Because the Darcy Lewis Bingo Mod Team are writers and artists ourselves, we understand that not all prompts are created equal and, therefore, are not necessarily inspiring to all creators. So, for 2024-25, we are including a list of 10 fun, spooky alternate prompts you’re welcome to use on any day you get stumped by the creator prompts we’ve supplied above. Each alternate prompt may only be used once, however, so use them wisely and don’t take them for granted. These are not easier prompts by any means! And don’t forget that all of your Promptober fills must incorporate our beloved Lady of the Astrophysics Lab, Dr. Darcy Lewis!

Important Dates & Deadlines

Promptober begins on August 3rd, 2024 this round, but you know how we feel about deadlines. 🔪 So, for this round of Promptober, we’re doing away entirely with hard deadlines and we mean it! You have from August 3rd, 2024 until our next Halloween event begins, and even beyond that, if you like! Though we do strongly recommend wrapping up this challenge before the next spooky challenge begins, this event remains open basically as long as this bingo exists. No pressure to complete, ever, just inspo and encouragement. 🧡

Promptober Challenges

Promptober Mini Challenge: choose and complete fannish works for any 13 of the prompts from this list for our mini challenge. Creators may choose 13 prompts from the list of prompts—any 13 prompts at all!

Promptober Mega Challenge: choose and complete fannish works for 31 of the listed prompts for our spooky main event! Creators may choose any 31 of the total 93 prompts listed to complete this event.

For an extra personal challenge, you may limit yourself to only posting a fanwork inspired by one of the prompts listed by the number that corresponds to each day of October for every day of the month all month long, but it’s absolutely not required for completion of this event. We want you to succeed and create, and to share new Darcy works, so our goal is always to support you in your fannish creative endeavors and make that as easy as possible.

Promptober 2024 Guidelines

Promptober fills must prominently feature our beloved Lady of Astrophysics, Dr. Darcy Lewis!

Promptober creators have all of our 2024-2025 round to work on this event! If you want to work on it the whole year until we release the next spooky season event, we encourage you to do that. If spooky challenges are particularly your jam, we’d love to see what you do with ours when you’ve got the whole year to tackle it!

entries—Your fanwork is NOT required to use the prompt exactly as it appears on this list. Prompts need only inspire your fanwork, whether they appear word for word in it or not. However the prompt inspires you is correct, as far as we’re concerned. Subvert the prompt, reverse the prompt, marry the prompt—it’s up to you.

All forms of fannish works are accepted and encouraged for this event! Fanfic, fanart, poetry, podfics, fanvids, playlists, fiber and other crafts, fan edits, moodboards, etc.

You may start posting your Promptober fanworks as soon as they’re ready to share. No need to wait until October and no need to rush to get them all done in that month, either.

Fanwork Fill Requirements

100 words for written works or word art, with the exception of poetry with independent formatting rules (such as haikus).

1 image for artwork or handcrafts of any kind and a description for the visually impaired of the medium used and what it represents.

1 image for cosplay or character-bounding and a description for the visually impaired of cosplay or clothing and any other fashion influences incorporated into the costume or clothing (be descriptive! talk about fabrics and colors, tone and texture! describe the emotions the colors you used evoke in you as the creator!)

9 elements for moodboards (background, images, texts, ephemera) and a description for the visually impaired of the moodboard and what it represents.

6 images for social media AUs and a description for the visually impaired of the creation and what it represents.

10 songs for playlists and a text list of artists and songs to give credit to the original artists, plus a description for the visually impaired of what the playlist represents and how it relates to Darcy.

Bucky turns around in his bed, throwing his head from one side to the other. His breathing is heavy, and when a sudden scream leaves his lips, he immediately wakes up. Tears are burning in his eyes, slowly falling down his cheeks, his chest raising and falling fast, and his muscles tensing while he looks around. Sweat is covering his body, and he sits up, listening to the sound of his dog tags touching one another. A sound that calms him down slowly. He rarely has a night where he isn’t waking up himself, screaming, and crying because of another nightmare. Bucky’s hand slides to the side, touching the cool floor, and he sighs softly. He knows he is at home; he is at the Avengers compound. A soft knock on his door, and the door opens quietly. Bucky’s gaze snaps towards the door.

“Bucky? You’re fine?” Natasha asks, looking through the now-open door of his room.

