a new Argiope species for me, but one that may be familiar to folks in the Americas. the Banded Garden Spider is native to North and South America, but is now also found in parts of Africa, Europe, and Australasia.
Banded Garden Spider, female (Argiope trifasciata).

A beautiful lady and her beautiful children! This is a female argiope argentata (pictured here eating a mealworm I offered to her) that lives in my grandma's garden. She survived the loss of a leg and then a violent storm so I was thrilled to see that no only she's thriving but her babies were born today, may they go on to live their best spider lives 💚

@ninefoldrin submitted: This very large friend has chosen to attach the entire base of the web to my garbage can. How bad would it be for my new friend if I detach the base of the web so I can actually take out the trash? I don't want to ruin such a beautiful spider's beautiful work, but it is very inconvenient.
She can very easily create a new web, so don't worry about damaging it! Please tell her she's beautiful though.

This is one of my favorite orbweaver photos.
