“We’re here, we’ll update you if anything comes of it,” Morgan promises Hotch over the phone as we walk to the front porch of one of our witnesses. Something about his story is messed up and we were the unlucky ones who had to go talk to him. It’s a pretty house I guess, a little expensive for what a 26 year old man could afford, and what he would want to buy. It’s all fifties style, the entire estate is. Big-enough bungalows with pastel walls and inviting doors with a small porch, just enough for the entry-way and a chair. I knock on the door, exhausted from the past 72 hours. Aaron and I got in a fight before we got to Ohio, it was unnecessary, but we fought all the same. He was mad at me for giving Jack advice that led to a fight between them. I just wanted to kiss and make up 3 days ago but he won’t budge. Maybe it’s because he knows I’m right and doesn’t want to confront it or maybe it’s because I took it too far and overstepped. Jack calls me ‘mom’, I live with him, and Jack came to me for support, he wanted guidance and I gave him it. He was mad at his dad because he missed meeting his girlfriend. His girlfriend, Ava, was a lovely girl, I had been the one there when Jack brought her over for dinner, I was the one trying to suss out if they actually liked each other, and I was the one Jack sat down with for 2 hours after and told everything about her to. All because Aaron was too busy with paperwork in his study. Jack was hurt, which is difficult to do because he’s such an understanding 16 year-old boy. It was also hard because I saw both sides. I’ll be the first to admit that what Aaron did was wrong, but our job is hard and demanding, especially his since he’s the leader of our team… But Jack just wanted 2 hours of his time, not even, just a dinner. A dinner to meet his girlfriend, and Aaron still couldn’t make it.
I knock again as I huff.
“Everything alright?” Morgan asks, the regular playful glint in his eye.
“Tired, mad, over this job. You?” I sigh.
“Sounds about right,” He chuckles. “How’s Jack doing?”
A smile spreads across my face. “He has a girlfriend,” Morgan’s face lights up in a smile.
“My man,” He smirks and I chuckle. “You two met her yet?”
My face drops again. “I have, Aaron… couldn’t make it to the dinner though. She’s lovely, perfect for Jack. It's so funny, it’s just opposites attract. Jack is so sporty and outspoken and she’s one of the quieter, more into her studies kind of person.”
The door swings open and we’re met with David, our witness.
“You two know what time it is?” He yawns.
“Oh trust us, we know,” Morgan sighs. “Can we ask you a few more questions?”
“It’s 10pm at night? Can’t this wait ‘till the morning?”
“It’ll only take a few minutes,” I reassure.
He looks between us for a moment, then sighs. “Quickly.”
We walk inside and are immediately hit with an awful smell. I know that smell. That’s when I see it, a body.
And that’s when it all goes black.
I wake up in a new room, tied to a chair. I don’t see Derrick anywhere. I don’t see David anywhere. I’m all alone in this grey room. I don’t see a door but I notice a camera, and a screen in front of me. I see Penelope on the screen, then a sign above it with “Don’t make noise” scribbled. I look to my left and see a plastic window, I see Morgan through it, tied up too. He sees me.
“Y/n? Y/n?! Where are you?” Penelope squeals. I shake my head and she picks up her phone and tries calling mine, it rings and I feel something go into my side. I scream out in pain as I see the blood start trickling out of me. Penelope drops her phone, then picks it up, dialling someone else’s number.
I get switched to a joint call with Penelope, and the rest of the team, excluding Aaron.
“Y/n?” Spencer asks and I nod, sobbing in pain. Spencer runs off-screen, leaving Jj and Emily to stare in horror at me.
Spencer comes back with Aaron and we make eye-contact through the screen, and he starts breaking. He’s shouting orders at the policemen in the precinct, he’s shouting orders at the team, and he’s trying not to cry. I know that. I also know I’m the only one who knows that. He hides it pretty well but not from me, not after all of our years together. His eyes squint, his eyebrows furrow more than usual, he starts biting at the skin around his nails.
“We’re coming to find you. We will find you,” he promises me. I nod slowly as the pain in my side becomes unbearable as the knife is pulled out.
“Is Morgan with you?” Emily asks and I nod as I bite my lip until it bleeds to stop myself from making too much noise.
“Is he in the room with you?” Spencer asks.
I shake my head no. After what feels like an eternity of yes or no questions, they think they’ve located us.I hear banging on the door and then it opens. Spencer is standing there with an entire Swat team behind him. I shake my head to tell them to not make noise but they talk anyway and another knife is put into my leg, I don’t have the strength to stay quiet this time and another finds its way into my arm. I pass out.
I wake up in a hospital bed, an IV in my arm, Aaron on one side and Jack on the other. Aaron’s asleep in a chair on my left, I grimace, knowing his back will hurt.
“Mom?!” Jack exclaims as he sees me open my eyes. “Mom!” His eyes fill with tears as he gets up and wraps his arms around me on the bed.
“Jack,” I sigh in relief.
“You’re okay! You’re awake!” He smiles brightly, happy that I’m alive.
Aaron wakes up from the commotion and rushes to my side. “Honey?” He takes my hand and squeezes. “You’re okay.”
I smile at both of them.
“I’ll go get the doctor,” Jack smiles and he rushes off to find a doctor.
“Honey I’m so sorry I shouldn’t have-” He starts but I cut him off.