His eyes are still red, and trails of tears cover his face, but he nods softly. Bucky inhales deeply, sliding his fingers through his hair. He tries to smile at her to ensure he is oke but Natasha walks into the room, claiming the door then and walking closer to the soldier. She smiles, encouraging him, knowing Bucky is embarrassed of himself for screaming and crying in his sleep once again. She lets herself take a seat next to him on the ground; her hand makes its way to his bare back, and she draws small circles on it.

When she did that the first time after Bucky saw Steve on the bridge a while ago and him not recognizing Bucky, she sat next to him as well, waiting until Bucky told her about the nightmares he has, and he said sorry a lot. He felt bad for waking her up because he had a nightmare. Natasha made sure that she did it because they are friends and because she knew it’s not easy to see someone he knows so well, someone he loves, who acted like he didn’t know Bucky anymore. The sweat never stopped her from touching him because she knows he needs it; he needs someone who is there and someone he can be closer to so he won’t feel alone anymore. And since then, she often spends the night with Bucky; they talk, sometimes she just helps him to calm down, and then they both sleep. They are friends, good friends, and even though they are so close, both of them have no other feelings than best friends have for each other.

“We will find Steve, and he will remember. Do you wanna have some hot chocolate too?” She asks, knowing that Bucky loves them just as much as she does.

“With whipped cream and marshmallows,” Bucky says, chucking softly. “Let me take a shower first.”

Bucky got up from the floor, reaching for Nat’s hand and pulling her up as well. He then takes some clothes, walking toward the bathroom while Natasha walks to the door, which leads into the floor. She just opens it, facing Bucky and smirking playfully.

Don’t take too long, old man. Otherwise, the chocolate will be cold.”

Bucky rolls his eyes and walks into the bathroom, hearing Natasha laughing. Then he takes off his boxers and gets into the shower. The hot water relaxes his tensing muscles; the scent of the shampoo he uses makes him sigh softly; and he enjoys the hot water running down his body. He washes the sweat off his body, letting the hot water fall down on his body a while longer before he gets out of the shower and drys himself. Bucky rubs his long brown hair dry and then wraps the towel around his waist. He always feels better when he has a nice, hot shower. After doing everything in the bathroom, including taking on his fresh clothes, he makes his way out of his room and into the kitchen, where Natasha is already waiting for him. He inhales the sweet scent of the hot chocolate and the marshmallows in the room, smiling softly.

“Smells delicious as always when you make that hot chocolate.”

When Bucky reaches his best friend, she hands him a cup of hot chocolate, topped with whipped cream and marshmallows. Then they both walk to the couch, letting themselves fall down on it and making it comfortable. Bucky hums when he tastes the chocolate, causing Natasha to laugh.

“Do you want to tell me more about you and Steve from the 40’s?” She asks softly, so he doesn’t have the feeling that she puts him under pressure.

Bucky thinks for a moment; she already knows a bit about them both, but there are some more things he hasn’t told her yet. There are some funny things he really wants to tell her. So he does exactly that, with a smirk he licks with his tongue over his lips.

“There was the event; it was supposed to show things that will be created in the future. Even though the flying cars aren’t working yet. But before we went there, Steve was in the cinema, and I think he loved to get punched. He told the boy, who was stronger and taller than Steve, to be quiet because he wanted to watch the movie. They went outside into the alley next to the cinema. You should have seen little Steve lifting his fists and jumping up and down in front of the guy who was almost two Steve’s big,” Bucky says, laughing when he remembers the small Steve jumping up and down to punch the boy in front of him. “And then the guy punched him, and Steve got up and told him he could do that all day. But the way he jumped up and down like a bouncing ball was really cute.”

Natasha laughs so hard that she almost spills her chocolate on Bucky. Bucky takes a sip of his chocolate before he has another funny story in mind, which he tells her.

“During that show, Steve went to something like a museum. There was a picture of a soldier, and when you were standing in front of it, you saw your face as that of the soldier. But Steve was too small, so he wasn’t able to see his face there. It was pretty cute. Later, we went to war, and the people always said ‘schoolyard and battlefield, and we were always there together. First with sticks, then with uniforms.’”

They both chuckle softly, and after a while and a few more stories of Steve and Bucky, Sam walks with Fury into the room.

