bedside, and she looked up at him with a frown.
"Perhaps I should lay on the floor? I don't want to spill blood on the bed."
"Don't worry about that, darling. I will ensure none is spilled. Just... make yourself comfortable."
She seemed satisfied at this, and settled back, turning her head so that her previously punctured neck was exposed. Now it was he that hesitated.
"I... would you rather I sit on the edge of the bed and lay across you, or hold myself over you like I did last time?" One way required him laying on her chest, but the other would almost certainly require him planting his knee between her legs to hold himself at the right angle.
"Oh," she sounded surprised, and a blush crept up her neck as she made the same realizations. "uhm, whatever is more comfortable for you."
Astarion wanted to laugh. He had never been so uncomfortable in his life. At least in Cazador's dungeon, he usually had an idea of what was coming next. Ultimately, he decided to sit on the side of the bed, and he sank himself down next to her.
"Not too much," she reminded him, and he nodded, putting his hand over his heart to show his sincere promise.
Well, here goes nothing.
He leaned into her, and her scent overtook him instantly. He parted his lips to her pulse point and felt her swallow, preparing herself. He lined his fangs up to the previous punctures, and slowly sank into her neck.
At the first taste of her blood to his tongue, he was completely and utterly lost. His hands clutched at her warm body beneath her as he grew dizzy with the scent he was coming to know as uniquely hers. It sang to him like a siren song, coaxing his hands to move on their own accord, clawing at the hem of her tunic and clutching at that thigh skin that had taunted him moments earlier. She gasped, and he thought he might be hurting her, but her hand flew to the back of his head and knotted in his hair. He moaned as she fingered his silver curls, her other hand rubbing up and down his forearm.
Everything was blurring together. He wasn't sure when he withdrew his fangs, but the next moment he was licking the rivulets of blood that ran from the punctures they left behind. Now it was she who moaned, still clutching him, pressing her body against him. He lavished her neck until the blood stopped running, but he couldn't tear himself away. He began nipping, sucking, and kissing his way up her neck, catching her earlobe, and then slowly crossing her jaw bone.
"Astarion," she choked out, her voice a breathy whisper in his ear. He pulled back immediately.
"I'm sorry," he gasped. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean-"
But the hand still tangled in his hair firmly pulled his face to hers, crashing their lips together in a searing kiss.
That was it. He was completely broken. He opened his mouth hungrily, drinking her in. Their teeth clashed with the desperate need to be closer, to feel each other, their frenzied desire burning hot fire into his lifeless body. He felt her hands tugging his shirt untucked and roaming her hands over the skin beneath, and he did the same. Warm. Soft. He broke the kiss only long enough to tear her tunic off. He hesitated only the briefest of seconds before discarding his own shirt. Fuck it, he thought. It's just a fucking scar.
He dove back into the crook of her neck, their naked chests crashing blissfully together as he lavished her with kisses everywhere he could see. Her skin was so hot, he couldn't believe Karlach was the only one with an infernal engine in her chest. Astarion had been cold for so, so long. For the first time in 200 years, he felt alive.
This thought sobered him, and he slowed his kisses. He was afraid to get to the next part. She was so perfect, so beautiful and soft and warm. She deserved good things. He wasn't good. He was damaged beyond repair. He was a killer, a monster, no matter what she said on the matter.
He didn't realize how still he'd gone as this panicked thought grasped him until he felt her hands stroking gently across his face, their foreheads pressed together.
"Are you alright?" she whispered, caressing him.
Astarion opened his mouth, but he couldn't speak. He didn't even know what to say. Didn't want to hurt her, didn't want to ruin the moment even more so than he already had. He let out a sigh he hadn't realized he was holding.
He conjured an image in his mind of a request, one that he was too ashamed to vocalize because it was so pathetic. Then, he gently prodded at her tadpole. With their foreheads together, it felt like they were tapping on opposite sides of a window pane. She connected to him, and he showed her the image.
"Of course," she whispered, pressing a soft kiss to his forehead.
She rearranged herself and motioned for him to lay down. He lay his head on her shoulder, face in the crook of her neck, and wrapped his arms around her waist. She took him in her arms, gently caressing his shoulders with her fingertips, and kissed the top of his head. After a few minutes of silence, she whispered again into the flickering candlelight.
"You don't have to share anything with me. But if you want to talk about what you're feeling, you can tell me anything. You're safe with me."
Astarion felt, of all things, tears pricking the corners of his eyes. He swallowed and blinked them away, hugging her even tighter, if possible. Instinctively, he reached for a joke to distract from his discomfort. But it died in his throat as she continued with her gentle ministrations. There was something sobering about the dim light in the room that made him feel bare. He didn't want to lie to her. And he did feel safe with her.
"When I was under Cazador's control," he began slowly, "he made me do a lot of terrible things. I... was forced to use my body to lure victims for him." Her hand stilled for a moment as the shock of this revelation hit her, but she continued her caresses. '"He sent me out to find the most beautiful creatures in Baldur's Gate, and to ruin them. The things I've done..." he trailed off, eyes stinging again, "my body, it's tainted. It's a weapon. And I killed so many."
He lifted his head to look at her. Her lip was trembling. "I'm afraid to ruin you."
After a moment, she seemed to compose herself enough to speak. "You are not tainted. You were a slave, and you did what you had to do to survive, and because you had no choice. Gods, you are -" she huffed out a breathless laugh that lacked mirth, "- you are so beautiful, Astarion. And really and truly brilliant. You could never hurt me. I am safe with you." She cupped his chin in her hand and used her thumb to swipe a tear from his cheek, looking deeply into his eyes.
"You are not a monster."
Astarion pressed his face into her chest, unable to handle the kindness of her words. He didn't deserve them, but he wanted so badly to believe her.
"Thank you," he all but whispered, pressing a kiss to her skin. "No one has ever had a kind word for me. You're the only one."
"Get used to it." She squeezed his shoulders and resumed her gentle caresses. "And when we get to Baldur's Gate, we're going to kill Cazador."
Astarion chuckled. He wondered if Tav, in all her research, had any idea of how hard it would be to kill a vampire lord. But it was so like her to believe that she could, and he let her. He even allowed himself to envision the fantasy where Cazador was destroyed, and he would finally and truly be free. It almost ached, how much he wanted it to be true. Beneath his head, he felt her sigh, as though she were drifting off to sleep.
"Sweet dreams, my dearest one," he whispered as the candle flickered out, allowing her warmth to lull him into a sleep of his own.

Interesting how the companions are all "I thought I saved you when I stopped Bhaal taking control of you that night you tried to kill me in Act 2."
Guys, I don't think one night of emotional support is quite enough to undo years of cult programming and a lifetime of a god stealing your autonomy and free will and trying to groom you from within your own mind. I know from the way Larian has written Durge's quest lines it might seem so, but it's really not. (Alright, yes, brain damage, but we don't know how much got knifed out; the player picking the dialogue options and personal interpretation still comes into it, but you still get little signs of the conditioning - especially if Duge isn't resisting and/or accepts Bhaal. "Father are you watching?" "They will all die for you" and "Father giving me heart failure is a sign of affection," indeed.)
At least Astarion's is worded so it comes off a little more resigned than as though he expected them to be "fixed"? As if he knew the whole “loving your chains” thing - as he phrases it if Lae'zel doesn't break free of Vlaakith's conditioning - was a possibility. Depending on past choices he'll add that he didn't consider Durge to have a choice in this scenario; dying to avoid becoming Bhaal's Chosen is not a legitimate option according to him. So it seems to be resignation to an unfixable situation rather than the "I can still fix you" you get from almost everyone else.

As with Patch 5, I have compiled my favorite Patch 6 patch notes (the exciting ones and the hilarious ones) so you don't have to.
First of all, the Highlights section has some VERY nice QoL changes:
"You can now dismiss a recruited companion from your party while speaking to the companion you want to replace them with." (Fuck yes, this is such a small annoyance but it really adds up over time.)
"When a dialogue triggers automatically, the game will now try to prioritise your avatar character as the main speaker." (I spent literally like half an hour trying to ensure Hector got the conversational lead when walking into the vault with the Stone Lord for my liveblog post, so this fills my heart with DEEP joy.)
"The Elixir of Hill Giant Strength now applies its effects when thrown." (HUGE deal for Hector's party in my liveblog, as @zenjestrr has pointed out to me - Jaheira can hurl it onto Hector, Karlach, and Minsc together!)
Some general happy-making improvements (some for things in Act 3/epilogue that I haven't gotten to yet but which sound very positive):
"Your partner now has a few different kisses! They're brand new, unique, and randomized."
"If you sit on the stool in Shadowheart's camp corner, she will now react to you with a line based on your relation with her."
"Improved the cinematic scenes in the Elfsong Tavern to feel more intimate when you and your romance partner decide your future together after defeating the Netherbrain."
"Reworked the reflection scenes that take place after wrapping up the defeat of the Netherbrain for characters without romantic partners to better match the scenes for those who do have romantic partners, and to bridge the gap into the epilogue."
"Added a new cinematic scene to support the combat encounter that occurs after you choose whether to side with Nightsong at Sorcerous Sundries or not."
"If you romanced Lae'zel, grab a red dragon and saddle up - you can now join her in the rebellion against Vlaakith, even if you are not gith yourself."
"Increased the number of valid methods of knocking Minthara out to recruit her."
"Tooltips for spells requiring concentration now more prominently display a warning if you are already using concentration to maintain another spell."
And now the bits that just made me laugh. XD
"If you Long Rest with only alcohol as camp supplies, you will now get the new Hungover condition for 10 turns."
"The Long Rest camp supply menu is now better at pulling supplies from inside containers in companion inventories. Stop hoarding the cheese, Wyll."
"The owlbear cub will no longer gobble up Auntie Ethel's Hair before you can take advantage of the bonus it grants." (???)
"Creating harmful surfaces beneath NPCs will now trigger a crime reaction."
"Scratch can no longer equip certain weapons. Like the Everburn Blade."
"Jaheira could be in bad shape by the time she arrived at Moonrise Towers since she already had to fight. Now she's smart enough to heal up before she goes there, which we're hoping lets her last at least an additional second in combat."
"Fixed dice roll sounds playing if you have the 'Hide Failed Perception Rolls' setting enabled while exploring. We asked the narrator to quieten down when rolling the dice for your immersion."
"Fixed a bug causing player characters to get deleted from the game after stealing the Blood of Lathander."
"Enemies are now less likely to summon a Skeletal Involucre in range of a Spirit Guardian that will immediately destroy it."