“I love you.”
“I love you too,” he sighs, tears welling up in his eyes.
“Don’t go all soft now Aaron,” I joke.
“You make me soft,” He smiles and presses a soft kiss to my cheek.
Jack comes back in with a doctor. She tells me that I lost a lot of blood and that I will be out of the field for a few months, with 2 weeks of mandatory bedrest, then 4 weeks of physical therapy.
The next day, the team come in to visit.
“Hey,” Spencer smiles, walking in first. I’ve always been close to Spencer, he’s always felt like a little brother to me.
“Hey,” I smile and wince when I hug him, but I know it’s worth it. The rest of the team filter in, smiles on their faces.“So what happened after I went out?”
“Well, they got me, no injuries apart from a concussion,” Morgan says.
“We got the guy-” Emily starts.
“Aaron got the guy,” Spencer interrupts. “He saw him and just shot him-”
“And then he beat the crap out of him,” Jj says. “It was pretty intense.”
I nod along as they tell me the story, and then we just talk about whatever until Aaron comes in and says visiting hours are over. Spencer leaves me a few more books to read and Jj brings Jack to Ava’s house for the night. Aaron walks in with my dinner on a tray.
“Hungry?” He smiles.
“You shot someone for me?” I ask as he places my tray down.
“Yes.”
I roll my eyes and smile at him. “Is he alive?”
“No.”
My face drops. “Oh.”
“It was the combined bleeding and head trauma that killed him.”
“You shouldn’t have done that.”
“I did.”
I look at my food. “I understand you wanted to protect me-”
“I did that because he doesn’t get to live after doing this to you. Honey, you and Jack are the most important people in my life and I would do anything if it meant that you were safe and sound. Do you want to know how it felt to have what could’ve been my last words to you be ‘stop bothering me’? I was an asshole to you over the Jack situation because I knew you were right. I knew it wasn’t fair to not go to dinner when I was in the house. I knew it was important and it just felt too real. It felt like he was growing up and I just couldn’t take it because I missed so much of his childhood! So I’m sorry, I’m so so sorry that I said everything I said and did what I did, but I am not sorry about hurting that fucking monster,” He takes a deep breath. “Now eat up, it’ll go cold.”
“I love you Aaron, it’s ok. It wasn’t your fault, being a parents is hard.”
His eyes fill with tears and he looks at me like an injured puppy.
“Come here,” I smile and move over, allowing room for him to sit with me. He climbs into bed beside me and wraps his arms around me, being careful of my wounds.
“I love you,” he whispers as I slowly eat my food.
“I love you too.”

Getting Ava ready to see her dad at work was a lot. It had been the first time since her and Aaron were apart, since he took a few months off for her arrival . You didn’t know who was taking it harder.
Ava had been way more fussy with you. Giving you the Aaron stare that she had perfected by time she was three months. Aside from the fussiness she was fine the moment she heard Aaron’s voice. He was also not doing so good with cases on top of missing Ava and you.
It’s was harder now because he felt he had to fight even harder to solve every case. Knowing that one less person on the street is one less that could hurt his favorite girls. Ava was finally 5 months, not doing much but looking around and giggling.
You had called Gracia to see when they would be done with the case. Finding out it did not end well at all and the team was exhausted. They still had hours of paper work to come back to. So, you decided to surprise your favorite people and favorite guy.
Walking into the bullpen seeing them working hard when Derek noticed you.
“Is that my beautiful and brilliant God-niece ava and her gorgeous mother?” He said coming to take the car seat off your arm, Ava smiling in response to her Godfather.
Soon after that the team gathered around with heart eyes for the small hotchner. Aaron still not out of his office yet to see his daughter was here. By the time she got out of Spencer’s arm she was more fussy than ever. You knew she was probably just hungry, again.
You grabbed her burp towel and walked to Aaron’s office with a soft knock. A faint come in coming from the other side of the door. You walked in to a very focused Aaron he didn’t even noticed you both had walked in.
Ava quickly noticing her father and letting out a small giggle his head snapping toward the door. All his worries fell as he seen the both of you. A huge cheeky smile going over his face as he got up from his desk.
“I’ve missed you both beyond words.” Placing a kiss Ava cheek and one on your lips.
“She’s very very hungry, she keeps staring at me like I’m an unsub.” You smiled sitting on the couch and taking your boob out, Ava latching on easily.
You always felt like it was just the two of you when you breastfed her. It was a special bond honestly and you always got lost in it. Aaron was watching closely as he always did when you fed her.
“Thank you both for coming, I honestly really needed it.” Aaron said getting up to sit next to you on the couch, letting out a sigh of relieve. You smiled at him and placed a kiss on his head.
“You wanna burp her?” Noticing the milk drunk baby under you. Grabbing the burp towel and putting it over his shoulder you handed him ava.
“Hi, my beautiful girl! I’ve missed you.” planting kisses all over her face and then putting her on his shoulder. Living with a profiler meant you picked up a few things. Especially how quiet Aaron was he was usually always rambling about something.
“What’s going on Aar, you’re awfully quiet and you kept the kisses short with Ava”
“Working on your profiling skills I see” he laughed,
“This case just, I don’t know if I should continue this job.”
“Woah, that’s a big decision after one case, are you sure?” It honestly was Aaron had gotten through the worst he had told you half of it. He never wanted to give up on saving the people he could though.
