THE LOVE LETTER: NOVEMBER
Yay! I've done so much art in October and some of them HAD TO BE in this pack!!! I've been especially fond of the crying Madonna and the fabric in Marie Antoinette's dress. I just love this month's vibe, so warm and autumnal yet tinged with sadness!
I'm just about to send out the October packages and you will get a first glimpse of the new A6 print add-on soon, and I hope I manage to make the prints for the November send out a little better, I'm excited to see how they turn out.
This pack will contain three stickers with transparent backgrounds (two little Antoinette's and one big rose), and the A6 print of the crying Madonna.
The dimensions for the items in this package are:
Print - The crying Madonna: A6
Sticker - Rose: 5,3 x 10 cm
Sticker - Marie Antoinette: 5 x 7,4 cm
To get the November send out, you'll have to join or stick around the The Love Letter tier during the month of November.

Hunting The Hunter (Chapter 2)
Tumblr media
F!Reader x William Afton, explicit themes, bad language, eventual smut, reader is in her mid to late twenties Ao3 link Chapter 1 Heyyyy! I changed text formatting a bit in this one, cause it felt like the dialogues weren't easy to read. I really hope you'll like this chapter!
🔪💜🔪💜🔪💜🔪💜🔪💜🔪💜🔪💜🔪💜🔪💜
Steve stopped for a moment, stunned. He glanced down and let out a chuckle.
“Well-well, what an impression I’m giving. Do you really think that of me?” He said endearingly, almost with condescension, as if you were a child asking if the moon was made of cheese. Do you? You honestly couldn’t be sure about anything, there was nothing but a wild guess, and his response made you even more confused about your own judgment. What if you were wrong about him all along? Every reply that never answered anything accumulated rage burning within your chest more and more, and feeling manipulated in the process definitely didn’t help.
“You can never be too sure.”
“I see. You still have an option to refuse my request.” The seriousness in your tone made Steve temper his enthusiasm.
“I accept it.” This is the first thing you were certain about in a long time.
“What if I’m a cold-hearted ruthless killer?” He was still annoyed at the fact you won’t play by his rules.
“Too bad for you.” You answered, knowing damn well you won’t give it up that easy.
An hour later, you’ve been preparing for the event in the comfort of your home. But even the coziest room at your parent’s house would not wash off the ice-cold feeling of Steve’s look frozen on your skin. It felt like he was still sitting in the office miles away, his piercing gaze seeping through hundreds of walls of the neighborhood to reach you anywhere. “And be extremely careful with the animatronics...” His raspy voice kept reverberating in your mind, and you weren’t sure if you’d simply wanted to remember the address and instructions correctly or it was something different entirely. Something otherworldly intense deep within you letting out a wild growl. “Damn… I could really use a sandwich right now.” You headed towards the kitchen.
After a while you were ready for the sortie, dressed all grandpa at a family gathering: cargo pants, military boots, and a big sweater to conceal a crowbar conveniently strapped to your back. You also packed a sports bag of tools you could find in your house, in case you’d have to get out or notice something of interest. There was nothing much, and you really wished you’d had a service weapon on you. Warming up, you tried to remember everything they taught you at the training. “Well, someone might get hurt today, if he doesn’t behave.” You said jokingly in an effort to ground yourself, because, frankly, you had no idea what to expect once you got to the place, and there was no reinforcement to call for help. You went outside and opened your ford’s door, throwing the bag on the passenger seat. This was gonna be a long ride.
You drove in silence, cool autumn wind flowing in through an open window, blowing hair over your face. You were anxiously twisting a small key with a shabby sticker of some fox mascot in your hand. Driving up to the restaurant, you saw someone else’s sedan standing in a parking lot. You parked and got out of the car. There was no one in the vehicle, but approaching it, you noticed a nodding bunny toy behind the windshield. As you turned around, you saw the pizzeria itself: it was nothing special, a simple restaurant building straight from the 80s, you remember spending a lot of time in these as a child, except this one had clear signs of wear on the facade, and a huge “Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria” signage. You went straight to the side, just as Steve instructed, and… No way. He stood right there, leaning against the wall next to the back entrance. He looked you up and down as you approached, analyzing your outfit.
“Wow, all ready for the return of the living dead?” The man smirked as if completely forgetting how pissed he was at you two hours ago.
“Well, I don’t know about the zombies, but a nice living dad I think I can manage.”
Steve laughed, “Didn’t know you were that funny.”
You put the bag on the ground, “Didn’t know you liked bunnies.”
“Oh, I do,” He smiled, “And yes, I figured I shouldn’t be leaving you all alone, since you haven’t even been here.”
“Not afraid of burglars anymore?”
He chuckled at your teasing comment. “I never was. Sometimes you just have to leave the work to the professionals. Shall we?” He gestured at the door and took out a set of keys with a rabbit’s foot on it. You suddenly remembered seeing it on his desk in the office, but you didn’t notice it at the time. Yeah, this man definitely has a thing about these little creatures.
