Still rewatching Code Lyoko, I'm on episode 19 now!

Some things I'm remembering or just realizing that I wanted to share:

Yumi had a little brother right? I've yet to see him shown or mentioned. Suspicious.

The returns to the past make XANA more powerful (but they don't know that yet) and they actually had a few they didn't need to time travel for in my opinion so they just enjoy the benefits of time traveling and gaining a days worth of future knowledge right? Makes that episode I remember of them getting mad at Ulrich for using it to win the lottery to help Yumi's family even weirder to me. Part of the reason they got upset was that it was "cheating" even tho no one supposedly won if Ulrich didn't do that....but knowing the answers to an exam, pop quiz, homework, getting one over on another person they wouldn't have been able to before, etc. they don't blink an eye at that kind of more apparent cheating. But winning cash money was a problem?

Could just be Dumb Kid Syndrome 🙄

That girl, Taelia/Talia, Jeremie was convinced was Aelita with amnesia was a missed opportunity for later episodes when Aelita does appear. How interesting would it have been if this snarky lookalike and apparent orphan started drama because she wanted to believe she and Aelita were related, likely twins, due to similar appearances and coloring. But instead she's never seen or heard from again after her 1st appearance. Why? It's not like she left after a day. And Wiki fandom says she's never spotted or mentioned again.

Theo the new guy gets reappearances but is never important. And Odd had to uselessly ruin Sissi's chance at happiness with notUlrich who was just as cute just because he wanted to avoid Theo and Herb having a rivalry over Sissi? Ridiculous. He doesn't actually give a shit about Herb and he could easily find a different way to help Theo if he really didn't want to stay up late to scare Herb away from tattling to Jim again.

It's a shame he never regains interest in Sissi after that from what we're shown thanks to Odd. Theo/Sissi could've been so cute! And got Sissi to stop obsessing on Ulrich.

Jeremie...is wrong alot for being the group Einstein. He also might lowkey be a sociopath or something the way that the wellbeing of others, friends included, seems to always be secondary to his obsession over Aelita.

The background characters be looking like they up to interesting things sometimes.

Rewatching shows can be so fun. Like Code Lyoko!

Very 1st episode of season 1 and Sissi just...awoke and chose violence for real. Like I remembered the scene but it's just...😂 I know Sissi could be bitchy, she was typical arrogant mean girl for awhile...but they had her very 1st scene and appearance be her just straight up going ham on that one red headed little girl reporter for the school.

FOR NO REASON.

She really said her name is now Sissi the Bitchy McBitchenstein Esquire the 3rd. 🤣

She didn't have to make that little girl cry. But she did. She didn't have to insult her 25 times in a single conversation. But she wanted too.

She wasn't sorry about it either. And she'd do it again.

Sissi was straight up wildin right out the gate on this show.

Code Lyoko Fantasy AU: XANA

A being of pure dark magic.

He doesn’t know how he was made, and he doesn’t know what his purpose is. When he saw how the world was, wars were fought over petty social human constructs—religion, money, status—it was all so…pointless.

If everything were under his rule, then it would make sense, and there would no longer be war; everything would be unified under him. He was annoyed when they fought back, so he gave them a solution, and since they would not do so willingly, he would take it by force.

With the monsters he can make and the magic he wields, he will succeed, no matter who tries to stand in his way.

Okay, we all know that sometimes Code Lyoko's animation isn't always the best. There are plenty of re-used animations, dub errors, inconsistencies, re-used animations that are inconsistent within the context of the scene/character/clothing etc.

But sometimes - actually plenty of times really - that there are so many amazing little details that don't always get noticed.

For instance, in Season 2 Episode 13 / Episode 39: A Bad Turn....Do you know how long it took me to realize that Yumi is literally full body trembling in this scene, when she thinks that Krabe is actually going to blast her in the skull? There really was no reason the animators had to do this. Her covering her head, eyes clenched tightly gave away the fear as it was.

But they literally animated her shaking from fear.

Sure it's fun to make fun of the goofy foreheads or the recycled animation but sometimes the animation style is absolutely awesome!