“I … we were being shot at and obviously we are fine but a bullet flew past my head by like an inch. I heard it and I thought I wouldn’t be coming home to you both.” He said all his fears with a tear falling onto Ava’s onesie. The biggest fear after meeting you was never able to grow old with you. Then his Ava came along and the fear grew stronger. Aaron dedicated his life to the bureau and he knew it but he had two other people that he needed to give his life too.
The thought of living life and raising a child without Aaron hunted you a lot. You mostly shoved it down because you didn’t want him to have that same fear. You still found comfort in knowing you both were afraid of his job.
“Aaron, i couldn’t imagine life without but I know how important the BAU is to you. Ava and I will support you through anything.”
That you would, the BAU was his life and you didn’t know how he’d be without out. Taking Ava off his shoulder he asked her.
“You want your dad at home more my pretty girl?” Ava smiling at him as always giving Aaron the confirmation he needed.

Would you ever be willing to write some sort of sequel to annihilation? Maybe one about how they’re dealing with their issues and trying to make it work or possibly the emotions of Emily ending up pregnant again? Bonus if it’s super duper angsty. Please don’t feel any pressure to write one if you don’t want to, I just thought it would be an interesting idea
Hi bestie!
I’ve gone back and forth since I wrote Annihilation on whether I’d write a follow up, and I’ve always settled on just leaving it as it is. I’ve purposely left it relatively open ended so people can make their own conclusions on what happens next.
I do, however, have my own little head canon, so I’ve put that below the cut for anyone who wants it ❤️
I think they make it.
It’s hard, and it’s a long road, but they make it. They both put in the work because they love each other.
They do end up having a baby. The pregnancy is difficult emotionally for both of them, but when their daughter is born they fall in love immediately.
They call her Ava Jacqueline Hotchner, after the older brother she’d never get to meet but would always know.

idk why but this made sense to me:
in my fantasy world where i have a hypothetical son with dr spencer reid; they would be named gus, cos it’s just too cute & would suit a little reid kid so well i think
buuuut i got to thinking: if i had a son with unit chief aaron hotchner i feel like i’d have to go with something i guess more strong sounding. liiike my brain immediately thought of the names dean & wolfgang (wolf for short) idk i feel like with a son called jack, aaron probably digs the powerful sounding names
Gus is so cute, especially if it’s short for august
I always wonder what Hotch would call his kids if he had more of them. Jack is a very common name and I can’t really imagine him totally changing the vibe and going with something super uncommon. You’ve indulged me now so I’m going to write a list of names like I did for Spencer that I think Hotch would name his kid
Ava/Eva
Eden
Everly
Eve/Evie
Alison
Belle/Bella
Zoey
Lily
Sophie
Grace
Daisy
Gemma
Brooke- i love him naming his kid something related to Haley without it literally being Haley because that's a lil awkward
Christopher
Noah

Ghost of a memory
It was early in the morning, the neighborhood calm as Ava stepped out of her car, the sun warm on her skin, as she made her way up the walkway to Aaron Hotchner's front door. She had been babysitting for Aaron's seven-year-old son, Jack, for a few months now, and she enjoyed the routine of it all. Jack brought a unique light with him, despite having lost his mother at a very young age. They would spend the day playing in the park, doing arts and crafts, and reading books. It was a nice break from the chaos of her own life.
Ava knocked on the door and heard the sound of footsteps approaching from inside. The door opened to reveal Aaron, looking dapper as always in his suit and tie. 'Good morning, Ava,' he said, flashing her a smile. 'Jack's been looking forward to spending the day with you.' Ava returned the smile, feeling a warm sense of belonging as she stepped inside. Even though she was just the babysitter, she felt like part of the family.
Ava knocked on the door and heard the sound of footsteps approaching from inside. The door opened to reveal Aaron, looking dapper as always in his suit and tie. 'Good morning, Ava,' he said, but his expression seemed strained. 'I'm sorry to call you in on your day off, but something came up at work and I need to be there. I'll be back as soon as I can.' Ava nodded, understanding that Aaron's job as the head of the Behavioral Analysis Unit was demanding. She had signed up for the unpredictable hours when she took the job as Jack's babysitter. Still, it was disappointing not to have a day off. 'No problem, I'm happy to help,' she said. Aaron gave her a grateful smile. 'Jack's been looking forward to spending the day with you.'
Ava followed Aaron into the living room, where Jack was sitting on the couch, engrossed in a cartoon on TV. 'Hey, buddy,' Ava said, ruffling his hair. Jack looked up and grinned at her. 'Hi, Ava!' he said, before turning his attention back to the TV. Ava smiled at him before turning to Aaron. 'Is there anything you need me to do, or can I just hang out with Jack?' Aaron shook his head. 'No, you're good to go. Jack knows the routine, and you have my number if anything comes up. I'll see you later.' With that, Aaron was out the door, leaving Ava alone with Jack.
Ava settled onto the couch next to Jack, her mind racing with all the things she could do with him today. 'So, Jack, what do you want to do today?' she asked. Jack turned to her, a thoughtful expression on his face. 'Can we go to the park?' he asked. Ava nodded, pleased with the suggestion. 'Sure thing, kiddo. Let's go get your shoes on and we'll head out.' As she helped Jack put on his shoes, Ava couldn't help but feel grateful for moments like these. Spending time with Jack was a welcome break from her problems, and she was determined to make the most of their day together.