You patiently waited as Steve opened the shutters and unlocked the back door. Rolled up sleeves revealed toned slightly tanned arms of a working man, with muscles tensing and relaxing under the skin in a mesmerizing dance. Where did these even come from? The desk jockey has to be extremely responsible when it comes to the yard work. He let you in first and you hesitated for a moment, wondering if he’ll just lock you up in there, but he walked in right after you, closing the door.
“You could’ve just dealt with this yourself, couldn’t you?” You were walking down the gray hall, steps echoing off the wall. Steve said they kept it clean, but no amount of cleaning products could ever get rid of the weird smell of… oldness? Stale air filled your lungs with each breath you took.
“Of course I couldn’t. A pair of trained eyes would always work better in a situation like this.” He adjusted his glasses. “May I ask why you decided to give up on your career?”
“Well, let’s say it didn’t work out.” You sighed. “I guess I felt weird thinking about what was going on inside criminals’ heads all the time. It’s not that I wasn’t doing my job properly because of it, it’s that these obsessive thoughts tired me out. I even got to interrogate some of the guys but what they said was never enough for me. I had to know their exact thought process, why were they capable of doing what they did and… Never found an answer.”
“Huh, that is rather interesting to know. We're kind of similar in this respect.” Your heart skipped a beat as you heard him say it. “I like watching crime investigation documentaries for this specific reason. They usually try to dig deeper into the psychological aspect, gives you a better understanding. It’s… exciting.”
You glanced at him skeptically, but Steve suddenly stopped and looked you in the eyes with such kindness, taking you aback. You almost passed out seeing his smile, wondering how good your poker face actually was. Was he aware of the effect he had on you? But he only raised his hand to point to something at the back. You turned around to realize you were now both standing in a dining area with a performance stage on the right side. Worn out checkered tiles, dark walls and empty tables looked quite eerie, lit by a gloomy light of a couple neon signs. You reached into your pocket for a flashlight and pointed it at the stage. Turning it on, you almost jumped: three life-sized animatronics stood there, staring right back.
“Stars of the show: Freddy, Bonnie and Chica.” Steve put hands on his hips, standing there like a proud parent. “There’s also Foxy, a shy one, hiding right behind that curtain.” You listened to him silently, still processing the sudden encounter. You almost thought his smile was about you. Yeah, right. The man was definitely far too enthusiastic for someone who had nothing to do with this place. “Look, there’s a mark right there. On the floor.”
You shone the light in that direction, there was a scratch on the tiles in the corner. You came up there and saw that it certainly was not recent, filled with dust and dirt from all the years, it was as old as the building itself. “It’s nothing, Steve, it’s just…” You stopped there, noticing something far more intriguing. A trash can nearby caught your attention, with a piece of newspaper sticking out of it alluringly. You went and took it out, giving the photo in the corner a quick look. It was a picture of the pizzeria in its prime. “No… No, no, no, no...”
“Five children gone missing, a dishonorable end to the well-liked Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria,” read the headline. “Co-founders detained for further questioning.”
You looked around, panically waving the flashlight in a desperate attempt to find Steve. But there was nothing but a slow creaking sound of old metal joints in response.

Help a fellow DT-obsessee out 🙏🙏
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm saving up desperately to try get tickets to David Tennant's Macbeth in the autumn, because I'm hyperfixated SO hard on DT/DT roles and this is probably my only ever chance to actually see him, considering I'm not very well-off and I live in Northern Ireland, where nobody ever goes and fuck-all happens.
Please have a look at my stickers on etsy!! I'm restocking the 50 pack next week hopefully, and am planning on selling DT related badges as soon as i get my machine fixed (a replacement part is on the way).
Of course I'm not going to force you to do anything, but a reblog would be greatly appreciated. My goal is to make £600, in order to cover hotel + flights for myself and my mum. I won't be 16 until after the tickets are for sale, so I can't get a proper job yet 💔💔

Decorating with the Avengers + Others for Autumn
Requests are open! Read the rules and send them in!
The team
Okay, so when the weather starts to change and the leaves start to fall from the trees, you can bet that stores will reintroduce pumpkin spice products. Whenever you wanna decorate for fall, some people will help you while others will claim that they are helping but are eating all the Halloween decorated candy and goods that are in the kitchen.
Tony Stark
He'll definitely tease you about decorating. Might toss a couple of candies at you to see your reaction but nothing that can't be fixed with a quick kiss and a few of those (wrapped) candies thrown back at him at full force.
"Damn, Y/N." Tony laughed as he ducked the full on pumpkin shaped Snickers bar.
He is a bit amused when you use those autumn ambience videos on YouTube as inspiration for decorating and doing a little bit of crafts. He'll eventually get into the Autumn spirit. He playfully blames you when you see that he made a suit that had the colors of Autumn.
Steve Rogers
He'll definitely help you decorate. His decorating skills are a bit rusty from ya know..... But, he'll definitely try and help. Nowadays, he's kinda impressed about how much the human race has advanced.