“Steve, you know me. You know me your whole life,” Buck says, looking at his best friend.

“I don’t know you.”

The cold eyes and the coldness in his voice lets Bucky shiver. Steve still looks confused at Bucky, but at the same time, he looks like he remembers his best friend. The man he used to love in their 40’s, the man who protected him until Steve got imprisoned by Hydra after he turned into “Captain America” which turned out to be an experiment Hydra did. He wasn’t Captain America; they just told him, so they got him into the ‘Winter Soldier program’. But since Bucky said his name and he kind of remembered the other man, he is even more confused. Who is he? Where is the other man?

“Your name is Steven Grant Rogers,” Bucky says.

“Shut up!” Steve shouts, overwhelmed by his emotions.

The brown-haired man looks so familiar, but as much as Steve tries, he doesn’t get the things together to get to know where he knows the other man. He told the Agents of Hydra that there was a man on the bridge, someone he knew. But the agents didn't pay attention; they brainwashed him to make sure he did his job and didn't get distracted during his missions. Steve’s eyes slide from Bucky to his shield and back at Bucky, then he punches him, and the brown-haired man staggers back but gets his balance back and looks at Steve.

“I’m not gonna fight you. You’re my friend,” Bucky explains, letting the weapon he holds in his hand fall down.

'Actually, you’re more than a friend to me,’ he thinks, but doesn’t say that just yet. His breathing is heavy, and the sweat is running down his skin. Steve is breathing just as heavily as Bucky, his jaw clenched, and he holds his shield tightly in his hand, pressed against his body. The moment the weapon falls through a hole in the helicarrier, Steve walks closer to Bucky, throwing his shield in the direction of his best friend and hitting him. Bucky walks a few steps backwards before he falls down, and Steve uses the moment to throw himself on top of him.

“You’re my mission.”

Steve’s fist meets Bucky’s face harshly, blood flowing out of his nose, but he doesn’t do anything to get his best friend off of him. He knows Steve doesn’t remember him; he knows that Steve is brainwashed.

The helicarrier around them slowly breaks into pieces. Steve is still on top of Bucky, punching his best friend over and over again.

“You. -punch- Are. -punch- My. -punch- Mission.”

Steve breathes heavily; his chest is falling and raising fast, while he looks down and into the ocean-blue eyes of his best friend.

“Then finish it, ‘cause I’m with you ‘til the end of the line,” Bucky says, waiting for Steve to punch him once again, but he doesn’t.

Steve’s eyes widen, and he remembers the man in front of you. The moment he said that sentence to Bucky when they were together in the Hydra base.

“Get out of here.”

"No, not without you- because I’m with you til the end of the line,” Steve shouts back.

The hand of Steve falls down; he is just about to get off of Bucky. Suddenly it cracks next to them, and in the next moment Bucky falls down, landing just a few moments later in the river.

“Bucky,” Steve mumbles.

Without hesitation, Steve jumps after Bucky, catching him and swimming with him in his tight grip out of the river. Bucky’s eyes are closed, and he seems unconscious. Steve lets himself fall down next to his best friend, his fingers running through his soft hair, while he admires the beauty of the brown-haired man.

“Buck,” he mumbles, lifting the head and shoulders of his friend off the ground and placing Bucky on his lap. “My Bucky.”

Slowly, the man wakes up, feeling warm but with wet legs underneath his body. He opens his eyes just a bit, seeing his best friend through his lashes.

“S-Steve?”

“Bucky, hey. Buck, it’s me. H-how are you?”

Bucky chuckles, looking at Steve and lifting his hand to caress Steve’s check.

“I’m good. I-i missed you. I never thought I’d see you again. But you’re here. Please don’t leave again, Stevie. I-I love you.”

“I won’t, Buck. I’m here, and I love you too. Do you want to be mine?” Steve mumbles, and Bucky nods euphorically.

He leans down until their lips meet; the kiss is soft, and they both move their lips carefully but with so much passion against each other. Bucky smirks softly, his hand sliding through the blond hair of Steve. And suddenly Steve’s feelings and memories are back; he knows all he ever felt for his best friend and all he still feels for him.

“But Bucky, they will look after me.”

“I will protect you, Stevie.”