(And don't get me started on the amazing backgrounds through the entire series!)

Ok chat, call me funny, but i am planning to sneak in Aven and Edda the starfolk lads as a background characters in my smaller Code Lyoko fic, but here is the thing, i don't have any Last Names idea for them (Context, they will mostly be called by their last names, unless their full name is mentioned) soooooo, go hammy

this morning my dreams included a conversation with a bird. her name was Chelsea and, because this was a dream, she looked like somebody made a plush of the Duolingo owl but blue and yellow. in context she was some kind of parrot I think. her owner, an old man, said that had some sort of condition that was causing some cognitive decline but she was still quite smart, it just took her a minute to figure out what to say. she knew a lot about art and poetry.

she told me about some strange performance art piece. I don't remember the exact details, but it was something about a quote from a long-dead artist or author who said something about the things they wanted to make but hadn't yet burning them from the inside. somebody had taken this quote and somehow tied it with AI, and the performance was them burning...I forget whether it was a bunch of AI generated art, or whatever physical form houses an AI program itself.

I guess it was some kind of representation of an artist's unfinished work always being that: unfinished. the machine can't make it for them now that they're gone. it will always be inside them, always burning. pretty poignant message from a dream parrot.

had a dream that I don't remember the details of but part of it was that I was being hunted for some reason, but I had an advantage: a graphic T-shirt with a cool design that made me invisible and easily forgettable. people couldn't see me, and if they weren't directly interacting with me or seeing me interact with anything, they'd forget I was there.

at one point one of the people who were mainly hunting me managed to grab the shirt and almost got it off me but I twisted around so much they lost their grip and instantly lost track of me

i watched code lyoko based on recommendations from a few of my friends, and i really enjoyed my time with it. it was from that interesting era in cartoons where creators were experimenting with more mature plotlines in a serial story

for what it is and what it was trying to do, the original series was pretty good. using 3d animation was VERY experimental and expensive but for the time and the budget, its not nearly as janky as it couldve been.

as for the art style, i really do like it. people make gags about the size of the characters heads but you get used to it after a while and the stylization actually works in its favor. some REALLY nice backgrounds and the fights are well-choreographed.

i recommend it. the english dub is all free to watch on youtube and imo its a hidden gem.

Aelita, Destroyer of Lyoko

If you haven't guessed or didn't have a clue on who this was, she is Aelita. She is from the French cartoon known as "Code Lyoko". This show was inspired by various animes and this was France's take on making an Anime-inspired show. My approach to this drawing was her possessed by the antagonist known as X.A.N.A, a Computer A.I. virus plotting to destroy humanity, during the college years of the main characters.

This drawing was tough. I had never done background work before and putting myself in a situation where I had to understand light and shadows for certain poses like this. The rocks that she is lifting are not meant to be shaped like actual rocks. Because she's in a virtual world, the objects don't have a symmetrical shape due to X.A.N.A's manipulation of the world's code. The background was inspired by a game called "FusionFall" by Cartoon Network. I thought of the world that she was in as a toxic environment where there is a lot of debris and dust floating in the air due to the destruction she had caused.

My girls !! i’ve had them for years now and their designs have changed a bit between then but these are their most recent designs.

In the beginning of a story my friends and i are somewhat working on Rosette is the one who works the supercomputer. She’s quite smart but is quite blunt, not wanting to get misunderstood when she’s telling someone something. Somewhere in the middle of the story, around the time when Obsidian is first introduced as an actual character, she would go on Lyoko for the first time and from then on would join in on Lyoko when necessary.

Obsidian meanwhile is, at the beginning, a quiet and sorta creepy character. She tends to randomly pop up around the school in the background and stalk around, not appearing on camera feeds and even glitching out audio devices when nearby. It would later be revealed that she is Xana’s daughter, and would appear on Lyoko to fight the the Lyoko Warriors. However she would eventually warm up to the group and become a Lyoko Warrior, where she becomes a brighter and happier character.