He notices that when he went to the store with you to get a few things, that a good portion of the decorations were shiny and sparkly. He'll totally be down if you ever wanted to do a Autumn picnic. He makes sure that if the weather is particularly chilly, that you both are dressed for it and have maybe like a portable battery operated heater to keep you guys warm
He definitely wants to make sure that you are comfortable and he sure does not want you to get sick. If you love to bake, he'll also be your first taste tester and he will give you honest feedback on your baked goods.
Bucky Barnes
"Whatcha, doing there, doll?" Bucky asks as he watches you struggle to put up some decorations for the Fall season. When you tell him you are decorating, he'll hold you steady as you put orange led lighting up outside. He will also offer you his jacket if you get cold. He will always offer you his help and will help you get down after putting up the decorations outside. He loves how excited you get when the season of Autumn comes around.
If you bake, then he will tease you, especially if you make something like a pumpkin pie. Bucky may or may not play sweetest pie by dua lipa and Meghan thee stallion. "What's the matter, doll? You seem a bit flustered." However, he's impressed by the skill of your baking. He ate the first slice and went back for a few more. "You could probably sell these. They are that good."
If you want picnics, he'll ask you to bring two pumpkin pies alongside some other things. Also, he may or may not approve if you want to put pumpkin and autumn leaves stickers on his metal arm. He probably would agree reluctantly but if it's something like Autumn colors bedazzling, he doesn't know if he would let you do that though.
Thor
When you guys are on earth, he likes how many pumpkin flavored food and drinks there are during this time of year.
He will EAT all the pumpkin pie poptarts and then beg you to get some more. You would be better off just getting a 36 pack of those to be honest. And yes if you make homemade pumpkin baked goods he will eat those as well. You asked him for feedback once and all his said was "Another!"
If you guys on Asgard you may or may not get weird looks while you are decorating. When Thor tells his parents that this is kind of a tradition of yours, they don't mind. Your pumpkin spice cookies somehow end up being really big in Asgard so you always make a huge batch and leave them in the dining hall.
Loki
Similar to Tony. He will definitely tease you about you wanting to decorate for the Fall/Halloween season. However, he loves your soups during this time of year. Not because they provide warmth when the weather starts to get cold (he was born a frost giant, he's used to it) but just the flavor of your soups.
Whatever pumpkin baked good you make might disappear overnight, but Loki swears it wasn't him like you didn't see him devouring it at 3am the prior night. Loki will also brag about your baking skills to EVERYBODY. Like he is always mentioning how you found a new pumpkin desert to make.
Loki also slowly but surely starts to judge other people's house. If they don't have Halloween/Fall decorations, he is definitely judgemental, honestly. When he judges other's decorations for not being "as good as yours." He uses that as a way to compliment you instead of telling you directly.
Dr Strange
You are gonna have to beg Dr Strange to teleport you to a pumpkin patch. You force him to go on the Hay ride as well. Pretends to not like it but he actually likes spending time with you.
May or may not like the pumpkin spice latte that you get from the local Starbucks. Don't be surprised if he used magic to make sure you don't fall or get hurt while decorating.
Gonna look at you like 🙄 when you beg him to use his cape when you convince him to have a picnic but does it anyway because he loves you. And then 🙄 turns into 😶 when his cape willing goes over to you when you guys start to set up the picnic.
Peter Parker
Definitely uses his Spidey powers to decorate with you. He tries to convince you to just relax and that he can do it but you want to be helping also. If he is able to convince you to relax, you'll definitely just do some Instacart and order pumpkin pie, the ingredients for some pumpkin spice drinks (hot and cold), and the Ingredients needed for a thick and hearty soup since New York could get cold early in October.
If he isn't able to convince you, then he'll make sure that you are secure at ALL times, no matter how much you fuss. He would also love to go on coffee dates with you. Actually, to be honest, he wouldn't mind just being close to you in general, even if it's just staying at home during a rainy, cold, and cloudy day. He wants to try different seasonal drinks with you. However, during a quick trip to the grocery store, you two say apple cider flavored chips, and the two of you looked at each other before putting it in the cart. Hey, you never know. You might love it.
Bruce Banner
Imma tell you right now. Bruce did not expect to wake up at 3 in the morning to an empty half of the bed. Bruce saw that light was coming from down the hallway so he groggily got up as he senses heightened. "Y/N?" He called out, his voice slightly slurred as he had just woken up from a deep sleep. "In the kitchen." He heard you reply. He wondered if you got up to satisfy a midnight snack craving.
He was taken by surprise when he walked into the kitchen to find you in the process of decorating it with Autumn seasonal decorations? Then he checked the living room and it seemed as if it was already decorated and he heard the slight crackle of the fire. He then wondered why you didnt wake him up. Yeah, he's tired but he definitely could have helped you. And plus he could have made sure that you didnt get any cuts or bruises.
"You doing this, now?" Bruce asked, gratefully accept the homemade pumpkin spice latte with two shots of espresso. "You never had 3am motivation?" You laughed as he took a long gulp. "I think I may have lost track of time though."
