The last of my series of Shipping Challenge Prompts for @robotnik-mun, with Alphys and Undyne from "Undertale" doing an outfit swap; I had, just, a ton of fun with this one, especially once I hit on the idea of putting Alphys, not in Undyne's civlian clothes, but rather her ominous armor.

Life on the Surface had been great for the most part. The monsters had mostly settled around Mount Ebbott as humanity at large was still suspicious and hostile toward them, but their lives were decidedly better out of the Underground.

Sans had dropped all of his previous jobs in favor of becoming a science teacher in the newly-opened mixed elementary school (both monsters and human students were allowed, but teachers were still predominantly human, so getting a job there hadn't been easy. He'd needed some help from Toriel who was an English teacher there as well as one of the founders).

Papyrus had gotten a job as a line cook at a local fast-food place. Couldn't be happier. Alphys was working with a team of scientists to study the technology of the Core and possibly export it to the surface.

And Undyne was the captain of the monster division of the police force. She'd worked hard for that to get opened up, and had needed to plead with the King for some help with the diplomatic aspects of the whole thing. Her and Alphys had also gotten married.

Overall, the four of them had remained close despite the dramatic shifts in their lives. So much so that they met up every Friday evening after they were all done with their jobs.

Usually, they met at Alphys and Undyne's place. Undyne was always there first, followed by Papyrus, followed by Sans (who always made sure to take a lengthy afternoon nap not to get there too early), and Alphys came in last.

That particular Friday, Sans had forgotten to take his nap so he'd arrived unusually early. Undyne was still preparing some snacks for the evening (some charred black sludge that probably would have been unedible for them had they had taste buds. Alphys sure was glad the food was always finished by the time she arrived). Paps was still nowhere to be seen, he still had an hour or so to the end of his shift.

In Sans' defense, he did try to ask if it was better for him to come back later, but Undyne just rolled her eyes and dragged him in, lifting him up and setting him down on the kitchen table so they could chat as she cooked.

It went just as well as you may imagine...

"Did you watch the Olympics, Sans? Humans sure find bizarre ways to test their physical prowess! I would have won every category!" Undyne boasted.

Sans sheepishly looked down, fidgeting with his hands. "I don't really watch sports" he confessed.

"Oh... right. Well, have you seen any new interesting series? I've been watching a lot of stuff whenever I get the time" Undyne continued, still with just as much passion as she had for any other topic. She was such an energetic person, it was admirable.

"I only really watch TV when we watch anime together".

"Right... well, anything fun at work?" Undyne tried, yet again. This time more hesitant.

"Uhm... the kids are cool. But I'm pretty sure one of the other teachers has been trying to poison my coffee for a couple of weeks now".

Undyne's eyes went wide. "Wha- Sans! You should go to the police for something like that!".

"I don't have any organs and the poison isn't magic. It just falls right through me" he shrugged casually. "No harm in letting the poor guy make a fool of himself a bit more".

"You- right, okay". Silence falls between them for a long moment, before Undyne sighs. "You're a difficult person to talk to".

Sans snorted. "Yeah. That's why I let Paps do all the talking usually. You can't be a scientist without having social anxiety".

"Hm... well, ever thought of seeing a therapist about it? Alphys has been going, and it has been helping her. I've also been doing an anger management course, and that's been neat too. Just saying, you don't gotta struggle forever" she offered him an encouraging smile, and it made Sans actually want to consider the offer.

His and Paps' finances were a bit tight, but perhaps he could figure something out. "Maybe. Thanks 'dyne. You're cool as always".

She grinned. "Of course I am! Who do you think taught Papyrus so well?"

i was about to say mettaton but no he's actually alphys' best friend. man. and they get married in a catholic church because they saw it in an anime annd thought it looked sick as fuck and papyrus is UNDYNE'S best man and theu fight/rival it out over the wedding planning and it all degenerates into mtt trying to replicate the pietas and like. giving himself fake stigmata bc hes being dramatic. bouquets are thrown. and spears. spears bouquets. it's chaos. the priest finds refuge in the confession booth. sans is selling hot dogs in the confession booth. i mean he is clerically qualified to take confesisons but it's not mentioned bc it's not relevant to the story.

anyway asgore. asgore officiates their wedding

managed to sleep badly again.

papyrus definitely noticed.

we were making pancakes and i almost burned myself without even realizing.

says he might make me go to bed earlier for now.

could help, could end up with extra time spent staring at the ceiling.

tried to read something but all the words looked like they melted together on the page.

when i was talkin' to alphys, she said undyne and her were having trouble too.

that whole thing with tori the other night, plus knowing how long frisk has been secretly staying up, combined with the other's sleep issues, i realize...