"Nere's Legendary Action now correctly triggers when he is attacked, rather than when he attacks. Cut him some slack - being a True Soul is a lot of pressure; we'd all get confused in his shoes."
"Told Fezzerk to stop throwing his bombs on himself and his allies."
"The Apostle of Myrkul's Finger of Death spell is now treated as a Level 7 spell instead of a cantrip."
"Fixed Steel Watchers sometimes hurting themselves with their own attacks."
"Invisible characters who have something to say in a dialogue will now remember to actually show themselves."
" Throwing NPCs into a chasm will no longer trigger their crime reaction dialogue while they're mid-flight."
"Jaheira could have access to two types of Wild Shape in certain circumstances. We've toned down her blatant disregard for D&D rules."
"Fixed NPC heads occasionally detaching in Forced Turn-Based Mode."
"You can no longer place a corpse into its own inventory."
"Items can only be sent to specific companions in camp if a party member is in camp at the time. Stop sending every +1 dagger to Gale, he's not that hungry."
"NPCs should be a lot less eager to engulf themselves (or their allies) in flames now."
"Fixed NPCs using an incorrect throw range when they can't move. This sometimes caused them to, say, throw explosives on their own heads."
"Fixed NPCs sometimes successfully landing jumps that shouldn't be possible. Like through ceilings."
"You can no longer trade with sleeping characters."
"Fixed overhead dialogues still playing above the souls of dead characters - represented as blue wisps - in the epilogue camp. Lae'zel will no longer urgently proclaim 'Repositioning!' when you make her little wisp move around."
"Killing Omeluum or Blurg of the Society of Brilliance will now break your paladin oath. Because they're nice and you're not."
"Picking up fish from the beach at the Emerald Grove is no longer a crime. They take their vegetarianism very seriously, those druids."
"You can now no longer spawn infinite fish at the Emerald Grove beach. No wonder that bear smells."
"Told Art Cullagh to please stop singing during the combat when Isobel's being abducted."
"You can no longer trade with Voss when he ambushes you at the base of High Hall."
"If you escape prison and then return to your cell and close the door without being noticed by anyone allied to the arresting guards, you will no longer be considered a fugitive."
"Fixed a bug where a status could carry over from the final battle to the beginning of the epilogue, potentially killing the players."
"You can now clean your body and clothes in a fountain in the House of Hope's boudoir. Sometimes it's nice to freshen up before a big event."
"Fixed Scratch not feeling like playing in camp beyond Act I after partying too hard at the camp celebration."
"Minthara no longer speaks more about Shadowheart than Shadowheart does about herself."
"You'll no longer see text telling you that Gale approves of something if he's not even nearby to see what happened."
"Jaheira's memory in her old age was failing her, and she could tell you about Minsc twice if you left her in camp but advanced her quest multiple steps. Now she's much better at remembering what she told you, and will only prompt it the once."
"Good boys Scratch and the owlbear cub will now play together in any camp, not just the main one in the wilderness from Act I."
"Cerys will now leave your camp after the camp celebration in Act I. We know it's sometimes hard to ask the last person to leave the party, so we've done it for you."
"Fixed Rugan being upset with you for trespassing after saving him from impending doom. You're welcome, Rugan."
"Florrick now looks appropriately grimy and sweaty after escaping Waukeen's Rest."
"Lae'zel will no longer become hostile towards you, thinking you left the inquisitor's office in Crèche Y'llek while waiting to fulfil Vlaakith's orders, when you only jumped on one of the platforms in the corner."
"Fixed Smythin in the Goblin Camp sometimes getting stuck in a cowering animation. He's a little braver now."
"Rugan is no longer 'too busy' to thank you after you free him in the Zhentarim Hideout."
"One of the teenagers in the Crèche Y'llek will now tend to his cleaning tasks. He may or may not have been chastised for shirking his duties."
"Fixed a bug with Bernard in the Arcane Tower not giving you a reward if you previously befriended the squirrel in the Emerald Grove."
"Fixed a couple of goblins in the Goblin Camp not really doing much at all if you free Sazza."
"Rotated Barth and Remira near the Emerald Grove gate so they would shout in the right direction."
"The nurses in the House of Healing have remembered that they are capable of speech and will now react to crimes properly."
"Dame Aylin now permits all players to behold her radiance in the cutscene when ascending from the Shadowfell rather than just the one who freed her."
"Isobel and Marcus will no longer stop their epic confrontation at Last Light just because someone commits a petty crime nearby."
"In rare cases, Jaheira could be Frightened in the combat with Ketheric and end up so scared she doesn't show up to resolve the conflict in the Shadow-Cursed Lands. She now overcomes her terror."
"Bards can no longer say they saved Jaheira's Harper scouts when they did no such thing."
"Fixed some guards by the fountain at Last Light who were trying to speak each other's lines."
"Now you can convince Ch'r'ai Har'rak to go away in different ways."
"Mayrina will no longer still be Bloodless in Act III if Astarion bit her in Act I."
"Wyll no longer leaves the party when you commit a crime in the High Hall. With the city in ruin, the petty crime dramatics seemed a little extreme."
"A few more people around Baldur's Gate will notice if an article has been printed about you in the newspaper."
"Lumbar will no longer react as if you didn't pay for the privilege of hitting him if the single strike had different damage types." (Ah this explains why Hector got that weird reaction. XD)
"Vicar Humbletoes will no longer do a weird shrug before praying."
"Prevented Karlach's death scene from triggering if a solo player chooses to detonate while playing as Avatar Gale."
"Fixed Lae'zel talking inaccurately about Ptaris, for example suggesting he's dead when he's... literally right there."
"Auntie Ethel will no longer send you a letter written by Zevlor in the epilogue."
"If you part ways with Shadowheart and hide in the Underdark as a mind flayer, she won't forget and think you've spent the last sixth months together in the epilogue. Classic Shadowheart, always forgetting things."
"The Emperor will no longer send you a cheerful letter in the epilogue camp if you ate his brains."
"You can no longer invite the owlbear cub to live with you and Halsin in the epilogue if you do not, in fact, live with Halsin."
"Fixed avatar characters incorrectly getting assigned the Dream Guardian's skin colour in Character Creation on controller."
"The fish barrels in the Underdark, that clearly look like they have fish in them, now actually contain fish instead of tarts."
"You can no longer casually go walkies in the middle of a chasm in the Decrepit Village in the Underdark."
"Removed a platform in Grymforge that looked like it was accessible and was tricking a few of you into trying to jump on it to access the Gauntlet of Shar."
"You can no longer disappear into a couple of rocks near the mephits in Grymforge. Sorry."
"Added a new animation for Cranium Rats. They can now stand up on their hind leggies."
"Corpses thrown from your inventory now look dead rather than alive. As is right."
"Fixed missing sounds in Active Search. (We found them hidden under some rocks in Act I.)"
"Fixed a basket of onions claiming to be a fruit basket, and other issues with lying baskets."
"Gave the dogs at the Sword Coast Couriers names. Because they're the best boys."
"Lae'zel no longer slides or teleports away during her Epilogue dialogue."
"Made general improvements to Boo's animations. The hamster is a little less jittery."
"Fixed the goblet flying out of your hand when talking to Jaheira at Last Light. We knew you were suspicious of it, but you don't have to be so dramatic."
:D
This is a tiny fraction of the full set of changes/improvements/fixes listed in the patch notes and once again I am tremendously impressed. As I said last time - this game has a breadth of scope and ambition that repeatedly takes my breath away and I am mindboggled at the amount of work being put into it.
Very excited to finish out Act 3 in the coming weeks!

The Sound of Your Voice
Pairing: Astarion x Tav
Tags: demisexual Tav! (they/them) mostly flirting and sass, but brief mentions of rejection trauma, Act 1 compliant
Summary: It was supposed to be a quiet morning, but a short, bitter exchange between Astarion and Shadowheart has Tav paying just a little too much attention to how words are shared.
Word Count: 4999
AO3
A/N: Yeah I don't have much for this, it just kind of happened lmao please enjoy and if you want more uhh drop a like/reblog and hopefully my brain will throw out more ideas
The sky was still tinged with the dusty colors of dawn as the camp slowly woke up. Gale was sleepily digging through the collected rations, stifling yawns as he gathered ingredients for breakfast. Karlach was still snuffling out soft snores by the fire, the embers smoldering closest to her. Shadowheart was perched at the water's edge, pressing cold water to her face to chase away sleep. Lae'zel was beginning her morning stretches, the shining greatsword making slow sweeps through the air to cut down her imagined foes. Wyll was sitting by the fire near the sleeping tiefling looking barely more awake than her, but trying to encourage some life back into the wood. Astarion was still missing, assumedly out hunting or stealing some few quiet moments in the sun for himself. Tav was wearily sitting up in their bedroll, trying to rub the sleep from their eyes and cringing at the ache in their neck.
It was partly from sleeping on the ground and partly from the bite mark still healing from a few days ago. Shadowheart had offered to heal it properly the day it had happened, an unhappy slant to her mouth, but they had brushed her off with a smile. It was important to know the price, after all, and they had chosen to offer themselves. It didn't feel right to wave it away. They had relented to let the cleric properly dress the little wound, all too aware of the eyes staring down the vampire as it happened. The group had only been together for a few weeks, but everyone seemed a bit protective of Tav and a bit too ready to turn on the offending pair of fangs. No one had made more than a passing remark about it, at least, thanks in no small part to their insistence that they encouraged Astarion. That they trusted him. The man himself had been all smug smiles and shrugging confidence, but his gaze had been fixed on Tav through it all as if they were a queer puzzle; as if calculating where his next flash of teeth or dripping affections should be placed. It had sat uncomfortably on their shoulders ever since.
With a creaking yawn and shivering stretch, they rolled up their bed and plunked themselves next to Wyll. A murmuring good morning was exchanged, both of them equally half hearted in the attempt but smiling. They let a little bolt of fire spring from their fingers, properly igniting the logs the warlock had carefully propped back into order and he let the flint drop gratefully from his hands. They warmed themselves in peaceful quiet for a moment before the man was called over by Gale. Something about catching some fish for a refreshing breakfast and how the wizard could collect them himself with magic, but it was such a nice morning to ruin it with carnage. Tav smiled, huffing a quiet little laugh as they drooped forward on the log, eyes sliding closed. They were simply still tired from waking so early, that was all.
The log shifted as someone sat next to them and they started slightly, jerking awake as if preparing to get scolded. Shadowheart was perched next to them, doing a poor job to hide a laugh at their reaction. Her hair was neatly braided, not a single sign that the cleric had been resting even ten minutes prior. Her face was the usual mask of distant interest and hidden thoughts, but her eyes were fixed on the white bandage at their neck. They ran a hand almost nervously through their hair.