Natasha Romanoff
She'll definitely use her flexibility to help you decorate the place. And then after the decorations are all set up, she'll just ask for a coffee date. If you like to create crafts for the autumn season, she will definitely try to talk you into selling them on Etsy or a similar website. If you do sell them, she will definitely come with you to make sure that no one will try and hurt you.
If you just want to use them as gifts, she'll help you make sure that the packaging is cute and creative. During one particular craft, it ended in a tickle fight, which in turn ended in the two of you being covered in art supplies ( paint, pencil shavings, etc). She also loves how fascinated you are with her hair. It gives the vibe of Autumn.
She also LOVES rainy Autumn days where the two of you just read a book or watch a movie while ordering some takeout. On rainy days, she loves hot meals since the rain can make the day so much cold than normal. Also, she loves cuddling with you as you guys just relax and take in the decorations or just the vibe of autumn.
Wanda Maximoff
She is insanely protective over you so yes, she will definitely use her powers to put up decorations, no matter how much you protest. She will either use her powers to put up the decorations or use them to hold you up so you can put them up yourself without worrying about sketchy and unstable ladders.
You do have to convince her to hold you up though because she is a bit scared that something will happen and you will end up falling and getting hurt. She would never forgive herself if you got hurt while she was using her powers to hold you up
Afterwards, lots of cuddles and most likely a coffee date. She also lets you play with her hair as it most definitely fits the autumn vibe that you were trying to decorate for. Y'all will definitely do picnics and what not but don't be surprised if she puts up an invisible force field to protect you two during the picnic. The foods and drinks include apple cider, pumpkin pie, and a nice hearty chili, especially if the weather is particularly cold.
Vision
Honestly, he is so loyal. Like, for real, you want to make everything in the house the color of fall? He'll go out with you to get decorations and paint. He definitely is a bit amused when you excitedly point out that his red skin and mind stone is the perfect combination for fall. He also wants you to be happy but he also wants you to be safe.
He's dead ass serious when he wants you to ask for his help if you need it. He can fly, for Pete's sake. And Vision has no problem holding you for as long as you may need or want. He's protective too. But somethings slip through the cracks so if you do end up getting hurt or bruised, he'll definitely make sure that you are okay. He'll bring you ice for your bruise, and he will absolutely give you a message.
He also will go with you on trips. There's a trail that you two frequent that has the most beautiful leaves. The end of the trail ends at a section of a park that has a lake. Vision loves to watch the sunset with you and he'll chuckle when you comment on the way the stone in his head has a sparkle when the golden sunset light is on it. When y'all get back home... movies, cuddles, and pizza are the perfect way to end the eventful day.
Sam Wilson
Okay, so Sam is confused. He left for a run with Steve and literally when he came back, there was Autumn decorations up. He wondered how you were able to put them up and also a bit worried because he didnt want you to be hurt or sore. He thought that he would find you in the bedroom with a ice pack on a bruise that was somewhere on your body but boy was he surprised.
He found you in the kitchen shoving a piece of pumpkin pie down your throat. Y'all made eye contact and you laughed, causing yourself to choke slightly. Sam handed you a glass of water to help wash down the thick slice of pie.
"When did you have the time to get pumpkin pie?" Sam asked in confusion as he cut himself a slice.
"After I put up the decorations." You replied, your voice sounded a bit thick.
"What? I was gone for that long... Damn."
Clint Barton
"Y/N, seriously?" He said looking around the place that was decorated. He chuckled. "Yeah, it's definitely better if you decorate." You laughed at his comment as your mind went back to a year ago.
"I decorated." Clint said as you came home from a run to the grocery store. You had to refrain from laughing. By decorating, he just put a fake pumpkin craft in the middle of the dining room table. That was it. "I think I'm let you decorate from here on out." Clint said before looking at the table and bursting into contagious laughter. One minute later and the both of you were in tears as you guys were laughing so damn hard.
He'll also help you harvest and maybe even sell the autumn vegetables that you started growing early in the summer season. He also helped set up your greenhouse. He likes how well you incorporate pumpkin into your recipes. He thinks it adds a unique and cool flavor that doesn't overpower the other flavors of the dish. And yes, he loves roasted pumpkin seeds.
Venom/Eddie
The amount of season chocolate that y'all three go through is insane. You have to buy multiple big bags of chocolate to satisfy their ( and partially your) cravings. Venom will probably tease you about decorating and he say something about "humans are weird." Now if you are decorating for Halloween, Venom will definitely take interest.
Venom makes you and Eddie get the more gruesome Halloween decorations and you have to ignore the look of people when their eyes widen at the decorations you set up. Whatever, at least your house is decorated for Halloween/Fall.
If you bake any goods, they will be gone insanely quick if they have chocolate in them. If you want to have some, you have to get it as soon as it is done. No, not when it cools off, as soon as it is done. You learned your lesson because last time you left it on the counter to cool, you came back 15 minutes later to find 75 percent of it gone.

Living Proof ~ Chapter Seven
Summary: When he puts himself between the Uruk-hai and Merry and Pippin, Boromir knows it means sacrificing himself. But it also means redemption for his near betrayal of Frodo and the Fellowship, and so it is a price he is more than willing to pay.