Both of them have more lore but its all in the works and i’ve been rethinking their backstories for a while now. So this is really all i have for you, but if you decided to read this then thanks! have a great day :]

vargastober day 1 !! time to make pretty pieces !!!

HUGE RANT INCOMING !!!! LET'S GET TO IT

okay so it's currently almost 5AM and i set up an alarm in four hours but hey let's just write an entry right now :DDDD ( at this rate i will die soon

i remember that when i saw this prompt in the list , my brain immediately said " 20 / 21 " . YOU KNOW ME , I JUST LOVE THIS ONE SO MUCH . and once i had all of the prompts , i put all of them in one of those websites to randomize the order of something ??????? yeah . and " memory " was the first one to appear . ( smiles mischievously

okay . . . of course i had to get something to do on the very first day . i'm going out with my famiily today , and i won't be back until tomorrow . . . great timing isn't it

so idk like three hours ago i had to SIT DOWN and work on this . i was extra stressed because i chose to work on some edgar / jake first , for some reason .

then my sister got home and YOU KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS , IT'S CODE LYOKO TIME !!!!! it was like 10PM and i didn't want to get myself to work on it . i really didn't feel like drawing yesterday . but i still did , because usually that means i can just push myself a little bit and if i get something that i like at least a bit , i'll probably just work with it and enjoy it !

for this whole thing , i had an extremely specific reference saved SOMEWHERE on my phone . that thing when you see something neat , and you're like " hey i want to draw that " then , take a screenshot and forget about it forever . I HAD THIS ONE REALLY FRESH ON MY BRAIN THOUGH !! and even if there's plenty of things i could do for this one ( fuck , i even have a whole pinterest board for them !! and for the rest of the characters , really ) i really REALLY wanted to get this one done taking that picture as a reference .

it was a picture of a little girl kneeling down to get some flowers . . . and the whole thing just screamed childhood for me . i could probably just do the whole thing without a reference but i wanted to see the background and overall the slight blurriness to it . that would be harder to recreate without a reference . but i just had this picture floating somewhere on my phone's photos . i didn't even remember the year i took the screenshot ! and i didn't want to check through 13k pics on my phone to find it . i used to clean my gallery a lot , but since i got a phone with a fair amount of storage ( unlike last one ) i stopped doing it so much because it isn't really necessary anymore lolz . so yeah . . . i didn't want to look for it . last time i checked my phone's photos from last year i got depressed because i fully believe i had everything and lost it all . but hey that's not the point-

at the end , i did find the picture ! didn't take too long , too . . .

and here it is ! a tiktok screenshot of an age regression post . really fitting . i wanted it to have this kind of , hazy dreamy end to it . a memory . ( laughing

first i made this incredibly poor sketch to see how bad it'd look because HONESTLY i didn't think i'd get it right first try . AND I HAD NO TIME TO TRY AGAIN

i've been working with backgrounds for a while , and one thing is certain . i SUCK at them i've already had two pretty pieces ruined by shitty / unfinished backgrounds . last one i made ( the fireflies one ) was at least a bit better . and well , IT WAS FINISHED .

the main problem i had with backgrounds is that , my art is pretty line heavy . and the way most people do backgrounds is just like , scribbling things around with big brushes and stuff . first time i tried . idk it just looked odd ! the characters were so sharp looking and the background looked blurry , almost . i don't even have a picture to show because the file of the piece i'm talking about got CORRUPTED at some point , so . . .

there's this guy on instagram that makes tutorials and just MAKES IT LOOK SO EASY IN WAYS I COULDN'T UNDERSTAND . i did notice something , though . . . this person started with the background first , then drew the character . made sense . i mean yes , that would make the character actually fit in the piece . . . . . . it's funny because yeah common sense OF COURSE you start with the background but MY BRAIN REFUSED TO ACCEPT IT FOR SOME REASON i don't want to draw boring backgrounds I WANT TO MAKE PRETTY CHARACTERS WITH PRETTY HAIR AND PRETTY CLOTHES