"Are you still exhausted, Tav?" She asked, not bothering to waste time with the check in this morning. "I confess little experience with such bites, but it worries me that you're still affected days later. Are you sure I can't heal it properly? We wouldn't want you to drop in battle over it."
They held their hands up defensively, shaking their head. "It's fine, I'm fine, honestly." They smiled, trying to disarm her worry. "I think it's just because of the last few days. Infiltrating the goblin camp has been a lot and letting that follower of Loviatar perform his, erm… ritual right after the bite was probably a poor idea on my part."
She huffed slightly, crossing her arms. "You didn't let me heal you after that, either. I am a competent cleric, you know. You don't have to rely on potions to fix everything."
"I know, I know!" There was a soothing tone to their voice, an almost sheepish look on their face. "I just… think there are better uses of your magic than fixing my choices. If we had gotten caught trying to find the druid, I figured it would be better if you had every option available in the fight. Being a little woozy isn't enough to take me out, anyways."
A heavy sigh escaped her as she shook her head. "You're hopeless, you know that? Our leader shouldn't be unsteady on their feet in a fight because they thought it was a good idea to let a vampire spawn use them as a snack." The term had fallen from her lips with venom, disdain obvious.
"Don't." The word snapped out before they caught themselves, a surprised look plain on their face before they rushed forward. "Um, please, don't call him a spawn. Not like that."
Her brows were furrowed, confused and a little annoyed. "Why ever not? It's exactly what he is."
They floundered for a moment, a hand spinning in the air as they tried to detangle their thoughts from a sleep addled mind. "It's, um, it's the way you said it. Like he's some gross creature instead of our companion."
She snorted, "Well…"
"I don't like it." They murmured, their mouth forming an unhappy line and eyes downcast. "We don't pick what we are or what our past was like. Maybe it's a little optimistic or soft of me, but if nothing else this whole situation is kind of like a new beginning, you know? We get to define ourselves again. I don't want to judge you all based on things that already happened, on ideas that others forced on us. You're all my dear companions and we're in this together. Our choices from here on matter more, right?"
"You're right, that is very soft." They both jumped at Astarion's voice coming from behind them suddenly, a wide grin on his bloody lips as they both turned to look at him. Shadowheart let out a little noise of disgust at the sight. "Do forgive my lack of decorum, I couldn't help but overhear you two on my way to wash up and felt the need to weigh in." He pointed a single delicate finger at the cleric. "You can call me whatever you like, I don't care. I'm honestly more surprised you can remember such disdain towards creatures like myself than I am offended by your tone considering the mess you let your dear goddess make of your head."
"Astarion!" Tav hissed, worry creasing their face as their eyes darted between the two.
Shadowheart's shoulders had climbed towards her ears as she pulled in a sharp breath, a look of thunder in her eyes. "Don't you dare try to talk to me about my holy mission. At least I have a purpose besides being a leech."
"At least I know what I'm about, darling." He countered smoothly, the smile on his lips all sharp edges.
"I didn't know slowly killing your own leader was such a strong identity to you." The cleric smirked, for all intents and purposes looking down on the vampire despite the height difference.
"Guys, please-" Tav tried to step between them, pleading, but they leaned closer together, sneering at each other as their voices rose.
"Careful, pet, I might try sampling you next. I do so enjoy a meal with spirit." His eyes were pure hunger as he loomed, a dire sight with blood still smeared around his mouth.
"Oh, do try. It'll be so fun to burn you to ash while you scream." Shadowheart was all cold angles and frigid looks, like a moonless night.
Tav was desperately trying to be heard over their barbs, frustration causing tears to prick their eyes. Why weren't they listening? This wasn't helping anything, but it was like nothing else existed beyond their vitriol for each other. A hand clutched at their shirt collar, trembling as they struggled to find the thread that would defuse the two before a large figure suddenly rose beside them. Karlach had woken up. They took a step back as she grabbed the offending party members by the scruff of their shirts and hauled them apart. She was quick to let go before her touch could properly cause harm, but it had been a sudden and very hot point of contact. They both yelped slightly, startled.
"It is too fucking early for you two to be yelling." The tiefling groused, voice thick with sleep still. "Can you go be school children out in the woods or something? Or better yet, stop freaking Tav out." They both snapped slightly guilty looks at the adventurer. "Great, good talk. I'm going to harass Gale for food now and if I hear yelling from either of you, I'm going to give you something to scream about."
As the warrior trudged over to where the wizard was cutting up veggies the two shot glares at each other. Tav was worried they were simply going to continue the fight, albeit a great deal quieter. They were about to bodily put themselves between them, but then Shadowheart let out an annoyed tch.
"This isn't over, Astarion." She snapped before smoothing out her rumpled shirt. "But Karlach is right. Besides, you aren't worth the breath."
He bodily rolled his eyes. "'Not over,' she says. Darling, it's been over before you even started swinging." And then he was suddenly too close to Tav, a finger hooked in the bandage around their neck and pulling gently. "Isn't that right, my sweet?" His voice was husked, dripping with smug affection and they couldn't help the blush that sprang to their cheeks as they slapped a hand over his. He laughed, eyes darting to the cleric. "You could just tell her instead of dancing around it every morning."
"Tell me what-" But then she stopped, realization dawning and her hands formed fists at her side. "Tav, have you been letting him feed from you this entire time?"
"I- um, well-" they stuttered, suddenly feeling very warm and lightheaded. "I mean, uh, sometimes- yes." The affirmation slipped free quietly as they deflated, defeated.
Shadowheart was pinching the bridge of her nose now as Astarion grinned devilishly at their side. "Oh, darkness preserve me," she muttered before rounding back on Tav. "I would have liked to know that. I can't make you stop indulging the spawn," and the word fell like another curse from her lips, "but I can at least counteract the effect. Next time, you are telling me and letting me heal you. I am not having this bastard be the reason you get hurt out there."
It wasn't a request, more of a demand, and they nodded numbly. "Okay. Sorry." They paused, almost vibrating with embarrassment. "Thank you, Shadowheart. For, um, caring, and trusting my decision."
"I think it's an incredibly stupid one, but we need all the help we can get, even from such pests." She hissed at Astarion before sighing, turning towards her tent. "And do wash up, Astarion. You look abysmal like that."
"Maybe to you! Tav seems to like it well enough." He was grinning wolfishly at them, eyebrow cocked.
They smothered a distraught noise in their hands, hiding. "Why did you do that?" They whined. "Now everyone knows."
"Are you ashamed, darling?" His tone had been jovial, teasing, but there was an edge in it.
"I mean, no, not exactly. It's just… we had a nice system and no one knew. They wouldn't say anything about it…" They were struggling again to sort out their feelings.
"Pet, they were going to notice the bandage never being taken off and always freshly applied." He was patting their head much like one comforts a sulking cat. "Besides, that was a far more fun reveal than letting them slowly piece it together."
"Then why do I feel mortified?" They groaned, dragging their hands over their face.
"You're a sweet, innocent creature unused to having such a devilishly charming specimen like myself showering you with affections." He offered brightly, linking an arm with theirs and leading them towards the water's edge.
"You are incorrigible." Tav sighed, begrudgingly letting themselves be pulled away from the warm fire.
"In all the best ways." He winked, flashing them a brilliant smile.
They nudged him playfully with their elbow and he laughed, the sound fresh and crisp to their ears. It caused their unease to melt instantly, a happy hum escaping them. They lingered a few steps behind him on the pebbled shore, perching on a rock as he knelt down. A hand hovered over the water, almost nervous, before he pressed it into the cold current. They thought idly how it must be a wonder for him, being in the sun and enjoying moving water without pain or worse. How the world must be so much fuller than he was used to. As he pressed handfuls of water to his lips, ruby streams washing away, they simply watched. The morning sun danced as silver light through his hair, glimmering in his crimson eyes, and shimmering in the water droplets he was wiping clean. He was dazzling in the daylight. It was easy to understand how so many had become his victims. There was a nagging worry in the back of their mind, wondering if they were simply his next mark. But then he was looking at them, that knowing smirk on his lips and crooked brow taunting and they couldn't help but smile.
"Enjoying yourself over there?" He teased, running a wet hand through his curls. "I am a rather distracting sight, aren't I?"
"The sun suits you." They murmured, lost for a moment in thought. "You're beautiful in its light."
He blinked at them, the usual charm melting away from the blunt compliment before it reasserted itself. He mimed an exaggerated swoon, grinning. "You can call me whatever you like if you keep showering me with such glowing compliments." Their mood seemed to fall at that, brows furrowing, and he let out a questioning hum as he stood to face them. "What is it, darling?"
They wrapped their arms around themselves, as if finally feeling the cold morning air. "Doesn't it bother you?" Their voice wavered slightly as they tried to delicately pick their words. "How people call you such terrible things, with such ugly sounds?"
He sighed, propping a hand on his hip as the other waved in the air. "I stopped dedicating so much energy to that decades ago. I'm achingly gorgeous and it's obvious they all know it, I see it in their eyes, hear it in how their hearts skip in my presence. What do I care if they call me spawn or leech when I know they're furious over how beautiful I am?" His free hand came to rest under his chin, framing his face as he fluttered delicate eyelashes at them. "I'd love it if they would simply flatter me like I deserve, but with their own bodies betraying their want, the scathing names can be just as enjoyable."
They were searching his face as he preened, trying to peel back the honeyed words to find the core of the feeling. There was a hollowness to him that they just couldn't quite place. A mechanical touch to his every move that was steadily confusing them the more time they spent together. It felt like a front of sorts, though they didn't quite grasp why he was always throwing it up. They wanted to reach out to him, cradle his face with tender hands and soothe whatever roiling ocean thrashed below his surface. They wanted to understand why he was always on the defense, dancing around them and keeping them at arm’s length.
Their mouth moved silently, awkwardly trying to form the desire into words. But their heart stuttered with fear, afraid that questioning him would cause him to dance further away, to melt into the sunlight and disappear. So instead they bit their lip, head bowing slightly as their hands tangled together in their lap. "It bothers me." They offered meekly. "We're supposed to be a team, helping each other get through this, but still they resort to such… such name-calling and bitterness. You haven't done anything to deserve being dismissed with spawn. You aren't a leech for needing blood to live. You aren't a pest simply because of your concern for yourself. Being different," their voice faltered, quiet, "doesn't make you less than others."