Kaia has been on her own for as long as she can remember, having escaped a terrible life in a village not far from Mordor. When she hears the sounds of battle, she knows what it means and when she ventured forth and finds a gravely wounded man lying amongst the leaves and debris, she takes him in, not knowing he is actually the son of the steward of Gondor.
Angry at himself and faced with a long road to recovery, Boromir does not make things easy on Kaia and it is only through her own sheer will that she does not give into the urge to hit him over the head with something on a daily basis. That refusal to give up brings about changes neither one of them could have foreseen.  She just wanted to save him. She never thought he would save her in return…

Autumn had come, but Kaia didn't know if it planned to remain, as summer was slow to concede defeat this year. Still, the breeze held a hint of a chill, sent the dead and dying leaves scuttling all about her small garden that she’d coaxed into life in one of the unlikeliest of places—within a thicket of sticker bushes. She’d spent a great deal of time and energy when she first happened upon this cabin at clearing out the middle of the thicket, which she’d used to camouflage the garden itself should any orc—singular or part of a pack—happen upon her home. It had taken some doing, and she still had healing scratches along her upper arms and shoulders from the stubborn prickers, but she’d managed, and while her garden might be small, it was enough to sustain her through just about the entire summer and into the autumn. Come winter, she’d have to move on, for game had become sparser and sparser since the orcs tore through, and although her garden had been bountiful, it had not yielded enough to sustain her through an entire winter as well.
That made her sad, for this was the longest she’d spent in any one place in quite some time, and she had come to think of it as home. She would miss the rundown shack she’d claimed as her own. Hopefully she would stumble across another one at some point in her travels.
Still, she was going nowhere as long as Boromir remained with her. He’d made great strides in only five days, but he was still a ways from being able to be up and out on his own. She was impressed that he’d managed to survive what happened to him, but he would not survive much longer, should she turn him out.
Which, of course, she was not about to do.
She turned toward the cabin once more. Sounds of water sloshing about floated on the breeze out to her. Part of her wished he’d waited for her to help him, but part of her was glad he hadn’t. The strangest thing had happened when she’d helped him remove his shirt. The air felt as if it cracked about them, the way it did before a lightning storm at the height of summer. And for one moment, she’d had the feeling he was contemplating kissing her.
But that wasn't the strange part. No, the strange part was the pang of disappointment that coursed through her when he didn’t do it.
“And that is madness,” she muttered, sinking to her knees to dig up the last turnips of the season. She wasn't particularly fond of turnips, but they were hearty and easy to grow and so when she had the chance to buy seeds, she leaped at it. There were perhaps half a dozen left from the crop she’d planted in August, and they all went into the small basket on the ground at her knee.
She was in the midst of digging up the last turnip when she heard the sound of cracking branches and crushed leaves. Kaia went still, setting her trowel on the ground without a sound, and looked over toward the back porch, where her bow and quiver of arrows stood propped against it. The turnips forgotten, she crept through the narrow tunnel she’d created out of the overlapping and interweaving pricker branches, biting back a hiss of pain when a stubborn thorn caught her cheek and tore open a jagged slash just below her left cheekbone.
Ignoring the hot sting and the trickle of blood that first dotted the surface of her skin, then spilled down along her cheek, she fought her way out of the brambles, only not quite as noiselessly as she’d liked to have emerged.
More branches broke. More leaves rustled. The noises grew louder.
She had a visitor.
The sounds came from the western edge of the small parcel of land upon which her cabin stood. Fortunately, the kitchen was on the eastern side of the house, so hopefully whoever had arrived couldn’t hear Boromir’s bathing.
Or so she hoped.
But that hope was dashed a moment later when the ugliest orc she’d ever seen came around that corner of the house and greeted her with a guttural, “What’s this now?”
She swallowed hard. The orc was between her and her bow. Her trowel was still in with the turnips. “What do you want?”
“Lookit ye…” His lopsided, misshapen, decaying face split into an obscene smile that made her blood run like ice in her veins. “A tasty treat, ye are…”
Her heart slammed into her ribs, making it hard to breathe and hard to see as each beat sent black dots dancing before her eyes. He stood between her and her weapon, between her and her home.
Between her and her safety.
As he drew near, he slid a blade free and she felt sick at the sight of it glinting in the sunlight. For a moment, she considered diving into the pricker bushes, but wasn't at all certain she could fend the orc off with a trowel, of all things.
Still, she had to draw it away from the house, and so she backed up, moving toward the thicket. “I’m hardly a treat,” she told it, shaking her head. “I’m mostly sinew, skin, and bone.”
“Ye got a little bit o’ flesh on ye and that’s enough.”
Her stomach bubbled madly as he leaped at her, and a moment later, black, sticky ooze splattered her and the orc, now missing his head, dropped in a putrid heap at her feet.
“What the—” She looked up at Boromir, who stood behind where the now-headless orc had been, dripping wet, a scowl on his face, and thick, black ooze dripping from the blade he held in one hand.
“Are you all right?”
