Just a little anecdotal thought:
For milder-mannered, suffer-in-silence, or less obviously "passionate" women, the whole “intense feelings” thing can go one way or another--both being extreme.
You might think a guy’s attractive, shut down completely, and avoid him like the plague because it’s too much for you to handle at that point in time (for whatever reason).
You might also find yourself acting completely out of character and realize how difficult it can be to keep that behavioral anomaly reined in.
The first one’s a miserable, self-loathing experience.
The second one’s a massive headache to deal with.
But here’s the thing: both are often indicative of something being extremely intense, which a lot of these women aren’t used to feeling at all or have trained themselves so thoroughly to let their own wants slide that it never actually occurs to them to act.
They also don’t always know how to react and will drive themselves insane either fighting it or fighting everything that feels against what they know as their nature. Neither happens with lukewarm feelings or complete lack of interest.
Speaking as a completely third party objective with no personal interest or experience in the matter, I wouldn’t be so quick to rule Lucien out of Elain’s future.
No, she’s not in love with him at this point in the story—I’m not claiming that. He’s not in love with her, either. He’s taking that step forward to meet her halfway and trying to get to know her. He wants to see if it could work since the universe tied them together anyway.
If they could love each other.
Meanwhile, poor Elain who’s had everything she knows ripped out from under her gets a mating bond slapped onto her the second she emerges from the Cauldron in an entirely new body with entirely new, extreme senses.
The bond is strong. The bond isn't lukewarm at all, and she doesn't know how to handle it. She doesn't want to have this involuntary connection forced on her, especially when it's something potentially so intimate in nature.
She's not ready to confront it, so she avoids it. It's not Lucien personally she has an issue with--while she has been cold towards him, I have no doubt she hasn't enjoyed doing so and that when she's thought about it, she realizes how polite and respectful he's been throughout this jarring realization for them both.
She doesn't know him like we do: doesn't know his past, and doesn't know of his wonderful qualities, about Jesminda, the pain he's endured, and the warmth and kindness he still possesses despite it all.
Remember too the only real examples of mating bonds she has to go off of are Feyre and Rhys. Nesta and Cassian. To some extent (whether they're mates or not), Amren and Varian.
Feyre and Rhys's tension despite having been together for awhile now is always present and always palpable. It's hard not to be hit over the head with something like that as a regular human when a couple's connection is that strong and there's that much going on between them, and Elain--an already intuitive person--now has to be faced with that in all her heightened senses glory? About how public those things automatically are?
Then there's Nesta and Cassian, which she would've observed the rocky, stressful start of versus that development and where they are now. That too would be overwhelming (and likely, to a more reserved female like Elain in such capacities, a little embarrassing).
Top that all off with the man she thought she loved was taken from her by circumstances that weren't her choice and that his rejection of her was brutal. Think about how badly that must have stung and how any sense of security she might have had left was stolen away, too.
Now the universe has decided that she and Lucien of all males are mates.
Lucien, her sister's friend. That alone must imply to her he has some good qualities Feyre values.
Lucien, who her sister spends at least five minutes per internal monologue platonically thirsting over in her commentary.
Lucien, a trained courtier with a mix of elegance and mischief. A mix of refinement and masculine roughness.
Prythian can't seem to go five seconds without commenting on his attractiveness, including the villains.
The first thing he does amidst the chaos and horror is cover her with his jacket to protect her dignity and carry her gently out of the water. Someone who she, despite knowing it's not his fault, will forever to some degree associate with that terrible day (even if he was one of the few who offered her kindness).
He's kept his distance from her per her wishes. When they are around each other, he has always been polite, reserved, cautious, and respectful. He's merely offered his hand and given her every choice in terms of taking it.
Elain is overwhelmed and still healing. It's not in her nature as it was Feyre's or Nesta's to fall into whatever sort of relationship with men or males easily.
The one time she take that leap, she was hurt badly for it by a beta bitch man she thought loved her and whom she'd planned to spend the rest of her life with.
Even if everything else is overwhelming--even if a part of her may want to get to know Lucien at least a little--it wouldn't surprise me at all if she's every bit as afraid of where that might lead if she does end up feeling something beyond the bond for him.
