Nani regrets lashing out against Arshad Warsi for his remark about Kalki 2898 AD turned Prabhas into a ‘joker’: “My choice of words was poor”
Nani, a Telugu celebrity, is in damage control mode after his comments on Arshad Warsi generated a new scandal. Nani found himself trending online just a day after releasing the teaser for his new film, Surya's Saturday, but not for the reasons he had planned. The dispute erupted after a journalist questioned Warsi about his criticism of Prabhas' involvement in the summer movie Kalki 2898 AD. Warsi had expressed his dissatisfaction with Prabhas' portrayal on Unfiltered by Samdish, referring to him as a 'joker' and comparing him to Mel Gibson in Mad Max.
Tumblr media
Nani's initial reaction, when translated into English, appeared harsh. "The guy you are referring about must have received the maximum publicity in his life. "You are unnecessarily glorifying an insignificant issue," he was quoted as saying. While this elicited cheers from Prabhas' followers, it caused outrage from Hindi filmgoers who perceived it as an insult to Warsi.
In an interview with Mid-Day, Nani emphasized that his remarks were 'lost in translation.' He acknowledged his feelings for Prabhas and his natural desire to defend him but said that his opinion changed after watching the entire video of Warsi's interview.
"I noticed online how a language sounds when translated into English. "That happens on social media," he said. "I just heard what he had said because the chopped video was all over social media, just like mine was yesterday. See, it's about a very special person. When it's about someone you really care about, you immediately react and say, 'Why are you assigning so much importance to an inconsequential matter?' However, after seeing so many reactions on social media, I went back and watched the entire thing. So now I get it. The situation has been blown out of proportion by the media and social media. And even my reaction has been exaggerated.
Nani underlined the necessity of actors being careful with their language when making public declarations. "Arshad Warsi ji is an excellent performer, and we all adored him in Munna Bhai, not just in the north and south, but throughout India. "It's a family movie," he explained. "When we sit with our friends in our homes, we can criticize films and actors. However, as actors, we must be very careful with our word choices. So, in that way, he and I are both victims."
The actor used a hilarious analogy to describe his new film, in which the protagonist focuses his fury on a specific day. "Like Surya's Saturday, we all need to have that one day when we react and not react the same day so that we can really gauge our words much better."
Nani freely recognized his mistake and accepted responsibility for it. "My word choice was likewise terrible. The most important thing you can do is accept your regrets. But I'm also stating that it sounds so horrible when translated. In this case, the journalist was repeatedly bringing up the subject, and I was attempting to point out that they were overemphasizing it. Someone expressed their views, and there was a reply; that is how it began. One comment from either side will be blown out of proportion. And if we slipped, it's time we accepted responsibility, whether it was my or someone else's. We must go through this entire period before moving on because emotions can be strong and you may react to something and think, 'It was unnecessary, why did I react?'"
Nani respected Warsi's freedom to express his viewpoint but noted that better wording should have been used. "At the end of the day, what matters is that Kalki is a Rs. 1,000 crore film. People adore it. Of course, you don't have to like it. We all have opinions, and everyone has the right to speak to them, even Warsi. However, he should use better terms. Also, who should we correct? But someone asked for our opinion, and we responded."
Moving beyond the current debate, Nani stressed the positive ties between Bollywood and South Indian movies. "I've always been a fan of directors and actresses here, and we grew up watching their films. Fans of Telugu cinema clash on social media. Every day, you need a war-related topic. That's how they spend their mornings and evenings. This is exciting for them. But let us stop taking social media warfare seriously. When we meet, we don't consider the North-South divide. The biggest difference will be between our favorite foods and yours (laughter). In fact, we desire to learn more about each other. Cinema is quite popular right now. In 2024, there will be Indian cinema, and we will all operate as studios from various regions, producing films in various languages and distributing them throughout India. There is mutual respect, which we express whenever possible. This has now increased. That's why, I suppose, even minor events elicit more emotion because we didn't have this (love exchange) before. If such things happened every other day, no one would have noticed this one. But we've been seeing love for so long that all of these words are major news.

If such things happened every day, nobody would have noticed this one. But we've been seeing love for so long that these phrases feel revolutionary. Fans and industry professionals have both reacted negatively to this. However, Arshad Warsi has not responded to the backlash

Tumblr media
Bollywood Hungama has found more details about the shoot. A source told Bollywood Hungama, “The filming was all set to begin in Baroda, Gujarat in Laxmi Vilas Palace. This grand structure is a favourite of many filmmakers and is known for its grandeur. The source continued, “But due to certain reasons, the Baroda schedule was called off. The shooting was then shifted to Mumbai. Welcome To The Jungle will now go on floors on December 11, as planned earlier, but in Mumbai instead of the Gujarat city.”
The source also claimed that besides Akshay Kumar, all 23 other actors will also be present for the first schedule of the comic caper.