"nobody can sleep lately, huh?"

"IT SEEMS NOT."

"OH! BY THE WAY! I DID GET THE CUBE SOLVED!"

he showed it to me. sure enough, fully solved.

"so, was this what you did instead of sleeping?"

"......."

papyrus tapped his foot twice and rocked a little.

"...YYYES, BUT, I WOULD CONSIDER IT A FAR MORE WORTHY INVESTMENT OF MY TIME!"

"you can't just."

"not sleep."

"to solve a puzzle."

"I DON'T SLEEP. YOU KNOW THIS."

"....."

"I'LL MAKE UP FOR IT SOME OTHER NIGHT."

"that is not-"

"WAIT!"

"I HAVE AN IDEA!"

"yeah?"

"WE COULD HAVE A BIG SLEEP-SLEEPOVER!!"

"you mean like-"

"A SLEEPOVER WHERE EVERYONE ACTUALLY SLEEPS!"

"hopefully."

"HOPEFULLY."

so we invited everyone over and got a blanket fort going.

papyrus covered the floor in every comforter, pillow, and cushion he could find.

i let myself fall backwards onto the now bed-like floor. frisk copied me, falling backwards and almost hitting me. probably intentionally.

"hey. i'm no pillow."

they positioned themselves horizontally so that their head was resting on me as if i really were one.

".....well."

they looked at me and giggled, getting comfortable.

"..guess i am now. can't argue with that."

"YO! PAPYRUS!"

rotating around on his knees with flowey on his lap.

"YEEES?"

"Can you toss me that long one?"

undyne pointed to the pillow near his feet.

handing flowey to toriel for a moment, papyrus grabbed the pillow and hurled it at undyne.

she caught it and added it to the section she was building with napstablook.

a pile of cushions draped with a blanket sat directly in front of the tv. i hear mettaton and alphys quietly discussing what to put on.

"Ooh, this is such a good one."

"But will it make for good background noise?"

"Here, let me suggest a nighttime 𝘤𝘭𝘢𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘤."

the tv changed to display a movie thumbnail of mettaton in branded pajamas and a stuffed toy of some kind in his arms.

"......."

"Oh, you're so 𝘳𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵, dear."

swapping to one where he's holding a book while laying sideways over an armchair by a fireplace.

"The storytime one 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 be perfect for this."

alphys glanced at the runtime.

hint: far too long.

"..Yeah, i-it'll definitely put everyone to sleep."

"With my soothing voice? Of course it will."

"Uhuh."

the tv was put on low, though i think papyrus was the only one paying much attention to it.

mettaton moved over to sleep next to napstablook in their pillow-enclosure-thing that undyne is proud to have contributed to.

it took a long time for everyone to settle, but the second the lights were off most of them were out.

alphys and undyne were in the couch, but undyne slowly slid to the floor over time, ending upsidedown. she seemed unphased. alphys got up and laid on the cushioned floor beside her to make up for the movement.

i looked down at the child mostly asleep sprawled across me like a dog in a dog bed and pulled a blanket over them.

speaking of dog; the little thing appeared at some point. even it needed sleep apparently, curling up by my feet with a surprising calmness.

tori's been semi-buried under some pillows (flowey's doing) and is peacefully asleep like that.

on the opposite end of the spectrum, papyrus is asleep within a gap in the floor cushion layer where it opens directly to the carpet of our living room. despite being odd, he seems to have found it comfortable enough.

flowey's propped up with some pillows between the two of them.

and i should probably be closing my sockets too.

Azreal and Emily have mutual feelings, but they aren’t “official” yet.

Hellspawn and Syekick are kinda the same as Azreal and Emily

Frost and Coney are Awkward about it, but they have Mutual feelings.

Frisk and Chara have small crushes on each other.

Papyrus and mettaton, surprisingly, know each other. Lemme explain. Coney being a celebrity, Mettaton has obviously Collaborated with him a few times, and since sans and Papyrus are Coney’s agents, They come along, which is how paps met MTT. They’re pretty good friends now and Enjoy each other’s company, but nothing big has happened… yet.

oh both of them they wish they were the older twin and had an immediate "I'm older so I win" card to hold over the other, but unfortunately for them they were magically born in the exact same moment :']

however Autumn does get to constantly bring up being taller than Summer, who gets to constantly kick him in the knees for it