A few minutes later, Ava and Jack were walking towards the park, hand in hand. The sun was shining, and a light breeze kept the temperature comfortable. Jack chattered away about his favorite TV show, while Ava listened attentively, occasionally interjecting with a comment or a question. As they reached the park, Jack's eyes widened with excitement. 'Can we go on the swings first?' he asked, tugging on Ava's hand. Ava smiled and nodded, leading him to the swings. As Jack giggled with joy, Ava couldn't help but feel content. She was exactly where she was meant to be.
After a while, Ava and Jack moved on to the slide, and then to the monkey bars. As Jack climbed across the bars, Ava watched him closely, her heart full of affection for the boy. She felt lucky to be a part of his life, even if it was just as a babysitter. Suddenly, her phone rang, startling her out of her reverie. She dug her phone out of her pocket to see a number she didn't recognize. 'Hello?' she answered tentatively.
Ava waited for a response, but all she could hear was heavy breathing on the other end of the line. 'Hello? Who is this?' she asked again, but there was no reply. Suddenly, the line went dead. Ava was about to put her phone back in her pocket when she noticed something was wrong. She looked over to where Jack had been playing, but he was no longer there. She spun around, scanning the park for any sign of him, her heart racing with fear. Then, she saw him on the ground, clutching his knee in pain. 'Jack!' she called out, running towards him. As she reached him, she saw that he had hurt his knee. Ava's mind raced with worry, and she did her best to comfort Jack, who was now crying. She checked his knee and determined that he could not walk on it. Ava picked Jack up in her arms and carried him to the car, her heart heavy with concern.
As Ava carried Jack to the car, her mind drifted back to the phone call she had just received. It had been a while since she had received such calls, long before she started working for Aaron. What had changed now? Was it just a prank, or was someone stalking her? Her eyes searched around the park, but all she could see were kids playing with their parents or babysitters. She felt a chill run down her spine as she thought about the possibility of someone watching her and Jack, following them wherever they went. She pushed the thought aside, focusing on Jack and his injury, and made her way to the car, determined to get him home and taken care of.
But before Ava could get into her car, something tugged on her leg. Ava frowned as she glanced down, meeting the soft blue eyes of a little girl. The girl looked up at Ava with a shy smile, clutching a teddy bear tightly. 'Hi, my name is Emily,' the girl said, her voice barely above a whisper. 'I lost my mommy. Can you help me find her?' Ava's heart sank at the thought of a lost child, and she couldn't refuse the girl's request. She looked around to see if anyone was searching for her, but she didn't see anyone. 'Sure, let's go look for your mommy,' Ava said, putting on a brave face for the little girl. She picked up Jack with one arm and took Emily's hand with the other, leading them towards the park's entrance, all the while keeping a watchful eye out for any sign of danger.
As they made their way through the park, Ava couldn't shake off the feeling of unease that lingered in the back of her mind. She kept a tight grip on Jack's hand, constantly checking over her shoulder to see if anyone was following them. Emily walked quietly beside her, her small hand gripping Ava's tightly as they searched for her mother.
Ava's phone rang once again, making her jump. She quickly answered it, hoping it was Aaron checking up on them. But all she heard was heavy breathing on the other end. Her heart raced as she tried to speak, but the caller hung up before she could say anything. She looked down at Emily and Jack, both oblivious to the call, and she realized that she needed to get them to safety as soon as possible.
With a growing sense of urgency, Ava guided the children to her car, keeping a watchful eye out for any suspicious activity. She buckled Jack in the car seat, her hands shaking slightly as she tried to calm her nerves.
As Ava turned to speak to Emily, she felt a sudden, sharp pain at the back of her head. She instinctively reached up to touch the spot, but her hand came away sticky with blood. Panic set in as she heard Jack crying for her, and then everything went black.
When Ava came to, she found herself lying in front of her car in the park. Her head throbbed with pain, and her vision was blurry. She struggled to sit up, and that's when she realized that Jack and Emily were gone. Her heart raced as she tried to remember what had happened, but everything was a blur.
She stumbled to her feet and searched the park, calling out their names, but there was no response. Her phone was gone, and she was alone, with no way to call for help. She felt helpless and vulnerable, with the knowledge that her young charges were out there somewhere, in the hands of a kidnapper.
Ava knew that she had to think quickly and take action if she wanted any chance of finding Jack and Emily. She forced herself to focus, trying to recall any details that might lead her to their whereabouts. She looked around the park, searching for any clues or signs of what might have happened.
Her heart pounding with fear, Ava took a deep breath and set off, determined to find the children and bring them back to safety, no matter what it took.
Ava's voice was hoarse as she screamed out Jack's name, her heart pounding with every second that passed without a response. She stumbled towards a woman who was walking by, begging her for help and her phone. The woman looked alarmed at Ava's disheveled state, but she handed over her phone, and Ava dialed Aaron's number frantically.
As soon as he answered, Ava, burst into tears. "Jack's gone," she sobbed. "I don't know where he is. I can't find him."
Aaron's voice was calm but urgent. "What do you mean gone? Where are you?"