Arshad Warsi explains the difference between a connected actor and one with no connections
Arshad Warsi, being an outsider in the Bollywood community has said that if you do not belong to the community, you have to do all the struggle again once you deliver a flop. Talking about the prevalence of nepotism and favoritism in Bollywood, the actor who is making a lot of popularity for his latest release Asur 2 talked at length about the privileges that only a handful of people in Bollywood have got. He says that such people are offered several films to ensure they bring out a hit but for others, if there is one flop, it means that they will have to do all the struggle all over again.
Arshad made his Bollywood debut in 1996 with the movie Tere Mere Sapne produced by Jaya Bachchan and directed by Joy Augustine. The actor, later in his career, made a lot of progress as he worked on movies like  Munna Bhai MBBS, Lage Raho Munna Bhai, Dhamaal, Golmaal, and Ishqiya.
Talking about nepotism in Bollywood, Arshad said that it is a long upward-hill journey for an actor if he delivers one flop. "It is a sad thing but what can you do? There is a certain segment of actors, who are a little more privileged than the other segment. Yes, I am talking about kids connected to the film industry. Then some people are not connected to the industry. I can’t complain, the film industry has given me a lot, and I love it and I thank them all the time. I, every morning, thank Joy Augustine, Jaya Bachchan, and Amitabh Bachchan, because of them I have got what I have got. So, nothing against the industry but this is the norm.”
Arshad also talked about how the ones with great connections in the industry are given a lot of chances. "I am not even complaining, I accept it. The sad part is I probably would do the same things with my kids. But yes, it is a difficult thing. You have a segment of actors who will get multiple chances to give a hit and then you have another segment who do not get that. You give one flop, you are doomed; you have to struggle all the way again to get back. So that is a sad part."

IDK who else was offended but I was low-key triggered and offended when Arshad Warsi told that Prabhas was a joker in kalki. Now I absolutely loved arshad as an actor , enjoyed his works ... but once he said that he lost my respect 📉📉.. Many of u all can defend him saying that "he just expressed his opinion""he did not call prabhas personally a joker" like the fuck he didn't.. like there is a difference calling someone a joker and calling there character a one..... reality is the bollywood can't accept a telugu scoring this high. Like also others have no idea of how us prabhas fans wanted to see him in a role like this for a very long time. People want him to show variety .. but once he does they criticise him... So screw u all who criticise my man.. I will defend him tell death 😤 💀...

Queerness in Indian Media
↳Film: DEDH ISHQIYA (2014, Hindi) dir. ABHISHEK CHAUBEY
Dedh Ishqiya is a dark comedy which follows two criminals, Khalu (Naseeruddin Shah) and Babban (Arshad Warsi), who decide to con a widowed noblewoman, Begum Para (Madhuri Dixit). Unbeknownst to them, Begum Para has got a plan of her own: find a rich suitor, swindle him out of his money, then run away with her maid, Muneera (Huma Qureshi), with whom she is in love. The womens' plan takes several alarming turns, but ultimately Begum Para and Muneera are able to trick Khalu and Babban, elope together, and live happily ever after.
The lesbian relationship is loosely based off of Ismat Chughtai's 1942 short story Lihaaf, which was an extremely controversial story in British colonial India for its allusions to sexuality and lesbianism, and which resulted in the author being called for an obscenity trial. The short story includes abusive and pedophilic elements which Dedh Ishqiya does away with; instead, Begum Para and Muneera's relationship is one of mutual love between adults.
Abhishek Chaubey discusses his films, including how he came to include the "lesbian strain" in Dedh Ishqiya and how "learned friends" helped him with coding the relationship, here
The actress Madhuri Dixit has been in multiple gay and gay-coded media, both as a supportive character and as the gay character herself. She has also been supportive in real life of the LGBTQ community.