( by the way , this is the guy and this is the tutorial i followed ! check his art everything's so cool

i COULDN'T ALLOW MYSELF TO FAIL THIS TIME so i tried it this way . didn't take a lot of screenshots of the progress because i was like JUST FOCUSING ON GETTING THE PIECE DONE but hey i had some screenshots i sent to brusk

started with the sky . . . then added clouds , some mountains . . . brusk told me she liked it ! that it had undertale vibes lolz

then adding bushes . . . some trees . . . the place scri would be standing on . . . i watched the tutorial , got similar colors but still took the reference pic as well , a reference lolz

if there's something i hate , is detailing grass . really really hate it I CAN NEVER MAKE IT LOOK RIGHT . seeing just a nice , open field like this one made me think of another drawing idea i have for them

i have at least three pieces like this on my pinterest ideas board . i was like " what if i do something like this instead " but NNNOOO !!!! I HAD A REFERENCE TO FOLLOW ! and quickly got back to the original idea . hmm . . . i still want to draw a piece like that , though . . .

then , i just detailed the grass a bit more . . . added pretty yellow flowers .

i liked how it looked so far ! which was surprising . i usually never like my backgrounds .

then , TIME FOR THE FFFFFFUN PART !! SKETCHING THE CHARACTER !!!

this was the initial sketch . i keep saying " YYEAHH I DON'T DRAW LINE !! MY SKETCH IS MY LINE !! I'M COOL AND SUPERIOR " but nah this piece and most of them have at least the smallest sketches . i lied to you guys .

honestly . . . i didn't really liked how it looked . bleh .

still , chose a nice , pencil-like brush to work on the line . the background doesn't look really sharp , and i wanted to avoid the problem i talked about before ! characters looking solid and background looking blurry . i used this brush before for a little thing before and i thought it'd be harder to use . but everything okay .

this is what the line looked like at first ! love detailing lines and stuff but i didn't really give myself enough time to detail this one as much . half of the details would be lost , at the end . . .

flat colors ! and a pic of william looking like he's constipated on top lolz . that frame is so funny . i know he's suffering and getting his memory back BUT IDC . I KEEP WATCHING CL ANALYSIS VIDEOS . I CAN'T HELP IT , THEY'RE SO COOL TO WATCH

i had to make my colors a bit less saturated for them to fit the piece . you can't really notice at the end , since the filters i added made it look normal lolz

little break to talk about mmmusic !!! okay so , you know . i really like code lyoko . they have this fake band called " the subdigitals " and one of their tracks was used on the credits of the show . nice song . well , once i read in reddit that they had actual songs ! so , i searched in youtube and THEY DO HAVE MORE SONGS ! a fair amount of them , too . . . so i've been listening to them for days now . THEY'RE REALLY GOOD I CAN'T HELP IT

BACK TO DRAWING . after flat colors , shading was next ! and oh i've seen people shade with purple since i was a kid . but i was like " that doesn't make sense . I'M DIFFERENT AND I'LL DO IT ANOTHER WAY " so i did , but IT JUST DIDN'T LOOK RIGHT . so i had to . ( sigh ) . shade with purple . ( and it looks great !

TO BE FAIR i do add a bit of a darker blue when shading but this time i just used it as it is .

oh also i did have to go back and correct the colors a bit for it to fit better . this time , i didn't color his hair like i usually do ! i wanted something less scribbly , more solid . . . i think it looks pretty . his hair is shining !

SCRI DIDN'T HAVE FEET AT FIRST i didn't draw them because i mean you can't really see them on the reference picture . but here it just looks like he's SINKING INTO THE FFLOOR OR SOMETHINg so i went back and added them . . .

coloring the line was really important on this one ! at the end , scri did look sharper than the background AGAIN so i tried and colored the line in a way that it wasn't that noticeable . i like it . should do it more often .

even after colring the line he still didn't so i had to save the background and a png of scri's character , set them on a different canvas and then blur scriabin just a little . I REFUSE TO MERGE MY LAYERS . YOU CAN'T MAKE ME

once the colors were set and done , i went to add a bunch of filters ! only to notice that !! i forgot the freckles !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! way to go , sunny !