She nodded. “I’m fine. I—I was in the garden and… how did you—”
“I heard you. And then I heard him.” The sword slipped from his grasp to hit the dirt with a dull thud.
Kaia closed the space between them, crouched to snag the sword, then rose and slipped an arm about his waist. “Let’s get you back inside.”
He leaned against her. “Are you certain you’re all right?”
“I’m fine. But let’s get you inside and I’ll go see if he had any friends.”
He didn’t protest, but let her lead him back up the short flight of stairs and onto the kitchen porch, where she paused to tug open the door.
Water puddled the floor as a testament as to how quickly Boromir must have leaped up from the tub. “How did you manage getting out so quickly?”
“I didn't think. I just reacted.” Exhaustion wove into his words and he leaned even more heavily against her. “I need to sit.”
“Of course.” She helped him over to the sofa, where he sank into the cushions and she tried not to think about how he was still dripping wet.
He swore softly as he sat back and as if reading her mind, muttered, “I need to dry off and change.”
“Of course.” She darted back into the kitchen, grabbed the towel, and sprinted back, crouching before him to swipe at the water beading against his legs. “I should change these as well,” she said, gesturing to the bandage about his thigh.
“I can do that.”
“It’s really no—”
He swiped the towel from her to drape across his thighs. As her eyes followed the movement, she realized why he’d snatched it the way he had and her cheeks grew hot. His small clothes were sewn of a cream-colored linen and since they were wet…
She rose abruptly, skirting the sofa to almost dart into the kitchen before he could see how furiously she blushed. And she most definitely blushed. She hadn’t meant to look, it was more a reflex, really, but there was no way he would believe that and judging by his own reaction, he was just as embarrassed.
Not that he had any cause to be embarrassed, from what she saw.
Her spine stiffened at that unexpected and unwanted thought. She honestly had not meant to look at all, but at the same time, once she realized what she looked at, looking away suddenly became more difficult as curiosity got the best of her.
Not that his small clothes were completely sheer, for they weren’t. But they were sheer enough to offer up an unmistakable sight that she had never really seen before.
Heat flared through her once more as she peered over her shoulder at him. He didn’t look up, didn't look her way, as he dried himself and then shifted on the sofa. A soft rustling sound reached her ears and that heat burned hotter still as he slowly stood and, without turning about to see if she had her back to him, shoved the wet garment down his legs.
Her mouth went dry as he lurched slightly to his left and his bare backside came fully into view. The heat in her face swept through her entire body at the sight, for if there was such a thing as a perfect arse, it belonged to the man in her great room. She tried not to stare, dabbing at the cut on her cheek in hopes the sharp sting would take her mind from it.
It did not work. The stinging subsided and the bleeding slowed and all she could do was watch him and hope he did not turn about and catch her doing so.
Boromir bent, offering up a muttered oath of some sorts as he did, and a moment later, he’d pulled dry small clothes up to cover himself once again.
“Do you have everything?”
She averted her eyes as he turned toward her, bowing her head to make it look as if she searched for something on the table, and hoped like mad he could not see how furiously she blushed now. How could she stare at him that way, ogle him as if he was a horse or a steer to be inspected before purchase? He was wounded and had aggravated those injuries coming to her defense and she chose then to gape at him as if she’d never seen a man before.
Which was silly. Of course she’d seen men. She had a stepfather. She had three older stepbrothers. There were the men who’d toiled for her stepfather.
But, not a one of them looked anything like Boromir. Not one bit. He was tall and broad shouldered, with those piercing gray-blue eyes and his somewhat shaggy golden brown hair. And although she burned with shame for her thoughts, she could not lie to herself—he was strikingly handsome, even exhausted and battered.
What was wrong with her?
“Kaia?”
“What?” She jerked up, biting the inside of her cheek as his left eyebrow crept up a fraction. He knew. He knew she’d been staring at him. He knew what she was thinking about him. He knew.
Which was silly. He couldn't read minds. He had no way of knowing what thoughts had just torn through hers like a tornado, leaving a jumble of confused feelings and thoughts in its wake.
“I’d like to put my trousers back on,” he said, gesturing to his left thigh, “so if we might?”
“Oh, right.” Hurriedly, she gathered the things she’d need and brought them into the great room to unceremoniously dump them all into the middle of the table. “Sorry… I was doing a bit of woolgathering, as my mother would say.”
“Woolgathering. So, you were raised around sheep?”
They were close in height, but he still had an inch or two on her, so she looked up and nodded. “Amongst other animals, yes.”
“Where?”
She grabbed a roll of linen bandage and crouched before him. Her mouth went dry once more and she tried to shove the uncomfortable thoughts from her fool mind. He was injured and she needed to remember that.
But, as she reached to unknot the linen wound about his thigh, she hesitated, her heart beating faster at the very thought of touching him. Why now? She’d touched this same part of him at least half a dozen times since she’d dragged him back to the cabin. Why did it addle her now?
Because, you ninny, you saw his co—
“Kaia?”
“What?” It came out far sharper than she’d intended and her cheeks grew warm for the tenth time since they’d gotten back into the cabin. She looked up to find him staring down with a quizzical look and she cleared her throat before saying, “I’m sorry… I… I think that orc shook me up more than I’d originally thought.”