She shook her head, even though he couldn't see her. "I'm still at the park," Ava replies, her voice shaking. "I don't know what happened, someone hit me and I blacked out, when I woke up they were both gone. Someone took them."
Aaron's silence is heavy, and Ava can hear the sound of him moving around in the background. "Stay there, I'm on my way," he finally says before hanging up.
Ava stands there, her heart racing and her mind racing with possibilities of what could have happened.
As she stands there in the park, Ava feels a sense of overwhelming guilt washes over her. She should have been more careful, and more aware of her surroundings. Maybe then she could have prevented this from happening. She thinks back to the strange phone calls and letters she had been receiving lately, but at the time she didn't think much of them. Now, she wonders if they were all connected to Jack's disappearance.
Her thoughts are interrupted by the sound of sirens approaching. Aaron has arrived, accompanied by several other agents from the BAU. Ava rushes over to him, tears streaming down her face.
"I'm sorry," she sobs. "I didn't know what to do."
Aaron's expression softens as he pulls her into a hug. "It's okay," he reassures her. "We'll find him."
The team immediately begins their investigation, questioning witnesses and combing through the park for any clues. Ava feels helpless as she watches them work, her mind consumed with worry for Jack and Emily.
“And this girl just came out of nowhere?” Derek asked again, he was standing in front of her shaking form, he moved her away from the noise, JJ sitting next to her.
“Yeah… She said she lost her mother.” Ava nodded her head.
“It could be a ruse, he use the girl to let her guard down.” JJ sighed looking up at Derek.
Derek nodded, his mind racing with the possibilities of what could have happened to Jack. "We need to find out if anyone saw anything or if there were any witnesses," he said, taking out his phone and calling Penelope.
JJ placed a gentle hand on Ava's shoulder, trying to calm her down. "It's going to be okay," she said softly. "We're going to find him."
Ava nodded, tears still streaming down her face. "I don't know what to do," she said, her voice trembling.
Derek turned to her, his expression serious. "You did the right thing by calling Aaron, and then us. We're going to do everything we can to find Jack."
Ava took a deep breath, trying to steady herself. She knew she had to be strong, for Jack's sake. "Okay," she said, wiping her tears away.
. . .
Ava's hands were shaking as she held a cup of coffee, her eyes fixed on the wall in front of her. She could feel the weight of everyone's eyes on her, and it made her feel sick. She knew she had messed up, and she couldn't bear the thought of Jack being hurt because of her mistake.
JJ had been trying to comfort her, but Ava could see the concern etched into her friend's face.
Ava buried her face in her hands, trying to hold back the tears that threatened to spill out. She felt like a failure like she had let everyone down. JJ placed a comforting hand on her shoulder, giving it a gentle squeeze.
"We're going to find him, Ava," JJ said softly. "We're not giving up."
Ava nodded, trying to compose herself. She knew JJ was right, but the waiting was agonizing. She glanced around the room, watching as everyone worked tirelessly to find any leads on Jack's whereabouts. She couldn't help but feel guilty, knowing that she was the reason they were all here.
Aaron was nowhere to be seen, and Ava knew he was probably blaming himself for letting her go to the park alone with Jack, regretting that he trusted her.
As the hours ticked by, Ava's hope began to dwindle. She tried to push away the thought of Jack being hurt or worse, but it was impossible. She couldn't shake off the guilt that was gnawing at her insides, and she knew she would never forgive herself if anything happened to Jack.
Aaron suddenly appeared in the doorway, his eyes scanning the room until they landed on her. He motioned for her to follow him, and she stood up hesitantly her heart racing.
As soon as Ava stepped into Aaron's office, she knew something was wrong. The way he was staring at her with cold, hard eyes made her feel like she was in trouble. She swallowed nervously as he closed the door behind them, and she turned to face him.
"Ava, walk me through your day with Jack," he said, his voice low and controlled.
She tried to recall every detail, starting from the moment she picked Jack up to the time he disappeared. As she spoke, Aaron's expression remained unchanged. Then, she remembered the call she received earlier that day. "Wait, there was a call," she said, her voice shaking slightly. "It was from a blocked number, but they hung up without saying anything
Aaron's eyes narrowed. "Why didn't you tell me about this before?"
"I didn't think it was important at the time," she said, feeling a lump form in her throat.
Hotch stepped closer, towering over her. "You didn't think it was important? A stalker has been harassing you and my son, and you didn't think it was important to mention a suspicious phone call?"
Ava felt herself shrinking under his intense gaze. "I didn't make the connection until now," she admitted, her voice barely above a whisper.
Aaron's anger seemed to reach a boiling point, and he slammed his hands down on his desk, trapping her between his arms. "You put my son in danger," he hissed, his face inches away from hers.
“I'm sorry.”
Suddenly, the door bursts open and Rossi and JJ rush in. They see the tense situation and immediately step in between Ava and Aaron.
"Hotch, that's enough," Rossi says firmly.
JJ looks at Ava with a gentle expression. "Ava, come with me," she says softly, extending her hand.
Ava nods gratefully, taking JJ's hand as she stands up. She doesn't dare look back at Aaron as JJ leads her out of the office.
Once they are outside, JJ guides Ava to a nearby couch and sits down next to her. "Are you okay?" she asks, concern etched in her voice.
Ava shakes her head, tears streaming down her face. "I don't know what to do," she sobs. "I don't know how to find him."