And she very well may sense that as well: that once she takes that step, he's going to be the type she could fall in love with.
He's a chance she's not quite ready to take.

Bee person dropping in to divulge some of the Secret Lore - there's about 20000 bee species, most of which (~85%) are solitary, meaning they live their entire life on their own. Most of these species are far less aggressive and territorial since it doesn't pay off for them to die in defense of their nest if they can just make a new one instead and still have at least a couple offspring. They're also much more vulnerable to the negative effects of climate change, pesticides, and loss of floral resources and habitats than a lot of social bees because they don't have a bunch of siblings to do teamwork with, so if the going gets tough for them, they have to go it alone - so they're especially dependent on us getting our shit together.
On a less depressing note, for anyone who wants to see some cool pictures of non-honeybee-looking bees, look up orchid bees, blood bees, carpenter bees, mason bees, mining bees, leafcutter bees, fairy bees, masked bees, sweat bees, digger bees, ... Not all of these are solitary, but they're all rad as hell. (The males often have quite fancy facial hair/markings too!)
In terms of that bumblebee, it depends - bumblebee colonies are quite small compared to what people will expect given the usual reference of comparatively giant honeybee hives (most bumblebee colonies don't tend to go above ~300 members) and their life histories are also quite different, as bumblebee colonies aren't perennial - young queens emerge from their winter diapause (a type of hibernation) in early spring, found their nests and rear the first workers, who then take over many of the tasks in the colony (such as foraging and brood care) until late summer, when they switch from rearing workers to new queens and males, who then get out and mate. The males and workers eventually die in fall, while the newly mated young queens find a cozy spot to while away the winter (usually underground, but pretty close to the surface, so don't clean up your green spaces too much and be gentle) to start the cycle again the next year. While isolation can have some negative effects on social bees like bumblebees, the severity of these effects depends on a lot of factors. Bumblebees, in my experience, are pretty tough though - for example, they can cope very well with randomly being dropped into an entirely new colony, which I know I certainly couldn't (I can barely handle phone calls on a good day). So long as they're given ample access to sugar water, they can live pretty long lives (for bees, anyway). If you find a flightless one, taking care of it is definitely the better alternative though. Keep them in a clean box (you can put a tissue on the bottom for easy cleaning/changing) in the shade for most of the day, at consistent room temperatures, give them sugar water and occasionally some flowers and they'll be fine. Just be careful as they can (and will) still sting in self-defense.
However, there actually are also stingless bees (Meliponini - more then 500 species worldwide) - they're another really cool group to look up. Like bumblebees and honeybees they are also social bess, and (like bumblebees) they build crazy cool nests. They're also the only group of bees that can produce honey outside of the honeybess (genus Apis - only 9 species worldwide) and can be found all over the world (the Americas, Australia, Africa, ...). They've been used for traditional honey production for centuries in a lot of South American countries, for example (off the top of my head I know of Mexico and Brazil). Their honey is also quite different to Apis honey in terms of chemical composition (and, speaking as a completely objective third party observer with absolutely no personal interest in the matter, is much tastier).
I'll stop now because otherwise I never will, but if there's anyone I haven't scared off yet, feel free to drop by and send me a message and I'll happily answer any and all bee-related questions you may have! I also really recommend the nonhoneybees (.) com blog, which is run by a wild bee researcher - they have really cute bee cartoons and lots of interesting facts about bees (and don't post at an overwhelming rate).

👤 + lucky!
"Lucky Lewis is the worst person I have ever met, he's a boyfriend stealing, phone hogging, pathetic little weasel, who thinks he can just worm his way into people's relationships and take their partners all for himself. I'm surprised he has any time to even do his job, with all this homewrecking he's doing. Has anyone had a callback from the veterinary clinic? Has anyone been able to get an appointment? Probably not, that's because the guy at the front desk is out wrecking lives! I know I certainly haven't been able to get through... I mean I don't have a pet, but that's so not the point. I mean, hello, there's even a Twitter dedicated to the downfall of this man, surely that has to mean something. Hashtag, cancelled. I guess... if you want me to be nice about him, if that's even possible. I'd say he seems like he's a great friend to Finn, and always has his back. I can't knock him for his great hair, and I guess his dress sense is impeccable, if someone were able to look past that hideous facial hair he's got going on. I suppose in another life, he could have been a model, but again, that's just me being observant. And speaking as a completely objective third party observer with absolutely no personal interest in the matter... I reckon that girl I've been seeing him about with probably is really lucky to have someone so sweet and generous beside her. I mean, at least that's what I hear he's like from Finn and through the grapevine. Who knew the devil could be so charming."