The rocks hadn't made a sound as he closed the distance between them, the only indication of his presence the shadow he cast and the cool touch of his hand on their cheek. He kneeled before them, ducking his head to theirs so his crimson eyes could meet their gaze, half lidded and searching. His thumb swept over over their lips, a smile gracing his own. "I do not care what they say. What need have I for their opinions when I have such sublime notions for me falling from your lips? Their praise is hollow compared to my name on your tongue. Your smile banishes all their petty jealousy like the sun banishes the rains. The world pales in comparison to your divine laugh." He was leaning in closer now, head tilted to the side slightly, mouth almost brushing theirs as his voice fell to a hush. "If I could have you, my sweet, then I would want for nothing."
They didn’t move as he kissed them, his hand sliding to the back of their head to press more firmly. They were too overwhelmed, too baffled at this turn of events. He was a helpless flirt, but he was like that to everyone. They weren’t special, they hadn’t thought they were so special. Yet it still felt like a performance, like he had rehearsed those lines in the mirror for a month straight before offering them up. As his fangs nipped at their lips, his tongue searching to pass them, their face contorted unhappily. Their hands pressed against his chest, pushing back against his advance as a displeased hum vibrated through them. He pulled back sharply, a mess of emotions on display. Foremost was sheer terror before it instantly warped into confused anger, indigent at their response. It was as if he had never been denied before.
It caused them to pause, their annoyance melting to panicked realization. He would misunderstand, had misunderstood. They hadn’t meant to walk him down this road, not like this. They never did. Their hands scrambled on the rock as they pulled themselves to their feet, taking large steps back and gulping for air. His own motions were slow, measured as he stood, head tilted in accusation and a sharp glint in his eyes. He pressed a hand to his chest, bowing ever so slightly as the other swept away from him.
“I didn’t mean to startle you.” He husked, an almost uncertain lilt to his voice. “I can be slower, gentler if that’s what you want.”
Something about the way he said want rang with a sour note to them. They shook their head adamantly, hands held up in defense before them. Rocks ground under their foot as their weight shifted, anxiety buzzing through their skull as they struggled against the turmoil brewing in their heart. He seemed to falter slightly, the corner of his mouth twitching in disbelief.
“Did you want me to be more forceful?” There was a purr now to his voice, a fascination.
Their whole body almost shook with their abject refusal, one hand holding up a finger begging him to just wait. They needed a moment to find the key for the locked door their voice had fled behind. He let out an almost exasperated sigh, his shoulders jumping with the breath before his hands were perched back on his hips.
“Well, what do you want then?” He was almost whining now, pouting at them. “I’m very flexible, I’ll have you know. Whatever you desire, I’m sure I can manage it.”
“Stop.”Their voice was so small, barely above a whisper as they trembled. “I want you to stop.”
And he did. He froze for a moment, blinking in the morning light, mouth slightly agape before the gears began to turn once more. He held his hands up this time, taking a step back and dipping his head towards them. “Of course, pet. Whatever you want.”
Still, still, it struck them as wrong. They screwed their eyes shut, forcing out long, agonizingly slow breaths. They brushed their hands over their face, tangling their fingers in their hair before letting out a last lengthy exhale. They were still trembling, but their eyes were firm as they opened and fixed on him.
“I didn’t mean,” they started slowly, voice shivering, “to make you think I wanted that. I…” And they trailed off as a wall went up in him, a cold wave washing through them. “I’m not like other people when it comes to this. I’m not- not disinterested, I just…” They floundered, a hand churning the air. “People usually are interested so fast in each other, right? Love at first sight and bodies aflame for each other. I don’t… I don’t experience that. Not like others. It’s…” They pulled in a gulping breath, eyes skittering to the ground so they wouldn’t have to see his expression morph like all the others. “I don’t fall like that. I’m- I’m slower. I need more time. I need to know you better before…” Their voice failed, bitter memories bubbling up and they blinked stinging eyes. “People don’t like waiting, usually, on a maybe. I understand if you’re upset-”
They jumped as his hand was back on their cheek, startled at how quickly and silently he was back in front of them. “It doesn’t have to be love.” He murmured. “It can just be physical, if you want.” He was cradling their head in both his hands, holding their gaze up to his. He was leaning down again and they shook. “Let me take care of you, repay you.”
Their hands shot back up to his chest, pushing sharply as they pulled their face away. Realization shot through them like they were a tree in a lightning storm. Things started to fall into place, his words and tone suddenly making sense. Repay you. The performance, the words, the touches, they were meant as a transaction. What in the world was he hoping to buy from them? What made him feel like he owed them? He was scandalized again, this time anger showing true on his face, but there was a desperation in his eyes.
“I’m sorry,” they babbled instantly, so, so scared he would leave, “I’m sorry, Astarion. I…” They were lost in his hurt gaze, struggling to find land in the roiling ocean. They swallowed thickly, blinking away tears. “You don’t have to repay anything. I’ve done nothing…” They faltered, a hazy memory of a night, days prior, coming back. This is a gift. It was like a floodgate opened in them, their words coming too fast, too numerous. “Oh, Astarion, no. No, no, no, it’s not- you don’t have to do anything- I gave my blood freely!”
“Nothing is free.” His words came out sharp like a dagger, cutting, before he softened. He almost crooned. “It’s easier like this, isn’t it? I promise, you’ll have a night you’ll never forget.”
“Will you forget it, then?” The question fell unbidden from their lips, regret causing their hand to cover their mouth instantly. A strange look came over him and they were back to apologizing on loop. “Sorry, I’m sorry, I wasn’t thinking. I-,” they paused, taking a breath to try and silence their thundering heart, “I don’t want you doing something you don’t want because you feel you owe me. I’ll always let you have my blood, even if you never speak to me again after this. You’re a dear friend to me and I want to help. Honestly, I just like having you around so if you need to pay me back somehow, then can you just… stay?”
“Stay?” He echoed, a curious grin pulling at his mouth. “What do you mean? At your side or in camp, or-”
“Just stay, here, in general. Don’t disappear one day and never come back. Don’t- don’t go so far into yourself that you never return.” They almost hiccuped in the next breath, a bitterness spilling free in their chest. “Don’t just nod along and then abandon me. Don’t leave me alone. Please.”
His head tilted to the side, faint confusion in his eyes. “And that’s what you want?”
They nodded mutely, hands clenching and unclenching at their side. “A-and maybe, later, in the future, if I decide I do want you like that, that I want more, then we can… if you also want it. If you’re okay with maybe.”
He stood in silence, eyes drifting from head to toe of them before he let out a dramatic sigh, shrugging. “Then I suppose I am yours in maybe.” The playful charm was quick to return to his eyes, his grin flashing fangs. “But I will not be relenting in my attempts to charm you into a memorable night. You’re too much fun.”
A nervous laugh bubbled in their throat, gaze falling to the ground out of embarrassment. “Now that I know of your interest, that… that’ll change my reaction.” And they scrubbed a hand over their face as he laughed in pure delight at their flustered reaction. “And, if drinking my blood makes you feel… like you owe me, then, I don’t know… Maybe we can find another way to sate you that isn’t so guilt ridden?”
This time his laugh was all breath, rumbling deep in his chest. “I think you will find I am very hard to sate, pet.” They couldn’t help the blush his tone caused and his grin was wolfish. “But, if you aren’t too squeamish, I could simply take a bite out of the next vagabond that draws their weapon on us. They’re dead either way.”
They weren’t especially keen to see just how vicious a vampire bite could be, but it was a good fix. Plus the party wouldn’t be so mad at him for using them as a snack. They bobbed their head. “That should work. But!” Their hand shot out to catch his sleeve, tugging slightly. “But, if you can’t get to someone in a fight, then you can still ask me. I don’t want you to go hungry. We can figure out ‘payments’ beforehand if you want. I just…”
He crooked a hand under their chin, his other wrapping around to the small of their back and pulling them snug to his chest. “Darling, you don’t have to say. I know you enjoy getting bitten. You were shaking so adorably last night it was hard not to notice.” He tilted their head to the side before ghosting a kiss to their neck, just above the bandage. “I may sneak a nibble from time to time, if you permit. You are simply too delectable to ignore.”
They let out a nervous laugh, gently pushing him away. “Okay, but does it always have to be the neck? This thing is itchy.”
His hand traced down their throat, fingers dancing along their pulse. “You could always just let the world know you’re mine.” They flapped a hand at the contact, shivering, and he let his hand drop to theirs. He pressed their palm to his cheek, placing a kiss on their wrist. “But yes, I could bite elsewhere. There are more discreet places, even, if you take me up on my offer.”
“Oh gods, you’re terrible.” Their free hand was trembling at their temple as they tried to look everywhere but at the vampire’s eyes. “I trust you won’t take advantage of me?”
He paused, brow furrowing for a second before the emotion was smoothed away. “Only in the ways you let me.” He let their hand fall free, smirking still. “Only as you want.”
They huffed at him, shaking their head. “You know what I want right now?” He didn’t answer, his eyes simply narrowing slightly, waiting. “Breakfast. I can smell it cooking. And since you already ate… whatever you found today, you can’t fault me for wanting my own meal.”
The usual taunting smile was back on his lips as he turned back towards camp, an arm crooked invitingly to them. “A stray wolf, separated from its pack and too close to the camp, considering how useless their presence makes our resident cleric. I elected to remove the problem before everyone woke up to her screaming.”
“And then you picked a fight with her and woke Karlach up anyways.” They sighed, taking his arm.
“Hm, well, she was being very rude and it’s fun to needle her.” He hummed, eyes crinkling with his amusement.
“So you do care, just a little, what they think of you.”
“Just a little.” He conceded before a wicked grin spread across his face. “And if you tell anyone that, I’ll start revealing every little bite I give you.”
They let out a strangled whine and banged a fist weakly against his arm as he laughed, letting him lead them back to the fire where their companions were starting to settle down for a proper meal together.

Jack Jack - my tav for the "jack of all trades" achievement!
My urge to info dump about an oc won so now please, meet my son: Jack Jack (I don't know how to make a good blog post on tumblr, so I apologize if the images are a little too big)
Tumblr media
JJ wasn't born a tiefling. He actually came from a family of humans, but he has no recollection of it outside of his father and grandparents, whom he hates with all his heart
At the age of 6, his father disobeyed his patron (for a good reason, but he doesn't know that, hehe). But instead of punishing his father directly, JJ was the target. He was turned into a Mephistopheles tiefling that day, and his family was horrified. He remembers the look of pure hatred and fear from his grandparents, shouting at him, saying he was now a devil. He doesn't remember his father's face, but he remembers his fingers, pointing at the door, and his husky voice "get out"
Since then, he had to live at the city of Baldur's Gate all by himself. He had some friends, partners, and even a mentor (which the dream visitor had taken form of)... but he never got back what he lost that day: love and identity
He spent a good portion of his life, mainly his adolescence, trying to "fit in". He even cut his horns off, which he regretted later down the road as he's now more confident in who he is. Beeing cursed by a devil at the age of 6, as one might imagine, was no easy feat. And aside from gaining an appearance that everyone deemed as "hellspawn", he also gained powers. Powers in which he can not control very well, but powers nonetheless (sorcerer wild magic)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After a whole life of stealing, performing, trying out magic and needing to run because uh oh you accidentally sumoned a troll in a bar! He... well, his life continued shit, but he never gave up. He had some not so trustworthy friends, but hey, as long as they're not a devil or a warlock, he's a very social guy!
