Band weaving with a small simple heddle is something I planned to return to at some point after almost quarter of a century. Sounds huge, huh? I used to weave small crazy coloured bands as a pre-teen. Now this rainbow one absolutely needed to be started amongst all the other projets that are in progress. Suddenly more waiting was just unacceptable 😂

I hope to make myself a usable strap for a bag or for my camera this way. Love the simplicity.

Man it's it gorgeous outside!! Just spent the last two hours at Expo Park spinning and weaving while my husband played disc golf. No pics of spinning because it's hard to photograph one's self while operating a drop spindle.🤳 And then it just got too windy🌬️ Thank goodness I brought the backstrap loom - just in case. This is a basic Peruvian pebble weave. Tension is a little wonky at the beginning because I tried to set it up on my rigid heddle. Backstrap is much better! Hump day thoughts... There is a lot besides craft that one can learn from watching a master artisan at work: slow down, focus on one thing, do it well. Working and living are crafts that must be learned and honed too. Recently, my mum gently suggested that idly picking up my phone throughout the day to check on nothing in particular might be breaking up my focus on the tasks actually in front of me, and making me both less effective and more stressed — thus even less effective, and even more stressed. Of course she was totally right, and I promptly turned off all notifications and started making a concerted effort not to pick up my phone unless I needed to use it for something specific, that actually needed doing right then. And with each task, I'm trying to just be in the moment, enjoy accomplishing whatever small and often mundane thing it is, and not worry about the next task, or create some imagined (usually phone-based) pressure as a displacement activity. And you know what? I'm way more effective and even better, way less stressed. So, thanks Mum. And thanks to the artisans who still make things the traditional way, who know there's no substitute for focused, methodical work. You can't half put your heart into something and expect it to be of true value to someone else. I'm going to try to remember that. . . . . . . .