“If this can wait—” He gestured to the damp linen still wound about his thigh.
“No,” she shook her head, “it’s best I change it now.”
“Might I sit? I’m feeling a bit… shaky…”
“Of course.” She stood, backing away to give him room to maneuver around her. “Do you need my help?”
“No. I can manage.”
He sank into the sofa with a low groan and as she settled back, she asked, “How did you hear him?”
A tired smile lifted the corners of his lips. “I was just leaning my head back against the tub and relaxing. You didn't make a sound, but then I heard branches cracking and it sounded as if it came from the front of the cabin.”
“Well, thank you. I don't normally walk out the door without a weapon on me, but… I suppose I was too comfortable.” She bit back a sigh as she worked open the knot on the linen and carefully slid it from his leg. “I should go and get rid of him. I hate the thought of that filth in my yard.”
“Wrap me up and I’ll help.”
“Are you certain that would be wise?” She peeled back the bandage covering the wound as carefully as she could, and offered up a silent thank you at the sight of the healing wound. “Oh, this looks quite good, actually. I was afraid you might have burst a stitch or two.”
“I wouldn’t have cared if I had,” he told her softly. “I wasn't going to let him get near you.”
His voice was soft and tired, but his words held a note of steely determination that sent a gentle shiver along her spine. Twisting to take a small square of fabric to replace the soggy one, she said, “Which I do appreciate, by the by.”
“The bleeding has stopped.” He gestured to his own cheek.
“Oh, good.” She brushed her fingers against the cut. “I’ve never had to sew myself up and was a bit worried I might have to.”
She lay the square over the wound and twisted once more to grab a bandage roll. As she moved back to wind it about his thigh, he said, “Did you think I’d not notice?”
Her heart skipped a painful beat, but she refused to admit to gawking at him. Instead, she concentrated on smoothing the linen over the front of his thigh as she said, “I don't know what you mean.”
“You do.”
Now she looked up at him, shaking her head. “I promise you, I do not.”
“Why do you refuse to answer me?”
“Answer you?”
He nodded. “You say you were raised on a farm, but not where. And when I ask, you either pretend you’ve not heard me or change the subject abruptly.”
“Because it matters not where the farm was. It is no longer and that is—” She pressed her lips together as a slew of unwanted memories cascaded about her. It was far better to ignore them, to ignore the pangs of guilt and homesickness that they brought forth, and so she frowned and ran her hand along his inner thigh to smooth out several wrinkles.
He inhaled sharply and she jerked her head up. “Did I hurt you?”
To her surprise, his eyes seemed darker now, the pupils wider, and his voice had an oddly husky hitch to it as he replied, “Not at all, no…”
“Oh, because you—” her hand went still and she looked down at it, and then back up at him, and pulled back away from him as if touching him burned her fingers. “I beg your pardon.”
“It’s all right. I was just caught a bit—ah—unawares, is all.”
“I’m sorry, I—”
“You needn’t apologize.”
“You—you should tie this off,” she told him, gesturing to the loose bandage ends. “You might judge better than I if it’s too tight or not.”
He nodded, then did as she suggested and tied off the bandage. “Could you hand me my trousers?”
“Of course.” She practically dove at his pack, rummaging about carefully before coming up with the fresh trousers. As she turned back to him, it was to find him getting to his feet once more, which left her in a very uncomfortable position, kneeling before him.
He didn't seem to notice, though, as he said, “I think I might need a bit of assistance here. My leg is terribly shaky.”
She nodded. “Of—of course.”
Taking the trousers back, she waited until he lifted first his left foot, then his right, to step into them, then she rose, dragging them up with her as she did. The backs of her fingers brushed along the warm skin of his lower stomach, where just below his navel, a narrow trail of coarser, honey-gold hair led down into the waist of small clothes. She swallowed hard, trying not to think of the dark shadow she’d seen through his wet underthings only a short while ago, but all she could do was wonder if it was the same honey-gold color.
And that led to—
Stop it!
“I think I can manage this,” he said, slipping his fingers between hers and his body.
“Oh, yes… of course.”
He held her gaze. “Are you certain you’re all right?”
She nodded. “I am, of course. I’m just… shaken, as I said. Orcs don't normally come so close. I’ve been here a while now and it’s only over the last several days that I’ve had to worry about them on my property. And that I was so blasted careless that I left my sword here and my bow out of reach and if you hadn’t heard them and come along, and you shouldn’t even be up on that leg yet and I put you in danger as well and I’m so sorry and my words are just falling all over the place and yet—”
“It’s all right,” he told her softly, his fingers curving about hers now. “I’m all right and you’re all right and that’s all that matters in the end.”
She looked up at him, shaking her head. “No, it was careless of me and I know better than that. Careless can get you killed. Especially where orcs are concerned. And I know better.”
“Neither of us is killed, though. So, please, don’t do this to yourself. Don’t take on a burden that isn’t yours to bear.”
“You don’t understand, I know better.”