Before he was captured by the mindflayers, he was actually planning on traveling around! He wanted to get all his skills worked on. Maybe study a bit more of his magic, as a wizard.... maybe becoming a bard with his musical talent... hell, maybe he'd finally accept his calling for the rogue life! The opportunities were endless!
That is until, of course, he got a tadpole in his mind... but eh, he was planning on traveling one day anyways, so why not use this as an excuse? (definitely not frightened at all haha what do you mean?)
Tumblr media
So far, he's really enjoying his adventure! Here's what he thinks about each companion:
Lae'zel: heh, she wants to kill me! (nervously sweating and trying to do what she says because he's terrified, but also really likes her interrogation methods!)
Shadowheart: she's hiding something. She ain't fooling me...
Astarion: he's also hiding something, never EVER trust the snobs from the upper city.... unless, of course, you want their money/sleep with them. (thinks Astarion is a less hot version of him, with how similar they act. Except JJ actually has a soft spot for children and little rascals, so he'll always help them. He's more chaotic good)
Gale: i really liked him and wanted him to teach me how to do magic safely, but never mind! He just ate my magic spear, which doesn't seem very safe...
Wyll: he makes me angry with how he challenges my morals, okay? you shouldn't be nice! You're a warlock! (has a mental breakdown watching Wyll get transformed like he did and wonders if his father was a good man like Wyll all along)
Karlach: I was deadset on killing her... turns out she's not a devil! just a person like me! i really like her (wants to kill Zariel and enter rage like Karlach one day)
BONUS:
Tumblr media
He knew damn well what he was getting into but opened the door anyways and said he was gonna write a smut about it (he's batshit insane)
Anyways... I guess that's it. That's all I have for now, I haven't progressed much into the game... sorry if his information is a little scattered around, I don't have it organized and probably didn't mention somethings (he chose his name, for example)

Bg3 fluff for non-ao3 people
Tav - Tiefling Bard
Tav x Gale
Bg3 act 3 spoilers
The group returned to camp. An eventful day of scouring Baldur's Gate for resources and allies. Tav traveled with Gale, Wyll, and Shadowheart that day. They'd managed to investigate a series of murders around town and it all ended in a high end tailor's shop. Covered in blood, they begin removing armor and packs first thing.
Karlach bounded up with Scratch and the owlbear cub in tow. "Hey-oh! My people! Out having all the fun."
"I got you a bear," Wyll said, pulling a small toy bear with switched eyes from his armor.
Tav laughed and set a bag of jewelry and bobbles on the table where Astarion sat. With a book in hand and a glass of wine chilling in one of the glasses Gale enchanted. He was waiting for them, though he appeared disinterested, enraptured by his book.
"My gods, you're perfect!" Karlach jumped up, sure that Wyll would catch her. He swung her around easily, using his dancer's feet to offset the force.
"Astarion, I brought you some stones to appraise." Passing judgements was one of Astarion's favorite past times.
"How did it go? Traversing Baldur's Gate without me?" Astarion asked, ignoring the bag.
"We're all Baldurians," Shadowheart pointed out, pulling off her gloves.
"Well, you hardly count my dear because you don't have a memory." Astarion responded.
"I lost "some" memories, Astarion," She snapped back.
"Wyll hasn't been home in years and lets face it Gale is Gale."
"Meaning?" Gale asked, an eyebrow arched.
"Wizards are absent minded," Astarion replied.
"You cast wizard spells, you know," Gale said. "I helped you learn how to shoot beams of fire at multiple opponents."
"But at heart, I'm a rogue." Astarion replied, his hand flattened against his chest.
"And me?" Tav asked. "I suppose I'm too doe eyed over the wizard to know my way around the city i grew up?"
"No, I think you know the city, you just don't know the darker corners like I do." Astarion admitted.
"That's probably true," Tav answered. "But, we did pretty well today. Where's Lae'zel? I found a sword that's completely unbalanced, she's going to flip."
"You've come to taunt me with the ineptitude of your smith's, an interesting strategy." Lae'zel appeared from behind her tent, her hair damp from training.
"So, Tav, tell me, how many?" Astarion asked, rolling his glass over his fingers.
"What?" Tav asked, a mask of bemusement.
"How many lockpicks did you use without me?"
"Eight," Tav spat out begrudgingly.
"Eight! My gods, a good day for you then was it. Seems being a jack of all trades doesn't necessarily make one skilled at anything, does it? You do sing pretty though."
"Astarion," Karlach said his name like a warning.
"I'm just making an observation," Astarion continued. "I use two lockpicks tops most days that I adventure with you, yet you insist on leaving me here, my gifts languishing."
"You love to lounge in your tent," Tav noted.
"I was only thinking of your scarce inventory. Burn through as many lockpicks as you like, I'm not the groups treasurer." Astarion lifted the bag of jewels and begins sifting through them.
"We'll need you tomorrow certainly," Tav said. "We're going to murderize that damned steal watch then break into the newspaper."
"How fun," Astarion bobbed his head from side to side with amusement. "Maybe I'll find a horrid guard to bite. One whose had too much bree I think."
"Most guards can't afford bree," Wyll commented.
"Look my love, a scroll of knock," Gale held the parchment up for Tav to see. "I could learn it right now and cast it right away."
"That's great," Tav threw an arm around Gale's neck kissing his cheek.
"Yes thats great. I'm sure it'll help that one time a day you can use it. " Astarion's good mood evaporating as his temper is ruffled. "The very idea that a scroll could replace my talents is offensive and you should all be ashamed."
"I can use it as many times as I like." Gale said.
"You really are trying to take all my fun, wizard." Astarion's hand shot out pointing to Shadowheart. "I'm sure you learned some memory spells under your former God."
"Yes a few." Shadowheart answered, confused at what Astarion was getting at.
"Good, Lae'zel, hold the mage down. He won't be remembering much." Astarion's gaze threatening as it landed on Gale.
"Maybe we can also get rid of his detestable earing." Lae'zel stepped forward, her training sword at her side still.
"Well, I wasn't going to tear into his appearances..." Astarion said, taken aback at first.
"He wears the symbol of his former lover," Lae'zel said, he fury boiling. "Mystra, a manipulation queen who would have him end his own life. He parades her token blatantly while wooing Tav with nonsense about stars. I've been to the tears, I've smelt them as they burn across your sky. They are not baubles for your vain seductions."
"I'm right here, folks," Tav pointed out.
"Mystra is magic," Gale stuttered, growing concern in his words. "... and I wield magic. It's not uncommon to wear a charm for the goddess."
"One whom you bedded," Astarion's smirked as he rhetorically pored oil over the fire. Things were going in a different direction, but he could work with it.
"Tav hasn't complained," Gale said, his eyes resting on the bard.
"Of course not, they're the nice one, remember?" Shadowheart said, her arms crossed.
"Tav? Does it bother you?" Gale asked, his voice thin with worry.
"I'm not going to tell you how to dress." Tav said avoiding eye contact. "It's not really about the fact that you bedded her, Gale," Tav said holding up her hands. "It's about the fact that she's terrible and she used you and threw you away."
"You shouldn't waste time honoring gods who would ignore you so easily." Shadowheart chimed in.
"You know what would make this better?" Karlach asked. "Let's go kill mystra."
"Now, hold on," Gale said. "Mystra is magic. You can't kill magic."
"You know I think of the word "can't" as a challenge at times," Tav smiled teasingly.
"My work here is done," Astarion gathered his wine, book, and the bag of jewels. "I need to go rest up for tomorrow. Lots of locks waiting. Maybe a few spells if you decided to leave the extra baggage at home, Tav."
Lae'zel remained beside Tav, her arms crossed as she glared at Gale's earing as Astarion sauntered away to lounge in his tent.

I’m glad you mentioned about Sean viewing Randgrid differently after his bad ending because I have definitely thought about how he’d be around his fellow Merry Men after his bad ending. Bad ending Sean would be very hateful towards anyone who doesn’t agree with him or anyone who even ever had a past of selfishness and greediness. He’d take low shots at people’s background “Zarek wasn’t your mother so consumed by greed they turned you into one of those statue actors on the street?” Stuff like that. Him hating Randgrid because she is the spawn of a dragon would also show how far he’s fallen because I always imagined him believing that there are no naturally evil races. “All goblins are evil? Nonsense those guys just suck.” He’d turn on the companions too even if they had their good ending, Astarion and Gale for being power hungry, Wyll just for having a noble background, hell maybe even Karlach for fighting for a devil and working with Gortash even if it was against her will. If Sol was a companion he’d probably turn on her for her dragon heritage.
But enough about that the last Merry Men kid is Alfred Nikolas a goblin Artificer nicknamed Fun-Sized Fred. He is based on Tiny Tim from A Christmas Carol. He was taken in by Lord Marion (genderbent Lady Marian) as more of a protégée than an adopted child given his parents are still alive and still on good terms unlike the rest of the kids. He became a well-known artificer using the money of his version of Scrooge after he gave all his money to Fred’s family when he passed. Fred uses modified crutches to get around but they double as his weapons. Really wish they had Goblins as a race in bg3 so I could make him in it. I’ll just have to make him in Hero Forge at some point.
Okay, wait, I'm obsessed with the potential for Sean and Sol interactions. Let's play barbies with our OCs for a hot second.
Let's say by some miracle the two of them end up kinda friends in act 3. Maybe a series of failed bullying attempts from Sol that just strengthened their bond instead.
Now bad endings! Sean gets hyper-vigilant and vindictive with his judgment. Everyone is put under the microscope and all their hearts are weighted on a scale against a feather just so they wouldn't end up on his list of enemies.
What if, Sol gets their bad ending too. But since Sean bothered to befriend them, they think "oh. Maybe he belongs to my hoard."
It's basically about 2-5 years of life before they die. Might as well make the most out of it yk? So eventually after amassing all the gold and gems they want, they think it's time to round up the people they care about.
