The best thing i can recommend as a digital artist:

Have some water near your computer. Every time you save your work you drink. A sip. Whole cup. As much as you want. It becomes a habbit. Save work = water. So when working on something larger you start to feel a bit thirsty, you ask yourself: how much work time has passed since last save drink?

You hit that save button, you take your sip and continue working.
