Second 4th anniversary gacha is out for JP Ayakashi

It’s a somewhat modified flair of their battle outfits. I can’t say if it’s “modernized” per se, but it was designed to look more like suits and shirts rather than kimono. 

Meanwhile, Tatsu and Aizen, who are already wearing “suits” (their uniforms), has their outfits designed to look more kimono-like.

Some thoughts on Ayakoi App

Since I'm replaying Ayakoi so I get to post my overall thoughts on the common routes, each faction and their respective characters, I also wanted to talk about how I felt overall about the game, more specifically the app since the Switch version is just a visual novel without the gacha mechanics.

Overall I think that Ayakoi is a good game. Not perfect, mind you but a good game. I do enjoy the setting of it taking place in the Meiji era along with the use of Ayakashi and reincarnation. And I do like the characters, even the ones who I consider to be just fine. More than that, I liked how each faction tells a different story and how tied each character is to said faction. And not to mention the main theme of the game is the bonds between people, whether they be romantic, familial, or platonic. And it's just a chill game you can play. So yeah, I think it's a good game. But it's not without its issues.

I think my main takeaway issue would have to be that the game works better as a regular visual novel, not a gacha. Because you can't rely that much on a gacha game that has a short shelf life, especially if it's not making money, which is the case for Ayakoi for the JP server and especially the EN server which stopped any and all updates. The way I see it, Ayakoi really is just a chill, comfy type of game that has a decent amount of plot and character development. The more I'm playing the Switch version, the more I appreciate the fact I can just sit back and enjoy the story without the hassle of getting SSR cards and the amount of grinding and materials I needed. I know that Event stories and both SR and SSR cards have stories that help further the character's development, add in more backstory, and I do like that added detail to the overall arching storyline. Personally for me I never worried whether I got a character's card or not in the gacha banner because I knew I wouldn't be missing out on much as compared to the Main and Event stories. (Unless it's Oji, then I'm gonna collect every one of his cards). So when I look at the game as a whole, I don't see any reason why it should be a gacha when I can easily see it as another type of Love 365 game where you buy a main and side stories with coins.

Now, with Ayakoi running on a live server, it's going to inevitably get hit by an EOS announcement or like with the EN server, stop updating entirely. It's not a matter of if it'll happen but when. And seeing that Voltage's apps don't seem to be doing all that well financially, I'm not sure when Ayakoi will stop updating or get shut down. And if it does shut down entirely, all the stories will be gone, which is why I hope one day Voltage will release all story content as DLC to the Switch or release Ayakoi on Steam. We get the Night faction story, Event stories, and the sequel stories as DLC. I mentioned in a previous post that at the rate Koga's Sequel story has been released (Half of it was released and years later they're releasing the other half), I do not see the other guys getting their sequel stories before the game stops updating or shuts down. There are so many unanswered questions and loose threads for each of the character's storyline (especially for Yura and the Night faction) that we'll probably never get the answers if the game shuts down. Which is why I hope people archive this kind of stuff before it gets lots in the ether.

I still think Ayakoi overall is a good game for what it is. I hope one day Voltage will just release everything as DLC for the Switch or a Steam release. I would gladly pay for it just to preserve it. I very much adore this game.

went from not reading or touching anything in months to getting sick and binge reading like 3 routes so uuuhh this feels surreal as all hell rn

finished yukimura's sequel (finally), and mozart's route, and now im binging the rest of luke's ...... crazy brah. also uuuuuhhhhhh....... i did not ever expect to end up liking mozart but now im glad i yolo did his route bc..... wow?? tho the last minute drama with the historical bs was so fucking unnecessary lmaaooo gdi ikevamp,, ...fr sometimes i think ikevamp shoulda just stuck to the drama/conflict being interpersonal instead of all the vlad/will shit cause it usually feels so tacked on in there :,)

can't tell if it was just the sick days and being bored as all hell having to cancel plans getting to me, or just the ayakoi influence, or craving hint of social interaction but like.... damn now im just sitting here itching and twitching and wanting to read a bunch again dkdkfkf (i had a huge stash of unused story tickets apparently.. and now im just mad that there's no collection event ongoing bc this would've come in SO clutch bruh i had like 50-100 of those fuckers in every game but ikerev 😭) .....so anyway, just decided to take advantage of finally having the time to read and nothing much to do. really hyped for rio's route but i do kinda wanna read the ikepri ones in order so like... still missing clavis AND sariel too fuucckk :,) this is what i get for missing out on sm.. let alone getting around to second endings?? unheard of 🥲

