Mariyam has 15 family members who have been displaced in Rafah for 7+ months and need money to pay for exit from Gaza. These are her aunts, uncles, cousins, and loved ones, one of them has a physical and mental disability, some of them are as young as 3 months or as old as 63.

I want you to know that this is not a scam and real genuine people who need help to survive. I went to high school with Mariyam and she’s an amazing person who does not deserve to have to fear for the safety of her family every day. Neither should they or anyone else fear for their own lives.

It’s Friday, and my emotions are overwhelming.

This Sunday, we will witness the first three hostages returning home.

I can’t even put into words the storm of feelings I’m experiencing.

There’s excitement and hope — hope that this is the beginning, that this marks the return of not just a few but, as promised, 30 morein the next few weeks.

But alongside the hope, there’s a gripping fear.

In what condition will they come back? Will they be alive? Broken in ways we cannot imagine?

These questions sit heavy on my heart.

It’s what plays on the screen of my mind over and over again, but at the same time, I cling to the best-case scenario.

I hold tightly to the hope that they will come back, and we will get to see them again, and that this is only the start of something much bigger — a Phase II, where all the rest will return to us.

It feels surreal to say it, but this is the best-case scenario, and we’re living it.

A scenario where life and hope take center stage, even in the shadow of all that people endured.

And so, I hold on — desperately, fiercely — to the belief that more light is coming.

This Shabbat, I pray for their return. I pray for strength, for healing, for all the families waiting, and for the day when no one is left behind.

Let this be the beginning.

Let this be a promise fulfilled.

Let this be hope turned into reality.

Shabbat Shalom. Hold on. Survive.

Hello hello! Is anyone up to talk to me about their culture? I want to learn more about different cultures around the world so i can somewhat base the cultures in Gourmet Guardians of them! ;]

Also because i have seen other people (ahem Genshin Impact ahem) try to base cultures and fail intensely or even be called out as racist, so. I’m open if anyone wants to talk about their culture ;D I’d love to hear you all out, i really like to investigate by myself but many of the things that are available to read or learn about are either too little or irredeemable racist (Like that one ‘’Egyptian dance’’ animation meme that everyone’s calling out)

I’d like to base many characters about cultures around the world, so if you’re up to, i’m all ears!!!

Poetry for ALL - an appeal

When I said "yes" to helping Rose Drew host what turned out to be the first ever Poetry for ALL in 2018, I had no solid idea what I was getting myself into, but through all the amazing events, brilliant performers, amazing interpreters, and fascinating venues, several observations have stayed firm:

These events are both loved and necessary – there's something immensely powerful, on a personal as well as societal level, about putting disabled people in spaces where they can perform without having to strive to overcome the usual tedious access issues, or see other disabled people telling their truths, amplified and spotlit and attended to (or both, of course). All our performers have physical, mental, or sensory disabilities, or are neurodivergent (and most are a combination of the above), and there's something undeniable about being among the majority for once.

It is increasingly difficult to fund these events, despite all of the above, the Arts Council yet again turning us down, this time on the grounds that we hadn't "demonstrated the demand" for such an event. I'm pretty angry about this, but mostly in the "okay, fine, we'll just have to show them, then" way.

Rose is a terrifying force for nature and I'm glad we're on the same team.

So we're doing the event again in York, despite both of us being different types of really ill, and we're livestreaming and recording it, and we have an amazing lineup of artists that you should really grab the opportunity to witness, especially at the prices we're offering (hell, the livestream is pay-what-you-can!), and we're crowdfunding again, because that worked last time, but we're really behind, and could do with some help.

The events are so accessible it's unreal - fully wheelchair accessible venue, poem text projected onto the screens, BSL interpreters for all spoken word, Covid-safer performance space, I'll do audio descriptions for anyone who needs them, low ticket prices and discounts for disabled attendees (plus free access for personal assistants), and if I can find my Braille label-maker, we'll have a Brailled merch table to boot!

So if you fancy helping out an event that showcases some of today's most exciting disabled UK poets (Rick Dove and FR Kesby headlining?! This is Ahed. ( @ahedalshaer ), whose fundraiser is verified by the butterfly effect project (#407 on the list). She's a 22 year old dental student from Gaza. She was on her 4th year of school when the war started.

Her family is in danger. Her mother is suffering from a chest infection and her father has diabetes. Getting medical supplies is difficult and she worries she will lose them. There’s no food, water, or cleaning supplies either. And bombs are constantly dropping. There is no safety.