( most of the pics i added here do have freckles on them because i took them after finishing the piece but . yeah

so i had to GO BACK get everything set and add the filters again . AND , AFTER 5 HOURS OF WORK , WE HAVE THIS PIECE !!!! i forgot the freckles because i don't add them as part of the line anymore . they were harder to color like this . . . so i just paint them on his face when i'm rendering . ah well .

i was strugggggling to find a way to crop it , and now half of the background it's gone . gggreat . i don't think i achieved that hazy feeling , if i'm honest . . . but i still like it a lot . so i'm pretty happy with the result .

( also , i should sign these . it's been a while since i signed any of these ! i just don't know where to add the watermark !

oh , and also . this is how my canvases usually look . i make huuuge files just so i can have lots of spacte to add a bunch of references in the canvas and then crop everything out when i'm done using them .

i don't really know if there's anything else to add . just that i'm glad i'm doing this , i'm glad i got this one done on time AND I'M EXCITED TO WORK ON THE REST OF THESE

Final words: Code Lyoko Evolution is not as bad as the fandom claims. Rather, it's a festival of frustration over the series' wasted potential.

Code July Day 5: Art/Fic swap

This is pretty late. There aren't a lot of Code Lyoko fanfics that involve character redesigns whatsoever. Same with fanart. I think Yumi doesn't really have lots of fanmade Lyoko redesigns (aside from mine tho).

So I ended up drawing her Garage Kids version instead (but flipped the kimono collar bc cultural accuracy, my weeb ass knows this). Garage Kids is the initial concept of Code Lyoko, but isn't really part of the canon timeline. Kinda like a prototype, I guess?

Btw that Yumi is supposed to be sitting on the ground. She's just vibing. My light blue markers almost ran out of ink when creating the simplistic background. idk why I just love making lineless rocks lmao

About the fanfic, Epsilon made a fanfiction of "What if Garage Kids continues as a series" thing and I'm here for it. Friendly reminder that this fanfic has a pretty dark story.

You know, since I am finally getting back to posting regularly now that I am on spring break, I would like to share some of my deepest wishes, my first deepest wish is for Glitch Productions to announce a Meta Runner season 4, my second deepest wish is for Celeste Notley-Smith to reprise her role as Tari and not have Lottie Bourne voice Tari because we all know that would piss off the fan base even more ever since Tarigate and because Celeste Notley-Smith deserves so much respect, my third deepest wish is to voice a Meta Runner character and it could be a generic background character or it could be a character who is connected to a main character's backstory like I don't know, voicing Masa Shimamoto's little sister, but it's not like that's gonna happen since I don't think Glitch Productions would pick a 15 year girl who barely has the will to live to voice a character who is optimistic and actually has the will to live but that's just my opinion since I would gladly voice any character that Glitch Productions will assign me regardless of how much screen time they have since I have nothing to lose and would gladly voice a character who has the characterization of a stick of butter, but if Glitch Productions happens to contact me because they saw this post and they want me to voice Masa's little sister, Yuko, or whatever the hell they decide to call her, in Meta Runner season 4, I would gladly accept so I can hopefully make someone happy and hopefully restore my will to live in the process, and finally, my fourth deepest wish is for people to spread this around Tumblr and other social media websites so Glitch Productions can see and hopefully grant my wishes but it's not like they will ever see this since I barely get likes on my posts and only one person has ever reposted one of my posts and it was a belated happy birthday post for a 100 Kanojo character which I am not proud of, since Momiji is one of my least favorite characters and that's not going into the fact that I have only 3 followers and even though my posts can be seen, people just don't seem to care and I want people to care about what I post and not just like my Code Lyoko posts since I have grown out of my Code Lyoko face but do people care? NOPE!, they do NOT care or maybe my posts on stuff other then Code Lyoko are just bad in general and that's the reason people don't like and repost my posts because they KNOW that my posts are bad but I can at least hope that people actually like my content but I only think that in my dreams and in reality, people don't actually like my posts and I'm just deluding myself into thinking otherwise but if anyone out there happens to find this and decides to spread it around, that would absolutely make my day.