“And we’re there for you too,” Natasha says behind them, smirking at Bucky, who has red cheeks and looks at his best friend.

Steve lets Bucky sit up. The brown-haired man leans closer and kisses Steve once again before they both get up.

“Let’s get some food first; I’m starving.”

“You’re always hungry, birdy,” Natasha and Bucky say at the same time.

Steve chuckles, wrapping his arm around his now-boyfriend’s waist and pulling him closer.

It was a rainy afternoon in Brooklyn, and you were in your office when the door suddenly opened.

You looked at the door and saw Steve walking in, wearing his leather jacket. Sometimes you thought it was funny how he tried to behave, but you knew the truth.

“Good afternoon, Steve," you said. "Can I help you with something?"

Steve approached you, and you pretended to be dumbfounded by his presence.

“Yes, I'm looking for a book about... Well..." Steve turned to look at your desk. "This book," he said, putting his hand on the book on your desk.

You knew Steve wasn't interested in the book; he just wanted to talk to you.

“Really?

Steve took the book and leafed through it, though it was obvious that his mind was elsewhere.

“You know? “he began in a softer tone. Actually, I came here because I needed a break from everything. I've always found this place... comforting."

“I'm glad to hear that, Steve."

You sat down in one of the nearby chairs, inviting him to do the same.

Steve sat down next to you, setting the book aside.

“Everyone expects me to always be strong and the leader. But there are times when I just want to be... normal," he confessed.

You nodded, understanding his feelings perfectly.

“We all need a space where we can be ourselves without expectations or pressure. Here, you can be Steve; I'll always be here to listen to you."

“Thank you."

The rain started to fall, so you continued to talk.

Oooh picking favourite fics is so hard! I decided to leave out any collabs because I couldn't pick, so in no particular order:

A Pair of Aces

“There’s no one else I can ask. Please.”

It’s the please that has stuck in Tony’s mind, long after the phone call with Steve had ended.

“I know what HYDRA made him do. But it wasn’t his fault. He doesn’t deserve this.” ----------------------------------- When Ross captures Steve and Bucky after the fight in Siberia, Bucky is sold to Selby in Madripoor, with Tony, Sharon and a high-stakes poker game as his only hope of rescue.

Why I like this fic: It's still new so it still has 'new fic' shine to it before I re-read it and find all its flaws. Civil War Fix-Itss my beloved.

2. The One Where Clint is Tony's Weakness

“Do you know who I am?”

Clint twisted Stone’s arm back further, making him yelp in pain. “I know exactly who you are, Stone. And this is me passing on a friendly message from all of us at Avengers Tower—leave Tony alone." -------------------------------------- When Steve, Natasha, and Sam's mission to take down HYDRA fails, it's up to Tony and Clint to escape their respective captors and rescue their friends.

Why I like this fic: I give myself kudos for how intricate the plot of this one turned out and a couple of very creative whump scenes. No, I have not forgotten about the sequel. It will appear one day.

3. Budapest

Whoever they were, they were getting better. Every round of the simulation they learned a little more, took a little more, built up the world around him into something he might just believe. But they couldn’t do it all. They always got at least one detail wrong, and then Clint would know, he’d know. And then the assholes would wipe his mind and start again from scratch. -------------------------------------- Turns out it's difficult to derail a hostage situation when it's a friend doing the hostage-taking.

Why I like this fic: I love how mind-bendy this one is, it's one of the more complicated plots I've had to do and work with, and it has a happy ending.

4. Dollhouse

The torture bingo card.

It was an old joke that had been passed around the SHIELD agents with a darker sense of humor. Phil had disapproved. Fury had pretended not to know. Clint had joined in right away, only to find he had been able to fill out half the squares before the game had even begun, courtesy of a life of bad cards, poor decisions, and worse luck.

No one was ever supposed to win. -------------------------------------- The Barton family gets an uninvited guest, and it has no intention of leaving.

Why I like this fic: Spookiest thing I've ever written and it manages to include so many character.

5. Let's Whump the Spider-Kid and Friends!

Thanos is defeated, the world is saved, and all the Avengers are set to live happily ever after in their Tower. If only their team didn't include a danger magnet in the form of Peter Parker.

31 days, 31 ways to hurt our favorite Spider-Kid, with bonus whumping of his super friends and excessive use of puns.