I’m just gonna come right out and say it…
Dick Grayson, on a character level, did not need a “fix-it” for the original Nightwing #93 arc—ESPECIALLY not one that was just a shallow retread but now with extra 0 emotional stakes, 0 build up, and a pastede on yay happy ending.
#dick grayson#nightwing#cw: rape#discussion further below#this may be controversial.#i know a lot of people dislike that arc and how far it went.#and also Devin Grayson’s comments on it.#(which is fair.)#and Devin Grayson generally.#HOWEVER.#as a completely objective third party observer with no personal interest in the matter…#(meaning *disclaimer disclaimer this is my own personal opinion disclaimer disclaimer*)#i think this was HUGE for Dick Grayson as a character and Nightwing as a hero.#and a real fix-it would be the narrative FULLY ACKNOWLEDGING that Dick Grayson was raped.#and to stop having dude writers sweep it under the rug because ‘things like that don’t happen to Dick Grayson.’#because I think that’s where a lot of the in-company and dude fans’ antipathy comes from—#…the very concept that Dick Grayson could be a victim in that way…#is abhorrent to them on a level that they don’t usually experience.#and so they try to write over it awkwardly by treating it like it was consensual.#which…I shouldn’t have to explain why that’s a terrible way to handle it.#or—in this case—it is just written over entirely and replace with the equivalent of those ‘and then everybody clapped!’ stories.#but I think that’s a disservice to Dick Grayson as a character and to comics as a storytelling medium.#not to mention that…#if you divorce the current issue from the original number 93 arc…#IT’S A REALLY FUCKING POINTLESS STORY.#dick Grayson’s identity is revealed! oh wait it’s fine blockbuster dies and he and Barbara kiss.#okay????#what was the purpose of that?!#SIGH.#comics are bad and i hate them

I hope you're gonna write more klaroline one day ♥️😚 I really love your writing!
Tumblr media
Thank you so much! ❤️❤️ I’m deep into Klaroline retirement, but this is so lovely to hear xx
How about a good girls brio klaroline au???
😲😲 gosh that would be something! I do not think Rio and Klaus would like each other at all, hahahaha, they’re too alike. Rio would also NOT know how to cope with not being the most trigger-happy BDE in the room 🤣 (However, my eyeballs would very much like to see it 😍)
And, similarly, I don’t think Caroline would take kindly to Beth, lol. Also I feel sympathy for the room that would have to contain all four of them and that insane amount of control freakness 🤣🤣

so,, hanseo and miri am i right. the ending never happened so take this headcanon-y / illiterate fic of thoughts as crumbs !!
okay, so, i was thinking, the reason why miri and hanseo don't get together straight away when they both realise their feelings is bc miri says no. don't get me wrong, hanseo has a lot of loyalty and love to give, and he's ready to give it to her. but she disagrees, bc she pushes him to talk through his traumas and realise where he sits in all of it. she wants him to understand himself first bc he's never had the chance to put himself first. she doesn't believe that it would be healthy with his current mental state to jump into another connection so quickly. instead, they take the time, they sit and study so that he can get better at being the chairman, she strokes his hair and protects him from his night terrors whenever he accidentally falls asleep at her place, and he talks to a third party to pinpoint who exactly he is amongst all the messes he's been forced through. she reminds him that there's a little jang hanseo sitting inside of him, in a little locked room that he's kept to himself because he doesn't want to see his true self get abused when his brother has taken everything else from him. he wanted to keep that side of him to himself, at least there was something that he could protect. honestly, going through therapy, he allows himself to realise that the idea of unlocking that room absolutely terrifies him. bc what if he retreats back into that dark place again? what if he allows himself to care for miri but he can't protect them like he couldn't protect his parents, or anyone else around him? and it takes a lot of effort to even get there.