Sooooo, I just managed to watch the whole of Kalki-2898AD in one sitting today.
And what a masterpiece!!!!!
I know that reviews about the movie have been mixed, (Arshad Warsi, eyes on you, man👀👀👀) but amongst the abundant comedic relief, were to me atleast, many buried little Easter eggs and clues that only someone with a knowledge of the Mahabharata, and someone willing to look with a more thoughtful eye will catch!
Bhairava's whole characterisation is the single most largest example of this! After Ashwathama's first little flashback, the suspicion of Bhairava being Karna began to itch at me, because who else could be a greater warrior than Arjuna on the field of the Kurukshetra battle?
The first similarity I found was this.... The way Bhairava has spent a large portion of his life trying to enter an elite society simply because he believes that the circumstances he was born to are not the determiners of his capacity. The way he almost KNOWS in his heart, that he has a fate larger than this coming for him, yet blinds himself into believing that it is life at the Complex! The first mistake that Karna committed in his life is the same. His first step into adharma, was brought about by his desire to be considered equal amongst the Kshatriya warriors of the Kuru clan. To not be limited by the circumstances of his birth or upbringing as the son of a sarathi....
The second clue to me, was his attachment to Bujji!!! This one is less of a parallel, and more of an indirect clue as to the background Bhairava might have, though. Karna was the son of a charioteer, who was expected to be one too, and strongly disliked the idea of being forced to be one when his interests lay in becoming a warrior that people spoke of even eons later. And at the end of the epic war, it is his chariot again, and the kshatriya king Shalya as his charioteer that pave the way to his death! The first time Ashwathama hurls Bujji and Bhairava loses yet again, this was straight where my mind went.
Then, there are the more subtle character nuances. Karna in his time, was considered a warrior second to none, and yet people often only acknowledged him as an equal to Arjuna. And in one modern iteration of the Mahabharata that I'm not sure where I read it, Krishna says that while Arjuna competes with himself, looking only to better himself, Karna strives to be better than Arjuna. And in that, he holds himself back to Arjuna's level. A clear sign of a hyper competitive person, is that not? And the first time we see any sort of a serious don't mess with me attitude from Bhairava, is when he is losing. When he has lost. And so goes his patience with the wind, his need to be undefeated, to WIN leading him to his following chaotic course of action...
And finally, the centrepoint of Karna's story, his Identity.... Karna's whole story, his cause and consequence, his curse and his many boons, are the result of his birth, and the way it was hidden from him. Bhairava too, seems to have an origin story that he either does not know, or does not remember, instead covering it up with comedic relief sob stories (according to Bujji, not me!!!) of adoption and a Captain father, which Dulquer was sooooooooo cute in his 10 minutes of screentime! Does Bhairava have a Radha too, who brought him up as a bosom son and he refuses to give up her memory to anyone? Why at the end of the movie did he lose recollection of the climactic fight? Has he been cursed with forgetfulness and therefore does not remember the legends of his own story?
Overall Kalki 2898 AD, to those watching with an open mind and a thoughtful eye, is a minefield of curious parallels, and a reversed good vs evil that with more detail from part 2, could make for a blockbuster winning combination!!!!
PS The way he looks at Sumathi/Deepika before picking her up in his arms was so 🤯🥵🤤... And is the baby somehow his and not a result of Project K? Because I do remember Sum-80 saying she was negative after the last attempt at seeding. Curiously endless possibilities!!!!!

Akshay Kumar and Arshad Warsi to shoot for Jolly LLB 3 after completing Welcome To The Jungle: Report
Akshay Kumar and Arshad Warsi are currently shooting for the multi-starrer Jolly LLB 3.
Readers may recall that Bollywood superstars Akshay Kumar and Arshad Warsi are all set to reprise their iconic roles in the third installment, Jolly LLB 3. Well, as per the latest update, the highly anticipated film is scheduled to begin shooting in May 2024, following the completion of their ongoing project Welcome To The Jungle.
Tumblr media
A report by PinkVilla quoted a source saying, "While a schedule of Welcome To The Jungle is wrapped up, the team reunites for the second stint from March 9. A big set is being put up in Mumbai where the entire ensemble of Welcome To The Jungle comes together. It’s a major schedule of 45 days, and by April end, the Welcome 3 team would be done shooting for about 60 days."
Jolly LLB 3, also referred to as Jolly Vs Jolly, promises a fresh dynamic between Akshay and Arshad. It will be a situational comedy set within the Indian legal system, with a unique twist. The source elaborated, "It’s essentially a fight between the two Jolly’s – Akshay & Arshad – with Saurabh Shukla as the judge. The makers have zeroed in on a very relevant case, which is bigger and a lot more complicated than the earlier two Jolly LLB films."
Produced by Cape of Good Films and Disney, the film will be shot primarily in Mumbai and real locations in Rajasthan. While details about the plot remain under wraps, it is expected to be another thought-provoking case delivered with a touch of humour.
The report further added that before diving into Jolly LLB 3, Akshay Kumar will complete filming for a significant portion of Welcome To The Jungle, slated for release during Christmas 2024. Upon wrapping Jolly LLB 3, he will move on to the Sajid Nadiadwala production, Housefull 5.