Why I like this fic: I know it's kind of cheating to include a one-shot collection but this does work as a multi-chapter fic as well. For all the angst and whump and such, it's nice to flex the comedy muscles too and go for something a bit more light-hearted and fun.

It is not an April Fools Joke! With a new month upon us, we’ve got a new set of Challenges and Adoptables! If you haven’t signed up to participate in Stucky Bingo Round 5, it is not too late! Fill out this form to get your own shiny card.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with the Monthly Challenges, here are the rules:

At the beginning of each month during the round, we will put out three (3) prompts. You can use one, two, or all three prompts along with a square from your bingo card, and you will earn a badge created for the theme!

I’m juggling 20 active/semi-active WIPs with my current deadline being the Steve Rogers Bingo which ends on July 15th and the July Break Bingo, which runs for the month of July.

Fluffy Steve Fest 2024 [FSF_24] (runs 1-7 Jul 2024)

I got a late start on this great event from @fluffystevefest but still managed to fill six of the seven days before the event ended, posting all but one on the day of the prompt. I’m in the process of posting these to Ao3 and will share a masterlist once this is complete.

* JULY 1: AFFECTION: Touch-Starved + Kisses - I combined these with my JBB O3 - "We should take things slow." square for An Oasis in the Desert. Steve's POV on reuniting with Bucky post CA:WS. It came in at 140 words.

* JULY 3: ERAS: Soldier + Icon - I combined this with my SRB D4 - Steve and the Stealth Suit for a 100-word drabble/moodboard combo (Not A) Perfect Soldier . I posted this self-reflective Steve POV drabble to Ao3 this morning.

* JULY 4: BIRTHDAY - Wishes + Party - Combined this with my SRB July Adoptable: "Happy Birthday, Steve!" and JBB N5 - Found Family squares for A Vital Mission. Natasha hijacks Steve for an ‘urgent Avengers matter’ and birthday fluff ensues. Originally posted to Tumblr and then tweaked and posted to Ao3 this morning, it came in at 388 words.

* JULY 5: BEDROOM Discreet Packaging + Aphrodisiac - wrote A Plain Brown Envelope - a pre-war Stucky established relationship ficlet with implied sexual content. It came in at 166 words and will get posted to Ao3 next week.

* JULY 6: CLOTHES: Leather jacket + Someone else’s Combined this prompt with my JBB I1 - "You can't do anything" square for Hell Bent for Leather. This established Stony ficlet featuring Tony teasing Steve via texts came in at 225 words and will get posted to Ao3 next week.

* JULY 7: STEVE'S ... : Habits + First times + Happy ending. Combined this prompt with my JBB B4 - Flashback square and BaBB July: Anxiety prompt for Coming Around Again. This post CA:WS Steve & Bucky reunion featuring a flashback to a hot evening in their pre-war apartment came in at 572 words and will get posted to Ao3 next week.

Steve Rogers Bingo - Round 3 [SRB_R3] (ends 15 Jul 2024)

Twenty-six fills (two adoptables) and one WIPs at the moment - gonna try to fill that last square for a natural blackout!

* B5 - Magic Steve - combined this with last week’s Flash Fiction Friday prompt [#FFF260 Fear is a Sickness ] for Fighting Fire with Fire - a Fantasy AU with apprentice spellcasters Steve & Bucky. It came in at 216 words and will get posted to Ao3 before the event is over.

* C5 - Exes to Lovers - Working on a fic that will also fill the BaBB May prompt: Wrong Number. It’s sitting at 225 words - we’ll see if I can get it done in time.

July Break Bingo [JBB_24] (runs 1-31 Jul)

@julybreakbingo is a fantastic any-fandom bingo event designed to spark creativity during the month of July! I’m combining squares with Hot Bucky Summer prompts and my Bucky Barnes Bingo card, as well as a few with the Fluffy Steve Fest and Steve Rogers Bingo - check those sections for details! More fun from the @buckybarnesevents folks - this time weekly challenges to create (usually NSFW) Bucky-centric fanworks! Thanks to the July Break Bingo (see above) and Bucky Barrnes Bingo - I now have ideas/mini-outlines for each week of July.