but miri takes him aside, brushes her hand against his and tells him that she loves him for the first time. mind you, this is about a year after the events of the show, but they've been growing side by side this whole time, and when miri loves, she falls deeply. she realises now that she was so absorbed in the thrill of liking someone like vinny, after all, everyone seemed to be romantically interested in that man. but she understands that there wasn't really any truth to it. she's found it hard in the past to feel attachments or really any sort of attraction to people, living a very secular life. so that's why, when she sees these very visceral reactions to the man's looks, she honestly couldn't help but internally look at him the same way. it's like the awe that one may feel when they view a great piece of art, or an amazing scene in a film. there's always a disconnect between the viewer and the subject at hand. but it was a different matter when it came to her puppy.
she'd remembered the first time that she saw him, ducking behind pillars, looking like he was trying to be some goofy spy in that smart suit of his. he'd raise a hand to swipe away a few strands that would fall across his forehead and she couldn't help but wish that she knew what it was like to run her fingers through his hair. the attraction was like a lightning bolt that shot straight through her spine - and that was terrifying to her. so the initial times, she finds that she doesn't purposefully try to interact with the man. happy to stand and observe. miri has gotten so used to being the observer. never the participator.
that changed when he got himself sent to the hospital after being shot. the residents whispered behind palms about how the young man had saved their infamous lawyer pair, but she couldn't help but curse the italian. she knows of his prowess, she knows that he has ten times the fighting ability compared to hanseo. she would stomp back to her studio, something wild spreading across her mannerisms - utterly confusing any other resident around.
in all honesty, she's never been one for hospitals. but she makes hanseo food everyday. she doesn't trust whatever they give patients in hospitals anyway, and she knows that she has a few cooking tricks up her sleeve. they never really see each other, and she has always asked another resident to take the food to him. (a different one every time. she doesn't really know how she'd respond if anyone ever questioned her actions, especially when she's not completely sure why she's doing what she's doing either ... ) it takes a couple of days, but she slowly moves to his rhythm. taking notice of the foods that he likes, the ones that he didn't. now stopping outside of his hospital room to peer through the little window, elated at the look of sheer happiness that spreads across his puppy-dog features every time he sees a visitor with an entourage of containers for him. (maybe this is where his pet. name came from). even as things become a bit more normal, and he finds himself over in the plaza more often, the two would continue to peak glances at each other. her, wanting to see him smile like that again. him, mildly hurt that the only girl who had been playing on his mind for months had not gone to see him in the hospital. it's only after he finally asks her, and she abruptly poses whether he would like to study with her every night, does one of the other residents let miri's daily cooking habits slip.
she notices the distinct shift in his behaviour towards her, but he won't ever discuss the new nugget of knowledge till years later, and she'll get flushed and embarrassed at the fact that he's known all this time.
anyways, it takes a year and a half of talking twice a week to crack down on the deepest fears that hanseo has held onto for so long. all the residents know when it's happened bc they see the visible change. he's similar to how he's always been, but it seems like there's something lighter about him. like there's something that has been finally put to rest; the man looks like he has found a little bit of the peace that he deserves, at very last. when he visits the plaza, he's gotten rid of the stiff suits in dark colours. this rigid business attire had been his method of camouflaging into a wall of corporate faces - maybe his brother would aim a sharp object at the wrong person, one of those that he had cloned himself into looking like around him. it worked on some occasions. but this experience had taught him that these clothing decisions had become survival for him, and that was surely not a sustainable way to continue living. so most residents would stop to flick their eyes over the young man as he passes. his simple caramel turtleneck and blazer combo seeming too settled in the middle of the two extremes that the male usually fell in between.
rumour has it, the man literally dipped the apple to his eye, the woman who had waited for him to get healthy for a year and a half, the only sun he sees, nearly off of her feet when he steals their first kiss. they'd waited this long for it to occur, they may as well make it magical.
( are these crumbs okay?? hes not dead!! nope, that was false!! that never happened!!)

