In fact, it’s more transferable if you practice strengthening your core in conjunction with your functional movements, like squats, lunges, deadlifts,… Or even single leg squats!

Heart Month: The Exercise Diaries (Day 2)
Hey friends!
As promised, I would post during the week on ways to reduce our risk of heart disease. I had a pretty easy going day, even with the restrictions the “winter storm” has caused. I still managed to get a ton of work done. (Yay, me!)
Healthy Heart Tip: Exercising regularly strengthens the heart muscle and promotes weight reduction. One of the best exercise practices is WALKING. This can be either low intensity or uphill, making it more challenging. The point is to get moving! You will see weight loss results in no time!
Back to the story:
I realized that the day was growing late and I hadn’t exercised. I needed to move for at least 30 minutes, and honestly, I did not feel like going to the gym. During one of my endless scrolls on TikTok, a creator shared that Nike Training Club (NTC) has over 90 workouts on Netflix! Seriously? I had no idea this existed. I mean… the only thing I watch on Netflix is “Half & Half”, due to my endless dreams of being A&R at Columbia Records. 😅 Who would’ve known I could get a workout in with Nike Certified trainers!? In the comfort of my own home? How convenient!
Nike workouts was a delightful experience. I cranked up the heat in my home (this helped me sweat a little more), I slapped on my Apple Watch, pulled out my $150 yoga mat (this was a gift, ‘cause I would never, lol), and started out with “Kickstart Fitness with the Basics.” There are plenty of classes to choose from, but I wanted to test it out. In the ‘Bodyweight Burn: Lower Body Basics class,’ Instructor Alex Piccirilli had me tearing up my quads, respectfully. We did squats and lunges for TEN MINUTES straight!
I looked at my watch and thought, “NO WAY!” I just finished a 10-minute class on my bedroom floor. I still needed to close my ring, so I did another class. The next class was the “10-Minute Bodyweight Burn: Upper Body.” Same instructors, but a bit more challenging. This class has a lot of form focus: working the back, core, arms, and shoulders. And just like that-Class over in 10 minutes. The church-girl in me started singing, “I Feel Like Going On!” Haha.
Yasss, friends… All of my help comes from The Lord! 😊 And another video came on! This was a Yoga class called, “10-Minute Yoga: Core Flow.” This was just what I needed to end my workout. Boat poses and plank variations really challenged me. This felt so good! And I’m happy to share that my rings were closed.