Romanced Tav tied up in gold chains in their chambers? Check.
That one druid who was nice to them and restored their flower? Check.
That dog who didn't bite them too hard when they tried to pet it after he smelled dragon on them? Check.
Now, time to get the friends.
Ascended Astarion and God Gale would be too hard for Sol to manage with their short lifespan so they'd skip them. Sharran Shadowheart would hide too well for them to find and Lae'zel is on another plane of existence serving Vlaakith.
Halsin is there, free to grab. They pass by his village and don't look back. He can stay, he's not on the list.
Minthara IS on the list however. Although they have no idea where she is in the underdark or how to get to her. Did she get killed? They'll pay some drows to search for news about her and wait.
Now Sean, he would be fun because Sol is on the list of his enemies. He would seek them out himself. Afterall it is his fault for being kind to them to the past, now they see him as a part of their hoard.
And oh they'd be so delighted, he spared them the trouble of hunting him down, how kind of him, now off to the cage.
But he just keeps escaping, it's driving them crazy how time after time he comes trying to steal from them or kill them, and they throw him in a pure gold cell and the next day he's gone.
Do they have to pin him down with magic? Curse him with a tracker? How does he keep managing it? They follow him in their dragon form and take back their gold, pick him up with their claws and return him to the hoard.
It's a constant cycle of playing tag, except it is murder and steal tag.
-
If it's their good ending they'd just be confused, there is as much dragon in them as there are wings in a fish, even their scales fell of buddy. They're fully human.
If he brings up their past, it would anger them. After all, they sacrificed? After all the effort they've put in to change? Now he brings it up? Sol would call him a hypocrite for befriending their awful self before and coming to hold them accountable now.
I doubt it would work or convince him but honestly words is all Sol has at that point. They're a low level human fighter who lost all their powerful magic, not even a family left to hide behind. They're weak and defenceless and an experienced rogue could easily take them down.
So they'd keep attempting to use their high charisma to convince him or at least distract him from their trail. They might be able to overpower him with strength, but he'd be too tricky and slippery.
Him coming after them even after their half-frienship would hurt them but they'd never show it. It wouldn't anger them.
But him going after his own family? That'd infuriate them so much because he definitely talked the whole camp's ears off before about his family and moms and how much he loves them. They'd take more offence to that than him betraying them
At least Sol knows themselves, they were shitty and deserved it, but his family weren't shitty to him. Especially if he brings up Sol's greedy family after condemning his own. They'll dig at him for being just as rotten and greedy as the rest of them.
But also, that is all hypothetical bc I'm not even sure if Sol would bother kidnapping anyone but romanced Tav, yk? Like platonic Tav wouldn't interest them and they'll just increase their security against Sean instead of putting him in their hoard.
Man Jaheira has her work cut out for her, first Ascended Astarion neighbour, then vigilante Sean lurking the streets and now a dragon-human mutant flying over the city and stealing everything.
Not mentioning corrupted Arch-Duke Wyll and the Shar cult just below the city with Justicier Shadowheart.
-
Anyway goblin guy let's goo!! When I read fun-sized-Fred, I thought of scooby doo Fred ngl. And omfg modfied crutches that actually shoot bullets? It's like that one meme with "call the hospital call the hospital...but not for me" and Fred lifts his crutches and starts firing and it's glorious.
The only one on good terms with his parents, if he is adopted I wonder if he ever thinks about his bio parents. Sol would probably encourage him to, because they feel a special connection to their kin, be it another draconic being or their actual family and would think that Alfred needs to experience it too.

Farewell Act 2
Tumblr media
After a boss fight that went far smoother and quicker than it should have, it is time to bid a farewell to these lands of darkness, and move on to the final portion of the game. I am only sad because I'm approaching the end and my precious Tadfools' adventure will be coming to a close.
(Shhh. Shhh. Everything Rosymorn Monastery totally counts for this list. Let's call it Act 1.5, because the game kept insisting that I was somehow irrevocably altering things by heading there. So it counts.)
In the spirit of tradition, before we finally reach the big city, let us reflect on the good times in ze middle:
Gale breaking my heart this entire act ♥
Swindling a researcher into taking an owlbear egg instead of a Githyanki egg (that is currently being nursemaided back at camp). Feeling guilty about the consequences of said action and trying to distract her with song while Astarion steals it back. This fails miserably.
Astarion and Ari teaming up to steal from the rudest eagles in Faerun
Ari nearly blowing up Githyanki mountain by impulsively grabbing a mace. For a puzzle she had already solved and had everything needed to do properly
Ari and Astarion splitting the party in the midst of madly fleeing for their lives from angry githyanki in order to grafitti Vlaakith's portrait as revenge for making Lae'zel cry
Alternatively, what happens if you fail a dexterity check on vandalizing Vlaakith's portrait
Gale's awkward attempts at communicating how hot he found it when Ari kicked shadow ass
Honestly? Getting jumped by the five million shadow creatures who nearly one-shotted poor Ari in a single round, because it meant the rest of the party had to get extremely creative in order to save her (including the squishiest Gale misty stepping right into heart of danger as he was the one who could get to her fastest throw a potion on her)
Accidentally breaking Wyll's heart because Ari really wanted to dance
Just poor Wyll in general getting shot down constantly. Poor guy, you'll find love at some point
Me wasting an entire Sunday because I got so offended the game locked me out of a fashionable and useful armor because I looted a chest 48 hours before a patch that fixed it, I decided to temporarily install mods to get it back. Resulting in me accidentally deleting the data folder of the game and having to reinstall the whole game
Everything about their adventure in the House of Healing
Also the entire Waning Moon Experience, including Toilet Skeleton
The most talkative door in the land
Ari shoving her hand into a writhing mass of tentacles, dislocating her shoulder in the process
The most ridiculous series of events leading up to the Gale romance scene. Ari still has a dislocated shoulder this entire time
Ari's lute playing is better than ogre sex. Apparently.
Getting banned from the Emerald Enclave by the two druid jerks because Ari dared to innocently pick up a book owned by literally no one
Gauntlet of Shar Anvil Chorus
The Spider Incident
A patch 3 bug making it so that Ari and Astarion have all of their important conversations while never making eye contact, as if they're crossing their arms and shouting supportive statements over their shoulders. A++ adds to the Frienemy Dynamic they have going on
Accidentally squishing Astarion with an elevator like Wile E Coyote. It really was an accident I swear.
The Shadowfell sequence was so epic and well done. Nothing funny about it, just very well executed all around.
Gortash's creepy collection of brains
Ari being so persuasive, she talked a devil into just going back to the hells rather than deal with her
Ari being so persuasive she made Ketheric Thorm feel bad enough about his actions that he just yeeted himself into a pit of acid
Captain Planet-style summoning The Absolute to get ready for her Bachelorette Party
Aylin and Isobel, my god, they're precious and I love them with my whole heart
Alfira asking Ari to do a duet to cheer up the kids, and just a perfect way to end this darkest of acts
Goodbye Act 2, your mood whiplash threw me for a loop. Somehow despite that, you provided almost as many crazy shenanigans as Act 1. I forgot to document half of them, and probably forgot to list even more. Despite all your gloomdark, you brought much laughter and goodtimes. And now... the Tadfools must head to their final destination.

I have received a vision while catching all the starters in the new Pokemon dlc and so it must be shared. It's time forrrrrr.....
WHICH POKEMON STARTERS EACH OF THE BALDURS GATE 3 CHARACTERS WOULD HAVE
I am basing this off the final evolutions of each starter, for example infernape instead of chimchar
1. Wyll: I believe in my heart of hearts this man would be best fucking friends with an empoleon. Not only would empoleons steal and water typing make it very effective as a shield for the week, especially against demons, but empoleons personality generally is very proud and upstanding. Like Wyll, it is proud but not prideful, not full of arrogance or superiority, but the pride of responsibility and leadership. I feel like they both represent something more than they are.
Also I think both Wyll and Empoleon are extremely cool and swag. Thats just me tho
Tumblr media
2. Lae'zel: I think Lae'zel would love a Feraligatr, and not because of any fucking jokes about what githyanki look like! I think she would deeply appreciate the ferocity and power that feraligatr has, with its incredible bite force and powerful legs. there isn't a lot in the pokedex about its personality, but I like to imagine it as a creature with a lot of loyalty, it sticks to those it has grown close to and will fight by their side until the bitter end. I think they would "spar" (read: play fight) often, with Lae'zel trying to give it more formal training, especially since totodile is known for having little control of its incredible jaw strength. I don;t think she would like that uncontrolled strength.
Tumblr media
3. Karlach: Karlach is the genesis of this stupid idea. I caught a tepig and thought, 'man, karlach would love an emboar' and I am fucking correct. Karlach obviously needed a fire type, and nothing suits her more perfectly than one of the Fire/Fighting types. Emboar not only fits her personality, but also her fighting stye, with its Black and white 2 pokedex entry saying "A flaring beard of fire is proof that it is fired up. It is adept at using many different moves." literally perfect for 'set my engine on fire and i am a master of killing diffderent varieties of demon' karlach. Not only that, but its original pokemon black entry has the line "It cares deeply about its friends." Emboar is Karlach the pokemon.
Tumblr media
4: Gale: This man needs a Delphox in his life fucking immedietly for a multitude of reasons. First of all, psychic types are genrally supposed to be smarter than your average person, so hopefully another companion like tara who would be able to keep with his smart ass. Speaking of his intelligence, we all know, despite this man's vast fucking intellect, he does not have the best foresight, making decisions that seem good in the short term, but not so great long term. Delphox can fix that! According to its X entry, it can literally see the future! let this man know if fucking with strange magic will go well or not. Also, its hidden ability is magician and its basically a witch. All in all, solid companion for Gale/
Tumblr media
5. Shadowheart: This one was a bit harder, but if we are talking about early game, still devoted to shar shadowheart, its got to be incineroar because it dont think any other starter matches incin for sheer drama value. Its literally and on fire cat that is also a pro wrestler. Also the secondary dark typing and edginess fits. If we are talking late game, Selunite shadowheart, Meganium. Maganium's whole bit is renewal and healing, giving life where it was previously taken away. The only starter that could be better at healing is primarina and that doesn't fit shadowheart as well as meganium does. I think the whole evolution line fits shadowheart pretty well as well. Starting with Chicorita, a barely sprouting flower, through Bayleef, where you can finally see the beginnings of the vibrant flower that is Meganium. I think that is somewhat mirrored in shadowhearts process of growing into herself throughout the acts, as she finds who she is without shar.