* Week 5 June 29th - July 5th: “We’re...” + Friends with Benefits Added second chapter to Coming Clean on Friday. This is a WinterIron PWP with Steve joining in for some Stucky sexytimes. This chapter is from his POV and combines a bunch of prompts: BaBB June: Bratting and July: Friends with Benefits , BBB Y5 - Polyamory or open relationship and JBB - B1 - "I made a mistake." + O1 - Emotional and came in at a hefty 1017 words.

* Week 6 July 6th - July 12th - “I won’t be able to stop myself.” + Gone Feral Shifting ships here with a WinterHawk fic - Alpha!Bucky is worried about going into rut after what Hydra did to him; omega! Clint comes up with a satisfying solution. (FYI- the smut is fade to black). Riding Out His Rut is drafted at 1544 words and crosses over with BBB: Y4 - Cursed! & JBB: B2 - "I'm what's wrong." + G1 - Aggressive + G3 + Alt4 - Love as being present. It will post on the 12th.

* Week 7 July 13th - July 19th - “Put this on for me.” + Blindfolds + Collars

Going back to WinterIron for this - Tony trying to hide the results of a D/s scene gone; Bucky steps in to help. Crossing over with: JBB O5 - "Where did you get this?" + Alt1 - None of us want to be fully revealed. All our faults and weaknesses laid bare for the world. + Alt5 - Love as patience. All Our Faults Laid Bare is currently sitting at 810 words & am planning to post on the 19th.

Pairing Husband!Steve Rogers x Husband!Avenger!Bucky Barnes

Word count 1.4K

Summary Bucky has been stressed from his missions lately, so Steve surprises him with a romantic night at home. Just the two of them and a candle-lit dinner, a massage, and some soft music. That's all Bucky could ever want, and he's very thankful to have someone as sweet and caring as Steve as his husband.

Warning(s) Bucky is a stressed boy, Steve is the best husband.

The last few months have been increasingly more stressful for Bucky during and after missions because there has been an enormous rise in HYDRA bases and agents recruited to work at said bases.

Steve has also noticed this, so he treats his husband to a relaxing, romantic night at home. Just the two of them with a candlelit dinner, a massage, and some soft music. Nothing over the top, but pure perfection all the same.

He had just returned home from the store, where he bought the last things he needed to make tonight special. Everything is complete, from a few ingredients for the pasta to a peppermint-scented massage oil, a big bouquet, and a scented candle.

The flowers are just popped into a vase when Steve picks up on the door's lock, notifying him that Bucky is home, and he looks more stressed than ever. He picked out an excellent day to plan all this.

''Hi,'' Steve says softly as he greets Bucky, who just toed off his boots in the hallway. He's about to shrug off his jacket when Steve pulls him in for a hug, which Bucky happily melts into, but not without a deep sigh.

They hold each other tightly, and Bucky is not ready to let Steve go. Not that Steve minds, of course. He'll happily hold his husband for as long as necessary.

''What's for dinner today?'' Bucky asks as he pulls away from the embrace, a small smile now adorning his face. Being with Steve, his best friend and husband, is guaranteed to make him feel better.

''Your favorite. Decided to treat my perfect husband because he deserves it,'' Steve tells him, making Bucky blush. Even after all their time together, he finds it challenging to accept Steve's compliments.

'''M not perfect,'' Bucky tells him with a slight pout.

''You're perfect in my eyes,'' Steve answers without missing a beat, and he leans in to capture Bucky's lips in another kiss. It turns a tad more heated this time, but it doesn't last long.

Steve's attention is pulled back to the dinner he was preparing by the little kitchen timer going off, and he reluctantly pulled away from Bucky and jogged to the kitchen.

''How about this: you shower and get dressed into something more comfortable, and I'll finish dinner? After that, we'll have the entire evening to ourselves,'' he says, and Bucky happily agrees.

The pasta sauce is ready at the same time as Bucky is after his shower, and he's put on some tight black sweatpants and a dark blue henley, which shows off his muscles to perfection.

His hair is still damp from the shower, but Steve can tell he's feeling better without Bucky saying it. His cheeks have a healthy red tint, and his posture is much more relaxed. But this would only be the beginning of their evening.

''Looks good,'' Bucky says as he stands behind Steve, pressing his chest against his husband's back. His head was lying on his shoulder as he closed his eyes, needing to be close to him for now.

''You're not bad-looking yourself, either,'' Steve responds, with a slight chuckle.