JJ puts an arm around her and holds her close. "We'll find him, Ava," she says firmly. "We'll do whatever it takes."
. . .
Ava's heart sank as she heard the silence on the other end of the line. It was the same blocked number. The man didn't say anything at first, but then he spoke with a menacing tone. “You for him,”
A chill ran down Ava's spine as she realized the gravity of the situation. She couldn't believe what she was hearing. She was terrified at the thought of being the one to take Jack's place. Her mind raced as she tried to come up with a plan, but she was too scared to even think straight.
After a few moments of silence, Ava finally found her voice. "Who are you?" she asked, trying to sound strong and in control, but her voice trembled with fear.
The man on the other end didn't answer her question, instead, he repeated his demand. "You for him. If you don't come, the boy dies."
Ava's hands were shaking. She couldn't believe that she was in this situation. She had to do something, but what could she do?
She stands there in shock, the phone still pressed to her ear. She can feel her heart pounding in her chest as she struggles to find the words to respond.
"What do you mean?" she finally manages to stammer out, her voice barely above a whisper.
"I mean exactly what I said, no police involved," the man on the other end of the line replies, his voice chillingly calm. "You for him. If you want to see the boy alive again, you'll come to the location I provide and bring yourself to me."
Ava feels her stomach drop as the realization hits her. This is what she's been dreading all along - the stalker's endgame. And now, she has to make a decision.
She'll do whatever it takes.
“Tell me when and where.”
As Ava hung up the phone, she knew what she had to do. She couldn't risk anyone else's life, not even Jack's. She had to go alone.
She quickly made her way to the bathroom, trying to calm her racing heart. She splashed cold water on her face, trying to steady her nerves. She couldn't believe what she was about to do.
Ava knew that if anyone found out what she was planning, they would never let her go alone. But she couldn't risk it. She had to save Jack.
She took a deep breath and made her way to the door. She peeked out into the hallway, making sure that no one was around. The coast was clear, and Ava slipped out undetected.
She made her way to her car, her mind racing with fear and adrenaline. She couldn't believe that this was happening. She tried to push the fear aside and focus on the task at hand.
Ava drove to the location the stalker had given her. She didn't know what to expect, but she was prepared for the worst. She parked the car a few blocks away and walked to the address.
Ava's heart was pounding in her chest as she made her way to the meeting place, her mind racing with fear and anxiety. She had managed to sneak out undetected, but now she was face-to-face with the stalker, and she couldn't believe what she was seeing.
She couldn't understand how or why. Her mind was in a fog as she tried to make sense of it all, but before she could say anything, she realized that Jack wasn't there.
"Where's Jack?" she demanded, her voice trembling with anger and fear.
The stalker just grinned at her, a sickeningly twisted smile that made her skin crawl. "You'll never see him again," he said, his voice low and menacing.
Ava's heart sank as she realized that she had been deceived. The stalker had never intended to let Jack go. He had just used her to get what he wanted.
Ava felt a surge of rage fills her body. This man had taken everything from her. She wasn't going to let him take her too.
“You son of a bitch!” She moved toward him, pushing him back.  But he wouldn't budge, he glared at her, his hand landing on her cheek as he hit her.
Ava hit the ground hard, her head ringing with pain. But she didn't give up. She kicked out at the stalker, catching him off guard and sending him reeling backward.
For a moment, Ava thought she might have the upper hand. But the stalker was too quick. He came at her with renewed energy, his fists flying. Ava tried to fight back, but she was quickly overwhelmed. The stalker was too strong.
He pushed her hard, sending her crashing into a wall. Ava's head hit the bricks with a sickening thud, and everything went black.
. . .
In the meantime, Hotch was sitting behind his desk when Rossi came in. "They found him, he was dropped off in a church near the park. "
Hotch's heart skipped a beat as Rossi's words registered in his mind. "Is he okay?" he asked, his voice barely above a whisper.
"He's alive," Rossi replied, a small smile tugging at the corner of his lips. "He's shaken up, but physically unharmed."
Hotch let out a breath he didn't even know he was holding. Relief flooded his body, and he felt tears prick at the corners of his eyes. "Thank God," he said, his voice choked with emotion.
Rossi nodded, his voice filled with emotion. "Yeah, thank God."
The happiness was short-lived, when Jack asked about Ava, everyone was too stunned to speak, how did they manage not to notice that she was missing? JJ's eyes narrowed as she stared at Aaron. "Do you think she-?" Her gaze drifted to Jack in a pointing manner.
Aaron let out a sigh before tilting his head to the side. Once outside, the team gathered in a circle. “What do we know so far?”
Rossi spoke up. "Based on what we know about the stalker so far, it's likely that they have a personal connection to Ava. Maybe an ex-boyfriend or someone who has been fixated on her for a while."
Spencer nodded in agreement. "And given the nature of the stalker's behavior, it's possible that they're trying to punish Ava for something that they perceive she did wrong."
JJ's eyes widened as she suddenly had an idea. "What if the stalker thinks Ava is responsible for their loss or pain? It could be someone who is blaming Ava for something that's not even her fault."
As they were discussing the potential profile of the stalker, Penelope interrupted them. "Hey guys, I just found something. Ava was receiving calls from a blocked number in the days leading up to her disappearance. And that same number called her just before she went missing."