Art usually follows, in my opinion, a cycle that's pretty easy to detect when you've consumed enough of it--and enough of it not just from your own time, but from a decent sampling of others before it--and you can tell what makes/made certain periods truly revolutionary breakthroughs for artistic thought and ideas and general culture, and what periods were more just long stretches of veneration for the sake of what some might call wholly narcissistic expression. What makes a good artist, ironically, is a heavy dose of a narcissistic personality--someone who is interested, almost enamoured, with their own personality, thoughts, feelings, and so on, to such an extent that they believe these impulses to hold so much meaning that they channel them, consciously or not, into works of art--mixed with and tempered by a sense and respect of some objective or external reality or principle--natural law, God, other people's thoughts/feelings/emotions, and so on--that they must interface with at many, many points if they wish to not only present their work to people, but also to improve both their work, their craft, and their own abilities of creation and perception. This is the balance that creates a good artist, if it is navigated properly--an individuated person who is capable of fashioning, maintaining, revising, and growing their own body of beliefs WHILE STILL acknowledging the importance and relevance of both exploring and at times leaving alone, but still respecting the things outside them they may never understand. And with enough practice, it can be navigated, by almost anyone. No one, in my opinion or understanding, has ever navigated this route perfectly, and even the greatest artists have major failures and shortcomings in both their own professional and personal lives.
The issue we face in our contemporary period is a lack of proper guidance and feedback, despite all the productive channels, for young artists and creators with which they can actually use and metabolize as proper guidance away from the simple talent of natural disposition and towards a more refined sense of elevated ability.
This lack of guidance is apparent not only in the online sphere, but in schools, ideological/cultural establishments, the general social institutions of our day, and even the cultural etiquette and mannerisms that so guide interpersonal relationships between colleagues, friends, family, and even the self. There is a lot of information saturation, and many, in the face of it, understandably turn to modern mass art--simply and somewhat coldly, in my opinion, standardized as "content"--not as a means of navigating the self or the world, but rather as a means of deadening oneself to both. And this goes double for young artists, who can be more sensitive, and therefore more negatively, or positively, rewarded by the current means with which the prevailing public systems of thought interact with their work. That means that if a certain kind of art is well-received, a young artist will gravitate towards that to first satisfy that narcissistic impulse. If the narcissistic impulse, however, is the only thing the constantly transient attention and appetite desire of the public demands, that is the only thing the artist will produce. Over time, such production decays an individual, as can be observed with countless cases of social/online personalities. But because they did not, are not, and may never receive any guidance from a trustworthy and honest higher authority who shares their interest on how to transverse the realm of the purely subjective/particular into the realm of the nearly objective/universal, these young artists will continue, through a fault of their own, and many that are not, to produce ephemeral and fleeting cultural products, content, that come nowhere close to possessing any staying power or potential of posterity and lingering effect. This isn't a pity-call for every disillusioned young artist around the block, but it is a reminder that, despite the productive capacity of a culture arguably never being anything close to what we have now, the actual amount of quality contemporary work being put out, or at least in any way recognized by both high and low culture, is stupefyingly low, almost non-existent. In an age of extreme personal curation, encouraged by public ethos and overarching third-party corporate and public interests, it is difficult to make good art. The few that can will, like many other ages, most likely go unnoticed, and anything that does break through the realms of both high and low culture, and has a chance of uniting the two, if even for a brief moment, runs the exponential risk of being completely absorbed and consumed by the dominant cultural apparatus of the day.
There is, in my opinion, no way to avoid this current paradigm, barring a mass-transformation in public consciousness and disposition, other than riding it out. In four hundred years, if we're lucky enough to be alive, and more than a few of us are lucky to be truly literate, there will be great works studied from this exact point in time, all over the world. That's how it's always happened, and it will be no different as far as I can see or guess, for us. All that can really be done, in my opinion, is for anyone who makes art to pursue it with honest intentions and a pure heart--corny, I know, but the longer and more you do it, the more you realize what it really can and maybe one day will mean--and make things that truly matter to them. Make things that take a unique perspective of the world and try, in some way, to communicate observations made on what some might call universal themes, situations, and people, as they come and go. That's really all you can do with a good book, is try to give someone the best--not always the cleanest, or goodest, or nicest, or darkest, but simply the most honest--memory you can give them.