Tumblr media
6. Astarion: I think this one was the hardest for me, but I think it has to go to Decidueye. A ghost type archer whose signiture move is about taking control the battlefield by locking their opponents down? seems to fit with Astarion pretty well. The dex entry holds pretty true as well, stating that "Although (Decidueye is) basically cool and cautious, when it’s caught by surprise, it’s seized by panic." I am unsure if Decidueye is the perfect fit for astarion but the only other one I could imagine him with is greninja, but i dont think it fits as well as decidueye.
Tumblr media
Anyway! thats the main six. I might do additional ones later. The Shadowheart and Astarion ones are definitely the weakest, but I think they are still pretty good

Drik and his Companions (continued from this ask)
Figured if I have more to say I may as well just say it so here we go
Wyll: Drik and Wyll have a mutual crush on each other. It absolutely destroyed me to have to turn Wyll down in the game because they would be soooo cute together and basically perfect for each other EXCEPT for the crucial caveat that Wyll is very strictly monogamous and Drik is just funamentally not. Their friendship was a bit awkward for a bit after figuring this out. They bounced back and are now very dear friends, but there's still a tiny bit of I guess melancholy in both directions regarding what might have been
Lae'zel: She's the first of Drik's own kind that he's met since he was a toddler so that's kind of a big deal for him. He has a lot of conflicted feelings at first - he's really keen to learn about his culture and Lae'zel is keen to share, but she's also prickly, intimidating and unpredictable. He does a lot of sucking up and trying to please her because she has information he wants and that's just his habitual strategy for getting it. In time though they do develop a genuine bond as trusted and respected allies. She still makes sure to remind him daily that he's a pathetic weakling but he's figured out that's Lae'zel speak for "I care about your wellbeing and safety" and probably just responds with a cheeky "love you too" to see how severely it makes her scowl at this point
Astarion: HOO BOY. This one goes under a readmore because there is an essay worth of nonsense here.
So when I started Drik's run - this was my first time playing the game, going in almost blind - my tentative plan was that I was going to romance Astarion. Astarion very quickly made it clear this was not going to happen. For at least the first third of the game they got on each other's nerves SO bad - Drik's general tactic for getting what he wants (other than stealing) is to schmooze and flatter and "make friends" with everyone who isn't immediately hostile to him, which Astarion interpreted as genuine altruism and wrote Drik off as a soft-hearted fool. Which... he actually is, but he got annoyed at Astarion not seeing why he does things the way he does when Astarion has almost the exact same approach himself a lot of the time. Cue a lot of petty bickering.
Then to make matters worse, as they got to actually know each other, Drik quickly developed a great big crush. (Yes, he falls for people left and right - he's spent the past decade in self-imposed isolation other than family visits and he's in his early 20s. It happens lol)
Astarion mostly still thought he was an obnoxious kid and Drik was well aware of that and didn't expect the feelings to be returned. Unfortunately Astarion was also 1. a rude bastard about it and 2. saw fit to try to use him as a juice box anyway, and being a kind of self-loathing barely-adult with a weird crush, Drik obviously let him, and kept letting him. (It's anyone's guess how he even has enough blood to spare any. Thank the gods for rangers being able to self-heal)
He spent a lot of time just letting Astarion do whatever he pleased re: eating tadpoles and reading cursed books and the like, enabling him even - Astarion, effectively, achieved exactly what he was aiming to in manipulating him, and without even having to be nice about it.
Then he got slapped with the consequences when Drik developed such a complex about it that he went to Astarion and tried to apologise for taking advantage of him ("I was letting you feed on me because I was selfishly indulging in the intimacy even though I know you don't see me that way") and, subsequently, Karlach caught wind of the whole affair and had some choice words with him, and a lot of talk was had between the three of them about boundaries and expectations and treating people right.
Somehow, despite all of that, they are now practically inseparable. They still piss each other off all the time and get into stupid petty squabbles. Astarion will absolutely be asked to be best man at Drik's wedding. They would be lowkey lost without each other present in their lives in some capacity. I don't know how this happened or what you would even call their relationship. I love them.

Tell us about your Tav! Name, class and subclass, race, pronouns. Do you have a headcanon for where they're from? Their family? Are they a Dark Urge? Or did you choose an Origin Character? Was it an easy decision? (1) Their name is Valefor (Val), they're a thief mephistopheles tiefling from Baldur's Gate. Urchin background, grew up on the streets starving and poor and they've developed mild hoarding in their adult life because they had so little growing up. The decision to make a custom character was pretty easy because I already had a feel for what I wanted to do for my first character, and it was too scary to choose Dark Urge when I didn't know what that would mean. Also I thought Durge was uncustomizable lmao perception fail Has your Character been using their illithid powers? (3) Only in very specific situations where they've exhausted their other options, until they found out they could use some of them in battle. They've been freely using things like Tadpole Charm to keep out of trouble (something not easily resisted for a thief I imagine), but they've not really used their powers to influence other's minds, opting to try to persuade people instead. Val is extremely conflict avoidant and just wants everyone to get along. Even if that means that people get away with bullshit. Also they hate the idea of brainwashing people to see their point of view.
What are your Character's thoughts on the dream visitor? (23) Them being who they are (naive, autistic, unable to tell when people are lying to them), they assume the dream visitor is just a new special friend and they believe nearly everything they're told. The doubts start creeping in after visiting the Githyanki Creche and it all just escalates from there.
Has your Character done anything that they regret in Act 1? (35) They're generally not really bothered by regrets. Life happens the way it does in their eyes, and they learned early on to just accept things for what they are. That said, there's one decision that haunts them. Being talked into 'stealing' the egg from the creche. They were convinced by the woman's story of giving the child a better life, and it pulled at their heart strings and personal trauma, so they didn't think twice about it and just went and got it before handing it over. Maybe they could save this child from living the life they did. When Gale brought up later how they sent Lae'zel ahead to camp so she wouldn't see them sell the egg to the woman they had a minor breakdown. It's something that can still keep them up at night now they've arrived in Baldur's Gate. They have to ask Gale to read to them until they can fall asleep whenever it's bothering them.

Theresa "Tessa" Chastain
What if your Tav was a recruitable companion, instead of the main character?  (contains major spoilers for the game, and for some dark urge runs as well)
General
Where can your Tav be recruited?  Are they first encountered on the Nautiloid, or in the Nautiloid crash region?  Or are they not recruitable until a later act? You'd meet her at the Nautiloid crash region. She wouldn't be far from Gale and Astarion.
Do the other companions have special comments or reactions upon recruiting your Tav? For clarification, Tessa is a rogue/monk human. Shadowheart: "Another rogue. At least this one can punch, I suppose." Astarion: "Hm. Well, we'll see if she can keep up with the likes of me. I'm not holding my breath though." Gale: "A rogue monk! It'll be a delight to have one among our ranks. Smart move, recruiting her." Lae'zel: "We may be able to use her skills. I approve of her joining us, for now."
Does your Tav have any comments or advice when you recruit other companions? Shadowheart: "She's hiding something, but I guess we all are. She's just not as subtle as she thinks she is." She guesses right away Shadowheart is a Shar worshipper. She just doesn't say anything until it's out in the open. When it's revealed, "I'm not the only one who figured it out, right?" PC can agree or disagree that they figured it out before Shadowheart said anything. Astarion: "Keep your eye on that one. I have a bad feeling about him. But it's also a little hypocritical for me to come down on a fellow rogue, isn't it?" Gale: "He is quite the charmer. At least, I'm charmed by him. And I'd say having a wizard on hand would be wise. They're powerhouses." Wyll: "The Blade of the Frontiers, huh? Not how I pictured him. But if he's half as good as the stories say, we'd be smart to keep him close." Lae'zel: "I've never seen a gith in person before. I think I'll have fun traveling with her! If she doesn't take my head off." Halsin: "I had no idea an elf could get so big. And he has a big heart to match. Good move recruiting him. We're lucky to have him." Karlach: "She is absolutely darling. We have to take her with us. Look at her! She's precious and good at killing. What more can you ask for?" Minthara: "You sure about Minthara? I mean really sure? I don't know if I like her tagging along...." Minsc: "He's a little different, but you always need someone to... help think outside the box! I trust your judgment on this one." Jaheira: "Normally, I'd say don't meet your heroes... but Jaheira is the exception. I can't believe we get to travel with her!"
What sort of general actions raise or lower their approval? She's fond of kindness in general. She has a bit of a Robin Hood complex. However, she also approves of stealing a lot. She's not perfect by any means.
Are there any instances where your Tav can permanently leave the party, depending on player character actions? If you push her too far and pick the meanest options, she'll eventually hit her limit and leave.
Do they have any secrets that can be revealed?  What are the prerequisites for this secret coming to light? If PC gets high enough approval, she'll eventually reveal her father is a renowned member of the Zhentarim. She's from Icewind Dale so a lot of the local members don't know who she is by sight alone. She's already "part of the family" even if she doesn't reveal it to anyone. PC can also pry it out of her when they cross paths with the Zhentarim for the first time. If they catch her acting weird and call her out on it, they can try to persuade or intimidate the truth out of her.
Do they have their own personal quest that spans the course of the game?  Can it take different branching paths depending on the choices the Player Character makes? She does. Hers would involve her father, Edogard, and the Zhentarim. It can change based on how you interact with the Zhentarim members throughout the game, especially the hideout at Waukeen's Rest. It also changes on if you get Tessa to confess her past. Her father can also betray PC if he sees monetary gain in it. (This includes turning on his own daughter.) PC can potentially talk him out of it and get him to not, you know, let his daughter die for money. If found and persuaded, Edogard, Leander, and Blue can potentially help in the fight against the Absolute. Edogard will give you a whistle to summon them.
What do they say when the Player Character asks them to stay in camp?  How about when the Player Character asks them to come adventuring again? Stay: "You sure about that?" If you're sure: "If you say so. I'll be at the ready when you need me." Come: "Yes! I can't wait to get out there and bash some cultist heads."
Does your Tav have any escalating conflicts with one of the other companions, like Lae’zel and Shadowheart’s knife-fight? She doesn't. She's surprisingly good at keeping her cool. She's the one who tries to deescalate everything.
Are there any unique NPCs associated with your Tav that can show up during the course of the game? There are a few if you head to the right location and dig deep into the Zhentarim. PC will meet her parents, Edogard and Sibyl. PC can also meet her twin brother, Leander, or her winter wolf, Blue.
Are there any moments in the game that trigger unique dialogue for your character? (Like Gale’s anecdote about the barfight after you save the goblin prisoner)  You can trigger unique dialogue with almost any interaction with the Zhentarim. It depends on if she's confessed she's from a Zhentarim family or not, too. She'll tell stories from her childhood or about her relatives. She'll confess she went on her first "job" when she was ten.