''Yeah, that's my cue to set the table!'' Bucky quips back, and everything feels good. Between the joking and lingering touches to the soft kisses and exchanged glances, everything feels like it should.

The pasta is gone within no time, despite Steve making an extra large batch, but after that, the two of them are filled to the brim with food, so it's time to relax.

''Shall we move this party of two to the couch for a movie?'' Bucky offers, but Steve has a different plan. He didn't buy the new massage oil for nothing, after all.

Bucky has gotten up and is clearing the table, but Steve is crowding his space and pushing him against the counter when he gets up from filling the dishwasher.

Bucky's breath hitches slightly as he sees the grin on Steve's face, his husband's eyes flicking from his own down to his lips and back up.

''I had a different plan for this evening. And for that, we should move this party to the bedroom,'' he tells Bucky, who's so wholly and utterly flustered that all that falling past his lips is a soft moan.

Steve's lips attach to the sensitive spot in Bucky's neck, and his hands are gliding through his long, dark brown locks while Bucky is fisting the back of Steve's shirt tightly.

Steve trails a row of small, soft kisses to his ear before whispering something in it, leaving Bucky with goosebumps.

''I want you on the bed without your shirt on. I'll join you in a few minutes.''

With those words, Bucky is off to the bedroom; his shirt already pulled off in the hallway out of sheer anticipation. Steve can make him feel excellent, and he can't wait for what's coming. And he hopes it'll be him soon.

Steve takes his sweet time preparing the massage he has planned because he picks out a record to go into the record player in their bedroom before taking off his shirt and seeing if Bucky did what he asked.

It doesn't surprise him when he finds Bucky patiently waiting on the bed on his knees, his hair up in a half bun, and his hands folded in his lap.

''Good boy,'' Steve tells him as he walks into the room, and Bucky has done precisely as Steve asked. Bucky flushes under the praise he gets, still not used to it but reveling in it all the same.

''Before I go any further, I want to tell you what we're about to do so you can decide if you want to keep your arm on or if you want it off, okay?'' Steve asks as he puts the record in the player and lets it start, soft jazz music filling the air.

''Yes.''

''Alright, my sweet boy. Once I have explained everything and given you the go-ahead, I want you to lie on your stomach on the bed, and you can get as comfortable as you possibly can. When you're ready, I am going to give you a relaxing massage to loosen up the tense muscles in your back, and if you're an extra good boy, I'll even let you have some fun afterward,'' Steve tells him as he stands before Bucky, who's focused on every word his husband tells him.

''Am I clear?'' Steve asks, needing to hear him physically say it.

''Yes. For the massage, I'd like to take my arm off, but after, I'd like to put it back on if that's okay,'' Bucky says softly, and Steve nods.

''Of course,'' he tells him before leaning in and cupping Bucky's cheek, rubbing his cheek with his thumb. He tilts his head slightly to kiss his lips softly before letting Bucky know he can lie down.

The arm is quickly removed and put away carefully to avoid damage. Bucky always feels odd without his arm, but taking a break from wearing it is nice because it always throws off his center of gravity when it's attached.

''Are you comfortable?'' Steve asks, and when Bucky lets out a content hum, Steve grabs the peppermint massage oil and drips some on Bucky's back before spreading it around.

As he massages Bucky's back from top to bottom with thorough strokes, he tells him everything he likes about him and the fondest memories they have made together.

During the massage, he pays special attention to the shoulder with the prosthetic because that always bothers him a lot. Despite the initial pain, Bucky gets through it because he knows it'll be worth it in the end, as he will feel much better.

''I love you so much, you know that? More than I'll ever be able to explain,'' Steve says as he trails a few kisses from Bucky's neck down his spine and back up again before planting a big one on his cheek.

''You've been such a good boy for me; I think you deserve your reward now,'' Steve says, but Bucky lets out a content hum.

''Is okay, just want to cuddle,'' he says, and Steve would be stupid to say no. The music still plays in the background as he lays on the bed, pulling Bucky into his side.

He's lying on Steve's right side, so his arm will be over Steve's chest, and Steve plays with Bucky's hair as they both fall asleep like that. In each other's embraces, with not a single care in the world right now.

Bucky couldn't possibly be more thankful to be married to his best friend than he is now.