He brought his hands up now, curving them against her cheeks. “I do understand. Believe me, I do,” he murmured, his eyes searching hers. “Do not do that to yourself.”
The air around them thickened, crackled with an energy she’d never felt before and while she knew she should pull away from him, she couldn't make herself move. His thumbs brushed lightly along her cheeks, a gentle stroke she only just barely felt and at the same time, it unleashed a thousand butterflies deep within her, their wildly flapping wings battering her insides as she gazed up at him.
He leaned in and her fingers curled about his thick wrists as his lips captured hers in a kiss so soft, so gentle, she wouldn’t have believed it, had she not been the one he kissed. His lips were soft and dry and a warm as they moved slowly against hers. His eyes were closed, so she closed hers as well, but when she felt the gentle probe of the tip of his tongue against her lips, they snapped back open again.
Slowly, she parted her lips. As she did, his tongue slid between them, along hers, in a caress that both horrified and fascinated her. Never before had anyone kissed her in this manner. What few kisses she’d experienced were dry little pecks, and elicited not much more than the urge to get away from the one doing the kissing. She’d never felt the sinfully sweet caress of soft lips moving against hers, and had anyone ever suggested touching her tongue with his? She’d have brained him for his cheek.
And what a mistake that would have been, for this kiss was utterly delightful and heady and made her blood rush faster through her veins, burn warmer, while her heart tripled its pace. Now, her eyes closed because the lids grew too heavy to remain open, and she leaned carefully into him. Heat wafted from his bare chest, but this wasn't the same heat of fever. This was something far different. Different and fascinating and she wanted to feel more of it.
She had touch him, and so slid her hand from his wrist to his elbow, then up over the solid bulge of his biceps to the rounded muscle of his shoulder. His fingers tightened against her cheeks in response, tilting her head slightly as he deepened his kiss. Her head spun, slowly at first, but then with far more force as his tongue caressed hers harder now.
His fingers splayed across her cheeks, stretching up into her hair, which she’d pulled back into a sensible knot before heading into the garden. They jostled the few pins she’d slid into it to keep it in place, knocking them askew as he loosened several tendrils from the knot. His thumbs brushed along her cheeks, surprisingly gentle and each caress served only to speed up her heart by several beats. No man had ever kissed her this way before, in a way that made her heart race and her head spin and her breath nearly impossible to catch. In a way that made her want to explore so much more with him, beginning with him and seeing where her exploration led.
The heat that wafted from his skin burned hotter, sinking into her fingertips, her palms, and she felt more than a pang of disappointment when he slowly broke the kiss, pulled away, but then  caught her bottom lip between his for one last, teasing caress.
She waited for him to break away from her, to insist he’d made a horrible mistake and that he’d never meant to kiss her. But, he did neither. Instead, he pressed his forehead to hers and murmured, “If you wish to slap me for that, I’ll not stop you nor fault you.”
Her thoughts were a muddied mess inside her head and she slowly shook it in an attempt to clear it. “I’ll—I’ll not slap you. But why did you—”
Just beyond the kitchen, the sound of branches breaking had her practically leaping away from him, her heart going from triple its pace from Boromir’s kiss to feeling as if it had just stopped beating entirely. “I hope our orc did not have friends.”
“Stay here,” he told her, moving her slightly to his right.
“No,” she darted around him to grab her sword from where it stood by the kitchen door, “you stay here.”
“Kaia—”
She didn't wait, but grabbed her steel with one hand and pulled open the kitchen door with the other, then stepped out onto the small, bowing porch, ready to face however many orcs the dead one traveled with, just in time to see a flash of white as the deer bolted and disappeared into the trees beyond her garden.
Silence fell once more. The only orc in their midst lay in two pieces not fifteen feet from where she stood.
“Kaia?”
“I’m fine,” she turned to peer at Boromir standing in the kitchen doorway. “Our orc was only a deer.”
She wrinkled her nose at the foul stench that seemed stronger by the minute and swallowed hard as she turned back toward the dead orc. “I should bury him before he attracts unwanted company.”
“You should burn it.”
“I would, but the smoke might also draw attention as well.”
“And it doesn’t here?” He gestured toward the roof.
“I know… I’ve been lucky so far.”
He limped out onto the porch. “Kaia…”
She sighed softly. “I know. I’ll burn it. There’s a clearing just down the path and—”
“I will help.”
“Don’t be silly,” she scoffed, shaking her head. “Go and rest and I will see this—”
“I said,” he growled, his voice low, “I will help. I am not so helpless that I cannot light a fire.”
He didn't wait for her to respond, but stumped slowly down the porch steps and over to where the orc’s corpse lay. With a hint of wince, he crouched to grab the creature’s ankles, and then straightened to drag it away from the house, out of sight down past the garden.
She sighed as she realized what she’d done. Although she hadn’t meant it as an insult, she’d no doubt insulted him just the same. Well, fine, if he wanted to hurt himself to prove something, she would let him. And when it was all said and done, she’d patch him together again if need be.
Although she would not hesitate to offer up an I told you so when it happened.