Story Specific
How does your Tav advise the player character when it comes to the Dream Visitor? "You had the dream, too? I think we should listen to what they have to say. They're protecting us for a reason so let's be cautiously optimistic about it. Keyword: Cautiously."
How do they advise the player character on Raphael? "I don't like this. Why is he so interested in us? Something's fishy. No matter what happens, we cannot make a deal with him."
How do they react to Astarion biting the Player Character? "We were traveling with a vampire the whole time? Seems obvious in hindsight. Well, as long as he keeps his fangs to himself, it's fine by me."
How do they react to the Player Character letting Abdirak whip them? "It's not quite my thing, but please, go ahead and enjoy yourself. Try not to get too beat up. We still need you in one piece."
How do they react to the Player Character taking their first tadpole power? "Gods. I never thought I'd see anyone voluntarily put one of those things in their skull, let alone more. But it could prove to be useful. You'll tell me if you start feeling weird, right?"
Will they stay with the Player Character regardless of siding with the goblins or the tieflings, or is it possible for them to leave the party permanently? She leaves if you kill the tieflings. She will also leave permanently if you get too evil.
What can they be found doing at the tiefling/goblin party? She'd be taking some time to herself at her tent with a glass of wine. In her younger days, she was a wild child who'd be dancing and getting drunk. Now she just likes to sit back and watch the festivities. She can be persuaded to join in by PC though.
Do they have comments on who the Player Character chooses to spend the night with?  She wishes PC good luck with whoever they pick. She would have something nice to say about everyone. This is a party full of hotties. She tells PC that if anyone breaks their heart to let her know and she'll take care of it.
Do they have unique dialogue if the Player Character lets them die when they steal the Blood of Lathander? "Wow. Wow. You just... up and got me killed. I just have one question. WHY?" If Tav says they'll be more careful next time: "You're planning a next time?!"
How do they react if the PC licks the dead spider in the Gauntlet of Shar? "Wait... No! You put that down!" If you lick it a second time, "Gods, what in the bloody hells is wrong with you?" If romanced, "I hope you don't expect me to kiss you after this."
What do they say if the PC tries to force them to go up on stage with Dribbles the Clown? First sees Dribbles: "You know, there's a whole art to clowning? It can be a really beautiful art form.... Not what he's doing. What he's doing is a shitshow." Offers to send her up: "What? No, no thank you. I'm fine right here." Forced to go up: "Fine. But you owe me big time for this."
Is it possible for your Tav to be kidnapped and replaced by Orin?  How is Orin's deception revealed?  How do they react to the PC rescuing them in the Temple of Bhaal? It is. Orin would struggle to get a hold of Tessa's personality. Orin would have Tessa have a meltdown about being a bad person who wasted her life. Orin understands what her fears are, but not how she'd act on them. When rescued, she'd say something like, "Dear Gods, what is this place.... It smells worse than it looks."
How do they react to the PC either allowing Astarion to ascend or convincing him to spare the 7000 spawn? Ascend: "Today feels like a very dark day. One that's going to haunt me to the grave." Spare the Spawn: "I hope this was the right thing to do. I don't want to kill them, but I don't want anyone else getting hurt either."
How does Tav react to the PC becoming a mind flayer?  Can they offer to become one themselves?  Does their reaction change if they’re romanced?  She'd be a little alarmed, but supportive of PC. She would never become a mind flayer herself though. If romanced, she'll stay by their side no matter what. She might even find them cute.
How do they react when the Dark Urge first reveals their amnesia and murderous thoughts to them? "This might be the tadpole's doing. Mine hasn't done anything like that, but it doesn't mean it won't. We should all keep an eye on each other. A close eye."
How do they react to the Dark Urge killing Alfira? "Dear Gods... that poor girl. Why? Why would you do this?" She'd also say things like "I thought we were safe here. Safe as you can get in situations like this. I feel so vulnerable."
If romanced, how do they react to the Dark Urge trying to kill them in Act 2? She's scared at first, but powers through it to take care of PC. "Hey, it's gonna be okay. I'll be right here with you. Whatever you need, I will provide."
Romance
Is your Tav a romanceable character?  Are there any specific requirements to romancing them? She is. She's another one you just have to gain approval from. She responds well to kindness and affirmation.
Does your Tav need to be flirted with to start the romance, or will they approach the PC themselves if approval is high enough? She can be oblivious so flirting is crucial to get her to realize you want her. (In my play through, I imagine she didn't realize Gale was trying to flirt with her when teaching her magic at first.)
Are they a polyamorous or a monogamous option? She is a monogamous kind of gal. She doesn't judge people who are poly. It's just not for her.
Do they have a special romance scene at the tiefling/goblin party? Yes, you can get her to spend the night with you, but she's a romantic. She'll want something soft and sweet.
Does the romance have different branching paths, or just one route to take? There are two, at least. One option, you can follow her into a life of crime and keep her in the Zhentarim. The other option is that you can talk her into settling down with you and leaving crime behind once the adventure is over.
How do they react to the player character breaking up with them, or choosing another character over them? She's hurt. It breaks her heart, but she wishes you well. She has a very "smile though your heart is aching" approach to it. She's been broken up with many times before. She's a pro at it. She'll try to find the bright side to it and tell PC to take care of their heart.
What questions can Zethino ask the PC about Tav in the Love Test?  "Many things delight the heart, but only one makes it sing. Tell me, what does she desire more than anything?" 1. To steal as much as possible 2. To become a writer ★ 3. Love ★ "Listen. Think. When is she most comfortable?" 1. When she's at home with people she loves ★ 2. At the library with plenty of books to read ★ 3. In a Zhentarim hideout "We often gaze through a veil of roses, but love accepts both the petal and the thorn. Tessa - what is her greatest flaw?" 1. She falls in love too easily. ★ 2. She's not that bright. 3. She's a horrible, rotten thief! 4. She's impatient and doesn't look before she leaps. ★
If they’re poly, do they have a reaction to the PC engaging in a relationship with Halsin? She's not poly so it just kind of hurts her. She tells PC that she can pursue something with her or him, but not both.
How do they react if the PC has sex with Mizora? The Emperor?  Haarlep? She'd break up with them. It has nothing to do with who it is, but the fact they did it at all. She's been cheated on before so it'd be really rough. If PC is an ass, she can possibly leave the group over it.
Will they join in with the PC and the Drow Twins, or no? It makes her uncomfortable, so no. Sleeping with them will also damage the relationship and she'll break up with PC.
What are Tav’s plans for the future?  Do they propose to the PC, or is marriage not something they’re interested in? She wants to get married. She can take or leave having kids, but she'd rather adopt if they go that route.
Free space! Share anything from your companion!Tav au! She's one of my only Tavs that only exists in the BG3 universe haha. I'd love to have original art of her someday, though. Or even play her in a proper TTRPG.

Hello. I would like to know about the special teifling. I hear lying comes so easily to their forked tongue.
2-4 (please I must know about the family dynamics, please), 15, 16, and 23
(๑¯﹀¯๑)
HI BESTIE and favorite person to complain about this game with <3333
Lying comes SO easily to their forked tongue. I forgot abt it until I started playing as them again and Asty got inspired three separate times in the span of a few hours. He loves it when his boygirlfriend lies
2. Does your Tav have any siblings? Are they close?
Eins has a younger half-sister! They're not super close because they became half-siblings when Eins was already an adult but they're very affectionate w their family so they'd still kill for her... she's in her angsty teen phase now but Eins is unflappable so they're still like Yay family time ^_^ I love my sister who wants to kill me sometimes <333
3. Who was your Tav raised by?
Eins' mom is a cambion and their dad is a Zariel tiefling, so I'd like to think other tieflings recognize they've got a little more devil in them than most... I do think the vestigial wings they have in-game eventually sprout to become small wings- not large enough to fly with but enough to be really cute. Now they gotta DIY their outfits to be backless. But their parents divorced when they were young so Eins was mostly raised by their mom and her new Halfling wife!!! They're so in love it warms Eins' heart but could be sickening to the cynical crowd...
4. Is your Tav close with whoever raised them?
Eins doesn't stay in touch with their dad but DOES stay in touch w their moms... until the tadpole. They were too afraid to write- What would they write? Would their parents try to come looking for them and only find a mind flayer? Would it put them in danger?- so I imagine they come home one night after months of no communications and get the biggest earful of their life...
15. Answered this so I'll answer number... 9! Eins has the criminal backstory, which for me amounts to doing odd, less than legal jobs, occasionally stealing, and making temporary allegiances whenever it suited them... it was generally in pursuit of the greater good though. They've used their skills as a fighter to intimidate patriars, worked construction for a while, worked at a clothier until the store owner realized they were just giving outfits away for free and didn't gaf about making any profit... what a rascal
16. What's your Tav's favorite childhood memory?
Probably festival time!!! IDK what festivals are like in Baldur's Gate but I love the idea of little Eins dressing up to go listen to music and dance <3 they have music in their SOUL they should have been a bard TBH but they lack any and all musical talent. Kind of unrelated but when they make you play a song to [character you haven't met yet so I won't spoil it] I imagined it going just abysmally, real charlie kelly energy, so someone else had to step in and finish the job LMAO.
23. Share any hcs/anything you want to say about your Tav's backstory
HMMMMM well pre magic mirror update I had the headcanon that Eins changed their primary sex characteristics at random depending on the day (which has now become canon, thanks Larian!). They love sweetbreads, sometimes they lie about stupid things that don't matter just to see if anyone notices, they love to sing when they travel which used to get on everyone's nerves but once they all got a little closer it became charming, even to lae'zel (one of their closest friends who loves to hate on them all the time)
Also for a more serious headcanon I imagine that shortly after meeting Sebastian in Cazador's crypts Eins runs into a friend of theirs in that same cell, who had been taken only weeks before. But suddenly it all feels too real- the hypothetical "would it have been me in that cage?" that Astarion couldn't answer, didn't even want to think about, becomes a very resounding "yes". I think Astarion even tries to defend it- like it wasn't me! one of my siblings! she's only been in there for a few weeks!- It's the only time the companions have ever seen Eins that angry, angry at Cazador, angry at the world that let this happen, angry that so many people are considered this disposable... and they do lash out at Astarion when he tries to ascend as a result. Not one of their proudest moments, the both of them. But they came out of it OK, or as OK as they can be <3
Anyways TY and TY for sharing your run of BG3 with meeeeee I love hearing about it always and forever and thank you for letting me put Halsin's sex scene on your TV just so we could laugh at the way he leans against that tree
