and listen i've been DYINGGG for crumbs of syu and tsumugi's dynamic because compared to the other three leader duos we don't have a good idea of what they are??? they hardly have as much interactions together is what i mean!!! they seem to be in this safe distance which is fine but yknow i hoped we could see them interact more. and then syu's ssr drops and his backstage throws syu and tsumugi straight onto stage together in ONNAGATA ROLES my jaw dropped when i saw the sprites it was legit a motherquake. currently praying for my fuyu leader mutuals rn

and don't get me started on hiro's backstage oh my god. firstly hiro's son TAKUMA HYUGA!!!! he's such a baby he's so cute he loves tenma so much!!! he's so lucky to have an entire group of big brothers one of which is The Sumeragi Tenma he's been a fan of for so long!!! him asking for a tenma standee in front of hiro was funny as hell too KSHJFKSFGSDKFG and hiro's so cute his disguise is the exact same as tenma with those glasses the writing team really loves to add parallels each chance they get??? keep it coming though. also did you know hiro got good at crane games just so he can get stuff for his son he fathered so hard.

and the way when hiro was telling the other 1st gen that he understands why takuma loves tenma so much and once again starts spilling compliments about tenma and kasumi was like Lol you stan him and hiro's like SHHH I DO NOT!!! KJHGKSJFDGSFDG i'm sorry i love them so much i love how 1st gen interacts with newborn mankai it's so feel good. i waited so long for more content of them and the fact that it's here and there's more coming makes me so happy. please read the backstages they're just so sweet

Hey y'all, Just thought I would try something this week and give a couple of thoughts on today's episode. (I might do it again in future, I might not, let's see.) Personal Thoughts: I have to admit I was nervous about this one. I have taken lead researching the historical elements of Protocol and part of me is always terrified that someone will drop me a line and be like "FYI this makes no sense" and then I realise they are right. That said, I have checked and double checked though so it's probably fine right? Also frankly I didn't really have to make that much stuff up. History in this period is absolutely bananas. Fun fact for this episode: The Gilded Gallows. Look it up. Backstage insight: I don't deliberately keep including Newton in my work. The guy just has a lot of links to him on Wikipedia y'know? Also I super enjoy writing old-timey. i think the other thing that makes this ep not quite "work" is it isn't... i don't know, it must be aware of this, but it feels like it isn't aware of The Metaphor the alien plot is doing / saying about our main characters, and it doesn't take a second to truly show that to them. It is showing the chuldur stealing people's identities and doing some good ol' ~disaster tourism~, it tells us what they are doing is wrong, we're expected to be shocked and appalled by what they've done to ruby. but then there's not really a beat about how the doctor and co do the same thing every day (going to other times and taking the piss out of other ppl's histories / lives, then going off). and in the end even the contemporary human ruby "befriends" turns out to be a chuldur as well. so there's not a single regular human character developed in this.

then there's the whole proposal scene where the doctor and rogue "act" as well during that whole thing, which don't get me wrong was fun as hell, was a thrill to see them play w/ their prejudices, and as I said in my post the dialogue was very meaty for their particular characters.... but on the area of *theme* for this *episode*.... they're just doing the same thing as the chuldur. it feels like no one cares about all the people that are being murdered around them (nor the writers, who don't develop them), just their own fun.

and like the thing with doctor who episodes is, it's not enough to have a high body count, for it to be shocking.... you have to actually give those characters you kill a bit of depth/humanity/relatability, for the death to actually mean anything. ex: in end of the world, bc they show us the blue plumber and rose connecting for 1 little scene, we do actually care about her being murdered by the mini-war of the worlds robots, and care about what cassandra is doing. like the episode says "isn't the chuldur horrific? they are taking actual human beings as set dressing for their fun / entertainment!!" but then... the writing does the same thing by not giving death any kind of gravity / weight.

basically it feels like this B plot of the aliens wasn't properly aligned with the A plot of the rogue and doctor romancing. it works on its own (mostly, tho I still feel there's an element of depth missing in rogue)... but not with all the other aspects. which sucks bc the episode had all the ingredients to truly Bring It Home.

Had a walk this morning to get milk for coffee, since I did acquire that mini-fridge for my room to store milk behind a locked door so MY LOVABLE SIBLINGS can stop stealing it-

Morning walks are actually something I might consider doing more often, because it was very awakening and invigorating. I was listening to music while walking too, alone in my thoughts. And the weather was nice.

In a spur of the moment decision, I decided to make a document of lore for a certain mysterious character in Arc Two, and in the process discovered I only had a vague idea of how the scene would go. I knew there would be a fight of some sort, I just hadn't worked out the detail-ies yet.

I discovered, when unsure of myself, I write pure nonsensically goofy gibberish.

So enjoy a behind-the-scenes, not technically a spoiler because I cropped out the lore, glimpse at my writing and thought process when adding filler text.

Thinking about Steph again and just. What if War Games never happened but, her time as Robin did.

Like, I generally understand the urge to cut both of them - the one is meant to lead to the other, and if it doesn't it also feels somewhat unfair to Bruce, and the whole editorial reason her Robin run happened was to lead into War Games - but also if it doesn't, then where does that leave Steph?

Because being Robin and then loosing that feels like a line in the sand. No matter what Bruce's motives where for that, Steph can't really continue to act as though she can earn a mentorship from him, partially because she's going to hold a grudge and partially because he makes himself deadly clear. Maybe she goes back to ask from Barbara and the BOP as a whole but nothing material has changed for them either. She has to either figure out vigilanteism without help, or pack it up and go home, and let's be real, she's not going to do that latter. So what does her as a prickly jealous underequipped and insecure teenager trying to be Spoiler all on her own look like?