JJ's hunch was confirmed, and the team now had a new lead to follow. They knew that the stalker was likely the person behind the blocked number and that they had a personal connection to Ava.
They worked quickly to track down the location of the last call and organized a search party. They were running out of time and had to act fast.
The team arrived at the location, a deserted warehouse on the outskirts of town. They spread out, searching every corner for any sign of Ava or the stalker. Rossi noticed a door that seemed out of place and motioned for the others to follow him.
As they entered the room, they were greeted by a shocking sight. Ava was there, tied up and gagged, with the stalker standing over her.
Her heart broke at the sight of him. He was here, he found her. And at that moment she smiled, even though it seemed impossible. “Aaron… Get out of here.” Her voice is hoarse as she spoke. Ava winced as the gun was forced into her forehead
Aaron's heart raced as he saw the fear in Ava's eyes, but he refused to leave her side. He knew he had to act fast to save her from the dangerous situation they were in. “I'm not going anywhere.” He let out softly. “Jack needs you.”
Hope spread through her chest, and she stayed silent, it was heavy. “He's alive.” She whispered.
“Shut up!!” The stalker yelled at her.  The sudden outburst of the stalker made her heart race with fear. She tried to calm herself down and think of a way to escape from the situation.
“I'm not letting you take her!” He turned toward Aaron, “I waited so long to find her. ”
Ava's heart sank as she heard the stalker's words. She realized that this wasn't going to end well. She looked into Aaron's eyes and saw the determination. She knew he would do anything to protect her and Jack.
But she couldn't bear the thought of him getting hurt or worse. "Aaron, please..." she whispered, tears streaming down her face. "I don't want you to see this. Take care of Jack for me."
Aaron's eyes widened as he realized what she was trying to do. "No, Ava, I'm not leaving you here with him."
But the stalker had had enough of their conversation. "Shut up, both of you!" he shouted.
Ava's heart was racing with fear as she tried to think of a way out. She looked up at Aaron, her eyes pleading with him to leave. "Please, Aaron," she whispered.
As Ava spoke, the stalker's grip on her tightened. He pressed the gun harder against her forehead. Ava closed her eyes and waited for the worst to happen.
A single shot rang through the empty warehouse, and their breath hitched. And the sound of two bodies dropping snapped everyone out of their daze.
Her eyes struggled to open as she lay on the harsh floor. All eyes turned toward the shooter, taken back as Aaron rushed to Ava's side, pushing away the dead body of the stalker.
Ava smiled at him in gratitude. Spencer nodded at her, putting away his firearm, the shadow of a memory clouding his face, and at that moment she knew. Being loved by someone deeply gives you strength, and being in love with someone deeply gives you courage.
Spencer wasn't ready to lose anyone the way he lost Maeve. Reid's heart ached as he thought about her. They had shared something special, something that couldn't be described in words. It was a connection that transcended time and space, an unbreakable bond, even in death.
And he wasn't about to stand by and watch the life leaves her eyes.
Aaron gently lifted Ava into his arms, cradling her as they made their way out of the warehouse. The team followed closely behind, all feeling a sense of relief that the ordeal was finally over.
As they stepped out into the cool night air, Ava looked up at Aaron with tears in her eyes. "Thank you," she whispered. "For everything."
Aaron just held her tighter, knowing that words weren't necessary at that moment. They had been through so much together, and they both knew that their bond had only grown stronger.
Spencer watched from a distance, a small smile tugging at the corners of his mouth. He was happy for his friend and colleague, but he couldn't help feeling a twinge of sadness for what he had lost.
But at that moment, all that mattered was the present. Ava was safe, and that was all that truly mattered. The team walked back to their cars, ready to head back to Quantico and put the case behind them.
As they drove away, Ava leaned her head on Aaron's shoulder, feeling a sense of peace wash over her. She knew that the nightmare was over and that she had people in her life who loved her deeply. And that was all the courage she needed to move forward.
"Sometimes the most painful memories, also bring the greatest strength. For in surviving the darkest of moments, we become the light that shines for others to follow." -Unknown.

FBI au for reesker? thank youuu 😃
Agent Hotchner was nice enough, Sarah decided, but he was intimidating and hard to read which made her feel bad at her job before it had begun.
“Everyone, this is Agent Sarah Reese, she’ll be joining us for the time being.”
It was a blonde woman with sharp features that spoke first, her accent catching Sarah off guard, “Agent Bekker, nice to meet you, Reese.”

To See What I see
Tumblr media
MASTERLIST
Pairing: Aaron hotchner x reader
Summary: After giving birth to your daughter, Ava Hotchner 6 months ago, you feel insecure about how your body has changed. You're afraid your husband is no longer attracted to you.
Words: 1.3k
AN: Just a cute idea that popped into my head instead of going to sleep.
Warnings: Might cause FEELS! Fluffy!!
You love being a mom. You love that you’re able to stay home with your two kids, watch them grow and learn things. Seeing the joy in them, helping them with struggles and just showering them with love and support. And your husband, altho he works a lot, he is the most loving father you could imagine a child having.
You’ve had Hotchner as your last name for a little over a year now. You had a beautiful autumn wedding. It was small and intimate, like the both of you wanted. You’ve been a couple for about 3 years and Aaron proposed to you after 18 months of dating.