I pulled yesterday on the “Aisle of Dreams” Banner. I want that Kuro SSR but look who came home instead  (￣ω￣;)

It’s GAKU. I won’t say no to random Gaku SSR but- (◔ д◔)

All this time I’ve been calling Kuro a clown -- he’s one of the hardest to get from gacha out of my stans but then Gaku is also a clown in gacha 🤡

So I headcanon that Gaku is number one clown out of my 5 stans. Kuro idolizes Gaku so it makes sense that Kuro is a clown too. Both of them are clowns(≖_≖ ) Kuro is Gaku’s disciple in clownery.

But I still love them. Ofc, I still love Gaku even if he’s like that.  🤡

Thoughts on: Yura

I'll be honest, Yura didn't leave much of an impresson on me when Ayakoi was first announced and all the characters were introduced. His design wasn't bad but I wasn't really all that interested in him. Of course, I didn't let that stop me from playing his route a few years back and was impressed by it. Now years later after replaying it, I found myself liking him and his story more. Not to say that Yura is an all time favorite but I think his storyline is one of the strongest of the Dawn faction.

*This review will contain spoilers, you have been warned*

To me, I think that Yura's story, along with Kuya's and Aoi's, are the most character driven plotlines of the faction. Maybe even the whole game. During the first half of his route, I got a really good look at what Yura's beliefs are along with this thought process. Given that he took on Gaku's curse and killed lots of animals over the thousand years he's been alive, you get to see a side of Yura that shows just how vulnerable he is even though he insists that it doesn't bother him.

From the way he acts, he comes off as a person who doesn't really put much value in his happiness. To him, so long as Gaku is OK, that's all that matters to him despite having to take on a inhumane curse. We see as the story goes on just how complacent he is with his current life and despite that, he really just wants to be rid of this suffering not just for him but for Gaku. I loved how multi-faceted he is. He more than a guy who has an unhealthy obsession with sweets, he's more than just his curse. He's Yura. A guy who only wants others to be happy at the expense of his own happiness.

This is where Futaba comes in and I think she does a great job at not only being a constant support system to Yura but also snapping him out of his despair. She isn't going to allow Yuta to devalue his life for the sake of others. I think this is one of her best moments because she she goes way above and beyond what any person would do and she puts her whole heart and emotions into doing it.

And finally, there's Doman. He is the main villain of Yura's story and I think that compared to every other villain/antagonist, Doman is the most heinous and devious one. He is the one who placed the curse all those years ago and just absolutely enjoys seeing the pain and anguish he caused for the twins. This guy is evil through and through... AND I LOVE HIM! This is the kind of villain I can love to hate. I really wish Voltage would prioritize their focus on the main story instead of the gacha so we could get Yura's sequel story and see more of Doman.

There were only two things I wasn't a fan of.

The first being was how he spoke. And I get it, the dude is literally 1,000 years old, so it makes sense why he would speak the way he does. But I didn't enjoy having to re-read several of his lines just to understand what he was saying. It didn't take away from the enjoyment I had but I could do without him speaking like he's reciting a play from Shakespeare.

The second would have to be with how Akiyasu's plotline was just done with. To me, it did suffer the same gripes I had with Ginnojo's story in that we have basically two plots happening at the same time. I was more invested in Yura's plotline than I was with Aki's but given that I have read the other character's stories from the Dawn faction, I knew how it would end but I didn't expect it to just end so abruptly and for Yura's to completely take over. It wasn't as bad as Ginnojo's but I'm left wondering how it would've all fit in the sequel story with Aki and Doman being the antagonists.

Those are my thoughts on Yura. His story had suffering and hope all mixed together creating a somber and yet hopeful story.

And with that, I am done with all the Dawn faction characters. I'll be posting a full review on the Dawn faction as a whole soon.
