Part of a news shooters job is improvisation - spur of the moment solving of problems you didn't know you had. Here it was shooting the Modern Māori Quartet - so I just asked them how long I had (not long, they were in the middle of writing a song); is there a room we could shoot in (nope) so it was out into the garden with an off camera flash. They had no issues hamming it up on request (media pros!) with spades and tomato stakes - boom! Next to to no one can handle them with out gloves; they're almost never allowed to touch the ground; soldiers will go to the utmost lengths to protect and defend a Colour. So when the Regimental Colour of the 3rd Bn, RNZIR, ripped from its staff, senior NCOs took immediate unrehearsed yet professional steps to ensure the safety of their Colour.