From Hotch’s previous marriage, he has a son, Jack. An absolute charmer and the two of you hit it off immediately. When you and Aaron told Jack that you would be getting married, the boy was over the moon and asked if it was okay for him to call you Momma. Teary eyed, you told him that nothing would make you happier, but only if he wants to.
Since the first day you saw your husband with his son, you knew what a loving father he is and how much you want to give him another child. And a few weeks before your wedding, you found out that you were expecting. You will never forget the tears in Aaron’s eyes when you told him the news.
Because of Aaron’s job at the FBI, it keeps him away from home, sometimes multiple days at a time. But even from afar, he always made sure you were doing alright and calling Jack every night he was away. Most of the pregnancy went well, but towards the end your blood pressure was pretty high and you had to spend the last couple of weeks on bed rest. During those weeks, Aaron took time off from field work and worked from his home office, just so he would be more available to help you and Jack.
Now, you have a beautiful little girl, already 6 months old. She has his father’s whiskey colored eyes, but looks a lot like you. Everything’s gone by so fast, it’s hard to believe it’s been half a year since you went into labour. Jack is an amazing older brother and the little Hotchner absolutely adores her brother. Giggling whenever he plays with her, her eyes following everywhere he goes. Jack loves reading bedtime stories to her with their dad. It’s great practise for his reading, and special quality time with his dad and sister.
You love every moment of it. But recently, you’ve been feeling insecure about yourself. You are well recovered from labour, but you’re insecure about the way it all has changed your body. You feel like the bags under your eyes are horrendous, there’s stretch marks around your body, on your chest and hips and stomach. And your stomach is not as toned and lean as it used to be, it’s softer and a bit rounder in shape than what it used to be. It’s not the same as it was when you met your husband and it scares you that he might not find you attractive. You’ve been tired and you know Aaron has been too, as the little Ava Hotchner isn’t yet a good sleeper during the nights. Because of that, and your recovery from giving birth, the two of you haven’t had sex in awhile. And a part of you is worried that it’s because he isn’t attracted to you anymore.
“Penny for your thoughts” you hear your husband speaking from somewhere behind you. He had just put the little girl to bed, and tucked Jack in as well. You had taken a shower a moment ago and were now frozen in front of the mirror with a towel wrapped around you. You turn to look towards him and see him leaning on to the door frame of your bedroom. He looks so good in his dark blue t-shirt and gray sweatpants. There’s something about those sweatpants that gets you going, but you’re not sure what that is.
You turn back to the mirror “I don’t feel pretty” you whisper. You take your hands on your belly and squish it through the towel. “I feel like I’ve gained a lot of weight, and I have stretch marks everywhere.” You take a deep breath. Aaron walks up behind you and wraps his long, strong arms around your middle, hugging you. He rests his chin on your shoulder and looks at you in the mirror. “I don’t look like I used to”.
He plants a kiss behind your ear and straightens up, towering up behind you. “You’re right. You don’t look like you used to” he says and you feel your heart sinking to your stomach. A voice in your head keeps yelling at you that you were right, he doesn’t find you attractive anymore. But he continues quickly before the voice takes over “You look incredibly beautiful. I wouldn’t change a thing. Don’t get me wrong, I loved the way you looked when we met. But right now, I see an incredibly strong woman in my arms, a loving mother to our kids. A woman whose body has gone through so much, just to keep our child safe.” Tears are burning in your eyes as he speaks. That’s nothing new to you, as your hormones have been all over the place for months. But the love in his tone shines through so bright and his touch so gentle, you can’t help but melt in his arms. “The stretch marks are only a sign that our little girl has been able to grow safely. And your body has been able to provide everything she has needed for months and months.” His touch has followed your arms that are resting on your stomach. “You look beautiful (Y/N). Now and always. With every imperfection that you can find, I only see a strong, incredible woman behind them and I’m ready to fight those insecurities no matter the time or place.”
“You really think so? You really don’t think I’m too big?” you try to make sure. You let him guide you towards the bed you share with him and he gently pushes you to lay down.
“Without a doubt” he comes on top of you, leaning on his forearms, supporting himself up. One of his hands trace the skin on your side, sending shivers all the way down to your toes. He kisses your lips, passionately, yet gently. “I love you so much (Y/N)” He quickly traces kisses down your throat and you find it hard to find words, instead you just moan as a response. He plants hot, loving kisses on your chest, on every stretch mark he can see. “Arms up” he orders and without any hesitation, you do as he tells. His other hand holds your wrists above your head while the other is firmly on your hips. “Good job, angel” he praises and continues to plant kisses, now on your stomach. Every inch, every imperfection, he takes his time to cover it all, show his love and appreciation. You no longer feel unattractive. Under his touch, you feel like the only woman in the world. His small praises, his gentle touch and just his presence, is enough to make you go crazy. “You are incredible (Y/N). So beautiful, so strong. I, after all these years, continue to be amazed by you, every single day”.
The night is incredible, Aaron is so focused on your pleasure and seeing you pleased pleases him deeply. He makes love to you passionately and you’ve never felt this vulnerable in his arms. You’ve never felt this close to him. You’ve never felt this loved and you can’t help but wonder: How on earth did I get this lucky?
And even if you don’t know it, he’s been thinking of that same thing since the day he met you.
